Favorite Five Fics
I got this from linnorabeifong in December, I don't think I ever answered this.
Fic authors self rec! When you get this, reply with your favorite five fics that you've written, then pass on to at least five other writers. Let’s spread the self-love❤ 1) Memories of You - After many years of marriage, Korra notices that Asami is having issues with her memory. This story made some readers cry, at least that is what they said in the comments. 2) Truly, Madly, Deeply - the first story I wrote and published on AO3. The first chapter seemed to get many readers upset. 3) A Different Take on Korrasami - this one took a lot of time because I took the story or Korrasami and wrote it as if it was a musical including songs from Hall and Oates to fit the story. This never got much love but I was quite proud of it. 4) Love and Lights - a one-shot about Korra, Asami, and their daughter Akira. It is fluffy and cute. It began me using Akira in other fics too.
5) It Keeps You Running - a one-shot about Korra and Asami participating in 5K race.
As I said, I did not answer this message when I got it so since I just found the message again...here ya go. If you wish to read some of these, it would make my day. You can find all of them on AO3 under L2_BBOC.
Thanks, L2

wuko nation we are but a small fandom so it has been a moment since my first rec list but i wanted to give some well deserved attention to my three most recent favorite fics.
secret by sweetorangepoptart (our very own @kingwuko)
mako and wu find comfort in each other’s company following the events of guan’s election coup in gaoling. a secret relationship ensues.
duty's promise by theconsciousprince (@kingbadgermole here on tumblr)
after the events of book four, mako and wu navigate their connection in a world recovering from kuvira. not ruins of the empire compliant.
regularly scheduled miracles by thesinginghoneybee (@starshinemaiden)
the thing about soulmates when you are a royal is that you don't get to keep them. wu's mother's was shipped to the outer Ring. his father's, never spoken of. his great aunt's was imprisoned if you believe the rumors. wu believes the rumors. and when wu becomes prince wu, heir to the earth throne, over night, his chances of finding and keeping his soulmate drop to zero. But despite that, when a soulmark appears on his arm the very evening of meeting his new, hot, firebending bodyguard, wu can't feel anything but joy. the thing about soulmarks when you have a job that frequently leaves you bruised to hell and back is that sometimes you don't notice them until days later and now you don't know who caused them to appear. and the thing about being prince wu's newest bodyguard is that mako has met so many people in the last week that his soulmate could be half of republic city. the other thing about being prince wu's newest bodyguard is that half of mako doesn't want to think too hard about his soulmate might be because there is no way someone like him would get so lucky as to have the next earth monarch as a soulmate no matter how lofty mako's taste in people runs.

huge pet peeve of mine is if you kill off a beloved character in fanworks (or like. actual works if its the canon story) or even suggest it, no matter what narrative significance this might have on the story being told, you'll suddenly be flooded by a billion people being like 'NO U CANT KILL THEM THEYRE IMMORTAL THEYLL LIVE FOREVER THIS IS WRONG'

The Avatar & The Engineer
Chapter 13: Book 2: Storm on the Horizon
Artwork by @jadequarze
After an unintentional and absurd hiatus of two years, I have finally one of my longer running fics. Finally with Book 1 done it now is time to tackle Book 2.
Months have passed since the failed Equalist uprising. Team Avatar have been largely apart from one another, each trying to return to some form of normality and stability. Asami works to regain her bending abilities, Korra buries herself in work while Future Industries stagnates, Mako pursues a new career while Bolin tries to recapture old glory.
When Korra is sent home to Southern Water Tribe to broker a business deal with an eccentric millionaire, Asami and the rest of the gang decide to tag along. But Asami begins to have visions of something sinister on the horizon.
Deepest apologies for the long wait. Hopefully this chapter makes up for it and what better way than to post it on the anniversary of LOK’s finale.
As always comments and reblogs are kindly appreciated. Special thanks again to JadeQuarze for the fantastic artwork.
I hope you enjoy.

