i find it interesting that while inuyasha is typically ostracized for his hanyou features when the gang come across villages, there is one unique instance where the exact opposite happens and he's mistaken for a literal dog god. there's a canonical village out there that envisions inuyasha when they hold festivals in the dog god's honor; when they pray or when they tell stories about him to village youth. and i think that's pretty neat.

Well, Anime Ever After is for you!!

Synopsis: An anthropology of famous stories from around the world retold through the lens of legendary and lesser known anime, with modern twists, turns, and lessons about. From the depths of the sea in DBZ: Waves of Freedom (The Little Mermaid) to the realm beyond the clouds in One Piece: Beyond The Sky (Jack and The Beanstalk), this ever expanding treasury of tales has something for everyone.

Framing Device: An anime loving teenager is telling classic fairytales to the kids they babysit as bedtime stories- with a twist!

Side Note: Nursery Rhymes being adapted is more for Shrek. So they won’t be here- sorry about that. But they do a good job at it. This anthology is meant for readers 12 and up, due to some of the themes in some of the stories.

Anyway, an uproariously funny romcom anime in its own right, which takes inspiration from and makes many indirect references and jokes that depend on knowledge of its inspiration. Kaguya's romantic interest, for example, is based on one of the bit-player suitors to princess Kaguya from the original tale, and this enforces the fact that one of the theses of this story is that if you try hard enough and don't lose hope, you can defy fate and expectations. Takes the simple story of the animals racing to become the Chinese Zodiac and asks: what is it like to live in a cycle that is inescapable, to be bound to a pattern set in place long ago and live it out over and over? What is it like for the rat who won, but is resented by those he defeated? What is it like for the cat, who was apparently cheated out of a place in the cycle? And what is it like for the god who called the animals in the first place and feels compelled to keep them going around in circles again and again?
