Gowrow: A Legendary Monster from Arkansas Folklore

The Gowrow is known for its terrifying "gowrow" noise, which it makes while slaughtering its prey, including humans, livestock, and pets.

According to the story, a businessman named William Miller encountered the gowrow while traveling in the Ozarks and formed a posse to hunt it down. They tracked the creature to its lair, a cave filled with animal and human remains, and killed it after a fierce battle. While lying in wait for the monster, the earth shook as it emerged from a nearby lake, and the posse fired several volleys at it, eventually killing it. Before its demise, the colossal creature, measuring twenty feet long, uprooted trees and severed the leg of one of the posse members.

An inspection of the remains unveiled a beast with two tusks, webbed feet with claws, a row of short horns along its back, and a long tail with a blade at the end. Despite Williams' assertion of sending the body to the Smithsonian Institution, it never reached the museum in Washington DC.

Folklore collector Vance Randolph provided additional details about the gowrow, suggesting it may have been reported as early as the 1880s. He described the gowrow as a species rather than a single creature, with young hatching from large eggs and the mother carrying them in a pouch.

Randolph also shared stories of encounters with the gowrow, including one involving a spelunker in Devil's Hole and another about a man who captured a gowrow by feeding it dried apples until it became too large to escape its burrow.

Explaining the TFA Y/N aka. U-02 Lores

Y/N was built before war when they were newly forged young adult frame.The Autobots found them in the debris as they fixed them for so many hours to make a new parts to find other metal In debris and broken buildings that were found on the ground. They replied in emotionless,dull,blunt,robotic voice. The Autobots didn’t like their voice as they gave them the programming to learn how to fight and have emotions instead of a boring personality that Ultra Magnus wants them to be.They opened their optics to see a crowd of Autobots they didn’t even know them. Ultra Magnus walked in as he introduced himself. Y/N or U-02 began to know everyone in the base and began to train for the wars.U-02 doesn’t remember what their past lives is…they were newly forged before its happened and that the building broke down.

Ultra Magnus began to assign Ratchet to be U-02 mentor Ratchet wasn’t impressed at first that they’re not the medic but a war frame for combats and power.

Ratchet began to get close to Y/N as he see them as his own creation and even hang out more often.

One day Ratchet meets Arcee and he took her in the Autobots base U-02 is now mature and tall as they stares at Arcee to examine that’s she’s a femme U-02 was raised by mechs in their life. U-02 meets Omega Supreme in person as they stared at him in awed that he is the Autobots only secret project and a weapon. U-02 doesn’t feel lonely anymore when they see him.

After all the Autobots went offline in war….they feel so done with it.

Their anger boiled as they stormed off to fight Megatron as they shouted the last words to Ratchet. “LEAVE ME ALONE I CAN HANDLE IT MYSELF.”

Ratchet tried to stop U-02 but Ultra Magnus stopped Ratchet to get them,Ultra Magnus have a frown on his face that was dangerous.

U-02 began to sneaks in Megatron base as they faced off against him on top of the base as they have a showdown to fight of him.

After many fights U-02 won the fight against Megatron as the Decepticon fled away.

Ratchet comes to a debris to see a hands as he pushes the debris away he saw…U-02 broken and mangled frame as Ratchet held their offline frame as he held them close to him. Having sad frown on his faceplate.

After the war ends hundred years later U-02 is in the glass tube,Ratchet vist them more often…as Ratchet meets the rookies as he was about to get in the ship he heard a familiar voice.

“Heya old man how’s it going.”

“U-02?”

“Yep in the metal Ratchet.”

i don't really like when people say dungeon meshi is accidentally good autistic representation, because while i understand not wanting to make conclusions without explicit confirmation from the author, there's always the weird assumption that non-western authors somehow don't know about things like neurodivergency/queerness/etc. (on top of the assumptions that east asian authors are somehow more naive or oblivious to "western" social issues).

given that dungeon meshi started being published in 2014, it's not really a "work belonging to its times"—it's as contemporary as any other media we discuss on this site, which means it should be fair to assume it engages with contemporary topics (and at the very least, you shouldn't say that the representation is accidental with so much confidence)

but anyways, the chapter "perfect communication" in ryoko kui's "terrarium in a drawer" is some of the most straightforward autistic representation I've seen, and from now on I'm going to assume that laios's character writing is absolutely intentional in that regard:

Alkali Lake Monster: A Cryptid from Nebraska.

Reports of the monster began in August 1921, and the first written account appeared in the Hay Springs News in 1922. While some connect sightings of the monster to Native American legends, the first written account dates back to a 1922 issue of the Hay Springs News. One of the earliest accounts by a local man named J.A. Johnson described a dull grey or brown animal similar to an alligator, but much larger and heavier with a horn between its eyes and nostrils. Johnson and two others claimed to see the monster from twenty yards away and estimated it to be about forty feet long and emit a foul odor.

As time went on, the legend of the monster evolved to include supposed supernatural abilities, such as causing earthquakes and disorienting travelers with a thick, green mist.

Some researchers suggest that the creature was a hoax perpetrated by John G. Maher, a reporter known for tall tales and hoaxes. Maher worked for several newspapers and was paid only for stories that were printed, which may have incentivized him to fabricate sensational stories. The Alkali Lake area experienced a severe drought between 1889 and 1890, causing the lake to shrink significantly, raising questions about how a 40-foot monster could have appeared in the lake just 30 years later.

Sightings of the Alkali Lake Monster declined after the 1920s, leading researchers to believe that the creature either died or moved to another lake.
