In a hypothetical scenario where Spamton could physically (and was mentally ready to) talk about his puppetification with all the horrors it entailed…what aspects would he discuss?

Ooo so i've thought about this question a lot, like rolling the possibilities in my brain, and it makes for some rlly angsty convos that aren't meant to be but great in a hypothetical.

First, so i write ol spammy boy's puppetification due to my own hcs about how it all went down. like after he looked into the Brightest Spotlight Ever™️, he begs to his phone pal to show him more about the world above him. But in the attempt to do so, his benefactor ends up breaking him. This is when the physical glitches start and with each glitch, he becomes more and more of a literal puppet until the transformation is complete. I'd think these glitches were attempts to "fix" his programming, (maybe make him more sentient in the light world? wouldn't that be cool) but the phone guy just took more of spamton's control away from him. I believe spamton agreed to this, not knowing the consequences, but in his mind, providing more control to the guy on the phone was his ticket to becoming [bigger and better]. He was thinking that this was his way to get to that pretty light he saw in the shadow crystal, but nope, poor dude was let down and fell due to his own hubris. This preludes their connection being totally lost.

Over time, seeing less and less of himself and anticipating that feeling of the loss of self with every emerging error until it just embeds itself into his character... it's a dark theme and i love to mess with it lol. Computer body horror is just top tier

I think he'd reach out to Swatch first, as they were a front-row witness to his downfall, and he couldn't answer any question or concern they had about what was going on. He'd clear things up, detail what happened and how it wasn't him making these changes, it was his top investor. The glitches don't do any further permanent damage, they're just an after-effect now, but it's enough to make Swatch, and those around spamton, want to help him out with it. Like, Swatch was left horribly confused as to why spamton lost his marbles so abruptly and decided to latch onto neo, but this would provide an explanation rather than just give spamton an excuse for what he did.

He'd be glad to tell the addisons. Give em a good ol extra punch of guilt. While they were moping and writhing in their jealousy, thinking that spamton had it all and more, spamton was actually going through becoming a living jigsaw cosplay. After all the panic of reliving it, it'd be like him to start rlly guilting them with a smile on his face, rlly rubbing salt in the wound until it got too much.

that's my take on it at least! Honestly I can't decide if he'd talk about the implications of their existence with other darkners, but instead with us/Kris. I mean, it'd be hilarious af if he just dropped the identity of the knight and all those other mysteries, but if he did i'm 98% sure we'd just see him as unreliable and keep theorizing lmao

Oh boy... It's been 84 years since I got to talk about my other interests that are not Soulsb0rne xD Yes, I AM still waiting for Deltarune to be finished, just accept it </3

First impression: Bwahahaha, he is so funny! What the fuuuuuuuck xD I don't know how I never expected anyone like that from a COMPUTER-themed Chapter, but what the fuuuuck! xDDDD

Impression now: Honestly? This character cannot be OVER-rated. He is objectively good, and no amount of "hurr hurr mainstream :/" will make him cringe. Yes, that includes fanart that is not quite truthful to his real vibe. I just think he is a very good character - a much more sympathetic example of the character in the setting that gets to learn something he (probably) should have never known, and futility of fighting against it than, say, Jevil was. Jevil SIMPLY went mad, Jevil SIMPLY decided that if nothing is real then none are pain and deaths of people around him... Spamton, though? He still clings to the things he used to care about, he shares much more backstory from his former, more naive self, that 'self' is still alive within him, he wants to be 'real' rather than falling for complete insanity... There are just so many layers to him - all for the character whose EVERY fucking quote sounds like a shitpost. I appreciate the dissonance between his serious lore and his shitposty behavior a lot, actually. The classic of Indie games, hands down, one of the best Deltarune characters yet.

Favorite moment: You remember THE horror we all felt when by following his directions, we walked in the dead end room, and then tried to walk out of it...... only for the layout of the former screen to fucking CHANGE and create another dead end ;-; Also, the creepy smiley faces in the darkness. Fuckin. Fuckin CLASSIC of pixeley indie RPGs. I loved that small moment soooooo much. It is not to belittle his other moments - every single time he interacts with us and Kris is GOLD anyway. xD

Idea for a story: Lol, that's a hard one, let me refresh my memory... Well, I remember I came up with an idea of him and Noelle interacting - as an AU, or maybe parallel turn of events, or maybe 'it could not have happened in the game or else the chapter would not be fun, so just imagine if Deltarune story was NOT a game'... Yeah. I thought she'd find him funny, and that'd be how they'd strike a conversation.. And in that case, instead of Kris putting the (metaphorical) engagement and marriage rings on her, it'd be placing metaphorical princess and queen crowns on her. She'd basically become his secret weapon, convinced that Kris was possessed by an entity (TECHNICALLY true, by the way...) and they needed to extract it for everyone's sake (of course, for Spamton's first of all, hahah). SO yeah, Noelle would arrive as his secret weapon and have battle with the team instead. It also happened before some LORE about Noelle and Spamton got dropped, so when I also learned THAT, I was pleasantly surprised xD I am a prophet for real sfdfdhsd

Unpopular opinion: Hmmm... Well, I think fandom should never forget that he is both very sleazy AND very much of a loser. x) The last time I checked the fandom, I saw him either as a cute babyboy that toooootally simps for Swatch, OR as a super smart badass mastermind. But he is neither! He is a loser and cringe and fail, but at the same time tries his best to be sneaky. Not a nice person, but not an evil mastermind. He is cringe, but not JUST a comic relief - he has a lot going on! Just imagine a trademark card dealer sneaky guy being struck with the knowledge beyond his understanding... That's it. Basically, my unpopular opinion is just that with Spamton, it is a constant fight of the balancing the character! He is simpler than fandom portrays him AND more complicated than fandom portrays him at the same time!

Favorite relationship: Lol, all his relationship SUCK (source: check his lore) and none of this stuff is genuine anymore </3 However, I am a huge sucker for backstory material where he was still a wholesome family with the Addisons. I see them as actual brothers (divisions of the same concept for Darkners), with Spamton being more like adopted one. But, they all were cringe salespeople at some point! The Knight just HAS to always pick the outcast... Like how Joker card is the least used (so we got Jevil), and how natually, spam is the least checked kind of e-mail and advertisement... But he WAS their cringe weird brother at some point, who was failing but tried his best, and they still accepted him!

Favorite headcanon:

My favorite headcanon is that it was acid x) As much as I love the theme of a Darkner turning more toylike upon learning about the sheer HORROR of their existence, there are still other darkners who were not exposed to Chaos that show toy-like features. So yes, he had to be rebuild, I think.

