I think my brain has decided to dump mind control/hypnosis into the same bucket as fursonas and TF.

Specifically the one where it's like "this would be extremely interesting if you could do it, but you can't, so why bother with something that's only fantasy?"

Which is strange that it happens here. Like, there are definitely interests/kinks that are completely fantasy but I'm still into them, still enjoy reading about and seeing art of them. (I'm not gonna specify which ones because this is not a TMI Tuesday post)

But for some things my brain decides that I'm provisionally into it but only if it can be done for real. Like... Imagine someone who is into bondage but has zero interest in bondage porn/erotica, only in doing it for real... And then imagine they're someone who can't do any bondage for partner/disability reasons. That's where my brain is at.

I'm not sure if it's that I'm not interested enough in these things, or I'm too interested.

Like the former makes sense: if I was majorly into TF, I'd be into it even though it's impossible. The fantasy would be so erotic/interesting that I'd be all over it, even knowing I'm very unlikely to ever get slowly turned into a deergirl with antlers.

But the latter might be closer: I'm too into these things. My brain is like "omg this is the best idea ever! We need to do it now!!!" and then the disappointment at realizing it's impossible just sours me on the whole damn subject.

Like I can't get the motivation to design a fursona because it keeps reminding me that I can never be the cute cow. I don't want to have a fursona that's just a thing in pictures and stories, I want to have hooves and big horizontal ears and NOT BE A FUCKING HUMAN.

It's annoying because I think in all these cases it's something I could legitimately be interested in and get a lot of enjoyment out of! Like, furries are awesome! (and I am one, even without a fursona). They have lots of fun with their fursonas. I could commission art of my fursona using old computers! I could design keyboards for use with my hooves! It could be tons of fun.

And TF? Don't get me started. I am constantly saying I need to be less human. I theoretically love the idea of turning into something else. But nope. I can't enjoy it, maybe because I'm going "why isn't that me?"

And I've read some mind-control/hypnosis stuff recently and I'm having the exact same reaction. There some parts where I'm like "this has a lot of interesting ideas! Why can't I do this?" oh yeah because it doesn't exist. Damn it.

And that "damn it" emotion is when I close the story. So I can't really enjoy the parts of it I like, I'm too dissuaded by the disappointment.

I dunno if this is an autism thing. I've known some other people on the spectrum have similar issues with just deciding subjects are zero interest to them, after only a quick glance. I don't know if that's the same or a similar thing than I'm talking about.

First thing, there should be more ways of what to do - or not do - in context of disability. Not every disabled person needs or wants aids; some people might want an aid for one disability but not for the other, etc.

If you would like our input on the first solution, it would be great to know what exactly is encompassed in the idea of a "magical aid" - we have a whole tag dedicated to it. Some magic aids are better than others in terms of representation and usefulness.

As for the second, please don't do it.

What you're describing is the "cure trope", that we also have a tag dedicated to, as it shows up all the time, and we try to discourage it as much as possible.

"Magically healing disabilities" isn't good representation, and the implication that disabled people would kill animals to get "cured" is strange at best and offensive at worst. Just because being disabled sometimes sucks (as most things like, in general? nothing is perfect all the time) doesn't mean we would kill puppies to be abled, and it's a concerning conclusion to come to. I don't know a single disabled person who would even consider something like this.

My advice would be to just completely get rid of the second "solution"; it's not representative, and the reasoning behind the concept is fundamentally flawed, it features some very tired tropes. I recommend going through our blog and the tags linked to get a better idea on why we take issue with the trope shown here.

You could easily use the shelter concept in a much more interesting way and make the pets into service animals who learn how to help their new owner properly, rather than the whole "dead pet>being disabled" conclusion.

Previously translated pair names that had been posted to Twitter. However corrections had to be made (misinterpretations & an instance of mistranslation), so this is version 2.

Note: This is the only translated thing I will be posting, I am not off hiatus. I had been meaning to archive this before my hiatus, but I also had to fix some things, which is why there was a delay.

Please consult to this post only regarding pair name translations done by me (82mitsu), any other posts or reposts you might see of this chart is the older version. (Previous version has been deleted, but I'm unaware how far the information had spread.)

Below follows an extreme lengthy TL note breaking down some pair names, it's a lot of text, so be warned once you unfold the read more.

