asmodeus headcanons

asmodeus surprisingly enough has scorpions in his room. as his symbol animal he’s particularly fond of them. his scorpions also have their own specialised skin (scale?) routines.

as the avatar of lust asmodeus goes through the entire scale of libido’s. just as he can have one of the highest libido’s he can also be completely asexual. this is not a known fact about asmodeus.

asmodeus can fix almost any problem on social media, including getting an image off social media after it’s gone viral. leviathan is the technology wiz with games and whatnot, mammon is great with technology in the background, and asmodeus is brilliant when it comes to social media problems and whatnot.

asmodeus knows all of his brothers skin types, hair types, styles, likes and dislikes when it comes to clothes and general hygiene care. whenever he makes a new line of something (clothes, skin products, hair products etc) he always makes sure there’s something that each of his brothers would love.

asmodeus has multiple alt accounts that no one but him knows about. his alt accounts all have a theme and none of them involve his face or name in the slightest. he uses these accounts to spread rumours and leaks about certain things. demon bullying his brothers? now there���s a rumour going around about that demon. asmodeus has a new skin care line? oh look! someone leaked it to the public and now everyone’s talking about it!

being the avatar of lust comes with some advantages, for example asmodeus has a vague idea of every sexual thing someone has done without even searching for it. chances are he knows if someone’s asexual before they do, and chances are he knows if someone wanted to actually have sex or not.

a draw back to being the avatar of lust is that almost everything asmodeus says is thought to have a double meaning. for example, asmodeus may say his throat is sore or hurts (maybe from sickness, maybe he’s just thirsty) and almost everyone who hears him say that will immediately laugh and make some joke about asmodeus’s knees hurting too.

a lot of what asmodeus does is considered to be incredibly superficial, but for the most part he’s always completely and unashamedly himself.

asmodeus uses his connections to get limited edition or rare items for his brothers. satan’s been upset recently? asmodeus conveniently found some rare cat themed item that he thought satan would like. lucifer’s stressed? asmodeus found a rare vinyl or some limited edition demonus that lucifer will find in his room or office at some point.

asmodeus mourned the loss of his angel wings more then anyone else did, not necessarily because of what they were, but because of what they’d represented to him. he eventually came to love his new demon wings, but occasionally he’ll find himself incapable of looking at them in any way shape or form.

when asmodeus finally started to get used to being a demon he decided to explore what the devildom had to offer, and that’s where he realised that tail, wing or horn care products were mostly only available to the nobility and higher in the devildom, so he made his own care products. he customised them and continues to perfect them everyday so that everyone can care for themselves.

asmodeus can tell when someone is feeling down or depressed before they can. he can tell when they struggle to get out of bed, or when they find it a chore to take a shower or look after himself, and whenever he gets that depressed feeling in the air, he’ll post a bunch of stuff like “good job on getting out of bed and getting something to drink”, “good job on putting on that cream or having a snack” etc.

when it comes to saying exactly what your thinking, asmodeus is the definition of it. asmodeus will make an offhanded comment about someone without even thinking that it may be rude, and it will take him a little while to realise he said something he shouldn’t’ve. 

when it comes to judging products or snooty and rude demons his lack of brain to mouth filter is brilliant, however when it comes to his friends or brothers his lack of filter can have some rather unsavoury results. especially because asmodeus can’t help but compare his brothers to who they used to be in the celestial realm, specifically mammon.

asmodeus used to look up to mammon a lot so whenever he see’s mammon act like the avatar of greed his brain always makes a comparison and asmodeus bluntly says what he’s thinking. whenever asmodeus realises what he said to mammon he’ll usually feel guilty, but instead of apologising he’ll sneak something mammon will like into mammon’s room as an apology.

is mostly perceptive to how his brothers are feeling. he’ll invite leviathan out to do something and he’ll always have an ear or eye on leviathan to make sure he isn’t overwhelmed. will invite satan out and will keep an ear or eye on satan to make sure no ones pissing him off, and if someone is then asmodeus will swoop in and convince whoever is causing satan to leave.