Lately I’ve just been obsessed with “person who does not understand how beloved/famous they are” and it’s been so difficult because I can’t stop thinking about it but I can’t find anything that’s close to what I want
There’s several variations I’ve been ruminating over (Avatars from atla/lok who maybe don’t comprehend how big of a deal avatars are to the average person, superheroes who don’t engage with their fan base at all, etc)
But the current one I’ve been obsessing over is “chosen one who defeated the big bad”, it’s all after they’ve fulfilled some prophecy, or maybe there wasn’t a prophecy, they were just the person who got things done, however they did it, they got rid of them, and now it’s afterwards and they’re trying to figure out what they’re doing with their life
And they’d be a huge deal, and I’ve seen some fics in some fandoms that touch on this, but none show exactly how intense I think everyone would be, not just in terms of paparazzi but just like:
things they buy influence other people to buy them, huge amounts of fan mail, could have anyone they’d want, books and stuff being based on them, people obsessively buying any merch of them, and yes people keeping up with any news stories about them, and because of who they are practically everything is considered “newsworthy”, etc etc etc
But I also want them to be so fucking oblivious to all that, like of course on some level they’d know that people are a bit intense about them, but maybe because they spent all their time gearing up to defeat the big bad and then recovering from defeating the big bad, they never found out the full extent of how much of a public figure they are
But everyone else in their life knows, and has no idea the mc doesn’t know, there’s just a communication breakdown happening there

The Sekoto Peak Tournament
It’s kinda funny how My Hero Academia is pretty much told through the lens of Midoriya’s perspective to the point where all other professions that have a fan following:  athletes, actors, singers, etc. just go completely by the wayside.  Just once, it would have been great to have Kirishima or someone mention a household name and Midoriya’s all, “…..?”
“Y’know, [insert name here?]  Legendary boxing champion?”
My point is, other professions outside of hero still exist and are probably just as popular as they’ve always been, so here’s the ‘Young Rei used to snowboard competitively’ headcanon.  This started as a piece I did for Inktober with a, ‘Rei’s a refridgerated character.  Don’t love that,’ attitude.   Because aside from finally making an attempt to fight for her family (a little late, sure, but I’m not here to do a character analysis right now,) Rei doesn’t have much characterization beyond being the victimized mother in Shouto’s story.
So two things to consider:
1.) Snowboarding is a high-intensity activity.  High intensity activities are known to reduce stress, anxiety and depression.  So Rei having this career before marriage (and possibly a little after) would have had a very positive impact on her mental health.  But after having four children, something this intense would be difficult to restart and being in her late twenties when Natsuo and Shouto were born, her professional career would have been effectively over.  Being cut off from snowboarding and its mental health benefits would have definitely contributed to her downward spiral in a more significant way than if she had never done it.  In its own way, this is also a reflection of Touya having all his energy and ambition and nowhere to put it, contributing to his own mental break.
2.) In both my Inktober post and this piece, Rei won gold and she’s wearing a different jacket, showing these were separate competitions.  Winning gold wasn’t a one-off moment; she was relatively successful and that may have served as some unspoken tension/resentment between her and Endeavor if she was one of the top competitors in her profession while her husband never made it past second place until over two decades into his.
I like the idea of this background for her.  I want to explore it further possibly as a one-shot, but I have a lot of ongoing projects right now (plus I’d need to do a little more research on how professional snowboarding competitions work,) so it’s a little up in the air whether or not an actual fic will happen.  For now, I hope you enjoy the artwork.
I also referenced Touya’s freaky smile for these, albeit not quite as intense.  He got that from someone, and my money is on Mom.  Mostly because I am entertained by the idea of a much younger Rei rocketing down a mountainside and terrifying other snowboarders with the same ecstatic, unhinged smile her son has.  And that footage probably exists online somewhere, someone in Class 1A is going to find it, and be all,  “Uh, Todoroki, I think I found a video of your mom.”
And just in case anyone asks:  Yes, that is Korra in the back.  I like to sneak crossover cameos into both my fanart and fanfics, and when thinking of characters, I remembered a behind the scenes LOK fact that Korra’s character design was partially inspired by female snowboarders.
The third snowboarder is also a cameo from a more obscure, nostalgia cartoon:  Suzy Lu from Storm Hawks.

