Hi there!! So uh, i was wondering (as a baby punk/goth) if you have any suggestions as to how to subtly dress more punk?? I would love to go full out with it, but i couldn’t without getting into an argument, so if you have any tips, let me know :] thank you!!
Ideas for subtly adding alternative elements to outfits:
Safety pins. Add them any and everywhere. I have them on the lapels of almost every jacket I own, and up the back of a pair of converse (possibly being used to keep said pair of converse together). But adding them to bags or as earrings (or hanging from earrings) works just as well!
Band t shirts. You can buy them anywhere and pair them with anything. Simply jeans and a band t shirt are fairly common even for non-alt people
Start adding some black and other dark elements to your outfits. Even if its just a black friendship bracelet. Maybe it has beads on it that spell out a band name?
Learn how to do simple sewing and mending. The more times something is repaired, the cooler it looks in my opinion. AND thats something that is honestly a life skill and everyone should be able to do if they are physically able
Ladder lace your shoes (I have a how to here), its subtle but can tell someone who knows what they are looking for a lot
Ripped jeans are in fashion. Just make your own out of an old pair, it will look more alt and be cheaper. And you can tell your parents that you were just saving money and making ‘cooler jeans than the people who get them pre-ripped’ should work cause a lot of older people seem to have beef with pre-ripped jeans
Go just a *little* heavier on the eye make up (but not so much you get in trouble). And if anyone says anything about it, there are plenty of more mainstream artists you can say you drew inspiration from (Kiss, Mick Jagger, Prince, David Bowie. All musicians that parents are likely to have listened to)
Choose boots, converse, or vans over other options if you have the choice. Other options are fine (and probably cheaper unless you thrift them) but it’s undeniable that those shoes are staples of alt fashion
Simple chain necklace. Get it from a craft store. Its small, its subtle, it can be hidden under your shirt
If you or your family is religious (specifically christian here), get a stylized cross to wear. I have a cool looking metal one made out of nails. You could always claim that it represents something about Jesus’ suffering or something
DIY in general, even if it doesn’t look punk/alt. The fact that it was DIY basically makes it punk/alt
I’m not Goth, nor do I know *much* about Goth fashion, BUT, I think lace is pretty common? And not exclusive to alt spaces, soo you can just say you think its pretty
Any other ideas or tips for anon are welcome of course!!! (Especially on the goth stuff here lol)

Helping Hand 2
Warnings: non/dubcon, mentions of divorce, and other dark elements. My username actually says you never asked for any of this.
Characters: Jonathan Pine, 40s reader
My warnings are not exhaustive but be aware this is a dark fic and may include potentially triggering topics. Please use your common sense when consuming content. I am not responsible for your decisions.
As usual, I would appreciate any and all feedback. I’m happy to once more go on this adventure with all of you! Thank you in advance for your comments and for reblogging.
Tumblr media
A week in and you’re… efficient. Rather, self-sufficient. You can’t say you’re confident but you are starting to figure it out.
The till isn’t so confounding and the customers not so intimidating. It’s easy enough to ask how their day is, if they found everything, and get the rung through. You’ve learned quickly if only to keep Giselle from rolling her eyes at you.
That day, you’re closing. Less than an hour now and you walk the floor, checking for any errant customers to remind them of the coming deadline. There aren’t many, a tall college student wandering through the history section and a couple of older men chatting over a stack of Stephen King classics.
You head down the rear all and feel the buzz in your pocket. You ignore it. Any calls you’re getting, you’re in no hurry to answer. You sigh and pass an aisle, movement twitching at the edge but you don’t bother looking over.
As you get to the next row, you hear your name. You turn back as you see the man’s head just over the top of the shelf before he turns down the same aisle. He must be the speck you ignored.
“Oh, hi,” you smile, wiping away your worries; you’re at work. “Jonathan, right?”
“You remember,” he preens, “I was hoping you’d be around.”
“You… were?” You hesitate. Your phone buzzes. A short jitter signaling a voicemail.
“Ah, yes, I was hoping for some advice,” he puts his hand on the slender wall of the shelf, “I am gift hunting and I can’t seem to pin down an idea. I thought most people love a book but I fear choosing something utterly boring.”
“Oh, well, uh, who are we buying for?” You wonder.
“She’s about your age, I think. So I thought…”
He’s married. Of course, why wouldn’t he be. You don’t know why that disappoints you. It shouldn’t. He’s only friendly and you’re a poor divorcee. Another buzz in your pocket.
“Well, you could get her a nice bookmark and maybe a cookbook?” You had loved your cookbooks. You miss them dearly.
“Mmm, she doesn’t do much cooking. More the type to order in or eat out,” he pulls his hand back and crosses one arm over his chest, bending the other to tap his chin.
“Does she sew? Or do any crafts?” You prod, searching for options. “Or maybe she likes fashion?”
“She does spend a lot on clothes,” he chuckles.
“Well, if you’d rather a novel, you really can’t go wrong with a thriller. They tend to be fast-paced and easy to read.”
He nods thoughtfully and drops his arms, pushing back his jacket as he slides his hands into his pants, “do you like them?”
“Like… what?”
“Thrillers? Perhaps you have a specific suggestion?”
“Ah, well, John Grisham. He’s always good,” you turn, “I’ll show you where they are.”
“Thank you. Always helpful, darling.”
You’re happy he can’t see your face. That last word makes your chest twinge. He’s so nice. It makes you sad to think you would never have one of those. A nice man. Your pants buzz again.
“Why don’t you have a look,” you present the books with a wave, “and I’ll be back to answer any questions you have. I just need to finish my walk through.”
“Certainly,” he agrees, reaching to trace a fingertip down the spine of a book.
You smile and rush away. You’re just going to turn your phone on silent and deal with it later. As you peek at the screen, you see the same name, over and over. What could he want?
You scroll through the onslaught of Andy’s messages. It’s just like living with him. It never stops. His last text is all caps; CALL ME.
You reply, ‘working for fifteen more minutes. Can’t.’
“You didn’t get too far,” Jonathan startles you and you quickly slide your phone away, “what do you think of this one?”
He holds up a copy of The Whistler. You nod, “it’s not bad. Main character is a woman, so probably a good choice for them.”
“Wonderful, and you suggested a bookmark?”
“Yes, er, over here,” you beckon him onward and take him to the swiveling rack of bookmarks, “these ones are especially nice, I think.”
You point to the thick leather bookmarks with the tassel strings attached and a few charms at the end. He leans in and examines the different colours. He clucks, “I really can be indecisive. If I recall,” he unhooks the same style you suggested, “she was preferable to pink.”
“Great,” you declare, “perfect gift.”
“Hope so,” he agrees, “I’m sorry, am I keeping you? You’re eager to be rid of me.”
“No, not at all, I didn’t mean to hurry you,” you assure him, “I’m sorry. It’s been a very long day and–”
“And you’ve been on your feet. You must be tired,” he suggests, but not in a sarcastic way. “I forget it is so late.”
“Really, it’s okay, I didn’t mean to come off as sharp.”
“Relax,” he taps his knuckles on the book, “you’ve been a wonderful help. Really. I’ll be sure to put your name on the survey.”
“Uh, thanks,” you swallow, “have a good night.”
“You as well,” he raises his handful and nods before striding off.
You groan, cringing as your chest threatens to cave in on itself. Why are you so awkward? You’re so bad at this job. Like everything else.
There’s a scratchy noise. It catches your ear and you swear, it sounds just like your name. Shit! You pull out your phone, the timer is ticking. You must have pocket-dialed. You bring the phone to your ear.
“Hello?”
“Hello!” Andy booms, “Christ. We have something important to talk about.”
“Right, I told you, I’m at work–”
“You called me. Don’t waste my time. My mother’s birthday–”
“Andy, we’re not married anymore.”
“I know that. She asked me to tell you she wants you at her party. She always liked you. For whatever reason.”
You don’t take the bait. You don’t have to please him anymore. He filed for divorce, he made that choice.
“I’ll check my schedule–”
“Who were you talking to?” He interrupts.
“A customer,” you keep your voice down, “speaking of, I need to get back–”
“You were real nice to him, weren’t you?”
“Good night, Andy.”
You hang up. You don’t know how he’s still paranoid when you’re not even together. Jackass.

