I Do...I Guess? (Part One)

The Proposal

I got a craving to replay FFX again for the first time in like ten years. To be honest, I forgot a bunch of stuff (not to mention that I never finished it in the first place.)

I’m recently engaged, and as I was playing this game, my brain kept saying ‘how would this scene be different if Yuna and Tidus were married?’

So I decided to write it.

I didn’t want to rehash the whole story completely, so it diverts a bit and I skipped some scenes that I felt would have been the same in canon. Hope you enjoy!

It felt good to laugh. Right. Like they weren’t on a mission to save the world. Like they weren’t trying to stop a hellish reincarnation of his father.

Like they were a bunch of friends, having fun on a road trip.

Yuna looked at him, eyes filled with tears from their laughter. Most of her smiles so far had been strained, or just an act. But this was joy. Pure, real joy.

His fake, psychotic laugh had echoed over Luca, and at first she couldn’t stand the absurdity of it.

But only a few minutes later, when they both frantically tried to catch their breaths, Yuna realized what she was missing.

Someone who wasn’t afraid to be a little silly. Someone who wasn’t afraid to be a little rude or wild, even in the face of propriety of Yevon.

It was a good feeling.

She smiled at him. “I like you, Tidus.”

The blunt phrase hit him like a bullet, straight to his heart. “I uh uh...like you too?” And he did. Maybe a little too much for the comfort of his fellow guardians. But getting Yuna’s approval felt good at least. It was nice to know she liked him, and she wasn’t just tolerating him as Wakka’s lost duckling.

Well, she had agreed to make him a guardian, hadn’t she? That had to count for something.

She nodded once, a determined look on her face. “Wait here a second, okay?”

“Oooookay?”

She walked over to where the others were standing, watching with faces of confusion and mild horror.

“What?” Called Tidus.

“We were just wondering if you two had finally lost it!” Wakka called back.

Tidus didn’t get a chance to reply as Yuna beckoned Wakka into a huddle with the others.

She talked too softly for him to hear, back to him, and hands held tightly to her chest. No indication of what this was all about.

But they all gasped together, obviously shocked at something she had to say.

Something about him? What? Did she want to make him super guardian or something? Did he get promoted already?

Each and every guardian took a second to look at him, eyes narrowed in a glare of scrutiny.

Aw crap. What did he do wrong this time?

They all seemed to come to an agreement, as they nodded solemnly.

When Yuna returned, her face was red, and her eyes wouldn’t meet his.

“Yuna?”

“I would...like to ask you something.”

“Shoot.”

“It may be sudden, and a little strange...”

“As has my whole journey been so far. Nothing new for me.”

“Well...if it’s not too much...I’d like to ask you...to marry me.”

“M-m-marry?!” He stuttered, taking a full step back. “Wh-what? How? Why?!”

“You can say no!” She insisted. “It’s just that...summoners typically have a family, or a next of kin. My parents are gone, and I have no siblings. Lulu, Wakka, and Kimahri feel like siblings to me, but in the eyes of Yevon, they’re only friends. I’d like to...take you as my husband. Officially.”

“That...makes sense...but why me?”

Her face turned redder. “I told you I liked you...”

“I didn’t know you meant it that way.”

Yuna looked ready to cry. “You can still say no. And nothing will change! You can still be my guardian. It’s just that...the temples get really touchy about guardians of the opposite sex staying in the same room with the summoner if they aren’t related or married. Lulu thinks it would be safer...” she covered her mouth. “I’m sorry! I don’t want to pressure you! This is up to you, and I don’t want to twist your arm!”

Tidus laughed. Not at her, of course, just the situation in general. It was a hollow laugh, one that betrayed how he felt.

She blushed again, this time in embarrassment. “It’s not a joke...”

Tidus took a deep breath. “No, it’s not. I’m sorry, I was just...a little shocked. Are you sure? I mean, I’m trying to get back to Zanarkand. If you don’t think I will ever get there, and so you’re taking a chance on me...”

She shook her head. “I don’t know if you’ll go back. If you do, I’d like to go with you.” She bit her lip and looked away from him. “Truth is...I haven’t ever felt this way about someone before. I felt it the day we met, too. And it’s only grown stronger every time you made me laugh.” She bravely met his eyes. “I don’t know what the future holds for us. But this is something I can control. Something that I can choose. And I choose you. If you’ll have me.”

Tidus scratched his head, torn. Yuna was amazing. Wonderful, beautiful, sweet, and kind. Not to mention wickedly talented as a summoner.

But Sin. His father. Zanarkand. Would she still pick him if she knew?

“This is your decision,” said Auron. “It doesn’t need to be rushed.”

“The next temple is Djose,” added Wakka. “It’s a ways away. But you have until then to decide. That’s the soonest we can get someone to perform the ceremony.”

Yuna looked small. Smaller than he had ever seen her before. And it was his fault. “Hey,” he said, grasping her shoulder. “My hesitation isn’t because of you.”

She looked at him, hope in her eyes.

“I do like you. Kind of like you said you liked me. I noticed it a while ago, but didn’t think it was...wise to entertain it. Any man would be lucky to take you as a...wife.” He struggled with the word. “But, I just need a little time to think. I want to do what’s right. I don’t want to be a hindrance on your pilgrimage.”

“Oh you won’t be!” Yuna insisted.

“Yuna,” Auron stepped in. “What if...you beat Sin, and he goes back home? Would your marriage matter?”

Yuna was quiet a moment. “I always wanted to be a summoner. Ever since I was a child. Just like my father. Marriage was a pipe dream. I know I won’t get that domestic life that everyone dreams about. But if I could entertain it, for a little while, I think it would be worth it.”

“Who said you can’t have domestic bliss?” Asked Tidus. “Say I agree. You defeat Sin. I don’t go home. Then what? We bask in the glory of your success and return to Besaid. Or wherever you want to settle.”

Everyone was silent, not making eye contact.

“I mean, I have faith that we can beat Sin. I’m just saying that fantasizing about the future could be fun.”

Lulu spoke up. “Perhaps it’s best if you thought things over. We understand where Yuna is coming from. If you want to talk things through a little more, just ask.”

Auron nodded. “But we can talk on the road. We should get going.”

All talk of betrothal behind them for now, the group ascended the stairs and stepped onto the plains.

Everyone moved on, the air a mixture of tense silence and feigned normalcy.

Tidus hung in the back, away from Yuna, feeling like the scum of the earth.

Auron walked beside him, that mysterious quiet following him.

“I messed up, didn’t I?”

“She sprung that proposal on all of us. Your reaction was normal.”

“What am I supposed to do? You know what’s going on better than anyone else. What with...Jecht and Sin. You told me not to tell her. So what’s the right thing to do?”

“Yuna cares deeply for you. I knew it the moment I saw you together.”

“Oh, like you’re some sort of love expert?”

“Not a bit. But Yuna is easy to read.”

“Yeah...she is.”

“And you didn’t notice?”

“It’s different when it’s you, you know?”

“You’re just oblivious.”

“Am not!”

“And immature. Definitely not marriage material.”

“Now you’re just being mean.”

“You’re just being sensitive.”

“Rude.”

They fell into silence then, just following Wakka and Lulu’s lead.

“Tidus.” He spoke softly.

“Hm?”

“Yuna is Lord Braska’s daughter.”

“Correct.”

“The honor of defeating Sin would make her a legend. That honor is something she’s willing to share with you.”

“I mean, I was planning on helping her anyway. I don’t need the glory.”

“Then I anticipate you’re a lot less selfish then some other men in this world.”

“I...don’t follow.”

Auron exhaled, patiently rewording his explanation. “If you don’t wed her, there’s a chance someone else would try to do so. And they might not be in it for the right reasons.”

“...so, you’re saying I should say yes?”

“You wanted guidance. Isn’t that why you’re walking so far back?”

“I do want guidance. I’ve only been in Spira for a week, and I’ve already been proposed to. How’s a guy supposed to handle that?”

He sighed. “I don’t want to screw things up for Yuna. I want to help, but if everything that I am...if what he is makes everything wrong...and it’s too late to back out, I would feel awful.”

“Sin’s identity won’t matter. None of this will matter in the end.”

“In the end?”

“Once she calls the Final Aeon. Her pilgrimage is over, and it won’t matter. Being married to you, whether you stay on Spira or not, is irrelevant.”

“If I do go back in the end, will Yuna be able to marry again? Is that legal here? Dumb question, I know...”

“It’s legal. But she probably won’t.”

“And she’s okay with that?”

“Yuna knows all the consequences of her decisions. She may be naïve and hopeful, but she isn’t ignorant.”

Before the conversation could progress, there was a growl from the tall grass before a wolf fiend leapt from its hiding place, and the guardians fell into battle.

Next on the chopping block was Wakka.

Or rather, he was the chopper, and Tidus the choppee.

He grabbed Tidus by the head, forcing his face into his armpit and nooging his head. “I told you not to go getting any ideas!”

Tidus nearly puked, but broke out of the grapple before he could die. “And I told you no promises!” He wiped his face with his sleeve. “It’s not my fault I’m ridiculously charming.”

Wakka huffed, “‘Ridiculously charming’ yeah right. I saw you talking on the boat. You were flirting with her!”

“If being nice and talking to her is flirting here, then I don’t want to know what my actual flirting game looks like in your eyes.”

Wakka rubbed the back of his head. “I should have seen this coming. Yuna doesn’t know a lot of boys her age. It was only a matter of time before she got a crush on you.”

“So because I’m her age, and around, she was bound to like me? Is that what you’re saying? Really?”

“...you’re right. That makes Yuna sound shallow. Still...I wish it hadn’t been you.”

“Wow, thanks a lot man. Didn’t know you had such a poor opinion of me.”

Wakka groaned loudly, catching the attention of everyone else. He waved them on, and pulled Tidus back a little further. “You’re cool, dude. Honest. I just...do you remember the story of Lady Yunalesca and Lord Zaon?”

“No.”

“Well, Lady Yunalesca is the first summoner to ever defeat Sin. And she did it with her guardian, her lover and husband Lord Zaon at her side. It’s a love story that everyone fantasizes about having one day. Yuna has the capabilities to be just like Lady Yunalesca. But you...you’re no Lord Zaon.”

“So? Maybe a Lord Zaon isn’t what she needs.”

“What she needs is someone to support her. Someone who knows what’s going on, who doesn’t need her to hold their hand and explain everything to. I’m really not trying to be mean, brother, but that Sin toxin messing with your head is a major point against you.”

Tidus understood exactly what he was talking about. He had gotten in plenty of hot water with people when he flubbed up some religious practice. Even simple questions were treated like heresy.

If you couldn’t ask questions about your faith, and you just followed what everyone said, was it even your own belief? Or just blind obedience? That was something that was nagging him about Yevon. And maybe that was an indication that he would just be trouble for Yuna.

“Yuna needs a strong, smart, level headed pillar…not a doofus.”

“I’m not that big of a doofus.” Tidus scuffed his boot against the ground. “But I get it. My ignorance is a boo-boo.”

“Other than that, I’ve got no complaints!” Wakka protested. “You’re nice, make some really great jokes, you’re a decent fighter and only getting better…”

“What, you put me down only so you can butter me up? Pick a mood, man!”

“Sorry, sorry, I just…was surprised. When she proposed. I understand why, I’m just…”

“I get it. And now I know your opinion on the matter.”

“What did Sir Auron say?”

Tidus shrugged. “Danced around the topic. Made some good points, but ultimately decided it didn’t matter.”

“It doesn’t matter?”

“Probably as long as Yuna continues her pilgrimage, he doesn’t care about her love life. I’m definitely not going to try to stop her. She has an amazing goal ahead of her.”

“Yeah…” Wakka shrugged. “It’s a little terrifying too. Exciting to be a part of it, but...”

“Daunting.” He finished for him.

“Yeah. That’s a good word for it.” He rubbed his shoulders. “Anyways, if you do decide to take Yuna up on her offer, there won’t be any hard feelings, okay? Yuna makes her decisions, and she’s put this one in your hands. I can’t stop her or you.”

“But if you could?”

“I already told her what I told you.”

“You told her I was a doofus?”

“More or less.”

“Thanks.”

“She still proposed. My guess is she already knew.”

“She’s at least kind enough not to say it to my face.”

Wakka chuckled. “She’s too nice for her own good.”

“Can I say something and you not get mad at me?”

“No guarantees.”

Tidus chuckled. “Remember when we were in Kilika and Dona was there, and saying all that crap, and Yuna very politely but firmly told her to move on?”

“Yeah?”

“It was extremely hot.”

Wakka barked a laugh. “Glad to know you like a woman being stern with you.”

Tidus shrugged. “Maybe. Back in Zanarkand, I had a lot of girls doing whatever they could to get with me. It got really annoying after a while.”

“Oh, Mr. Hotshot blitzball player, star of the Zanarkand Abes! Player and most beloved bachelor, ya? Sounds like a real delusion. You must have inhaled a lot of that toxin.”

“Yeah,” Tidus scoffed. “About a thousand years worth. I thought you were starting to believe me?”

“I was, but then you started talking about your groupies and now I’m not so sure.”

“Look, if you’re not going to be helpful, then I might as well go talk to someone else.” He spotted the next closest guardian and spoke a little louder. “Hey Kimahri!”

The Ronso glanced at him, eyes narrowed in that stoic way he always was.

“I was wondering, what’s your opinion on Yuna’s proposal? Should I say yes?”

Kimahri lowered his head in thought, but only for a moment, before raising a large paw and whacking Tidus on the back, like you would a friend.

Then he walked away.

“What was that supposed to mean?”

