"She'll love it!" Steven chirped at you as you held the little plush in your hands.

"But are you sure?" You sighed, a frown creasing your lips.

"Of course, Layla loves silly little things like that." Steven chuckled, elbowing you.

It was your girlfriend's birthday today, and you've been having an internal struggle over the past week trying to think about what to get her. It's what drew you to the museum, where your best friend, Steven Grant worked.

He'd texted you about the new, two-foot-tall scarab plushies the gift shop just got in, and well... he figured it would be a cute gift idea. What with her Avatar name and nickname and everything...

"But are you sure--"

Steven laughs and shook his head, muttering your name. "She'll love it, I promise you that. Now, shoo! You've already bought it, now go on and tell me how it went tomorrow!"

You make a complaining noise as he playfully pushes you out of the gift shop, "Go, go!" He laughs some more.

As your feet slowly trudge out into the misty London afternoon, you protectively tuck the plushie you'd procured for your girlfriend beneath your jacket and zip it up.

You had to waddle awkwardly up the stairs to your flat, cursing yourself once you realized the lift was out of commission again--forcing you to trudge up the dingy corridors until you made it to your floor.

You kept your loot hidden beneath your jacket. Layla shouldn't have been over, just yet. She said she had work she was doing for Taweret today, and you hoped it took her longer than she said so you could have some time to wrap the soft toy up in some gift wrap to surprise her when she returned.

But... that was not your luck.

You poked your head into your flat, carefully pulling your keys out and slowly closing it the door, locking it behind you.

"Baby?" You hear Layla call out, "Is that you?"

You jump and fumble, dropping your keys, "N-No!" You immediately deny.

The slip-up makes you cringe. Gods, that was such a stupid response. No, of course it wasn't you. You were some burglar who just happened to have keys to your flat, and locked the door behind you after sneaking in.

"Oh? So there is just some random person who just happened to wear my partner's face, who just happened to have the keys to this flat in particular?" Layla's snarky voice said as she leaned in the counter in the kitchen, popping a marshmallow into her mouth.

You don't turn around, feeling a nervous sweat creep down your brow; "Uh--well, I just... No, but, I mean..."

"You're so cute when you babble." She giggled, pushing off the counter to walk up to you.

A dark eyebrow curves upwards on her forehead, "...Uh, babe? You gonna turn around?"

"Yes!" You reply a little too suddenly, your voice all too squeaky. "Er--no. Not til you turn around."

Layla sighs, grabbing your shoulder and spinning you to face her; her cheeky smile dropping in confusion as she spots the lumpy mass beneath your jacket. "Uh--"

"It's nothing!" You say, cursing the panicked crack in your voice.

"Theeeennn..." She looks you up and down. "Why do you look like you're pregnant with a lumpy pumpkin?"

Your eyes anxiously dart across the room, trying to come up with excuses--but of course, your floundering brain can't think of anything. Resigned to your fate... You unzip your jacket and hand your head, holding out the plushie to her, unable to make eye contact.

The silence is palpable; your heart fluttering nervously in your chest.

When you finally look up, she was squishing the plush scarab to her chest and giving you the biggest, cutest eyes you'd ever seen on a person.

"You got this for me??"

"Well... it's your birthday," You mumble, fiddling with your jacket. "I couldn't figure out what to get you, and Steven figured... Y'know... Scarlet Scarab..."

Layla sighed affectionately as she played with one of the legs on the plush toy, "Of course Steven would help..."

"I... sorry if it's not... fancy or anything." You apologize, rubbing the back of your neck.

"Who said a present needed to be fancy?" Layla asked, sounding almost offended on her new squishy friend's behalf, clutching it to her chest in disbelief, "This just means I have something to cuddle when I'm not home! You can't cuddle like, a necklace or anything!"

You blink dumbly, "You... you like it?"

Layla smiled and leaned in to place a soft kiss to your lips, "I love it."

You smile at her, and anyone looking at you two could practically see the cartoon hearts fluttering off the two of you.

"Love you." You sigh a little dreamily, pushing a stray mass of poofy curls behind her ear.

Layla kissed you again, smiling against your cheek;

"Love you more."

Marc's pov: Date Night

Summary: Post-show, Marc has set up a date night with Layla.

