You couldn't help but laugh at Kate's concerned expression. You'd just twisted your ankle and could barely walk. You were on strict instructions from the doctor to stay off the ground and most importantly, stay off the field.

And knowing Kate, she would make sure that you followed those orders because you didn't, you'd get hurt again. You were stubborn and she knew that, but she was equally as stubborn when it came to taking care of you. She cared about you deeply, and sometimes her worry could be a bit overwhelming, but you knew it came from a place of love and genuine concern for your well-being.

As she helped you settle onto your bed, you couldn't help but appreciate her persistence even if she was a little overbearing.

Despite your protests, Kate insisted on fetching ice packs and pillows to elevate your injured ankle. She hovered around you, fussing over every detail, making sure you were as comfortable as possible.

With a sigh, you finally relented, accepting her help and allowing yourself to relax. You knew that with Kate by your side, you'd recover in no time. Plus, having her around made the whole situation a lot more bearable.

As she sat beside you, you couldn't help but smile at her, grateful for her support. "Thanks, Kate," you said softly.

Kate laughed a little as she shook her head. "I told them I'm not going."

Kate shrugged nonchalantly. "Since my girlfriend decided to twist her ankle and needs me here to take care of her."

As you settled in with Kate by your side, you couldn't help but feel a wave of warmth wash over you. With her there, even the pain in your ankle seemed more bearable.

She squeezed you in closer as your head fell on her shoulder. "I can't believe I'm not going to play in next week's game."

"I know, it sucks," she said empathetically. "But your health comes first, always. And hey, you'll be back on the field before you know it, kicking ass like you always do."

You sighed, leaning into her warmth. "I just hate feeling so helpless, you know? I want to be out there with the team, not stuck in bed."

But I'm feeling petty, so I'm just going to post my response here anyway. Specifically in response to the person in the notes who said they have no idea what my book is about despite seeing it posted everywhere, which tells me one certain thing.

Like friends, I cannot tell you the lengths I go to so that people can make an informed decision about buying my book and still ask me basic questions which tell me THEY'RE NOT CLICKING THE LINKS.

I provide a synopsis, themes, content tags, heat ratings, reps-- I even explain WHY there are two editions of the book and also how Hunger Pangs came to be. I link them in all my promo posts so people can click them, read more, and decide if Phangs is for them.

The fact that people are complaining they have no idea what my book is about is on them. I cannot spoon-feed you every detail in brief promo posts that I'm trying to design to be as non-annoying as possible because, haha, fun glimpse into what my life looks like; when I DO reblog the longer posts with all that info, I get people telling me to KMS for posting walls of text onto their dash, or people just straight up telling me, "I'm not reading all of that" or "is it gay, though?"

There's a post from someone outside of the US about how people in the US don't put their country down and just put down their state and something about US people being US centric, and part of it has always kind of bothered me because I think that people outside of the US don't really understand how states work for us or why people think their state should be enough. Some of it is being US centric for sure, but I honestly don't think that's the main reason.

It's because the US is a bunch of countries in a trench coat. I've compared it before to the EU, and I really do think that's accurate. It's literally a union of states. Each state has it's own government and laws and we have the federal government too but day to day a lot more of your life comes down to the state laws. Your driver's license, license plate, wage and a lot of employment protect (and enforcement), vast majority of court experiences, etc all go through the state. Moving to different states can mean being subject to wildly different laws, tax rates/methods, and forms of discrimination (ie florida trying to ban queer people while other states are explicitly adding protections for them).

Like, you'll notice that streamers often tend to be clustered in certain states in the US, and a lot of that has to do with certain states not having an income tax. Depending on what state they're registered in, companies can be subject to wildly different laws. Hence why Delaware is so popular for businesses. Bankruptcy law works differently in every state.

Lawyers are licensed to practice by state, and while they can move to different states, it's difficult and depending on their area of law they may be totally out of their field. Even small states like Delaware have totally different laws from a place 15 minutes to the left like New Jersey.

The largest single state by population is California which has nearly 40 million people. That is more than the entire population of Canada. It's roughly on par with Poland. Give or take a million people.

Ohio has about 11 million people, about 1 million more than Sweden. Florida has 22 million, over double Greece's population. New York and Romania both come out to about 19 million each.

Our smallest state by population, Wyoming, which has about 500k people, still has about 200k more people than Iceland.

Fucking Russia literally does not have half the population of the US. It sits at 144 million while we're at 333 million.

To give a sense of landmass/scale, France is the largest EU state by landmass with 630k square km. Texas alone is 695k. Alaska is 1.7 million square km. The US in total is 11.3 million square km. The entire EU has 4.2 million square km.

The US is 1) fucking huge and 2) so much less cohesive than a lot of non-Americans assume.

So why would someone from the US just put down their state? For the same reason that most people from the EU don't write down "Germany in the EU". Your state is where you're actually from, the USA is the weird umbrella you live under.