THEE Guide to Not Being a Punk Poser
Hey, so if you're reading this, you may or may not be looking to get into the punk scene, and you also may or may not be at a total loss on where to start
Well fear not! I am here with this little introduction post on how to Not Be A Poser (title pending)
FIRST UP: The Ideals
When it comes to the ideals of alternative subcultures, this graphic by @theygender (hope the tag is ok, lmk if it isn't) is the best summary I've ever seen
Tumblr media
And if you're like me, you're solidly on the line between punk and grunge, but leaning just a bit more punk. This is fine /gen
Punk is about community. Punk is about fighting for a better future. Punk is about doing no harm and taking no shit. Punk is about looking out for the underdog. If you don't embody these values then you're not punk. The ideology of Punk is, in my opinion, the most important part of the subculture
But if you've been doing your research you already knew that. Now let's get into what a lot of people call the fun stuff: the music and the fashion
SECOND: The Music
There are a Lot of different subgenres of punk music, the most famous being punk rock and folk punk. I subscribe more to punk rock because I really enjoy fast music
Bands to look for include: Sex Pistols, Dead Kennedys, Pansy Division, Dog Park Dissidents, Cheap Perfume, Mommy Long Legs, Gang Green, The Germs, Rage Against the Machine, G.L.O.S.S., X-Ray Spex, The Cramps, Circle Jerks, Crass, Limp Wrist, and Pure Hell
Of course there's a lot more but those are some staples plus some of my personal favorites. You can find my personal punk playlist here
Overall the sound is Loud and it is Angry. There are many songs about killing cops and hating capitalism and it fucks. If you like funky basslines, sick ass drums, angry yelling, and shredding guitars this music is for you
PART THREE: The Fashion
Okay, okay, I had to save the quote unquote best for last. Imo the fashion of punk is the most diy out of almost any other subculture
Literally anything you can get your hands on can become fashion. Steal what you can, pick up shit off the side of the road, and if you can't/don't know how to do something get a friend in the scene to either teach you or commission them or something
Brands? The fuck is that, the only brands you need to know are Rit fabric dye, goodwill, etsy (sometimes), your local craft store, and a good spike maker (I don't deal with spikes currently so I have no good resources for them, so other punks feel free to chime in!)
Want cool metal shit? Take apart cans and turn them into spikes. Take a lighter apart and use those metal bits. Steal safety pins from walmart.
Want/need to sew something? Yarn and a tapestry needle if you can't get/don't want to use dental floss. When sewing patches do a straight stitch around followed by a hobo stitch around again and that shit will stay forever. Alternatively pin patches on with safety pins, this works pretty well in a pinch
Fabric paint is your best friend!!! Start with a white base layer and the colors will be much more vibrant. Don't think you have painting skills? Doesn't matter, you're punk and you have the audacity to wear whatever you make with pride
Invest in a leather jacket. I don't mean in terms of money, I got mine at goodwill for ten bucks. But it will change your life. I recommend getting two: one to keep plain and one to diy. Also flannels are good for diy and can also be made into vests for warm weather very easily.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Both of these flannels I decorated myself in a matter of hours. If I can do it, so can you
Also! When you cut the sleeves off of a flannel you can use the extra fabric to make diy pockets :3
PART FOUR: Community and Conclusion
So this is kind of my close out section lol
I'm not sure what kind of discord communities exist for true punk culture, so if anyone has one they wanna promote feel free
Do some research on local punk bands in your area, get your friends together and diy outfits for a concert, or just to wear. The world is your punk oyster, and as long as you or other people aren't getting hurt you can do whatever you want forever
Plz use this post to find other punks so we can start gaining more community (I'm totally not desperate lol)

Hii may I request the pjsk boys(especially Rui cause he'll fit in the role perfectly)with a reader who's bad at sewing and always ended up getting scolded by the teacher cause their progress is two lessons slower than the others(pretend there're sewing lessons at school cause mine has, and this is exactly my situation rn🥲); however, the reader is actually a pretty awesome fashion designer and artist, they always draw tons of different creative designs on their sketchbook, but they have never turned them into clothes due to their shortcoming in sewing? How would the pjsk boys comfort and help the reader?
I might have an idea for Rui! Since Rui crafts inventions a lot, he might be good at sewing as well(I'm not sure about that tho), maybe he could sew the reader's designs out as wearable clothings(If those designs were drawn for Rui, he would wear them proudly afterwards)or craft a robot version of the reader's designs(perhaps the robots would wear mini clothes or something like that).
Of course I can do that! I kinda took my time because later I had break and all but I hope you enjoy it either way! <3
Also I couldn't agree more on Ruis part so your ideas may repeat a bit in Ruis part...!
Akito, Toya, Tsukasa, Rui with reader who learns slower
TagList: @vodka-glrl @yulikesminori @kuzui5201314 @miya-akane @alicewinterway18 @indi-has-fallen
Tumblr media
⊱ Akito really added to it... he would often say that it's your fault but then will insult teacher for you and bring you some of your faves to cheer you up
⊱ speaking of teacher... he definitely got into fight with them at least once arguing over the fact that they shouldn't be so mean to you
⊱ if you go to Kamiayama, he'll try to be a bit nicer and not go all the way but still will protect you! But if you go to Miya then he doesn't care what reputation he'll have there and will speak his mind out
⊱ he often sits with you and it's easy to say he gets even less than you do but he still tries to help somehow spoiler: he fails
⊱ when he saw all your plans and that you aren't realizing it because you don't feel like your skills are enough, he gets shocked and a bit annoyed
"Why are you letting your skills stop you?! If it's your dream then don't stand and do nothing just because you THINK it may not do well. You won't know untill you try it!"
⊱ he'll try to get someone who can sew for you so you can learn from them and catch up with the material
⊱ he's not good with all that so he may not help you with learning but he will stay by your side when you study and cheer you up whenever you can (in his own tsundere way tho of course)
⊱ also tells you to ask teacher or classmates for help and if anyone says few bad words about you to tell him and he'll take care of that
Tumblr media
⊱ Toya actually tried his best at comforting you and he managed to calm you down few times even tho he's bad with words
⊱ he's not really the one to argue with teachers but he is willing to have some calm talk with them and if it doesn't work then at least he tried his best, right?
⊱ but even if it doesn't work and your teacher still will be mean then he'll always borrow you his shoulder and bring you some of your faves, maybe even wrap you in a blanket
⊱ even if he can't sew, he'll learn how to with you or even learn himself so then he can help you better and maybe even teach you few stuffs
"Hey it's alright, I'll try to learn with you and maybe if I get it I can explain it to you. We'll get it together, I promise."
⊱ he definitely asks around few people he knows if they can sew and if they can then he'll ask you if you're alright with them helping you out
⊱ but if he won't find anyone then he's always willing to get you like a tutor for sewing and is willing to pay for it, no matter how much it may cost
Tumblr media
⊱ Tsukasa was absolutely shocked when he heard about it... your teacher yells at you just because you need more time?!! That's ridiculous!
⊱ so on the next day he went to your teacher and had a chat with them, he wasn't screaming or insulting, he started slowly and calmly but then it turned into one big performance of his
⊱ so he got nothing done and instead put his acting skills in actions so your teacher may had let out few laughs or giggles but he probably made no progress for you...
⊱ but he won't stop at that! He doesn't get a single thing from sewing but he does know a lot of people! And if he'd have to, he's willing to approach random person on street and ask them for help
⊱ in the end, he'll probably end up clinging to you while comforting you through it all and assuring you that you're doing good job
"YN, I'm sure with this much time, you'll be better than all your classmates! But for now let's take a break, alright? I even got you your favorite drink to cheer you up!"
⊱ and when he sees all your plans you have then he's absolutely amazed! He hates that you don't do them just because you think you're not good enough so he makes it his duty to either boost your confidence or help you learn it!
⊱ you may need some time to learn few stuffs but he sees nothing bad in it, in fact he still talks proudly about you in front of his friends and anyone really
Tumblr media
⊱ Rui would be lying if he said he didn't noticed that you learned a bit slower but he truly didn't mind that! In fact he somehow found it quite adorable~
⊱ although when your teacher scolds you for it instead of helping you, he can't help but loose hope in humanity even more...
⊱ but luckily for you, he knows basics fom sewing since it was useful to him during makin some of his inventions so he may help you a bit or at least get you on the right track faster
"Hmm... hey I might be wrong but shouldn't you do it this way? As I said I'm not sure but that's what I could understand from this tutorial..."
⊱ he's really ready to sit next to you and try to understand what you need to learn along your side, at first it was just to help you out but later on he started to be more and more interested in it as well
⊱ whenever you understand something with his help, he'll just smile proudfully and maybe plant a small kiss on your forehead while saying how proud he is from you~
⊱ and when he sees your sketches, he'll ask if it'll make it easier for you to sew if you saw your ideas in 3d, and if your answer is yes then you can expect new invention dedicated to you on the next day!
⊱ when you walk into his room, you can see few inventions that he created after being inspired by some of your works

Love the patch clothing! I just bought a denim jacket myself and am looking forward to decking it out. Do you have tips or resources in how to get started? Much appreciated :)
I've only been doing this a year and a half so I am far from the perfect source of information, but here's what I've gathered over that time:
This post has a lot of really good information for painting and sewing patches. I use fabric paint from Michael's over acrylic because it holds better, but also maybe because it was a "gift" from a friend and idk if he paid the actual price for those. They also changed their brand so I can't speak to the quality of the new stuff, I just know I like Imagin8 and Tulip fabric paints from them. The colours you want to mix white or test on small scrap fabric before making a design. When painting, I sketch with pencil or get a stencil reference. Another way of painting here.