Wakka chuckled. “I think it’s free for interpretation.”

They came across many people on the Mi'ihen Highroad. An old scholar with the dustiest voice he’d ever heard, an acolyte of Yevon named Sholanda—Shinda? Shish Kabob—Tidus could never keep these people’s names straight. A thousand years is plenty of time for words to evolve.

And then there was Belgemine. A summoner, and a nice one, for once. A breath of fresh air compared to Dona.

Yuna accepted the friendly spar, grateful for the chance to learn and grow. The guardians stepped back, and offered plenty of room for the magic storm that was to unfold.

Belgemine had a new aeon to Tidus. A werewolf on fire, with nasty horns and claws.

This must be the aeon from Kilika, though he didn’t hear what name Yuna gave hers.

‘Hot Dog’ would have to do.

Yuna raised her staff, and drew it back like the bow on a cello. The glyph appeared, and the summoning began.

It was just as awe inspiring as the first time he had seen ‘Big Bird’ in Besaid, and every time after. Each direction she gave her aeon was lethal to any man or fiend, but Belgemine’s aeon took hit after hit.

He wanted to cheer, if he hadn’t been too entranced by all the sparking lights.

“Your mouth is open,” commented Lulu, dryly.

He snapped it shut. “Oh. Yeah...I just can’t get over how cool these summons are. Yuna’s so talented.”

“Her prayers are strong. The Fayth hears them, and the aeon reflects that strength. The more resolve, the more powerful the aeon.”

“So Yuna is really determined to fight Sin, huh?”

“Personally, I believe that she thinks she has no other option. She is her father’s daughter. What would anyone else expect of her?”

“Kinda crappy on their part. Yuna has more merit than just who her dad is.”

“To you and I, of course. But to the rest of Spira, a bunch of strangers, she’s a beacon of hope.”

Tidus considered that a moment, hearing the phrase repeated time and time again. He wondered who they were trying to convince.

“Would Yuna taking a husband blot out that beacon?”

It was Lulu’s turn to be silent, as Yuna’s aeon created a burst of light and Belgemine’s dog turned into pyreflies.

“Yuna’s journey will not be easy. Yevon demands their summoners to never show sorrow or worry, but she is still young. She could use someone to share the burden with.”

“So...is that a yes? I should take Yuna up on the proposal?”

“I’m still trying to rationalize it out.” She said honestly. But the coldness in which she usually answered his dumb questions with was absent. “As a woman, who had loved and lost, there is something so simple and innocent as wanting to find your Prince Charming and live happily ever after. Not many do. The uncertainty of life on Spira doesn’t allow much for waiting and hoping.”

“So this is pretty normal? Knowing someone for a week and then proposing?”

“For some. For Chappu and I, we thought we had plenty of time. We were both accomplished fighters, and we were sensible. There was no reason to rush. I don’t like having regrets, or wondering what things would have been different if I had made another choice. The past is the past. But, other people might have the right idea in rushing.”

“So...yes?”

“Are you that eager?” She smirked.

“I don’t know! I never thought about getting married. I thought, hey, someday, if I meet the right girl...I didn’t exactly have a great example of domestic bliss in my own life. But it was something to think about when I was older. Now was for partying, flirting with the cute fans, getting my game right!” He sighed. “At least it was, until I came here. Now it’s surviving, and being prepared to take the hit for her. I...don’t even want to play blitzball anymore.”

“So you’ve talked to the others?”

“Yeah. Got a hard no, a vague back pat, and a ‘it doesn’t matter.’”

She scoffed. “Men. Well? What do you want? Yuna gave you the choice.”

“But do I choose what I want, or what’s right?”

“They aren’t the same answer?”

“I...honestly don’t know.”

They arrived at the Al Bhed inn in the evening when the sun was still high. Tidus found it greatly satisfying to see Auron not putting up with the blatant racism from Wakka, and they took out rooms for the night. One cramped room for the guys, and one for the girls.

How would that work if he and Yuna got married? Would Lulu still stay in the room? Would she get one of her own?

It was crazy that he was even thinking about it. This wasn’t the kind of person he was. How many marriage proposals did he get daily from random girls back in Zanarkand? Dozens.

And how often did he entertain the idea of agreeing? Not once. Sure, he soaked in the thrill and flattery of it all, but not one of those girls had made him consider taking a vow.

So what was it with Yuna? He’d known her a little over a week, and most of that week was met with hostile glances from the other guardians.

But she was so easy to want to protect, to want to talk to, and to be around.

And maybe, even easy to lo—

Mm, maybe he wasn’t there yet. He definitely liked her though. But marriage!?

Sleep didn’t come easy. He was certainly physically tired, after saving Yuna from being kidnapped that morning, playing a game of Blitz, and the fight with all the fiends after…

But his mind was a wreck. For a little bit, he thought he might have had a dream—or rather, a nightmare. His old man, huge and bloated and horrible, writhing like the monster he had seen as Sin. Yuna stood near, her blue eye filled with ice, her green with fire. And she stared right at him, face unreadable with the neutral, emotionless summoner facade she always had to wear.

“You would have your wife kill your father? How could you be so cruel?”

And then he woke up.

Auron was gone, though Wakka and Kimahri were asleep on the other side of the room. After that disturbing vision, he doubted he would be getting any sort of sleep for a while. So he rose, and went outside to see if he could find Auron.

The sun was setting. Auron stood just outside the Inn, watching Yuna who sat in the grass, cliff side.

They hadn’t talked since the proposal. Things were too awkward, and he still didn’t have an answer for her.

It seemed like Auron didn’t care, as he shoved him forward.

Tidus pinwheeled before he could fall on his face, though the sound caught Yuna’s attention and she turned to look at him.

“Uh--howdy?”

She smiled at him. “Couldn’t sleep either?”

“Nah, not really. Can I join you?”

She patted the grass beside her, and he sat carefully, keeping a little distance between them.

Several moments passed in silence as Yuna stared out at the sunset. “It’s so pretty.”

“Yeah. Real peaceful.”

“I’d love to live in a place like this…someday. Someplace where everything seems calm and beautiful.”

“It’s much different from back home.”

“Yeah?”

“Yeah…my Zanarkand never sleeps…or slept. People coming and going all night long, businesses open all the time, lights replacing the moon and stars. It was a different kind of beauty.”

“I’d like to see it. At least once.”

“Maybe you will. Who knows?”

“Yeah…who knows?”

They sat in silence, that was not unpleasant, for a few minutes, before Tidus began, awkwardly. “I’ve been thinking about your proposal. I don’t have an answer for you yet. And for that, I’m really sorry.”

She shook her head. “Don’t be. I sprung it on you. Feel free to think things through.”

“Thank you. I was telling Lulu…back home, marriage wasn’t even in the realm of possibilities. It was all partying and Blitzball. Since coming here, I’ve had to reframe my mind.”

She suddenly gasped. “I didn’t even think to ask you! You don’t have a girl waiting for you back in Zanarkand, do you?”

He groaned, but then laughed. “I mean, I guess I did. But I probably would have broken up with her when I got back anyway.”

“I’m so sorry! Did you love her?”

He shook his head. “Janni was…a girl I was in school with. She asked me out. Or, she declared that we were now dating. This was before I went pro with Blitzball, when I was just playing with my school. I was shy and nervous, and when she asked me out, I was like, ‘yeah sure! I’ll date a pretty girl!’” He huffed. “She was a whirlwind of dysfunction. Not that I come from a wholesome family, but…she would always play these mind games with me. When I first went pro, she was excited for me, but then quickly turned around and said I wasn’t paying enough attention to her. Then when I would try to do nice things for her, she would claim I was being too clingy.”

“She sounds fickle,” Yuna said, with her mouth scrunched up.

“There was a phrase where I come from, that goes: ‘don’t stick your dick in crazy’.”

Yuna blushed. “They speak about sex so openly in Zanarkand?”

“Depending on the company you keep. Anyways, I never slept with her, even though I know she wanted to, just because I got this sinking feeling that something bad would happen if I did. So, she would often break up with me, and go see another man. Then when that didn’t work out, she came back and demanded that we were together again.”

“And you just went with it?”

“Yeah. It’s pretty dumb...we were both immature, and I made plenty of mistakes too, but I just felt like I had invested so much time with her already, that refusing her would have made all of that a waste.”

Yuna sniffed slightly as her lip trembled. “That’s so awful.”

“I’m sorry! I shouldn’t have brought her up! I know you said you liked me...”

She shook her head. “That’s not it. I’m heartbroken that someone would take advantage of you like that. That she just...assumed you’d be waiting for her, so she could fool around! That’s cruel!”

He sighed. “I don’t know why, but hearing you say that makes me feel a lot better.”

“Tidus, you deserve to be loved and cherished.” She said it so seriously, he felt it in his chest. It made it hard to swallow.

“Thank you, Yuna. You do too, you know?”

She just gave him a soft smile and returned her gaze to the rapidly disappearing sun.

Sarcastic StarBharat Reviews-Episode 19: In which there’s more lotus melodrama and a lot of obstacle-themed talk.