HELLO DELTARUNE COMMUNITY

i had a dream that toby fox released chapter 4 of deltarune before chapter 3

the main motive was chaos and casinos iirc

kris susie and ralsei travelled plains and all.. the plains were blue-gray with small lighter grass strands

there were many enemies! one fo them was the warsheep. like warship but a sheep and they had only 2 legs and had swords. they also looked like chapter 1 ralsei kinda

there were also chaos birds who kinda looked like swatch... they were birds but they had long striped legs, their festhers were black and white and they also had some specjal fearhers that turned various colors and patterns.. the chaos birds were used to carry stuff around.. they also had feathers around their head that looked like roulettes

there were also purple cocoons that were explosive and they exploded into purple spikes. they appeared in rows and their gimmick was that they blocked other enemies (they couldnt get accessed at all). the modt successful way kf them was to use rude buster!! when they got introduced you only could play as susie..

abd there was ONE character who caused chaos on ACCIDENT. i dont remember his name but he was a bird creature and he was obsessed with books. he tricked the lightners into climbing the CHAOS TOWER. his face was flat. also i love him

the chaos tower was actually 3 towers! there were rooms full of traps but mostly it was stairs. at the end of each tower there was a key to be inserted along with collected green gems. there also was a riddle to be solved..

the key was to a chest which contained a golden staff that upon closer inspection had an aura around it that looked like spilled gasoline

the towers with the keys unlocked access to ANOTHER tower. where the king lived. he was a bird (peacock) creature the size of spamton. he had a golden crown with color changing gems in it but they were mainly red

the lightners found him and decided to beat him up! they did..

his bossfight music was regal but chaotic and the bossfight itself was on the similar difficulty as spamton neo.. he called on the chaos birds and all the other enemies to attack the lightners for him lol. anyways he got his feathers kicked

so they then inserted the 3 staffs into the holes in the wall that were dedicated to them.

..but turns out the king wasnt evil at all. the chaos towers were there to guard things and the staffs were items that prevented a calamity from happening.

the book bird character that caused the misunderetanding appeared and laughed a bit before realizing how fatal the mistake was. he mistook the lightners for something else and tricked them into messing up this whole world. the bird king got mad at them and suddenly the tower they were in (along with the 3 others) were about to collapse. the lightners decided to jump down and were helped by the recruited chaos birds. there was also an option to summon a bag and to put the bird king in it like a marketable plushie. if you did that you gained some sort of secret bonus but i forgot what it was. but you could save him and thats cool as fuck

anyways the towers blew up and everyone (or almost everyone) was safe! but there was an optional bossfight. a void creature. the fight was similar to omega floweys but i dont remember anything aside from the fact that it was rather creepy. think of spamton neos introduction in the basement. yeah kinda like that. slowed music and shit... i cannot remember what it looked like for shot but it had 6 eyes

but yeah. the lightnerds came back to their world and everything was.. fine.

What am I doing-

So, @sparkerinparadise has this really cool idea called sexyman descendants, and I instantly fell in love with the concept (I actually have kind of a similar idea, only it’s with exclusively cartoon and video game characters. I have no idea how I’ll get it off the ground, especially since the main character is a SpongeBob descendent lol-)

However, I am…not the best artist. Nor am I the best at making/describing Monster High-styled outfits. However, I am a good writer, so I’ll be writing descriptions for my seven (you read that right) OCs for sexyman descendants. I…might be also write some fanfic for this. BTW, these guys’ parents are all pulled from the sexyman Wikipedia (something I’d never thought I’d have to look up…)

LUCILLE DEVIL/MORNINGSTAR

Lucille has pale, almost grayish skin, pitch black, fluffy hair, her dad’s eyes and horns, fangs, and sharp claws that are usually painted black. I…have no idea what her outfit is; all I know is she has a black faux fur jacket and a pitchfork necklace. She’s on the shorter and lankier side, something the compensates for with heels.

-Pansexual

-Rules the cheerleading squad with an iron fist

-Also in both the drama club. Probably the one who takes the lead from @sporesgalaxy’s Spamton Jr. 

-Inherited her dad’s temper and crybaby tendencies

-Will occasionally try to con her classmates out of their souls

-Fairly protective of her step-sister, who is Dice’s daughter

Ivory is a average-sized, slightly curvy teen with dark skin, white hair with a purple streak in cube-shaped  puff pigtails, green eyes, and purple freckles. She wears a version of her dad’s shirt and jacket with the sleeves rolled up, a purple skirt with rows of all four card suites in pink and black, purple chunky high heels with dice for the heel, pink poker chip earrings, white gloves, and a black choker with a silver crown charm. She also wears purple lipstick and eyeshadow

-Assistant leader of the cheerleaders and member of the debate team

-Tried to start a gambling club in school, got shut down almost immediately

Callie is a small, lanky girl with pale, metallic skin, white hair in a messy bob, and dark eyes framed by square glasses. She wears a red and blue argyle sweater vest over a white t shirt, a blue skirt with a silver stripe at the bottom, knee socks with a yellow stripe on top, clunky heels that look like a computer mouse, and a circuit board hair clip.

-Head of the robotics/coding club

-Loves talking about computers!!!!

-Will throw you through a wall while screaming if you touch her

Diane is a tall, bulky girl with pale skin, long, dark hair in a braid, and blue eyes. I don’t have any outfit ideas for her, but I do know she has a sort-of steampunk-ish style, a love for the color purple, and high heels with a wheel for the heel (that can act as heelies because why not-)

-Daughter of Dick Dastardly

-Bisexual, with a preference for men

-Part of the robotics/coding team 

-Though highly intelligent, she occasionally ends up in detention because she cheated on a quiz or something minor

Eris is a tall, lanky teen with wild pale pink, almost white hair, tan skin, her dad’s mismatched horns, and heterochromia: one yellow and red eye and one green eye, both with different-sized pupils. I don’t have a set idea for her outfit, but I do know that the outfit doesn’t even seem to match itself, she has a different tie every week, and it’s made up of both her dad’s and mom’s color palette. She also paints each of her nails a different color and changes them frequently.

-Genderfluid (any pronouns) Polysexual (not attracted to people who identify as male)

-Daughter of Discord and Fluttershy

-Enjoys music and psychology classes

-His chaotic powers have an entire section in the school rule book dedicated to them

She wears a slightly torn white tank top with pale yellow stripes, a black biker jacket with spiky shoulders and sleeves and a red flame design on the back, torn green pants, black combat boots, spiky bracelets with a matching choker, and a green spiky shell purse.

-Daughter of Bowser Koopa (yes, I’m giving him another kid. Why not?)

-On literally ALL of the sport teams. Basketball, soccer, golf: you name it, she’s a member

i got another ask abt kim so i'll just do jevil here!