asmodeus isn’t very good at cooking, but he’s practised making all his brothers favourite foods so that he can surprise them when they’re having a bad day or so that whenever it’s his turn to cook dinner everyone will have something to enjoy.

also can we just appreciate how easily this man crumbled the second good food was put in front of him. after being kidnapped and abducted by some clearly suspicious demon lady he just. willingly stays, unbound physically in literally anyway, just because she has good food to offer. very very silly he is so funny

I love this little training scene sm because it paints tang in such an interesting light

whereas pigsy and mei are borderline ready to jump sandy for that star all we get from Tang is a shaky "I want that", this difference is further exemplified in the coloration differences (mei and pigsy's eyes being red whereas Tang's are just whited out)

this trend continues as the training session goes on! here for example we can see mei and pigsy clearly furious whereas tang is just crying- they're all frustrated! It seems as though when Tang is confronted with the issue of "not being as good as his peers" he trends more towards upset rather angry unlike the rest of his friend group

This can also be seen in their individual trainings

Mei is outright violent in her training arc, both in regards to the props and opponents she fights and (verbally) to master Subodhi, pigsy is also fairly mouthy and standoffish at first and disregards whatever he perceives as an insult, but Tang on the other hand we get to see crumble a little bit. Rather then brushing off master Subodhi's gripes with him like the others Tang seems to take it to heart, getting visibly more and more miserable until he's able to turn himself around

It's a nice bit of characterization that I'm glad to see appear again, they've given him such a consistent, well written weakness I can't wait how it affects his performance in future episodes, be it for better or for worse heeheehoo

I ADORE how much this man loves food, he's so super enthusiastic about it in literally every season it is completely adorable

I also appreciate how they didn't turn it into his entire character!! Most of the food-loving characters I've known have their entire personality based around food which, while it can be joyful at times, is kind of boring and 2 dimensional imo. I enjoy how they made him a complete fully fleshed out person like everyone else who just so happens to really like nomnoms heeheehoo

Often whenever he exclaims or screams he does so in a way that I don't know how to describe actually mmmmm instead of an "AAAAAH!" it's more akin to a "WHAhaHAA!" if that makes any sense, whatever that is it's such an interesting verbal quirk I love it very much.

He does something similar in quiet exclamations of awe, instead of going "ooooh.." it sounds more like "ooohohooh.."

I guess it's like his voice falls in between dragged out sounds? Like if it weren't for his tone and the context they'd almost sound like laughs, it's definitely an "h" sound, I'm not sure if there's a term for that verbal quirk but it seems fairly unique to him in the show and I thinks it adds to his sillyness heehee

Circling back to the scorpion outfit, remember in the pilot episode how mk attempts to crawl away from the demon bull family after he gets caught? Tang does the exact same thing here!! same motion same thoughts process, like father like son

delving into slightly more serious tang thingies for a second!!-

this scene always felt incomplete to me, I feel like I'm missing something. This was when they first as a group run into lbd on their airship. Out of the entire group Tang is the only one to notice something's off and emphasis is put on this multiple times. First with "I've got a bad feeling about this pigsy", then with scene above where he's shown staring skeptically at lbd's rings, and then with him noticing the broken device on the ground(and notably not cheering on mk like everyone else) and confronting mk about it. Was ALL of that really just so Tang could make mk tell them about lbd(which he didn't even really do)? Why tang, why was he the only one to intuitively notice? even mk didn't know something was wrong with lbd when he first encountered her in her hostess form, heck even monkie king didn't, how did tang? Triptaka/golden cicada powers? Are we going to be seeing him do this again? Does it mean anything for where his story is going?? I don't know it just, it feels like too much focus was put on this just for it to be for nothing, it's odd to me.