Since the StarBharat writers are so fixated with associating Mr. Glitterwash with the lotus, I gave in to a curious impulse and searched its symbolism. Apparently, it stands for beauty and rebirth. Honestly, you need to go give THIS guy that symbolism? He ain’t any of that! Addition, credited to @ambitiousandcunning: The lotus symbolism is actually credited to Draupadi in canon, what with the ‘blue lotus fragrance’ et al. And Arjun and Krishna are ‘lotus-eyed’. Seriously, they’re stealing the symbolism of the three Krishnas and giving it to…Glitterwash. Yuck. Anyway, back to the task at hand. The review. The episode begins where the last one had ended. Just as Kunti is looking around, Glitterwash ducks out of sight to the Suryadev Sogaye BGM. The scene cuts to Adhiratha and Glitterwash. Glitterwash is being stopped by Adhiratha. “Let me go, Pitashree!” “I told you to stop.” “Pitashree, I want to go welcome them.” Okay…I think this is an extension of canon fail #40. This whole swagat scene is non-canon, I think. “Fool! Who told you to do this?” asks Adhiratha. “Why, didn’t you like it? I was only wanting to gladden the King.” “Gladden him? By fighting with him?” What? “You are better than any other Kshatriya in archery…” Wait. NO. NOPE. Just NOPE. He couldn’t defeat a kid at least a decade younger than him when he was older than this, you want me to believe he’s better than adults at this point? Sorry, I’m terrible at willful suspension of disbelief. When it comes to this git, anyway. I’m adding a canon fail. Canon fail #41. Also, I am skipping this dialogue, for the sake of my Mac. The gist is that the King will be angry that a Suta boy is better than Kshatriyas. (NOPE. I’ll keep repeating this, in your face, over and over) Glitterwash says that the King is not like that. He asks his father to look at the Queen, at the love on her face. What? IDK how you can see love on someone’s face from side profile, that too from the back. The camera switches to the tribal archers kneeling. Honey boy is hailed. Vidur moves the chariot forward as Glitterwash tries to reach them to the tune of sad music. Scene switches to Mr. Annoying Poseur. “Four!” he says, dramatically moving a piece four paces. “Obstacles keep coming, but those who know how to cross them are never defeated.” “Some obstacles cannot be crossed, Shakuni,” says (who else?) Drama Queen. “They are the ties of fate,” He exhibits his immense ocular control once more. “Yes, Maharaj. You have said the truth. Some obstacles are ties of fate. Sanjay, now tell me, the obstacle in front of you, how can that be crossed?” “Well, if the dice drops 6, it will break.” “That is, dice can break your ties of fate, Sanjay,” Sanjay throws the dice, it drops on 4. “You have to form a friendship with dice,” says Poseur. “I am talking about life here, not dice!” says Drama Queen. “Life!” exclaims Poseur, laughing that annoying laugh of his. “I am also speaking of life, Maharaj. Our enemies walk on two legs, but we mistake them for human.” Drama Queen has had enough. “What are you talking about, Shakuni?” “Kumar Pandu, who has just gotten married. We’ll have to go to welcome them, won’t we?” Scene switches to Pandu and Kunti’s chariot galloping up the entryway to the palace. “Sister,” says Ambalika. “Has Gandhari not come yet?” “Sukhda said that Dhritrashtra commanded Gandhari not to welcome the newlyweds.” “But, Gandhari should be the one to welcome them, sister.” “Ambalika, the Rajguru’s wife welcomed Gandhari,” says Satyavati. “That was because no other wedded woman is there in the family. But when there is a wedded woman in the family and the aarathi is done by someone else, won’t that be ill luck?” “I won’t let anyone in the family be beset by ill luck, choti mata,” says Gandhari, who enters to the tune of triumphant music just as Pandu and Kunti are ascending the stairs to the Palace. After the obligatory pranipaats, Gandhari does the aarti. “Bhabhishree,” says Honey boy, “My wife wants to touch your feet, please bless her.” “What aashirvaad shall I give you, Kunti? You already have luck, children, youth and fame.” “Bless her that her wishes come true without any obstacles.” Scene switches to Annoying Poseur again. “Recognize the obstacles, Maharaj, and keeping throwing the dice. All obstacles will be dust.” Scene switches to the ladies blessing Ms. Melodrama and Honey Boy. “You are telling the truth, Matashree. Obstacles are actually removed through blessings,” Ms. Melodrama touches Ms. Always Patnidharma’s feet. “Where is Jyeshth Bhraata?” asks Honey Boy to Vidur. “His anger isn’t calmed yet?” Vidur gives a slight smile and a nod. Scene switches to a temple-like structure in a glade. “Kunti,” says Ms. Always Patnidharma, “In this temple only all the brides of the family place their preferred Gods’ statues. Give your idol to the Acharya for the safeguarding of your soul.” She obliges, the idol is placed, and all three women (Gandhari, Kunti and Sukhda) pray for a moment. “Jiji?” says Ms. Melodrama. “I have been blessed by everyone except Jyeshthshree, and nor have I seen him yet. Coming from Kuntirashtra to Hastina, my husband was talking about him only. His courage, his generosity, his love towards my husband. He said that if I get Jyesth’s aashirwaad then I won’t require God’s blessings. I don’t know if I have the right to say this or not, please forgive me, but, jiji, what I have heard in Kuntinagar has tensed me. Even if a new house is not decorated, it’s no issue, but if there’s a thorn in the garden, it’s not good.” she says. (Is there a thing in this family that the first-born sons are serious assholes? I mean, see Dhritrashtra, Yudigit and then Duryodhan). “There is no thorn in this garden, Kunti. Your Jyeshth has such a large heart that his brothers and their wives will definitely have a place in his heart. If you have heard that there is a fight between them, then it is untrue.” (Okay, how did she tell that whopper of a lie with a straight face?) “Some cunning fellow must have said it to you. Your Jyeshth Bhraata loves Pandu more than anything. If there is a fight between love and revenge, then love alone will triumph.” “Revenge alone will triumph!” says Poseur. “A Kshatriya fights, Shakuni, he does not use trickery.” “War!” says Poseur, laughing. “Revenge is also war, played with the brain. Do not misunderstand trickery. Those who are harmed by our doing call it trickery. Those who benefit from it call it a plan. In the game of life, Pandu has won by making the right moves. In my heart, too, there is only hate towards Pandu. But now, calming my mind, by driving away anger, we need to start a new game and defeat Pandu.” Drama Queen stabs the game board with a knife. Poseur preens. “Alert! The Maharaj Pandu is coming!” Honey Boy enters with Vidur. Poseur congratulates Honey Boy, saying that his victory in Kunti’s Swayamvar has gladdened Drama Queen and he said that Pandu can never lose. “Pranipaat, Jyeshth,” says Honey Boy. “Kunti and I are waiting for your blessings.” “I am at fault for the fact that my sister’s husband couldn’t come,” says Poseur. “He was saying again and again that you would have returned but I kept enticing him with one final game, then we’ll go.” “I have also heard that you have a lot of love for dice, Kumar,” says Honey Boy. He titters again. “Love! Consider them my wives, Maharaj,” he says. “My very obedient wives,” “Jyeshth, Kunti wanted to come her to take your blessings, with your leave, may I bring her.” “Yes, yes,” says Drama Queen. “No, no!” exclaims Poseur. “No, we should only go to congratulate her. It is her right that all should go to her to wish her. Maharaj, I request you to allow my sister’s husband to bless the Queen tomorrow morning. As we don’t have a present to give her. We have to give her a present, after all, because the person who should be blessed is both his daughter-in-law and also the Queen of Hastina.” “Alright. We will come to get your blessings tomorrow at dawn, Jyeshth,” says Honey Boy. “Certainly.” Honey Boy does a pranipaat and leaves. “You did well by saying that ‘certainly’ in the end, Maharaj,” says Poseur to sinister music. “It seems you have also started to understand the game of dice.” He titters. Uh-oh. Peacock feather. Skip. Mega Skip. This one is about taking decisions. Kunti enters her chambers and sees lotuses in the pond nearby. She picks one of them but is distracted by the sight of the black string on her hand. (Side note: Why the hell do these married ladies wear such big-ass necklaces in this show? I mean, it nearly came to her navel!) She flashes back to her friend saying that if a lie is spoken for personal gain, it is betrayal, but if it is spoken for saving oneself, it is not a betrayal, as long as this string is on your wrist, do not say anything to your husband about your past. “I will not start my life with a lie,” says Ms. Melodrama. Canon fail #42, I’d say, as there is no indication of Kunti ever almost telling the truth to Pandu in canon. “I will tell my husband about my past, even though I could not tell him about it on our journey. We were not alone. But today, as soon as he comes, the first thing I’ll do is talk about my past.” Scene changes to someone clanging a hammer on a chariot wheel. It’s Adhiratha. “Husband” says Radha, “Seeing Karn’s archery, how happy the King and the Queen were!” Extension of canon fail no. #41, y’all. I will point out every single canon fail committed by the depiction of Glitterwash. “Yes, they were moved. But if they knew whose son he is, this very emotion would have changed to anger, Radha. You know that Sutas have the right to steer a chariot, not fire arrows.” (Okay…I daresay the Kuru society might have been a bit orthodox, but no one bats an eye when Glitterwash studies with the Princes…yeah, Dron is casteist, but neither did Glitterwash actually pass the test for the Brahmastra) “But why, Pitashree? You only said that things done with perfection are always respected.” “Do not debate, Karn. When a man does his job perfectly, he is respected. If he does others’ work, only bitterness and competition arises.” “Husband, are you meaning to say that the King would compete with him?” “Not the King, but the Kshatriyas of the nation. It will ruin our lives.” “I think the King will be happy and felicitate it. And you only say that the man who protects those who excel is the true King.” “You are still debating, Karn! I am saying again and again that this is a question of our family’s safety. Not just us, but the whole society, and you’re still stubborn? Fine, do it. Here’s an arrow. Let the whole world know that a Suta who can defeat Kshatriyas has been born in Hastina. Whatever happens to me and your mother, we’ll suffer through it. Lift the bow and arrow. Go.” Uh..NO. NOPE. For one, Kichak is a Suta, and he defeats plenty of Kshatriyas too. Second, in whatever battle we see glitterwash in canon (usually against Arjun) he gets his ass whipped. Or runs away. It’s hardly this badass. Canon fail again. What number is this? #43. Sweeping title BGM plays as Glitterwash lifts the bow and arrow and leaves. “Karn…” trails off Radha. Glitterwash walks to the shore of the Ganga and stands there, eyes closed, offering up the bow and arrow. Precap: Ms. Melodrama takes off the black string as Honey Boy enters. She looks up. “Husband, I wish to tell you something. You need to dispense justice.” He smiles at her. “Tell me. What is it?” “Husband, the thing is…” Note 1: We’ve crossed 25.99K words! I’ll round it off to 26K. (Seriously, even my novel is somewhere around 31K right now, this is gonna overtake it fast.) And this isn’t even the 20th episode yet. Note 2: From canon fail #27- canon fail #43, almost all of them are related in some way or the other to Mr. Glitterwash. Gosh. That’s nearly half of them. And he’s just a kid right now, I’d say there are hundreds of canon fails coming up, brace yourselves for a very salty scribbler in the future.

Rosemary and Rue Re-Read: Part 11

Here’s part 11! As always: possible spoilers up to Night and Silence!

Chapter 23

We finally get to meet the Luidaeeeeeeeegg I’m so glad to seeeeeee heeeeeeeerrrrr

Toby says that according to rumor, the Luidaeg has been settled in San Francisco for nearly 70 years. I wonder what made her come then.

It’s interesting comparing Evening’s persona with the Luidaeg’s. Evening’s intimidating because she Seems Fae, even while she’s pretending to be mortal. Toby says multiple times that mortals would know that there was ‘just something’ about Evening, and even other fae were intimidated by her.

The Luidaeg, on the other hand, seems entirely normal; she’s not even really Impressive by mortal standards considering that she looks like a 19 year old girl who thinks it’s a good idea to tie her hair up with electric tape. She’s not unusually tall, no abnormally clear skin, she isn’t so beautiful you can’t stand to look at her she’s just completely, 100% ordinary.

And that’s the most terrifying thing about her, because how can someone who’s so old, so powerful, so wild just hide that???

... water and fire, blood and burning. She and her sisters were goddesses then, she and Black Annis and Gentle Annie, tending the younger children, roaming the bogs and rivers of the world. Maeve’s Firstborn, pulled from her in blood and screaming while Oberon walked far, far away. But they died one by one at the hands of men and fae, by iron and ash and rowan and fire they died, until the Luidaeg was the last, running, always running, called monster and demon because her blood was so much older and wilder than their own... ... did we lose it all for the roses? Oh, Mother, you fool...

So, this seems... significant. This is what Toby reads from the Luidaeg’s blood, and I think it’s the closest we’ve gotten to actual backstory about the Luidaeg. Most of this past is hinted at in the rest of the books, but I don’t think her sisters’ names are mentioned again. I kind of wonder what races of fae they were Firstborns of.

Also, this part demonstrates why this series is awesome for re-reads, because if I re-read this after The Winter Long came out, I would’ve assumed that the ‘did we lose it all for the roses’ line was about Eira. Now? I think it’s actually about Janet.

And just like that, Toby has switched her categorization of the Luidaeg from ‘horrible monster’ to ‘friend? Scary friend?’

Is it just me, or does Oberon seem like he was kind of a jackass. Like, he’s considered the final authority for all of Faerie, but he doesn’t seem like he actually pays attention to what anyone was doing, he didn’t consider changelings worthy of protection, and he seemed to get led around by his dick a lot for a king who was, like, actually good at his job. Plus, he was a horrible husband to Maeve and a terrible father to Maeve’s children. No wonder the Luidaeg’s so angry with him.

Also he seems kind of dumb? Like, if you’re going to force Maeve’s oldest Firstborn under a geas to protect all of the descendants of your second wife, why did you not force Titania’s oldest Firstborn under a geas for the same reason? And either Eira is way better at finding loopholes than the Luidaeg is, or Eira’s geas to stop her from harming the people of Amandine’s line was very poorly worded.

“I was wondering how long it would take for a member of [Amandine’s] line to bother tracking me down - although I’ll admit your blood’s a bit thinner than I expected. Tried to fix matters on her own, did she? She always was brainless. Runs in the family.”

Okay, a couple parts of this confuse me. By this point, August has tracked the Luidaeg down and demanded help on a quest. And the Luidaeg already knows how thin Toby’s blood is, because she’s the one who stopped Amandine from turning Toby completely human. A possible answer to this is ‘Seanan McGuire hadn’t come up with August or decided the Luidaeg was the one who intervened yet’ but a) that’s a boring answer, and b) I’m not 100% sure that tracks, so I want to see if I can come up with an in-canon reason. The Luidaeg isn’t supposed to be able to lie, but maybe that’s only if she’s asked direct questions? And that’s how she can indirectly lie about August? I wasn’t really sure why the Luidaeg brought up Toby’s blood in the first place, but maybe she’s trying to get Toby curious about her blood; because that line makes sense now, but I think I remember being very confused the first time I read it.

Annnnnd the Luidaeg refers to Evening in the present tense. Didn’t catch that the first time.

“You were that stupid by yourself? Wonderful. Amandine’s line is going to die out all on its own. I won’t have to lift a finger.”

Even Toby thought that was noteworthy, so that line is probably going to be important in some way. Maybe it has to do with Evening not being able to hurt Amandine’s line?

I wonder if the Luidaeg heard that Toby didn’t know that drinking the blood would make the curse stronger and thought, ‘Damnit, Amy, you are going to get your daughter killed.’

“The first hope chest was a gift from Oberon to Titania, to allow her to adjust her Court to her desire. She passed it along to the first of her half-blood children, and somewhere along the line, there were more of them. No one knows who made the later ones. I don’t know, so don’t ask.”

This doesn’t quite match up with the short story The Fixed Stars. In that story, the Luidaeg helps the changeling/merlins in a war against the fae in order for Oberon to step in and create the hope chests. According to that story, the hope chests were created specifically to help the changelings. Maybe the first one was made for Titania, and then the other ones came after that war.

Ahhh, my theory about why the Luidaeg owes Devin is wrong. She says that it’s because he stopped people trying to burn her at the stake. Although, she said that it was sixty years ago; who (and where) the hell was burning someone at the stake in 1949???

Hahaaaa, the Luidaeg called Toby pretty smart. I bet that was the last time the Luidaeg ever thought that.

Did the Luidaeg ever ask Toby the question that had to be answered completely honestly? The Luidaeg asked her a question, but I don’t think it reallly counted.

Chapter 24

Cagney and Laceeeeeeey. I think this is the beginning of them being personal messengers to their King. I think that should be utilized more often. (I’m biased; if there’s a way to add cats, I want to add cats)

I’m confused about Toby not wanting Tybalt to know about the curse. I thought the binding was the curse. If it is, then he doesn’t need to hear about it from everyone else, Toby; you told him about it already.

Annnnnd here’s Julie attacking Toby over Ross’ death. I have never been particularly sympathetic to Julie over this. I understand being angry at Lily over this; if Toby’s right about her motivation, then Lily did send them out despite knowing they were best suited to actually stopping the assassin. But both Ross and Julie knew what they were getting into when they agreed to escort Toby to her taxi. It’s definitely a tragedy that Ross died, but it’s not Toby’s fault that they both agreed to do the dangerous thing, and then it turned out to be dangerous. I could maybe understand it in this book, but it’s more and more childish the longer Julie insists that it’s Toby’s fault.

I didn’t really understand why Tybalt kept Julie in his Court, since Toby’s already said that he’s kicked her out when she’s refused to listen to him before, but then I realized that if he kicked her out, there would be nothing stopping Julie from tracking Toby and killing her, where as if she was part of his Court then Tybalt would have the authority to stop her.

Ahhhhhh Tybalt’s trusting Toby with access to his memorieeeeeeesssss

Someone asked my why I loved Fen. Tumblr ate the answer, so here what I said.