Stitching onto a jacket you can follow the first post, take sewing thread, cut a length, put through the needle, tie the end around itself [make a loop holding both ends together, put it through the other side] stitch from the inside of the jacket to start to hide that knot, pull directly away from the patch on the outside, stitch back through the patch from the bottom. If both fabrics were clear it would be a sawtooth shape you'd see.
Most scrap fabric will do fine to paint on, and I like to hem the edges to prevent fraying of my painted or printed patches but you don't have to and I didn't used to/don't always still, it's just a little stronger. and is good for thinner or loosely woven fabric like those that feel like denim.
[for info on how to hem and general sewing tips, check craft blogs, I am very devil may care with my sewing and have stabbed myself a lot. For stitch spacing use a ruler or other guide. I use my fingers it's not recommended.]
I also suggest, depending on where you're located, checking etsy or other independent storefronts online for some local/semi-local shops for screenprinted punk patches to see if anything catches your eye, but especially look for embroidered patches if you want any decent embroidery. Some are also from quite a distance but have a good shipment cost, but I try to buy local to avoid it being air mail. For punk style screen printed patches in America on Etsy that I can vouch for, I can name ZombieRufio, DeadGiants, RainbowDistribution, and DrunksWithaPress.
Punk With A Camera have some good screenprints if you're from North America, I know the bassist of my favourite local band has the "soup for my family" patch from there, and I'm planning to get it myself as well sometime soon. Bandcamp also sometimes has punk artists list their patches in their merch tab.
Other places I've gotten pins and patches is:
Scout Shops if you're again in North America, or Britain I think also has some, but that's a grab bag and usually just shapes like the dog my friend has or the raccoon I have.
Local festivals/shows, a lot of events in parks and such as community events with local artisan sellers have some cool pins and patches on occasion, I got my genderqueer pin from that. and of course local bands occasionally have pins and patches at their merch tables during and after local shows. For me, Local is the city next to mine with any actual punk venues for local shows [I think we have five places that punks play at currently in that bigger city.] but for you it could be your city, or a bit further. Look around on social media for your area. My gf found the bar I met a bunch of local punks at searching for cool places to eat in that city.
Finally, but not super useful, got a bunch from my uncle and grandfather on my mom's side in a big box from Scouting trades, so I have a big bag of miscellaneous patches from places they went to, and some just classic plain vintage patches, which definitely gave me a leg up. Stores catering to alternative fashion sometimes have old pins or patches but that's very location dependant.
For my studs, I had an Amazon gift card from a family member and bought it through there, but I can't advise doing that generally. Not really a fan of Amazon obviously. My cone spikes were a gift from my girlfriend who I believe did something similar, used an Amazon gift card. I know that other people have better places to order spikes from online if you're American, but I'm not sure how relevant that would be to you. Spikes I say be smart, do some research, be careful of being overcharged. Most of my jackets started without and just had safety pins from a drug store and scrap metal from wherever I found it and that looked really cool too.
Finally, I liked to build up my jackets in "stages" where I collect a few patches and then sew them all on close in time to one another, as it allowed me to plan the layout better, and make the final result look better to my eyes.
Now with all that very very long wall of text out of the way this is me expressly asking you to PLEASE reach out if you have any other questions, I love talking about this. Also if you post any progress pictures on Tumblr, you are required to tag me now. I want to see them.
Thank you to @genderfluid-and-confuzled for prompting the two posts I link at the top btw, He's awesome and has been the source of a lot of great conversation regarding jackets for me. My pieces wouldn't exist without you, comrade.

You know, I do think that as a society, we need to reevaluate our relationship to sewing. Like, that post that says everyone should learn how to do some basic sewing even though it's difficult is a perfect example. Basic sewing isn't difficult. It just isn't. Yes, sewing techniques like pattern drafting, tailoring, or crafting a coture gown are certainly not something that a beginner is going to pick up overnight, but genuine beginning sewing isn't hard. Not that long ago, in the U.S. at least, it was standard to teach young children the basics of hand sewing. Even after that was no longer standard educational material, plenty of parents taught their young children the basics of sewing a seam. Sewing isn't rocket science. Most people, with enough practice, can learn even complex sewing techniques. Anyone can learn to hand fell a seam, straighten a hem, do a running back stitch, sew on a button, etc. Treating these things as though they are difficult, in my experience, leads to further alienation of people from their clothing. If all sewing is regarded as difficult, then it makes it harder for people to want to learn. It makes it harder for people to create a participatory relationship with the maintenance of their clothes. On the other hand, if basic sewing is seen as a valuable life skill that any adult could quickly learn, then it makes that learning so much more approachable.
Look through the notes on that post and you'll find lots of people saying that they're good at "shitty sewing" or that they can mend something in a pinch, but it doesn't look good. I really want to push back on that. Because all of our fast fashion clothing is made using machines, we are accustomed to seeing our clothing finished in certain ways. That is going to influence what we think "good" sewing should look like. But here's the thing. Those fast fashion items are not well made (not a dig at the laborers btw, no one could make clothing well in the conditions that they work under. No one). Overlock stitches are not the be all, end all of good sewing. I make most of my own clothing, and almost all the clothing that I make includes noticeable hand-finishing. The seams and hem on my wool skirts are slightly bulky because I turn and fell down my hems and seam allowance by hand. Those skirts look handmade. If you're evaluating them by how they compare to fast fashion, my hand sewing probably looks "shitty." But the thing is, my hand-stitched seam is going to last so much longer than the seam on a fast fashion garment. My hand-stitched hem isn't going to get pulled apart because exposed overlock stitches get caught on something. Maybe that button you sewed onto your Shein blouse doesn't look exactly like how all the other buttons on the blouse do, but I'd wager its more secure. Your occasional hand sewing isn't shitty, it's hand sewing and it's okay that it doesn't look like it was done by machine.
Sewing isn't difficult, and hand sewing isn't worse than machine sewing. Check out some YouTube videos, ask your grandma, check out a sewing manual from the library or Archive dot org. And when someone compliments the cool way you've patched your jeans, or remarks that they could never mend their own skirt, please tell them that of course they can do it because sewing isn't hard.

There may not be drastic changes from their Mainverse-selves, but I have been interested in reading more of/from Bottle of Red, Bottle of White, so if inspiration strikes, maybe a piece on Frenchie & John in Bottle of Red, Bottle of White? The original piece mentioned Frenchie made "pastries light as air," & only referred to John as Frenchie's friend. Do they still have a similar meeting? Similar crossing with Pete? Buttons isn't mentioned at all, if I recall correctly. How might they know him?
(Have a bulleted list, anon!)
-Miss Griggs had never been in charge of detention before. Frenchie didn’t know her well, hadn’t taken a class with her before, but he’d always admired her dozens of skinny braids that swept nearly to her waist and changed color every few months in a bright, seasonal way.
“What are you in for?” She asked, amused apparently.
“Taking too long in the bathroom. Mr. F said I was being ‘idle’.”
“I see,” a momentary anger sparked over her face then was smothered away. “Well. I hate this room and since it’s just the two of us, you’re going to come help me setup for class.”
She taught home ec and they were in a baking unit. Frenchie helped her dole out the dry ingredients into tupperware for each table. While they worked, she asked him a lot of questions about home and school. He talked, always happy for a ready ear. At the end they made cookies which he brought home and his father ate half of, forgetting to scold him for detention entirely.
-Frenchie got detention a few more times that year. If it fell out on Miss Griggs’ days then that was just lucky.  The next year he got to take Home Ec himself and he found sewing came to him quickly and while he could cook just fine, it was baking where his heart was.
-”You know there are schools just for baking,” Miss Griggs told him as he rounded into his senior year.
“My dad wants me to go to college.”
“Do you want to go?”
-Frenchie went home and had a very long talk with his father. It was hard and both of them were wrung out as Frenchie filled out the application that would whisk him away to the city. For nine months, he barely slept, learning everything he could possibly absorb as fast as they would throw it at him. He had never been a dedicated student before, outside of music classes.
He learned to make everything, but it was pastry that had his heart. It was finicky and demanding, requiring time, patience and attention. They were not things that Frenchie thought he had in abundance before, but he managed them.
-Of course everyone needed downtime and Frenchie’s nimble fingers remembered Miss Griggs other lessons too. So one unexpectedly quiet weekend, he picked through google and found a shop not far from the school. The weather was good, cool and crisp.
