Ooooh, this will be a challenge! I’ve done the teirmaker list thing twice for TBHK ships but my opinion on them keeps changing (there are some I used to not care abt that are now some of my favorites). I think I’m gonna try to break this up into sections to make it easier

The Holy Trinity

Aoinene- Obviously my all time fave. Also the “best friend becomes the villain” trope is simply superior

Mitsukou- This one recently swapped with Terukane. I expected it to be my favorite bcuz canon gays usually are but Aoinene surpassed them. Terukane- Don’t be fooled by it dropping one level, I still love them a lot!! I like the fanon concept of them helping each other heal, especially when fics have Akane taking care of Teru. Really, this is my “I just want Teru to be happy” ship lol. The shippers are so funny and good at analyses, and I like how they both thrive off of their rivalry. They have such a comedic duo thing going on too, the final exam chapter was so funny. Their relationship is built on trust, or something like that

Absolutely Fucking Love

AoiAoi- This one may come as I surprise considering Aoinene and Terukane are so high but I’m obviously a huge multishipper. The thing with their names is so funny to me, it’s the first thing I tell my friends abt TBHK every time I introduce them to it. I love how complicated they are while at the end of the day still being very dedicated to each other. They’re both so down bad, it’s cute. Despite their initial toxicity, I strongly believe this is the healthiest canon ship but I’ll hold my tongue

Terukaneaoi- I am strongly hesitating to put this one so high since it used to be more of an after thought but I simply cannot separate AoiAoi and Terukane from this ship so it feels fitting. Even if I’m shipping two of them without the other I still imagine them being very important to each other. My enjoyment of the manga increased tenfold when I started interpreting their love triangle as “Aoi and her two boyfriends.” Lowkey believe AidaIro ship them too. This is what I mean when I say we need more poly ships

Hananene- Also struggling to put this one so high but they’re the main couple, I feel like they deserve this spot. Every now and then I start to think I don’t care abt them that much but then I remember the ending of the Picture Perfect arc and I’m like oh right. They’re soulmates. Their relationship is one of the highlights of the manga for me. I mainly prefer this ship with Amane’s personality over Hanako’s but they are the same person so it’s cute either way

Sakuhiko- This was very briefly my favorite. I headcanon them as sapphics which gives them extra points lol. I love how Natsuhiko seems to know Sakura so well, and how dedicated he is to them. I like the idea of them having a less conventional relationship, they aren’t “together” but they’re still together. Very romantic and typical TBHK fucky messed up stuff. Villain couples are elite

Aoimei- This one could’ve been higher than HanaNene and Sakuhiko but I’m a coward lol. I’m happy that AidaIro gave us sapphic breadcrumbs, even if it was only in an au. To me these two just make sense, they would be perfect for each other. Mei is absolutely a lesbian in my eyes and Aoi has gotta be some type of sapphic. I like that they stayed together even after the love potion, and how Aoi was more comfortable with the idea of Mei falling in love with her than any of the guys. I am absolutely in love with this ship

Adore

Aoimei 2.0- This is the version with No.4 Mei. I am not the first to come up with it but I do believe I’ve made the most fan content for them lol. I sometimes like this more than OG Aoimei but they’ve sadly never interacted in canon so it gets docked a section. It’s such an interesting concept, the way both of them exist as a culmination of the rumors made about them. They would have such an interesting dynamic, in my mind they are enemies to lovers lol

Terukaneaoinene- This one is soooooo underrated. Terukaneaoi is great enough on its own, add Nene and you have all the best ships mixed together. You have to be deep into multishipper hell to like this one bcuz p much every combination of ships here are enemies with each other. Best solution? They all date

Akaneneaoi- Okay I’m just gonna go through every poly variation within Terukaneaoinene here, they’re all pretty interchangeable with each other. This one is great because it’s Aoi and her two favorite people

Teruaoinene- Supremely underrated!! Teru is great, he deserves two girlfriends. And instead of Aoi and Nene being pitted against each other bcuz Nene likes Teru and Teru likes Aoi, they both get to date him AND each other. So fun

Teruakanene- Their little date was so cute (technically they’ve gone on two now). Idc if it was meant to be a Terunene date, Akane was included in my heart. Not crazy abt the lack of Aoi here but this is still an elite ship (one of my mutual named them Pineapple Pals)

