It isn't easy, mainly because at a certain point it requires a deeper backbend getting into it than when you're finally in the pose. Take your time with this one. Lots of shoulder and hip flexors opening, balance focus, and warm back. Here is a step-by-step breakdown of how to work it!⠀ .⠀ PREP: working mermaid (mer... person?) variation will help you gauge whether you're ready. Bring this into play as often as possible when building toward this, and over time you'll notice a certain depth and comfort which is the signal that you're ready to progress.⠀ .⠀ STEP 1: Foot tray. This requires a lot of external rotation of the whole arm. Start in one handed dancer (the other hand can hold a wall), flip your palm up and almost in (thumb in, pinky out) and FLEX your lifted foot, sole to the sky, to grip the inner edge and top of the foot. Like you're holding a tray, but its your foot. ☡ Crucial step then is to INHALE once you have your foot as you kick it back and stick out your chest forward.⠀ .⠀ STEP 2: As you EXHALE, draw the foot in by bending your arm and bringing your elbow down and in toward your hip, beginning to turn your chest a little more forward.⠀ .⠀ STEP 3: Continue rotating your chest forward, and as you INHALE, rotate your elbow (which was down low from the last step) OUT away from your body and UP toward the sky. From there slowly sweep the other arm overhead and back to grip your opposite elbow or wrist and work your way to the foot (deepening here is always a work in progress). Elbows wrap in and up.⠀ .⠀ FINAL STEP: gripping the foot, and balancing, continue bringing shoulder blades together to open the upper back as you lift the back inner knee high without lifting that hip. So take caution practicing yoga if you are recently deceased... or reanimated. #TheWalkingDead I have chosen the theme #MindfulMonsters for the very first Blocktober challenge. I think at some point we can all relate to these monsters, whether it’s because we feel like an outsider that just doesn’t fit in or perhaps because somebody else has convinced us that we are just no good. 👿 Practicing mindfulness has allowed me to sit with my mind and understand why it causes suffering. And in this understanding, I’ve been able to find a place of peace and contentment. 😌 So consider trying out meditation and yoga if you find yourself struggling with the monster inside! Try to have all the four points of your left foot pressing on the floor with the fingers wide open. Keep the left leg active and strong. 2. Bend your right knee and grab your foot with your right hand keeping your palm up and your elbow bent. Press with your left foot on your mat and keep the leg active not to lose balance. 3. Now take a big inhale and as you exhale begin to rotate your elbow out, in and up until your elbow is facing the sky. 4. and 5. Now bring the other hand to your foot. Start grabbing your elbow than slowly walk your way to the foot. 6. Now square your hips and pull your leg up, as much as you can, opening and lifting your chest and slightly leaning forward. Nothing keeps me coming back to my mat every morning like being able to do something I've never imagined I could, this morning, for the first time, I managed to flip my grip in #natarajasana For me, the key to unlocking this pose was working on quad flexibility, yoga has tonnes of poses that stretch out the back of the legs, hamstrings, not so many that focus solely on the quads. Having worked every day, with breath and patience on stretching mine out, I managed to lift my back leg high enough to flip my grip 😊 Of course flexibility in the upper back, chest and shoulders plays a big role.