The shop wasn’t very big, just a decal of a spool on the front door to catch attention. When Frenchie went in, he was greeted by the dense smell of wool and a pleasant edge of dust. The shelves were all weighted down with fabrice, notions, needles, thread, and even pillowy containers of yarn.
Behind the counter was a massive mountain of a human in a bright yellow t-shirt with an old-fashioned sewing machine it that read ‘Sewing Mends the Soul’ in curly script. He was knitting with very tiny needles, made all the smaller by his hands. The hair on his head was shaved on either side, all the better to show off a constellation of stars tattooed on one side of his forehead.
“Hi,” the mountain shifted on his stool, aiming a bright smile in Frenchie’s direction. “Can I help you with a project today?”
“Could you?” Frenchie stepped in, let the door close with a jangle of bells behind him. “I’m kind of a novice, only made a few things before, but I need something to do with my hands.”
“Sure. What’s your crafting poison?”
“I hand sew. I mean I can use a machine, but I don’t have one right now,” he took another step forward, bringing him to the counter itself. It wasn’t a very big store.
“If you’d prefer a machine, we’ve got a little workshop space in the back that’s available for rent.” The mountain’s name tag said ‘John’.
“I don’t mind doing it by hand. I don’t have time for anything really big anyway.”
“So what’d you want to make?”
“I...don’t know?” He admitted. “I just want to keep my hands busy.”
“Coin purses are a good place to go. Learn how to put in zippers if you don’t know already and you don’t need much fabric for ‘em,” John turned around, rifled through a drawer, knitting dropping to the counter. He pulled out a thin envelope. “Pattern, needles, zipper and all is in there. You just tell me what fabric you like from the back wall and I’ll even cut it for you.”
“That sounds perfect,” Frenchie took the kit from him looking it over. “You’ve made one?”
“Made about a hundred,” John grinned. “I like to keep my hands busy too and we sell them at street fairs sometimes.”
“Oh wow, okay, so you’re the man to talk to.”
“Can be. About some things.”
And talk they did. Frenchie didn’t know that he cared so much about fabric. With Miss Griggs, it had been what was available, but given options he discovered opinions. John had them too, advising him away from things with too much stretch or that might pill. They poured over bits and bobs and it wasn’t until John had to leave him for a bit to help with another customer that Frenchie realized he’d been there for nearly an hour.
“You didn’t have to spend so much time with me,” he said when John returned. “Feel bad hogging you.”
“Nah,” John reached up and pulled down a satin the color of fresh leaves, “I love this stuff. And you’ve got a good eye. It’s fun.”
-Frenchie went back to his dorm with his relatively small purchase and worked away at it. Three days later he went back, pleased to find John behind the counter again so he could whip it out and show him.
“Wow!” John grinned. “Thanks, sometimes I get people all setup and never see them again. I worry they got frustrated or something.”
“Your instructions were great,” Frenchie grinned right back. “But I kept thinking of that velvet.”
“Ah,” John nodded sagely. “Well. Let’s get you setup with another zipper too.”
-Frenchie kept going back. Coin purses became appliques on pillows, became his first ever garment, a shirt that came out a little lopsided. He learned John’s schedule and despite not minding the shop manager (owner?), he timed his visits for when John would be there.
“It’s kind of lonely here,” Frenchie told him confessionally. He had his elbows on the counter, watching John nimbly rip out uneven seam Frenchie had made and gotten hopelessly knotted up trying to fix. “I’m not used to cities, I think.”
“Haven’t been here long myself.”
“Really? But you seem...huh. I guess I wouldn’t know, I only ever see you here.”
“Could change that,” John said very casually though there was a dash of pink on his cheeks. “If you want. I know you’re busy and all, but I was going to go to this craft fair this Sunday, just to poke around. Could meet up.”
“Yeah?” Frenchie beamed at him. “I’d love that.”
He’d worry about the rest of it later. For now, having plans with someone that wasn’t permanently flour-marked and making high-pitch anxiety noises while chain smoking, sounded good. Frenchie’s roommate was interesting at best.
-They met up at the fair. It was easy to find John, who towered over everyone else. He dressed much the same out of work as he did in though in deference to the chill, he had added a black and pink flannel. They walked through the stalls, Frenchie chatting away at a million miles a minutes and while John took it slower, he was clearly listening and finding it all very amusing.
-One food truck was selling stuffed meatballs which they had to stop walking to eat.
“Oh wow, these are great,” Frenchie said around a mouthful. “Seasoning  is all off though.”
“How so?” John regarded his own half-eaten container. “They taste fine to me.”
“Fine is fine, but I could make ‘em awesome. I made this meat pie last week...mm. Would blow your socks off.”
“Yeah?” John smiled. “Prove it.”
-Which was how they wound up in the grocery store, John insisting on paying since he’d issued the challenge. They wound up back at John’s apartment, a two-bedroom three-story walk up.
“Pain in the ass, but the place was nicer than anything else is our price range,” John explained.
“We?”
“Me and my roommate, Pete. He’s working tonight, so you won’t see him, but he’s a decent guy. We’ve been friends for a couple of years, met at an old job. He’s got a boyfriend named Lucius. He’s around about half the time. Funny guy.”
“What about you?”
“Not funny,” John considered. “Not really my thing.”
“No I mean...you know. Someone special?”
“Oh,” John fished his keys out of his pocket, eyes averted. “No. Don’t really date.”
So it wasn’t a date. Which was good. Frenchie wasn’t looking for a heartbreak. Really.
“Yeah, me either. My only lover is butter.”
John laughed, tension bleeding away a little. Frenchie made meatballs in John’s small kitchen and on a whim while they cook, threw together a bread dough.
“It’ll need to prove,” he explained. “But then you can bake it.”
“You’re assuming a lot about me and this kitchen,” John watched him. “Why do you have to bang on it so much?”
“Builds up the gluten strands. That’s what gives you all the air pockets and stuff that makes bread...bread.”
“Huh,” John watched him work, provided utensils as needed, and an everflowing conversation.
In fact they talked for so long over dinner that Frenchie was still there to begin a second prove. Then they watched a movie, mostly talking over that. By then, he might as well put in the oven.
-It was nearly midnight when Frenchie slathered butter over brioche and handed a still warm slice to John.
“This is...it’s beautiful,” John told him.
“Thanks,” Frenchie beamed.
-One hang out led to another after that. Frenchie didn’t actually have a lot of free time, but John’s life seemed mostly working at the shop, hanging out with his roommate and very occasionally going to drag bars. Within a month, Frenchie was regularly going with him to that too.
-Which was probably why when the phone call came and Frenchie was still sobbing, it was John’s number he hit.
“I’m so sorry,” he said as soon as John picked up.
“What’s wrong?”  John demanded.
“My Dad...he just...he just...they said it was his heart, but he was fine when I went home last time. I just talked to him last night...and I don’t know. I have to go and...I don’t know what to do.”
“You at your dorm room?”
“Yeah.”
“I’ll be there in ten minutes.”
And he was. John arrived, taking up most of the small room. He asked no questions, just wrapped Frenchie up in an consuming hug and Frenchie clung to him like a rock in a storm. He got to go on clinging too.
“I know how to plan a funeral without much money,” John told him solemnly and he started making up a list. “How far away is home?”
“It was just an apartment. We only lived there a few years,” Frenchie was still tucked in close to John’s side. “About an hour away.”
“We can leave in the morning.”
They did. John drove him up to the town that Frenchie had never thawed in. They do all the mundane and horrible things you had to do when someone died. But John had a list and whenever he showed up, the things he said should happen generally did even though he was soft-spoken and kind as anything. It only a few days, there was a funeral. It was well-attended. His father had always been good at leaving an impression on people. Frenchie let people shake his hand and tell him they were sorry. He accepted bits of food and floral cards.
Then they went back to the apartment and sorted through his father’s life. It felt wrong to go into his bedroom, to touch all his intimate things.
“When my mother died, I didn’t cry until this part,” John told him, eyes misty all over again recounting it. “Sat down in her closet and bawled like a baby into one of her dresses.”
“What did you do with all of it?”
“Donated most of it. She had good things that someone else could wear. She’d want that. Kept a few for myself just to have,” John dabbed at his eyes, then gently took a suit jacket off a hanger and tucked it into one of the liquor boxes they’d scrounged up. “I keep saying I’ll make something with them someday, but really I just like having them in my closet. Like the good kind of ghost.”
“I like that.” Frenchie decided. He took his father’s favorite hat, one of his work shirts and still crisply ironed pair of slacks. The cologne too, cheap, but beloved.  His father hadn’t owned any jewelry, not even a watch.
There was the guitar though. Frenchie took it with care, set it in it’s case.
“You know how to play it?” John asked as they loaded it into the car.
“Yeah, he taught me how. I love it, but there wasn’t room at the dorm. Probably still isn’t.”
“Store it at ours then. I’ve got some space.”
“Really?”
