I haven’t accepted a book for review in quite some time but when @oneworldpublications got in touch to see if I’d be interested in reading and reviewing The Weight Of Loss, I read the synopsis and was won over instantly. Thank you to them for my free copy in exchange for an honest review.⁣ ⁣ This is a clever, lyrical and meandering story that explores the themes of mental health, loss, grief and rehabilitation in a very interesting way. Our protagonist Marianne begins to notice long, thick black hairs protruding from her spine and even though her doctor tells her it may be her body’s physical reaction to grief, she takes up the offer of a specialised wellness retreat to help her work through her issues. ⁣ ⁣ The book then follows Marianne at the clinic and delves into her past with her sister, Marie before climaxing into a completely unanticipated ending. It blends magical realism and literary fiction together with a sprinkling of the weird and wonderful. ⁣ ⁣ I’m torn on my feelings for this book. I loved the imagery of the black hairs along Marianne’s spine and what they represented and some of my favourite moments were the relationship between Marianne and Marie, the latter of whom made me want to hug then shake them in equal measure! I felt as if I was so invested in the first half but then it lost me a little near the end. ⁣ ⁣ However, it’s clear that Sally Oliver oozes talent and I’m excited to see what she comes out with next. ⁣ ⁣ 3.5 stars 🌟 🌟 🌟 💫 #bookstagram #bookrecommendations #scottishbookstagrammer #readingandreviewing #theweightofloss #sallyoliver #upandcomingauthors #literaryfictionbooks #booksaboutgrief #oneworldpublications #storiesaboutsisters #thoughtprovokingreads #giftedbook https://www.instagram.com/p/ChsXknULtW0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Netta Wilde has a task to complete. She’s agreed to go through the late Edith Pinsent’s diaries and possessions personally. The problem is, she’s been busy sorting out her own life. But she’s in a better place now. She’s free of her manipulative ex, has a new love in neighbor, Frank and has reunited with her kids. What better time to begin Edie’s story? But the path to discovery is not easy. There are missing diaries to contend with, boxes of memories to uncover and revelations that turn everything on its head. Revelations that make Netta question if her own life really is sorted. Delving deeper into Edith’s history, Netta is overtaken by a need to revisit her own past and put things right, but to do that she has to find the two people who once meant everything to her. As her two challenges intertwine, Netta realizes that Edith had a purpose for her. One that she must fulfill. Bit by bit, the house yields a lifetime of secrets and the real Edith Pinsent begins to emerge. But will it be the Edith everyone thought they knew? Finding Edith Pinsent by by Hazel Ward Book 2, Netta Wilde series Release Date 1/10/22 by Hope St Press Women’s contemporary / Literary fiction I really enjoyed this! It's the kind of book that has you wondering about your own life! Even though this book is more about Edith's life, which I enjoyed getting a little more details into her life, I really like both of the main characters Edith and Netta! It was really easy to relate to both of them. They are just like you and me. They deal with the ups and downs of life very realistic which made this a very easy read for me! There are two different timelines but it moves between them perfectly! I wonder who the next book is going to be about! Happy reading everyone! Thank you Rachel's Random Resources and Hazel Ward for sharing this wonderful story with me! @rachelsrandomresources #Books #booktour #bookreview #bookrecommendation #read #bookstagrammer #literaryfictionbook #booklover #booknerd #lovetoread #booktours #rachelsrandomresources #authorhazelward https://www.instagram.com/p/CY_qPGDtefn/?utm_medium=tumblr

Meet Violet Collins
Meet Violet Collins, she is one of the many characters in my works in progress that I will be introducing to you over the coming weeks. She is one of two of my main characters in Project Violet and Christine.
She is a bisexual British musician and songwriter. She is a vocalist, songwriter, lead guitarist and founder of The Rebellion, an all-girl rock group active in London in the 1970s. She is the girlfriend and primary love interest of Christine Thompson, the band's lead singer. She was born in a lower-class borough of London and started the band, The Rebellion when she was sixteen years old. She has a firecracker of a personality and is never afraid to speak her mind and is unapologetically herself

My Collection of Historical Images for Project Violet and Christine
Below are a fraction of the images that I have started collecting to help me to better write Project Violet and Christine, my queer stand alone literary fiction book set in 1970′s and 1980′s London. I often find myself collecting historical images like these to help me better understand the time period that I am writing in as well as the aesthetic of the book and to better get into the minds of my characters.