One more thing!!

what was this.

from the second episode we see macaque where he puts on a shadow play and possesses tang, pigsy, and mei n' forces them to fight mk. Never in the entire rest of the series have we ever seen someone who's possessed struggle/ appear to still be there whilst being under possession. Not with the people-turned-spider-demons not with bai he not with mei or pigsy in this scene, not even really with wukong in the special. It is arguable through his expressions that he may be somewhat still there and might be putting up a fight(especially when he's about to hit mk) but we never really seem him underneath. We never hear him and we never see his true reaction underneath the poker-faced-possessed version, never like we do with tang here. Once again, just, wjajnajj, why?? This is such an odd little detail and it's so weird how it never comes back again. If it's not foreshadowing or leading up to a bigger reveal then why animate it? Because it looked interesting? Because they could? Was it a way to express to the audience that his friends were still there under the surface and they weren't just clones? But the lights in the lantern along with them getting sucked in already made that pretty clear. If that was the case anyway, why didn't they do that with wukong? or with bai he? or with the spider demons? we had no way of knowing for sure that they were there or they'd come back after being un-possessed either. It's such a small little thing that could mean nothing but it's been stuck in the back of my mind since I first saw it back when I first picked up the show in like august. I don't know, it's cool though!! I hope they do smth more with it

This is going to be fun, I said. Surely they won't break my heart, I said. I was wrong.

As usual, spoiler-free above the cut, spoilers below.

At a lovely 24-episode run, My Journey to You is a wuxia drama with a rich plot, beautiful costuming and scenery, and downright stunning fight scenes. It is the story Yun Wei Shan, an assassin completing one last assignment in hopes of gaining her freedom. She infiltrates the Gong residence and experiences love and friendship, which leads to self-discovery alongside Gong Zi Yu, who is fighting for the respect of his family hidden in the mountains. The plot has many twists and turns, with many people working in secret for their own goals and forming alliances. No one has the full story until the end, not even you as the viewer. I truly enjoyed yelling at the screen and retracting my insults to certain characters.

The cinematography was beautiful for every shot. From the wide shots of the beautiful mountain to slowed shots in fights, everything was clear, lovely, and purposeful. I sometimes skip wuxia fight scenes if they feel repetitive or boring in their choreography. I did not skip a single fight here. The details were so intricate and crisp! The moves played off each other like a dance- this wasn't just wild slashing at each other and random leaps into the air- every move felt like the characters spent years learning their art.

So why does it get 9 broken hearts? This one made me cry at the end.

Spoiler Review:

The romance between Yun Wei Shan and Gong Zi Yu took me by surprise not because I did not expect romance, but because I did not expect it to develop in a realistic way. Yun Wei Shan is not used to allowing other to see her feelings, and has grown to expect her trust to be betrayed. It only makes sense that, even after she allows herself to fall in love, she won't admit to it.

Gong Zi Yu on the other hand was bound to fall in love at first sight, and the maturing of the character does not take that aspect away from him. He is steadfast in his love and loyalty to her, even if it makes him work 5x harder to protect his family.

This is ALSO WHY IT BROKE MY HEART. I was fully expecting her to fake the love in the beginning, guarding my heart as she did her own. Her cold distance established a boundary that protect bother her heart and my expectations as a viewer. Little did I know goofy little Gong Zi Yu is incapable of loving quietly or in half measures; he bulldozed through her boundaries and won my affection. Little did I know the show would let me think in the FINAL EPISODE THAT THEY WOULD BE HAPPY only to snatch that happiness away! Don't get me wrong, it is very realistic. Of course she would get got by the assassin network she just took down. But for him to never know? For him to think she left him? That kills me.