A - realistic: jevil is the kind of person who is either super energetic or abt to pass out, no in-between. he'll stay up for days on end but suddenly he'll be somewhere and just fall asleep on the floor and you won't be able to wake him up for hours and hours lol

B - unrealistic but funny: idk if it's exactly unrealistic, but i think he likes to play poker and is stupidly good at it, and all card games in general. although he's energetic and playful, he can sit down and be extremely patient and cunning as well if it's part of a game. spamton makes the mistake of challenging him to a game of poker once and comes to sorely regret it

C - awful but fun to inflict on friends: i headcanon jevil in the past as being much more friendly and trusting of others, but outside of his role as a court jester he had a rlly hard time making friends. he was a lonely little guy who needed emotional support and people to defend on, but people either viewed him as scary or as solely valuable for the comedy he provided and not as an actual person. seam was the one exception to this, but they didn't rlly know how to help jevil or get close to him, especially after he started to talk to the mystery contact and lose his grip on reality. he's still genuinely lonely, although he doesn't even realise it himself i think that deep down he just needs someone to accept him for who he is and relate to him as a person instead of a symbol/only with pity/disgust/fear

D - unrealistic but i reject canon: i talked abt this a lot when i was still in the grip of the deltarune hyperfixation, but i think it would be funny and interesting if spamton and jevil had actually known each other personally prior to spamton becoming corrupted, and that they'd maybe even had some romantic tension although i doubt it ever got realised

Alright I have been neglecting my spamton followers my pologies guysxx, I will actually share my headcannons and context for the spooky one so that’s down below for a bit of a read if interested

Been wanting to finish/make visual examples for some, but er, drawings tough and I’m a neat freak

They will probably popup at some point whoops haha! And sorry for any flaws ya can see I’m no writer!

While he is most often referred spooky spamton since I have two

He’s just the regular one for me, not quite an alternative version, just my take

On my first dr playthrough when the sprite popped up I thought it was super cute! Then his dialogue came on and oooohho I didn’t trust him at all, whoooo asks to see a soul?, didn’t help that I struggled to understand the text.

And look at that I was right not ta trust him, I saw the creepy opportunity right away so I made him more of a desperate villain and a “humble” salesman

Now I release the hoard

-A lot of repressed emotions this guy is under so much stress, who wouldn’t be mad and such to wake up in a dumpster every morning?

-Repressed violent anger, delightfully mischievous and malicious with goofy slip ups and occasional character breaks where he just loses his cool,

-He’s graceful, but not? When under control and not glitchin n flinching out he will smoothly unintentionally break and spill things, may or may not care, who knows. He often pretends or delusionaly think a lot of things aren’t a problem to lessen his already stressful state

-A dick to other darkners or anyone he can’t get anything out of, but is nice and friendly to lightners tho it seems it is a means to a end. A one track mind amplified by maddness, a grin fueled by the hopes and dreams of becoming big again and leaving his actions behind to heaven.

Now context on the physical

-Hes a shrunken Addison with no skin! I’m definitely taking the acid route

-All hollow with no blood or organs! which is normal. Red thin muscle does cling in the inside of the mannequin body and ball joints acting as well, tendons, and physical connections inbetween parts. Like gums in teeth. (Also gums visually appear on addisons only when under stress or when angry, so lol guess who most often has them,) Also the muscle can be stringy. Beyond that it’s all magic void and the heart

-He does have eyes, rectangle and dark saturated blue like all Addisons, he’s got this pop up situation goin on with them like gaster and jevil (My second drawing of him way back on whiteboard kinda hinted that he does have eyes) I’m debating whether to make them just lights like jevil and gaster or the full ball (and then there’s the lids and red lids hmmm)

-In my Addison lore they often keep them closed or hidden to public (popup eyes are a bit unsettling!) So his default is to void them out since he’s got no skin, he can see just fine. Just a neat lil side effect from being gasterised, he looks unsettling either way so might as well go with it

# my perspective has even changed since i made that post #bc that was before the reigan sans poll #which kinda changed tsm culture a bit. Kinda Funny How An Event Meant To Analyze Or Celebrate A Culture Ended Up Being A Relevant Milestone To TSM Studies And To How The TSM Culture Itself Is Seen And Understood By The Masses. (why am i talking about this so seriously?)

yeah no genuinely i’m utterly fascinated by it? like..?? when i first saw it happening it was like haha oh this is funny and then even when the wild shit with the finals of the poll went down and all the memes were made i still was just enjoying the ride. but like??? in retrospect it kinda feels like that poll REDEFINED sexyman culture in a way?

like i think when spamton became everyone’s next obsession kinda STARTED the reframing in the public eyes but the poll really cemented it. i think ever since the poll, tumblr sexyman has become like… a lot more CELEBRATED? i remember back when TSMs were starting to be discussed by more widespread sources (the izzzyzzz video essay comes to mind, lots of video essays popularized the phrase in a less niche circle) they were very critiqued in the whole “fandom latches onto any character who is a twinky white man and if theyre not human they’re turned into one” and i think that definitely IS still a criticism of the culture but i think since the poll and an overall shift in tumblr culture as a whole they’ve very mucu been almost heralded as mascots for tumblr as a whole.

there’s so many factors here i can think of beyond the poll and spamton too honestly: stuff like blorbo becoming a loved and accepted term, tumblr as a whole flourishing as a website as every other social media crumbles around it, and the resurgence of some older fandom culture

yo dawg any thoughts on DR chapter 2 thus far

I SURE DO because BOY there was a lot to unpack in that chapter. I'm still trying to sort out my thoughts about it, I like literally just finished the alt route a few hours ago which just gave me a whole bunch of new info to try and sort through, haha. I’m going to need to sit down and really think about it for a while before I can start spinning things together effectively.

BUT ANYWAY, FOR QUICK SPOILER-FREE THOUGHTS CHAPTER 2 WAS REALLY GOOD AND I LIKED IT MORE THAN CHAPTER 1 TBH I loved the expanded mechanics and the new sense of depth to everything, it gave a much clearer picture of what Deltarune is going to be than Chapter 1 I think. I think I was also more open to it this time since I was prepared for it going in - I got totally blindsided by Chapter 1 and had no idea what was going on or what it meant or if it was a sequel or what, but this time I knew what the deal was so I could just take Chapter 2 on its own merits. Loved the characters and the enemies and the bullet patterns were all really cute, loved it. It all felt really cohesive.

SPOILER THOUGHTS UNDER THE CUT for both the main route and the alt route (I like the name Snowgrave for it but in my head I just keep calling it the alt route, haha)

I’ll just do this as a list because I don’t have the energy to really get in-depth with a lot of it at the moment.

I’m really suspicious of Ralsei. I was suspicious of him before but I’m really suspicious of him now. It’s weird he can walk around in other dark worlds without turning to stone, that there’s a room for Asriel in the Queen’s mansion and not one for him, and VERY weird that he knew exactly what Kris had to do in the real world to bring the other darkners back into the dark world. How did he know that. Also he looked cuter with his hat.

Spamton is great and creepy, I was able to do his battle first try! Which was way better luck than I had with Jevil lol. Although, today I went to try and do it again just to check, and I spared Jevil my first try. :O So maybe Jevil got rebalanced? I dunno, it just seemed a lot easier all of a sudden. ANYWAY, SPAMTON IS GREAT

Spamton has to be ghost related but i’m not sure how yet, I assume Mettaton due to the form and the wings and the name and the recurring Neo motif in his theme, but there was also general ghost motifs in his theme as well and some things don’t add up. It did look like you find the disk in Mettaton Neo’s discarded body, and Seam says it might have belonged to an old Lightner. A lot of ghost connections. What if Spamton is Dess’s ghost

Love Queen and the Tasques, goes without saying I’m sure, all the enemies were so cute. Loved checking on Lancer in my items.

