Swordtember Bonus 3!
Ok, so I was thinking about my freinds channel and how I think playing games no one else is, I bet, would help somehow. (Probably not I'm no expert on channel analytics) but one called Lufia popped up in my mind. I haven't thought about this game in years. All this is relevant because the weapon you get just before the final boss is called the Dual Blade. There's four versions of it I can find any visual representation of it, and two of them are pretty generic, but the third and fourth is much more complex than I was willing to do. So one based off of tiny fuzzy sprite art it is.

jrpg/srpg recs? old or new doesn't matter, but it's easier for me to get around to games if they're older so I can load them on my psp or 3ds or whatever. in return I give you uhhhh have you played any of the department heaven games? they're more like weird srpgs, st!ng loves experimenting with their games. gungir is my favorite cause it's the most depressing (imo) and there's sibling angst
department heaven looks cute! t'will have to check it out someday :) sibling angst is always fun!
onto the recs:
jrpgs:
standard ff2 plug (20th anniversary edition is my fav personally...), the FFIV collection for the psp is complete and also the best way to play 2D FFIV (imo). of course the 3d version is also on DS so YMMV. I liked Final Fantasy: Mystic Quest for what it was, Final Fantasy Legend and its sequels are games that Exist but I didn't particularly enjoy them just because i don't like GB games. But they are out there!!
I know I'm not the kind of person to shill DB but I had a fun time with Buu's Fury on the GBA... and it's not a JRPG but if you like pressing buttons really good this might be up your alley.
Golden Sun exists, I think everyone should play Chrono Trigger if you have not already. I talked about it briefly in my last rec post but Lufia 1/2 are JRPGs that exist for sure. The Suikoden series is cool and I am itching to play Eiyuden Chronicles one day!!
Dragon Quest has handfuls of fun games, SMT of course exists as well and I am partial to Nocturne. I have never played Bravely Default but all of my friends who are into JRPGs more than I am sing of both games' praises, TWEWY exists, and for the 3DS I actually really liked Monster Hunter Stories which is nifty and very cute.
srpgs:
of course fire emblem as the SRPG probably everyone around this blog knows about. I wish I liked Tear Ring Saga more but it's not my thing personally, but if you like the kaga sagas I would recommend it! There are pretty people, so no complaining from me :P Vesteria Saga and the other games exist too. I haven't played them though, so no opinion from me! But they exist!!
OFC have to say FF Tactics, FF Tactics Advance, FF Tactics A2. I love FFTA but I know FFT is way better according to everyone. There's also Final Fantasy XII Revenant Wings which people usually put as a JRPG but it's definitely not a traditional JRPG. I personally think it's very slow to control but it's not the worst game you could be spending your time playing.
People really like Tactics Ogre... I did not. There were two characters I liked but I just didn't want to sit through multiple routes - but hey, there's multiple routes if you like that stuff!
I have heard good things about both Project X Zone and Triangle Strategy, but I'm poor so I've never played either. However, I think a fun game is Summon Night 5!!! I haven't played any of the other games, but the characters are very cute and it is an SRPG so I am putting it here!
That's all off the top of my head. I have a million more I could probably recommend, but I'd be repeating myself and shilling FF2 more than I should. I hope some of these games inspire you to look for yourself! Or replay an old gem, or something :P

A thing I like: when a video game series has a few recurring themes that play in most (if not all) of the games.

So, I got bored once, a long time ago.  And tried to recolor the sprites of the main characters and Sinistrals to match their official art.  And the Menu Portraits for the 12 main characters (Egg Dragon wouldn’t fit in the format plus he has no official art so I skipped him).  I know the GBC had a limited pallet, but I guess this is what people would look like if they didn’t have that limitation...

Hmm I still think Pokemon Colosseum and XD are kinda niche but there’s a pretty big and dedicated following for the serie. Although, you want to know one game that’s truly really niche?
 Lufia: The Legend Returns
It was on the Gameboy Color and my sister made me play back when I was around 9? From what I remember the story was good and the main crew was pretty nice too.
Although, imo the best aspect of the game was the soundtrack
To this day I still listen to it from time to time and I can’t find all of them even on YT, but somehow I found them all on one (very old?) website.
Anywho, just think it’s funny to think back about this game and those days, because for this one, it truly feels like we’re the only 2 who ever played it XD

#365DaysOfVGM Day 76:
Battle #1 (Lufia: The Legend Returns/Estpolis Denki: Yomigaeru Densetsu [2001])
Here marks the end of one lifetime experience, and the beginning of another! The finale of Lufia sure as heck deserves at least one good battle theme, and luckily it’s the most common one you’ll hear throughout the course of the whole game too!
Like with Day 40, there’s a “marching” feel in one of the sound channels, and I appreciate it just as much here, but moreso for an energetic adventurous feel to it, rather than the context of the enemy you’re fighting against.
It feels so refreshing to not be confined to the Twitter character limit when making these descriptions anymore, so expect longer descriptions to happen more often from now on, not just for the games I have a lot to talk about!

Inktober 10, 11, and 12!
Legend of Zelda and Final Fantasy are obviously dear to my heart, but my actual favorite RPG series is Lufia/Estpolis! So here’s my favorite characters from each of the three main games - Jerin from Fortress of Doom, Dekar from Rise of the Sinistrals, and Melphis from The Legend Returns!

There’s probably one person on the entire of tumblr who might be interested in this drawing, aside from me, but damn if I wasn’t gonna draw it after having some feelings while watching a speedrun of the first game.
Say hello to one of my SNES favorites, the one that I’ve never beaten but I love to pieces, the Lufia/Estpolis series.
I know this is still in my influence brain pile, because I love a lot of things it brings to the table. The redheaded hero boy, the corrupted gods, the 100 year cycle, the Important Girl.
So anyway I had a really great time deciding what Erim would look like in the background. I used a little bit of her designs from Fortress of Doom, Rise of the Sinistrals, and Curse of the Sinistrals. Deciding what I liked and what I didn’t to combine them together into my own styled design was a lot of fun, I love the fact that I get to do that for SNES games honestly. Just take a little of all the official art I can find and mash it together. also the spread of her hair, A++ content I love it.
I did that a little bit for Lufia, as well, though I took most of the inspiration off her sprite being pretty simple. A simple girl with a simple dress, unprepared for the destiny she embodies.
Seena is Seena, I didn’t really improve or change her design any particular way. But she was fun to draw at last, I’ve tried to draw her ever since I was in high school. So I can cross that off my list as a thing I accomplished.
All in all I had a lot of fun drawing this. I’m sorry about its inherent existence being a kind of spoiler, but /shrugs!!