Ok ok ok. Let's talk about Shangguan Qian: I hate her. I really do. She made me so anxious and so angry with every move she made. The actress is amazing- every time she smiled, she gave me a sick feeling of dread. The character? Awful, in a good way. She was written so well- as time went on they showed us how someone becomes as self serving as she is. Do I think she loved Gong Shang Jue? Yes, but it didn't matter. At every turn, she will make the decision that best serves her. So I think she's a lying lie face. I think she lied about the baby. I think she lied. I feel so bad for Gong Shang Jue, as she really pried open his heart with a crowbar and crawled in only to trash the place before she left. Funny enough, I think she did him some good. That heart is still open a crack.

While we are talking about Gong Shang Jue, let's also talk about his baby brother. I call him and Gong Yuan Zhi the Scorpion Brothers, with Gong Yuan Zhi affectionately titled the Scorpion Baby. I love my little Scorpion Baby and his little poisons and his deep loyalty to his brother. It's all so cute. Has he killed people? Yes, but it made him happy so we're going to ignore that. Has he tortured people? Again, stop asking questions. My Scorpion baby has never done anything wrong ever. Ever. As for his brother, Shang Jue was such a compelling character. The show first pitches him to us as a noble villain- after all, if we didn't know there were spies in the Gong residence, he would be the one we suspect for every slight, just like Gong Zi Yu does. But just as he painted as a villain, the show gives us glimmers of him as a loving person. He protects Scorpion Baby and holds his undying loyalty. He reprimands a servant for going into politics when his father's death is announced. He acts decisively, not cruelly, and as we learn that he lost a baby brother and his mother, it makes sense why he so fiercely protects the family despite how uncomfortable it might make others. Ugh, I love him. I wanted the best for him. And Shangguan Qian just...left him loving her.

The plot of Wufeng attempting to take down the last holdout against their power while the sons of the Gong family are fighting for power (while not realizing they are fighting for the same thing: keeping their family safe), and a MEMBER OF THE FAMILY working against everyone to go scorched earth to avenge his parents? Wow. Every twist and turn was well done, and it played well on the needs and motivations of each character, so it didn't feel forced. The puzzle pieces all fit in the end.

Would I recommend this drama? Yes, if you can take the pain.

* Scorpion Demoness LOVES to listen Tang’s stories, both of old legends and of his adventures. He may or may not make himself sound more heroic than he actually was, and she may or may not know that he is. She lets him do it anyways; he’s having fun, so why ruin it for him?

* (THIS IS WHAT I MADE BEFORE THE WHOLE SEASON 4 BEING RELEASED FIASCO HAPPENED SO UHH. SORRY FOR THE EXTRA DELAY??? ANYWAYS CONTINUING ON!)

* I think she’s also a bit of a foodie herself, so they really bond over good food. And therefore a lot of their hang outs either end or start at Pigsy’s! (She sometimes feels like the third wheel when it’s her and Tang that are meant to be hanging out bc of him and Pigsy bicker-flirting; she gets back at him tho by gushing over Spider Queen)

* I think she’s super strong. Like so strong she doesn’t even realize her own strength. They pass by the arcade Mei and MK like to play in and decide to try a couple games, one being a test of strength type game. She breaks it the second she touches it. They immediately run away from the crime scene

* Bc I am incapable of not including my ships in some way: Double dates! The first one is always as hell bc. Well. Spider Queen not only flirted with Pigsy (and Tang but that did Not work), but also kinda maybe planned on eating them? Haha, it’s okay she’s past that now! Doesn’t mean she won’t tease them a bit and mumble something like “This would taste better with some mortal blood mixed in” as she sips on her drink, side eyeing the scholar and pig man. Meanwhile Scorpion Demoness is just clung to her arm and when she asks “What was that, sweetie?” (Unaware), SQ just smiles sweetly and says “Nothing~!”

* Tang: Really? Spider Queen? Sure she’s pretty (from an aesthetic point not romantic of course), but she’s evil!No offense but you can do better! SD: … A Pigman- Tang: HES AN AMAZING COOK AND A KIND MAN!!! HE IS ALSO A LOVING (while strict!) FATHER!!! HE’S A DILF SCORPS-! SD: Augh, no, Tangy!! Don’t call him that! Tang: A /DILF/!!!!!!!!