Hugely pleased with the ramped up gay and also Noelle is precious

Kris opening the fountains is an interesting twist. I wonder if they opened the first castle town fountain or not (also, no one else seems to see the castle town door?). It’s weird because there was a door connecting castle town to the card world, and there was no door to the cyberworld. But somehow Ralsei knew how to get there anyway? How did he get there? How could he tell. Ralsei’s up to something. I do not trust him.

Susie’s the best

The Snowgrave route is really creepy in a different way than the murder run in Undertale which I’m very intrigued by, I want to see where that’s going. There are interesting parallels you could draw between Kris controlling Noelle and the player controlling Kris, but again it’s something I’ll have to think more about before it becomes something more coherent. Something something “strength” being achieved by giving up control to someone else, blocking out what they do, just doing whatever they tell you, something something

The Flowey TV at the end is also intriguing, I wonder if Flowey is the one forcing Kris to remove their SOUL and do stuff. I wonder. Kris moves so jerkily without your control and also it seems like it takes a lot of time for Kris to get enough strength or control to move to pull the soul out in the first place. There’s the puppet/string connection that Spamton highlights, but also when he says that even when all the strings were cut, he wasn’t free. It could be that taking out YOUR soul just leaves Kris open to Flowey’s control instead. I dunno. Lot of questions.

Also strange that Kris deliberately opened the front door and turned on the TV before opening the fountain. And that they take their SOUL out pretty regularly, apparently? Toriel doesn’t seem that bothered by Kris spending a ton of time in the bathroom with the water on, anyway.

So Kris opened the fountain in the library at the end of chapter 1, then also went and ate all the pie. Then Kris went out and slashed Toriel’s tires (presumably) and possibly ate all the sugar in her car before opening the fountains. I wonder if there’s a connection between sugar and Kris pulling your soul out to do whatever.

 Ralsei says darkners turn to stone when they’re in a world that’s not their own, Onion says they hear a song from the ocean they can’t remember but they’re sure they’ve heard it before (Mother 1 nod, I see you!):

Noelle seems able to hear your voice as the player, or at least a strange terrifying voice that doesn’t seem to be Kris’s. My guess is the player, but if the TV really is Flowey, then maybe it’s him? Questions.

By the way you can do the Snowgrave route even if you’ve spared everyone up to that point. You can also start sparing people again right after Noelle leaves. Thus names like Murder run or Genocide run don’t really fit to me. Neither does weird run, weird implies something a lot less... dark? I think Snowgrave is the way to go here. Or alt I guess but that’s pretty vague, although people will probably know what you’re talking about.

The difficulty level was nice throughout, not too hard and not too easy. Close shaves, but nothing frustrating. I think I actually only died to Berdly and Spamton on the Snowgrave route, come to think of it. NO WAIT I died a lot to the teacups leading up to Spamton’s battle lol but that doesn’t count.

There’s a lot you can make out of Spamton’s dialogue and I don’t have the energy to stitch it all together right now though, haha. What he says in the store about, what was it... a call for you, asking if anyone was there? And then in the Snowgrave route where he says you can call for friends all you want and they won’t answer? An Earthbound nod of course, but still. It makes me wonder where things are going.

(There’s a second thing I want to tie to that but I’ll probably make that a separate post)

Given that Toby said there’d only be one ending and there are routes where Berdly is alive or DEAD, I get the feeling we’re heading for a “rocks fall, everyone dies” ending more than ever. Or an ending where the world of Deltarune is destroyed and becomes Undertale, or something. idk. I’m just speculating.

There’s an explanation for Kris’s saves now! Theories I had about it before are off-base now with new information, haha. So Kris has been saving in every dark world they create, which includes Castle Town. Well, if not them though, they saved over SOMEone’s file when they showed up there. I do wonder why the spade king and Queen didn’t recognize Kris though if they were the one convincing them to create chaos in their kingdoms. Although the video of the fountain being created DID say that there was so much smoke, you couldn’t see who was doing it. Maybe Kris was in disguise.

Spamton says something very weird when he talks about the knight at his store, which makes sense if Kris was actually the knight. I can’t remember it exactly though right now.

Spamton is really insistent on talking to Kris alone.

It could be that Kris is exploring the nature of freedom/control with Noelle during the Snowgrave route since they’re struggling with that themselves. Although the closer glimpses of the player during that route (when she seems to hear you, the player’s voice) make that a bit fuzzy.

It’s interesting that Noelle’s description says she freezes the enemy right off the bat before you do anything. Also she’s really hesitant and resistant about going to Spamton’s shop specifically it seems, and when she’s there she says something that implies “why did you bring me HERE” along with the odd line “there’s no one here, no one at all” and that it’s creepy and weird, but also nostalgic for her. I almost wonder if Noelle had something to do with Dess’s death (I assume Dess is dead from how everyone talks about her). Or if she believes she did, anyway. She could just be nostalgic for the scared feeling like she says to Kris later on a normal route, but I dunno. It’s weirdly specific.

When you fight enemies down with Noelle, it always says “Noelle got stronger” even if Noelle doesn’t kill the enemy with her magic, even though I’m pretty sure her stats don’t change unless you get the ice kill.

I remember when I played the first chapter I wanted to do a murder run immediately afterwards (that’s me! I’m still doing that!) and then as I went through I noticed I wasn’t killing anyone, no matter how hard I tried. They’d always heal themselves or run away until the game went the way it wanted me to, with only minor differences. To be honest, I found it kind of frustrating. It really did feel like control was being taken away from me, particularly because it presented the option and then did nothing with it. Why let me fight if it doesn’t do anything? Why harp so much on making good choices if I can’t make any other ones? What’s the point?

Then in chapter 2, it turns out oh hey, fighting will make you lose recruits, and it’s like alright, that makes more sense. But still I felt railroaded into this sort of fluffy, feel-good kind of path. Even when I fought everyone off on a normal route, it mostly went the same except with a few different bits of dialogue. Again, it was weirdly frustrating. It felt like something was missing.

And then, you get Noelle. And then it turns out you DO have a way to kill people, after all this time. NOW you have a chance to take control and stop doing what the game clearly wants you to do, and what everyone is telling you to do. You’ve found a loophole! YOU can’t kill anyone, but NOELLE can. There was a definite kind of contrary rebelliousness during that run for me, a kind of “you can’t stop me from doing this or ruining what you wanted me to do” kind of feeling, which I assume is meant to mirror how Kris feels all the time when your soul is in them. I didn’t see it as a need or instinct to level Noelle (no one in the game can even get levels through exp! There’s no point! No one’s important stats ever change except through equipment!), just a realization that you found a loophole in what you’re supposed to do - or who you’re supposed to be. Noelle’s just a tool for that, which Spamton even calls you out about in his final battle by asking if you want to “use” her again when you call for her.