A lot of research went into these due to 18TRIPs tendency to mix up words, use Gen-Z slang that hasn’t been picked up by everyone yet (or limited to TikTok) and make up their own words (“Omotenashisto” -> “Hospitalister”). I used dictionaries, searched forum results, looked up how people use these words on social media, went TikTok digging, etc.

I tried my best to localize in a way that should make sense even without added context. I only explained the ones that I thought might needed some more back-up in a cultural sense or because it was a specific JPN thing. Thus, not everything has been explained. However, I hope things are clearer compared to the first version that was posted. For Renga & Yukikaze: For ぽゆぽゆ (poyupoyu) there is no definition or anything for this word, but from context clues and digging through how people used it, I deduced that it means something soft and squishy like a plushie or cheeks, so to say. For Renga & Liguang: ���りそめの宿縁 (karisome no shukuen) is a Japanese saying about a fated connection of bond that only lasts for a brief moment, but leaves a deep impact on your life. For Renga & Raito: Party is mispelled in the katakana as “paachii” and not the usual “paatii”. Renga has a tendecy to say English words wrong. While “friends” is spelled the correct way, both words have been “mispelled” to drive the point home. For Renga & Kinari: なぁぜなぁぜ (naaze, naaze) is JPN Gen-Z slang from Tiktok. It’s a statement made as an act for complaining, with a bit of sarcasm and irony thrown in at times. Like, “I said I wanna diet but I ate a big meal anyway! なぁぜなぁぜ” or “I’m an idol but I get more anxious doing improv than performances! なぁぜなぁぜ”. Best way I can describe the usage in this context is Renga is throwing a bit of a self-aware tantrum as to why Kinari would correct him. (As mentioned earlier, he isn’t good at English). I guessed a close equivalent would be “nuh-uh”, since that is a dismissal of someone else’s opinion without actual good reason, even if the other person has a point. For Renga & Netaro: まんまん (manman) means “a lot” but I also believe it’s a reference to meatbuns (nikuman). For Kafka & Yodaka: Hanbei is Takenaka Shigeharu, a Japanese samurai from the Sengoku era. He was known for being Toyotomi Hideyoshi’s strategist. For Liguang & Yodaka: 闘牌伝 (touhaiden) is related to Mahjong stuff. 闘牌伝 seems to be an old timey Mahjong video game with RPG elements. Rekka is a fighting game term, and I will quote the website The Fighting Game Glossary by Infil on this: “A type of special move that has multiple stages, as long as you input more commands to continue the sequence. Not all multi-part specials can be called rekkas though; a rekka tends to have exactly three distinct parts and will move your character forward along the ground with each new input.”  For Akuta & Nanaki: They went to the same kindergarten and were grouped together in the “Oden Class”. Japanese kindergartens, from my understanding from researching, tend to have a name for their class, rather than a number. To give an idea what such names could be, in 2019 the website hyenasclubs hosted a poll of most commonly used names for classes, and the top 3 were “baby chick” (hiyoko), “peach” (momo) and “dandelion” (tanpopo). For Akuta & Muneuji: My take on はっけよい輝矢部屋 (hakkeyoi kaguya heya) is a bit of an elaborate bit joking with Princess Kaguya of the Moon (from Tale of the Bamboo Cutter) because I was wondering why they suddenly opted for Muneuji’s last name instead of first. (I might’ve also just overestimated Kaguya Heya being some joke on Kaguya Hime). Hakkeyoi is what a referee shouts at the start of a sumo wrestling match. For Akuta & Ushio: I think ポジティブに腕押し (positive ni ude oshi) is a take on 暖簾に腕押し (noren ni ude oshi) that means something has no effect or is pointless. Lit. it means “pushing a curtain with one's arm”.    For Akuta & Tao: Akuta Nine is a joke on the baseball movie Gyakkyo Nine which is an adaptation of the manga of the same series, I believe. The movie is referred to as GK9, hence I made it AKT9.  For Akuta & Ryui: The original is OYAxKOBU which comes from 親分子分 (oyabunkobun) meaning “boss and his underlings”. Akuta also calls Ryui by “Oyabun”.

