hi! im Lio and i have been into TVC since 2003 and now i'm here to make it everyone's problem!

a few things before you follow:

🗡 i will generally try to tag for content warnings, but i can't promise to be consistent. 🗡 i love both the books and the show and think AMC is doing a stellar job so far as an adaptation. 🗡 i think every vampire should fall in love and kiss each other, at least a little bit. 🗡 please keep in mind that i very much engage with this series with a pro-fiction lens and post about a lot of the more problematic/dark/complex elements present in the books and show. 🗡 i like bad/weird things and think it's fun when bad/weird things happen in fiction, but also get why not everyone likes it. 🗡 that being said, lestat, marius and armand are my favorite war criminals and i think they should be allowed to commit fictional atrocities for my entertainment and catharsis 💃✨

What are some of your fave headcanons/meta you'd give to someone who is lestat/armand curious but doesn't know where to begin with them? (it's me, I'm the lestat/armand curious one)

I didn't realize this until it was pointed out to me, but I always tend to approach this ship/pairing from a post-canon perspective. And hear me out--given that there are entire segments of other fandoms that have zines and cons dedicated to ships that have much less to go off of--I really don't think Lestat/Armand is that big of a reach, considering the obvious? For me, it's where I get to be creative and also extremely self-indulgent (but at least I'm self-aware?).

HCs:

Initially, it would take some time for Lestat to admit to the feelings he has for Armand canonically. But he might find it easier to express his affections nonverbally through a telepathic communication here or a lingering touch there.

Armand says in TVA that Lestat "had given" Shakespeare to him and that he reads Shakespeare whenever he has a "bellyful of despair." Now, Lestat slips him little quotes he's scribbled out onto pieces of paper and hopes Armand likes them. It's equal parts romantic and melodramatic.

They'll eventually have to... communicate re: their Mutual Marius Issues™️, which will be excruciatingly painful but cathartic. Here's where they can actually start moving forward.

Gift-giving is a large part of both of their love languages and they treat it as a competition; Lestat does finally get to polish and dress Armand up the way he said he wanted to in MtD.

In that vein, physical touch and caretaking would also be love languages for them. Remember how upset Armand was when he saw Lestat lying on the church floor and noticed that his hair was left uncombed? Appearances are important to both of them, but especially to Armand who spent 300 years dusty, ragged, and unkempt underground. He would want to brush Lestat's hair every night and Lestat would let him. Lestat's the possessive one and Armand's the overprotective one.

Armand could use his powers to create soothing illusions for Lestat when he's feeling stressed re: court and/or having a PTSD moment (think of a therapeutic calming room for a child). Lestat would comfort Armand with physical embraces (like when Armand's crying and clinging to him after Marius is kidnapped in BC).

Given that they're two of the youngest ones in mortal age within their close circle (excluding Benji and Antoine), they would bond over their almost childlike innocence and wonder (and confusion) when it comes to modern mortal innovations.

Lestat admits in the PL-trilogy to liking Armand's taste in interior design, and I imagine their house would be the bougiest one out of all of the ships' by far.

The Fast-Food Meta

In-text, they're both attracted to each other, they kiss and admit to loving each other (several times), and consider each other family. They have so much history and so much in common in terms of their early life traumas (abusive childhoods, religious influences). As much as they clash and contrast, they also complement each other very well.

A large part of the draw for me with this ship is how they would exist outside of the maker/fledgling power dynamic--it's something Armand avoids and Lestat craves, and it's why I think it would be such a surrender for Lestat to intimately bond with someone that he doesn't weld such a significant power advantage over. Armand's always given Lestat a fair fight and a run for his money and that's intimidating to Lestat (rightfully so, even though he can respect and appreciate it).

Even if they're unmatched physically, Armand can balance that out easily with his mental gifts and wisdom combined with his basic understanding of Lestat. Lestat can't control Armand and furthermore, he doesn't want to! The only control Lestat would ever have over Armand is what Armand would permit him to have. Think about it... Armand's fiercely independent. Marius tried and failed to beat submission into him and Santino, of course, took it to another level. But with Lestat, Louis, and (human) Daniel, it's still a choice of when and how Armand's surrendering his power.