AND SHE COMES WHEN YOU CALL HER TOO HOW DOES SHE DO THAT

Also interesting: when you call for your friends in that route to help you, they don’t come/can’t hear you, and Spamton says it’s your fault. If you call for your weapon though (Noelle) she comes almost immediately. You don’t even have to call her, you whisper her name once and she’s there.

There’s a lot going on in the route is the jist, haha.

I HOPE ASGORE IS DOING OKAY ;_; HE HAS TO BEG SANS FOR FREE PICKLES

I also noticed that when Sans is like “oh you keep your flowers under glass huh, like that movie” Asgore is like “yes it’s... very similar to that movie” with a shifty look. The flower in Beauty and the Beast symbolized the prince’s life. Asgore what are you up to. Did you get up to murdering antics again. He DOES say he talks to the flowers a lot.

I think the dark worlds are getting stronger, since in Chapter 1 everyone went home mostly fine, but in Chapter 2 injuries seem to carry over. Berdly freaking dies lol in the Snowgrave route, but also if you fight the Queen during that battle where Berdly has a wire in his face, he’ll eventually pull off the wire himself and in the process burn up his arm all crispy. Then in the real world, his arm is paralyzed! So things are definitely carrying over from one to the other.

Queen has to be related to Susie’s mom issues. Ralsei says darkners are meant to serve Lightners and follow them and bring them happiness - darkners might be a kind of Silent Hill thing where they reflect what Lightners want or fear (Noelle wants her mom to love and prioritize her happiness over everything, perhaps, or is just afraid of how smothering and controlling she can be). Also sad that the Ambulance enemies show up right after you get Noelle. :( And Queen mentions Noelle making a lot of sad and strange searches - I assume searches about whatever illness her dad has or how to deal with grief or guilt.

I thought maybe Spade King was Susie related thusly because he talks a lot about being a Bad Guy, but on second thought, his main motivation is resentment about being discarded and forgotten by Lightners and the people who used to give him purpose. Maybe he’s a reflection of Kris’s issues about Asriel leaving. Just speculating.

For some reason I pictured Asriel as a like football bro due to all his trophies but it sounds like he’s just a wussy as Ralsei is lol. Which makes sense. Ralsei was always kind of worryingly accepting of the abuse you dish out to him, he’ll forgive Kris of practically anything (I gave him an S. Poison and he was like OW! I mean, uh, thanks Kris! Haha!), he’s so desperate for Kris’s validation and affection. Asriel seems to have a sort of similar tendency in constantly going to confession for KRIS’S sins and sobbing about them FOR you. I wonder if Ralsei is just Asriel’s dark world form in disguise, thus why he hid his face for so long from you and changed his name.

(If Ralsei is Asriel in disguise then that makes his behavior towards his sibling PRETTY WEIRD tbh)

Kris is such a weird edgy kid. I worry about them, haha. I don’t think it’s as simple as Kris being an antagonist to the player or the player being an antagonist to Kris. It’s definitely interesting that Kris is making the fountains and the player is the one sealing them (it specifically says its your soul doing it). At first glance, making more fountains does seem like it’ll plunge the world into darkness and chaos, but then again... Ralsei’s the one telling you that, and who knows. Maybe he has his own agenda. There was a lot in this chapter about how the dark world is better than the light one.

If the dark world versions are meant to reflect the lightner’s souls or innermost desires or idealized visions of themselves, then Kris’s soul/desire/vision of themselves is... a corpse-blue dead knight. Bit worrying.

Awful lot of scarves in chapter 2 that pushed for Ralsei to attack people. A lot of attack uppers for him. Even Spamton’s item is a weapon for him that mentions abandoning healing. I know Jevil dropped a weapon for Susie too, but I dunno.

The fact you can fuse the Thorn Ring with a Pure Crystal (wherever that is) to make a creepy sword makes me think Noelle is going to come back again. Unless you’re supposed to get the thorn ring and then take it off her and abort the run at Berdly, which you could do I suppose. Still, it makes me think you and Noelle are going to keep going down that path together.

(What if the Pure Crystal is frozen Berdly? D: Or even an item you get off of Noelle if you kill her?)

Also very interesting that the ending credit theme is a glitchy version of the first chapter end theme. Don’t Forget was reprising constantly through the first chapter, but only showed up rarely in the second one. I only remember hearing a snip of it once, come to think of it, and I can’t remember where.

Boy there was a lot of shipteasing in pretty much every direction, wasn’t there?

Also I’m bumping this one up so it stays relevant to current events (the event being New Years Day lol). I have some downtime in between my commitments and this is how I chose to spend it haha.

“You’re absolutely too much, do you know that?” You sip at your drink, trying to soothe your own bubbling laughter as you watch your friend fall apart on the stool next to you. He had just finished reenacting a scene from one of his favorite comedies; or, more accurately put, attempted to reenact said scene. He started giggling at his own joke long before you did, which made you laugh harder than the bit would’ve anyway.

“I THINK YOU’RE [Too Much].” He retorts with a couple stray giggles. He looks up at you with wide pupils behind his tinted lenses, basking in the light of your own smiling face. It’s enough to make your heart leap into your throat, so you shove it back down by finishing your drink.

“I think this place is too much, wanna head home?” You place your glass on the bar next to you and lean closer to his face.

“[Homeward Bound] IT IS!” He follows suit and downs the rest of his drink before hopping off the bar stool, swaying a little as he lands.

“Easy now, Big Shot.” You place a hand on his shoulder as he steadies himself, feeling a lightness in your head as you stand. You figure you probably could’ve done without that last drink, and feel grateful you have a short walk home.

You sigh as you enter your apartment, grateful to be out of the cold winter air. Spamton has been trying to say a whole lot of something on the walk home, but could barely get more than a couple words out before bursting into a fit of giggles. He’s still softly chuckling to himself as you glance over at him trying to unzip his jacket. You had been relieved to discover that he was a bubbly, sappy drunk, as the opposition would’ve been a little tough to handle. It’s nice to see him having a good time, even if assisted by a little giggle juice.

“Do you need help with that?” You tease as you kneel down in front of him.

“I [Got It], I’M ALL [Six Piece Dining Set], [Doll].” He furrows his eyebrows as he struggles to decode the complicated mechanism that is a zipper. You decide that he does not, in fact, ‘got it’, and opt to give him a helping hand. You place a hand on his hip to keep him still while reaching the other towards the zipper, and he jumps with a yelp.

Oh. Your light head connects the dots. You both make silent eye contact for a brief moment before you address him with a smirk.

“Spamton.” You croon and he shudders. “I think you do need help.” You place a hand on either side of him and squeeze lightly as you pull him closer to you, earning more of the giddy giggles you’ve grown so fond of.

“NO [No] [Negative], I DO N<OT.” You give a couple more light squeezes and he half heartedly pushes at your hands, more for show than as a real effort to stop you.

“I dunno, seems to me like you’re having just a little bit of a tough time.” You unzip his jacket and sneak your hands inside to knead at his ribs, earning a full outbreak of laughter from the short salesman. He leans against you for support as he laughs, his head resting on your shoulder. You feel your face flush, but blame it on your own tipsiness.