For Kiroku & Nanaki: Weebs who watch highschool anime should be familiar with this, but emergency staircase refers to the hallway stairs in a JPN highschool that are sometimes used as chilling out spots by students. For Kiroku & Chihiro: TuRyStA is the clothing brand they wear. 18TRIP has a various selection of clothing brands, which each character having a preference for one or another. For Kiroku & Yodaka: Zhao Yun, as quoted by Wikipedia, “was a military general who lived during the late Eastern Han dynasty and early Three Kingdoms period of China.” For Ushio & Raito: Some heavy freedom was taken with バスボムしゅわリスト (basubamu shuwaristo). After considering how to approach it in the most sensical way, I decided to translate it as “bubblist” due the other options being “hand sign list” or “bubble list”. I thought リスト might function as in -ist, like dentist, artist, guitarist. しゅわ comes from しゅわしゅわ which means bubbly. Although bubblist isn’t not that common, it is sometimes referred to entertainers that do bubble performances (in English). And I think it made more sense than “hand sign list” or “bubble list” to say the least. This was also taking in consideration how 18TRIP, as explained in the intro, gets very creative with its language usage. For Raito & Nagi: Mandarin ducks symbolize “soulmates” of some kind in China. In other words, Mandarin Duck Touring is more along the lines of “Motorcycle touring soulmates”. However, I find the mandarin duck reference and interesting pull compared to just “soulmates”, so it was kept as is. For Kinari & Ryui: “Super Darling Gap Inspection” is more along the original lines. “Gap” in Japanese is usually used in the context of when someone acts one way, but unexpectedly, can act a different way. Ex. A very shy person shows they can be super vulgar, that can be considered a “gap” of some kind. In English, people are more familiar with “gap moe”, thus gap moe was used. For Tao & Nagi: Might be a reference to Yokohama’s Zo-no-hana (Elephant Nose) Park. For Toi & Yodaka: The original is more along the lines of, in the most literal sense, “going around raisins circle (of friends).” Toi likes raisins, but Yodaka doesn’t, so Yodaka passes them onto Toi. I’ve turned into on a play on “sharing is caring” since that’s a common concept in English.

As someone who's really into zoology and evolution i get a bit confused by the argument that people who are amab can't have a biological predisposition for sex based discrimination cause from my pov desired control of female reproduction(something that would have an evolutionary basis) seems like the original foundation for sexism.

I know chimps(though our closest relatives that exhibit obvious sexism) are far from being a 1:1(even there a lot of it is taught) and that even if we take rep control as the basis, sexism has evolved so much that talking about only that is reductive at best and want to make it clear I'm not saying everyone considered male at birth has sexism hardwired into their dna or something. I'm 100% of the belief that ppl considered male at birth(esp if they turn out to be trans women) just like everyone else have the ability to unlearn sexism and that modern sexism is entirely taught. aw this is so polite thank you :) evopsych (the notion that human behaviors like sexism are an evolved trait) is one thing i’ve been interested in mainly from a perspective of debunking it. i read yuval noah harari’s book sapiens a while ago, and it explores some common theories for why patriarchy appears in every society and debunks pretty much every running theory really well. there’s also münecat’s incredibly well researched video essay debunking it as a topic through meta-analysis of dozens of studies.

i think it’s definitely tempting to attempt to explain sexism as a hardwired evolutionary trait, but there’s not a lot of evidence to back that up. hunter-gatherer societies were/are largely egalitarian. the rise of patriarchy coincides with the invention of property (which comes with sedentary living & agriculture) in every case, which to me indicates it’s an entirely society-based phenomenon rather than a biological feature of humans. i don’t have the answers on Why that is, i just know that current research doesn’t seem to support the idea that patriarchy has a biological reason for existing

I originally wasn't even supposed to come to the Devildom. That responsibility got bestowed on one of the remaining seraphim, but they flat out told Michael that they didn't want to spend any time with demons and that this invitation of Lord Diavolo's was a ploy for him to seize control over the Celestial Realm. It wasn't until all the other seraphim rejected the idea of going that I was offered the job, and even then Michael wasn't too keen on sending me down here. For one, I'd have to take Luke with me so that he wasn't left unattended. The main thing, however, is that he's afraid that seeing the brothers will prompt me to misbehave, and I'm already on thin ice as it is due to my actions during the war. Of course, I assured him that everything would be fine and that I'd conduct myself properly during my stay in the Devildom.

I'm beginning to regret making that promise. But not because of the brothers.

No, it's that damn attendant of theirs, Zephyr.

It's possible that they're using both their looks and charm to lead me astray, but if that were the case, I'd feel like their attempts would be more deliberate and pointed. As far as I can tell, they're simply doing their job ensuring that our stay in the Devildom is as comfortable as possible. I don't think they even realize what they're doing to me, which makes the idea of them manipulating me that much more unlikely.