TeruAoi- This one is deeply controversial. Tbh it could be above the poly ones I just listed but I like them more in the context of Terukaneaoi or Terukaneaoinene. Teru’s potential crush on her in canon is very cute to me, and I like how she seems to warm up to him throughout the series. I will never understand how people headcanon that they hate each other lol, either they’re dating or they’re best friends

Meinene 2.0- No.4 Mei version ofc. This one is a bit interchangeable with OG Meinene but I like this one a teensy bit better bcuz of the hand-holding scene. Every time I listen to “I Wanna Hold Your Hand” by the Beatles I think of them. This is truly my “I just want Mei to be happy” ship. I like the idea of Nene helping her work on her mental health/self-image issues

Meinene- OG Mei version. Their pancake date lives in my head rent free. Might like it a bit better than the other Meinene but idk they swap a lot. Recently this Meinene has been consuming all my thoughts. It feels so canon, AidaIro clearly wanted Mei to have a girlfriend

Sakunene- This ship should be so much more popular than it is. Like every ship listed below Aoimei 2.0 in this section, it could be swapped with any of the others depending on my mood. This is PEAK enemies to lovers hero/villain character foil vibes. They are everything to me. Nene having a crush on Sakura is lowkey canon so I wish more people recognized their potential

Terunene- So overhated because people have no imagination smh. If Nene came to understand who Teru really is (I think she’s learning but shhh) I think they could be absolute couples goals. my thoughts on the first throne of glass book

so i finally started reading throne of glass two days ago and i just finished it and i rlly loved the first one! i didn’t start with assassin’s blade because i’m following the reading order sjm herself suggested. but i figured i’d give my thoughts on the book just for funsies. this isn’t like a review really just what i’m feeling abt the series thus far.

for quality i’d give it a 6/10 but for how much fun i had reading i give it a 9/10 and i care WAYYYY more about entertainment personally lmao. so overall i’d probably give it like an 8/10.

• so i’m gonna be honest i’m beyond confused about celaena’s name. bc everything i’ve ever seen about tog talked about some chick called aelin. now i’m just kind of assuming they’re the same person somehow but i have no idea what’s going on in that regard

• it was an enjoyable read but you can def kinda tell it was written when sjm was younger lol. but i know the writing is just going to continue to get better so it didn’t bother me THAT much, though i must say i’m anxious to get to the later books for that reason

• this book was FUNNYYYY omfg dorian and especially celaena had me laughing out loud at times. i hope the books stay this funny

• I LOVE CELAENA SM. like that’s my girl fr fr. thus far feyre is still my fav sjm fmc but honestly celaena has potential to change my mind

Like think abt Merlin feeling like he imposed on Arthur & Gwen's relationship simply bc he thinks the 2 are perfect (Merlin is obv so gone for them) & therefore perfect for each other but without him mixed into it bc „he doesn’t have a place there in their relationship“

Or him already feeling insecure abt a potential position in a 3-way-relationship bc of the whole thing with Lancelot’s shade & probably thinks Arthur would therefore react badly or hurt

Or maybe throw in a magic reveal where Guinevere & Arthur are both shocked at first ofc & Gwen gets over that & is all reasonable/starting to understand & Arthur is still blown away/angry & just can’t understand so maybe Merlin sees their different opinions on the magic matter & thinks he’s or at least will soon be tearing a rift between Arwen through that

Or maybe him not feeling good enough for them since not only is Arthur the king but Gwen as his queen has ALSO risen in rank & is now „above“ him as well (tho I think this is a bit ooc for Merlin)

Or to try & keep Arthur away from him/not tempt himself (bc Merlin still has to hide his magic& therefore cannot get too close to anyone) Merlin pushes Gwen & Arthur together with effort & he thinks he’s left alone & that both of them will/can never know how much he loves them or know who he really is. Then Arwen ask why he wants them to be together SO BAD since the 2 don’t really ever want to spent time together without Merlin (bc they’re all in love your honor) & Merlin just explodes with a whole speech like because if you two don’t end up together all of the pain & the suffering I have gone through while having to watch from far away was worth for nothing & then Gwen thinks Merls were in love only with Arthur & Arthur thinks Merlin were only in love with Gwen & then they are all being stupid & sad abt that whole love triangle till it comes out that Merlin loves them BOTH at the end

While reading this fic the idea came to me that maybe Merlin takes the blame for Morgana’s love spell volunteeringly so that Arthur doesn’t get hurt by thinking Gwen cheated of her own free will & takes her back, but Gwen (the goddess that she is) straight up tells Arthur no, Merlin wouldn’t ever do that, it must’ve somehow been Morgana & they ask Merlin why he lied & his answer is I just wanted you two to be happy but then followed with I guess that I’m just selfish for wanting you two to love me as well, that would have been to good to be true anyways