“You’re over pretty regularly anyway. It’ll be safe there.”
-Regularly became an understatement. Under the cloud of mourning, Frenchie rarely left. He liked Pete, who was brassy and loud, but also intensely kind. When he got wind of what happened, he’d actually been miffed that John hadn’t told him about the funeral and went out of his way to make sure Frenchie had his preferred coffee blend at the apartment for the mornings after he fell asleep on the couch. Lucius was abrasive and mean, hilarious and also secretly softer than John and Pete combined. He sat up with Frenchie on a night he couldn’t sleep and told him increasingly unlikely, but funny stories about drunk rich people shenanigans.
-In that haze, Frenchie completed his program and then he was also homeless.
“You’ll stay with us,” John told him as his last week at the dorm drew closer. “You can have the couch.”
“I don’t have a job yet.”
“It’s a couch. Who pays rent on a couch?”
-Frenchie got a job within a week at a bougie bakery. He got up when Lucius was walking in a lot of the time, out of everyone’s way long before they woke up. With great care, he baked his grief into croissants and scones. The head baker wasn’t very good and the recipes were too sweet, but Frenchie appreciated the mechanicalness of it all just then.
-One late sweet night at the end of summer, John rubbed Frenchie’s hands between his own, working out a cramp that had snuck up on him while he put pleats into his first pair of sewn pants.
“Feels good,” Frenchie whispered, the words caught between them.
“You need to loosen up or you’ll give yourself carpel tunnel,” John chided, taking each finger carefully in turn.
“I don’t date because I’m asexual,” Frenchie said, the words which has been waiting on the tip of his tongue finally tumbled free. “I want to. I just know most people want sex and then it’s a whole thing.”
“What’s asexual?” John paused, hands frozen around Frenchie’s like a horrible parody of a proposal.
“Uh, it means I don’t have sex? It’s a whole spectrum, but I’m firmly in the ‘no, thanks’ part of it,” Frenchie felt his heart sink into his stomach. “It’s not a big-”
“I didn’t know there was a word for it,” John practically whispered. “I thought it was...just me.”
“No, oh my God, no,” Frenchie turned his hand, clasping at John’s. “Not even a little. There’s me, obviously. But there’s so many of us. Is that why you don’t date?”
“It’s miserable,” John nodded, clinging to the tether of Frenchie’s hand. “I want...I want things.”
“Yeah,” Frenchie found a smile, maybe the first smile he’d really managed in months. “Me too.”
Their eyes caught and held, very tentatively,  John asked, “Me?”
“Yeah, you,” Frenchie brought their joined hands to his lips, brushed a kiss over one of John’s knuckles. “I like kissing sometimes. Not too much. I like hugging a lot. Cuddling is good. You?”
“I like hugging you a lot. Let’s find out about the kissing.”
-The kissing was good. The kissing, actually, was fucking great. They did that a lot and eventually, they experimented with a night’s sleep which was comfortable as anything. The couch was abandoned and after a little arguing, Frenchie started paying rent.
“So you two are...” Pete looked between them over the first joint rent payment.
“Happy,” Frenchie supplied while John blushed.
“Got it,” Pete took the check. “Good for you then.”
-By winter, Frenchie was over the bakery. He wanted something more challenging and maybe a little creative. He applied all over the map, but when he walked into Freedom, he had a good feeling right off the bat. The place smelled amazing, looked both homey and threatening at the same time.
“This is the place,” ‘Call me Eddy’ told him. “I’m the co-owner, but I do the front of house stuff. You’ll interview with Izzy.”
“That’s Chef Hands?” he recalled from the advertisement.
“Sure, we can call him that,” Eddy snorted. “IZZY! YOU’RE GUY IS HERE!”
“SEND HIM THROUGH!” A voice penetrated out of the kitchen.
“Uh, okay, any tips?” Frenchie glanced at Eddy.
“Be good at cooking,” Eddy said with a twitch of a smile.
“....thanks.”
The kitchen was immaculate as Frenchie went through the doors. A man in a black chef’s coat, black jeans, black boots, and his arms crossed over his chest greeted him as he came through.
“You’re resume only says Frenchie.”
“Yes, chef,” Frenchie drew himself up. “It’s my name.”
“Pretentious,” Chef Hands judged, but in a toneless way like it hardly mattered to him. “You’ve read about what we do?”
“I did.”
“Can you make pastry worth a damn without eggs?”
“Yes, chef,” Frenchie lifted his chin, answering the challenge with a challenge. “Try me.”
“Most of it needs overnight, right?”
“I can do something right now if you need me too.”
“Let’s say I do. Savory, not sweet.”
“Yes, chef.”
It took longer in an unfamiliar kitchen and there were the eyes of the chef on him the whole time. But Frenchie thought about John kissing his forehead before he left that morning.
They’d just be lucky to have you if they’re smart enough to take you.
He cooked and he baked. In the end, he presented the chef with five puff pastry packets, embracing a damn good chicken pot pie mixture. The chef didn’t say a word, the same blank face as many of Frenchie’s professors. He picked one up, bit into it. Then took another bite and another.
“EDDY!” he shouted and there was a rattle, a bang, then doors swinging open.
“What?” Eddy crowded in around the chef. Without ceremony, the chef shoved the last remaining bite into Eddy’s mouth.
“Yes?” The chef asked.
“Holy shit, yes,” Eddy said, pastry flaking out of her mouth. “Why are you even asking me?”
“Because you didn’t eat lunch,” Izzy shoved a full pastry at her on a napkin.
“Can I have two?”
“Leave one for Roach,” he allowed.
“Do I have a job?” Frenchie asked, glancing between them.
“You’ve got a job.”
“Thank you, Chef-”
“Izzy,” came the harsh correction. “You can call me chef during dinner service, rest of the time just use my damn name. This isn’t the fucking miliatry or something.”
“Ok,” Frenchie nodded. “I can work with that.”
-If he had any worries about working with Izzy, who continued to have the personality of steel wool, then they were erased when he met Jim and Roach. Jim wielded a knife during prep with such speed it took Frenchie’s breath away. They were also silent until they shot of a wry observation that made Frenchie cackle.
And Roach. Roach was magic.
“I’m going to make a jambalaya and people like to dip shit in that,” Roach told him. “So give me some options.”
“What’s the spice profile like?”
“Say ah.”
And an amazing flavor explosion just happened in Frenchie’s mouth.
“Holy shit, yeah I can work with that.”
They bounce off each other easily, the menu evolving so fast that Eddy just took to handwriting it until it coalesced for the season. To Frenchie’s surprise, Izzy had little to say about their improvisations, except to curtail them when the menu got longer than a page.
“People get stupid when they’re too many decisions,” he announced. “Just save it for winter.”
-John came to eat with Pete the very first night Frenchie was in the kitchen.
“It was amazing,” John told him when Frenchie climbed wearily into bed.
“I don’t think it was yet,” Frenchie tucked his head into the crook of John’s arm. “But I think it will be.”
-In summer, Izzy took Frenchie and Roach with him to the local farm where they got their produce. A wild looking man named Buttons with a pigeon on his shoulder walked them through greenhouse after greenhouse.
"You can make good things from good soil," Buttons intoned.
"What kind of good things do you grow here?" Roach asked specutiavely looking at the one greenhouse the door hadn't opened too.
"You want to cook with that shit, you find a different place," Izzy cut off whatever Buttons was going to say. He was rows away, giving accessing looks to a thyme plant.
"How's he even hear that?" Roach groused.
"What kind of basil do you have?" Frenchie asked.
"Every kind," Buttons gave him the same kind of look Izzy was giving the thyme. "But you'll be wanting the onions first."
-They were really great onions. And basil. And everything. Frenchie spent all afternoon asking Buttons questions and at the end of it, Izzy said in his decisive way,
"You're doing this from here on out. Once a season, come out, see what looks good. Buttons invoices us."
"Me? But I'm not-"
"Are you a chef or not?" Izzy demanded.
"...I am," he realized.
"Good. Order the fucking produce from the madman then."
Frenchie did. He liked Buttons, even if he did smell like mulch.
-The closure scared Frenchie a little even though he understood the vision. It made him realize how quickly the kitchen had become the bulk of his life.
"You love it." John shrugged when he brought it up.
"Yeah, but I-" Frenchie started, caught himself, then couldn't figure how why he'd bothered. Surely John knew by now. "I love you too. More than that."
"No competition," John pinked up. "I love you a lot. But that's not my whole life. Shouldn't be yours either."
-It was, in some ways, an embarrassment of riches. To have John with their room and their place enmeshed with Pete and Lucius as well as the kitchen with Roach and Jim. Increasingly there was Eddy too, who liked to come back to the kitchen when Frenchie was prepping and ask him idle questions about what he was doing and steal bits of dough.