So why am I feeling this way towards them?

I head down to the kitchen to grab something to drink for Luke, hoping that the task would distract me.

But no. As soon as I enter, I notice Zephyr standing at the counter, chopping vegetables. Trying my best to ignore their presence, I head over to the refrigerator and begin rummaging through it.

"Can I help you?" they ask a couple minutes later, causing me to jump and nearly drop the bottle I have in my hand.

"Let me see what you have." I close the refrigerator door and turn around so that I'm facing Zephyr. "That's a bottle of wine. Probably not the best thing to give to a child. If you'll give me a moment to finish what I'm doing, I'll whip you both something safe to drink."

"Thank you." I stick the bottle back in the fridge. "You're proof that there are some very kind demons out there."

Thankfully, Luke is in our room, or he'd be chewing me out for saying that, and rightfully so. The whole thing might just be an act, part of a scheme to trick me. They might even be putting a curse on me at this very moment.

I'm not sure how I missed the giant container of angel pudding before, but I grab it and set it on the counter. Zephyr grabs me a spoon, and I scoop a little of the pudding out and stick the dessert in my mouth.

It's...wow. The only words that come to mind that are close to describing how good this pudding is are in Old Angelic, and there's no way Zephyr's going to understand any of them.

However, I must have a pleasant enough look on my face for them to be satisfied.

"I'm glad you like it," they tell me as they put the pudding away. "I've been taking lessons with Barbatos." That explains some of it. He's regarded as one of the best bakers in not just the Devildom, but in all of the three realms.

But in order for him to be a successful teacher, there has to be some natural talent in his student, which Zephyr clearly has.

The soft smile they give me makes me feel like my stomach's doing flips, making me remember why I was nervous to be around them in the first place.

This is going to be a long visit.

Do you think a large part of Charlie’s arc next season will be learning to use her power more. The first season was about her getting pushed to start using it by the end of season 1 and I feel with the vees being an antagonist next season she might be pushed further. I kinda see it like mark from invincible season 2 finale.

I think if there was a greenlight of multiple seasons it would definitely be an arc 100%

I'm not entirely sure if it make it in season 2. As we already have an idea of a line up on arcs already and if the limited to 8 episodes it may not be able to be squeeze in. It may be added in as a companion to a larger arc. For example, her learning and controlling her powers could have been a larger arc, but has to be lessen down to accompany the arc of defeating the Vees and their larger and main arc.

I did envision for a larger and longer arc, Charlie undergoing training and it be under Alastor tutelage. It would further the mentor/protege relationship. The two developing a close bond and trust which everyone else do not trust. It also would increase the hidden danger Alastor brings if he is a double agent by gaining Charlies trust and bonding for him to manipulate her. It would create angst within Alastor if he is playing double agent because he rapidly growing fond and caring for the princess that he was meant to betray by orders of his master.

I also imagine we get a tiny glimpse into Charlie past and why she doesn't use her powers and rely on others to do so. Her powers seem to burst when she upset. So I think in her angst, emo teen phase she kept losing control and end up accidentally hurting someone. So she grew very wary and hesitant on using her abilities. It may be why she so adamant of defuse fighting and solving issues by talkings etc.

With Alastor assuming been weaken in his own power and still recovering from his fight with Adam, I can see the need for Charlie to step up in that regard. Alastor would be the best teacher as he has transformative powers as well his sheer magical strength. As different as his powers would be from Charlies, it would be the closest match to the princess out of Hell...

...except for Lucifer. He sort of throws a wrench in my thought process if he going to be residing in the hotel and be more active in Charlie's life. Lucifer being around makes Alastor use redundant. Alastor coaching Charlie giving him a reason to stay beside Charlies protest against Alastor leaving. So, both will try to teach Charlie, which would be amusing as Alastor and Lucifer rivery, jealousy, and bickering would just continue.

I think Charlie need to train her powers would be prompted by Alastor first, as it seems one of Alastor main motivations is to have the princess come to power and be under his guidance. But to Alastor dismay, it be Lucifer to train her. At first anyways. But his method is slow. Not only is Lucifer is nearly as time itself and is time blind but he very protective. He be baby stepping everything which they don't have time with the looming doom approaching. Lucier would be training wheels, swim wings and floaties to teach Charlie to swim metaphor. Charlie making progress...but slowly.