“You’re lucky you have me here to help you out.” You walk your fingers up to his armpits and he lurches. “Or else you might be stuck in this jacket forever.”

“YOU [Call Now!] THIS, AHA, H-HELPING?” He loses all composure as you wiggle your fingers under his arms, laughing heartily while pressing himself against you.

“I do.” You slow your movements before actually sliding the jacket off of him. His near-deafening laughter fades into hushed chuckles. He’s still leaning against you as he gathers himself, staring up at you with the brightest look in his eyes.

“YOU’RE RIGHT.” He says suddenly, and you look down to shoot him a quizzical look. He elaborates by adding, “I AM LUCKY.”

“Yeah.” You sigh, choosing to once again blame your warm cheeks on tonight’s beverages of choice. “Lucky you’re cute.”

While you didn’t necessarily mean to say it out loud, you can’t say you didn’t enjoy the way it turned his face bright red. For a split second you swore his pupils became heart shaped, but then again, you perhaps did have one too many tonight.

I'm gonna talk about my two spamton blorbos now

Those are the two Spamtons I roleplay and i wanna infodump about them because i need to and this is my blog and i can do whatever i want

They both have very similar backstories but very different personalities (or rather, the personality traits that are emphasized in each of them are different). Assume the same framework for both, with small butterfly-effect type differences

Greedton is 43, lives in 2001, is a big shot turned malewife, is into joker fashion (flashy suits mostly, he looks like a yakuza character). He's called Greedton because he directly quoted the Onceler in roleplay before

He has three children with pink addison, whom he abandoned when he made it big and never called back or assisted; his letters and emails were always sorted into fanmail and given a template reply, and his calls were never put through to Greedton. He had no idea pink was trying to contact him for about one or two years, and he didn't care enough to go after him because he was taking a big sip of the greed and pride cocktail

When Gaster stopped calling him, his profits slowly started trickling down, and when he's not the winner of the Salesman of the Year 2001 award (which would make him the winner for 5 years in a row), he has a joker moment, gets beaten up, and then decides to take responsibility for his stuff and calls pink addison, asking to be back in his and their kids' lives. He agrees and then shortly after he moves in with them

He liquidates everything he has and basically just becomes a stay-at-home dad, occasionally taking from his funds to help make ends meet if things are dire (because he and pink agree all the money he got should be going to their kids for when they grow up). He's currently recovering from addiction, adjusting to being an addison that can't advertise, learning to be a good dad and struggling with his broken relationship with pink. As much as being a househusband isn't what he pictured himself doing like, ever, he's still pretty happy about it, and enjoys it greatly.

Greedton is very straightforward when talking, he's not afraid of saying what he thinks even though it might be rude. He has good intuition and is often dependable to his friends and loved ones in the same way your grandma is: he feeds you, he brings you medicine, he keeps you warm, he confronts you about things you need to be confronted about. This comes at the price of being extremely reserved and self-loathing, constantly in denial and pushing people away: he's fine, he doesn't need help, you don't really care about him because nobody really does, and nobody really would want to. He's a bottle of sparkling water that I am very happy to shake, day by day, and once it's got enough pressure in it, it's going to explode.

Skunkton is 62, is from present day, got the bottom half of his face burned off when he fell from big shot-dom and likes painting, especially murals; he has every disease. It's pretty self-evident why he's called Skunkton, methinks. While his rp version takes place pre-game, he's from a Snowgrave route timeline, but hasn't really invested on a ring yet.

His story is pretty much the same as Greedton's, but instead of calling pink, he simply kept on spiraling down, excruciatingly slowly. He spends all of his money trying to fix his own problems, but it's all for nothing. Getting more and more desperate, with bills he can't afford, employees he can't pay, and drug habits sucking him dry, he has one public meltdown right after the other, and in a particularly bad one, he takes LSD, has a bad trip, climbs on a burning building and sees Heaven through the crystal shard, which he had previously acquired but never had any use for. From this, he suffers severe burns on most of his body and part of his face, leaving his limbs' mannequin and the marionette-like structure of his face exposed.

While recovering from the burns, Queen dump-evicts him, and before they could kick him out of the mansion, he's already gone. He doesn't have anyone to turn to, since he burned bridges with everyone before he was a big shot, and by this time he's been such a high-maintenance friend that none of his rich friends lend him a hand. From there, he ends up living in the streets, and has been unhoused for 20 years. Quite the bowl of humble soup.

Due to Gaster tampering with his code, and then not updating it due to disappearing off the face of the earth, Skunkton is currently suffering from corruption, a degenerative disease that cyber world darkeners get when their code stops being compatible with the world's own coding, thus, they stop updating along patches. Essentially, this is one of the three reasons that cause his brackets (the other two are Gaster censoring his curse words, and a faulty voicebox inserting random related voiceclips in place of what he's actually saying), and is a source of frustration and struggle for him.

Right now, he's found a permanent home, and is slowly taking steps to healing from all the shit he's been through while homeless, as well as forming closer bonds with people he's met since. It feels normal, it feels safe. He barely thinks about Heaven now, even though he's been obsessed with it for decades, because truly the real Heaven is the ties he's made with his new loved ones.

Skunkton is energetic, bold and wild. A friend you'd take with you to party with. He doesn't have much in terms of morals, and he's not above doing very bad things to get what he, or people he cares about, needs. He appreciates friendship, though, and will often gift people or do small favors as roundabout ways of saying he cares and treasures them.

I haven’t been super active on this blog because frankly I have like, three? looong analysis/theorycrafting posts I’ve been putting off working on and it fills me with shame to log in and see them waiting in my drafts.

But.

With the release of Deltarune Chapter 2, I wanted to talk kinda in general about how I thought it could impact the fandom’s perception of Everybody’s Favorite Demon Baby, and also point out something in specific about the Weird Route that might connect back to Undertale.

Putting it under the cut to avoid spoilers and long-winded ramblings for the unwilling. Includes spoilers for the Weird Route.

(NOTE: may update later if I notice more things for to put in section II. I’d like to make a full list of parallels if I can tidy them up.)

I. Pre- vs Post-Release Thoughts (you can skip down to II if you don’t care, it is genuinely Long and Pointless)

Okay, so first off. I got SO worried like, the day before the new chapter dropped? It hit me that whatever new stuff we got out of this, people would connect back to Undertale, and. Honestly, I really do hate connecting everything back to Chara, because I do think of Kris as their own character and I really like them and don’t want to ignore everything they got going on. But, I am first and foremost a shameless Chara stan and they’re very important to me, so I kinda... did spend a few minutes reeling from all the new DR stuff as its own stuff, and then immediately started thinking about how this would reflect back on Chara in Undertale lol.

But that’s ok for me to do here because this is my All Chara, Only Chara, All The Time blog, so I am gonna only really talk about Deltarune here to talk about them lol.

So yeah, I started getting anxious beforehand worrying about how everyone would take any and all implications and apply it to mean “aha, Chara IS evil!” The fakeout with the pie reveal in the anniversary stream was a big relief, but I still got worried leading up to the release about what could be in it.