Promised Layla a night out after everything that went down with Harrow. Couldn’t remember the last time he’d done a date night. He felt a little guilt over that but he hoped he could make it up to her by showing her he was there now.

Marc didn’t have any reason to be so tense about getting ready. Found himself switching between clothes when none of them felt right. Couldn’t go in his usual garb right? He’d never usually cared about any of this, it was more Steven’s thing. The little Brit in his head jabbered on about going for a splash of more color but Marc just couldn’t bring himself to do it. Didn’t like the way the flashy shirts made him stand out in a crowd. The last thing he needed to be doing was bringing attention to himself.

It’s for Layla, insisted the voice. Marc rolled his eyes and tried on one more. A short-sleeved deep red flower pattern. Pulling it off his skin the second he saw himself in the mirror. Sure, it suited the guy in the reflection. Not him.

Steven complained as he pulled out some of his plainer interview clothes. Marc compromised with offering to let him pick the tie. Big mistake. Taking the white shirt and finding that didn’t make his skin crawl was his only comfort.

Don’t you dare grab that black one. At least wear one of my nicer ties! Nice to who?! The one he picked looked like the 90’s had vomited all over it. Greens, blues, purples and pinks splashed haphazardly all over. Marc got it around his neck and tied it into a simple knot. Letting it hang loose below the undone top button - much to Steven’s chagrin. Marc finally quirked his lip when he looked back in the mirror. “Nerd.” Oi! Heard that.

He went and got the flowers he’d brought earlier. Taped a bag of marshmallows around the stems. Needed his own little flair to the gesture Steven suggested. Chocolates wouldn’t do. Not for how amazing his wife had been throughout everything. Marc had seen what life was like without her. Thought it would have been better for her, but he should have known Layla was a force to be reckoned with.

Throwing his jacket on he was out the door and going to their meeting spot early. Found her waiting at the bar. Marc approached and took the space beside her. Catching eyes with the bartender and seeing they were busy serving someone else. He turned his attention to the gorgeous woman beside him. Drinking in the sight of her, a rise of his eyebrow.

“You probably get this a lot, but I’d do terrible things to spend a night with you.” Oh real smooth Marc, you want her to divorce you? “Mind if I join you? Had this for my date but… they’d be better in your hands I think.”

"It's alright," she replied politely, eyeing him as he made a show of his hot chocolate-making skills, "it doesn't hurt too much with the painkillers, and it could have been much worse. My dad saved me, he shot the monster dead." She kept to herself how she had slammed the pick axe in the monster's eye, even if she had shared that easily with the Theo in Ophir.

She moved uncomfortably in her chair, her fingers tightening their grip on her velvet ribbon. "She was strangling him", she explained first, as if to justify what she had been forced to do, next, "I struck her with my pick axe." Violet felt more haunted by how she had abandoned Rosie, but it didn't mean that what she had done to Layla felt any easier. She looked down at her ribbon, eyebrows knitted together. Maybe she should not have told this Theo about it.

The way she deflated was noticed but Theo assumed it was partly because of her dizzy spell. He carried on with the hot chocolate while he waited for her to settle and explain her theories further. So she could be injured in dreams but injuries from her real state did not follow her? Interesting indeed, he wondered how much of an injury would follow her from a dream if she were to get something more significant than a pin prick. He was in that moment at least, unaware of the bullet wound she had sustained from Ophir. "I'm sorry about your leg," he said eventually, eyeing her for a moment before finishing the drinks. He didn't hand them over though, moving for the fridge instead and pulling out the milk and a can of whipped cream.

"Whatever it is that made you land here, I am very grateful for it. You sound as if you need a safe and restful place for what's happened recently," he added the decorations and then finally picked up the cups to bring over to Violet. "And a little break from your leg too. You're not aware of any pain from it right now? Feels normal?" Could she in theory use the dream state to escape much worse injuries? A coma could be spent awake in another reality too if it were true.

It was not often that he slept mostly due to the fact that his body didn't need it. As long as his PAK was fully charged, he didn't need it. But on occasion the irken would drift off to slumber and dream. Dream of conquering the earth, earning the favor the Tallest, winning back any manner of respect he could earn...