Alright that is a really good question

It started during the Haitus between season 2 and 3. I liked Fen and was intriged by what her life would be as someone who was raised to be married of (if ever the guy shows up). So I started to dig around and saw that she was really hated by the fandom

At this point, we knew nothing of her but her arc in s02 which is from wanting to be obedient to Eliot to being pregnant and fucked over by Margo; basically being a pawn and mistreated. A lot of fan hated (and still hate) her because she is married to Eliot and Queliot couldn’t happen anymore. And I started to defend her saying that she was forced into her marriage as well and she was just trying to make the best of it while having a husband who is not attracted to her and probably grew up being told: you will get married, you will get pregnant, you will provide an heir, that is your role on the fillorian throne.

I became very protective of her, trying to make people understand that it is not her fault that Queliot is not happening.

Honestly, it bumped me and almost drove me away from the fandom. Some friend suggested to me to write a fanfic of how I saw her growing up before Eliot would be, so maybe others could understand my point of view. It was near November and Nanowrimo was on the corner so I took all of a month to write The Girl from the World in the Wall which is a 50k + fic about Fen pre-Eliot. From her mother’s death when she was two to her wedding day.

As I wrote I just fucking fell in love with her. Even if my story is not canon, to put myself in the shoes of a girl that knew she will never be able to marry who she wanted and decided to join the FU Fighters in the hope to help Fillory if she was not on the throne. She have a lot of love for her land but also for her familly. She sacrificed everything to go in a loveless marriage. It took having her baby girl ripped away from her for Fen to decided that she was done playing by the rule everyone put in front of her

Season 3 happen and more people love her. Which I adore the writer for. Fen is more complex than a peasant girl who makes Eliot unhappy. She is her own person. And she discovers that by herself, with the help of Eliot, Julia and Margo. Having her saying to Eliot that she couldn’t stay in Fillory and needed time for herself was so BIG for her. She never put herself in front of others need. She never said or ask anything that could bring light on her. I doubt she even wonders who she was out of the role of the wife of a High King. This is why, when Eliot says she could leave, Fen reminds him she is married to him, not his title. We are stuck together with each other is her reminding Eliot that she is more than a pawn in his life and, if they don’t love each other, they could still respect each other; she is by his side while he is in the election despite him just having said she could leave. It’s not only to protect herself from what people could do to her; when Fen has her heart set on something, she does it. She promised to be my Eliot’s side for better or worse and that is what she is doing

This is why I SCREAMED when I saw that Margo gave her the role of acting king. Not only this is Margo saying ‘’Hey I know I screwed up but I trust you now and I trust you care enough about Fillory to look after it and not have a power trip. This is Margo saying to Fen that a Fillorian can be on the throne, just like the FU Fighters wanted. But also, I am sure this will give Fen the kick in the butt she needs to affirm herself; not to hesitate about what she wants or feel bad for asking things. Having to speak as a High King is different than being in the Council and I am more than excited to see where the writer will bring her this season. From what I saw, Margo and Her share the crown. Not only its big for Margo but for Fen too!

And before I finish this novella, I want to point out that what sold me about Fen being a kind and compassionate person and not only acting like it because she had to, it’s her arc with the fairies. She is kidnapped by them, made unable to hold her daughter after she gave birth and yet, came back without her to warn Eliot about the Fairies plan to invade. She hates de fairies, with an excellent reason. And yet, her heartache so much that she is ready to believe the Fairy Queen’s lie about Fray. When we learn the truth about the whole thing, not only she is destroyed as a mother, but the small spark of hope and of the Fen she uses to be before the kidnapping is gone; there is a before and an after when you lose a child. Fen stew in her hate on earth and is not jumping on the call when Julia ask for help; for the first time in her life probably, she decides to put herself, her pain, her emotions, in front of others. Which she probably never did. When she said to Skye ‘’Shit you are a slave’’ its her being mad at the fact that part of her feels bad for the fairy and know herself well enough that if she continues, she will start to care. This is why she pushes away any attempt Julia makes to make her join the investigation, reminding her (and herself) that because of them her daughter is dead

But then, she had to confront the Fairy Queen. And something sparks inside Fen; she realizes that she is not mad at the fairies as a species. She is mad at the Fairy Queen and what she did to her. She calls her out and tells her that she is willing to help them despite what the Queen did to her; meaning that once again Fen put her feeling aside from the greater good. But this time, it is by choice and not because she is told to. Her ‘’I Hate Fairies’’ is the most venomous thing Fen probably ever said. Fen doesn’t hate usually. Not that deep, not that much. And yet, despite her hate, she cared. And that ended up freeing fairies that were mistreated and use as slave despite what they were telling her (When she choke up after seeing they took Skye’s leg, mymy I cried)

So back when she is Acting King and the Fairy Queen comes to her, not only she dresses herself as a fairy to find who steal them, but confront them: affirming that Fairies were full citizen of Fillory and under her protection is so fucking big from a girl that tried not to care that a handful were slave on Earth. And goddamit, she even cries when the Fairy Queen sacrifice herself for her people. Because, at that moment, Fen understand that whatever the Queen did, it was always for her people; she stole children because the Fairies were unable to have babies, she stole limbs because that’s what magicians have been doing to them for centuries, she took over Fillory because that land was better for her people and now, she was ready to die to make sure they will be safe (hell, I am even ready to say that the Queen is actually sad that Fen’s daughter died in all of this, just by her unease to announce the news). ‘’Tears, for your enemies’’ This is the most powerful thing the Fairy Queen says and describe so much Fen. Because, in the end, and despite everything, Fairies are not enemies anymore and Fen even finds compassion for the Fairy Queen.

Compassion, Forgiveness and Love are hard to have in times of war, in times of doubt, in time of despair. We see with the others how easy it is to follow your demon and go the wrong way. And yet, Fen fights it and find a way to be kind and understanding. And even if she doesn’t have proper magic, I think this is Fen’s actual magical power; the power of love. And it the world we are living right now, I want to be more like her

(I am not even sorry for that novella, I fucking love Fen ok)

Well, it's been some time, but here we go again...

Okay, I've been away from the blog and tumblr in general for some time. I am Brazilian, and I do not know if you know, but we are currently facing a political problem in which we are focused on fighting against fascism in order not to allow our country to sink into another dictatorship. For this reason, I apologize for the little movement on the blog, and I hope you understand.

Anyway, I decided to take a look around and check if there was something new in the tags, and behold I find several supporters of Rhaegar justifying and relativizing their actions (once again). What I found most interesting was that the argument in question was that those who hold a negative view of Rhaegar do not understand the literary work. This was rather ironic, since the same argument can be used for those who refuse to see fault with their favorites, let's face it, is the one that most occurs with Rhaegar. I do not speak for all of Elia's fans here, but speaking for me, I do not think he was a monster. Not really. But that does not stop me from seeing your negative actions and your faults. The GRRM characters are, as he himself characterizes them, ashes. This means that everyone has both good and bad points. Deny any of them is ignore all the complexity of your writing. That said, let's go to other issues.

Another point raised was that Dorne was “built around Elia”. This statement is very problematic because it stereotypes a whole nation. Being I a Brazilian woman, a Latina proud of my roots, this kind of argument makes me very bitter, since I grew up surrounded by these stereotypes that do not fit the reality with which I live. In this sense, we need only look at Dorne to realize that, despite the supposed liberalism by which the kingdom is known, the characters have very personal characteristics. Doran is not like Oberyn, just like Quentyn is not like Arianne. Therefore, to consider that Elia may be a liberal woman because she was Dorne's is a rather shallow interpretation, and frankly, it is an issue that has been thoroughly discussed. (Note that I do not deny the possibility of she accepted what happened, I'm just pointing out that generalizing this is wrong and absurd.)

Now, since so many arguments have mixed things about the show and the books, I think it would be good to separate what the canon of books is and what the lore of the TV series is because they are very different things then.

The mentions about Elia in the books are few, and about their feelings/relationship are null. There is no mention of this issue in any of the five books of the Chronicles (or even in the spin-offs). What we know about Elia and Rhaegar's relationship in books is very basic. Rhaegar needed to get married, Aerys ordered to find a wife for him. The best option found was Elia (the why is still an open question, but it is generally believed that she was chosen by herself to be a descendant of a Targaryen, in addition to being close to the prince's age, doing what the marriage could occur immediately). An agreement was then made between the crown and the late Princess of Dorne. The ones involved in the issue seem to have had no say in the whole negotiation (this is what we know at the moment).

Yet their marriage was not a fiasco. According to Barristan Selmy, they did well and Rhaegar “quite liked the princess”, although he concluded that he was not sure if Rhaegar was capable of “feeling happiness”. Again, the feelings of Elia herself are not addressed. Even so, they had two children. Two children who almost cost the mother's life, because the mother always had a health and a fragile constitution. It is from here that begins the controversy already much debated.

Elia was left in Dragostone with little Rhaenys and Aegon, at the time a newborn baby. Her husband could not be found anywhere, although somehow everyone knew he was with Lyanna Stark. In the meantime the Rebellion broke out, and Aerys, who no longer liked her daughter-in-law and did not even trust her family, decided made of her would become a hostage to the crown along with her children. Again, we have no accounts of her thoughts or feelings here, just the basics. Briefly, after this Rhaegar returns and departs again into battle, dying in the process.

When the news arrives at Port Royal, Aerys II then decides to declare his son Viserys as heir to the throne in place of his grandson, Aegon, and sends him to Dragon Stone with his Queen (then pregnant with Daenerys). It is only at this moment that we perceive the “voice” of Elia for the first time in the whole situation. She begs to go along with her children, but Aerys refuses to allow her to leave, and the prison continues.

The next time we hear her voice, it will be at the moment of her death. According to reports, the Princess would have called “by a certain name” when her door was broken open and the attack occurred. Her rape and her death are already known, so I will not dwell on it, but the main point here is the same. Elia's relationship with Rhaegar, a question remains speculative.

Now, in the TV series, the arguments change drastically. Elia is mentioned in several episodes of the series, and still has its feelings described by its brother, Oberyn, both in the series itself, and in History and Lore.

But let's start from the beginning. In the series, the search for the bride was similar to the book, with the crucial difference that in GOT, it was Rhaegar himself who chose Elia. It was also he who moved from the Capital to Dorne to ask for the Princess's hand. According to Oberyn, they were initially not very willing to give in, but Rhaegar convinced them that she would be a good husband to her and that she would take care of her, and thus won not only the Princess but also her family. This is all told in the History and Lore of the series itself.

In the TV series, Rhaegar and Elia lived in the Red Keep itself, along with the prince's parents. It is stated by Oberyn that Elia loved truely her husband. She give him children have wanted and struggled to be a good wife because she loved him. And in return for this love, Rhaegar abandoned her and ran away with Lyanna Stark. According to Oberyn, Rhaegar left his wife with his crazy father and ignored his feelings and his children.

As we know, to make matters worse, the show-Rhaegar not only abandoned his wife to the imminent danger of his father's madness and war, but also annulled their marriage (we will dispense with comments about the impossibility and impracticability of this, since we 're talking about the series and coherence is not the forte there). Finally, Elia, alone and frightened, ended up being raped and killed along with her children (in the series, she witnessed the murder of both before dying, whereas in the books, she only saw the death of Aegon).

That being said, we can see that the differences between the works are actually glaring. And I understand the fans book-Rhaegar, because he is quite complex. Already in the series? It is almost impossible for me to believe that someone is still trying to defend him. The Rhaegar of the series is a horrible personage, who was totally inconsequent in his actions.

I will not mention Lyanna here, because I have nothing against the character in the books, in fact, I think she is quite interesting, and in the series she did not have much prominence, appearing only to be the passionate girl who dies in childbirth . (We do not have her sensitive statements about Robert, or her defense of Howland Reed, or even her possible action as KoLT.) At the show, her only function was to be Jon's mother, so there's no lot of personality for be discussed

So, just for conclude, let's combine it like this: Do not stereotype characters, defend Rhaegar in his tag and separate what is canon from the books and what is in the series at the time of making their defense. Do not presume to be superior by not accepting points of view divergent from yours, for each critic has an argument as well as every defense. Is for this what duality exists in the characters. And, please do not use the Elia Martell tag for this.

More responses (I'm doing this a lot today) || Reasons

Well, I’m not sure if any of the arguments stated are the ‘old’ ones you mentioned (I haven’t had an argument in a long time, I tend to avoid them), although they are rather common amongst us who don’t ship SS.

My main issue with SS isn’t the fact that Sasuke is away. Far from it. I think that could’ve been worked in his favour. My issue is the lack of communication, which I realise is a common argument. It isn’t necessarily the ships fault though, I acknowledge this as bad writing.

Sasuke didn’t know what Sarada looked like when he first saw her. He didn’t recognise her. This is such a dick move on Kishi’s part because I’m utterly unconvinced a man of Sasuke’s power and status is unable of communicating with his family because its ‘unsafe’.

He’s the one with the power to travel through space and yet he doesn’t show up even once in 10 years to see his child.

Surely you can acknowledge how messed up this is?

And for my personal reasons; well, I believe the key to a successful relationship is communication and familiarity, and I don’t believe the build up towards their marriage was done well or correctly.

Sasuke left on his trip to redemption right after the war, and somehow decided he could just return, marry, procreate and then leave? Isn’t that selfish? If he believed he didn’t deserve happiness like you put it, then why? Why did he do this to Sakura? I don’t think it makes her happy to be a single mother whose husband is never able to be home for a reason or another. And what about Sarada? I would think he out of everyone would understand what its like to grow up without a father, and yet he’s never there to train her or impart traditional uchiha secrets on her.

