Well, everything looked like it was going back good. Then shit hit the fan again. I have a neurological disorder called diopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH). It's a condition where there is increased pressure inside the skull without there being a brain tumor. The exact cause of pseudotumor cerebri is unknown, but it is thought to be related to an imbalance in the production or absorption of cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), the fluid that cushions the brain and spinal cord. 

It is rare (1 in 100,000) but more common in women of child bearing age. However, my daughters have a 50% chance of getting it. Well, my youngest the 9-year-old started having headaches, so I took her to the eye doctor and they found brain swelling. After a terrifying week, we got an MRI, and we find out she has my condition. My twelve-year-old son then goes in for his regular eye exam, and guess what they found. The chances of him having this were less that 1% but here we are.

On the positive, unlike me, it was caught in time and there has been no damage. They are also responding very well to a low sodium diet. However, learning the ins and outs of a low sodium diet for everyone is a bit exhausting, so you can imagine why I just don't have it in me for anything else. This could have been way worse, so I'm thankful for the blessings I've received, but there is a whole lot of adjusting going on.

I have, however, started watching Unnatural Fire and listening to the audiobook of Malicious Empress of Military Lineage. If you try either one of these, let me know what you think.

A massa,historicamente,sempre foi mais inclinada a aceitar a ilusão do que a verdade. The masses have historically been more inclined to accept illusion than truth. The truth,often harsh and uncomfortable, requires deep reflection and a reassessment of values, while illusion offers a comforting escape—a distorted view of reality that nurtures beliefs and protects insecurities. Freud noted that humans tend to cling to illusions because they serve as a defense mechanism against the pain of reality.

Illusions are seductive;they offer easy answers, create villains and heroes,and give the masses a sense of belonging and safety. Truth,on the other hand,destabilizes. When someone dares to confront illusion and expose uncomfortable truths, the masses react with violence—whether physical,moral,or social. This reaction is driven by fear that,in destroying the illusion, the entire structure supporting their beliefs will crumble.

Rather than question the validity of the illusion,the masses prefer to destroy the one who challenges it. It is easier to kill the messenger than to confront the message. And so,the fight for illusion continues, protecting corrupt and unjust systems,while the truth is silenced or ignored.

This dynamic of defending illusion over truth reveals how society is often governed by interests and conveniences that refuse to face the harshness of reality. Poucas vezes a condição humana, a permanente luta entre a vida e a morte e a busca do conhecimento, de um sentido para a existência, foram apresentados de forma tão eloquente e poética como no Sétimo Selo de Ingmar Bergman.

Seguramente por isso é visto por muitos não apenas como a obra prima do realizador sueco, mas como um pilar do cinema e da cultura do século XX.

O Sétimo Selo é muito mais do que um filme, é uma obra de arte. Um arrojado poema visual, belo mas assustador em simultâneo, onde cada espectador é confrontado profundamente com a sua própria mortalidade e com a busca de um sentido para a vida.

Não vale a pena fazer muitas perguntas, quando a resposta é só uma, e inevitavelmente pintada de negro.

Between life and death

Rarely have the human condition, the permanent struggle between life and death and the search for knowledge, for a meaning to existence, been presented in such an eloquent and poetic way as in Ingmar Bergman's Seventh Seal.

This is certainly why it is seen by many not only as the Swedish director's masterpiece, but as a pillar of 20th century cinema and culture.

The Seventh Seal is much more than a film, it is a work of art. A bold visual poem, beautiful but frightening at the same time, where each viewer is deeply confronted with their own mortality and the search for meaning in life.

It's not worth asking many questions when the answer is just one, and inevitably painted in black.

The future for Vegas and Pete

WARNING. I'm having a lot of VegasPete thoughts and I need a place to put them.

TL;DR Version: Let VegasPete be messy! Let VegasPete be kinky! Only fic can save us! (Probably.)

ONE: I really dig @lutawolf's take on VegasPete in the book vs. VegasPete in the drama. Luta argues that book!Vegas is "basically a criminal sociopath" and that this is one of the key differences between book vs. drama Vegas. (Read the link for the full take.) I definitely buy this take on book!Vegas in the first half-ish of the book's story. I'm not sure the canon continues to support this interpretation towards the end of the book though? I'm also not sure the authors see Vegas this way. It's hard to say, but I suspect the authors' inclination is towards some sort of redemption arc. The question is, what kind of redemption arc? There are some really annoying ways this could go. It'll be interesting to see where the new VegasPete story (supposedly coming from the authors soon) will take the characters.

TWO: Overall, I find the drama version of the story more interesting. It feels like we're getting more developed and nuanced versions of the characters overall. (Although, obvs, it's hard to give the book a fair shake when you're relying on online translations.) The drama version of VegasPete gives us more of a history and context for the characters, which is important. We understand where they come from, what's shaped them, how they might be uniquely suited to one another.