But that small dream was quickly and effortlessly swallowed up by the all-consuming well of his failures. His mess-ups. His screw-ups. The black-outs, the deaths of previous Tallests, the failure of Operation Impending Doom 1, his trial....how lucky he had been that the control brains were driven mad by their attempt to delete him. He had been scared many times in his life. But that one? That one scared him the most. Zim still remembers the feeling of all his memories slowly but surely being erased. Forgetting his training...forgetting the bits of small praise during his youth...forgetting Gir...forgetting Minimoose...forgetting his first ever words.....I love you.

Zim jolted awake while in his chair and scrambled for a moment before realizing where he was. His heart was thumping loudly in his chest and antennae were flickering in every manner. It was just a dream. It was just a dream. It was just a dream.

The Marc-mallow Theory

So, we all remember Layla eating marshmallows while she was getting her fake passport made, right? And then again in the asylum, which as of episode 5 we're pretty sure is in Marc/Steven's mind?

So the question is, if no one from the Moon Knight system was there when Layla got the fake passport, why would the version of her in their mind be eating marshmallows?

I think the answer lies in the scene from young Marc's birthday. If you look at the table, you'll see a plate of - you guessed it - marshmallows!

So the theory is that Marc was the original marshmallow fan, he got Layla into them, and she continued to eat them even after they parted ways.

Bam! The Marc-mallow Theory.

the one day a year you can stuff your face without people judging you.

not that your family ever would, it’s just that basically almost everyone else did.

steven was busy doing his woman duties in the kitchen, cooking dinner while you and layla played uno at the table.

khonshu was playing too, so he was able to make himself so that layla could see him too.

you begged marc to let khonshu have a seat at the table, even though he can’t even eat.

marc definitely argued back though, explaining how manipulative he was for all those years, but still, to you he was just grandpa khonshu.

he ended the discussion by saying yes, not being able to say no to you.

you were just about to put down a yellow six on top of laylas blue six when your phone starts ringing in your pocket.

you make eye contact with layla and she smirks.

you send her a quick glare and fish your phone out of your pocket to see that casper was calling you.

“you better take that” layla voices, and you do so, while sending her a dirty look.

“sure. i was going to wish my very considerate girlfriend a happy thanksgiving but she’s being salty right now” casper tells you and you shake your head.

“fine. i guess i won’t save any bread for you” casper mumbles through the phone and you scoff.

“do both of you mind setting the table? we don’t have anything fancy, just the usual” he asks, and you make a face.

“actually, i ordered some festive plates. and some orange candles” you say, making steven turn to you with a hand over his heart.

“that’s the sweetest thing you could’ve done, thank you darling” steven gushes, and you just wave him off.

“it’s no big deal, i love doing this for you guys” you defend, going to your room to get the unpacked amazon boxes of fancy plates and candles.

you got orange candles. six of them, three to a stand. the stands were glass and had leaves carved on them.

the plates were tan-ish off white, and had red and orange leaves around the border.

you brought them out, four plates with the candles and the holders on top.

layla helped set it all up at the dinner table while steven finished up with all the food.

he was against it at first, cooking a turkey, but when he agreed with marc that he wouldn’t have to eat it he just decided to anyways.

it did creep him out though, having to cook that big of a bird.

but everything else was vegan friendly so he would have some nice leftovers.

well except for the turkey gravy.

you all sat down, and even khonshu decided to just sit in the empty chair across from marc, who was now fronting.

he just sat and stared, and layla made a face at him before turning back to marc.

layla made sure to bring champagne for the two adults, and some of your juice for you to pour in the fancy glasses.

the drinks were poured and marc took a breath before speaking.

“i guess it would be weird if i didn’t give some cliche movie speech about being thankful for my family, so i’ll just get it over with” he starts, and you snort trying to cover a short laugh.

marc either didn’t hear it or ignored you completely.

“so layla, you are way too nice for sticking around, i was unfair to you. but now i feel like i can focus on my life” he says, pointing the last part at khonshu.

“yes, i’m still technically serving you, but i’d like time. i want us to try and be a normal family” he aims that at both you and layla.

“and y/n, i don’t even need to say anything because i’m sure the pumpkin pie limited edition flavor pop tarts in the cupboard proves how much i love you” he jokes.

layla smacks him in the arm and sends him a glare. “just tell your daughter you love her, don’t make it difficult” she scolds and he makes a face.

