Illustrating a character is fun, but I also need to design the environment. So here is a sketch of a Numenorean outpost

It is said when Melkor fled Valinor, the people of Alqualondë saw a shadow pass their harbor going North, towards the lands of Araman. It was Finwë who had informed the Valar of Melkor's failure to convince Fëanor, and the Valar quickly despatched Oronë and Tulkas to the North to find him.
However, it was a deception. Melkor had disguised himself and fled south, towards the southern wastelands of Avathar, in search of an old ally.
So even though light returned to Valinor in Melkor's absence, doubt spread into the hearts of the peoples of Aman, like a dark distant cloud growing larger on the horizon, carried by a slow cold wind, and fear of evils yet to come.
I've drawn the shores of Alqualondë, and a statue of Össe, the Ainu spirit of the sea who helped the Teleri cross the ocean. And I've interpreted the "shadow" of Melkor to be an actual ship with dark sails passing the harbor in the distance. But it was a trick by the Elven followers of Melkor...