Maybe there was even Izzy, who barked and ordered, but also made staff dinner almost every night, rotating through everyone's favorites. On Frenchie's birthday, he made beef wellington with a sniff,
"Like pastry is fucking hard?" Then very quietly admitted that he'd had to start over after he'd fucked up measurements. No one else heard it, but Frenchie did and that was all that mattered.
-So when Lucius got the job then came home a few days later with a groaning, "Does the man not understand that I'm hitting on him so hard I might knock through drywall?"
Frenchie offered, "Yeah, no he doesn't get it, guaranteed. Gotta be clear."
That took ages to pay off, but once it did, the kitchen was even nicer to work in. Not that Izzy got nicer, but he was easier to tease and less likely to strike back. Jim took the most ruthless advantage and their verbal sparring made Frenchie spill more than one container on the floor with laughter.
-And if sometimes on a late night, when John was sleeping, Frenchie took his father's hat down off the shelf and just held it in his hands, wasn't that okay?
"It's going good," he told the hat. "You'd be proud, I think. No...I know. You would. It's a good life, Dad. Wish you could've seen."
When he crawled into bed, John pulled him in close.
"Maybe he does see," John mumbled. "You deserve a guardian angel or two."
"Got one already," he slotted his fingers over the stars on John's temple. "Best one going too."
"Want to stay in tomorrow?" John suggested. "Watch movies and make things?"
"More than anything," Frenchie slung his leg over one of John's. "Chocolate chip cookies, maybe. And we can work on that quilt."
And that's exactly what they did.

wait, do you have advice/resources for beginning to sew clothes? i self drafted a totebag and have made a few small bags, but am hoping to branch out
Make mockups; do lots of test fittings throughout the process; finish your seams; clip your corners and curves; stitch the most visible and trickiest bits by hand, not machine (unless you're good enough with a machine!); learn the main properties of different fabrics; when you really wanna hold your fabric in place nicely, baste rather than pin; adjust the fit via triangles and curves; it's only fabric; it's okay to fuck up; accept that you WILL fuck-up and WILL have to undo and redo things and that that is OKAY.
^ Some things I personally have benefited from and wish I'd learned earlier!
Seriously, though — I should preface by saying that I myself am also a beginner. I follow some really brilliant costumers and cosplayers here on tumblr, and I am nowhere NEAR their level. (And I would welcome any advice/resources more experienced clothes-makers would like to share!) It's only in the last few years that I've gotten more into sewing, starting mainly with alterations of existing clothes and then moving into making things from scratch. I've figured out a lot just via trial and error — as well as by taking existing garments apart and looking at how they're made.
But, honestly, my main resource has been YouTube. There are tons of tutorials on there for specific techniques and garments, of course, and I do watch those. But I've also learned a LOT from the more entertainment-focused sewing content — the ones where the sewist isn't really trying to teach you how to make something, just making something cool and showing how they made it. There's so much knowledge to be gleaned just from watching them work and listening to them talk about why they used a certain stitch, how they resolved a fit issue, etc.
Some favorite creators include:
TheClosetHistorian: Makes stunning vintage and high-end fashion; big proponent of drafting your own patterns, and has tutorials on how to do so as well as on things like darts and seam finishing. Plus I find her voice and aesthetic very soothing.
Bernadette Banner: Focuses on using period-appropriate methods to create her garments (mainly 19th and early 20th c.), which means a lot of hand sewing. I've picked up a lot of hand-sewing tips and tricks from watching her work.
Vincent Briggs: Mainly 18th century garments, with very excellent tutorials on decorative buttons and buttonholes in particular. And how to make an adorable leaf-kerchief!
Morgan Donner: All-around crafter with a particular focus on medieval garments and other aspects of medieval culture. Does lots of non-sewing craft content I enjoy as well.
Rachel Maksy: Less focused on technical sewing skills and more so on costume making and other crafting, but she's very inventive and fun to watch and shows a lot of creative problem solving.
And a few specific tutorials:
Circle skirt drafting by Mariah Pattie
Making a split-side adjustable skirt by Ash L G
Seam finishing by Evelyn Wood
There are honestly too many good channels to list... Sewstine; The Stitchery; Nicole Rudolph; Shannon Makes...... Beyond the sheer entertainment value, what I really love about watching all of these creators is that each of them has their own particular specialties, preferred ways of doing things, etc. Some of them went to fashion school, some are self-taught. Some are very technical and precise, some of them work organically and messily. And I think that just as the measured, detail-oriented approach of someone like Bernadette Banner offers much instruction, so too (in a very different way) does the chaotic approach of someone like Micarah Tewers, who perhaps can make garment construction seem less intimidating by demonstrating that you don't have to precisely follow a step-by-step guide.
Right now, I'm almost done (SO CLOSE TO DONE) making a skirt. It's not a crazy difficult skirt, but it does have pockets, pleats, gathers, a zipper, an attached waistband with elastic, and a plaid pattern to consider the direction and matching of, so it required thought and planning. I had originally been planning to make the whole skirt using a hand-me-down McCalls pattern, but then decided I didn't like the fullness of that skirt, so I took only the pockets from that pattern and drafted the skirt itself using the circle skirt tutorial linked above. I used a quarter-circle with a 175% waist measurement for the front half, which is pleated, and a 150% waist measurement for the back half, which is gathered. I did frequent test fittings and had to take apart and redo a couple things. And whenever I wasn't exactly sure how to do something, I'd just Google it and find lots of help.
Like I said, some of my mutuals on here are far better at this than I am, and I feel a little silly talking about my skirt like it's some grand accomplishment and a little unqualified to offer resources/advice. But I guess I'm hoping that my experience can still be helpful precisely because I am still a beginner and am very much still in the phase of figuring it all out. And my method is basically to take in information and inspiration from a lot of different sources, find the courage to try things out, learn from my mistakes and try try again.
Congrats on your tote bags, anon, and best wishes on your sewing journeys to come!

4-7 with all four of them <3 I love the long explanations
Tumblr media
what flower/plant do you associate with them?
dark red carnations. meaning devotion and a deep romantic love and passion. there her favourite flowers, seen by how many axl gets her as gifts. while the love meaning is sentimental for her, particularly the devotion part, she does just really love the colour <3
what part of their appearance do you associate with them the most?
probably with her eyes or her nose. both are very striking features that make her stand out. i feel like we don't see too many female characters with those features, especially her humped/crooked nose. i love how she contrasts with axl <3
what hobby do you associate with them?
flower pressing and other crafts related to it, almost like junk journalling. anything she can put on a piece of paper, some lyrics, flowers or even a sketch of axl sat on their balcony. there's a reason all her notebooks are falling apart. there are also her fixer nature that will often see her fixing old radios and even practical tasks like putting up shelves and painting walls.
what school subject do you associate with them?
physics or maths. they're were her favourite subjects at school but i think andy loves to problem solve, anytime she can fix something physically she will, so to put that practically in a subject makes her happy.
Tumblr media
what flower/plant do you associate with them?
i feel like i can't say anything but roses for him! but definitely traditionally red roses, the classic representation for romance and we all know axl is a traditional romantic. but also white for the connections to purity and virtue, things that occupy his thoughts a lot.
what part of their appearance do you associate with them the most?
i think for axl it's definitely his hair. it's such an iconic and striking feature of him that stands out to like everyone he comes in contact with. he also loves how it feels when andy brushes it and grabs onto it
what hobby do you associate with them?
does playing piano count? lol but as a hypothetical because he doesn't really have any hobbies at the moment, i think axl would enjoy quite a hands on hobby like mechanics and fixing up old cars and motorcycles or maybe even something like leather work
what school subject do you associate with them?
art probably, i know he spoke about his art teacher being one of the few he actually liked at school. i think he likes the freedom associated with it, especially when he can just be abstract and let his thoughts run wild.
Tumblr media
what flower/plant do you associate with them?
hmmm interesting. i like dahlias for yoko, normally representing beauty and commitment as well as perseverance due the fact they continue to survive even when other flowers have died in difficult conditions. also spider lilies <3
what part of their appearance do you associate with them the most?
yoko has quite a prominent top lip with a strong cupid's bow, making her look like she's already wearing some kind of lip stain. it's something she used to be quite self conscious about when she was in school.
what hobby do you associate with them?
cooking but like in the fancy chef way when she feels like it. being experimental with making fancy sushi platters or extravagant chocolate cakes. she's often giving out all the food she makes to others when she inevitably makes too much. she of course did dance and violin as a child/teenager but has fallen out of love with both.
what school subject do you associate with them?
see yoko really hates all school subjects but i think she probably enjoyed textiles the most. she's always loved fashion, even as a child and has a keen eye for sewing, it was one of the few subjects that she felt she had full control over, where she wasn't told what to do.
