It is not often that I am called upon for a research mission, much less one for the Crown. It seems my writing from a year prior has attracted attention from high places. And it seems someone has found something intriguing that requires my expertise. So, I am to make my way to the Capital.
Luckily I am not needed urgently. Bones are unlikely to wander away if I delay, so I have some liberty to explore, observe, and catalog as I please, which I will happily do so. There have been other observations I have made prior commitments towards, and no matter now great the Crown sees their new acquisition, their time is no more important to me than any of my other colleagues.
My friend, Dr. Branston, has made her thoughts clear. She has warned me to be warry of whatever the crown may wish to show me, for they tend to not understand the ethics scientists like us take into consideration. While I appreciate the warning, I am disappointed she declined my invitation to come with me. Apparently she is not in good standings with the Crown. Regardless, I look forward to our time together on our vacation along the coast.
In any case, I welcome the public to read my thoughts and observations as I fulfill my commitments, and when I arrive to the Crown. Merms are creatures to behold, and the response I received prior was both humbling and cherished.

List of my favorite fishes in no particular order and why I love them (PART 1):
Mola mola
Tumblr media
Probably my most favorite in general tbh, I love how huge they are. If I saw one in the wild I’d probably shit myself, though. Their pectoral fins are also ridiculous I love them
Oarfish
Tumblr media
*to the tune of “feel good” from feel good inc* LONG - BOIS. Sometimes about 40 feet long. Sailors used to think they were sea serpents and honestly? They were right.
Barreleye
Tumblr media
Mysterious babies. Always looking up on the bright side of life. I once painted one for a fake magazine cover I created for my portfolio so these guys have a special place in my heart. A lot smaller than I thought too??
Mahi-mahi
Tumblr media
I hate to say it, but I first found out about these guys when I was little when I ordered a mahi-mahi sandwich... yeah. Love their colors and head shape, they seem like they’d tell funny stories. Very definition of tropical
Parrotfish
Tumblr media
Miami Vice lookin ass. Honestly though look how beautiful? It’s like vaporwave gave birth to a creature. Evolution really got out their paintbrushes for these guys. Fun fact: they chew on coral to eat the algae and then poop out the rest as a white sand you likely walk on at the beach... anyway
Ribbon eel
Tumblr media
Ribbon eels have always been a favorite of mine. I discovered them when I was little and was watching a documentary on coral reefs and thought these guys were silly. Constantly doing a “ :V “ face. These guys are also protandrous hermaphrodites, meaning they begin life as male (blue and a little bit of yellow pictured above) and change into female (they turn all yellow). When juveniles, they’re all black
Pipefish
Tumblr media
These guys, along with their cousins, are always a treat. Very small, very cute, looks like worm on a string. Not much to say honestly except for how adorable they are
Fantail goldfish and ranchu goldfish
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Grouping these two together since they’re both goldfish; something to know about me is that I absolutely adore goldfish. Despite being messy little pigs, they have such a cuteness to them I can’t resist. They come in all different shapes, sizes, and colors that it’s hard not to have a favorite. I’ve raised a couple of fantails when I was younger so they mean a lot to me, and although I have never had a ranchu before, I really want one once I move out.
(PART 2 INCOMING)

Honey honey, how you thrill me, a-ha, honey honey
Honey honey, full of krill, see?, a-ha, honey honey
I'd heard about you before
I wanted to know some more
And now I know what they mean, you're a fishy thing!!!
Oh, you make me dizzy
Mola Mola, the best Molidae, a-ha, honey honey
The way that you’re made of bones
The way and the way that you’re heavy, right????
I feel like I wanna sing when you do your thing
I do not wish to see you vunerable, I know
Mayhaps one day, you won’t
Mahi Mahi, very strong, see?, a-ha, honey honey
Mahi Mahi, all that I need, a-ha, honey honey
You look like a movie star (look like a movie star)
But I know just who you are (I wonder just who you are
)And honey, to say the least, you're a fishgone beast
So stay on the ground boy, you best not get too low
There's no other place in this world where I’d rather go (than go to the aquarium)
Coelacanth-y, how you thrill me, a-ha, honey honey
Coelacanthy-y, nearly kill me, a-ha, honey honey
I'd heard about you before (I'd heard about you before)
I wanted to know some more (I wanted to know you some more)
And now I know what they mean, we’re all fishy things

Day 4: Narwhal
I do not think I am built for the cold. It has never agreed with me. Dr. Branston likes to laugh at my "weak constitution" but I've never seen her on a polar expedition. Regardless, as little as I'm not built for the ice, the Unicorn Ice Divers certainly are. While I did not join the researchers in the water, I did get to observe these rare and beautiful Merms patrol their icy domain. While they're generally shy, it seems this pod has bonded with this research group. They introduced me to Leela, who they rescued from getting stranded in the ice years ago. It reminded me a bit of the early days in my career.
[Prompt List]
[Previous] - Day 3: Mola Mola
[Next] - Day 5: Mahi Mahi

Tag 17-22: SEGELTRIP - San Blas Inseln