* Now this kind of doesn’t work with most of my headcanons but the scenario is in my head now so: They wingman for each other but by trying to make their respective crushes jealous; SD gushes about Tang like she’s interested in him around/to Pigsy and vice versa. This backfires in the sense that they do get jealous but now SD is banned from Pigsy’s and Tang almost gets eaten again

* They have a book club that’s just the two of them at first but she convives Tang to let Yin, Jin, the purple demon lady (idk what we call her), and the… Little guy… forgot what he’s called, join them! It is the most chaotic and rowdy book club there has ever been

* SD always wanted to have a cliche sleepover and Tang is more than happy to indulge her. They paint each others nails (neither are very good at it; SD is a margin better tho and gets better over time. Tang does not), do face masks and play games like MASH. SD maybe suggests doing a spooky activity like chanting Bloody Mary 3 times in the bathroom. Tang maybe has a heart attack when supernatural stuff actually starts happening. They maybe have to call MK and Mei to save them from said supernatural stuff. They talk about their crushes, oooh~

Bad Night - First wenclair fic, and I have a very distinct memory of the moment when my brain broke a little as I realized oh. I think I just got into Wednesday Addam's head. Oh. That's not great.

Leviathan - barely a fic, but I'm proud of how much I did with so little. It was written as a byproduct of the aforementioned moment when writing Bad night. I feel like I didn't so much write it as vomit it.

The Nine Ghosts of Felicia Hardy - My first silkcat fic is perhaps a bit messy because it's written as a divergence from a specific comic book issue, but this one was where I really started getting into how I would write the characters interacting.

Zugzwang - my favorite of my Silkcat fics, where I think I found my favorite things to do with them.

The Scorpion's Nature - here to rep my darker fics. Writing this was a bit of a nightmare and I didn't think it was going to get done, but it ended up happening and I'm happy about that.

Honorable mention to Because, because I wish I could write a million Tanthamore novels, but I just don't have it in me. This is all I could give them, and I kinda hate that, because it's barely a fic.

As for fics written by others:

This is a bit awkward, but I don't read THAT many fics, and the more I write for a pairing, the less I read for them, because I'm already getting my fix from my own brain.

In Due Time, a Holstein fic by lizardwriter - this is a bit of a weird one, but it's here because I used to be incapable of reading second-person fics, and then I read this and it was like a switch flipped because this fic really HAD to be written in second person. This led me to write some interesting stuff in second person (one is not a fic, another one is a korrasami fic and let's leave it at that).

Hello sorry to bother you with this all of sudden ,and this might be coming out of nowhere, and I’m not trying to force you or be pushy but I m trying to get more people into this show with great potential. If your not interested it’s fine but Have you heard of or watched moon girl and devil dinosaur? Season 2 premier happened

The main character i love she gives me autistic vibes I’m autistic. The show has interesting characters, action ,great music, and animation ,good themes and representation, Anime references, plenty of Sailor Moon references too it even has an eyecatch season 2 is going to be more story driven if you find that interesting. It also shares the same animation studio as rise of the teenage mutant ninja turtles.

It be good if you watch the season 2 episodes when they air so the ratings will be higher. 

I think Disney might be trying to sabotage the show with them probably dropping 14 episodes on Disney + on February 3 which has passed. We have a week to binge it.They did similar with season 1 and the ratings where low ,please watch season 2 episodes when they air on. But more importantly also watch it on Disney + in feb and when they air it on YouTube. Unfortunately they are dropping 14 episodes on Disney + so watch them all in one day but also when they air the first time.