Out of frustration of the slow progress from Lucifer protectiveness and lack of urgency, Charlie approaches Alastor for help (I guess another deal would be made as Alastor unlikely to help for free and needs advantages in his weaken state, despite this is the opportunity he been striving for.). Alastor method is the sink or swim metaphor. He the teacher that would throw a kid into a pool or push a bird out of a nest and wait for the child instincts to kick in as a lesson. Which is what Charlie needed. (Lucifer and Vaggie being pissed to find out Alastor literally push the princess of a cliff for her instincts to manifest. Yay for Charlie possibly having wings like her father or Vaggie?? But Charlie would defend Alastor methods to them while Lucifer and Vaggie continue to give Alastor the stink eye while Alastor is just amused) Then he will guide Charlie to fine tune and hone in the intricacy of the abilities. At this point, we glimpse more of Alastor personal ideology and philosophical beliefs like we have in Hello Rosie! when Alastor talked about the power of a smile.

Since Alastor most likely playing both sides. He is simultaneously setting up Charlie to succeed but leaving an opening to fail.

How nice to have a scene of an ecstatic Charlie that her hard work paid off and Alastor just looking down at her with a genuine fond smile and proud look as he pats her head in a job well done.

then maybe have it be ruin when Charlie hugs him with a "I couldn't done it without you" and Alastor looks guilty that he setting her up for disaster but CHarlie didn't see the expression as she buried her face in her chest as she hugged.

A later point, Alastor was force to betray Charlie by his master call. Leading the trope of trumpant student over teacher battle. Along with Charlies forgiveness theme of the story.

But I suppose if Charlies arc is in season two, it just be a much more shorten speedrun version minus Alastor betrayal. That betrayal be saved for a later season with the looming doom of a bigger baddie. (Roo)

Either way, I hope we get to see something with Charlie embracing her powers more or the reason she doesn't...because seriously, its weird that she set up to be the most powerful but relies on Alastor power to keep the hotel-her dream running? You think, if its her dream, she put more effort into it if she has the power to do so instead let it run down to the ground like the pilot. So WHY is she holding back?

Side note: Vaggie helps train Charlie how to fight with a trident more efficiently and have sparring matches.

Well, those are my two cents, hopefully its enough vaule to purchase something

The gang from that comic is actually just Heartslabyul students, but you are right: the Stitch event team absolutely should do something like this to Riddle. He is surrounded by the worst boys for a reason!

Why not both? I think Rook would switch things around every now and then…

He is possessive enough to want to keep Vil all for himself, but at the same time, what is Vil’s beauty if it’s locked up like he is a pretty bird? No, the bird has to be free for its beauty to shine, or at least have some hope for freedom that wouldn’t let the fire in Vil’s eyes go out. Having him locked up in a nice tower would be great, and Rook would play around with this idea, but at the same time he would feel like chasing Vil and hunting him down is the best way to experience the beauty of Vil’s body and spirit.

He has a lot of interesting ideas in his sick little head lol

You know this is an old ask because this is the first time the Snow Anon mentions their nickname… I am so sorry, Snow Anon! This is the previous ask, it’s been a while… It’s time to talk about the Merman sex and Jade Leech specifically again!

But I’ll actually start with the second half of your ask. I thought I’d write the list of characters like I always do, but as I’m thinking about it I’m realising that there aren’t really a lot of people in the cast that feel like they would roleplay… I might talk about this topic again in the future, but for now!

The ones who definitely enjoy roleplay when getting down and nasty are Vil, Rook and Ortho, but especially Ortho. Vil and Rook used to be more actively into this during their first year, there was a period when they do it almost every single time. Sometimes it would be something very dramatic and well thought-out, sometimes it would be something on a smaller scale, like a horny dialogue that doesn’t really have anything to do with reality. Rook is so incredibly happy that he got to make love to Vil in so many “universes” and so many scenarios~

I also like to think that there were times when Vil would get so invested in the improv part that he would actually forget about sex (why would his character want to suck this man’s dick now? doesn’t make sense, they have to have some kind of development or the impact isn’t there)…

But anyways, Ortho is also a little freak! He is so incredibly excited about being able to play all kinds of scenarios he has seen in movies, anime and hentai, and nothing will stop him. He loves starting a roleplay randomly, just to see if his partner would play along. Vil plays along sometimes, but also Idia is better at it than one would think!

In general, Idia considers any kind of sexual roleplay to be cringe, but it’s not impossible to get him somewhat invested in it. Ortho has done it before, and he will force Idia to do it again. Niisan is good at it, he shouldn’t be so shy!