THREE: BUT... here's the piece I think is crucial. The history and context the drama provides should not be over-utilized to "explain" or pathologize their kinks. Instead, I see this history as a) context for their individual weaknesses, struggles, and needs. And, b) context for their current inability to safely/sanely acknowledge and act upon their kinks. They each have so much fucked up baggage dragging them down. It is a huge obstacle to their ability to understand themselves, communicate with others, act in healthier ways, or form safer kinky relationships.

FOUR: This is also why I'm so drawn to this couple and so interested in where they go next. An important question to me is: What does it mean to try and "fix" Vegas and Pete as characters? Or, to try and "fix" their relationship? Or to give them a happy ending? What does that look like? I think the authors, the drama team, and fans are all going to have very different and competing takes on this. My take?Within this storyworld, no one's going to run out to get therapy. This is still a very violent and dysfunctional environment. Within that context, how do Pete and Vegas muddle through? I don't think their version of a happy ending is any kind of domestic fluff. I think it's something a lot more complicated. I'm not saying they can't have happiness. I'm saying that I don't think falling on stereotypical happy ending tropes (babies and domesticity) is the answer. Babies and domesticity can be interesting story elements to include, but they aren't a magical balm which should be used to erase kinks, erase the characters' histories, etc. This couple has to work on a lot of stuff within and between themselves if they're going to stay together and not self-destruct.

AN ASIDE: Does anyone else remember fic from the show Oz? (YES I AM OLD.) I feel like Tobias Beecher and Chris Keller may offer some interesting parallels and contrasts here.

FIVE: The final VegasPete scene in the drama makes me nervous. It's just so fluffy and domestic. Yes, it's very cute, but how did these characters get here? Is one month in a hospital enough for this kind of domesticity and affection? What happened to make this possible? Honestly, I don't buy it. There might be a fic out there which could convince me, but I haven't read it yet. Instead, I'm nervous that the drama's solution is to skirt all the issues and just throw family and a dead dad at the problem. As if that alone just magically "fixes" everything. And somehow Vegas is just soft and cuddly now? No! That dude is fucked up. Yes, he's had a big scare and he's learned some important things, but that's step one in a complicated journey. Also, Pete is not a martyr or a gentle fawn. He has his own forms of masking and survival. He has his own coping mechanisms. He's also very skilled at his job. I don't think the Pete's future is one where he just becomes domestic and plays house mom for Macau and Venice. If he's a metaphorical hedgehog, then he's got his own shit to work through too!

SIX: Ultimately, I think the drama version of VegasPete is easier for me to work with and to see a future for than the novel's version. However, I really don't think that future should be one where they leave their kinks or their baggage behind. I think the pairing works best when Pete and Vegas have a lot of baggage, are also kinky, and are trying to figure out what all of that means. I think their future involves them trying to disentangle their issues from their kinks. I'm not sure they'll be 100% successful at that, but the more interesting part is the attempt and the ongoing work. This is also why I think the more satisfying versions of VegasPete's future might be found in fic, rather than in a season two or a new piece of the novel. I'm not sure I trust the drama or the novel to fully follow through on the story they've started. The ending of the VegasPete story in the drama and the books give us hints that both book and drama canon may opt to go for a more superficial ending. Fic, however, has more freedom to be messy, sexy, and kinky in the ways that VegasPete seem destined to be messy, sexy, and kinky. But who knows, maybe we'll get a new installment of the book or the drama and they'll surprise me!

Representation, of the queer kind, but the lack of it as a female. I can sit back and enjoy. I'm going to break it down, but not from the point of a female. Furthermore, I can enjoy the romance. I can even relate to the characters from a human standpoint. Yet, I'm not analyzing it from a female point of view, which is a breath of fresh air.

I would also like to say in general I like Asian romances over American ones. You can tell that Asian romances are written, produced, and directed by people who believe in romance, love, and soulmates. Something sorely lacking in the US. Furthermore, you can see the masculine discontent with females in general in the US, even if you are watching a romance.

Three days later Rollan, his friends, and a few other students sat in the carriage approaching the harbor of Alicante.

„Two days off, what a relief,“ Pastor commented leaned against the board of the carriage. „My endurance isn‘t quite good for this moment. I need to work more on it, than anything else so far,“

„That‘s a message bird, I think,“ Marina commented, then Rollan watched the bird land on his lap and Rollan tried to take the paper roll carefully out from the bird‘s leg and opened it.

„It‘s from Gerda,“ Rollan mentioned with a big smile, then Marina leaned her head to glimpse into Rollan‘s letter.

„Dear Rollan. How is the flight going? I hope it‘s going well. Look Orm just passed a few days ago by our house asking for Arrog‘s sons and we assumed they might have gotten into your zeppelin too. If they‘re really around can you confirm this and make sure they‘re okay until Alfida or Orm gets the chance to follow you? Thank you in advance and take good care of yourself. „They already know about them,“ Rollan said, then rolled back the sheet. „That‘s great for now,“

Llegué!“ Rollan said loud, then he saw Ivan ran back along with Luta pursuing him and he went down on his knees to pick up the troll. „What‘s happening?“ Rollan asked, then Luta widened her eyes as she saw the swift on Rollan‘s shoulder and jumped against the bird, which took off and flew across the house flying up to the second floor. „Luta, stop!“ Rollan ordered, then ran stairs up and encountered the door of the bathroom open, showing his mother giving the young and the middle troll sibling a bath. „Why are you bathing them?“ Questioned Rollan entering into the bathroom and went down on his knees and placed Ivan down on the ground.