This is all keeping in mind it was his choice to have her before finishing his journey.

Old me that used to ship them hated this so much, she couldn’t stomach it and moved on to more fulfilling ships.

And gods, I was so bitter! For a while I hated them so much just seeing art of them made me cringe and would ruin my day. I’m doing better now though, I’ve learned to stomach the fanon version again through reading the amazing fic A Twist in Time by the lovely wolf08.

So I reiterate; my problem is canon and kishi, not the people. Not the fandoms. Fanon SS is brilliant, well written, well plotted, well delivered.

Canon? It’s trash. Bad writing. How I wish Kishi left the ending at 699. That there was never a sequel. He’s ruined his own work and I don’t say this because I dislike the ships but because he ruined so many other things.

I don’t care that Sasuke has to be away, or that this was as much his choice as it was hers, all I know is this is their story and it’s sad, unfulfilling and makes me more miserable than happy. I can’t ship this, and I can’t for one second imagine Sakura could be happy with this.

And if you’ve read this, and you feel like I’m still irrational? I’m sorry, but this is just how I feel. You said you didn’t ship KakaSaku and I don’t even require reasons to understand that it’s perfectly okay for you to dislike them. I know what set of problems accompanies my ship and how some people tend to view it and I accept its not everyone’s cup of tea. I do stress one fact though, because people assume this all the time, I DONT ship underage KS, I don’t support it, I can’t stomach it, all the obvious reasons. So if you shall state your opinion like I stated mine, please avoid the common misplaced accusation of pedophilia. Because then I’d be inclined to disregard everything else you’ve said.

I have to make it clear that although we are shown in Gaiden that they did not communicate because Sarada believes it is so, it doesn’t mean that they really did not communicate at all. Gaiden is written in Sarada’s perspective as the protagonist of that story. Obviously, we are only shown what she believes to be true.

I can’t blame people for reaching the conclusion that they did that Sasuke and Sakura didn’t communicate at all but I wished that they wouldn’t have just jump straight into believing things without considering what we did get in canon (unless you’re delusional antis).

Now we know that Sasuke at least communicated with Naruto as part of reporting his findings to the Hokage. But what people didn’t consider is that just because only Naruto is stated to be the one he keeps in contact with doesn’t mean that Sakura herself is out of the loop like Sarada does. If you pay attention to the first chapters of Gaiden, Sakura is acting secretively and her answers are vague as if she’s hiding something. Many people believe it has something to do with the truth regarding Sasuke during his stint as a missing-nin but I believe it overlooks another obvious reason stated by Sasuke himself.

When Sasuke volunteered to search for entities like Kaguya, he wanted no one who was not present during the Kage meeting to know what he was doing. Sakura is very much present in this meeting so she is not part of those who are excluded from knowing Sasuke’s mission.

That is why it is more probable to say that while Naruto is the one to keep correspondence with him, the former will update Sakura of his latest movement. With Naruto as the medium, they can easily write to each other. She in turn will try to satisfy her daughter’s curiosity for as long as she could without spilling the whole truth.

Sasuke is obviously not away for 12 years. Let me just say this first. At the very least, he was still present when Sarada was 4-5 years old (a bit before the flashback scene of her asking her mother where her father was). However, you fail to consider that as Sarada grows older, she no longer looks the same as she once did. There are actual cases where children don’t look anything like how they used to back when they were still very young. So it’s also very much safe to assume that he didn’t recognize her at first because she wasn’t how he remember her to be. I very much believe this is the case, since he also didn’t know who Boruto was the first time he saw him. Knowing Naruto, he can’t not show his child to his most precious people, therefore Sasuke had seen Boruto as a young child, regardless if Boruto remembered their encounter or not.

Aside from that, he also expects Sarada to be inside the village and not wandering around. Couple that with the threat of the Shins, Sasuke is on high alert for possible clones. Sarada unfortunately gets caught in the crossfire.

Now why didn’t they send pictures to him?

That is what made it unsafe. It should be obvious right?

You fail to grasp the gravity of Sasuke’s mission. You are only looking at how it affected his relationship with his family but you did not look at the bigger picture.

Kaguya’s presence threatened the existence of the entire humanity. It did not only involve shinobi, it involve all beings with chakra. Imagine finding the possibility of an even more dangerous entity than the one who already managed to put the entire world to near extinction. He simply cannot afford to slack and getting distracted when the fate of the entire world, as well as that of his own family, is at stake.

By focusing his mission above anything else, Sasuke did nothing wrong especially since it is directly stated in the Shinobi Rule #4: A shinobi must always put the mission first.

Sakura understands this. Didn’t she recite the shinobi rules while crying over Sasuke’s injured form during the battle with Zabuza and Haku? Then it stands to reason why Sasuke never visited even once and she no doubt don’t resent him for it when she saw firsthand how dangerous Kaguya was and how crucial it is for him to focus on his mission above his need to see his family, as well as her own experience. You’re acting as if Sakura is not a ninja and unfamiliar of how they work.

This is not messed up. This is Sasuke putting the safety of his family and the world above his desires to be with them. After all, it is worth sacrificing all he had just to ensure their safety. He can easily make up for the lost years bonding with them after the mission right?

The only drawback is he didn’t count how Sarada would be affected by his decision to hide things from her. That is why he didn’t allow Sakura to apologize for her behavior because he knows that he is more to blame than her.

Now this is one of the reasons I hate antis. You only place things in realistic standards only when it concerns Sasusaku. Stop with the double standards please. Naruto was never a realistic show with its themes and concepts. You should not apply your own standards to it. Not only that but they showed understanding, familiarity and successful communication be it only with their body language, eye contact (eye smex) or words as far back as part one and continued in their marriage. Sasuke’s departure for the mission did not hinder their relationship as husband and wife at all. There was no problem with their bond. Only Sarada’s doubts made people believe otherwise.

And do you think it would be ideal to their relationship if Sasuke just up and proceed to enter in a relationship with Sakura while carrying heavy emotional baggage? I don’t think you paid attention to details but the reason Sasuke could not fully give in to the feelings of love he already harbored for her and fall for her completely prior to his defection was because his revenge and emotional turmoil was hindering them. He could not enjoy life at all not until he fully avenged the clan and fulfilled his goal. Instead, he went to believe that bonds made him weak.

Now once again he was saved from this but instead, is now atoning for his sins. If he just ignored the impulse to go on a journey of atonement, he would be unable to reciprocate her feelings in full once again. That would be detrimental, and something anti sasusaku fans wants to happen right? He would be almost like how you people see him: an uncaring husband and father who can’t stay for no reason at all other than his own conflicting feelings, except that he does care about them but doesn’t have the heart to stay out of guilt.

Kishi made the right decision to make Sasuke go on that journey and later implied that they traveled together afterwards and build their relationship even further. That way, their relationship is much healthier as we actually do see in Gaiden.

Once again, you trivialize Sasuke’s mission as something to be dismissed in the guise of him as a husband “ who is never able to be home for a reason or another” when he was away not because he wanted to but because he had to. There is a difference.

Sasuke doesn’t care about clan traditions, not when he already vowed during the final battle in VoTE that he will destroy and rebuild everything as well as cast off the past. I don’t see him changing that soon when he still fulfills his idea of “ruling in the shadows” to an extent.

This is all keeping in mind it was his choice to have her before finishing his journey.

Sakura wanted to go with him during his first ever journey but he told her “you are not part of my sins” and poked her forehead instead as a promise. He did not make any move without her consent. When he did get back, they travel together and get married in the process and gave birth to Sarada in Orochimaru’s hideout.

Now take note: Sasuke haven’t yet discovered the existence of the other Ootsutsuki headaches out there when they went on this journey together as they traveled prior to Naruto’s inauguration as Hokage. It can be sure that the situation is far different that is why they can afford to get married and have a child at that point in time.

Yeah, because if you actually took the time to think more critically, you would have seen what we loyal Sasusaku fans still see until this day. And if you actually did look at Kakasaku more critically starting their genin days and not because Kakashi actually supported Sakura’s feelings for Sasuke (SS ship captain right there), you would’ve seen that Kakasaku is actually worse in comparison.

But that is a discussion I will put on a separate post.

So I reiterate; my problem is canon and kishi, not the people. Not the fandoms. Fanon SS is brilliant, well written, well plotted, well delivered.

To some extent I acknowledge bad writing. But give Kishi credit. After all, the reason why Sasusaku is so popular is the complexity of their relationship. You can literally fit Sasusaku in all genre and still make it in character. You can even easily find many songs, poems, and scenes that will bring you back to them.

That is how well-done their love story is.

It’s funny, because Sakura didn’t show she is actually unhappy in Gaiden. Sure, she misses her husband but she was able to smile and assure her daughter of their bond. I’m not sad at all, for while Sasuke did went back to his mission once again, he was finally back for real. The Boruto movie and novel went so far as to imply that they had sex when he got back for real and Sarada teased her mother about it in a subtle way.

What’s there to be sad about?

Why yes. With how your line of reasoning fared against mine, it’s unfortunate but sorry YOU. ARE. IRRATIONAL. I don’t care much about the age gap Kakashi and Sakura are supposed to have when you ship it or whatever realistic standards it broke. All I care is how their relationship was shown in the series from start to finish. I’m sorry to tell you because I found them lacking no matter how aesthetically pleasing the two of them are.

I’m even disgusted why this ship gets a pass just because Kakashi supported Sakura’s feelings. But did he actually cared about her as a person and not just a former member of his squad? That is the question

Other crack pairings are forgivable because they’re crack and already impossible to begin with. (not counting the mess that is SK)

You will know my point why I never considered Kakasaku at all. But that’s for later.

The Money Problem

Note: In honor of Killian Jones being a canon father, I gave you Daddy!Killian goodness. Granted, this series is now officially a canon divergence, but frankly my dear, I don't give a damn because Season Seven is now officially kinda a hot mess, and I’m ignoring it in favor of my personal headcanons and @peglegsjones‘s headcanons. Those are the only realities I’m kinda accepting right now because I seriously hated the Wish Realm arc. Anyway, I haven't forgotten about my other unfinished works, but this one really grabbed me. I was inspired by a little girl crying on the tube because she lost her toy. As always, @welllpthisishappening is my fic life partner and light of my life and therefore this is kinda dedicated to her. Summary: It's normal for small children to get attached to a toy or a blanket. Killian thinks his children are a little too attached to theirs, especially his daughter who takes her stuffed doggie everywhere. Rating: T Word Count: 5,300+

In a convoluted way, Killian blamed Dave for this. Because really, if Dave hadn’t bought the blasted teddy bear for Harrison’s first birthday then he probably wouldn’t have to deal with his children and their obsession with their “specials."

Yes, his children had “specials”; objects that they wrapped themselves around and refused to let go of whether it be to go out for a family dinner at Granny’s or to attend a wedding. Both Emma and Snow had assured them that “specials” were quite normal but it still sometimes worried him.

Ever since Harrison had laid eyes on that bear, he had formed an attachment to it; refusing to sleep without it. It had led to many a phone call on date night where Dave or Snow would tell them that they had forgotten Harrison’s beloved bear and had stopped over the house to find it to no avail. (And naturally Killian would find the blasted thing under Harrison's toddler bed not even five seconds after looking.) The stuffed menace even had a name, a creative label that only a two-year old could come with - Ducky Cookie. (Killian was still trying to figure out how Harrison had come up with that beauty.)

While Harrison was enamored with Ducky Cookie, Wes had Blankie. Like his brother, he had received a teddy bear from his grandfather but he set it aside to cuddle up with a fuzzy blue blanket covered in anchors that Emma had bought him off the discount rack at the local children’s store. Wes didn’t seem to care that the bloody thing had only cost four dollars; he only cared that his parents swaddled him in it at every waking moment.

This, of course, led to Beth, who was the most attached to her “special”, which was a stuffed dog which had an even more bizarre name than Ducky Cookie or Blankie. Beth’s little companion was named Money. Why the dog was named Money, Killian couldn’t quite say but Emma blamed him for it. Regardless of its chosen moniker, Money was a pain in Killian’s ass. Where Harrison and Wes were a bit more reasonable about leaving their beloved items behind, Beth brought Money everywhere and whenever Emma or Killian suggested that they leave the dog behind, she would pitch a Hurricane Elizabeth worthy tantrum.

Killian’s current predicament only highlighted this.

In a fit of tiredness, he and his wife had decided to take their three small children on a much-needed vacation. Killian’s definition of vacation had been to take the Jolly on a week’s long sail. Emma had vetoed this and decided that they should rent a beach house on a small vacation island called Martha’s Vineyard, citing a need for some normalcy. What she meant by that, Killian had no idea, but had wisely given into his wife’s plans. They had just arrived on the island and had been told by a cleaning crew that the house wouldn’t be ready until late afternoon. Instead of ridding themselves of their luggage, they had decided to hit the beach. While Harrison and Wes had wisely left their beloved “specials” in the can, Beth was being a bit more difficult about leaving Money behind.

“I think you should leave your doggie in the car, Little Beth,” Killian told her in a low voice as he unstrapped her from her car seat.

Beth, cranky from their car ride, glared at him and wrapped her tiny arms around her beloved toy in response.

“No,” she said in a voice that held a sense of toddler-grade finality.

“But you don’t want him getting all dirty, do you love?” Killian asked in a cajoling voice, smoothing his hand cross the crown of her head in hopes of managing the riot of dark curls. She looked like she hadn’t seen a brush in days.

“No,” she repeated, still hugging the toy close to her chest.

