Some characters of mine and my sisters’ ... and Kei Okazaki from Collar X Malice.
This is the style I want to use for my detective game (thus the detective game characters) but I want to really get to grips with it before I start planning out proper art for the game.
I set up a page on my Ko-Fi for cheapo commissions of this style: You get art, I get practice. Perfectly balanced as all things should be! https://ko-fi.com/gemstar
I also set up a poll on my Twitter for what kind of things I should talk about first: https://twitter.com/card_queen/status/1660101272379224064
I intend to talk much about characters, story and world-building, especially for fantasy worlds but I’d like to hear what you want to hear me talk about first!

love love LOVE your mary & Delilah fics! was wondering if you could do one where little delilah is brought to a match and she sees mary interacting with young fans who are about her age and gets a little jealous and clingy because that’s HER MAMA
part of the a date to remember universe
my mama II m.earps x reader
"okay which one lilah? purple, black or green?" you questioned, holding up the choices and doing a little dance making your daughter giggle. "i wanna dress myself today please." she informed crossing her arms over her chest with a determined nod.
"okay baby. but its cold, so dress warm!" you chuckled, hanging the jumpers back up and moving to sit down. "no mummy, by myself!" she pointed to the door and hurried over, pushing at your legs.
"okay okay! god i thought i'd get a few more years before i got kicked out of your room, this hurts lilah." you gasped dramatically as she shoved you from her room, only met with a door slammed in your face.
"was that-" you turned around and nodded to your wife. "she wants to dress herself today." you informed with a chuckle, moving into your wifes waiting arms which wrapped around you.
"we've told her she isn't allowed to grow up right?" "nearly every day since was born my love, she just does not want to listen."
~
"delilah grace earps are you done now?" you called out with a sigh, leaning against the wall by her door which you'd tried to open several times only met with a yell and it pushed closed again, your daughter firmly stating she wasn't ready and you weren't allowed to see until she was.
mary had already been picked up as to not be late for warm ups and you shook your head as you checked the time again already knowing the two of you would be stuck in traffic and miss kick off if you didn't leave soon.
"okay lilah we have to go, i'm coming in." you warned, though before you could even grab the handle the door it flew open and a bundle of colour and blonde hair came tumbling out.
"do you like it!" your daughter beamed, bouncing happily as you bit your bottom lip taking in her choice of outfit.
she had on a pair of black and white light up custom trainers alessia had gotten her for her birthday, pale yellow nike joggers with a pair of green man united kit shorts over the top. on her top half she on a bright purple hoodie with an orange lionesses jersey that was far too big for her with toone on the back and a bright red man united beanie on her head, with its matching scarf tied around her hips like a makeshift belt.
"well...i'm not going to lose you in the crowd, thats for certain." you smiled, knowing no matter what you said or tried there wasn't a chance you'd be getting your daughter changed without a fight and missing the game.
"you don't wanna wear mama's jersey lilah?" you tried, knowing your wife would kick off and ella would be absolutely insufferable in your daughters current choice. "nope! aunty el was sad last time i saw her so i thought this would make her happy, cause you and mama always say orange is a happy colour!" she grinned and your heart melted.
the last time she had seen her favourite aunt and godmother was after a particularly rowdy team night out where both had wound up crashing the night at your place, mary their designated driver and apparently a key influence in just how many shots they'd downed which you'd told her off for afterwards.
the two had wound up crying crocodile tears as mary and you both disallowed them to see delilah, trying to remind it was hours after her bedtime and the two of them were very drunk. which had in turn woken your daughter who'd come to investigate, not understanding why she wasn't allowed to say hello to either of her favourite people.
mary had practically needed to sit on top of both your adopted daughters to stop them racing after you, reminding them over and over that your four year old didn't need to see them in their current intoxicated state and they could see her in the morning.
"we do say that don't we." you agreed with her words, shaking your head in amusement but giving in, not wanting to squash the independence you and mary were trying to instill in her.
"at least you listened about the cold and did lots of layers babe, now time to go!"
~
you sent polite smiles to the strange looks you received walking your daughter through old trafford, meeting up with marys mum and wordlessly shaking your head at her questioning stare as she scooped up her granddaughter and the three of you made your way to your seats.
normally marys siblings and father would be in attendance but all had fallen ill with a stomach bug so you laughed at the way your mother in law was so relieved to be surrounded by 'healthy non whinging human beings'.
"do you like my outfit nanna?" your daughter chirped for the third time in the hour as you waved to your wife who was very clearly looking around stressed that she'd not spotted you, sighing in relief once she had.
"don't ask!" you mouthed to her perplexed look toward your daughter stood up in your lap furiously waving her and her team mates down. "els!" you cupped your hands over your mouth to gain the midfielders attention as she began to walk off the pitch after warm ups.
maya heard you and grinned before tapping ellas shoulder and gesturing toward you as you spun delilah around to show her last name plastered on your daughters back as her face lit up and you laughed as she raced right over to jump on your wifes back and no doubt lay into her about it.
now delilah was older she'd become a different sort of handful to take to marys games. gone were the earmuffs, dummy and baby blanket she'd needed to settle previously, where she'd often sleep the whole way through happily budled up in someones arms.
nowadays as your mothers both liked to remind you two she was just like you and mary had been as kids, a little unstoppable bundle of energy who often required distraction or bribery of some sort to sit still for prolonged periods of time.
which is how you found yourself racing off midway through the first half to sort out some food, having left in such a rush you'd completely forgotten the bag of snacks and toys you normally carted along with you whenever you left the house with delilah in tow.
thankfully with her grandma more than happy to listen to her chatter and answer her millions of questions you made it through the entire match without a single issue.
the problems started when the game finished and julie had needed to rush off to get back to the family, catching mary quickly before ducking off and leaving you and delilah to patiently wait your turn.
it would seem patience today though was not on delilahs agenda.
"i wanna see mama now!" the girl whined, wriggling furiously to try and yank her hand out of your grip as you sighed and took a deep breath. "mama's just saying hi to some people first baby, thats part of her work!" you tried to explain, even offering her an ice cream as a last minute ditch to distract her but it was to no use.
not even alessia could capture her attention for more than a few minutes as your daughter grew more and more fussy and inpatient the more time passed.
"go! it'll be fine." you forced a smile toward your wifes team mates who'd all taken turns trying to distract delilah as the two of you stood in the tunnel, mary signing autographs and taking photos with a larger crowd than normal.
"wanna go kick a ball tiny?" millie offered in a last ditch effort and that seemed to work as your daughter nodded eagerly and latched onto the taller girls leg, her giggles echoing around as millie zoomed off back onto the pitch.
you kept her in sight as you followed after them, hanging on the sidelines and waving to a few fans who called out your name, mary glancing over apologetically as you sent her a smile and a nod assuring it was fine.
but that tiny lapse in attention was all it took for delilah to break away from millie, maya and ella, sprinting off toward mary who had her back turned and ignoring the older girls calls after her which gained your focus back toward them.
intercepting her you scooped delilah up into your arms and sat her on your hip. "no! i wanna see mama!” you winced as she smacked your chest a few times and pushed away ella who'd appeared to try and help, and you could tell from the wobble of her bottom lip that she was a few moments away from a meltdown.
"hey lilah, look at me please." you dropped to your knees and stood her on her feet, your hands on her shoulders stopping her from running off. "we don't hit people, okay? i know you're having some really big feelings and you miss mama but-" you started, yelping as your daughter suddenly scratched at your hand, racing away toward mary.
"delilah grace!" you called after her, mary looking up a second too late as her daughter barreled into her. "my mama! mine!" she snarled at a young girl who mary was trying to take a picture with as the keeper quickly picked her up and apologised to the fan and her dad right as delilah started to scream.
apologizing to the crowd still awaiting her attention mary hurried back toward you, the two of you falling into step as you made your way into the tunnel and down the hall toward the change rooms. "lilah baby-" you started as her screams turned into sobs and she buried her face in marys neck.