Because part of why I’ve always thought that “Chara was genuinely evil from the start” and even “ok maybe not TOTALLY evil, but Chara was still a kinda bad person” were unlikely was, even if you throw out all the other popular Chara-sympathetic theories. To me, both these takes just seemed too below TF’s talent and the way he wrote all his other characters with depth and love; a Chara like the one these theories propose just doesn’t belong in a world created by TF, and the way the Dreemurrs talk about them overall, the way TF made a point of having Chara say they were guided and repeatedly, correctly blame you the player for the destruction in Kill-All, I was sure that he never intended them to ever be as bad as the fandom sometimes tried to make them out to be.

... Like, mostly sure. Like, 80% sure? Because he never ever talks about them, so it’s impossible say for sure, and it is still theoretically possible that “Chara was and is bad” was the cold-ass take he’d intended all along. So yeah, leading up to the release, I started getting antsy that whatever new lore came out of it, either he’d directly confirm “Chara was a villain?” “*cocks gun* Always has been” or there’d be something that’d at least heavily implicate them, or could be twisted to implicate them, as a negative force. More ammo to be used against them in the Chara Debate Circles would be a drag, and outright confirmation of them as a villain would honestly break my heart and I’d be forced to disown Toby Fox, My Beloved Cool Dad.

And, right now? Tell the truth, I’m SO relieved and I am SO happy. And not just because of how much depth and characterization it seems Kris is getting! (imo, because rn I just headcanon them as an unhappy teen desperately trying to keep their new friends going on adventures with them and trying to fight back against the player’s control)

I love how this chapter seems to be TF doing course-correcting based on fandom interpretations. Because Kris just isn’t evil, even if they are a knife teen, even if they are the Knight, they’re just NOT evil and that’s canon, baybeeee; it’s made clear in this chapter and the previous one that they love their family even outside of the player’s control, they care about their new friends even outside of the player’s control, they’re established as a weird creepy kid but no one sees them as scary or evil, they’re just Kris, and even in the Weird Route, TF made a point of hammering in the differences between Kris and the player in the Weird Route: Susie and Ralsei notice how distressed Kris seemed after you have Noelle ice Berdly, Noelle heard a voice that she said wasn’t Kris telling her to kill, and the FUCKING Spamton fight: “Kris called for help... but nobody came” again and again, and then “You whispered Noelle’s name”... you, not Kris.

I know TF has never commented much on fans’ perceptions of Frisk and Chara, or who exactly is pulling strings in different routes. But after all this, and especially after seeing all the little winks and nods to fandom jokes in this chapter (what comes to mind: pulling everyone’s leg by seeming to have Kris attack Toriel with a knife only to reveal that pie theory was right, Susie not liking Ralsei’s real face as much as his shadowed one, Ralsei with a gun getting referenced with the ad, Kris getting a joke fixation with knives after the fans made Chara and Kris have knife obsessions as a joke), and seeing what looks like him try to correct some things (what stuck out to me was doubling down on showing that Kris is loved and valued in their family: lots of fans came away from Chapter 1 thinking that Kris was not valued as much as Asriel, but here we see that Toriel is supportive of Kris’ friendship with Susie, and it’s stated that Asriel is the one who used the crappy controller, not Kris) -

I think while he hasn’t commented directly, while he admitted to being overwhelmed by Undertale’s success, while he tends to be pretty tight-lipped about the lore (whether that’s because it’ll be addressed by future chapters or because he prefers to let fans sleuth it out), this chapter convinced me that Toby does keep tabs on fan reactions in Deltarune, so he probably does with Undertale too and would know about all The Discourse surrounding Little Mx Pink Cheeks (and in turn, popular theories like Narrator Chara... Toby if you integrate Narrator Chara into Deltarune being a borderline creepypasta and have the narrator start talking directly to the characters or to the player or the characters start talking to the narrator I will lose my damn B E A N S).

(Kris and Chara not being demonized and the narrator interacting directly with the characters were the only two things on my wishlist going in, I was fine with literally anything else happening lmao)

I even kinda think he’s going out of his way to separate Kris and the player because we didn’t get it before with Undertale, we still insisted that Frisk or Chara was the one doing it, and he’s even using Kris to show that even if this kid can be scary, maybe even mean, and maybe they’re even the Knight (with their reasons unknown), they’re still not a bad kid, they’re still funny and likable, and they still genuinely love their family and friends - which falls in line with Undertale’s cast of complex but likable people who can be antagonists and make mistakes but still aren’t truly bad people, and imo is a direct response to some people fixating on the idea that Chara was always evil because they seem scary/complicated.

... Which is a long way to say that I came out of Deltarune with my confidence fully restored about TF’s intentions with Chara and Kris. Even if he never comments on Chara directly, now I really don’t think TF thinks they’re evil or ever intended for them to be. Deltarune convinced me more than ever that Chara is meant to be complex, yes, and able to be influenced to do horrible things, but they were never intended to be as malicious or shallow as some fans insist.

TLDR:

Toby Fox read your mean fanfiction where Chara is a bad abusive serial killer no one likes, and he made Deltarune in revenge.

... Hm? Ah, you’d like me to get to the point! Right this way!

II. Undertale, Deltarune, and The Point

While no doubt some will still take the voice Noelle hears to be Chara influencing her to turn her into a murderer (I haven’t gone looking for it yet, but I’m sure it’s already a thing because I know this fandom), since it’s made too clear by the game that they can’t blame Kris for this one, I think at this point that’s just being too stubborn to consider other ideas.

If you believe in the totally made up idea used in so many fanfics that Chara is an evil spirit trying to whisper in Frisk’s ear to kill everyone, literally (for some reason) the embodiment of raising stats, and gets more control over people who have increased LV to take over their body... sure. Could be them, they did talk about moving on to the next world and all. I mean, that wouldn’t really make sense because it’s literally never implied in the actual game that Chara encourages you to kill outside of the Kill-All Run or even wants you to, certainly not as the narrator and we get no hint of them doing this as an unseen, unheard third-party either.

Not to mention they’re NOT literally possessing you because of increased LV; they don’t control you even with high LV in any Undertale route other than arguably the Kill-All, and if you fail the Kill-All and it turns into a high-body count Neutral, Chara suddenly stops using first-person narration and showing up in mirrors entirely even though they were showing themself before, the LV remains the same or even can get raised as high as LV 19, nor do they suddenly take over in any other Neutral runs. We can speculate on why (personally, I’d place this either on Chara’s mindset, such as them sinking into shock from the trauma or becoming more assertive as the player feeds their megalomania, or as a sign of Frisk’s withdrawal, leaving Chara alone in the body to take the reins and act out the player’s orders), but canonically, no, Chara does not take over due to high stats.

In fact, there’s even more evidence against this. First-person narration also exists for fleeing your battles in Undertale, even on Pacifist runs with base stats, 0 EXP, and an LV of 1. Since Chara is established to use first-person narration to refer to themself, is the only one who canonically does so, and is confirmed to be present even in all runs through their name and memories always showing up, it seems pretty likely that Chara can take control to flee battle. That means an increase in stats is not a sign of their presence or control, in Undertale or Deltarune.