Killian sighed and made a move to take it away from her. Beth promptly squirmed away from him. Her face turned a violent shade of red that heralded the start of a huge tantrum. Not wanting to risk the start of a meltdown of epic proportions, Killian backed away with his hands up and turned to his wife. Emma was riffling through all the junk in the back of their car to get their beach things. As she pulled out a huge bag of toys, a kiddie pool, two boogie boards and a cooler, Killian suddenly missed the simple days when it was just him, his wife and Henry; there wasn’t a need for all of this nonsense then.

“Love, I need a little help,” Killian said after a moment.

“I’m a bit busy here, babe,” Emma responded absently, pulling out a pair of kid sized beach chairs and turning to their sons. “You think you boys can carry this on your own?”

Harrison nodded, taking both chairs from his mother and turning to hand one to his younger brother. Wes frowned and crossed his arms across his chest.

“I don’t wanna,” he said, shaking his head for emphasis.

Emma sighed, pinching the bridge of her nose.

“Westley, I don’t care if you want to or not. You are going to carry that chair or else it’s going to take forever to get all this stuff up to the beach.”

“Har can do it,” Wes said stubbornly.

“Har is going to carry his chair and you’re going to carry yours. The decision is final. Keep this up and I don’t let you go in the water with Daddy,” Emma responded, narrowing her eyes at him.

Wes, who had been a vigorous swimmer since he had started swimming lessons, gaped at his mother for a moment before begrudgingly taking a chair from Harrison. Killian couldn’t help but be impressed.

“Swan, if you have a moment, our daughter needs a little convincing to leave her special doggie behind,” Killian said, giving her a hopeful look.

Emma sighed again before turning to her husband.

“You take over this. I will take over negotiations with Her Highness. Just a heads up, the umbrella is really deep in there and might take some maneuvering,” Emma replied with a hint of frustration in her voice.

Killian blinked at her.

��Are you sure we need all of this stuff? It seems a bit excessive…” Killian said, gesturing to the kiddie pool, bag of toys, cooler, boogie boards and assortment of chairs.

Emma crossed her arms across her chest and gave him a glare that looked eerily similar to the one that their daughter had just given him. Killian gave his wife the same response that he gave his daughter; he placed his hands up in the air in surrender. It wasn’t worth the argument despite the pain in the ass it would be to carry all of this junk up to the beach along with finding the perfect spot. He never missed his stepson more than he did now.

Emma strode over to the car door to confront their daughter while Killian made his way over to the trunk, which was overflowing with suitcases, pillows, food and beach gear. The umbrella was wedged under a pile of heavy looking suitcases.

“It looks like Jenga,” Harrison commented, tilting his head to the side.

“Pardon?” Killian frowned at his eldest.

“Jenga. Henry always plays it with me,” Harrison replied. “You have move pieces around without everything falling down…I’m bad at it.”

“I’m sure you’ll get better,” Killian responded reassuringly, ruffling Harrison’s dark hair and surveying the precarious landscape of the car.

He leaned forward and grabbed the end of the umbrella, giving it a testing tug. It slid forward a little bit before the suitcases on top did as well. He stopped, not wanting to cause an avalanche. He sighed and turned to his sons.

“This is why I wanted to go sailing instead,” he told them in exasperation. “You lot are a lot of work sometimes.”

Wes gave him an unimpressed look that made him look older than his near six-years of life. (It still shocked the hell out of him that his youngest son was turning six in September. Where had the time gone?)

“Should have thought about that before you decided to have kids. Not my fault,” Wes replied with a shrug.

Killian opened his mouth to reply that out of the three of them, only Wes himself was planned, but quickly shut his mouth when he remembered his audience. He should probably wait until they were well into their teenage years before dropping that kind of psychological damage onto their laps. (Not that Killian necessarily regretted his children. They were quite lovely when they weren’t being difficult, which was a bit too frequently for his tastes.)

“Elizabeth…” Emma’s voice sounded over the luggage.

“No!” Beth replied and there was a thud that followed. Killian could only assume that his daughter had kicked the seat in front of her. She had a habit of doing that when she was mad.

“You are leaving Money behind!” Emma declared. It was clear that she was losing patience.

“No!” Beth did not seem to care her mother was nearing the end of her rope.

There was movement from the seats in front of him, but Killian couldn’t see what was happening through the mountain of suitcases, however, he could only assume that Emma was trying to wrestle away the dog as Beth let out an ear-piercing shriek. Killian cringed, ducking his head.

“Make her stop! Make her stop!” Harrison pleased, placing his hands over his ears. Wes followed suit, giving Killian a miserable look.

Over the shrieking, Killian heard his wife let out a loud huff and watchad she stomped away from their daughter’s car seat, looking furious.

“If she wants the dog, she can have the dog,” Emma stated in annoyance. “But that thing is going to get disgusting and let’s see how she likes it when I have to take it away later to put it through the wash.”

Emma marched back towards Killian, glancing between her husband and the umbrella still lodged in the trunk of the car. She let out another impatient huff.

“You really couldn’t handle one umbrella?” she asked, arching her eyebrow.

“It’s pretty lodged in there, Swan,” he responded somewhat defensively. “Do you think we really need it?”

“Yes,” she hissed through clenched teeth. “Because you, Killian Jones, are horrible at putting on sunscreen and I’m not having my husband turning into a lobster on me.”

She then cut her eyes to their sons.

“And you two are lathering up! Don’t think I’m letting those pale bodies of yours even touch the water before you covered in sunblock! I mean it, Westley Graham Jones!”

Wes looked a bit offended at being called out and Killian watched with some amusement as he moved his jaw side to side, much like Dave did when he was annoyed. He wondered for a moment if the move was learned or inherited. Perhaps a bit of both.

Beth had obviously hopped down from her car seat because before Killian knew she was curling a hand around his leg and looking up at him with big green eyes while holding her dog possessively against her chest.

“Carry me?” she asked with a pout.

Killian shook his head.

“Sorry, Minnow. Daddy has to carry your toys and the cooler. You’re going to have to walk,” Killian replied with a sigh.

“Elizabeth, you’re walking,” Emma stated in a tone that brokered no arguments as she pulled the umbrella out from under the suitcases and gave Killian a look of triumph. “And you’re carrying your chair.”

Beth pouted, looking between her parents before focusing all of her energy on Killian. Her lip began to tremble a bit, signaling she was on the verge on crying. Killian’s eyes back to his wife, who was rolling hers.

“Spare the crocodile tears, kid,” Emma snapped. “Daddy might be a marshmallow for them, but I’m not. You already got your dog. You’re not getting anything else.”

It wasn’t long before they were all hauling beach equipment up the sandy dunes. The beach was already crowded with people and it took them a good ten minutes to find a good spot to make camp and even longer time to sort out the beach blankets, fold out all the chairs and fill the kiddie pool, which they had brought for the kids to play in without too much supervision. The waves were relatively high for small children to be playing and knowing their kids, Killian just knew one of them was going to try to sneak in water. He still had nightmares about the time Wes had done exactly that and nearly got pulled under by the riptide.

“Dad! Dad! Dad!” Wes yanked on Killian’s arm none too gently, nearly dislodging it. “Can we go into the water? Can we?”

“Did you put on sunscreen?” Killian asked, arching an eyebrow.

Wes immediately frowned at the question, signaling that the answer was certainly a no. Killian sighed and pulled out a bottle of sunscreen and handed it to the boy.

“Put this on and then we’ll talk,” he said firmly.

He immediately turned to his wife who was riffling through the cooler to get Beth a juice box. The little girl in question was sitting in her beach chair, wearing Emma’s sunglasses and pretending to read her brothers’ Spider-Man comics while rubbing her thumb rhythmically over Money’s black ear. He couldn’t help but grin at her.

“What do you think, Swan?” he asked Emma quietly. “Does the water look too rough to you?”

Emma looked up from the cooler and surveyed the waves crashing on the shoreline with a small frown before glancing up at her husband.

“They’re a little big, but I think they should be okay as long as they’re with you. Just make sure that Harrison works on that doggy paddle of his. He honestly sucks at it,” Emma replied with a sigh before handing a Kool Aid pouch to Beth.

“Aye, the boy swims like a jellyfish,” Killian agreed with a chuckle.

Beth took the juice without looking up from Spider-Man, slurping on it contently. Emma coughed and looked at her pointedly.

“Excuse me, Your Highness, what do we say when people do things for you?” Emma asked, obviously still annoyed with their daughter’s behavior.

“Thank you,” Beth mumbled, a small blush painting over her cherub cheeks.

“Good girl,” Emma remarked before looking back at Killian. “If you want to take the boys in, just make sure they put on sunscreen. You’re a big boy and I can’t make you do anything except maybe slather you in aloe vera later when you complain but them, no sunscreen, no water. Those are the rules.”

Wes tossed the sunscreen unceremoniously into the sand and gave his father an impatient look that was completely ruined by the patches of white glob that had been haphazardly rubbed onto his face.

“Can we go in now?” he asked, wriggling in place.

Killian let out a heavy sigh and pulled his youngest son over so he rubbed in the excess sunscreen.

“This is sloppy work, lad,” Killian remarked as he swiped at Wes’s cheek. “I know you don’t like it, but if you don’t do it right, it’s just going wash off and you’ll be left with burnt shoulders.”

“Sunburns aren’t that bad,” Wes shrugged.

“But melanoma is,” Emma countered.

Wes blinked in confused

“What’s melanoma?”

“It’s cancer and take my word for it, it really sucks,” Emma responded before looking around and frowning.

“Where’s Harrison?”

“He’s already down by the water, making sure that Jaws isn’t out there,” Wes replied.

“Jaws?” Emma blinked. “How does Harrison know about Jaws?”

“Henry showed him a movie about it. I wasn’t allowed to watch, but I know it’s about a big, big, big shark that eats people,” Wes replied, spreading his arms in emphasis. “You’ve seen Jaws, right Dad?”

“I’ve seen the film, aye,” Killian replied. “But it’s hardly something I would call accurate. You have nothing to worry about, lad. He isn’t real.”

“Are you sure?” Wes asked, sounding uncertain.

“Jaws isn’t real,” Emma confirmed. “And Henry shouldn’t be letting you or Harrison watch films like that. You're too young for scary stuff.”

When Killian had finished rubbing in all of the sunscreen and Emma had given her final approval, he walked his son down to the water, which his other son was looking out at the water apprehensively.

“Jaws isn’t real. Mom said so,” Wes said to his older brother bluntly.

“But sharks are real,” Harrison replied before looking up at Killian with almost solemn green eyes. “And there are sharks out there, aren’t there Dad?”

Killian sighed, debating how to approach the subject of sharks without scaring off his eldest son. He didn’t want him to be afraid of the water, but he didn’t want to lie either.

“The likelihood of us running into a shark is very small,” Killian said after a moment. “And if we do, I’ll protect you. I promise.”

Harrison looked back and forth between his father’s face and the ocean in front of them before giving his father a tentative nod.

“Okay.”

“That’s a lad.” Killian grinned.

Harrison hooked his arm around his father’s elbow, allowing Killian to pull them into the water. The three of them waded a few feet from the shore, playing a game of "up and under" as waves rolled in. They couldn’t have been in the ocean for more than fifteen minutes before Harrison complained about the amount of seaweed wrapping along his legs.

When Killian returned to shore, he was greeted with the sight of his three-year-old in the middle of one of her infamous Hurricane Elizabeth tantrums. She was shrieking on the top of her lungs, her face turned a blotchy red and she was kicking the sand every which way. Emma was trying to calm her down, looking both frustrated and embarrassed as neighboring strangers began to stare at them.

“HE TOOK MY MONEY! I WANT MONEY!” Beth shrieked.

“Oh shit,” Killian muttered under his breath.

“You said a bad word,” Harrison said in scandalized tone.

“Aye, and don’t you dare repeat it,” Killian replied absently as he practically dragged his sons back to their spot.

“I WANT MONEY! I WANT MONEY NOW!” Beth screamed again, sending an impressive amount of sand into the air.

“What’s going on?” Killian asked his wife.

“Her special is missing and now she’s throwing a fit,” Emma replied, running her hands through her hair and looking completely stressed out. “We told her to leave it in the car and now it’s lost. Surprise, surprise.”

“I WANT MONEY!” Beth yelled loudly, kicking the sand again.

Killian turned to speak to her but caught the eye of a neighboring woman who was looking at him and his family with reproach. Immediately Killian realized how his daughter’s words must have sounded to the other parents around him who had no idea that she was referring to a stuffed animal rather than actual currency.

“It’s her stuffed doggie,” he said weakly. “Her dog is named Money. She’s not asking for actual money.”

The woman arched in eyebrow, looking at him in disbelief, but Killian didn’t really care whether she believed him or not. He was more concerned with Beth’s meltdown.

Killian sighed and leaned down so he was eye-level with his screaming daughter. He placed his hand firmly on her shoulder. Beth jerked wildly under his grip, trying to get away.

“What’s going on, Elizabeth?” he asked her, trying to gentle his voice.

“HE TOOK MY MONEY!” Beth yelled back, not lowering her volume. Killian winced at the sound level.

“Who took your Money, love? You gotta let me know who so I can get him back,” Killian replied as patiently as he could.

Beth responded by jerking up her arm and pointing at something behind Killian. He turned to look and saw a mangy-looking stray dog holding his daughter’s favored stuffed animal in its mouth and wagging his tail almost tauntingly.

“Daddy is going to go get your doggie, okay?” Killian said. “So, calm down and go sit with Mommy, Har and Wes, okay?”

As soon as Beth nodded, Killian got up and turned to face the dog that had stolen Money. It was watching him with a keen eye, as if it realized Killian’s mission. He did his best to approach the dog with calm, measured steps, not wanting to scare it off.