Adding another layer to this is the telepathic connection Lestat and Armand have (something Lestat cannot have with any of his fledglings and the same goes for Armand with Marius and Daniel). I think it would be an incredibly healing experience--such a comfort and security to both of them--if they existed in a relationship where that mental link wasn't removed from the equation. It's something I love to explore whenever I write A/L (psychological dynamics are where I live). Somewhat related: Lestat has never "written" from Armand's POV the way he has Daniel's, Marius's, and Louis's. Either Armand keeps his mind locked tighter than a steel trap around him or Lestat knows better than to go there.

Lastly, Armand finally snapped and told that boy to grow up and Lestat started making an effort the very next day.

🤲what do YOU get out of writing?

OMG I DONT KNOW! Like why do creative people feel the need to make stuff, I can't explain it. I just know that it's what I want to do as a creative outlet. And like usually (NOT LATELY BECAUSE THE LAST COUPLE MONTHS MY LIFE HAS BEEN A DISASTER) I reserve 9-10pm every night as WRITING TIME and like, it's not a chore for me! It's like a reward at the end of the day. So I spend all day thinking about what I'll write at 9pm when it's writing time. :D So there's like the half of it that's creative & spiritual to do, and also the half that's just like, my little Me Time that I allow myself that helps me unwind. :D

💋when you leave comments on a fic, do you want to hear back from the writer?

I DO but I don't get offended if they don't reply lol. But like ngl, if I notice a fic author doesn't reply to comments, I am less likely to leave a huge comment. Like one time I left a BOOK REPORT on a fic and the author replied to like, everyone EXCEPT me who was leaving emojis and stuff? And I felt really bad like I made them uncomfortable or something. So like. I tend to comment as I read and I like to copy & paste lines in and stuff, but if the author never replies I'm less likely to take the extra time to do this because I don't know if it's well received. 😅

✨What's a fic you've posted you wish you could breathe life into again and have people talking about it? (or simply a fic you wish got more credit)

jkgald wording it like that makes me squeamish but I felt like the gangbang fic I wrote for the BDSM zine kinda flopped 😬 like it has some comments and people who did comment were really excited but like, proportionally to my other Sheith fics it didn't do well. And I wasn't sure if it was like TOO MUCH or something, bc it got a lot of hits but not so many comments, like it made me wonder if people opened the link out of curiosity but then noped out. Like I have Sheith fics with less hits that have 2 or 3x the comments. Whoops! And I wonder if I overcomplicated it. IDK!!!!!!!!!! But I was happy with how it came out so it's not necessarily that I would want to like fix or anything. I just felt sad that no one liked it. 😂

💝what is a fic that got a different response than you were expecting?

I think maybe The Front ? I was a little overwhelmed by the response bc I thought I was being like extremely self indulgent and niche about my own kinks and people wound up being like SO excited and kind and generous with comments it just really surprised me. 😳 LIKE YOU DONT EVEN LEARN KEITH'S NAME FOR 21K, I was calling him "the creature" LMAOOOOOOOOOOO it just was like so extremely catered to my own individual needs I was surprised. 😂

💌share something with us about an up-and-coming work (WIP) that has you excited!

For Sheith right now I'm back to working on my fic Tonight the Stars Revolt! which is like a retelling of canon if they were friends with benefits who kept fooling around after near death missions to relieve stress and like I WROTE THE FIRST 50K IN A MONTH on my break after my first ship contract and I didn't intend for it to get so complicated and plotty and I also absolutely did not intend for the last few chapters to be like A YEAR APART FROM EACH OTHER but I kept getting distracted doing exchanges and stuff, and I kinda try to like alternate Sheith and VC so I'd write a chapter, then write a VC fic, then it was time to go back to Sheith but I had an exchange, then VC, then a zine, then VC, etc. It just really got away from me but like it's my baby and it's where I pour all my meta and headcanons and I think about it constantly so every time I return to it I'm very exciting! The upcoming chapter includes a flashback about BABY KEITH and his DAD and a SNAKE and I'm really excited about it. :)