The snug, small room was still dipped in complete darkness; yet Loki could make out the full moon, which hung high in the Norwegian sky from his spot in the bed, telling him that it must be very late. Loki swallowed hard, only noticing now that the duvet, which was once wrapped around his body was nowhere to be seen anymore. "Darling... What are you doing?" He asked again. You smiled seductively, tugging at the waistband of his black trunks. "What do you think I'm doing?" You asked in a hushed tone, tickling the inside of his right muscular, thick thigh with your fingertips, sending a jolt through his body. Heat crawled up within him, shooting straight to the place between his legs.

Perhaps the original Norwegian Aquavit was a tad bit too strong for you, resulting in you, getting quite tipsy. You sometimes behaved like that when you had consumed a certain amount of alcohol. Loki guessed tonight was such a night... Shit. He swallowed hard, trying desperately to keep his cool.

"I-I know, darling, but no," Loki started, placing his hand on top of yours (The one which was still buried inside his pants.) to keep you from going further. "You told me the day we went to the airport, that I am not allowed to seduce you on this trip and - I quote 'Keep those big, strong, magical hands off you', and now you're trying to seduce me? the riverwalk! it's basically like this giant strip of area along the chicago river with restaurants and bars and stuff<3 there's always music playing and people milling about and so many things to catch your eye! honestly i really like it at night, i think it's prettiest during sunset lol

the architectural boat tour. you literally just sit on a boat and some guy points out different buildings and tells you about its history and then you briefly go on the lake. i LOVEEEE taking people out on this, it's really really fun and you get good pics out of it. make sure to bring a jacket bc lake michigan. she is gorgeous and she is WINDY even in the summertime<3

obligatory millennium park/the bean mention. it's really fucking swarmed on the weekends so if ur not good with crowds avoid this area during that time but a good place to mill around! also to make fun of the bean. she is so ugly but she is a part of the city you know. (also it's right next to michigan avenue if you need to get a gift for someone/want to go shopping!)

wait obvi the sears tower + observational deck. if anyone calls it the willis tower you can spit on them. legally.

okay let's get into the museums. they're all cloistered around the same area (a bit past millennium park) so like. i guess you COULD try to see a bunch of them in one day but like. there's so much that you really can't feasibly do that lol

the art institute of chicago. MY FAVORITE PLACEEEEEEEE. i personally really like the medieval art exhibits + on the bottom floor is a really cool miniature exhibit where they showcast different rooms from different eras and theyre all SO tiny and SO cute. the food here's pretty good? lol

there's also the museum of contemporary art but the art institute has a pretty damn good modern art section but if ur really into that kind of stuff go here instead.

field museum. LOVEEE this place. you can see sue the dinosaur<3 i once got in trouble here as a kid on a field trip bc i asked the guide how much of the shit there was stolen and they did not let me ask another question ):

adler planetarium + shedd aquarium + museum of science and industry -> these are also all in the same area. for all the museums they have days with discount prices so check that out before u go!

there's two zoos, lincoln park zoo and brooklyn. lincoln park is superior and also it's free and there's OKAPIS. GO SAY HI TO THEM FOR ME.

if you dont mind driving out a bit, there's the chicago botanic gardens around wilmette/glencoe (tied w the art institute as my fave place) and if you drive a bit further out to lisle there's the arboretum as well. they also do discount days!

if u drive out to the suburbs -> woodfield mall in schaumburg

for the museums and stuff i would really rec getting one of those city passes bc you get admission into a bunch of stuff either at a discount rate or it's included and it's WAY cheaper than getting individual tickets imo

ALSO. lake michigan. just in general. THE best of the great lakes and the truest love of my life.

if there's anything you wanna see u might check out the aragon before u come! same with ravinia. i fucking love ravinia it's great to sit on the lawn and listen to music during summer nights<3

EDIT: fucking forgot navy pier. if you come during august there's the air + water show. but also there's a ferris wheel there and that's fun. there's always something happening there on the weekends so you can always dip in just to see what's up

EDIT 2: there's some stupid fucking nascar thing happening in chicago rn that's blocking the roads so as long as u avoid that, you will be fine 👍

deep dish pizza is a must here. i dont care what people say about it, it's pizza. anyways my favorite place is lou malnati's (the lou especially) but giordano's is also really good. uno's is...whatever to me don't go there.

chicago hot dogs: SOOO many good ones. portillo's is a classic, superdawg, charcoal delights, byron's hot dogs..my personal fave is gene and jude's but it's a bit out of the city (it IS around o'hare the airport so if u can stop by then that would be best lol)

for korean food, you cannot beat cho sun ok. go and get their chadolbaegi and their mulnaengmyeon. killer combo. don't wear your best clothes here bc you will have to wash it bc of the (good!) smells. additionally you can go to joongbooshijang/joongboo market and outside there's a mandu/dumpling stand. their kimchi mandu and their red bean mandu. chef's fucking KISS.