"no, get off!" the girl snapped again scratching your hand as you inhaled sharply and paused, catching your wifes eye who nodded in understanding as you stayed outside and she dissapeared into the change rooms to try and calm your daughter down.
"hey, you alright?" you glanced up to meet concerned blue eyes and nodded, exhaling deeply as the taller girl pulled you into a hug. "thanks less." you mumbled as she rubbed your back, assuring over and over that you were the best mum ever.
promising her you were okay but that you'd need a raincheck on dinner plans you all had tonight both her and ella gave you another long hug and headed off to see their families.
with another deep breath you headed into the change rooms, only a few of the girls remaining as you spotted mary by her cubby. you caught her eye again and raised an eyebrow as she nodded, your daughter still tightly wrapped around her.
"lilah what do we need to say to mummy please?" mary started quietly, bouncing her knee up and down gently to gain your daughters attention as she pulled her head out of marys neck.
"im very sorry for scratching and yelling mummy." the girl apologised softly, climbing off marys lap and moving into yours, warmth flooding your body as she hugged you tightly and you kissed the top of her head.
you melted even further as your daughter grabbed your hand, carefully kissing over where she'd scratched you before clambering right back into marys lap.
"i'll shower at home, or else little miss is gonna wind up soaked." mary chuckled, gesturing to the way your daughter clung onto her like a monkey, refusing to loosen her grip as you took your wifes bag for her and the three of you waved goodbye to the few girls left and headed for the carpark.
"mama in the back with me!" delilah ordered with a frown once you reached the car, mary having gained a lift with alessia this morning meaning she at least didn't need to drive herself back.
"okay baby, just this once." mary gave in clearly picking up that delilah was being abnormally clingy after seeing her interacting with other kids, something the two of you would need to speak with her about another time.
and for the rest of that night it was the same story, your daughter refusing not to have some part of her in contact with mary at all times. so much so that she'd stayed in the bathroom while your wife showered, insisting you sit with her as well as she held marys hand through the shower door making you smile in amusement.
"my mama." was all that seemed to be repeated, the possessiveness also something new but a conversation for another day as mary waved off your concerns, too thrilled with having your daughters full focus and attention all night.
"oh for god sakes." you'd chuckled later that night at the sight before you. your wife having spent an abnormal amount of time putting delilah to bed you'd wandered up to check in, only to find her dead asleep in the tiny single bed belonging to your daughter, long limbs hanging off the sides with delilah curled into her still very much so awake.
"sh! mama is very tired mummy." delilah warned as you entered the room. "you should be asleep little miss, not mama!" you reminded quietly as she gave you a cheeky smile looking far too much like her other mother and held up the book which was previously laid open on marys chest.
"one more story, please?"

This Death That I Chose: Chapter 9
1233 words
CW: death, child death (not explicitly described), guns, recapture, noncon kiss, pet whump

~~~
Tao remembered thinking that it must have been fireworks. That there was no way the Commander’s Military had advanced so far overnight.
They had.
He’d stared out the window at the tanks rolling down the street while his brother and his wife rounded up their kids. Lilah and Rory. They were too young to understand what was happening, only that they were scared.
They got everyone in the car. They had the flashlights, the batteries, the canned food.
But Rory forgot his stuffed monkey. And Tao went back to get it.
An explosion rocked the house a second after he picked the toy up. When he got back outside, the car was in flames.
~~~
Tao knew it wasn’t fireworks this time.
Lark squirmed, and Tao’s grip on him tightened like a vice.
“I have to go-” Lark gasped.
“No,” Tao’s throat constricted, “No, I won’t let you.”
“Tao, please.”
“Everyone here knows what to do. We have escape plans.” He loosened his grip on Lark just enough for the two of them to be able to stand, then pulled him back close. “There are cars parked in the woods, we just go to the nearest one, okay?”
Lark lifted his tear-streaked face and hesitantly nodded.
“Okay.”
“Good, let’s get this on you properly.” He released Lark and took a step back, taking hold of the shirt draped around the young man’s shoulders. Lark obediently put his arms into the sleeves, and Tao forced his hands to be steady as he buttoned it up.
There was another smattering of gunfire in the distance.
The shirt hung loose and oversized on Lark’s small frame, and the tattoo around his neck stood out starkly, but it was better than nothing. Tao glanced around, spotted Lark’s sling on the floor, and scooped it up and looped it around Lark’s neck.
“Sit down and fix that while I get your shoes on.”
Lark sank down to sit on the edge of the bed, while Tao swiped a hand underneath the frame and pulled out Lark’s shoes.
“That’s where they were,” Lark commented numbly, nestling his cast into the sling.
“Yep.” Tao shoved Lark’s feet into the shoes with little grace, and stood, holding out his hand. Lark looked up at him, fear written all over his face, and took it.
“Now we run,” said Tao.
They left Faye’s – Dylan was nowhere to be seen – and instead of going down the driveway Tao led them to the road through the trees. At the edge of the street they crouched in the bushes, and Tao craned his neck to look down the road.
“Shit!”
There was already a squad of soldiers, moving up the road in a fan formation, illuminated by the high full moon. They had full tactical gear and assault rifles.
“Okay, listen,” Tao grabbed Lark’s shoulder, “You’re going to run straight across the road and into the woods, and keep going until you reach a path, okay? Follow-”
“No.”
“Yes, follow the path until you find the car, okay?”
“No!” Lark shook his head wildly, “I can’t!”
“Yes, you can,” Tao said firmly, drawing his pistol, “When I say go, you go.”
“No,” said Lark, “You should run.”
“What?”
Lark stared at him a moment, breathing hard; then he moved faster than Tao would have ever expected. He grabbed the barrel of the gun, yanked it out of Tao’s hand, and started running straight towards the soldiers.
“Lark!” Tao screamed, starting after him. Lark threw the gun as hard as he could into the woods to the north. The soldiers spotted him and lifted their weapons.
“Don’t shoot!” Lark shouted, “It’s me, don’t shoot!”
The soldier on point lowered his gun, and the others followed suit. Lark reached him and flung his arms around the soldier, nearly tackling him.
“I’m here, we can go home now, please don’t hurt anyone!”
But Tao was fast approaching, and the soldiers went back on alert, training their weapons on him. Tao slowed to a jog, then a halt, his survival instincts overriding his need to stop Lark.
It was too late, he realized.
Lark looked over his shoulder at Tao, eyes wide.
“Please don’t shoot him!” he begged the soldiers, “Please – Tao, run!” His voice was a desperate shriek.
Tao could’ve run – but for as little time as he had known Lark, something prevented him from leaving the boy behind. He stood rooted to the spot, his mind a blank.
The soldier Lark was clinging to was tapping his earpiece and saying something Tao couldn’t make out from where he was. Then he pushed Lark off and behind him, and aimed his gun at Tao.
“On your knees!” he shouted, “You’re coming with us!”
Tao wanted to sob with frustration at the situation. They could have made it, if Lark had just listened to him. He slowly raised his hands and sank to his knees. He locked eyes with Lark. The boy looked petrified. Tao couldn’t be angry with him – not now.
A black SUV crested into view behind the line of soldiers. It slowed to a halt, as two of the soldiers advanced on Tao.
A man got out of the backseat. A tall, old man, who stood ramrod straight and wore a long coat and an officer’s cap, despite the heat of the summer night. He radiated power.
The Commander.
Lark tore his eyes away from Tao to look behind him at the sound of the car door closing, and he let out a small cry. He sprinted over to the Commander and abruptly dropped out of view. Tao craned his neck, and his stomach flipped with revulsion when he saw Lark had prostrated himself at the Commander’s feet, and appeared to be licking his boots.