Alright, other than these four… Ruggie would be willing for money but bad at it, Cater would enjoy it a lot actually, Lilia would be surprisingly great at it too. Neige? Maybe Neige would also be good at it… And Fellow too, hehe.

Bow let’s talk about the most important topic. To be completely honest, every time I draw the eel peen it looks different, but I feel like this Jade/Idia drawing had our ultimate eel peen… so I’ll share some thoughts about how I think it would work~

The length and the shape differ from merman to merman, but with these two particular eels, it’s 30-40 cm long. It will get longer though because they are not done growing yet. When it isn’t erect, it’s hidden inside their crotch area, which is normally completely flat.

It’s mostly white and has some greenish spots; it also isn’t fluorescent like the rest of their bodies, which means that one might spot an eel in the darkness of water, but the erect penis is always a surprise!

Eels are very slippery in general, but their penis produces even more slick. It’s incredibly slippery and almost impossible to hold in hand, which makes the owners of the peen the only ones who could control its placement and direction…

There are a lot of muscle inside the penis that makes it possible for it to not only slide, but also crawl inside the hole + move inside it in a lot of ways. Jade especially loves to move his penis in a 90 degree angle as much as possible once it’s inside the hole because it always makes his lover squirm and cry.

Both Jade and Floyd love to “hug” their lovers with their tail and spin when they have sex. Jade doesn’t spin as fast as Floyd does, but he also starts spinning very suddenly when his lover expects it the least…

There are “fins” on the penis that makes it look like a mini-eel, but those aren’t really fins. They add extra stimulation though + act like little hooks to make sure that the penis won’t slip out of the hole earlier than needed. When Jade does it, it’s a bit more painful than when Floyd does it.

The eel cum is very potent and thick. It might even become thicker once it’s all collected inside the body. Hey! That ask you answered about protective Yo Han reminded me of this gem from the script book. I don't know if you're interested in anything script-related, but in case you are, here it is. A slightly different way the scene in E3 was supposed to go, when Yo Han came to the factory and attacked the man who put a bomb in the painting. (Also, 'forced' means 'Yo Han', all translators use this word instead of his name for some reason).

Personally, I loved the "do you know who you hurt?", the madness "increasingly" filling Yo Han's eyes, and him glaring at K when he asked if this was about Ga On. I'm amazed that he got so protective of him so quickly, it's just E3. To think of what he'd do post-canon... thank God (and you, of course!) for your amazing story. I can't tell you how much I'm waiting for everything you're going to bring down on us.

I haven't gone out of my way to look for the script, no, but I do read the little snippets I might run into on Tumblr and such. So I'm not NOT interested? But also too lazy to go look for it xD

And, tbh, I don't want to accidentally mistake something that was written in the script — but then taken out — as something that actually happened in canon. I have a really good memory but I don't always remember WHERE I read/saw/heard a specific fact so there's a chance I might mistake it as a part of canon even if it's not x'D

But, all that said, I am FASCINATED by this new information, not going to lie. I think that the increasing madness was still captured pretty well in the final version, but the "Do you know who you hurt?" Oh yes, I'm into that. Because while it COULD still just mean that Yo Han is referring to himself, I like that it leaves room for speculation. Very nice.

Though, at the same time, I feel like I have to be a responsible person and point out that, most likely, the reason why Yo Han reacts so violently as early as episode 3 is probably because of Isaac, not Ga On. Like, at that point, I think Yo Han is still struggling a bit with separating the two. Not that he ever mistakes them for each other, obviously, but it's probably a little disorienting until he gets to know Ga On better and can see all the differences more clearly. So it wouldn't surprise me if some of that protectiveness is because Ga On looks like Isaac, at least this early. It brings back very bad memories, and all.

But post-canon? That protectiveness would be for Ga On only. And, as always, Yo Han would hold nothing back.

And we will be exploring that a bit in Who Holds the Devil, yes. Not quite on the level of "I'm going to bring the entire country to its knees," but hopefully still enough to satisfy everyone's need for protective Yo Han ;)

Some snippets into Donnie's relationship to his brothers in the Separated AU

So after having figured out that Donnie is in fact their Long Lost Brother, the Drax Trio obviously want him back, and while Donnie is initially excited to find out that he has a bunch of siblings, he's less excited to find out that they're a bit, uh, evil. And they keep insulting April!! How dare they!!! Not to mention, he already has a dad, he doesn't need a new one! So no, Donnie isn't planning on just leaving his current family behind for this new one, and his brothers react to this in various different ways.