for kabobs, noon-o-kabab or kabobi is my favorite! if you go for kabobi make sure you get their bamiyeh as dessert (^:

i looooveee goddess and the baker. bestttttt place for matcha/coffee and a sandwich. hero coffee bar is also pretty good but that one is a grab and go. oromo cafe is sooo good if ur into turkish coffee and pistachio and rose flavors. lots of vegan options there if you're into that. there's another one i love but i CANNOT remember the name of it for the life of me.

wait one last thing. frontera grill is like......really good. i went with my parents and it was nice, really fucking good flan lol

I want my world to have a crazy amount of impressively shaped rocks that stick into the air, but the main thing I want is to have them be big at the top and small at the bottom, basically ones that may not look stable. Think ones like Al Naslaa or Balancing Idol Rock. But I also want to do this with much larger rocks and smaller bases and literally all over the place, not isolated areas. I'm thinking the largest ones are definitely over a km long where you can literally walk near the base and be under the whole thing, even put a house there. I'm thinking of actually putting a standard sized athletic track around the base of one too. How possible is this? How could this happen? How about safety concerns? What's the largest difference of size/base I could go?

Tex: Physics is rather the bane of everyone’s existence when it comes to worldbuilding, because ordinarily such a shaping of rocks usually topples over because of an uneven weight, erosion at the thinnest part, or even an earthquake that snaps it in half. I would look at your references - in this case, Al Naslaa and Balancing Idol Rock - and work out some rough visual proportions. Once you have those, calculate the ratios between thinnest and thickest sections of the rock, and maybe vary things by up to, say, 5% for some plausible deniability on the physics. After that, you can take your kilometer-long top and estimate how thin, in comparison, the thinnest section of your rock would need to be.

Wootzel: Ah, hoodoos! We love a good hoodoo.

The two examples you mentioned are somewhat extreme for Earth standards, but hoodoos of various sizes and shapes crop up in lots of places. They generally form when a layer of harder, more resilient rock forms on top of a layer of softer rock that erodes more easily, or when a boulder made of harder rock winds up sitting on softer rock for a long time. This usually happens when igneous rocks (made by volcanic activity) form over sedimentary rock, since sedimentary rock erodes much, much more quickly. The harder rock protects what it’s sitting on top of, so the sedimentary rock right up under it isn't touched, but the edges slowly recede until you end up with a slimmer pillar holding up a large mass. 

So, what could have caused this to be incredibly common for your world? Perhaps your tectonic plates were slow-moving, pretty stable, for a very long time, but then some wacky event basically took a stirring-spoon to your planet’s surface. This could allow plenty of time for sedimentary rock to be the norm, and then have the planet go nuts with igneous rocks on top. This could be something striking the planet, or even a rogue planet or other large body wandering through the solar system close enough to do some funky yanking on your planet’s shape. You don’t have to define what this event was, or even have it condensed into a singular event, but these are plausible explanations you could play with if you want to look into what other effects this could have on your landscape. 

So, let’s say you have a preponderance of igneous rocks, half-eroded, on top of some VERY eroded sedimentary rock. The scale at which this could take place… well, that’s a good question. Erosion would be working at both of these rock types, just at different rates. If the chunk of harder igneous rock is very structurally sound (not cracking or damaged) it could be sitting pretty on top of a relatively thin pillar of softer rock, just as long as none of those eroding forces wear it down too unevenly, destabilize the connection between the two types, etc. Freezing and thawing, if there is ANY water involved, can crack massive rocks all to hell if the rock has any porosity at all, and this could bring half a giant hoodoo tumbling down. 

So! Your topping rock type would need to be:

Relatively uniform in thickness (so it doesn’t overbalance as the supporting pillar shrinks)

Very uniform in composition (so different parts of it don’t expand at different rates with temperatures changes, which would result in cracking over time)

Non-porous (so no water can get in and break it up) 

Really lucky over a long period of time (no major earthquakes, base rock is also uniform and strong, no crazy tornadoes or other winds, etc)

Is it realistic to do what you’re trying to do in a natural environment? Not especially. Can you make it sound plausible? Yeah, probably. Hardcore geologists in your readership might facepalm a little or jump with joy, depending on their love of whimsy. 

Safety concerns are definitely a major thing, but it’s up to you whether you address that. Maybe these massive hoodoos are really so stable that nobody’s worried about them toppling, but that’s not very likely in an earthlike environment. Surveying of the size/shape/composition could let scientists and architects make a reasonable guess on which ones are safer to be around than others. Perhaps there’s a fight in various city councils any time someone decides to build an attraction under one, or people shake their heads at the man who chose to build a house there, or maybe people really just don’t worry. 

If it makes you happy, then go for it. Take whatever science you like into the mix, and have fun with your result.
