Bryce Canyon

Wouldn’t ya know… after giving Kayla crap for being late on a throwback Thursday post, I miss the target by basically a week! *eye roll* but life just moves so quickly, and there are so many things going on it can seem like a blur. (And then you forget about blog posts) the same can be said for Bryce Canyon.

Out of the three national parks we visited and the countless things we did while in Utah, Bryce Canyon is the ones that feels the furthest away. The memories of the hoodoos seem almost like a dream. Understandable considering most of Bryce Canyon could be mistaken for an alien world. That and the thin mountain air! You spend most of your time in the park easily over 8,000 feet.

Upon arriving at the Park we made a stops to the visitor center. In my mind we were there for hours, maybe even and entire day, but in reality we were probably only there for about 20 minutes. It’s funny how my memory of the park as a whole feels so hectic and rushed but each separate portion feels like an eternity. Again, probably the thin mountain air. After we bought some souvenirs and visited a few exhibits, we were on our way to the dirt trail of the park.

We walked the rim trail from Bryce point to sunrise point. Affording is the opportunity to look out across the Canyon and see the sinking ship, Thor’s hammer and gaze down into the amphitheater. The views of, literally, countless hoodoos intermingled with natural arches offer something that can only be seen one place on earth. While natural arches and hoodoos occur all over the planet, they are most abundant in Utah. Making Bryce (hoodoos) and Arches (well… natural arches, some of the most unique places on the planet. (There is actually a hoodoo not far from my hometown, Outside of a little village named Chili. It is referred to as the Chili standing stone, or rock. And it is one of a handful of hoodoos in Ohio!)

After we took the park bus from sunrise point back to our car, we were off to the next several points and overlooks of the park. We drove to Paria View, Fairview point and natural bridge overlook. Some of which, since it was getting late, we had to speed vacation. We parked, ran to the view, tools some pictures, took a minute to breath the crisp mountain air and appreciate nature before running back to the car and driving off to the next.

My advice is to visit Bryce Canyon several times.  Or if you can only go once, plan on spending a few days there.  That will give you time to get acclimated to the elevation and make some memories that will last a lifetime.  And if you are worried about being occupied for the several days you are there, fear not, Bryce Canyon has an endless supply of amazing views and adventure than can only be found one place on earth.

PS from KayKay....I bought an "Angel's Landing" mug from Bryce Canyon which I usually drink my coffee out of before work. Angel's Landing is one of the hikes you can do that goes down into the hoodoos, which we only were able to see from above on the trails that we hiked at Bryce. Everytime I drink out of that mug I wish we were back in Utah to do one of the hikes we didn't get to do in Bryce! I can't wait to go back (obviously)