“Lark!” he shouted, jumping to his feet, but the soldiers were on him now and they seized his arms. Tao struggled wildly, stomping on their boots, but they were unfazed. They twisted his arms behind him and efficiently zip-tied his wrists together. Tao didn’t take his eyes off the Commander as they manhandled him – and the Commander looked back. Tao felt ice run down his spine when those cold blue eyes found him. Simply being looked at by the Commander felt like a curse.
A van pulled up behind the SUV, and the soldiers started dragging Tao towards it – towards Lark and the Commander. Tao watched, growing ever closer, as the Commander snapped his fingers and Lark jumped to his feet. Tao was hauled in a wide berth around the reuniting master and pet, and as he passed the Commander fisted a hand in Lark’s long hair and leaned down to kiss him, as if to spite Tao specifically.
Tao let out a wordless shout of rage and redoubled his efforts to escape the soldiers' hold, to no avail. Still trapped in the kiss, Lark’s eyes rolled to look at him.
He looked scared. Desperate – but only for a moment before he closed his eyes and leaned into the kiss, sensually running his hand up the Commander’s chest.
Tao felt his legs go weak.
You’re not going back.
Everything’s going to be okay.
I promise.
It was all turning to lies, right in front of him. He’d failed. Tao went nearly limp, allowing the soldiers to frog-march him to the back of the van.
God only knew what would happen now.

Our Wedding & Move-In Day!
It's hard to believe that just 3 months ago, I met the love of my love life! How we met is quite a funny story, he went into our local haberdashery for a tie for a friend's wedding. While my sister and I were shopping for her husband's suit! Luckily, my lovely sister had served him a few times at her bakery so, she was able to introduce us.
Tumblr media
(No this isn't our first kiss we took this after) We actually had our kiss alone away from the onlookers. Hayden really hated the idea of that many people staring at him... he struggled enough during the vows.
Tumblr media
(still can't even believe I AM MARRIED)
Tumblr media
Shout out to my wonderful sister for helping me stay sane during the planning process. There is really better than an older sister wiser beyond her years. She has actually been engaged for almost a year so, Hayden and I beat her to it (lol).
Tumblr media
(I let her hold my bouquet so she could get a feel for what it feels like!)
Tumblr media
Look at how silly my mom is! I'm so grateful and just can't help but praise god for giving me such an amazing mom. And, yes she is wearing white since I decided to wear a very pale blue it was okay. I'm actually named after her... I don't think I've said my name yet OOPS! My name is Willow Grace Jr. McManus (NOW SNARK!).
Tumblr media
(From left to right Mitchell McManus (my dad), Willow Mcmanus (my mom), Me (Willow Jr. Snark), Hayden Snark (my wonderful husband), Haven Snark (Hayden's little sister), Julie Snark (my mother-in-law) (please do not mind her outfit Hayden said it was okay), Lilah McManus (my older sister)
Tumblr media
Our first house! She's a fixer-upper given to us by my mother-in-law. It has been in the Snark family for decades but has been almost abandoned since Hayden's father went to be with the lord. During our first week back after our honeymoon, all we did was just clean. We have cleaned up our bedroom and the guest bedroom. Hayden said I shouldn't get ahead of myself and turn it into a nursery (though I did try).
Tumblr media
Here is a close-up! We have already been so blessed in this short time. I can't wait to see what else the lord has got in store for us! Give us a follow to keep up with our (hopefully) ever-growing family!

Hopper had a list of things to do in his head. Each step was calculated to either acquire more power or stabilize the empire he had already built. Nonetheless, Colin seemed to be more distracted than usual. The commotion from Atta’s engagement wasn’t usual, and though it didn’t provide any concerning impact, he knew it lighted a fuse. It was a spark of a bright idea, a challenge to his authority that someone was brave or foolish enough to ruin his plans. Though his men had informed him that it was simply a bunch of kids running amok, Hopper didn’t like it one bit. He didn’t like any sort of diversion that wasn’t run by him.
In addition to that, he had witnessed firsthand how utterly chaotic the Tramp family had been. Unlike in the Mafia, where his words have the final say, this family seemed to be oblivious to their own ranking, and Colin gave them a little leeway, simply because he cared for Lilah. His silence was an abundant grace, and that was the most patient he had ever been. All of his plans changed momentarily, and his eyes were now focused on her. There was much to know, and much to do — but nothing was of utmost importance in comparison to her. "Lilah, you know that this is the best for you." It wasn't usual for Colin to negotiate, but somehow she had a say. "You have to move and bring your children in. You can stay in Hotel Transylvania." He added. However, Somehow he anticipated Lilah's pushback, not because she wasn't grateful for his offer but rather because she wanted a life of her own. Colin could understand that; he could sympathize with that. "Then, at the very least, allow me to provide you with hired men until my job is done." He knew that she knew what it meant, and though he didn't use the exact words to represent what was about to happen, Lilah had to know that it was bound to happen anyway. Hopper took her hand and made her sit down, sighing deeply before letting out his assessment of the scenario. "Lilah, I am anticipating a great war. It is beyond my comprehension." Hopper knew about the stir in the magical realm, and though he had kept his hands off it, it was impossible for someone like him to be completely away from it. "I know it'll initiate a war on my end, and I don't want Tramp to use this commotion against me. So I need you safe, and I will promise to keep you safe."

What do you think of Ben Agosto’s twitter commentary? I’m starting to wonder if he’s auditioning for broadcasting gigs and trying to stay in good graces by supporting the winning narrative- do you think him being wowed by FG is convincing?
Q #214:
Hi anon,
Ben has actually had quite a few broadcasting gigs (NBC w/ Tanith for a bit) over the years so I’m not sure it’s as much a continual audition for roles as remaining in the ice dance world. I don’t think him being “wowed by F/G” is necessarily what he’s trying to go for, more of an understanding of the narrative.
It’s hard to be a commentator and be like “well team Y is gonna get a very high score cause of politics despite team X being better” because it undermines viewer confidence in the integrity of the sport… but it is sort of needed for accuracy in ice dance. Which is why it’s very clear in how he never claims that Lilah is good at skating compared to others but to *her previous level.* Which isn’t wrong, but she hasn’t had the Vika Sinitsina glow up in edge quality and control that would rationalize the massive jump in world ranking they’ve undergone as a team. Which is also why he talks about things like Charlene’s bad back mobility which affects the quality of her movement & posture but not necessarily her skating skills, but it’s something that’s pretty clear to people who aren’t familiar with ice dance and lets people draw the conclusion that it’s a reason for their lower score.
It’s pretty clear he’s walking the tightrope of being supportive enough of F/G’s *improvement* to rationalize their jump in ranks, while not actually saying they’re exceptional skaters or even amazing artists (just that their material is different from what everyone else is doing… which there’s a reason no one else is doing it).
That’s just my take! But I hope that helps add clarity.

fursonas for all your ocs NOW
YEAH
Faith: Dogy. She IS a doggirl this is not up for debate. Specifcally a bulldog
Davy: He's really hard to me? I know his Motif Animal is a ferret but that seems a little obvious. He could be a bat also. Idk you decide
Lilah: Mousegirl :) She also kinda has Cat Energy but I don't want to overuse cats (more coming later)
Hope and Charity: they're identical twins so they'd be the same thing, I just don't know exactly what. Their really old animal motif was a unicorn, but idk they have quite that energy. They could possibly be bears actually
Hector: I want him to be a wolf since he's related to Faith but he really just has Lion Energy to me and always has
Max: Kity (scary and pointy and Ferocious)
Win: Kity (soft and fluffy and nice) (they're twins as well so they have the same ones)
Sam: Sam I actually don't know I usually go with Bird Motifs for him but like uhhh.... owl perhaps? Or like corvid of sorts since he likes collecting stuff. One of the death-associated birds
Cecila: I feel like she's also kity just one of those really fluffy show kities that's like more fur than animal
Nathaniel: I think deer? I mean he's called "the songbird" but he is like Grace and Elegance Incarnate so he's. deer
Mallory: Raven. No question
Agatha: Black poodle, but realistically she could also be a wolf or some kind of wildcat.