Or Arthur seeing Gwen & Merlin hug like they used to do all the time in the show bc they’re best friends & always help each other through their hard stuff, so cue Arthur having his big bi panic & while still being a bit traumatised by the whole Lancelot’s shade-fiasco, he mistakes his romantic feelings for them as jealousy/insecurity/fear of Gwen leaving him for Merlin & saying smth like „you wouldn’t take her from me would you?“ to Merlin (maybe even just as a dumb joke without all those negative feelings) & Merlin being all surprised no ofc i wouldn’t do that, not to you Arthur, to neither of you, you mean too much to me to do that & being scared that he somehow crossed a line while talking to Gwen or smth to warrant this kind of question from Arthur

Or Merlin thinking: You already have to take care of Arthurs destiny (protecting him, be loyal to him, make him see magic is good without outing himself as a sorcerer etc.) you can’t also take his heart/feelings aswell. You can’t do that to Gwen.Arthur is already forced to spend forever with Merls due to destiny, let him choose Gwen on his own free will, so that means Merlin thinking his connection to Arthur is less important that Gwen’s connection to Arthur bc of destiny

Or Gwen & Arthur together trying to court him & invite him into their throuple so they kiss him on separate occasions without the other one present & Merlin is just alone walking with Gwen through the halls of Camelot & reeling with why did she just kiss me isn’t she in love with Arthur?? & Arthur then also kissing him or giving him gifts & he’s starting to catch on/hope that they might return his feelings but then he overhears Gwen telling Arthur that he (Arthur) is her everything (bc Arthur is emotionally constipated & needs reassurance & affection like he deserves), so Merls tries to gaslight himself à la oh those kisses where just friendly, friends kiss each other sometimes don’t they??? Gwen probably just missed me that 1 time/wanted to reassure me of something & Arthur was probably still high of of a particularly good fight during training OR he thinks maybe they were just playing a joke on him OR he assumes he’s just their mistress/playtoy now & therefore are his connections to them second to their marriage connection OR even angstier, he thinks they’re both cheating on each other with him & don’t know abt it & he fears they have problems in their relationship & is plagued by guilt bc he doesn’t know how to tell them that they’re kind of cheating with the same person (lol) & anytime he looks at them he asks himself how do I tell you that your wife is cheating on you with me, but I’m actually in love with the BOTH of you? Arthur surely won’t believe that for a second, he’ll just be rly angry

OR the 3 of them already being an item but like still in the beginnings & then the magic reveal happens & Arthur is just like you didn’t enchant us to fall in love with you right? (don’t worry, Arthur isn’t that bigoted, he’s just surprised that he feels so much love for not 1 BUT 2 whole wonderful ppl & starts to doubt bc he’s constipated like that) & Merlin says no, I wouldn’t do that, I don’t even know how to do a spell like that, but then comes the rocky acceptance-of-Merlin’s-magic-phase where everything including their budding relationship gets difficult & Merlin is doubting with thoughts like they don’t seem very in love with me anymore so maybe I DID put a love spell on them without knowing? Maybe I wanted them to love me so much so that my magic/I just enchanted them subconsciously??? Maybe all we had, all that THEY felt for me was a lie & I have been using them for my own personal gain?? And he’s just beating himself up over that in a puddle of guilt & heartbreak

had this really sickening thought abt a ruby x reader x aqua love triangle au (that i will probably never write)….. need to rant. under the cut

ruby has a massiveeee crush on you that you wholeheartedly reciprocate, but aqua doesn’t like you so he sabotages your confession……. ”you aren’t good enough for my little sister” <- he’s that type. overprotective big bro except he’s a dangerously unstable individual so he’s NOT playing around.

but then ruby ends up asking him to wingman for her… and he can’t exactly say no without a good reason, can he? so he talks to you. tries to get you to give up on her by saying you’d be putting her idol career at risk if you got together… makes you feel guilty and selfish in a very polite way lol. you try to distance yourself from her but she notices, of course she does, and she’s so upset about the whole thing that both you and aqua start feeling bad. probably ends with you hanging out together again, but now aqua is there too, making sure neither of you make any romantic progress 💀 eventually all three of you have grown close and that’s when aqua starts to waver a bit. at some point he probably thinks to himself that he can trust you to treat her well, and her happiness is more important to him than anything else!!!! (including her idol career….)