As much as Mikey wants Donnie back, Dr. Feelings understands that this is quite the adjustment for Donnie and that he may need some time to come to terms with the fact that he actually belongs with them and not with the humans. Mikey doesn't wanna force his brother to reunite with them, so instead he tries to convince Donnie to come home willingly through various ways. I mentioned this in an earlier post, but AU Mikey is essentially trying to give Donnie a redemption arc like Canon Mikey did with Draxum

Raph, however, sees Donnie and immedietly goes full Protective Big Brother Mode. He thinks the best course of action is to "forcefully rescue" (kidnap) him and and then convince him to stay and be apart of their family. He's can't help catastrophizing about all the way his baby brother is definitely being mistreated by Lou Jitsu and April and all the other evil humans oh NO they have to SAVE HIM!! The only reason he doesn't is because no one else in the Draxum family thinks it's a good idea

And then Leo. I'll go more into detail about Leo's character in this AU at a later dat cuz hhhhhhh but basically, he's still dealing with pretty intense Middle Child Syndrome and the LAST thing he need is another middle child joining the family! Why are all his family members so obsessed with getting Donnie back anyway? He's already clearly chosen the human side so why waste their time on him! .....Now that's not entirely the whole truth, he's kinda ecstatic when he first meets Donnie, except Donnie doesn't seem to care about them any, which... ouch.

Another way to describe their dynamic would be similar to their canon dynamic, a lot of friendly bickering.... except they don't really know each other and are also enemies here so like.... UNfriendly bickering.... which is just bickering lol. They fight a lot, is what I'm getting at.

Anyway you know the family dinner scene with Draxum in season 2 of the show? Yeah, Mikey tries that tactic here too. Like I said, Mikey wants to be patient with Donnie, but he does eventually get a bit tired of Donnie acting so hostile all the time so he starts organizing hangouts for the four of them (attendence is mandatory!)

And poor Donnie, this whole situation is a bit of an emotional rollercoaster for him, as you might imagine. Reuniting with your secret lost family is fun for all of five seconds before you find out that they're actually kinda messed up uh oh. A big reason why Donnie acts so hostile towards his brothers is because it's easier for him to just dismiss them as mere enemies that he feels no attatchment to. He's basically being made to pick between this new family and his old one is Not Fun.

I get variations on this comment on my post about history misinformation all the time: "why does it matter?" Why does it matter that people believe falsehoods about history? Why does it matter if people spread history misinformation? Why does it matter if people on tumblr believe that those bronze dodecahedra were used for knitting, or that Persephone had a daughter named Mespyrian? It's not the kind of misinformation that actually hurts people, like anti-vaxx propaganda or climate change denial. It doesn't hurt anyone to believe something false about the past.

Which, one, thanks for letting me know on my post that you think my job doesn't matter and what I do is pointless, if it doesn't really matter if we know the truth or make up lies about history because lies don't hurt anyone. But two, there are lots of reasons that it matters.

It encourages us to distrust historians when they talk about other aspects of history. You might think it's harmless to believe that Pharaoh Hatshepsut was trans. It's less harmless when you're espousing that the Holocaust wasn't really about Jews because the Nazis "came for trans people first." You might think it's harmless to believe that the French royalty of Versailles pooped and urinated on the floor of the palace all the time, because they were asshole rich people anyway, who cares, we hate the rich here; it's rather less harmless when you decide that the USSR was the communist ideal and Good, Actually, and that reports of its genocidal oppression are actually lies.

It encourages anti-intellectualism in other areas of scholarship. Deciding based on your own gut that the experts don't know what they're talking about and are either too stupid to realize the truth, or maliciously hiding the truth, is how you get to anti-vaxxers and climate change denial. It is also how you come to discount housing-first solutions for homelessness or the idea that long-term sustained weight loss is both biologically unlikely and health-wise unnecessary for the majority of fat people - because they conflict with what you feel should be true. Believing what you want to be true about history, because you want to believe it, and discounting fact-based corrections because you don't want them to be true, can then bleed over into how you approach other sociological and scientific topics.