Osric: ??? Hmmm actually you know what? He's the poodle. Aggie's a wild animal for SURE.
Daphne: Oh she's BUNY
Giles: I don't know enough about Giles yet he's new to the update. He's salamander. To me
Sophia: Oh SHE'S the wolf! And Hector is the lion ok it works out

"I think you owe me an explanation."
The Civil Corps cells are dead silent and dark as a grave. Lilah had expected that; Yan's been shipped off to the Commerce Authority for indictment, and Duvos' soldiers are on their way to Atara under heavy guard; negotiating chips in Ethea's endless war. She's just a girl sneaking into an empty jail cell in the middle of the night.
But the Alliance hadn't taken Pen back, so it's not quite empty. There're rules, for Knights; three to bestow, three to strip away. Grace's mouth had twisted sourly about it, and she'd crossed her arms over her chest.
Atara doesn't have three Knights at their disposal.
So Pen stays where he is.

Ilya, Lilah, Pippa & Stella practice. Trying to really get the style nailed down and the poses looking bold!
I've got about 100 characters to design and that doesn't even get into all the expressions I'll need to do! But none of that scares me! I just want things looking consistent!

Lilah Morgan ( @lilahemorgan )
“I thought about it..” She admitted as she came back into the bedroom from the bathroom and walked over to him. She hadn’t intended to stay the night again, but it beat going home to an empty apartment. She also didn’t want to admit it even to herself much less him, but she was starting to feel comfortable with him and safe. She sat down on the edge of the bed and glanced at the clock on the nightstand. “I don’t have to be at the office for a few hours..”
Tumblr media
Wesley is still in bed,, && if Lilah hadn't been up-and-about he might have slept the remaining hours of her stay away. His days of getting up before sunrise seemed to belong to an altogether different life now. There was nothing to get out of bed for && so he made a point of not becoming conscious until he absolutely had to.
He isn't sure whether or not he is glad she's still here. There is a comfort to company - even if it was the WRONG company --&& Wesley still hasn't forgotten that Lilah is most definitely WRONG. It's just that he doesn't particularly care for that distinction anymore. A lifetime of fighting on the right side && look where that had gotten him?
He swallows - the pain is still there but it hardly bothers him anymore. Still, his hand shoots up to touch the rough scar running over the width of his neck.
"- and you have decided to grace me with your presence?" he replies, his voice tainted with sleep as his hand closes around her wrist, gently but firmly pulling her closer.

School’s In: Prologue
Tumblr media
Career Day at Kilmer Elementary School was always a hectic time for the teachers. Many of the students always wanted to turn the day and activities into a competition of who had the coolest parent or relative.
Jade sat coloring the poster for her class. Across from her was Baylie, who was sharpening the coloring pencils and poking Javy with them.
“Baylie! Stop poking Jav! He’s a friend.”
“That’s why I’m poking him cuz he can’t tell me no.”
“Baylie! I haven’t been saying no,” Javy says chuckling.
“I can’t understand what language you’re speaking,” she teases, sticking out her tongue at him.
He shakes his head and brings more posters for them to color.
“Jade… Who are you bringing to career day?”
Jade carefully put her markers to the side. “My dad. His name is William. He works in a restaurant and bar.”
“That’s more fun than a boring attorney,” Baylie says. “My mom goes to her office and only looks at boring things on her computer,” she adds with a dramatic sigh.
Jade gasps. “Being an attorney sounds fun! You can go to court and tell the judge all the bad things the person did!”
“I guess,” Baylie shrugs.
The next day the classes end early to allow the parents time to set up. Baylie is dragging Delilah to the table she helped prepare. “Ma this is your table! You’re gonna be with my friend’s Navy dad and my other friend’s drinking buddy.”
The moment Lilah and William meet they knew they’d be together, making their girls sisters. The girls continued to make friends and grow. And soon they were in high school.
Soon it wasn’t just Baylie and Jade. It became Baylie, Jade, Rachael, Lara, Grace, Amanda, Milla, Hailie, Robyn, Raven, and Alana. They each had their own likes and dislikes and interests but still were the best of friends all through the years.
These are some of their adventures as they navigate life and high school as the chaos squad.

Another instalment of Mearps and Delilah… based on this video, where Delilah walks in whilst Mearps is doing an interview and you have to do the rescue mission!
part of the a date to remember universe series
interruptions II m.earps
"mummy!" you looked up at the small voice and the patter of feet as there was a flash of dirty blonde and your daughter came flying around the corner crashing into your legs.
"whats up babe?" you chuckled at her eagerness, running a hand through her hair with a smile. "wheres mama?" she sighed, hugging your legs tightly. "she's in a meeting lilah, she's at work." you grabbed beneath her arms and hoisted her up onto your hip.
"no!" delilah shook her head firmly, pointing to the office where your wife had been shacked up most of the day. "not at work!" delilah huffed, her eyebrows furrowed into an angry frown.
"no caterpillars." you teased as you smoothed out her eyebrows with your fingers, watching in amusement as she frowned them together once again. "mama isn't at work baby but she's doing work." you tried to explain, sitting her on the counter.
"i hate work." delilahs frown deepened as you smiled sadly, pulling her into a hug. "baby but work is important to mama. you like watching mama play football yeah?" you asked feeling her nod into your shoulder, her tiny hands balling your shirt into her fists.
"well thats part of mamas work!" you reminded, your daughter pulling her head away and looking at you with an odd look making you chuckle. "she's playing football?" delilah questioned looking away toward the office.
"no lilah but she's talking about football to some people, thats also mamas work." your daughter still seemed a little lost but nodded and appeared a little less distressed.
"how about we read a book and have a snack, then you'll have a little sleep and when you wake up mama will be done with work?" you suggested, heart melting at the way the almost four year olds eyes lit up.
"can i sleep in your bed?" the girl grinned, batting her eyelashes as her hands grabbed the back of her neck. "what's wrong with your bed!" you laughed shaking your head. "yours and mamas is huge!" she exclaimed throwing her hands up.
"maybe. now go pick a book!" you smiled, gently placing her back on her feet. with a shake of your head you turned to rummage through the fridge, listening to the thunder of small feet as your daughter sprinted off to her room.
though when you'd finished making her a snack and she hadn't yet returned, alarm bells raised slightly in the back of your head as you left the kitchen to check on her.
the first thing you noticed was that marys office door was open, though you knew she had media commitments and meetings until four. the next thing you noticed was the tiny body hovering in the doorway, one foot in the room and one foot out, hesitating as she knew she would be doing the wrong thing.
"delilah grace earps, no." you whispered in her direction, shaking your head as her eyes darted to meet yours. "lilah, no." you spoke more firmly this time, though the moment you took one step toward her she was inside the office and you swore.
mary hadn't clocked the door opening, or the hushed whispers of her wife trying to coax her daughter away from her office, but it would appear whomever was interviewing her had.
"well look obviously i've been in discussions with them for months now about the next steps and-" "mary i'm so sorry to interrupt but it would appear you've got a visitor."
"hi mama!" mary jolted at the voice and her eyes widened, delilah clinging to her leg with a wolfish grin. "lilah mama's working, outside please." mary nodded toward the door with a somewhat forced smile, well aware this was being recorded and streamed live.
"no more work. i hate work!" her daughter huffed, smacking her leg as you stumbled into the room, eyes wide like a deer caught in headlights seeing your wife was live.
"delilah, go to mummy please." mary murmured, gently pushing the girl away with her hand who scowled and shook her head, clinging right back to marys leg. "im so sorry give me just two seconds." the goalkeeper apologized to the interviewer who looked more amused than annoyed.
your wifes eyes met your own with a warning look as you nodded, rushing over to grab your daughter who moved to hide under marys desk, causing you to drop to your knees and crawl after her as mary hid her face in her hand with a sigh.