more important than his feelings, too — because before he knows it he’s looking forward to seeing you, smiling to himself when he sees you having fun with his sister. he’s starting to feel that protective itch when you’re around — even starts telling ruby to treat you well, be a good partner, that she needs to cherish you if the relationship works out, not just the other way around. he cares for you. he loves you, even, but he has zero issues throwing those feelings away. he doesn’t want to be with you, he wants you to be with ruby. you deserve each other.

so now aqua is supportive. helps you out, gives you advice, lures you both into increasingly more cliche scenarios. ruby is elated that he’s finally making himself useful, and you should be too, but for some reason you can’t help feeling dejected when he slinks away……… and you come to realize that you want them both near. you love her, and you love him, and you’re pretty sure they both feel the same way towards you. but you have to choose, that’s the thing. the sweet sister, or the cold brother?

only one of the choices leads to a good ending, but you don’t know that. hopefully, you never will.

okay this book was Interesting. i don’t really know how to feel abt it.

first of all, too much sex. maybe this is bcuz i hate reading smut or even slightly sexual scenes, but there was WAY too much unnecessary sex in this book. there are ways to show grim n isla’s bond(?) with eachother without using sex!!! sex ≠ love guys

+ the entire conflict of nightbane could have been avoided, or at least resolved much easier, had the characters just COMMUNICATED. i’ll elaborate more later.

also, i hate grim. i DESPISE him. fuck u grimshaw.

i feel like this book REALLY tries to get u to like grim, or at least not despise him. bcuz he’s Broken Boy!!!! he’s Misunderstood!!!! he’s Not Really A Villain, he’s Morally Grey!!!! and sure, some of these may be true. but in my humble opinion, grim is an irredeemable prick.

maybe i’m being too harsh. im gonna break down my thinking.

first of all, grim/isla and the general love triangle(?) between grim, isla, and oro sucked. i’m sorry, it was so bad. oro is OBVIOUSLY the better option. like, come on. he’s a MUCH better person. easily way better than grim.

another thing i DESPISED abt this book was the characters and relationships.

first of all, THE FUCKING AGE GAPS. ik, ik, WILD, 100s of years of age gaps r extremely common in fantasy books, and they always make me feel weird. but these ones seemed especially creepy, especially grim/isla

to put it simply, i HATE grim/isla. worst pairing in the entire series. its so unhealthy that reading them HURTS.

first of all, the imbalance of power is WILD bro. grim is SO MUCH MORE EXPERIENCED than isla at everything. bros been alive for 100s of years. ISLA IS LIKE 20. grim has seen wars, fought countless battles, seen countless deaths. isla, however, is 20ish and SHELTERED AF. girlie has barely even seen her own realm. before grim, i don’t think she’s fought anyone before, and certainly hasn’t killed. isla is young, she was naive. i have more thoughts but i think u get the idea.

oro/isla is WAY better once you get past the also horrendous age gap/power imbalance. bcuz oro cares SO MUCH. almost too much. you can tell how isla is everything to him. and sure, grim was the same way. but he doesn’t go about it the same way. oro is gentle, kind, and patient in a way grim was not. not only that, but he was morally a much better person than grim. wtf.

now, cleo’s character. cleo’s character had SO MUCH POTENTIAL. deadass i was ROOTING FOR HER at some points. but then she goes and joins the bad side(?) and she’s forgotten abt. she could have done/bee sm more, and she was, for a bit. but then it felt like the author just forgot abt her, and she was cast off. I LOVE CLEO.

finally, the main conflict. i wanted to slap the characters half the time. 99% of the conflict could have been solved through communication. this is bad on its own, but for a fantasy book this is HORRIBLE. honestly, i was confused af. i couldn’t even keep track of why the war was happening half the time. so, grim wanted to open the portal to the other world? i bet if he’d sat down with the rest of the rulers and talked he could’ve easily convinced them. and the whole “no isla im doing this for u bcuz i love u sm!” was POINTLESS. just SIT DOWN AND TALK IT OUT. these characters r killing me :(

i have so many more thoughts but i think this is way more than enough for one post.

ik these are all negative but the book wasn’t THAT bad. i actually enjoyed reading it for the most part. it just wasn’t anything even remotely phenomenal.