Tumblr media
what flower/plant do you associate with them?
this one was a bit more difficult, never really thought of this for duff but i feel like chrysanthemums are a good choice. normally being close to optimism and happiness, as well as long lasting friendships which suit him very well.
what part of their appearance do you associate with them the most?
again the hair <3 especially when it's kind of started to form in that cotton candy bleach damage texture as well as the two tone of his darker roots growing in the back.
what hobby do you associate with them?
it's a bit difficult to say at the moment considering his main go to is getting drunk to go out with friends but i feel like fitness and sports are something he can usually get behind as hobbies.
what school subject do you associate with them?

Character Intro: Móda (Kingdom of Ichor)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nicknames- The Queen of Glam by the people of Olympius
Age- 19 (immortal)
Location- Skyline district, New Olympus
Personality- She's the embodiment of a true fashionista- she eats, lives, & breathes all things fashion! She loves the feeling when she catches the attention of people with what she's wearing. She's also incredibly confident! Her biggest flaw is that she can be really materialistic. She's currently single.
Her mother is the Rhapso (goddess of sewing). They share a deep bond, their love and appreciation for fashion being the glue.
She has the standard abilities of a goddess. As the goddess of fashion, she has a wide range of powers and abilities. They include filukinesis (manipulating thread), telekinetically being able to control fabrics/materials that are used to make clothes (like silk, satin, denim, linen, leather, cotton, etc...), telekinetically being able to disrobe herself and others, clothing transmutation, summoning/controlling mannequins, cosmetic manipulation, clothing manipulation (as an attack she can turn accessories into weapons, she can make an enemy's clothing uncomfortable to wear- by suddenly having them break out in a rash, their skin becoming allergic to the fabric of their clothes & she can constrict the wearer's clothes, making it harder for them to breathe. She can also make it to where the highest high heels won't be painful/uncomfortable for her to wear). She can teleport through wardrobes and closets & she can see visions of a person if she wears an article of clothing that the person wore. She can also shapeshift into various fashion tools.
Móda lives in this gorgeous mansion estate (made out of ivory, marble, & gold) in the Skyline neighborhood of New Olympus. She also owns a townhouse in the Queenstown neighborhood and a condo in the Chant du Cygne neighborhood. Her pool & hot tub outside is more for the aesthetic than it being actually used. Inside her main place, most of the floor is gold trimmed white mink carpeting. There are stairs made out of Imperial Gold and a grand chandelier in the main hall- dripping with pearls & orange and light green diamonds. The color scheme includes many neutral shades like caramel, tan, & cream as well as other colors like gold, silver, light pink, red, and teal. She has one pet- a cavalier king charles spaniel (a girl named Charmeuse). She loves designing cute little outfits for her. Her favorite place in her home is of course her closet!
Móda probably has the largest closet out of all the goddesses- even bigger than Hera, Aphrodite, & Pheme. It's four stories totaling nearly 5,000 sq ft, complete with a high tech security system installed by Techne (goddess of arts, crafts, & invention). She keeps the thermostat at a comfortably cool temperature to maintain her clothes, shoes, & handbags. It's no surprise that a lot of her things are from her own fashion brand, but Móda is also a fan of brands such as Diamond Ave. (loves the jeweled clutches and diamond encrusted sole shoes), Persuasions (loves the skinny jeans), La Petit Amour (loves the bustier tops!), Luxuria (loves the open-toes pumps), No.3 & Co., Bow + Arrow, Maison du Drame (loves the dramatic draped gowns), Kaleidoscope Lab, Phaelam, & Megaleio (loves, loves, loves the handbags!). Not only does she own the most expensive handbag (the rose gold one), she also owns the second most expensive one (the white & grey crocodile leather with 18K white gold hardware encrusted with 40 white round brilliant diamonds- coming with a 700,000 drachma price tag).
She has three main businesses- a popular fashion magazine called Glamgerous, a website (Lè Real) which sells high end luxury brands heavily discounted & previously owned, up to 80% off, and her fashion label Paloma (which includes casual & luxurious wear, handbags, shoes, accessories, and eyewear). Móda describes her brand's style as a modern twist on romanticism with a high fashion edge. A notable product from her brand are the satin platform pumps. For other work, she's a contributing writer for Modern Olympus, Kytheiria, & Regalia. She started up the New Olympus School of Design and she's thinking about opening up a wellness center for models suffering from eating disorders.
One of her favorite accessories to wear are full length leather gloves. She's also a huge fan of choker necklaces (a notable accessory from her brand).
Her go-to drink is a peach martini. She also likes classic martinis, cosmopolitans, champagne, mimosas, bellinis, and the glamour gal (a drink made with vodka, lemon & lime juice, sugar syrup, and blackcurrant liqueur).
She's friends with Aoide (goddess of voice & song), Gelos (god of laughter), Phaethusa, The Hesperides, Lampetia, Iris (goddess of the rainbow), Phaenna (goddess of jewels), Aphrodite (goddess of love & beauty), Dionysus (god of wine), Pandaisia (goddess of banquets), Ailuros (goddess of cats & warfare), Philyra (goddess of perfume, paper, & beauty), Ganymede (god of homosexual love & desire), Ditus (god of bisexuality, effeminacy, & fertility), Eupraxia (goddess of well-being & success), Chloris (goddess of flowers), Peitho (goddess of persuasion & sensuality), Antheia (goddess of swamps, vegetation, & floral wreaths), Cleta (goddess of whispers), Apollo (god of the sun, music, poetry, healing, medicine, archery, plague, light, & knowledge), Nike (goddess of victory), Tyche (goddess of luck), The Graces, and Pheme (goddess of fame). Her official mentor was Aígli (goddess of glamour).
She always makes the best dressed lists!
Her favorite sandwich from The Bread Box is the spicy chicken fajita one (added with mozzarella & monterey jack cheese).
One of Móda's favorite nail polish colors to wear is the La Petit Amour Nail Lacquer in "Perfection Reflection" (a shimmery rose gold color). She also likes the Olmorfia nail polish in "Lights At Coral Street'' (a bright neon coral color) and the Glimmer & Shimmer Glaze in "Crushed Champagne" (a glittery gold color).
She's one of the few minor goddesses to have a star on the Pantheon Walk Of Fame. Móda jokingly said that her glamour & style was too strong for Zeus to ignore.
Móda is easily the top five goddesses with the largest number of Fatestagram followers. She also has a PanopTube channel where her specialty is fashion hauls!
Some of her favorite dishes include honey barbeque baby back ribs, jibarito (thinly sliced pork, lettuce, tomato, & garlic oil mayo sandwiched between two large fried plantains), pastelon (layered fried plantains, cheese, & picadillo), arroz con gandules, pizza topped with pepperoni and chorizo, & dolmathakia.
Her favorite dessert is flan flavored ice cream (topped with white chocolate syrup & caramel sauce).
She even has her own glamour doll collectibles!
Móda's favorite pastime (aside from working on her designs) is to shop! In a single shopping spree at The Mall of Olympius, she once spent twenty million drachmas. She also likes doing pottery, surfing, tanning, gardening, & clubbing. She's currently developing two projects with Pheme's production company- a docu series on the history of fashion and a reality TV competition show focusing on aspiring fashion designers. She'll also travel to Athens to visit her mom.
"The greatest love of my life is fashion!"

Hey, would you be willing to answer any of the in-depth tes oc questions? If so, i'm curious about 3, 11, 17, and 20. Not pressure of course!!! 🥰
ooh okay!!
3. Does your oc have any kind of crafting skills that either aren’t in-game or don’t have as much importance in-game as they would in real life? (For example, can your oc sew or weave, etc? Are they skilled in any kind of art? Can they make jewelry or work glass? Are they musicians? etc)
Ru can sew, basic sewing both for fabric and skin is something that's taught to every Reachfolk child regardless of their adult profession. He can sing very well, but is utterly hopeless with string instruments. He also does woodcarvings! They're very highly detailed and painted, and he likes just giving them out to whoever wants one, no payment required. (Lydia despairs of this, because he will spend many hours getting a raven's wing the right shape and then just give it to a random kid, lmao. He mostly just does it to have something to do with his hands when he's bored or anxious.)
11. What is your oc’s main source of income, if they have one besides plundering tombs and adventuring? If they’re mercenaries, are they part of a company? Does your oc own their own business, and if so, what is it?
Ruaidri's main income is actually fur trading, he'll hunt deer or foxes or the odd sabretooth and sell the pelts to merchants. He'll also occasionally sell "bloodstones" that are found in large quantity in the Reach to traders. (These are actually carnelians and red agates, highly prized by Imperial jewelers for the deep red color. The Reach doesn't have much use for such "bloodstones" because they're not useful for alchemical purposes and aren't very popular for use in talismans or other jewelry, either.)