"come here." you warned seriously and at the shift in tone delilah took your outstretched hand, allowing you to pull her into your arms as you stood from the floor. however miscalculating the distance you caught your head on the corner of the desk with a loud thump as mary mumbled under her breath and you winced, hurrying out of the room.
"sorry mummy." delilah tried with her very best puppy dog eyes as she clung onto you and you pulled marys office door shut. "delilah grace-" you started to tell her off once you were out of earshot of the office but at the way your daughters bottom lip wobbled you broke with a sigh.
"lilah." you moved into her bedroom and sat her on the edge of her bed, squatting down so you were eye to eye with her.
"what you just did was very wrong okay? i know you miss mama but when she's working we have to leave her be so she can do her work, the more we interrupt her the longer she has to work." you tried to explain, your resolve wavering as your daughter sniffled.
"but i love mama, just wanted to see her."
"oh baby i know you do, and mama knows you do too. now no one loves mama like you do but lots of people love mama in their own way so sometimes we have to share her with them when she's doing her work." you explained firmly though not unkindly as your finger reached out to wipe away the few tears pooling in the corner of her eye.
"but the best part is that she will always come back okay? and she will always love you more than anyone in the whole wide world." you tickled her gently as she let out a small giggle and your face softened. "more than you?" your daughter asked with wide eyes.
"sometimes!" you both turned to look at mary who was standing in the doorway. you watched your daughters small internal struggle, clearly wanting to go to mary but knowing she was in trouble.
"come here lilah, i'm not mad at you." mary knelt down and opened her arms, the girl racing into them and almost tackling the keeper to the ground. "oh your hugs are magical." mary sighed, squeezing her tightly as your daughter giggled.
"sorry mama." the girl mumbled into her shoulder as mary rubbed her back. "its okay baby i know you are, but next time when the door is closed it means mama is busy, okay?" your daughter nodded in understanding.
"i have a little break from work for now, how about we read a book before your sleep? then when you wake up you me and mummy can go out for dinner. hows that sound?" mary offered, delilahs face lighting up as she nodded excitedly making you both laugh.
mary telling her to pick a book she moved over to the case in the corner as both you and your wife stood. "do you want something to eat?" you asked quietly, the taller girl wrapping you in a tight hug with a nod and a sweet kiss pressed to your lips.
"yes please love."
~
"well she's down for the count, and snoring just like her mummy!" you looked up from the counter with a playful glare as mary entered with a smug smile. "hilarious. need i remind that theres a reason you get roomed alone when you're away for games, tournaments and camp?" you quirked an eyebrow.
"don't be mean now my love." mary grinned moving closer. "she's not the only one who missed you though, big day. you look exhausted baby." you admitted with a frown, marys eyes softening as you fondly kissed her jaw.
"last one for awhile though, few more games and then we're off on holiday just the three of us for two whole weeks." mary reminded of your plans for the upcoming international break, your wife opting to miss national duty in favour of going away for delilahs fourth birthday.
"i can't wait and neither can lilah. i'm sorry about before though, i took my eye off her for a minute and thats all it took." you sighed, sliding the sandwich over to your wife who chuckled, moving to press her body into yours with a thank you for the food.
"how's your head?" mary asked, half in amusement and half in genuine concern as she gently grabbed your face tilting your head from side to side. "fine. my dignity though? long gone." you sighed with a pout which mary wasted no time kissing away.
"i hope you know thats going to go viral, i'm talking worse than the world cup fuck off." your wife mumbled against your lips, her hands gripping your hips as the counter dug a little into your back and your arms wrapped around her neck.
"oh god don't remind me, i've not even looked at my phone yet but its been going crazy for the last half an hour." you pulled away with a groan, burying your face in your wifes chest and feeling her body vibrate with laughter as she held you tightly.
"well my last meetings not for another...twenty five minutes. delilah's down, we have the house to ourselves?" you pulled your head away and met your wifes suggestive smile, feeling her hands start to gently creep from your hips toward your bum.
"i think i can make do with twenty, gives you five to freshen up."

After the first DADA class, it was like Romina regressed back into her summer mood where she was extremely silent and reserved, only showing her face when absolutely necessary. News about the odd Boggart she'd face (and ran out on) had spread like wildfire amongst students, no matter the years. Even Lilah King had asked Arden what exactly happened to Romina. Arden wished she could know too, because Romina wasn't much about talking these days. The only ones who were there either didn't know - as was Harry's, Hermione's and Ron's cases - or simply refused to speak. This was solely on Draco, and no matter how many times Arden bugged him for a right answer, the blonde refused to give it out.
"I'm waiting for something," he would tell her before insulting her to get away from her.
Others, like Carolinha, Angel and Daphne, would try to talk to Romina when she'd grace them with her presence for meals. When they weren't attempting to talk to her, Harry, Hermione and Ron were.
"Just leave me alone!" Romina would end up shouting at them until she left or they did.
Even when the first trip to Hogsmeade rolled around, Romina paid no attention to it despite having her grandparents' signatures on the permission slips. Everyone was excited about their first trip to the winter wonderland place they kept hearing so much about...all except for Romina.
"But c'mooooon!" Arden whined like a child as she followed behind Romina in the common room. "I hear there's this incredible sweet shop we have to go to!"
"Then you go and please don't bother telling me about it afterwards," Romina stopped by a bookshelf to retrieve a book she knew Pansy had hidden from her two days ago. For some reason, Pansy was acting even more rude towards her - and that was saying something considering she usually only battled against Arden. To say, even Pansy was teasing Romina about the Boggart incident.
"Well you don't have to be rude about it," Arden huffed and noticed the Transfiguration book Romina was cradling in her arms. "But it would be incredibly fun to go and just try everything!"
Romina once again shook her head. She left the bookshelf to return to the writing desk she'd been working at. "I'm not going and that's that."
"To Hogsmeade?" Angel's voice made both girls look at the hallway for a second. He was already dressed for the first go in warm clothing complete with an orange beanie. "You're going, right, Romina?"
Romina gave him a dead serious look. "No. I told you this both yesterday, and the day before, and the day before that. I am not going."
Angel moved over to the desk. "We can go to Zonko's, you know? You could use a laugh! Or," he quickly blocked Romina from getting away, "we could go get some nice butterbeer I hear is really good."
Romina sighed and looked around, honestly feeling like the extra attention was too much. "Guys, what's the big deal if I don't go? Besides, I have to go see McGonagall anyways. She's been calling me since yesterday and I'm afraid what she'll do if I don't show up today."
"Okay, then we can stop by her office and then head over to Hogsmeade afterwards!" Angel insisted. "C'mon, Romina, I think this would be very good for you."
"Sounding a bit desperate there, Angel," Pansy came into the common room fixing her jacket. Behind her came Carolinha and Daphne.
"Least she's got someone asking her to go with him," Arden snapped. "Last time I checked, you're more alone than a dog."
"Least I'm not desperate enough to have someone do my work," Pansy shot Romina such a nasty look that the latter was frozen with surprise.
"Pansy, what are you—?"
"Don't talk to her like that!" snapped Arden.
"Oh, shut up, Arden. I'll hex you. I've been learning."
"Leave the hexing for the outside, please," Draco came in, flanked by Crabbe and Goyle as was per usual. "Preferably while I have a drink in hand."
"In your dreams," Arden pointed at him first before continuing with Romina. "Rom, please, let's just go out."
Romina shook her head. "I just don't want to go. What's the point in going somewhere if I'm just going to be sour all the time?"
"But why be 'sour'?" Carolinha put air quotations around the keyword. "It's about that Boggart thing, isn't it?"
"Leave it alone, Paes," Draco suddenly warned. Romina shot him a suspicious look, one that was followed by Angel's and even Pansy's. "If Oswell doesn't want to go then let her do whatever the hell she's got planned…" he then eyed the Transfiguration book on the desk, "...no matter how boring."