Oh so I'm not the only one who noticed the 14 episode drop and heard the bells of grief ringing ominously in the background. I enjoyed beyonder antics, and them getting beaten up by those they wronged. I enjoyed seeing the beyonder learn how to tiptoe to victory. Devil girl would probably have been more than happy to help moon girl under different circumstances. Molecule Man is a bastard for attempting to murder a (I think she's like thirteen) child. Bruh that kid got dragged here by the huy you don't like, why are you trying to murk her? She just wants to go home, man.

He gave Lunella PTSD from that bs he pulled. Episode 2 deals with that. We see OMG's girl crew from her university days: the hot tomatoes. I hate the fungal covered books, thise poor books. Reminds me of the last arc of Clinic of Horrors. Brr.

Anyway, they make several versions of new moon girl suits. Each version becoming the vibranium equivalent of moon girl wearing a bunch of poofy layers to look like one of those marshmallow tots that are stuck in the "A" pose. Mimi asks the mini moon girl if she is okay, Lunella lies. Mimi then tells her granddaughter that she should not underestimate herself, and that her brain is her strongest weapon. Then a scorpion gets supersized into the size of a bus. Oh, I'm interested in the Fae story idea!

heehoo so this one isn’t actually a story yet so I can’t share any snippets, so you get a colossal infodump instead 😈

As with many of my best and most outlandish ideas, this one started from a dream I had where I was a little fairy-like creature and I was part of a team , and we were setting out on some journey to, I dunno, protect our home or whatever. But what my brain really focused on was the anatomy, reproduction and social structure of these fairy creatures.

In the universe of this dream/story, fairies stand at between 2 and 5 inches tall. They’re insectoid in origin but have the intelligence and physical posture of humans. They have two legs and two or four arms, and usually two or four wings. They almost always have chitinous exoskeletons with jointed limbs, just like other insect species. Many also have an insect thorax where a human’s butt would be. They vary immensely in appearance, the reasons for which I’ll get into a bit later!

Fairies live in hives/colonies in hollow spaces such as caves, ancient trees, or even attics in abandoned buildings. Each hive has a queen, who produces fairy larvae - these are all identical, sexless (though gender exists as a personal choice), and incapable of flight until they mature at an as-yet-undetermined age.

Fairies are omnivorous, subsisting on a varied diet including berries, nuts, other insects, and occasionally small birds and mammals. Hunting is an important part of a fairy’s life and plays a key role in coming-of-age rituals.

Now the key part of this: when a fairy comes of age, they set off on their first hunt (along with several older and more experienced fairies as back-up, who will only step in if absolutely necessary). They stay in the wild until they hunt and kill a creature, and then bring it back to the hive. Most will go for a harmless insect but some particularly bold fairies will target wasps, spiders, scorpions, or even in incredibly rare cases birds. Back in the hive, instead of taking their kill to the communal meal stash, they sequester it and themselves away somewhere safe and spin a cocoon encasing them and their prey. An as-yet-undetermined time later they’ll emerge from the cocoon as a fully formed fairy, taking on the features of whatever their prey was (absorbed in the cocoon as a source of energy) so that they resemble a humanoid version of it. For this reason, hive members are incredibly varied in appearance and abilities, and each will find a suitable role within the hive depending on their adult features.

Now the actual story I have planned: the main character is a fairy larva on the cusp of adulthood who sets off on her first hunt. She’s a runt and everyone underestimates her, they’re genuinely hoping for and expecting her to just die in the forest somewhere, but she ends up killing a bird (haven’t decided which type) which is a HUGE fuckin deal for her tiny hive, literally has never happened before, and then like right before she emerges from her cocoon the hive is attacked, and decimated. She hatches out to find everyone she loves dead or missing, and has to set off on a journey with a handful of other survivors to find their missing hive mates and exact revenge. There’s one giant beetle guy who’s a royal guard of some sort (he doesn’t talk much), a sketchy dragonfly dude (I think), and one other fairy who I have no clear visual of yet.