One thing I've come to realize is that male Kataang fans don't even try to hide their hatred of Katara. They're the ones behind those dumb memes about her talking about her mother. They're the ones who ignore that she was parentified. They're the ones to try to downplay how strong of a water-bender she is. They're the ones who preferred her in LOK.
They're the ones who show the most overall contempt for Katara. But they love Kataang because the "unattractive" guy got the "hot" girl he's been pining over the whole show
anon where’s the lie?? You’re so right. Katara’s value to them is “caring pretty girlfriend” and her other characteristics — positive or negative — are just not relevant to them. Never mind her trauma or her rage or her incredible accomplishments.
Tbh, I’ve seen some female Zvkka shippers act this way about Katara too, and ofc they also ship Ka/taang. The Katara ship I see in most Zvkka fics is Ka/taang, which is unfortunate because I also like Zvkka, but that makes it harder for me to enjoy most of the content. Anyway not every woman relates to Katara, obviously, but the way some Zvkka fans aggressively distance themselves from Katara is almost weird. I mean it’s not new for a female character to be downplayed in favour of an M/M ship, but it still annoys me. My pet peeve truly is “female character gets stuck in a mediocre canon relationship bc the M/M shippers can’t be assed to give her a better partner”

ASAMI’S ANNOYANCE
I thought dealing with Raiko was a pain, but this guy is something else.
“Mr. Mayor, this discussion is getting us nowhere.  I’ve dealt with your assistants, your council members and now with you.  I have said the same thing to all of them and now I will say it to you – you can either have the upgrading of the monorail system in Ba Sing Se done correctly or done cheaply – you can’t have both.”  Asami plastered on her fake smile and stood up from the meeting table.
“Mrs. Sato, I still believe we can come to an equitable agreement.”  Mayor Won-Yee glared at Asami.  He placed both his hands on the table and leaned over it as he stood.
Asami was not intimidated in the least.  “Unfortunately, I do not.  Future Industries will not put its name on anything that is not 100% the best it can be.  The corners you wish to cut during this improvement do not fall in line with the way my company does business.  Therefore, I shall take my leave.  Good day, Sir,” with that the CEO stacked and ordered all the paper in front of her, put them into her leather briefcase, turned and left the meeting room.  Her assistant, Rei followed a respectful two steps behind her.  Rei glanced back over her shoulder to see Mayor Won-Yee looking apoplectic.
Once the two women were clear of Ba Sing Se city hall, Rei asked, “Do you wish to return to our branch office?”
Asami responded in the affirmative and they walked the three blocks back to their office.  This gave Asami time to calm down.  She knew she had been away from her wife and their daughter for too long.  The two weeks she had been in Ba Sing Se seemed like an eternity.  She was sure no three-year-old should be without their parents for that amount of time.  Asami felt defeated, a fortnight away and she had nothing to show for it.  Once she and Rei stepped back into their temporary workplace, all the employees turned to look.
Asami spoke with as gentle a tone as she could muster, “I’m sorry everyone.  There was just no way to make the Mayor’s demands work.  I wish Future Industries could have helped your city but as you know, we only manufacture the best products.  This would not have been one of them, so I left the meeting.  I’m sorry that you may be bearing the brunt of some bad press for the next few days.  I want to say that I appreciate all the work that everyone in this office put into creating the plans, blueprints, and agreements for this project.  It just wasn’t going to work for the price and demands that the Mayor made.  Rei and I will be staying one more night and we will be returning to Republic City.  If there is anything anyone wants to show me before we leave just knock on my office door after lunch.”
The employees began to clap and Asami blushed.  The middle-aged branch manager known as San said, “We know you tried hard ma’am, but no one here would disagree with you pulling out of the meeting.  Future Industries is the most forward-looking company in the world and if you don’t think the project was right, it wasn’t right.”  He walked over and shook Asami’s hand.
She and Rei entered the temporary office they had been working in.  Asami slumped into the chair.  “Rei, please make all the arrangements for our airship flight back home.  I want to get there as soon as possible.  We can leave at first light.  I’m sure the flight crew wants to get home too.”
Rei dialed the phone and within ten minutes everything was planned.
Just one more night.  Thank the spirits!!  Then home to Korra and Akari.  This trip was a monumental waste of time.
Lunchtime had come and gone and suddenly there was a knock on the office door.
Asami’s assistant called out, “Come in.”
San walked in and behind him stood a bespectacled young woman.  She couldn’t have been more than 25 years old, and her smile lit up the room.  San introduced his co-worker, “Mrs. Sato, this is Kira Blanchard and she has been working on, what I think, is a million yuan idea.”
Kira stepped forward and shook Asami’s hand.  “It’s a pleasure to meet you, ma’am.”
“I guess I need to say it again.  It’s Asami.  That goes for both of you,” she said with a wink.  “So, what’s the idea?”
“I’ve been designing and experimenting with electronics ever since I graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering from university and this, I think, may revolutionize the industry.  We can miniaturize radios!!  With the work the company has already done on circuit boards and transistors, Future Industries can make radios portable.”  She handed the blueprints to Asami.
Asami was astonished.  She stared at the papers in disbelief.  “That’s amazing!! And astounding!!  And awesome!!”
Kira continued, “There are still a few bugs to work out, but I think I can complete this project and have a working prototype within 6 weeks.”
“It certainly is more than a million-yuan idea.  Make sure nothing about this gets out to the public.  We’ll make this portable radio the next big thing, after all, we’re called Future Industries, not present industries.  Well done to both of you.  When the prototype is complete and working get yourselves to head office.  I will inform the Board of Directors about this.  I am so glad that the two weeks I spent in Ba Sing Se wasn’t a complete bust.”
The day ended on a high note and Asami could barely sleep that night.  Not only because of the new radio design but also because she was going home to see her wife and daughter.  The only thing that upset her the next morning was when she saw the newest edition of the Ba Sing Se Bulletin, the largest newspaper in the city.  The headline screamed, Cabbage Corps to Upgrade Our Monorail.  Asami just shook her head.  Whatever!! She thought.
With the flight time and the time changes, the CEO knew she would get home in the middle of the afternoon.  She pulled her Satomobile into the garage and stepped into the mansion.  It was quiet, almost too quiet.  Asami went looking for Korra and Akira, whose nickname was Lights.  They weren’t on the first floor, so she headed upstairs.  She walked past Light’s room, and it was empty.  Then she peaked into the master bedroom.  She couldn’t help but smile as both Korra and Light’s were partaking in an afternoon nap.  They were covered under a duvet.   Asami toed off her shoes and removed her jacket.  She calmly crawled in beside her daughter and reached over to touch her wife.  Korra awoke and seeing the love of her life just smiled.
“Lights wouldn’t go down alone and who am I to refuse a nap,” Korra’s eyes twinkled.
“I won’t refuse this nap either so …sssshhhh.  Let’s not wake her up.”
“How’d it go in Ba Sing Se?”
“I’ll tell you later.”
“Love you. I’m glad you’re home.”
“Love you too and I’m glad too.”  Asami’s frustration forgotten.  The warmth in her chest and her gratitude for her life was overwhelming.  Some tears leaked out before she fell asleep.