Romina rolled her eyes. He had yet to speak to her directly and then he comes out with that? It didn't help that Pansy, in all her excitement, dragged him away. She slammed her book shut and got up from her table. "I'm gonna go see McGonagall," she muttered and walked out shortly after.
~ 0 ~
With most of the school gone for Hogsmeade, it was a lonesome and quiet walk down the hallway. She headed up to McGonagall's office where she was sure she was already being waited on.
"Come in," the professor motioned her to take a seat at her desk.
"Am I in trouble?" was the first thing that flew out of Romina's mouth. Suddenly, her 'I don't care' attitude seemed more like a facade than anything else. This, McGonagall saw.
"Do you think you ought to be?" she asked the young girl. "You have not turned in any of my assignments since the term started. To be quiet honest, I'm concerned with your grades however, your head of House doesn't seem to be as concerned as I am. Seems his class is the only class you bother to turn in assignments."
"Potions?" Romina said, her nose scrunching. "I haven't been turning anything in..." She knew for a fact she had yet to turn in one single assignment for any of her classes. The fact that it was McGonagall who had caught on to her streak was perhaps the most expected thing. Still, that left the matter of where these so-called potions assignments were coming from.
"Normally, this is a conversation you would be having with professor Snape seeing as he is, of course, your head of House but I took the liberty of stepping in because I have something that might help you out," McGonagall said. He moved a plate of biscuits on the desk towards Romina. "Eat."
Romina silently reached for one of the biscuits and took a bite. Admitting just to herself...they were kind of good. "What...exactly do you mean by that?"
"Before this term, it was my understanding that you had an affection for Transfiguration. Your skills certainly showed that. I have no doubt that if you continue like that, I'll more than likely see you in my N.E.W.T. class in the future. In the spirit of making that happen, I am assigning you tutoring."
"Tutoring?" frowned Romina. "But you just said that I was good at—"
"You misunderstand, Miss Oswell," McGonagall cut her off. "I am assigning you to be the tutor."
"Huh?" Romina blankly stared at the woman. "Come again?"
"Since it seems like my lessons no longer interest you nor challenge you, I am giving you the responsibility of replicating these lessons with another student." McGonagall was nothing if not stern with her words. What she said was law and even Romina wouldn't be able to get out of it. Still, Romina was going to try.
"But professor, I'm just a 3rd year! I can't teach anyone!"
"Oh, I'm sure that you can teach a 2nd year student," McGonagall shrugged. "She's very smart if not slightly misguided about the art of Transfiguration. I'm sure you'll be able to help her. All she really needs is to practice."
"But—"
"It's either you tutor her, or I gather up your professors and we all communicate with your aunt and uncle about this. I haven't seen Sage or Caplan in many, many years."
Romina was done with her biscuit and returned the leftovers to the plate as an act of defiance. She leaned back in her chair, very much put out with the circumstances.
"Of course..." McGonagall lowered her head, her eyes looking up from her glasses, "Should you wish to talk about whatever is bothering you, we can also do that too."
Romina crossed her arms. "I am not bothered by anything." Lie. She was bothered by many things at the moment.
"Very well," McGonagall said, "She's already waiting for us in my classroom."
"Already?" Romina's eyes widened. "Who's — I don't know what I'm supposed to teach her!"
"It'll be fine," McGonagall stood up from her desk, "Follow me. I'll introduce you to her and give you some instructions on the way."
Romina let out a huff as she got up from her chair and followed the professor out. They walked together to her classroom and sure enough, Romina learned that the second year girl was to learn some specific transfiguration lessons. What irritated Romina the most is that they were lessons that she did know how to do which meant that she could teach the girl something.
"Miss Lovegood," McGonagall said as she led Romina inside the class, "I've brought your new tutor."
Romina saw a petite girl standing at the front of the classroom with the longest, straggly, blonde hair she had ever seen. She had bright blue eyes and a sort of lazy smile about her. She was a Ravenclaw too.
"Hello," the girl greeted and Romina wondered if her voice was naturally soft.
"Miss Oswell, this is Luna Lovegood, one of my 2nd year students," McGonagall introduced, "Miss Lovegood, this is Romina Oswell, your new tutor. Twice a week you will meet here to gain a little more practice on our lessons. Is that clear?"
"Mhm," nodded Luna, her eyes still glued to Romina.
"Better get started then," McGonagall said, specifically eyeing Romina. "Let me know how it goes."
Romina begrudgingly nodded and watched the woman leave. She sighed. "Well, it's nice to meet you Luna."
"It's nice to meet you too," Luna said, "Although, I already know you."
"You do?" Romina eyed her curiously. She was sure she would remember Luna.
Luna leaned forwards and whispered. "You're the girl afraid of adults."
Romina swallowed hard. It seemed like nobody had realized what her boggart had taken to making up theories instead. Being the the girl afraid of adults was just fine with her.
"It's okay, though," Luna continued calmly, soothingly, "I find most adults have a troubling aura around them. We just need to be careful."
"Uum...right…" Romina looked down and noticed Luna wasn't wearing any shoes. "Um, Luna, where are your shoes?"
Luna glanced down at her bare feet and shrugged. "They've mysteriously disappeared."
"Uuh...shouldn't you tell your head of House?"
"That's okay. Last year the same thing happened and they were returned by the end of the year."
Honestly, Romina could tell this would turn out to be an interesting session. At the very least, it would be entertaining enough to distract her for a while. Luna turned away from Romina and faced the golden goblet McGonagall had left behind for them to work on.
"Professor McGonagall was most kind when she said you would help me with transfiguration," Luna began to say while Romina opened up Luna's Transfiguration book on a desk.
"Yeah, well, don't be fooled. I'm good but...I'm pretty sure that Hermione would be a better tutor than me..."
"Professor McGonagall knew what she was doing," Luna said matter-of-factly. "She probably thought you could use a distraction from your Boggart problem."
At that instance, Romina whirled around. "Luna, you can talk about whatever you want but not that, alright? Anything else is fine. Seriously."
Luna gave a nod, still smiling warmly. It sort of made Romina feel guilty for her sudden lash out. Luna was, after all, a year younger and completely innocent of any problems Romina had.
"Why don't we just get started?" Romina decided then. "Professor McGonagall said that you were having trouble transfiguring certain objects." Luna raised the golden goblet from the desk, her eyes blinking exceptionally slow. "Right, like that."
"I keep telling professor McGonagall that we might be hurting them."
"Hurting...what?"
"What we're using to transfigure, of course."
"Luna, that's just a goblet. I can see where you're getting at with the animals but professor McGonagall had told us that it doesn't hurt the animals."
"But how do we know for sure? Have we asked them?"
"Well, no, but—"
"Then should we really be using them for our lessons?"
Romina was left speechless for a minute. Smiling, Luna carefully settled the goblet on the desk between them and waited for Romina to give an answer.
~0~
The school was still stark quiet when Romina called it a day with Luna. It turned out the girl was rather eccentric, a bit funny but Romina liked it. Luna offered a pure distraction and, plus, she was a sweet girl who cared about the oddest of things. In her thoughts, Romina didn't spot Harry coming out of professor Lupin's office and bumped into the boy.
"Harry?" Romina spoke his name, confused by his presence.
"What are you doing here?" the two asked each other at the same time.
"No permission slip for Hogsmeade," Harry answered first and waited for Romina to go next.
She bit her lip and gave a nervous shrug. "Didn't feel like it."
"What? You didn't want to go to Hogsmeade?" Harry incredulously said. You shouldn't even be surprised. Romina had been way too depressive ever since the boggart incident. It was obvious that Hogsmeade wouldn't be on her to-do list.
"Why would I?" Romina shrugged again. "Better off here where nobody can see me. Besides, I just had a tutoring session."