“Hey boy…” Killian crooned slowly. “Hey boy…what do you got there? I don’t think that belongs to you…”

As soon as Killian was in grabbing distance, the dog took off like shot. Killian let out a loud, frustrated curse before breaking off into a sprint after it. Sand went flying as Killian chased it. The dog wasn’t necessarily fast, but people proved to be a challenge for Killian as they often didn’t seem to get the idea that he was in hot pursuit of a thief. Most of them stood stupidly as Killian nearly mowed them over.

The chase came to an end as the dog skidded into a beach volleyball game, slamming into one of the players. Not even paying the other man mind, Killian reached for the stuffed animal and tried to yank it from the dog’s mouth.

“Let go!” Killian commanded, gripping Money’s body as tightly as he could.

The dog growled defiantly in response, not willing to let go of its prize. The stranger who had been knocked into seemed to realize what was happening and had grabbed onto the dog and was trying to pull it off of the stuffed animal as well.

Just as Killian thought he was succeeding there was a loud ripping noise and he fell backward, still holding onto Money. He looked down at the plush toy in alarm as he realized that one of its legs was still in the dog’s mouth.

“Fuck,” Killian said, trying to survey the extent of the damage.

“That’s just bad luck there,” the stranger said sympathetically, letting go of the dog. It took off like a shot, happy to get away from Killian.

“Beth is not going to be happy,” Killian murmured.

“Who’s Beth?” The stranger asked.

“My daughter,” Killian replied absently. “This her doggie.”

“Oh man. That’s rough,” the other man replied. “Maybe you could get her a new one?”

“Doubtful,” Killian remarked, already turning to head back. “This was her special.”

Killian thumbed the rip in his daughter’s stuffed animal as he apprehensively made his way back to where his family was located. Money was in bad shape. He was covered in sand and dog slobber; his fake fur was more gray than white with patches of caked dirt and sand on it. Fluff was pouring out where the dog had ripped off its leg.

When Beth saw him, her eyes were alight with hope. She got up from her beach chair, approaching him with a wide smile that faded when she took in Money’s missing limb.

“He’s hurt!” she cried, tears dripping at the corners of her eyes. “Money’s hurt! He’s gonna die, isn’t he Daddy?”

“Hey, hey, calm down,” Killian said gently, once more dropping to his knees onto the sand. He placed his blunted arm on her shoulder. “Daddy is going to make Money all better, okay? He’s going to make him all better. Do you believe me?”

Beth nodded her head vigorously. Tears still flooding her eyes.

“Then stop crying because Money is going to be okay.”

Killian caught his wife’s eyes over Beth’s shoulder and he nodded his head towards the umbrella, silently signaling for her to back up their beach things. Emma let out a loud sigh before turning to the boys.

“Ready to check out the house?” she asked them.

“Already?” Wes whined. “But we just got here!”

“Well, we need to go because we’re having a bit of an…emergency,” Emma said a bit lamely as she began gathering things and tossing them thoughtlessly into their beach bag.

Wes’s face scrunched in displeasure and his eyes immediately cut over to his sister.

“This is your fault!” he hissed at her.

Killian opened his mouth to reproach him, but his eldest son beat him to the punch. Harrison leaned over and whacked his brother aside the head.

“Don’t be mean! You were way worse when you thought you lost Blankie at that Red Sox game that Grandpa David brought us to,” Harrison commented.

“But that was Blankie!” Wes protested.

“Yes, and this is Money,” Harrison countered. “He’s just as important to Beth as Blankie is to you and Ducky Cookie is to me.”

The rented house was only fifteen minutes from the beach, but they made it to the house in ten minutes as Emma broke more than a few speed limits on their way. A harassed looking elderly couple glared at them as they whipped by, but Emma paid them no mind.

Upon arriving at the house, Killian didn’t bother to even look around before searching through all the drawers for some needle and thread. He found his prize in the nightstand in the master bedroom and immediately snatched it.

“Swan, I’m going to need your help,” Killian called as he practically ran down the stairs.

Emma was sitting on the couch with their three children, running her fingers through Beth’s dark hair as they watched television. There were still tears in Beth’s eyes as she stroked Money’s dirty pelt.

Emma looked up at him, noticed the bag of needles and spools in his hand and raised an eyebrow at him. Killian looked back at her with an eyebrow of his own. Emma merely pursed her lips at him before she nudged Beth’s shoulder.

“Hey, Daddy and I are going to fix Money now. Can we have him?” she asked gently.

“You can make him better?” Beth questioned with big eyes.

“We’re going to try,” Emma responded, slowly pulling the stuffed animal away from their daughter. “We’re going to do our best.”

“Be gentle with him. I don’t want him to feel any pain,” Beth responded, looking anxious.

Emma merely nodded before standing up to join her husband. Killian motioned her to join him into the dining area. He sat down in one of the chairs before motioning for his wife to do the same.

“I need you to hold our patient down while I sew him up,” Killian said, placing the sewing kit down on the table.

“You know how to sew?” Emma asked incredulously.

Killian scoffed.

“Any sailor worth his salt knows how to sew, Swan,” he remarked. “How else do you mend sails in the middle of a voyage? Or clothes for that matter? Not much spare cloth at sea.”

Emma didn’t respond, just placed Money on the table as Killian put the needle in his mouth before picking up the white thread and attending to threading it. He hadn’t sewn in a while and doing it one handed tended to be tricky.

“Do you want me to do it?” Emma asked softly after a few attempts.

“If you don’t mind, love,” Killian replied, taking the needle from his mouth and handing it to her along with the white thread.

He tried not to be frustrated with himself as Emma threaded the needle on her first try. Instead, he tried to focus on the task at hand - fixing his daughter’s special toy.

“We’re not going to be able to put him through the wash anymore, are we?” Emma asked quietly as Killian went to work.

“Probably not,” Killian admitted. “He’s going to be a little…delicate after this. It might be best to go with spot cleaning after this. He’s quite filthy though.”

“That’s because she brings him everywhere,” Emma sighed. “He’s more traveled than Ducky Cookie and Blankie combined. I try to stop her from bringing him to daycare with her, but she’s sneaky. She gets that from you.”

Killian looked up from his task with raised eyebrows.

“Really? You’re going to push that one on me?”

“Of course,” Emma replied, raising both eyebrows at him as if daring him to question her.

Killian sighed, but said nothing as he returned to his primary focus. He kept the stitches as tight and neat as possible, which was a difficult thing, considering his one-handedness. When he was done, he surveyed his work with mixed emotions.

“I should have gotten the other leg back,” he muttered quietly.

“Given the situation at hand, I think you did the best you could. At least you got most of him back. I don’t think the lack of leg is going to stop her from loving him,” Emma said gently.

She leaned forward, took his hand in hers and gave it a squeeze.

“Shall we return the patient to his rightful owner?” Killian asked quietly.

“Probably,” Emma chuckled. “I’m surprised that she hasn’t just barged in her to make sure he’s okay.”

When they returned to the living room, both parents were surprised to see Beth holding Harrison’s precious Ducky Cookie in her arms, her thumb rubbing over the bear’s ear in the same fashion she often did with her stuffed dog. Along with the teddy bear, Wes’s Blankie was draped over her shoulders. Both brothers were cuddled into her side, watching whatever cartoon was on the television screen. A smile graced Killian’s lips as he surveyed the scene. He never felt prouder of his boys than he did in this moment.

Beth noticed them first, placing Ducky Cookie back into Harrison’s arms and allowing Blankie to fall from her shoulders as she slipped out from between Harrison and Wes and approached her parents cautiously.

Killian, for the third time that day, got down on his knees and placed Money gingerly in Beth’s hands.

“He okay?” she asked quietly, her fingers tracing over Killian’s stitching job.

“Aside from being a three-legged dog instead of a four legged one? Yes, he’s going to live,” Killian replied with a tight smile. “He’s just a bit…he’s a bit like me now…”

Beth’s eyes flickered to Killian’s handless arm for a moment before looking down at her stuffed animal. She hugged it tighter to her chest.

“He’s even more special now then,” she declared, giving the dog a kiss on the head.

Killian swallowed thickly, not sure how to respond to such a statement. There were emotions flaring up inside him that he hadn’t expected.

“You’re going to have to be more careful with him now,” Killian said gently, pushing back his own feelings. “He’s going to need you to be gentler with him. He can’t be dragged across all the realms anymore. He’s going to get tired and want to sleep more. Do you understand?”

Beth nodded, tucking Money under her chin and closing her eyes.

“Thank you, Daddy,” she said quietly as she rubbed her cheek against the top of Money’s head. “I love you.”

Killian kissed the top of her head.

“I love you too, Minnow.”

Sakura’s mental issues

as it wasn’t obvious enough before its becoming more and more apparent in the animated version that Sakura has very serious mental issues

let’s recap :

-after being put in a torturing genjutsu and being told flat out to her face by Sasuke that he does not love her and he never will , she still acts like a pathetic 12 year old self fangirl and begs the same guy to follow him in his redemption journey

-later on after Naruto and Hinata married , probably out of jealousy , she chases the guy who doesn’t give two crap about her , has a 2 minute date with him with no kiss , gets pregnant and she’s sent back to konoha pregnant as a single mother

- she snaps out of Sarada for questioning her obvious dysfunctional relationship and throws a full force punch in the ground , almost injuring her and destroying their house as a result

-when Sasuke makes a visit to the village after avoiding her for 12 years, she pathetically complains about him refusing her advances again

-she’s talking alone by herself on a bench and daydreams about her non existent relationship with Sasuke

-she’s oblivious to the shitty shameful situation she put herself in while everybody is shocked (Naruto ,Ino , probably her parents as well )

And these are all facts from the manga .

I know several people studying psychology whom I asked about Sakura’s case and they all told me its a result of very low self esteem and delusional disorder

If you care enough for Sakura as a character , for her and your mental sake you wouldn’t ship her with Sasuke. If you ship her with Sasuke as a crack pair its fine , but if you ship her with him while biasedly trying ignore some parts of canon or interpreting canon in a way to bend your delusions , then I would worry about your mental state and I would suggest a visit to the doctor.

Out of jealousy? She could have had naruto, she had him, if she was so jealous of Hinata hime end her relationship with naruto then she wouldn't have gave naruto a speech about love, and she was smiling at the wedding, obviously happy for her dear friend and teammate.

A guy that doesn't give a crap about her, you mean the guy that rushed to help her when she was kidnapped by Kido, and the guy that broke into orochimaru's hideout is hast cause he was worried about his wife?

The one who doesn't care is naruto, who does he think off when Sarada gives him a bento? Not of his wife who made it, but of sasuke and sakura, the people who cared about him from the beginning till the end.

And seriously? Sasuke and sakura had sex and the didn't kiss? Just how old are you?

And she ain't a single mother, she's married, and she's proud of her clan and of her husband as shown by wearing the crest and displaying it proudly, unlike a certain hime that doesn't even bother with her own clans crest.

Almost injuring her? Where? Sarada didn't even take a step back from sakura when she did that, that indicates that she wasn't afraid.

And sarada was being extremely rude, she even admitted it herself, but your right, sakura should just leave her kids say whatever they want like hinata, which will result in a brat like boruto who wishes naruto was dead and wants to give his mother a piece of his mind for making lunch for his father.

And sakura works, raises sarada alone, she has the right to get angry, unlike hinata hime that lived it easy and still threatens her son with a byakugan.

Pathetically? That's comedy my friend, in the viz trans, she said he will give a rain check, that means that he's just teasing her and he's going to kiss her later.

Shameful? You mean respecting her husbands decision to go protect the world? But I have to point here that naruto wanted to put his family in the same position since he offered to go with him, but sasuke declined since he wanted naruto to become hokage, that happened in the kage summit in a chapter of gaiden.

Sakura's parents probably boast to everybody that the strongest kunoichi in konoha is their daughter.

If you care about your self-respect and your own mental state, I'd suggest you get out of my blog and stop putting your delusional bullshit on my posts.

Ohh and I 'd recommend getting some help reading too, cause someone who properly read naruto would think your talking about another manga with how much delusion you spewed.

I needed to write about my relationship with women on vikings and especially with Aslaug for weeks.

Firstly, I've seen many posts here talking about how Hirst kills female characters on this show, and the thing I have to say to this is : hell yes, y'all right. I used to love Vikings to the bones for its female characters, Lagertha(s1-2), Helga, Siggy senior, Porunn, Aslaug and Kwentrith, for example. Not mentioning all the loss of potential with all these characters and more. Cough cough- Yidu.

The only proper, and proper is a huge word, death a woman had in this show is actually Siggy senior, dying as she lived, bravely.

We never had the chance to see what Gyda, Thyri and Siggy Bjornsdottir could become. We actually never had the chance to see any female characters growing up in the viking world surrounded by men. Let us be honest, the women are the heart of this show. Fearless, fierce, brave women. Beginning with Aslaug, yeah, well, that's the all point of this post.

Like everyone else who started watching Vikings without any knowledge of the norsemen culture, I disliked her when she showed up. And I think that if you're not that interested in understanding the characters of this show, you'll stay stuck thinking Aslaug is a homewrecker.

The main point I like about Queen Aslaug is Alyssa Sutherland. The amount of hate she gets on social networks for protraying this character is disgusting. Yet, she stays polite and kind-hearted, and she is very protective of Aslaug. I honestly think that we couldn't have dream for a better actress to play the queen Aslaug is.