hello! this blog seems pretty inactive so im sorry if this is annoying, but i dont know who to ask 💀 do you!! have any fic recs? (I really really wanna see more zuko + gaang found family stuff and also anything with an azula redemption arc would be very cool but I dont know how to find good stuff since im very new to the fanbase so.. hope this is ok! (I am literally always late to fandoms it’s so sad)
also, if there’s any place, like a discord server or tumblr community where I can ask for recs, that would be very helpful to know!! the brainworms must be fed
I haven't been maintaining my queue but I'm around (well, sometimes)! And no worries, if I found asks annoying I would turn them off.
As I said last time, it's been a while since I read a lot of ATLA fic -- but I still have my old favorites! That post also has advice for finding fic recs (particularly geared towards fans of muffinlance but I think it's solid advice in general) -- unfortunately I don't know of any dedicated fic reccing community, just specific people you can follow such as @/captainkirkk and @/royaltealovingkookiness
But yeah look through my bookmarks, look through muffinlance's bookmarks, look through the bookmarks of authors whose fics you like!
Some specific recs:
[my eternal faves are all works by muffinlance and The Dragon-King's Temple -- but you probably already know about those]
The Best Path by EudociaCovert -- I know you said Zuko+gaang but my favorite found family fic is this one, which is Zuko, Jet, and Smellerbee canon divergence from "Zuko Alone". I think it's a little off the beaten path (heh) these days so I wanted to give it a shout.
close your eyes, make a wish by atleastwestoletheshow (Silverwolf329) -- canon universe gaang-bonding-with-zuko-while-fighting-together fic
definitely not suspicious at all in the least by presumenothing (justjoy) -- kinda similar to the above, more of a heist maybe
Big Damn Heroes by Damkianna -- the GAANG in SPACE!! very fun AU, good Zuko content
How It's Done by ryfkah -- the gaang forms a pro-bending team (like in LoK season 1, but you can probably read this even if you haven't seen Legend of Korra)
Tea? by thesometimeswarrior -- Iroh and Azula post-canon, start to an Azula healing arc
and it's my whole heart (weighed and measured) by agentcalliope -- another Azula post-canon fic I found interesting