“yeah dad, don’t you love me?” you ask, making your voice crack at the end of your sentence just to mess with marc.

and it works because he shoots his head to you, thinking that you were actually sad.

“y/n- hey! i’m making a joke! please don’t cry” he mumbles the last part, which makes you laugh.

he sighs in annoyance and rolls his eyes.

“i do love you” he makes eye contact with you. “as annoying as you are” he adds on and you smile.

“okay i’m done with that-“

“wait but now i have to do a speech too. you know- like the movies” you refer back to what he originally said and he nods, urging you to go on.

so you clear your throat and take a breath. “marc. dad. father-“

“hurry up i’m hungry” jake complains and you roll your eyes.

“thank you again. all of you, both of you.” you begin, referring to steven, marc, and jake when you say all, and layla added on when you say both.

“for adopting me. you’re the best parents i could ask for” you end quietly, and you look up from your lap to see that marc and layla were holding hands atop of the table.

“okay now we’re done. i’m hungry” you say, which makes both marc layla, and even khonshu let out a short chuckle.

thanksgiving dinner was brought to you by marc feeding pedro and luna turkey from under the table, and then being caught, forcing him to tell everyone he hates cats just to lie.

khonshu just poked around at the food and eventually left to raid the marshmallows you got for him.

pumpkin spice flavored, and he loved them.

though it felt short, it felt right, since all your family was where you wanted them to be.

Headcanon list for MCU Diatrice

I think it would be cute if mk system and Layla had their own Diatrice(Diya) like in the comics

Her name is Diyaa Bellatrix Spector

Layla picked "Diyaa" since it means light, star, brilliant

UPDATE: Google lied to me, Diyaa in Arabic is usually a male's name. However, Google says Diya in Hindi and Tamil is a girls name that also means light and lamp Diya is named after Layla's best friend from college who was Indian

Layla's family initially opposed it because "it's a boys name" but Layla wanted to honor her friend and likes the idea of a girl with a traditional "masculine" name

Bonus meaning, sounds like the word "Day" (Dia) in Spanish, opposite of Layla (night)

Marc picked Bellatrix, like the star "not like the Harry Potter character."

When Steven finally met her, he proposes "Diatrice" as a nickname, a combination of her two names Marc: "Diatrice isn't a real name you can't call her that" Steven: "Diatrice sounds like Beatrice and that's a real name. She's likes it and she's my daughter too, I can call her Diatrice if I want."

Jake has a variety of Spanish nicknames for her: "mi luz, mi reina, mi amorsito, etc."

Her hair is the same as Layla so it was a learning curve for the guys.

Steven is the best at it, he's gentle and massages her head and likes to add cute little bows and accessories

Her favorite way is to wear it in two little buns because they look like bear ears

Jake just puts cat hears and little tiaras on her, depending on the vibe

Marc tries but he's so bad at doing different hairstyles. There are always flyaways

Diya really wanted pink hair. Cried to Layla about it so much

There's no way in hell Layla is bleaching her baby's hair. But she can't resist her puppy hears so she compromises and gets her some pink clip-in extensions

Trying to raise her trilingual (one parent one language). Most fluent in Arabic and English but understands a lot of Spanish

Once Jake starts to front around the house more, she gets more exposure and starts to pick up better

likes Katy Perry and Olivia Rodrigo. Sings it at the top of her lungs when they're driving

On weekend mornings, likes to sneak into her parent's bed for cuddles

Marc loves this, especially after nightmares/bad sleep

Steven always reads her a bedtime story (He does the best voices)

one time (several times) she bit a kid at the playground

Steven had to scold her for that but Jake snapped at the other parents for yelling at his daughter

Diya mirrors a lot of Layla's behaviors/habits, mainly constantly reminding her dad of different things. "Papi, did you remember to beep beep? (lock the car)" "Papi, did you remember to feed the kitty?"

Just like both of her parents, she's very stubborn and bossy. Marc, Jake and Layla have to resort to bribing her with mini marshmallows.

Steven doesn't like this, worried they're giving her too much sugar. Although he's not above bribery, he just uses berries instead

Doesn't really know/understand her dad's DID. She just knows that some bad stuff happened to dad growing up and it's still scary for him sometimes

But no matter who's fronting, it's still her dad and he'll protect her so it's ok