OMG so ive been thinking abt this ever since i saw ur ninjas from different time periods au but the way u incorporated the love triangle there (jay thinking they hate him for starting all of that) has driven me crazy ive been thinking about it for forever this guy gets so scared of them hating him and im like. Shakes u ur brain is so big i hope u know that idk where i was going with this i just that tidbit has wormed its way into my head ever since

yeah!!!! i just. okay so a) it’s already mostly textual given his entire arc in s4 but ALSO b) i have so many issues with how people hc jay to have anxiety and like. cool that’s how anxiety actually works?? misreading the situation and overreacting like jay does is both understandable and INCREDIBLY IN CHARACTER and as much as later seasons/fanon cram him into a very exaggerated portrayal of someone with anxiety this is where i relate to him the most. this is what being social anxious actually does: backfiring. overthinking situations that could be resolved easily if he didn’t take it so personally that it blows up BOTH his biggest relationships. the only difference from the stereotypical portrayal of an anxious person is that jay doesn’t shut down, he just keeps digging himself into a hole, which is a very real way that it manifests. i have done this. it is incredibly easy to do this. we are social machines built to interpret people and it is so so easy to misinterpret or overestimate or just plain fuck it up. jay is literally, textually insecure and the love triangle, as poorly executed as it is, took a sledgehammer to his sense of self and what he thought was a given: that nya liked him and cole was his best friend!!! this is STILL fucking him up when s3 ends - as annoying as the scene where he gets frustrated cole is the one comforting nya after zane’s sacrifice is, i do think it matters that it’s a raw wound. it’s something that stays and bothers him all the way through s4 bc they don’t get the chance to reconcile like they usually would. and that would REALLY suck bc he knows he shouldn’t care this much bc zane is dead. they’re all mourning. he shouldn’t still be so fixated on the drama but he is and he can’t help it. and zane’s dead. it’s just a compounding of the most stressful possible social drama with the most traumatic experience any of them have been through and anyway that’s why i am bullying jay ninjago and yoinking him from his coping via syndicated television phase. also the suit is funny

Jack’s explosion leading directly into the title card is a nice touch: it’s a fun forth wall break, intertwining Jack’s explosion in the fiction story into the real-world title card, and fitting in terms of how Jack goes onto become God and the fictional creator/shaper of SPN’s world.

Jack becoming God also fits with the standard superhero trope of the “reluctant hero.” In contrast to Billie, in contrast to Chuck, Jack doesn’t desire the power of godhood for himself, but takes it on to save the world. It shows up multiple times in the MCU and almost entirely uncritically in each case. (Of course “God” as a role isn’t something to get rid of; it’s about taking the “Bad Guy” in Chuck out of the role and putting the “Good Guy” in Jack in that role instead! Problem solved.)  I’m entirely disconnected from Marvel now so I hadn’t realized how much the end of this season drew on the MCU. Chuck even does a Thanos snap to kill the whole world at the end of the ep lmao.

In contrast to the last ep, Dean jumps to protect Jack when Billie tries to kidnap him, and so ends up the first one to maim Death (even if Cas technically takes her down in the end). Then again, it’s also Dean who chooses ‘wrong’ in going after Billie to kill her (wanting revenge / leaving family & friends) and unintentionally gets Cas killed, just as Billie is in the wrong to go after Dean in revenge and gets her desserts when Cas drags her to the Empty with him.

SAM Hey, I got a job for you. JACK Me? SAM Yeah. I need you to drive. JACK But I only drove once. SAM I've got work to do. You know, I gotta dig through the archives and work on finding spells. I can't do that with one eye on the road, so. SAM gestures for JACK to move over. JACK slides into the driver's seat. JACK Okay. Okay. I'll... Drive. JACK starts the engine, and they pull away from the gas-n-sip.

Sweet little scene between Sam & Jack. Of course Jack wants to feel like he’s doing something, so Sam gives him the rein in driving the car. Also some very obvious symbolism for Jack “taking the wheel.”

It’s confession time! And it’s... fine? It concludes an arc for Cas that was a long time coming--the writers were clearly aware of Bibro/Wincest vs. Destiel within fandom, and wrote the story to draw in both sides of the fandom, even if the bro bond is overall more emphasized--and Berens being gay himself gives the scene a certain legitimacy it wouldn’t have had otherwise. It’s fully within the show’s framework that “love” is the highest virtue, that caring about people means you’ll do good, which is a very bog standard idea (and one I disagree with, but that’s a tangent). Also repeating S15′s idea of sacrificing for what or who you love, and those sacrifices being worth the cost.