„Put him into the bathtub. He hasn‘t finished the bath,“ Leticia mentioned placing her hand under Ivan‘s butt, then Rollan helped her and held his hand inside the tub to held both cubs in it. „The light-brown one behaves very well, besides the other two.

„Okay, I take Ivan and you take his brother,“ Rollan offered beginning to scrub the cub‘s belly with his fingers making him laugh. „Don‘t worry, if you remain quiet, you‘ll be out of here in no time,“ Rollan looked at Leonid, which was playing with the foam, then Rollan placed his free hand behind the cub pulling him closer to the younger brother, then tried to scrub Leonid by only using his one free hand. Leonid began to laugh and splashed with his fists on the water spattering it over Rollan‘s face.

„Careful, my eyes were open,“ Rollan warned making the cub chuckle, then he moved his arm back to the troll, whose name Rollan wasn‘t aware of yet. „Okay I better take only care of you, then I‘ll deal with your brother as I see you‘re no fan of water,“

„I‘m done with one,“ Leticia warned picking up a towel, then helped the troll out and began to dry him with a towel.

„I will take care of the last two,“ Rollan mentioned, then the cub jumped at Rollan‘s arms making him wet due to the dampness on the fur. „Hey!“

The trolls giggled at what happened to Rollan, then he grabbed the hand towel, that hung on the door of the bathroom to dry the chubby cub.

„I will get another towel,“ Leticia mentioned earning a nod from Rollan, which moved on to Leonid to help him bathe.

„Come, now let me take care of your head and your back,“ The Spaniard announced scrubbing his back giving the troll joy, afterward he moved up to the head and massaged it gently making the troll groan with joy. „See, it‘s not so bad, right?“ Asked the raven-haired boy, then up on his shoulder appeared Luta holding the message from Gerda, that Rollan received before and Rollan nodded.

Leticia came back with two towels and handed one out to her son, which he placed on the ground, then picked Leonid out, sitting him on the towel, and used it to dry the cub‘s fur.

Luta nodded at Rollan’s letter then she licked her paw and placed it next to Rollan’s name to mark her paw on it making Rollan smile. “Good idea,” Rollan got up and walked to the window to see the swift pick on the ledge on small ants, which were walking up at the board attached to the wall. “Oh you will encounter there a lot of ants, my friend,” Rollan mentioned watching the bird fly a few centimeters away at the green leaves growing on the wall of the house and stuck his head inside the leaves searching for food. Leonid walked with the towel on his back and jumped at Rollan’s shoulder, pushing him on the shirt’s lapel hoping to get the same treatment his older brother was getting. “You know what? Just get into the middle of my legs with the cloth and I try to warm you all at the same time,” Rollan offered watching Leonid jump down, landing on Rollan’s taille causing him to yelp under his breath as the cub had hurt him on his private location. Leonid looked up at Rollan tilting his head, then Rollan faked a smile to hide his pain and watched the light-brown cub sit beside his brothers, therefore Rollan wrapped his arms half around the pets, then began to rib with their towels against the cubs slowly making them stop shivering from cold.

On the airship of Alifda, she stood at the front of the ship looking down at the landscape under it together with Orm analyzing on their map the location they were passing above.

„Maybe her stomach is a little more sensitive than yours to different meals,“ Alifda mentioned watching Kai approach Gerda and place his hand on his older sister‘s back.

„I think we better follow the French coast in case we need to make an emergency stop,“ Alfida suggested. „Kai, Gerda won‘t take the night shift, you‘ll stay with her and see if she gets better,“

„We better stay here on the outside for her to be able to get fresh air,“ Kai mentioned, then Gerda got up and walked at the wall covering her mouth to prevent her from throwing up.

I'm just curious - do you or anyone know if there is let's say ... a list of most popular bl shows from certain years? I'm just curious, my guess is that 2023 would be dominated by MSP?

Also, I'm just wondering if certain bl couples are popular and I just haven't noticed? Personally, i was never really into ForceBook's pairing and I didn't think their first show was that popular but they still got another show which surprised me? So I'm wondering whether just my perception was wrong and they were indeed popular from the beginning? No shade whatsoever, I'm also not trying to upset anyone, I'm just wondering?

ForceBook are the third best-selling gmm couple for fan meets and are number 14 for Instagram. So, they are making big numbers for GMM. 

Most bl couples have a following before they make it to a main couple. So yeah, they probably don't hit with you, but they hit with others. I adore KimCop and JoongDunk, but not everyone does. I used to not be a fan of OffGun, no shade, just wasn't me, but then Not Me came out and hot damn. That's when I realized that I just hadn't seen them in something that struck a cord with me.