FOR VC IM FOAMING AT THE MOUTH OBSESSING OVER WRITING A FIC ABOUT THE YEAR MARIUS WAS HELD CAPTIVE AND THE SEXUAL TENSION BETWEEN HIM AND HIS CAPTOR AND THE STAGES OF GRIEF FOR HIS FREEDOM, I hope to start writing it maybe in the new year hdkjslgasgdjal I can't stop thinking about it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have been... sitting on an idea of a collection of short fics for polynxx. Because I am starving for content. It’s a magic au where everybody gets a turn having the shit beat of em. In various ways lol I refuse to write and not include happy endings and fluff, so it’s just hurt/comfort But chapter 9 coming out has got me thinking about the au again and I’ve been fleshing it out (just abilities so I know what I’m writing) and I want to read all of these so bad. I’m so bad about finishing. I really really need to write these though. I think I’ll die if I don’t get them out lol I only have 3 of 5 ideas sorted out so far though. Rosa and Luke’s are the hardest for some reason. Luke because there’s so much to use it’s almost hard to find something unique and Rosa because I’ve been stuck trying to figure out Luke’s lol Anyways, Marius, Vyn and Artem’s are all figured out and outlined. The titles for each in the above order is Longing (to touch) Wanting (to know) Searching (for you) If anyone wants to talk about this lovely polycule or these ideas, please hmu. I never posted anything to this blog after the original post that I had used to help me get into a zine years ago lol so it’s doesn’t seem very active. But I’m hoping to change that.

This anon seemed disappointed that "people read less and less everyday. i don’t know a single person among my friends or family that bothers to read books of any kind... idk about [the AMC TV series] [bringing] new blood to the fan groups", but they didn't specify what age group they perceive isn't reading, just that "actually i don’t think i’ve met anyone who reads for pleasure since maybe high school."

This anon responded to the previous one that "I think the idea that the show wont bring in new readers is a little ridiculous tbh. Like when a new season of the Witcher TV show comes out the books are always on a waitlist at the local library," which, again, did not specify the age group of the people seeking the books.

I thought it was great to hear from the Library/book store worker anon that people under 25 do read books! They split the demographic to show that both people over & under 25 will read the books:

➡25+ demographic: "Fans of the show will read the books, even if only adult fans enjoy them." - Library/book store worker anon is speaking to the anon's negative feeling that people don't read, reassuring them that older/adult people will read the books. ➡Under 25 demographic: Library/book store worker anon also added, that from their perspective: "over half our customers are under 25," to provide evidence that younger people do read books.

Lol, well, I mean it depends on the vampire media, but there are VC vampire characters over 25 who are turned: Marius, Gabrielle, David (well, technically he's over 25). In other media, probably most of the What We Do in the Shadows TV and movie cast, other than Nick from the WWIDITS movie.

Yeah that does suck, when people say that, it's ageist and narrowminded, people will take low hanging fruit to bully each other on the internet.

So looking back through the conversation, maybe you can point me to where someone said that people who read the books and are over 25 aren't worth anything, I didn't get that impression from any of them...

But YES, people over 25 exist in fandom, engage and contribute in many ways, offering some of our perspective of fandom from our experiences ("what were zines like? what was strikethrough like?"), the questions about canon/characters that people debate over time ("Could Nicki have survived?"), as content creators with the skills we've developed over our lifetimes, offering comments/Kudos on fanart/fic, Likes/Reblogs, etc.

Overall: "Beauty companies will sell you aging is a curse, when in fact it's a blessing not given to most"

I am so obsessed with the les mis idea you have. how did you decide on casting who for what role?

thank you!! the casting was something I had thought about for a while (even before being part of the zine).

putting this under a read more because I wrote waaayy more than I thought I would...

I wanted to avoid letting Seisho character relationships influence the casting (e.g. MayaKuro as Valjean and Javert, HiKaren as Cosette and Marius with Mahiru as Eponine, etc.) because that isn't how real life casting works.

Some characters fell pretty quickly in place, such as Nana as Valjean and Claudine as Javert (though I did consider Claudine for Fantine as well but that was mainly because of the being blonde thing), and I used those as anchor points for the rest. A lot of it was also informed by the casting choices in starira cards/events too, like Maya as Thenardier arose because the game did a revival of the swimming event so I was rereading the story and Maya plays a comedy role as the antagonist's secretary which made want to put her in another comedic role. Similarly, Karen as Romeo inspired her as Marius, and Junna's Rapunzel card inspired her as Fantine (it also works with the classic of everyone who has played jvj having at some point also played the Phantom for Nana). After that it was just shuffling round who I thought would suit each character best based on singing voice and tone before I landed on the final casting.

I'm pretty sure there wasn't a single Seisho girl that didn't have at least 2 possible casting options, and I even thought about bringing in some of the other schools at some point as well (Shiori as Cosette would be so perfect). Which is all to say that there's like 3 alternative casts that I thought up before letting my Claudine (and Javert) favouritism win :')
