He knew his body’s input signals were near flat-line. Under normal circumstances, a triggered regeneration would have been the best he could hope for, but here in deep space with little or no environmental feedback, a regeneration would be both a colossal waste of energy – energy the body needed at the cellular level to hold back the abnormal and dysfunctional cells that were developing and fix the damage done by the expansion of ice in the bloodstream and tissue.

Any regeneration under those circumstances couldn’t possibly be stable; once triggered it would cause a cascade effect, setting off all his remaining regenerative cycles, burning then out in a futile attempt to adapt to deep space.

Hopefully a futile attempt.

There were old horror stories on Gallifrey about Time Lords forced into chain regenerations in alien environments, each step in the chain changing them further away from the accepted norms of their culture. Sometimes in the early days of the exploration of time and space, they would come back, only to be quietly killed, or walled up in their own TARDISes. He had wondered once if he kept regenerating in human company whether he would grow more and more like them – and look how that had turned out. Ten minutes.

The age when regenerationally challenged individuals would be hidden away as a House’s shame or stasered into unrecognisable protoplasm had been a brutal time, of course, aeons ago. A Dark Time. In his day such an accident would be greeted only with kindness, with pity and the dedicated care of the Hospitalers.

Even so. If he was to die here and now, it would be in his present flesh, not as something his companions would never recognise. He knew now he was going to die; there might be ways out of this but he couldn’t stop regulating his body long enough to think. Twelve minutes gone now.

Remus Lupin, a reluctant but scrappy fighter in the war against Voldemort, is sent on an Order mission. A run-in with a Death Eater—who happens to be the most handsome man he's ever seen—sets him on a path towards destruction and God, he loves it along the way.

A hoot at his window scares Remus out of his half-daydream about the man with the sharp grin and the wave of black hair. He jumps a fucking mile and nearly falls out of bed, catching himself with a hand on the floor. “Fuck,” he murmurs, aching something fierce from the fight last night—or rather, the early hours of this morning. 

The owl at the window is a terrifying and regal thing, with sharp eyes. Remus gets a horrible feeling that he knows who this owl will be from. But how has he found Remus, and so quickly? He lives in Clapham, for God’s sake, no one thinks of Clapham.

OC Post: Vivianne Bradley

1. Vivianne Bradley (née Fairfax)

2. Loosely based on English actress Tamsin Grieg, except in the first story she appears, she wears her hair long.

3. She fits into the original Modern Warfare (2007) universe, appearing as the wife of the original Gaz, and subsequently reappears as his widow and supporting BFF of Captain Price's terminally anxious wife.

Vivianne met Gaz long before the events of Modern Warfare (2007), when he and his colleagues were posted to the Siege of Clapham College. At the time, she was an art student. They were casual partners for several years until she graduated and without any immediate prospects, agreed to stay with him in Hereford to clear her head and consider the direction her life was going to take. She loved Gaz, and he loved her deeply in return.

Over the years of their marriage, she has made a success of herself as both an artist and owner of a small gallery, meaning that both her and Gaz live comfortably in an old vicarage that they rescued from ruin, with their two children, up until he is killed at the end of Modern Warfare (2007).

Vivianne comes from an old aristocratic family: she is the fourth child of the Duke of Essex, who owns Schiltron Tactical and her uncle, General Lord Sir Robert Fairfax, is director general of special forces, a fact that is only discovered after she is engaged to Gaz. She is estranged from both of her parents; although they do reconnect after she marries Gaz, largely through the machinations of her uncle.

The fact that Vivianne and Gaz are so poorly matched in terms of social class is a major thorn in the side of the senior regimental officers (and Price). None of them knew that their was a relationship between the posh bird that Gaz brought up from London and the big boss until she's recognised at a medal ceremony by the DG himself.

Vivianne is a crack shot, having grown up shooting on her parents estate. There was once an attempt to run a shooting course for regimental wives and girlfriends, which the men who dreamed up the idea thought would be a laugh right up until Vivianne outpointed every single one of the instructors and wouldn't stop laughing because she was having so much fun.

I’m really hoping there won’t be a lot of students around at Dulwich next month to see the strange American woman wandering the cricket fields trying to retrace Mike Jackson’s steps

but not only that, I’d like to track down Psmith-related locations in the Strand etc., and an English/art major who’s part of our tour group wants to see a Monet exhibit at the National Gallery, which just so happens to be right in the middle of the part of London featured most prominently in the series, so the two of us are plotting an Adventure.