The most damning blow to the idea that Chara is the voice corrupting Noelle are the lines in the fight with Spamton I mentioned. Kris called for help, but nobody came. You whispered Noelle’s name. Well hold on. If that’s Chara, shouldn’t it be “I whispered Noelle’s name”? As soon as you’ve officially started the Kill-All in Undertale, Chara starts up their “It’s me, Chara” schtick right away, right there in Toriel’s home in the first area, and if they weren’t the narrator before, they’re beginning to speak through the narration now. If the voice was Chara, surely Toby Fox knows it’d be a way bigger “oh shit” moment if the creepy scary hidden route once again switched into first-person, scaring us the same way he did before when we first saw “It’s me, Chara” and knew something was wrong; unfairly or not, their reputation as a villain is still well established and hinting to Chara’s presence with a simple “I” would drive the menace even further, if he intended for them to simply be a demon that possesses player characters when you grind enough. But it’s still just you. The player.

The Weird Route does even more to help Chara’s case than that. Not only is it made pretty clear that Kris and the player are separate, and the player is the one responsible for corrupting Noelle and making her kill... consider how similar Noelle and Chara are, in the Weird Route and the Kill-All Route.

This “voice” that “guides” them in growing strong, compelling them to kill everyone in order to fight for them, eventually driving them to murder people they know. Chara calls themself “the demon that comes when people call its name”, and you whisper Noelle’s name to have her appear to kill Spamton. Noelle’s conflicting emotions towards Kris and the voice as she is manipulated, as she becomes more violent and sadistic, as she goes into shock; does that not sound like Chara, who flipflops between holding you dear as their partner and wanting to move on to the next world together, to be together forever, and them being disgusted by your refusal to accept consequences and the perverse enjoyment you get in killing everyone again and again? Chara, who clings to their quirky narration for much of the Kill-All, but keeps slipping up, who becomes terrifyingly cold, aggressive, power-hungry, and even sadistic, yet still calls Undyne “the heroine”, still seems to still care about their locket, still has moments where they seem to falter?

Noelle does put up significantly more resistance to the voice’s commands than Chara does, and at least much more visibly shows distress and trauma. I don’t think this is a black mark on Chara’s chara-cter either, or an indication of them being more violent or cruel.

For one, while Noelle is still herself with her own soul, it is heavily implied by Chara, Flowey, and Undertale’s lore that Chara was reincarnated without their own soul, at best perhaps attached to Frisk’s (or yours): as I speculate in one of my currently unfinished theories, while monster souls are made up of love, compassion, and hope and thus Asriel was reincarnated without these qualities, it could well be that human souls are correspondingly made up of their own multiple traits, namely determination, patience, bravery, integrity, perseverance, kindness, and justice; if true, a soulless Chara would be lacking these qualities, which would make them less equipped to resist the player’s commands or to feel as torn up about it.

Also, the player has a hold on them both as “party members” to the player’s vessels, but it is also possible that the player naming Chara and having them directly attached to Frisk also gives them a stronger connection to Chara they can abuse, similar to how Kris and Frisk (as the player’s direct vessels) have much less autonomy than Kris’ party members.

(Fun observation: We know that when the thing controlling Kris forced Noelle into becoming a killer and using her to kill Berdly, Kris was horrified and shaken-up according to Susie and Ralsei. How do you think Frisk felt watching Chara be used to slaughter the Underground and then erasing the world when they’re totally corrupted?)

And lastly... look, Noelle and Chara are both minors, but Chara is significantly younger - a small child compared to Noelle’s teen. I know it’s fiction and strong wills and determination and anime is real and all, but a traumatized young child who died two violent and awful deaths back-to-back, may have literally experienced being a corpse in their own coffin/grave for who knows how long, and then came back ”confused” only to immediately start hearing a voice relentlessly commanding them to kill everyone?? I can absolutely see a traumatized kid shutting down and just going with it out of fear at first, before the LV sets in.

TLDR:

What you do to Noelle in the Weird Route is the same fucking thing you do to Chara in the Kill-All Route.

Okay so obviously they work for Queen since they work and probably live at the mansion

Their position isn't as high as Swatch but they are above most Swatchlings in terms of position

They do a very specific job and I'd say they're decently known for it to those who come visit Color Cafe

This idea comes from my friend, but we know that the Swatchlings do dumb stuff for Queen while remaining all fancy and stuff

Well, even if Queen genuinely cares about Spectre actually enjoying working there, just for the fun of it she goes "ight bestie well so you can keep your special role and all that make a show for me"

and they do

occasionally, Spectre will perform for Queen or any others who might want to watch with either skating or ice skatin

Wether or not the other Swatchlings enjoy this goes from Swatchling to Swatchling but I can tell that some of them feel absolute dread when Spectre is like AYO WE DOING ANOTHER PERFORMANCE SOMETIME THE QUEEN WANTS YOU IN AND YES WE'LL HAVE CANONS PSPSPSPSPSP

They're already more energetic, jolly and silly than the usual Swatchling and while they're also pretty fancy and composed most of the time they can let their energy out on this

Also like, they do enjoy like, standing out and having attention on them so this is a bonus

Queen does genuinely enjoy this stuff and I am sure at first she was like lmao do this hell yeah sounds fun I dunno but I think she quickly realized yo y'all got talent

Spectre definitely overapologizes and if they screw a thing up they feel BAD BAD about it

They actually wear those protective covers on their knees because I think with how the Swatchlings can bounce with their entire body in that one attack they have

I think they're like... Pretty beefy you know? Like they also deinitely have a hard head like you cannot hurt them that way

HOWEVER skidding down like nasty ass concrete and getting a nasty fuckin scratch on your knees isnt fun anyone who went thru that can say sdfgsrgeth since fallin down on your head on something hard and skidding down a hard floor at high speeds are different kinds of damage

So they wear those since they wanna avoid that lol, they're a skilled skater, but you'd never know

They're also pretty scared of the Maice like the other Swatchlings, they're just so fast and tiny y'know

They probably don't like Tasque Manager even if they're covorkers

They like having fun sometimes and like... Bro... Not EVERYTHING HAS TO BE PERFECTLY ORDERED SHUT UP

They definitely draw little smiley faces and doodles on the customer's checks :)

If you're an asshole their niceness could possibly be exploited

They're not stupid and not so completely pacifistic as Ralsei, but they don't wanna hurt people either especially emotionally since it's very complex stuff

They still have beef with people though, like I said with Tasque Manager like they're definitely not perfect

While as a whole they're like

but they're also LMAO YEAH FUCK THAT BI-

I think Swatch is secretly also somewhat energetic, but not as much as Spectre

They are very talkative and love to talk, and tend to overshare as seen in their dialogue where they cut themselves off from telling a secret to a complete stranger

I think that's how Spectre knows all about the basement since they not only work with Swatch, are good friends but Swatch is also like