Zutara-Stans aren’t real fans of Katara*
*Disclaimer: I don’t mean all fans of Zutara, I’m sure most Zutara shippers actually do like Katara. I’m talking about a very annoying, very stupid vocal minority of Zutara-stans
These Zutara Stans will preach about Zutara like it’s some kind of feminist ship that women should naturally like, whereas Kataang is somehow misogynistic because it was written by two men?
Zutara Stans aren’t real fans of Katara or even A:TLA as a whole, they only focus on Katara’s character in relation with Zuko, they think the hostile, anger, grief stricken Katara who use blood bending and was rather harsh to Sokka is the REAL Katara and that Aang is a bad person for questioning Katara and being concerned for her wellbeing if she were to kill somone, they invalidate Katara’s relationship with other characters especially Aang, a character who objectively supported character throughout the entirety of the show and whom Katara objectively had feelings for and chose to be with, but that doesn’t fit the Zutara’s agenda, so they re-write Katara’s relationship with Aang as toxic, invalidating Katara’s feelings for Aang and her compassion for him specifically which they call “emotional labor”. They invalidate Katara’s feelings and even her trauma by comparing her to a 25 year old and Aang to her 8 year old child. They have no respect for Katara’s feelings or choices.
For these people Katara’s relationship with other characters, be it Aang, Toph or even Sokka don’t matter, only Zuko. They want Zuko to be the only one who supported Katara, so they actively ignore the others’ support towards Katara, by making her this overworked girl who never speaks up for herself, who literally needs Zuko to be her Prince Charming, even though he supported her less than the others, only became friends with her recently and initially caused her the most harm out of The Gaang, that’s all irrelevant, because all that’s forgivable, people like Aang who were supportive and kind for the get-go can’t make mistakes, Zutara is clearly a feminist ship.
They completely ignore all of Katara’s accomplishments in LOK, who cares if she was the world’s greatest healer, taught the next Avatar waterbending, helped rebuild her tribe, outlawed blood bending and had a happy marriage and family. No, to these people, Katara is nothing but The Avatar’s Wife, her husband is all that defines her, her healing means nothing unless she heals Zuko, she should’ve became the Fire-Lady and becoming part of the nation that colonized her tribe, she should’ve embrace blood bending even though it was traumatizing for her because she did it in front of Zuko, she’s a baby-maker because Aang apparently forced her to have kids until he got an Airbender, despite her clearly wanting to have children. They act like her ending up with Zuko suddenly makes her story more empowering and would erase any issues they have with her character in LOK, literally making Katara’s story all about a man.
Zutara shippers like these don’t care about Katara, don’t believe their lies, they don’t appreciate Katara, the only like their self-insert of Katara who’s nothing like the three dimensional compassionate, heroic, strong woman we all know, this Katara’s story is literally built around Zuko, and even then this Zuko is super mature, empathetic and was always a good person, not the initially antagonist Zuko who is quick to anger but gradually becomes kinder and matures over time. That’s not even getting into mischaracterizing and villainizing Aang, invalidating his and Katara’s relationship. Romanticizing Zuko capturing and attacking Katara, invalidating Katara’s understandable initial hatred of Zuko and the less I say about the r@pe and sl@ve fics, the better. Long story short, screw these Zutara shippers, you know who you are, you ain’t real fans of Avatar, you aren’t real fans of Katara, just delusional moronic shippers who honestly don’t deserve to have an opinion.
Goodnight everybody. 😁