17. What does your oc like to eat? How much food do they eat? Can your oc cook, and can they do it well?
Ohohoho, okay so! Due to growing up as a refugee, this man Will eat whatever is put in front of him; he doesn't really have a preference for a long time (when he gets older and settles down and there's peace, he does actually discover a love of lemon pie). Because of his Dragonborn nature, he needs to eat a lot more protein and red meat than the average human, however, he doesn't often do that because he tends to unintentionally skip meals especially when he's focused on something (or just when no one reminds him that Food Is A Thing You Need, What Do You Mean You Have To Earn It?) Ru doesn't have the uh... healthiest relationship with food, unfortunately.
He can cook very well, he's very good at campfire food-type of cooking. He can also bake passably fine, it's not like The Best Ever and it probably won't look great but it tastes delicious. He can't do anything too fancy that requires fine motor control however, due to the nerve damage and stiffness from the scar tissue on his hands.
20. What does your oc wear in the city/settlements? In the house? When travelling, but not adventuring or expecting combat? Do they vary their clothes depending on what hold/city they’re in? If they don’t, why not (e.g., if your oc wears the same outfit to tend their garden or lounge around the house as they did to meet Ulfric or Elisif, why?) Does your oc have a good or bad sense of fashion? How many clothes does your oc have?
He tends to wear his Reachfolk leathers for everything, mostly out of a constant fear of attack due to his Obvious Reachfolk-ness, though in the safety of his home in Karthruud (and later, Markarth) he does "dress down" by just wearing the underlayer of clothing for his armor. The only times he's worn fancier clothes are for Reach ceremonies that he participated in, and the Thalmor party he went undercover as a Bruman merchant to. He flatly refused to wear the outfit Taarie offered for him to meet Elisif in, as the cut was tight and restricted his range of motion, and he felt it would be dishonest, to dress up like a nobleman just to get an audience with the Nords' Ard that much faster. (Lucien had a lot of fun wearing the outfit, though, which was kind of nice.) Ru doesn't really have a sense of fashion beyond "these colors look nice together", lol, the big thing he's concerned with for any outfit is "can i move/fight in this?" and if the answer is no then he will be disgusted with the clothing and possibly the tailor. He owns three pairs of trousers, four shirts, two pairs of boots, several pairs of socks and undergarments, as well as carries about a full yard of treated leather to fix his armor/boots as needed. (Ru is also guilty of cannibalizing one or two of his older sister's tunics once to repair an old shirt that he really liked because it was "broken in in all the right places" which Eithne has still not forgiven him for, lmao.)

[MUSIC]
Dalida was never completely satisfied. She always aimed to reach the highest goal possible and yet when she fell, she was able to stand up and fight even harder. This was one of her traits she appreciated the most - strength. Despite all the fears, anxieties and doubts she happened to have at some point, she was never giving up. Not her. Because she loved life and she wanted to enjoy it as much as possible. One of the things that was satisfying and motivating for her the most was the success. However, that bastard was addictive as fuck as she used to describe it. She always kept it lowkey. One more award for the best tailor in the city - no big deal, another designer using her work on the catwalk - appreciate it, thanks, let’s move on. This was her. An introvert with a big heart who always turnt into a dancing crazy motherfucker when she drank few beers and hit the dancefloor.
She always started her day at 5.00 am. First thing in the morning, she hit the gym and worked out for an hour or so. Afterwards, she sipped a smoothie made by her assistant on the way to the office. Around 6.30 the boss was at work drinking her first black coffee of the day and smoking a delicious cigarette. She was trying to decrease the amount of nicotine. Her other assistant was reporting everything that had to be done, she was listening carefully and planning the day out. Usually, around midday Dalida was heading to the workroom. She always made a mandatory small talk with her workers. They were never into haute couture so the company was hiring only eight tailors. After few minutes, she headed to her box where she could stay for hours sewing and measuring. The reason why she created and owned the company with suits was because she was passionate about sewing in a first place. Therefore, she never imagined being an owner who does not know the craft. She was a perfectionist. She could stay in the workroom till the very late hours and was very often the one closing it afterwards. She was not a celebrity, success-story-based-person enjoying her capitalistic life. She was a hard worker from the very beginning and it remained the same even after her breakthrough.
Her wardrobe was very simple. Few all-black t-shirts, one white, one gray,  many socks, few simple underpants (she never wore bras and as she had not a lot going on in that area she was relieved and happy to not be forced to do so). Of course the main part of her clothing collection were her suits. All of them made by her except one Versace men suit she was given by Donatella during last year’s NY Fashion Week in fall. She owned about thirty suits. They were also monochromatic, no bright colors as she did not like them. Close to the wardrobe, there were also here shoes. Loafers with different patterns, some with a little extra belt, some of them just plain. She did not own anything made from natural leather, everything was as eco as possible as she believed she should held her responsibility for the Earth’s well-being. She also had nubuck shoes for less casual looks. She owned a pair of white sneakers and black heavy boots looking like just brought from the army as well. For perfumes, she loved the classic, cedar or tobacco smell. Her favorite one she repurchased over and over - Tom Ford’s “Oud Wood”. If she wanted to change something, she also had Gucci “Guilty” and Guerlain’s “Vetiver” on her shelves. Another important thing were ties. She did not like bows but ties - she paid a lot of attention to details, fabrics and how it was embroidered.
After a long, hard day today she just came back home and poured herself a glass of jack. took off her jacket and sit for a moment to smoke in peace. It was almost 10pm. Her girlfriend was not yet back. She also worked late and hard as a professional dancer and choreographer. A nice, calm night, everything dark. She embraced the moment breathing out the smoke like it was an asmr video.
Moment passed and she looked down at the street. She saw her girlfriend Mahnaz in a street lamp light. She wore that beautiful big hat. Mahnaz was accompanied by a person in a red dress. Few minutes later they were both upstairs; Dalida heard a key opening the door.
“Hi, What’s up?” started Mahnaz and immediately took off her high heels. “My feet are dying.
It looked like she forgot about it but after a moment Mahnaz reached Dalida and kissed her briefly.
“Oh, this is my student Samanta Galvano Porter” Mahnaz pointed at the woman in a red dress. “I promised her to give a CD with some salsa music, no idea who’s the musician, it’s a compilation that I think will work perfectly for her next gig. Please, give me a second, I’ll bring it”.
Was Dalida surprised? Well, Mahnaz has never brought any students to their house. Was Dalida jealous? Frankly, not. She trusted her.
“You have a big, beautiful place” seemed like the girl was into having a conversation.
“Oh, yeah. It was planned to the very details so, we are glad, the effect is what we wanted”
The girl looked intensively into Dalida’s eyes until the point she felt uncomfortable.
“Oh, sorry” said Samanta giving an impression like she just woke up from a short freeze. “Are you Dalida Jefferson, the owner of this famous suits company?”
Dalida did not know how to react so she just nodded.
“Sorry, I didn’t know. My ex-boyfriend always dreamt of a suit by you” Samanta turnt red immediately because she felt the situation being awkward.
The young woman smelt like fresh oranges and some flowers. Could be wearing Marc Jacob’s “Daisy”. Dalida looked at her dress; she looked stunning. It was hard to tell if Samanta was not flirting.
“Maybe you will get back together and then, you can give us a call so you can get a suit with a special discount. Here’s my card” Dalida immediately regretted it but she wanted to show that it is just to be polite and friendly towards her partner’s student.
Samanta smiled in a very sweet way. It was flirting. Now, Dalida regretted giving the number even more.
“Well, we won’t get back together like ever but I’ll take the card anyways. I’m sure my father will like to have your suit” she grabbed it quickly and pretending it was accidental, she touched her hand and squizzed it.
Dalida turned back to the room.
“Love, do you need help?” she shouted towards their music room.
“No, I just found it. Sorry it took me so long. Samanta, here you are. You can train with this. I bet it’s gona be a blast” Mahnaz was very excited about her student’s performance.
Samanta took the CD and put it in her purse.
“Thank you very much, Ms. Nove. I’ll do my best” she took a quick glance at her phone screen. “I gotta go, my uber is downstairs. See you next time”.
The last sentence, she started towards her teacher but she changed her aim. Mahnaz did not realized it but Samanta winked to Dalida.
*
“What a day! I’m glad it’s finally over” Mahnaz seemed very tired. “But you know what, she has a great talent and I try my best to get what she has out. I believe this music will help her”
Dalida embraced her.
“You’re a real scholar, love. I admire your dedication. After hours? Oh gods, who does that? You’re a real deal” Dalida shaked her head and kissed Mahnaz.
“I’m a real deal for you or as a teacher only?” she asked her perversely.
Dalida kissed her again.
“I love you” they kissed passionately.
Mahnaz stopped her to get undressed.
“I’m really tired. Would you like to help me with the shower?” Mahnaz smiled and went straight to the bathroom.
Dalida shaked her head and followed Mahnaz’s lead.