A Snippet from Project Marilyn-Elizabeth #2
I was four when my parents left. Four, old enough to understand that I would never see them again, old enough to know that they would never come back for me, old enough to know that the home that they had built was gone forever but too young to understand why they had left me, too young to understand what revenge was,  too young to understand what suicide was or why people did it, too young to understand why no one knew whether my parents had died by chose or had been murdered, too young to understand why parents would want to leave me.

Teaser Tuesday #1 Project Marilyn-Elizabeth
We were avoiding the subject, I would be eighteen soon, the same age my mother was when she moved from California to London, the same age my mother was when she met my father, the same age she was when she fell pregnant with me, only four years younger than she was when she died, or was murdered.

Project Marilyn-Elizabeth
Project Marilyn-Elizabeth, my newest writing project. It is on the first draft and I am around 10,000 words into it. I started writing it at the beginning of July when I was on holiday from work and school and have been slowly writing it ever since. It is very different from my previous books. It is my first stand alone. It is a historical literary drama a multi-POV, dual timeline set in 1970's London and 1990's California, told through a combination of chapters, letters, diary entries and interviews. It features a tragic romance, a murder mystery, morally questionable characters and themes such as how fame changes a person, the pressure of growing up under the shadow of a famous family and a infamous tragedy, survivors guilt among others.

Beta Readers Wanted! For 100k Word Literary Fiction Novel
Hi everyone I am looking for beta/sensitivity readers for my 100,000 words contemporary coming-of-age literary fiction novel set in modern day Ireland.
The book is the first in a trilogy and it follows two modern-day geniuses an artist called David O’Connor and a writer called Elizabeth-Anne James a married couple who were once the greatest in the world at what they did, they were acclaimed by critics and the public alike and they were seen by the world as living a fairytale life, that is until she was institutionalized for mental illness and he was sent to rehab for his alcoholism and substance addiction.
The first book is told from Elizabeth-Anne’s POV and it tells her side of the story. It is duel timeline, the first timeline takes place in the modern day, where she has been institutionalized for her mental illness and it follows her reflecting on her life and writing her memoir. and the second follows her rise and fall from fame.
It explores themes like what is it to be a genius in the modern world, what it is to an icon and the pressures of fame.
Comparison titles are The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, Daisy Jones and The Six and The Queen’s Gambit.
My timeline is 15 August-16 September but I am lenient with this deadline.
Trigger warnings are; suicide, self-harm, substance addiction/abuse, alcoholism, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, depression, split personality disorder, institutionalization due to to mental illness

My Plans for Camp NaNoWriMo July 2022
Camp NaNoWriMo started on Friday and since I was too ill during the last Camp NaNoWriMo which happened back in April I am ready to achieve some goals and write some words.
For those of you who don't know Camp NaNoWriMo is an event that happens twice a year where authors from all around the world come together to set goals for their works in progress and work together throughout the month to achieve those goals. It is one of my favorite events of the year, I love watching the community come together to achieve their goals not to mention that I almost always get a ton of writing done.
If you have been following me for a while then you know that I love being able to work on more than one project at once because it allows me to remain motivated and so in that spirt for this month’s camp I have two goals.
The first of my goals is to write the first draft of four short stories with each story being around eight thousand words that means that I should be able to manage to write at least one short story a week.
My second goal is the complete the first draft of a secret project that I have recently started working on. My word count goal for it is forty thousand words and since it is going to be a novella that should be enough.
QOTD: Are you taking part in Camp NaNoWriMo? and if you are then what are your project(s) and what are your goals for them?
