Summary: Merlin Emrys is used to living life on the go. As an agent for the Agency of Magic, Merlin’s days are consumed by travel, exotic locations, and battling a faceless rival -- an officer from the competing Bureau of Corrections, who is always hot on his heels and ready to one-up him.
When Merlin is sent on a mission to Las Vegas to secure a powerful artifact, he allows himself one night off. Just one, because he bloody deserves it. Drinks and foreplay lead to a bet with a hot financial advisor he just met. Merlin ends up as a newlywed. Oops.

Mike Smith, Las Vegas Review Journal ::  [Scott Horton]

Robert Reich nails the GOP lies about Democrats.
Reader Phil S. called my attention to a terrific blog by Robert Reich on Substack, The 3 biggest GOP lies of the midterms. I highly recommend Reich’s essay in its entirety, but in case you are pressed for time, here are the high points of Reich’s effective messaging to rebut GOP lies:
Lie No. 1: “Democrats are soft on crime.”
Response: “Rubbish. Rising crime rates are due to the proliferation of guns, which Republicans refuse to control.”
Lie No. 2: “Inflation is due to Biden’s spending, and wage increases.”
Response: “Baloney. Biden’s spending can’t be causing our current inflation because inflation has broken out everywhere around the world, often at much higher rates than in the US.”
Lie No. 3: “Democrats voted to hire an army of IRS agents who will audit and harass the middle class.”
Response: “Wrong. The IRS won’t be going after the middle class. It will be going after ultra-wealthy tax cheats. The IRS has said that audit rates for households earning $400,000 or under will remain same.”
Another “under the radar” victory for President Biden.
For reasons that remain unclear but maddening, the media has again ignored another major achievement by President Biden. Max Boot discusses a diplomatic agreement brokered by the US that has eluded previous administrations for forty years. See Max Boot, Washington Post, Opinion | Biden just pulled off a big diplomatic victory — and almost no one noticed. The agreement relates to a seemingly technical issue (a maritime demarcation) between two countries that have no diplomatic relations—Israel and Lebanon. As Boot explains,
Trump and Netanyahu couldn’t get a deal done; Biden and [Israeli Prime Minister] Lapid did. Israel’s security establishment is firmly in favor of the deal not only because it will help safeguard Israel’s natural gas fields but also because it will help bolster the Lebanese government and economy. Israel does not want a failed state next door.
“Lebanon has, for the first time, entered a kind of de facto recognition of Israel and its borders,” writes Daniel B. Shapiro, a former U.S. ambassador to Israel.
That’s something for which the Biden administration deserves a lot of credit — just as the Trump administration deserved credit for the Abraham Accords. It just goes to show that diplomacy does pay off sometimes — even if we don’t always give it the attention it deserves.

Today the Biden administration opened the website to apply for relief from student debt, a policy that is expected to benefit 43 million Americans directly and others tangentially as debt relief frees up family resources. The administration also announced that the Food and Drug Administration’s final rule concerning Biden’s Executive Order on Promoting Competition in the American Economy went into effect today, making hearing aids available over the counter and thereby lowering costs for the devices by as much as $3,000 a pair.

More Dreams
This dream was weird (like any of the dreams I have are "normal"). I was running towards a city. There was a giant dome that was the center of this city, lots of people were heading that way. I got closer to the gate, closer to the stone wall...everything seemed fake, like everything was made out of modeling clay and put together with bits and pieces...like I was in a fourth-grade art project.
Next thing I feel is that I am being pulled without moving into what I can only describe as the "backroom". Everything was the same just like in the stories about the "backroom" I felt a tiny bit of panic and I knew I had to get out of there. I started running and I kept repeating to myself that I would get out. I had to get out. I knew I would get out. I was carrying my white ferret with me. She was my anchor piece like in the movie Inception. I kept my eye on a particular spot just above the wall and eventually other people started to appear, so I knew I was okay and looking at my ferret, I knew I was all right.
I am hurrying through what I can only believe was a shopping mall full of people. I am starting to panic because I had to get out, I had to get home before I got in trouble. I was starting to hyperventilate but kept pushing. I did not want to get in trouble. I felt my ex was around and that's why I was panicking. I saw him. That motherfucker was standing in a beam of sunlight, wearing white linen pants and doing his very best to convince everyone that he was a good man. His head was down, like he was embarrassed to have the spotlight on him, and no one would go near him. I got angry. I would not allow him to do this to me. I picked my head up, squared my shoulders, turned my back to him and walked away.
Now I am walking down the Los Vegas Strip. Beat Cop to my left, traffic going by, people milling around. My ferret is in my hands, I am petting her, and I am happy. I feel light. Next thing I know I turn around to see a little blonde-haired blue-eyed baby girl. She is barefoot, wearing a tee shirt and diaper and her hair is in two little pigtails. She is crying and no one seems to see her other than me. My ferret is in my hood, I can feel her rooting around. I pick the baby up, hold her close, turn around telling her that we are going home. I walk off into the sunset. In Los Vegas. On the Strip.