I recently watched a 40min long interview of her speaking of Aslaug. And you should all listen to it very carefully. Stop pretending Lagertha is a usurped victim. In the first EVER episode of Vikings, Lagertha says to Ragnar not to sleep with too many women in Kattegat. That says a lot about their relationship. Lagertha DECIDED to leave her husband because he humiliated her. And for that, I looked at her with a large amount of respect. Lagertha has been through many shit, so did Aslaug. Ragnar only was to blame for this. HE decided to sleep with another woman, who could bare him sons. What asshole could leave his wife cause she can't give him sons?(Henry VIII, and I think Hirst has a lot of Henry VIII issues to deal with).

Like Alyssa pointed out in this interview, Aslaug grew up alone, as an orphan. She is a volva(not a witch as catholic meant it), she « sees things other cannot ». She knew when she met him that she bound to give Ragnar his sons. And I don't mean she isn't cunning, of course she is. And clever enough to become queen. When she realize that she is pregnant with Ragnar's child, her only concern is for her son not to grow up without knowing his famous father, like she did. Imo, this was not out of ambition, but mainly for her child to be born. Alyssa also said that Aslaug is scared of Lagertha, and that she keeps her in high respect. In series two, Aslaug actually says that she would like to be more like Lagertha. She knows Lagertha is a fierce shield-maiden, with a HUGE pride. And that's why she also left Ragnar to go make her own fame and history. Again, like Katheryn said in an interview to promote season two, « If there is anyone to blame, it should be Ragnar. I don't think Lagertha blames Aslaug for this. »

So what is this 4B bullshit again ? Fanservice.

When Hirst wants us to look for strong women on this show, he makes them shieldmaidens. What about Helga, what about Siggy senior ? What about Kwentrith, Aslaug, Judith, making their own way without being in a shieldwall ?

I mean it like I say it, Aslaug never murdered Ragnar in his sleep for her children. He raped her, yes Ivar is born of a rape, sorry. He beaten her(If s1-2 Lagertha had known this, she would have murdered Ragnar herself, being a victim of an abusive husband too). She had all the reasons to kill him, and imo she never did for her sons. So, thanks to shitty writing, she wasn't the best mother but in the other hand, she cared for her children. She took care of them, raised them when Ragnar felt like he didn't want to be king anymore. Wow, daddy of the year. She rose Kattegat to the title of major trading center, and kept it secure. Of what we saw, the « look what mess she made of my home » was not canon at all. This storyline bares many contradictions it makes me angry. Both for Aslaug and Lagertha.

Hirst tried his best to make her a villain. The saddest part of this is that the one scene when Ragnar comes to apologise to his wife was Travis's idea. Hirst gave so much zero fucks that he didn't have this idea. Cause Ragnar and Lagertha forever. Even I, wouldn't do that with my one true otp.

What of « women should stick together more, and we should rule » ? Lagertha forgave Aslaug, in season two it was water clear. And suddenly, she became power hungry for a place she left willingly twenty years ago ? I rolled my eyes so much I saw my brain. And on what purpose ? It almost looks like she was taking Kattegat back to rule with Ragnar again. Yo, Lagertha deserves better than this shit. That was stupid and out of character.

In one of the latest episodes, Sigurd says « What is a warrior without his honor ? » Well, apparently queen. Since murdering someone with an arrow in his back in acting with honor.

Now back to Aslaug and how she deserved better than to be pregnant 1,5/3 season she was alive. She is the daughter of a dragon slayer and the most famous shieldmaiden to ever live, for Odin sake. We never had a chance to see how she ruled when Ragnar was raiding or being selfish in exile. Everyone just assumed that she ruled badly. Ragnar is allowed to sleep around but not her ? Even if at this point of season three, imo she didn't give anymore fuck about Ragnar. She asks him to come home for his sons, only for them. Bjorn is allowed to give up on his daughter and everyone assumed that Aslaug was responsible for her life and well-being ? It's more easy to blame her than one of the mighty sons of Ragnar, isn't it ? Don't forget that, at this point, Aslaug was completely alone with five children to look after, neglected by her husband who was everything but kind and gentle to her. And that she felt betrayed by a man she cared about, once again.

I don't mean men to be role model fathers but come on, Rollo leaving Gisla on her own in Normandy, not knowing if his nephew would kill him ? Ragnar leaving for almost ten years ? Bjorn not minding his own daughter death ?

Aslaug freed Porunn so she could become what she wanted, a shieldmaiden and be with Bjorn. Aslaug freed Yidu so she could leave if she wanted to. Aslaug took risks to keep Ivar alive, risk even to have her own people hating her, fearing to be cursed by Ivar illness.

I would've liked to see more of Helga/Siggy/Aslaug friendship. But women on this show are only worthy of attention if they can fight in battle, apparently. Proof is that Helga is going mad, Aslaug is dead, Siggy too, Kwentrith too. Judith and Gisla character development ? Destroyed to enlight men's storylines. Honestly, Ubbe saying that he and Hvitserk aren't jealouse cause they are « vikings » ? Rolled my eyes once more. Margrethe deserves better than being a Ragnarssons sex toy. Astrid deserves better than watching her lover lamenting herself over her one true lost love.

Aslaug not teaching her sons to be respectful of women is what made me even more angry with this season. Being neglected herself by their father, whom she loved truly once upon a time, I don't think she would EVER allow them to treat women like things. Even Torvi's development is reduced to ashes now. And I was honestly rooting for her at the end of 4A. She should remind Bjorn that she still have this crossbow she killed her second husband with, sometimes.

I admired Lagertha in the first seasons, but now I can't recognize her anymore. It's hard not to be resentful toward her since 4B started even if it’s all the writer’s fault. Even Katheryn is lost with all this, she doesn’t know on which foot to dance on interviews. Season four actually destroyed more characters than I could mention.

Writing strong female characters isn't writing them acting in a manly way. Female characters are diverse, powerful and brave in many ways, not only in a shieldwall. Stop killing off women Hirst, please. And give Lagertha her mind she seem to have lost.

canon divergencies in characters.

i'll try and keep these as short as i can, but basically if you want to know where any timelines or portrayals differ from general canon then here's a master list for everyone. i'll update this for any muses i add or remove from here. any additional questions then just drop me a line. there will be spoilers for various fandoms. if any muses i have don't appear on this list then either there's no canon divergency to consider or i'm still in the process of deciding these things, again, feel free to just ask about it.

general.

tracy mcconnell. this one is kind of obvious but basically my tracy did not die at the end of the series and by extention ted did not wind up with robin after this, regardless of how much time had passed. ted and tracy both ended up together, had two beautiful kids penny and luke, and tracy was there for her daughter's wedding.

luke skywalker. i'm fine with everything that happened in the last jedi. i know a lot of other people weren't, but i'm cool with it. i didn't want luke to die particularly, but i'm okay with the fact that he did. i'm happy to write things with luke as a force ghost or luke if he had survived the finale fight.

elena gilbert. this is less a divergence of elena herself but more the general direction of the show that i didn't really enjoy. so with that everything after season three is considered to be divergent from the show. my particular peeves were plec's lack of care about elena's career goals from this point (aka the doctor thing) and her absence from the show after season six (aka why would you get rid of the main character of your show you dumb fucks). i'm fine with elena waking up as a vampire at the end of season three and the reveal of her and damon meeting before she met stefan.

loki laufeyson. no real canon divergency here. loki's death was heartbreaking and i definitely didn't want it to happen but i'm okay that it did and how well it was done. i will say here though that i do believe that loki was under some partial influence from the scepter during the attack on new york, but i'm not condoning anything either. that's just my five cents on the matter.

jess mariano. ooh, boy okay. so .. the kyle's bedroom thing. i wanna make it clear that jess, or my jess, or just how i saw things personally, was not going to rape rory. yes he was pushy and his behaviour that night was all around shitty and i do not excuse it for a moment, but he never would have gone all the way forcing her. and the first thing he did after the fight was apologise to her when he saw her next. that's just the tea for me. everything with a year in the life was cool with me i just wish there had been more scenes of him haha.

tony stark. the 'zuccini' comment just did not happen. k. thanks. bye.

natasha romanoff. i have my own bio for nat which you can read here. it's really the best guide for what i consider to be natasha's story, which is basically my own accumulation of natasha's appearances and history in the films and comics, so it would be nice also if no one stole what i wrote. also just a smol thing that the natasha and bruce trash romance did not happen here.

damon salvatore. similar to above that i have little to complain about with damon himself but with what way the show went after season three. i do think that damon's motivations and relationships with particular characters weren't put across properly to the audience, so i'll be here to clear up those instances. i'm okay with the damon and caroline thing, i don't ship them or i don't agree with what he did but i won't label it as rape. i'm not a survivor myself so i'm not telling anyone how to feel about it, to me i just think that caroline did want to sleep with him in the beginning but not after he attacked her and they didn't sleep together after that fact. the compulsion applied to damon getting her to help with with things in the town and feeding on her, but i don't think he compelled her for sex, so i treat it in that context. however i won't be explicitly writing this side of their relationship and my damon did apologize to her. i'm happy to keep the enzo and damon backstory but not them running off to kill people etc. the sibyl stuff however did not happen, nor the stuff with lily etc.

peter parker. i've seen a lot of the discussions about peter being transgender, i'm not against it in anyway, i actually think its kind of neat. i'm lgbt myself so its awesome to see some representation like that and i fully support all the trans peter's out there. personally for me however, i see peter as still figuring things out in all aspects of his life, including who he is as himself and being a friendly neighbourhood spiderman. so i'm not against exploring a trans peter in the near future, or atleast figuring that out, but for now i just think peter is too all over the place to put a label on himself either way, so he won't refer to himself as trans or otherwise, or who he's interested in sexually or romantically. it's all just one big figuring things out schtick, so be patient with him.

rory gilmore. okay so i liked the reunion series aka a year in the life but i didn't personally think that rory's arc was the best so i'm going to negate it entirely and do my own thing with it, whatever that will be. my biggest peeves really was her attitude to certain job prospects and her falling back into a crappy relationship with logan - which i never really cared for in the original series anyway. i can acknowledge that rory and logan were a thing back then, it actually lends to rory's conclusion at the end of that season but i won't write shippy things for them going forward, and i'm not even that keen in writing past shippy stuff for them. i'm a hardcore rory and jess shipper, so while she didn't wait around for him either, i'm totally down for them getting together.

sam winchester. the whole becky rosen debacle did not happen. this includes them meeting, the love potion and the mess that was their 'marriage’. it just did not happen. becky rosen does not exist here. sam did not kill emma. if dean were to have a daughter then sam would not just kill her, monster or not, he would try to help first and probably to a fault, like he did with jack. there was never a romantic attachment with ruby. they were work partners of circumstance, they both used each other and slept together and ruby did manipulate him. sam has all his memories of the cage, due to the immense torture he went under during that time, a good portion of his 'memory’ is down to sensation, sight, sound, feeling, ect. from this its hard for him to say whether or not he was sexually abused / raped by lucifer in the cage. he was most definitely tortured and he retains the feelings of being violated in every way imaginable, but he doesn’t have a solid picture in his head of what exactly happened or atleast the whole of what happened.

dean winchester. though the show isn’t explicit with dean’s sexuality, my dean is considered to be a closeted bisexual. he has an interest in men and at times doesn’t hide it well and is very in denial about it. he’s never gotten a chance to even experiment it or entertain the idea due to the kind of life he lives, i.e. being a hunter. he will be very concerned about getting into a relationship or even a romantic entanglement with another guy, but it’s not to say its something he doesn’t want with the right person. dean was a demon for a lot longer than the show portrayed, we’re talking months and not weeks. dean loved being a demon, not looking back on it now, it makes him feel unclean whenever he thinks about it, but as a demon dean was as dangerous as they come and it took several botched attempts to bring him down by sam and castiel before they were eventually able to catch him.

john winchester. sam and dean were never beaten by john or harmed physically by him, who never would have raised a hand to his kids over anything. he wasn’t a perfect dad, he was a man grieving his wife and he made mistakes, he made his boys grow up too soon bc he couldn’t stand the idea of them not being ready someone or something tried to hurt them. no john winchester hate will be accepted here. john did tell dean to kill sam if he went evil. not because he didn’t believe in sam or hated him for anything. they had both made their peace with each other before john died. john just didn’t want his son to be corrupted or become something he wasn’t, he didn’t want azazael’s plan for sam to ever come to fruition. he wanted sam safe and himself always.

mary winchester. sleeping with ketch did not happen. bc good god, no. she was grieving her husband, john was the one. she would not jump into bed with a shit like ketch. that is all. mary did abandon the boys for the british men of letters. she was dealing with coming back to life, being a mother to two grown boys, grieving a dead husband and now living in a time and place completely different to her own time. she was adjusting to her new situation and granted she did not deal with that very well. i won’t make excuses for her in that respect but she didn’t do it out of spite or dislike for her sons.

My wife and I are in our 40's and 50's. We have created A/B trusts and transferred our assets to them, and expect to have estates that will benefit from the estate tax saving these trusts afford. We recently both purchased $1M 10-year renewable term life insurance policies that we expect to keep for 10 years. We chose not to use life insurance trusts because the purpose of the policies is to replace the lost income of the deceased spouse if one of us dies relatively soon, not to increase our final estate, and the trusts are somewhat costly. We each specified our own trusts as the beneficiaries, because we want the disposition of assets specified there to be used for this money. The trusts provide for the income, and principle if needed, to be paid to the spouse, and for the remainder to be paid to our child at the remaining spouses death. The question of ownership of the policies is less clear. My lawyer says that it doesn't make much difference who owns them, because the value (estate) taxed is only one year's premium, not the $1M.