"What, you're being tutored?" Harry blinked. "By who?"
"Other way around," Romina motioned a 180 movement with her finger. "I'm the tutor in this equation. McGonagall put me to tutor some second year girl because apparently I'm good at it."
"You are," Harry said. "I know you've been slacking off this year but you were really good at that. Better than Hermione, honestly."
"Oh, don't let her hear that," Romina said, making a face. She loved Hermione but nobody could deny how defensive the girl got if she wasn't the best at everything.
Harry half smiled. "I'm glad you're doing something academic again. It's weird seeing you not even try with your work. You're brilliant, Rom."
"Thanks," Romina said, and suddenly she was looking at Harry curiously.
"What?" asked the boy, confused.
"Have you been turning in my Potions assignments, by any chance?"
Harry didn't laugh in her face out of sheer politeness. "Are you kidding? I can barely keep up with my workload, let alone someone else's! Besides, Snape hates me. He'd know if I did someone else's work. Why?"
"It's just..." Romina was even more confused than before, "When we were talking about my classes and homework, McGonagall said that the only class I wasn't slipping in was Potions. And I know that can't be right because I have not been turning anything in to anyone. And it's like you said, Snape would know if someone was doing my work."
"Not if it was another Slytherin," Harry said without a second thought. "It's no secret that Snape favors those from his House. Maybe it was Arden."
"No, she would've told me by now and made a big deal out of it too."
"Well, maybe Angel then," Harry said, shrugging, "He seems to really care about you."
"Yeah, but I feel like he would've—" Romina abruptly stopped talking. Something had flashed across her eyes and Harry wasn't sure what it was.
'Least I'm not desperate enough to have someone do my work'
Pansy's words were on repeat inside Romina's head. What's more, she remembered something one of the their early Potions classes.
Draco had started cutting the uneven roots — all of them — with both of his hands.
"Oh, he wouldn't have..." Romina mumbled under her breath. The idea was laughable...and yet...
"Rom!" Harry snapped his fingers in front of her face, startling her. "Hey? You okay?"
"A-aha," Romina swallowed hard. "I have to go see somebody. Scuse me."
"What?" Harry turned after Romina, even more confused than before. "What's going on?"
"Nothing! It's — it's stupid!" Romina called back. "See you later, Harry!" She dashed off.
~ 0 ~
Truth be told, and this Romina would admit later on, she probably should have thought longer about what she was going to say. However, at that moment, she was just so fed up with all the confusion and erratic behavior of Draco Malfoy. She was going to find him and make him explain himself. That came after all students were to come back from Hogsmeade for dinner. She was pacing back and forth in her dorm when the rest of her friends started walking in.
"You're back!" she stopped midway.
Each of the girls were pink-faced from the cold day, but that didn't stop them from being giggly messes and carrying their shopping bags.
"Romina! You would love Hogsmeade!" Arden said as she dropped a bag on Romina's bed. "I got you some sweets—"
"Are the boys back too?" Romina cut her friend off and even looked at Pansy and Milicent for an answer.
"Yes, with the others in the common room, messing around," drawled Pansy, "Why?"
"Don't worry about it," Romina said sharply. "Is Draco around?"
"Why?" Pansy frowned.
"Normally I'd disagree with anything she says but in this case, she's right," Arden said, "Why?"
"Because he owes me an explanation!" Romina left it at that and stormed out of the room. She went straight to the common room, eyes scanning through the groups of returning students. It didn't take long to find him and when she did, she stalked right over and grabbed Draco by his uninjured arm and pulled him aside.
"Hey, hey, hands off!" He ordered her immediately.
"Shut up and listen!"
"What, gonna ask if I bought you anything like King did? Or Angel?" Draco's smirk was shortlived when Romina smacked him repeatedly. "Hey!" He frowned and grabbed both her hands. "Stop it!"
"You stop it!" Romina said frantically. "Stop being so fucking confusing! It's either you're mad at me or not!"
"Right now, I'm more or less concerned for you," Draco said, annoyingly calm which just made things worse. "Is there any reason why you're acting even more insane than usual?"
"Because of you!" Romina pulled her hands out of his grip and pointed one sharp finger at him. "I'm gonna ask you something and if you know what's good for you, you'll answer with the truth. Have you been turning in Potions assignments to Snape as if they were mine?"
"Yeah."
"You better answer—" Romina froze when his answer registered. Little by little, her face scrunched. "Wait — you have!?" Draco nodded. "Why? Why would you — aren't you mad at me?"
"Yeah, but that's one thing and what you're doing in your classes is a completely different thing," he said, explaining as if it were completely obvious to even the dumbest person.
"You should come with a translation book because I don't get a thing that you're saying right now!"
Draco scoffed, about to laugh at her. "Nu-uh, you're insane but you're not stupid. You know exactly what I'm talking about. And I know exactly what you're doing. That boggart you ran away from — we both know who it is."
And just like that, the color drained from Romina's face. "Shut the fuck up right now," she warned.
"Not until you admit that those two were—"
"I said shut up!"
"—your parents!"
"They're not my parents!" Romina argued and only kept his voice low so as to not draw any attention to herself. "I don't know who the hell that boggart turned into and you shouldn't be turning in any of my assignments! If I want to fail, that's my business!"
"A business you'll regret when you get out of this funk," Draco said, continuing with his calm streak. It was even more infuriating for Romina. She was unraveling and she knew it but by God she would not admit it. "I'm doing you a favor, Oswell."
"A favor that I'm sure you'll get me back for," Romina said without missing a beat. "Because that's how you operate. I know you demanded that Arden do your History homework last year in exchange for that paper in Hermione's hand when she was petrified. If you do this for me now, you'll just ask for something in return later so I would rather go to Snape right now and tell him what's been going on!"
Draco turned her right back around when she made a move for the entrance doors. "I think the fuck not!" He squeezed her arm to keep her in place. "If you do that, then we're both goners. I will not have my record tarnished because you're having an episode of denial."
"Denial!?" Romina grew more outraged by the second.
"Yeeeees!" Draco said sharply and loudly, much to Romina's alarm.
"Shut up!"
"You're completely in denial about who your parents are and the fact that you look remarkably like your mother—"
"I said to the shut the fuck up! You are — let go of me!" Romina pulled her arm out of his grip. "I don't know what you're saying. I have no mother!"
For a minute, they stared at each other, neither one with the intention to back down. Draco's expression was a flatout 'you're in denial'. He never thought he'd see Romina like that, honestly. She was usually so calm and collected but this was a whole other side of her.
"Stop turning in work for me!" Romina said again. "You're going to get caught! How you haven't is beyond me!"
"That's kind of flattering—"
"Oh my God, it's like talking to the wall! Do you hear any of my words when I say them!?"
At the question, Draco scoffed. "I think the whole bloody castle can hear your words. You're very loud when you want to be."
"Then listen! I don't know what your game is but I don't want to play! Besides, last time I checked, you don't consider me a friend anyways!"
"Again with that—"
"YES!" Romina couldn't help herself and yelled. Why was he being so calm about everything? "Don't you remember? You humiliated me in front of our friends and for what? Because Pansy told you that I laughed? In case you didn't know, Blaise and Theo laughed too!"
"Yeah, but there's a difference," Draco said flatly. "They'll laugh at anything. I laugh at them. You, however, wouldn't have laughed if it had been your precious Harry Potter on the ground."
"To be fair, Harry wouldn't have gotten himself into that situation in the first place," Romina blurted out and immediately saw the ire that flashed across Draco's eyes. "Sorry, okay!" She exclaimed quickly. That one was on her. "I just meant — Harry listened to what Hagrid told us. You didn't. And yes, I did laugh, and I felt guilty so I came to see you and apologize but you never even gave me the chance. You just...kicked me out." The anger which nowadays seemed permanent on her face disappeared for a moment.