Hi! Been loving your blog and writing!
I really like your characterization and opinions of A.ang. It’s nice to read fan fic and blogs that just gets it. Down the road and back again was just *chef’s kiss*. (Also uncharted waters I’m loving! I never know what to expect and each chapter is so good)
Anyways I was wondering if you have any head cannon’s of what a K.ataang marriage would look like? For me I imagine it being it being extremely passive aggressive, also A.ang is really selfish so that definitely would hurt their marriage. It’s kind of like the opposite side of the toxic coin with M.aiko being a screaming match and in your face constantly breaking up, K.ataang would be toxic but it’s quite and they would try to save face in public. I don’t know What do you think?
I kind of touched on it in Choices and Consequences, but I picture it being a lot of Katara swallowing her feelings and being a single mother to four children. I don't believe she was ever actually in love with Aang. She may have tried to tell herself she was, but I think the only reason she ended up with Aang is because she felt like she owed him. Kataang was unhealthy on both their parts, and while I do tend to focus on Aang (because he's awful, and I will not ever stop pointing that out), I think Katara was guilty of putting him on a pedestal. She knew the Avatar would save the world, and I think that's why she ignored Aang's flaws. Everyone wanted to end the war, but for her, it was a deeply intense and personal desire, and the Avatar would be the one to deliver that. It's a lot of pressure to put on a 12 year old who grew up slow in a world without war, and she knew that. On some level, Katara was aware of how much pressure Aang was under, which is why I think she was so insistent on everyone being gentle with him, even though they didn't have that kind of time. Then when he actually did end the war (he didn't, at least not alone, but the show refused to give credit where it was due) Katara felt some sort of obligation towards him and called it love.
Katara is a smart, passionate girl, and she would've wanted a partner who would appreciate that and respect her thoughts, feelings and opinions. The glimpses of her relationship with Aang in the early comics show me that she didn't have that with him. Aang didn't respect her feelings over those of his fangirls. He ignored her discomfort, and even thanked her for understanding why he needed to connect with those girls who were being horribly disrespectful because "sharing his culture"🤮. It wasn't their treatment of her that upset him. It was them doing something that offended him personally.
Meanwhile, Katara had to swallow her own feelings and smile through it all. That's how I see their relationship going. I think Katara might have convinced herself that he respected her thoughts and opinions because he relied on her as a caregiver and he took her everywhere, but I think as he grew into his own, he would've expected her to step back and be contented to be a homemaker/broodmare while he did the important Avatar work, which is why I think Katara wasn't present in that scene in LoK where bloodbending was banned, even though she was ostensibly the only other bloodbender in the world, but Aang was front and center. It's also my theory on why when Aang was about to go all in on pushing for anti-miscegenation, instead of her telling him that it would be a bad idea because of the effects it would have on the families and communities Aang would be separating, she appealed to how it would affect him.
I don't think their marriage would be passive aggressive. I think Katara would just make herself as small as possible and do her best to keep the Avatar happy and on track because that's what she owed him. She'd have moments of acknowledging her deep unhappiness and regret, but she wouldn't dwell on it. And she would convince herself she was content to be a devoted wife and mother, and nothing else.

Hi, my name is Viktoriia, but you can call me Heldig. :3 I’m 29, she/her. I’m a translator (RUS/ENG), a writer and a bit of an artist.
✨ My main job is creating a proper visualization for different piles of data on dashboards and in various reports.
✨ I adore animation, indie-comics and games, especially old point-and-click adventure games. In general I'm a lazy weirdly joking workaholic & coffeemaniac. Versatile underdeveloped person, to sum it up. :D
✨ Fandoms I’m mostly tracking: Slayers (anime & novels), Lackadaisy, Undertale/Deltarune, Elfquest, LoL/Arcane & ATLA/LOK, but almost any animated/comic/game universe is acceptable and can suddenly grab my attention. I'm familiar with a lot of things, and the fact that I don't track what's going on in a particular fandom doesn't mean I don't like the thing itself, so, if you want to discuss something with me, you can simply ask if I've seen it. :3
✨ My blog contains my arts/writings/translations, life stories about me, my husband Andrew and my friends, and reblogs of the things I truly enjoy, including various fandom things and silly memes. Also since 2016 I mostly have been working on my own novel “Сказка Хрустальных гор” (A Tale of the Crystal Mountains) that I plan to finish and, hopefully, publish in 2024, so rarely I'll also post some stuff about the work process.

