Sparktober Day 5: Mod Appreciation

A major part of the new Sparkbird fandom that has cropped up after November (both the month in 2023 and the song) is the Discord server, and there's a dedicated channel on that discord to play the counting game, where everybody counts and if two people say the same number, it resets back to one. One night in February, it was mostly the mods playing this game...and as you can see by my extremely professional presentation, they were doing a terrible job. Completely ruined their collective reputation for *checks notes* being able to count. But they have all taken it in good stride and at this point its a part of the server lore.

THAT ASIDE, the mods do a lot of good work for that server and I really do appreciate them a lot. I just think this night was too iconic not to mention.

LOOK WHAT I MADE

So recently I found out a new style of art I like to do, which all happened cause I tried a palette challenge. Well, now what I'm doing is taking an existing image and tracing over it with a minimalist color palette.

I decided to draw Urbosa because @mochiovo and k_boshi on discord actually asked me to draw the Champions in that style in their original designs (all four Champions are almost done btw!). Then I decided to try an animation AND HOLY COW

idk why the weapon is flashing BUT IT LOOKS LIKE THE SWORD IS REFLECTING THE LIGHTNING SO NO COMPLAINTS!

Thank you so much! Here's my take:

(I saw that a lot of people loved the creepy Wasp design, and trust me I DID think about making Cricket look similar but like.. I can't. I can't do that to her. I'll do it to Lady Scarab.)

Cricket's redesign is definitely one of those where I kind of didn't really do anything to change it - I really like her current design, and so most of this was just changing little things I think would've made it better. The main adjustments I made were definitely to her proportions - Cricket's wiki description is slightly vague on her build (because she has book cover art, I assume) but I was honestly never a huge fan of how slender she appeared in some splash art since I always imagined her being a little bit shorter/more muscular. She isn't doing hardcore farm work at her agricultural school, but she still probably knows a thing or two about hauling massive plants from room to room for class. That might just be me, though.

I also made her glasses way thicker and bigger, and really tried to lean into the octagonal shape they have - although I might have made that a little bit unclear. I really like to think that she's like those characters whose eyes turn into little dots when she takes her glasses off. The rest of her design is relatively the same - aside from her orange tinted wings and additional black/mustard splotches. Finally, I thought it would be cute to change the bag around her chest into a smaller satchel that rests at her side and wraps around her neck. I think I can safely say Cricket's book was my favorite from all of the arc 3 books - from the presentation and exploration of Jewel hive to the temple of clearsight, and most importantly how Cricket interacts with these events as they come and go. I seriously think it's the gem of the arc (but you guys can probably tell that based on how much I talk about its content in my other posts.)

🆘💃 - January 15 - jegulus - discord server microprompt challenge - word count: 398

"Sirius where the hell are you?" James hissed into his phone as he stood backstage. "You need to get here now!"

"I'm almost there, Prongs! Did you get in okay? I left the tickets-"

"At the door, yeah, I got in fine! But fuck, mate, you didn't tell me these dancers were so bloody fit," James whispered, blocking his mouth with his hands as he stared straight ahead at the most beautiful person on the planet.

The man in question was currently sitting on the floor, wearing a leotard and leggings, stretching while laughing with a few other dances. But even though all of the dancers were stunning, this man...he was perfect. His curly black hair was pulled back a bit in a tiny bun, but little tendrils fell onto his face and to the nape of his neck, only accentuating his pale skin and piercing gray eyes. Even as he laughed, James could sense a haughtiness about him that only made him more attractive. And though James prided himself on not just being attracted to people based on their bodies...well, the muscles that wrapped around his arms and legs, evidence of his dancing skill, only made James drool more.

"I mean I only see Remus, so-"

"Well, more for me, then," James murmured, still openly gaping.

But as he stared longer, he started noticing things. Little things. Little familiar things.

"Hey, Pads? Who did you say got us these passes?" he asked, stomach dropping to the floor as the man met his eyes, a smirk forming on his godlike face.

"Oh, my brother, Regulus! He's in the company, he should be back there somewhere.."

But as James panicked, he also started tuning Sirius out. Because the man was standing and walking toward him.

"It's rude to stare, you know." And oh, his voice was like silk, and his smirk cause dimples in his cheeks.

"I...couldn't help it," James admitted, staring into his eyes, far beyond coming up with a clever excuse. His breath, along with his ability to think, was gone.

"Hm," the man's eyes flickered over James's body and his skin heated as nerves and pleasure pooled in his spine. "Well, you're honest. Want to help me stretch, then?"

"Yes," he nodded feverishly, mouth going dry at the thought.

The dancer smiled. "Alright. I'm Regulus. And you are?"

"...Fucked," James answered honestly, already following Regulus away.