I don’t see Dean as being written, nor Jackles playing him, as reciprocating Cas’s feelings, altho I can understand why someone would want to read it that way. (There’s a funny meta abt how the show ends up being kind of like a YA love triangle between Sam > Dean < Cas, particularly in Dabb’s seasons.) Also recently watched a vid arguing the confession is queerbaiting, by putting it up alongside the latest season of Doctor Who (which in its penultimate ep had the Doctor and her companion Yasmin confess their feelings for each other, and then ignore that confession almost entirely in the finale and they go their separate ways) to talk about how sometimes, queerbaiting = queer representation = queerbaiting. I don’t agree with everything in how he frames Destiel before 15x18, but do think his discussion of 15x18 is fairly good.

Concerning that 3x10 reference... imo Berens doesn’t at all understand the nuances of that ep, esp the Dean - Dream!Dean scenes, so the call back rings unfortunately hollow. Because the way Berens frames “daddy’s blunt little instrument” neatly skips over Dean’s internalized anger at John for treating him like a soldier, even a tool, instead of a child, and how that particular dynamic warped his identity and sense of self.

It's not even really the LT that bothers me (even though it's stupid 🙄) it's the fact that, for me at least, the core of the show was the love story btwn Simon and Wille. With the new bf, it feels like the tone of the show has shifted away from that and has become about this new couple and abt S&W separately. I don't mind individual growth or character development, in fact I wanted that! I simply feel now that the essence of the show will be different and I don't like that. There was so much narratively to mine and work with w/o bringing in Marcus or creating a LT :/

I understand your concern. That being said, I think it’s a stretch to assume that the new season is going to be about the new couple. It will be a part of a larger story. Simon and Wille’s relationship was also a part of a larger story. Remember, they spent a lot of season 1 apart too… and we still got lots of scenes between them. I think Simon’s new relationship will form a part of his individual storyline, and also probably cross over into his other relationships, and not to jump to conclusions, but I don’t think it would ever be the focus of the whole season. We don’t know how big of a storyline it’ll be, but it certainly won’t be at the centre.

The thing with Simon and Wille, with where they ended up at season 1, they have a lot of growing up to do before they can even contemplate being in a relationship again. Wille seems to be coming at this from a very poor angle; instead of working on himself, he’s using all his anger and frustration to take down August. Simon also has a lot of growing up to do; he needs to learn how to prioritize himself and with Wille I think he has a hard time doing that, because he always just wants to help him and take care of him, and it got to the point where it just kept blowing up in his face.

It appears they’re both on journeys of self-discovery this season and I don’t think that was the wrong decision at all; I think it was the most interesting one. Also, call me delusional, but I believe them when they say it’s not a traditional love triangle. I don’t think this is a Markus vs Wille situation; this is Simon exploring himself and figuring out what he wants and learning how to put himself first. I think he thinks if he stays too close to Wille, he might lose himself in it again. Time and time again he was there for Wille and time and time again Wille let him down. It makes complete sense to me that he’d want to stay away from that when it caused him so much pain, no matter how much he understands Wille’s pain or predicament.

I’ve been seeing ur blog for a while and i love how you talk abt devi’s agency and how important it is which is why some of the reactions to devi going to ben at the end of s3 annoys me. i keep seeing “imagine ur first time being w ben when you had paxton and des” yeah, they’re pretty but this isn’t about trying to self insert into devi which unfortunately i feel is the case for most (not all) daxton shippers. it’s like they just want the steamy scenes because darren is hot and that’s it.

devi wasn’t ready to have sex w paxton or des. for pax it was because she thought it needed to happen so he could continue dating her. she bailed the moment it got too close multiple times. with des, she was overthinking it and preparing everything meticulously. so i actually really like the fact that devi going to bens and gives her that ridiculous free boink voucher and they don’t even have to say anything feels very inevitable. devi has a lot of agency making that choice and i love that she goes “yeah i want to have sex” and just goes there without any doubt. without overthinking her looks or if the mood is right. ben makes her feel comfortable and herself. so he makes sense as her first time. we don’t know if it happens i guess we’ll find out but the fact is she made the choice of involving ben in the new part of her evolving dream. i believe maitreyi said something similar about liking how team devi it is.

so here's the thing. i agree with the fundamental argument you're making - ben has always represented accountability-to-self in the triangle so it's very thematically rich that he be the love interest devi goes to for her first time - but i don't care for the way you talk about people who would have preferred a different ship outcome in order to make your point. makes this ask kind of a bummer to read, if i'm being honest, because i like paxton and i cared about the devi/des chapter of devi's development. like, read the room.

also, i don't even agree that devi was overthinking things with des. the whole point of them was that she was freed from her identity-related anxieties because he didn't know sherman oaks dork devi and she was totally ready to round one base or another with him by the end of 3.08. circumstance stopped them from getting it on, not any absence of readiness.