I've come to vent about my relationship with Rozin of all things. I must warn that this is NOT anti Rozin confession! There's literally nothing wrong with this ship, but...
For a long time I thought it was the only genuinely good and interesting ship out of all ATLA and LOK ships. Despite having little to no screen time, I was nevertheless hooked by Roku's and Sozin's dynamic. And how could I not? Childhood friends turned into bitter enemies with all the angst and heartbreak it entails? *chief kiss* Rozin just had that kick that other ships didn't have to me. I mean it in the nicest way possible, but everything just felt bland and boring in comparison. Most likely because I'm a drama queen who loves screwed up stuff. In my head and private notes, I would make Rozin WORSE, I would add things that didn't happen in canon, that would NEVER happen in canon, that would plunge those two into a new dark abyss I made just for them. In my head and private notes, I would make Rozin BETTER, I would give Roku and Sozin a chance to reconcile, to learn from one another, to finally have a relationship they couldn't have in canon. I would come up with crazy AUs, one of them even became a baseline for my main crossover story.
I mean it genuinely that this ship was IT for me. And it was like that for 5 years...
Until it just... Wasn't anymore.
The overall ATLA fandom, unfortunately, doesn't share my sentiment. The arts and fics and hell even meta posts that would examine Roku and Sozin's relationship was extremely rare. All those things I did with Rozin privately ? That was basically all that I had. I kid you not, Rozin felt more like a fandom joke, than an actual ship. The ship tag was clogged with the same repetitive "haha, Roku and Sozin were exes" "haha, Roku and Sozin were gay" shit. A joke that was repeated over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over. With no changes, no new punchline. It was funny the first couple of times, then it lost the punch, then it became annoying and then... those jokes became enraging. I was becoming SICK of them.
I would much rather have there be no new Rozin posts, than the ship tag being cluttered with. the. same. shitty. unfunny. repetitive. joke. At least the lack of content would motivate me to actually share the AUs and hcs I made in private. It would be a challenge, a drive. But, the fandom is dead set on seeing them as "just angsty exes, lol".
Oh, but that's not why I decided to write here. You know what I'm about to say. The upcoming Roku centric book, that, of course has scenes that are almost hand-crafted to pander to Rozin shippers.
I know I should be excited. I should be happy. My ship is finally getting attention! Getting official interaction since, what? Over a decade of NOTHING?
But, I felt nothing.
At first.
Then, when I realized that I felt nothing I felt... rage? Sadness? Despair?
I used to LOVE Rozin. What happened? I should be excited. Why am I not?
It has been 5 years of that. Of Rozin being worse than nothing. Not even a ship, but an inside joke among ATLA fans. I would've been fine if the book interactions contradicted my hcs, I would just make new ones or change the old ones a little. But, I got tired. At this point, I feel nothing for the ship. Maybe annoyance. I definitely think I don't like it now. And it's sad. It's almost tragic.
I love Roku and Sozin as characters. And I used to love shipping them, as another way to explore and study them as characters. But now, I think, I will just block Rozin tag and dismiss any ship context if I do happen to start posting my ATLA fan art again and people would ask of I shipped them or not. I don't. Not anymore. If you really want a ship content with them, well, I suppose I have my OC x Roku ship, but, I'm certain no one would be interested in that, so I'll just keep it to myself.
Sorry for the long rant. Sorry that it sounds so dramatic or pathetic. But, I feel better after writing everything here. Maybe I can finally leave this all behind.
X

This is going to seem way out of the blue, but I just got to thinking about it and since this is a very fandom social media site I figured I would share.
I've been a fan of the Legacy of Kain series for a very long time. It's one of the first fandoms I ever participated in online. I roleplayed with a bunch of other artists. Made art of their OCs and canon characters for years (sound familiar?). Never wrote any fanfiction though. The Internet was wholly different at that time. My social media was DeviantArt and GameSpot. Other than those, we got most of our fandom stuff from fanmade websites.
Watching the Doctor Who episode The Giggle today, reminded me of Blood Omen's Elzevir the Dollmaker. While trying to find gameplay of that portion of the game I was reminded of the ridiculous crack story/videos Legacy of Turelzevir: Doll Reaver that were part of The Lost Worlds fansite (great site with game scripts, concept art, mods, information about cut content and more). And that lead me back to Nosgoth.net, where I first encountered LoK fanart and fanfiction, and some of the amazing and wonderful artists I befriended on DeviantArt. The fanfiction here is some of the first I ever read and some of them were super memorable and I still think about today. The great thing is these sites are still there with all the great content that was available then. If you are a fan of the series you should definitely check out these sites and I will recommend the two fics that were most memorable to me and have probably been a big influence on the way I write fic.
Pain of Rebirth - A story covering the resurrection of the Sarafan as vampires
The Premature Gift - A what if story that takes place just before the events of Soul Reaver and creates an alternate timeline
If you guys check them out, I hope you enjoy!