How we think about history informs how we think about the present. A lot of people want certain things to be true - this famous person from history was gay or trans, this sexist story was actually feminist in its origin - because we want proof that gay people, trans people, and women deserve to be respected, and this gives evidence to prove we once were and deserve to be. But let me tell you a different story: on Thanksgiving of 2016, I was at a family friend's house and listening to their drunk conservative relative rant, and he told me, confidently, that the Roman Empire fell because they instituted universal healthcare, which was proof that Obama was destroying America. Of course that's nonsense. But projecting what we think is true about the world back onto history, and then using that as recursive proof that that is how the world is... is shoddy scholarship, and gets used for topics you don't agree with just as much as the ones you do. We should not be encouraging this, because our politics should be informed by the truth and material reality, not how we wish the past proved us right.

It frequently reinforces "Good vs. Bad" dichotomies that are at best unhelpful and at worst victim-blaming. A very common thread of historical misinformation on tumblr is about the innocence or benevolence of oppressed groups, slandered by oppressors who were far worse. This very frequently has truth to it - but makes the lies hard to separate out. It often simplifies the narrative, and implies that the reason that colonialism and oppression were bad was because the victims were Good and didn't deserve it... not because colonialism and oppression are bad. You see this sometimes with radical feminist mother goddess Neolithic feminist utopia stuff, but you also see it a lot regarding Native American and African history. I have seen people earnestly argue that Aztecs did not practice human sacrifice, that that was a lie made up by the Spanish to slander them. That is not true. Human sacrifice was part of Aztec, Maya, and many Central American war/religious practices. They are significantly more complex than often presented, and came from a captive-based system of warfare that significantly reduced the number of people who got killed in war compared to European styles of war that primarily killed people on the battlefield rather than taking them captive for sacrifice... but the human sacrifice was real and did happen. This can often come off with the implications of a 'noble savage' or an 'innocent victim' that implies that the bad things the Spanish conquistadors did were bad because the victims were innocent or good. This is a very easy trap to fall into; if the victims were good, they didn't deserve it. Right? This logic is dangerous when you are presented with a person or group who did something bad... you're caught in a bind. Did they deserve their injustice or oppression because they did something bad? This kind of logic drives a lot of transphobia, homophobia, racism, and defenses of Kyle Rittenhouse today. The answer to a colonialist logic of "The Aztecs deserved to be conquered because they did human sacrifice and that's bad" is not "The Aztecs didn't do human sacrifice actually, that's just Spanish propaganda" (which is a lie) it should be "We Americans do human sacrifice all the god damn time with our forever wars in the Middle East, we just don't call it that. We use bullets and bombs rather than obsidian knives but we kill way, way more people in the name of our country. What does that make us? Maybe genocide is not okay regardless of if you think the people are weird and scary." It becomes hard to square your ethics of the Innocent Victim and Lying Perpetrator when you see real, complicated, individual-level and group-level interactions, where no group is made up of members who are all completely pure and good, and they don't deserve to be oppressed anyway.

It makes you an unwitting tool of the oppressor. The favorite, favorite allegation transphobes level at trans people, and conservatives at queer people, is that we're lying to push the Gay Agenda. We're liars or deluded fools. If you say something about queer or trans history that's easy to debunk as false, you have permanently hurt your credibility - and the cause of queer history. It makes you easy to write off as a liar or a deluded fool who needs misinformation to make your case. If you say Louisa May Alcott was trans, that's easy to counter with "there is literally no evidence of that, and lots of evidence that she was fine being a woman," and instantly tanks your credibility going forward, so when you then say James Barry was trans and push back against a novel or biopic that treats James Barry as a woman, you get "you don't know what you're talking about, didn't you say Louisa May Alcott was trans too?" TERFs love to call trans people liars - do not hand them ammunition, not even a single bullet. Make sure you can back up what you say with facts and evidence. This is true of homophobes, of racists, of sexists. Be confident of your facts, and have facts to give to the hopeful and questioning learners who you are relating this story to, or the bigots who you are telling off, because misinformation can only hurt you and your cause.

It makes the queer, female, POC, or other marginalized listeners hurt, sad, and betrayed when something they thought was a reflection of their own experiences turns out not to be real. This is a good response to a performance art piece purporting to tell a real story of gay WWI soldiers, until the author revealed it as fiction. Why would you want to set yourself up for disappointment like that? Why would you want to risk inflicting that disappointment and betrayal on anyone else?

It makes it harder to learn the actual truth.

Historical misinformation has consequences, and those consequences are best avoided - by checking your facts, citing your sources, and taking the time and effort to make sure you are actually telling the truth.