The pictures from season 1? As far as just having them not wind up together in the end? Because they're letting toxic fans influence them? Not that the pictures weren't a bad decision in the first place. They were, of course. But, it's fiction and there were so many other good qualities in Jancy's dynamic. Sorry to vent, but this wouldn't be an issue if they just accepted and were accountable to criticism. Not to mention also, writing Jonathan properly. Not sidelining him smh!

Yeah idk re: the s1 pictures influencing them (which were always bad and they never should have had him do in the first place even if it is also treated by the GA as Jonathan’s full character, and the only guy on the show who ever did anything wrong), but I don’t think that’s the determining factor, really. Like I think they just might want Nancy single or don’t know what to do with the love triangle. It’s just I’ve sorta wondered what the writers thought about that whole fake controversy over the “deleted” (not actually deleted) scene.

But separate point, by sidelining Jonathan sm and not treating his depression as something they cared abt, but treating it like a joke in a sideplot, I wonder if they agree with Jonathan’s opinion of himself articulated roughly in s4 that he just isn’t good enough. Like if they don’t care to write Jonathan, how do they write Jancy? Also imo they’ve treated jancy badly. At the same time, we still don’t know if the writers have figured out how to treat Nancy better and not as a prize to be won.

On friday, I finished Total Drama Island - Total Drama All Stars, so, I want to express my opinion about evey gen 1 character! ((Alejandro, Sierra, and Blainely will be included!))

Beth - Honestly, I didn’t care about her much on Island and Action, but I do respect her for standing up to Heather and calling Courtney out. Someone had to at the time and I’m happy that it was her

Bridgette - God..what CAN I say abt her?? Her obvious worst season was World Tour, she was one of my least favorites in that season, but apart from that, she was a pretty decent character in both island and action

Cody - I forgot he existed for the 3 seasons he’s in until the final 3 tbh- He was so forgettable to me, but I feel bad for him in world tour

Courtney - 3 words; I hated her. She’s my least favorite character. I did try to give her the benefit of the doubt by trying to find her "iconic" moments, however, it was just her being a bitch and threatening people not once, but TWICE to split the million or die. The absolute ONLY time where she seemed like a good person was island, and she was part of the problem in that HORRIBLE love triangle story, I just don’t see the appeal of her

DJ - Bro was a soft giant- he didn’t deserve any of the treatment he got, I at least wanted him to be eliminated fairly, but nah, in all the seasons he was featured in, he was eliminated so unfairly like cmon..

Duncan -Apart Duncan being a big ‘bad boy’ , he didn’t strike me that way- he’s more like an 2018 gacha bad boy that tries so hard to be cool, especially at all stars, it was cringe-

Katie & Sadie - I forgot they both existed since they technically only competed in one season, but I do think they could’ve been minor antagonists since they’re best friends and could’ve been manipulative together

Geoff - Easily one of my favorite boy characters in the entire show, he was a chill guy ((although very chaotic)) and was honestly robbed in island, I was rooting for him

Gwen - If there was overrated put into one character, it’s Gwen, she is decent, yea, but Island was her best season, and only that- Although, she was a close favorite to me in All Stars, she was caring, but did not have to be in that damn love triangle.

Justin - He was OK. Not good, but not that bad either, he had some funny lines but I do wish he used way more than his looks

LeShawna - I do understand why she has the love and fame that she does, she isn’t afraid to talk shit and throw hands while being compassionate and competitive, it was a really nice mix of personalities for her, even tho I don’t understand her sudden turn on Heather when it seemed like they were gonna be friends in action

Noah - I HATE how this man actually got some development in World Tour when he could’ve had more if he’d just play dodgeball in island.. it’s still so annoying to me. But, his humor was fucking great and i’ll forever make fun of him for his gay ass running LMFAO

Owen - I never really understood his humor, and I don’t think that he should’ve won island, it didn’t fit him in the long run, no matter how kind he was..plus the nudity on NATIONAL TELEVISION was disgusting, he didn’t made me laugh in the slightest