In the three years that Draco knew Romina, he could not count on one hand the times he had seen her look remotely sensitive about anything. It just wasn't her. So now he had no idea what to do with this version of her in front of him.
Romina sensed that she had overshared her actual feelings on the matter and acted quick to brush it off. "But don't you worry, I don't intend on letting you embarrass me like that again. And if I want to drown, then you let me. Maybe that's what I want."
Draco watched her turn to leave. He didn't know if she had heard him or not but he spoke nothing but the truth. "Well, it's too damn bad that I just don't listen." With that, he took off after her, seized her arm and pulled her right beside him and continued the walk towards the dorms.
"What are you doing!?" Romina immediately tried prying his hand off her arm. "Let go of me!" She tried pulling away from him, feeling rather smushed at his side.
"Either you walk with me or I tell everyone right now who the boggart was," Draco made the threat quietly and calmly.
"You wouldn't dare." As soon as the words left Romina's mouth, Draco stopped walking, gave her a look and then turned back to the common room. She panicked the moment he opened his mouth. "Okay, okay, okay!" she said quickly, her hands in front of her. "Don't— please don't!"
Content that he had gotten her full cooperation, Draco grabbed her arm again and walked her into the hallway.
"I said I'd come. You don't need to grab me like this," Romina muttered, still trying to pull out of his tight grip.
"Can't have you running on me," was his simple response.
"Why does it matter?"
"Because you're not one to let yourself drown. It's actually pathetic, really."
Romina scoffed. "Oh, well, thanks. Guess I can't even do that right."
Draco let her go when they reached her dorm. "No, you can't," he said bluntly, "And to make it clear, you're doing it all wrong!"
"Yeah, I got that, thanks—"
"No," he pointed at her. She shoved his finger away from her face. "Between you and me, we can agree that we both know what that boggart was."
It physically pained Romina to admit to it. The strain was all over her face. "I don't know them," she insisted.
"No, guess you technically wouldn't but the thing is, the whole world knows about them. You want to make it clear that you're not their daughter? Act like yourself again, not this ruddy brainless doll you've become."
"Hey!" Romina frowned.
"You're floating but if you keep it up, you're going to fall. You're going to dig up a hole that you won't be able to climb out of. Start doing your fucking work, start talking again, and start arguing again! I miss that!"
Romina blinked at him. To his credit, Draco's gaze did not waver. He knew exactly what he said and he was not going back on it.
"It's boring," he said in the end.
"...admit you were wrong then," she said suddenly.
The surprise was too much; Draco laughed. "What?"
Romina crossed her arms. "I don't think you get it. You kicked me out in front of our friends. You humiliated me and all for some stupid girl who fed you lies. Admit that you were wrong about that."
"The best I can do is give myself 30% of the fault," Draco shrugged. "You did laugh at me."
"No fucking way! The best I can do" — she mimicked his voice — "is give myself 30%. You kicked me out."
"Yes, so you keep saying. How about 50% then? You laughed, and you let King insult me too."
Romina didn't budge. "Thirty percent. You let Pansy brainwash you!"
"Did she lie about you laughing?"
"Well, no, but—"
"You're more upset that I listened to Pansy than you," Draco said as if he just noticed the fact. He leaned a little closer to her face, smirking. "Why is that, Oswell?"
Romina could not take his smirking face. She paid him with the same coin. "Why'd you go up to the creature in the first place?"
There was a brief period of silence that followed after the two questions. Neither one could answer the question without slightly incriminating themselves with ideas that would not bode well for either side.
Finally, Draco spoke. "Fine. Take your 30% then."
Romina smirked victoriously. "Pleasure doing business with you."
Draco rolled his eyes. "Does this mean that you'll go back to doing your work?"
"Maybe," Romina shrugged. "I am a little bit behind in all my classes..."
"Little bit?" Draco had the suspicion that it was not a 'little bit' at all. "You should get help with that."
"Maybe I will," Romina nodded. "And by the way, you can get rid of the sling now. Think you've made it very clear that you're hurt."
"Nah, it's getting me some good attention."
Romina scoffed. "No!" She sighed, her eyes falling over the infamous sling. "Hey, want to see something cool?"
"From you?" Draco scoffed. "That'll be the day."
Romina shoved him away, ignoring his laugh. "Give me a second!" She said then disappeared in her dorm.
Inside, her friends were surprised to see her so excited as she searched for something in her trunk.
"Romina, are you feeling better?" Arden called from her bed. "You want to try some of those sweets now?"
"In a sec, Arden! Aha!" Romina had found what she was looking for and dashed out of the room again.
"What are you— hey!" Draco had not expected Romina to grab his arm and pull him away from her dorm. The last thing she wanted for some nosy people to listen in on them.
"You know what this is, right?" Romina twirled a black marker between her fingers.
"Yes," drawled Draco, "What are you doing with it?"
"I wanted to show you a little muggle tradition they have, sort of to make a person who got hurt feel better," Romina pointed to his sling, "And despite the fact you are not actually that hurt…"
Draco scowled. "You want to go back to 50%?"
Romina laughed and made a gesture that she would stop. "So anyways, when a muggle gets a cast or something along those lines, other people usually write a little something on their cast or sling."
"What for?"
"To make it fun, I guess? Can't be that fun wearing a cast or a sling I imagine. Like one of my friends back in my neighborhood, Nadine, she loves basketball. I mean, this girl breathed, lived and sweated basketball—"
"What's basketball?" It seemed like Draco was losing her track more and more.
"Irrelevant but it's a muggle sport. Anyways, Nadine got hurt one time and her entire leg had to be in a cast so while she was downm the rest of us wrote little positive messages on her cast. Others doodled and left something funny for her to see every time she got sad."
This time, Draco followed but his face was unsure. "And...that's what you want to do...to me…?"
"If you let me," Romina shrugged. "I won't write anything mean if that's what you're worried about. I'm not you."
"Wow, looks like you want to go up to 60%..."
"Alright, alright, so can I?"
"What are you going to write?" Despite sounding unsure, Draco had already let her take his arm in the sling closer to her, and by extension him as well.
"Something simple," Romina pulled the cap off the marker and scooted closer. Her curls sticking out mildly tickling Draco's face.
He watched her lean forwards and began writing something on his sling. It was a little difficult but she managed to get the ink to stay. Draco tried to see what she was writing but her head was covering it. Her scent filled his immediate area and he discovered she carried a faint rosy-like scent with her.
"There!" Romina raised her hand to reveal small words.
Happiness is a warm puppy - Romina.
"What is that?" Draco didn't know whether to laugh or get mad. He did, however, considered taking the sling off now.
"It's a Charlie Brown line, stupid!" Romina groaned. "You cannot go in life not knowing Peanuts."
"I know what 'peanuts' are!"
Romina made a motion of frustration but took a breath to calm herself. "That's not the peanuts I was talking about!"
"This is ridiculous," Draco concluded after re-reading the message.
"But you're smiling…" Romina pointed at him with the marker in her hand. "See? It works."
"Yeah, well you're smiling too," Draco directed the marker back at her face.
"Not the point!"
"Quiet!"
"You can't just tell me 'quiet' because you're losing!"
"'Losing'? Losing at what!?"
The two began going back and forth with pointless arguments. And all was well with the world again.

The Sunnydale Herald Newsletter, Tuesday, October 24, Part I
Buffy: Where did you send him? Anya: The land of the trolls. He'll like it there. Full of trolls. Willow: It's hard to be precise, though. Alternate universes don't stay put. Trying to send him to a specific place is sort of like ... like ... trying to hit a ... puppy, by throwing a live bee at it. Which is a weird image, and you should all just forget it. Anya: It's possible that he's in the land of perpetual Wednesday ... or the crazy melty land ... or, you know, the world without shrimp. Tara: There's a world without shrimp? I'm allergic. Willow: He, he's probably in troll land. Buffy: I only care that he's not here, and I got this nifty souvenir.