TL;DR: people who put phobia causing images in the thumbnails of videos without warning that aren’t specifically educational videos are assholes, and they should fuck off. this goes for any phobia: trypophobia, arachnophobia, etc. i’m fine with nature channels doing this, since. i know what i’m getting when i subscribe to one. but for non nature channels it’s a bitch move.

as a severe arachnophobe: content creators who put spiders as the focus in the thumbnails of their videos can go fuck themselves /gen. like. they don’t have to be in the FUCKING THUMBNAIL unless you are a channel that does that shit regularly. i don’t want to be on my phone, checking my youtube dashboard, and get hit with a close up of a black recluse!! i understand 100% if you’re a nature channel and that is your job, but if it isn’t then like. idk don’t fucking do that??? i’ve gotten into the habit of avoiding videos about bugs because the odds of there being a picture of a spider somewhere in there without warning is really high! when someone says “tw: bugs” i think BUGS, not spiders or scorpions!! fuck you if you call spiders bugs in the first place: THEYRE NOT. spiders aren’t bugs, they’re arachnids! there’s a distinction. and if you’re arachnophobic, there’s a huge difference between being afraid of spiders and being afraid of other insects!! i fucking love insects but i can’t look them up without having to worry if i’m going to have a breakdown because of images of spiders being mixed in! putting a spider in the thumbnail is rude as hell, especially if you don’t usually make videos that cover spiders/bugs—your audience has no warning! and not putting an arachnophobia warning in the video or description is also bad! sifting through comments to see if there’s any mentions of spiders is NOT easy either: it’s so EASY to miss any mentions that if i’m worried that i’ll be hit with a picture of a spider then i’ll not watch the video—even when the stuff genuinely interests me! and that doesn’t even get me started on videos that drop images of spiders with no prompting! i’m trying to watch a TED talk about that astronaut that went blind in space, and he drops a picture of a brown recluse with no prompting or warning!!

spiders genuinely make me feel icky when i see them: we get them on the door in the summer, and i will genuinely wait for someone else to come and open the door rather than get anywhere near a spider. i don’t like being in the same fucking room as them! there’s a reason i have them blacklisted and why i’ll ask someone else to look something up if im worried that there might be spiders in the results! scorpions don’t bother me—i think they’re badass—it is literally just spiders.

i’m. very opinionated about this. as someone with a genuine fear which makes me incapable of enjoying things, fuck people who put pictures of spiders in the thumbnails of their videos and don’t properly warn about it. those people are fucking assholes.

i’ll say this again: nature channels which focus specifically on nature and informational videos about that are different! you EXPECT that to come from them, since that’s they’re job!! i wouldn’t get mad at casual geographic for putting spiders in a video that he dedicated to bugs: if i watch that, i sign up for it. that’s on me. or if i watch a yt short about why you shouldn’t eat bananas with white spots on the peel (it could be a sign of mold or spider infestation, neither of which you want to eat) then i signed up for it!! if i watch a kurzgesagt video about the ant kingdom and warrior ants that will beat the shit out of everything (including tarantulas) then i expect that i might get hit with an animated spider!! in those cases, my panic response is under control, because i ANTICIPATED that i would be dealing with it! but if daily dose of internet puts spiders in the thumbnail without warning, then what the fuck. i don’t expect that! it triggers my panic response near instantly (which is to instinctually throw the thing with the spider on it away and to curl up into a ball) and i become WAY too self conscious!! i literally go into a fight or flight response with spiders—it’s flight. nature channels: i expect! non nature channels: i do not expect and it freaks me out. there’s a difference between me watching videos with bugs in them and being aware of the risk vs me watching a gaming video and being shown a spider.

i know people genuinely don’t mean harm when they do this, but it’s not THAT hard to not have spiders in the thumbnail. it’s not that hard to put a “cw: spiders” or “tw: arachnophobia” at the beginning of your video OR in the description! if you can warn about blood or death, then you can warn about spiders, as it’s one of the most common phobias!