Eva - I wish she stayed longer in the merge, she seemed like a hard worker and she was growing on me a bit-

Harold - Half of the time, I didn’t know what he was saying, he was super confusing but he did have good tastes in crushes, even tho he did get turned down

Heather - I know I’m going to sound like a hypocrite with how my opinion was with Courtney, but Heather is my favorite character in the seasons she competed in, and at least she’s mean and doesn’t manage to make it annoying to listen to, I love how she didn’t play and automatically started making alliances and talked strategy. Her win was definitely the most deserved one out of the show, and probably the most well written out of the cast

Trent - His derailment was so sad to watch like..He obviously cared for Gwen, and was probably the most sane person in Island- ..I think that’s all I can say abt him

Lindsay - She was iconically stupid and smart, I loved her a lot, and she definitely deserved to win action, very robbed there

Tyler - I felt super bad for him, his fear being used after bring eliminated, to Lindsay forgetting about him after action..I’m just glad that he’s finally remembered by Lindsay ((and hopefully dating))

Ezekiel - I see why people don’t like him..That’s it.

Izzy ((I forgot to add her)) - The IT girl of the show along with Heather, I loved her, and even tho she always lost, she never failed to be entertaining on screen, 100% my favorite crazy girl

Alejandro - Definitely the right love interest for Heather, he’s manipulative, simpable, and caused many eliminations. He played the game, and I like him because of that

Sierra - Apart from Courtney, she is also my least favorite character. Why? She’s stalkerish, knows NO personal space apart from Cody going to the bathroom, and is just overall a bad character- It seemed like the only thing she was good for was carrying Cody throughout the entire season..

Blainely: We’ve met this girl for like 3 episodes so I can’t provide much on her, however, she had the most iconic elimination ever..and you’ve really gotta be hated if you have a whole ass song dissing you by the chillest guy ever-

So totally random, and okay if you don’t think of this character in this way, but do you think it’s at all a part of karkat’s character that he tends to like people more than they like him? Maybe this is just a like hobbled together reading of his character since I haven’t read all of homestuck, but it seems to be a thing in terms of the triangle between him and Dave and Terezi, But also it’s just post-scratch (and maybe a little before it) I feel like sollux’s primary relationships became feferi and Arcadia, and I don’t think their relationship gets really revisited. I know you mentioned before that like oh karkat is kinda obsessed with sollux, but like if they were to have drifted apart what do you think karkat and solluxs feelings towards each other would be in that scenario and do you think they blame themselves or other people from maybe getting the way of their relationship/friendship(?).

Also I think you’d like the song internet baby (interlude) by pinkpantheress it gives me vibes that it’s like about gamzee but idk if the pov character is like sollux or karkat or someone else.

but fr i mean (hopefully) you know this but i've only read hs act 5 so anything i'm saying about any character ever is me talking about what i remember of act 5, context ive picked up from fandom and the hsmtw podcast, and stuff i read in fanfiction. and as far as fanfiction goes i tend to read non-sgrub alternia aus pretty exclusively and that is like. the dynamic that i am primarily interested in. so yk take anything im saying abt any character in comic canon w a hymalayan salt lamp's worth of salt

anywayyyyy all that being said i actually kind of see it the other way around? in that karkat's self-loathing really gets in the way of him understanding the extent to which people care about him. i think he's somebody who gets so wrapped up in trying to justify other people's affection for him that it causes people to get fed up and move on waiting for him to decide if he thinks he deserves to be loved

i do not recall saying i think karkat is obsessed w sollux? altho totally possible i did lmfao. i agree canon doesn't leave much room for them to be together (and i dont think that was ever like. an intended reading of act 5 to be perfectly honest lol) and to me i see it as like i think it's very easy for them to drift apart given their deep-seated insecurities. karkat definitely always blames himself for everything even when its not deserved or productive tho and i think if sollux is angry he's fine to let that happen to avoid having a difficult conversation

like i know i say this all the time but for me it all comes back to that sollux is like. societally and narratively an object and so everything he does is steeped in resentment for the fact that it's completely irrelevant vs his utility as a straight up battery. and karkat is kind of in the opposite position where societally he is considered completely useless and marked for death so he feels this overwhelming urge to make himself useful in some sense to try and prove that he has any worth at all. and i think this opposing dichotomy is interesting in that it creates two people who have on the surface similar anxieties that manifest in functionally opposite directions and then on top of all that they r still besties and can't fully extricate themselves from each other even though they r continually talking past each other
