so for this post from ovegakart i'm imagining spell rules going along these lines...
Nayru's Shield: Level 3 Abjuration Casting Time: 1 Action Range: Self Components: V, S, M (A blessing from a Great Fairy worth 1000 rupees) Duration: Concentration, up to 1 minute The love and protection of the goddess Nayru shields you. You gain resistance to all damage for the duration. Additionally, this spell also summons a magic shield into your hand, granting the benefits of wielding a shield even if you are not proficient with shields. If you do not have a free hand, the shield does not appear, and this benefit is not granted. Finally, this spell also generates an emanation of protection around you, granting a +1 bonus to AC for any ally inside it, you excepted.
Nayru's Mirror: Level 3 Abjuration Casting Time: 1 Action Range: Self Components: V, S, M (A blessing from a Great Fairy worth 1000 rupees) Duration: Concentration, up to 1 minute The love and protection of the goddess Nayru reflects damage directed at you. You gain resistance to all damage for the duration. Additionally, creatures of your choice within 5 feet of you must make a Dexterity saving throw, taking 2d6 force damage on a failed save or half as much damage on a successful save, as shards of Nayru's protection strike them. Finally, ranged weapon attacks and ranged spell attacks that hit you are reflected off of you after dealing their damage, striking the original attacker for half their damage.
Notes: I split Nayru's Love into two spells, for Link and for Zelda. For Link: I figure this should be a hefty spell given the immense benefits it offers, but still accessible to an Eldritch Knight like Link. So I made it level 3. I'm also not sure about the concentration on it, since you can get smacked but it doesn't drop, I just wanted to make it slightly less busted by making it eat the caster's Concentration. For Zelda: More offensive, I originally thought like Armor of Agathys but re-read the handwriting and realized lol nope. So I made it so enemies who attack and hit you take the half damage that the shield stops you from eating.
Farore's Wind: Level 3 Conjuration Casting Time: 1 Action Range: Self Components: V, S, M (A blessing from a Great Fairy worth 100 rupees) Duration: Instantaneous Briefly surrounded by the divine gales of the goddess Farore, you teleport to a location within sight. Using a Higher-Level Spell Slot: You can teleport to any location you know within 1000 feet (4th level spell slot), any location you know within 5 miles (5th level spell slot), any location you know within 100 miles (6th level spell slot), or to any location you know on this plane of existence (7th level spell slot). If you cast this spell at 5th level or higher, there is a cumulative 15% chance for each level above 4th it is cast at (up to 45% with a 7th level spell slot) for a mishap to occur, sending you to a false destination. Holding or carrying an object linked to the intended destination removes this chance.
Notes: I figure the inspiration spells for this should be Misty Step (but range increased to 'anywhere within sight'), Dimension Door (range increased), and Teleport. It's a sort of catch-all spell. The only issue is that, in order to make it NOT BUSTED AS FUCK (which is already is tbh), I had to level-scale it, which seriously kneecaps Link as an Eldritch Knight. I also had to add in that a mishap can occur because even Teleport isn't perfect.
Din's Fire Level 3 Evocation Casting Time: 1 Action Range: Self Components: V, S, M (A blessing from a Great Fairy worth 300 rupees) Duration: Instantaneous An explosion of Din's holy flames blasts from you in a 20-foot emanation. Each creature in this emanation makes a Dexterity saving throw, taking 8d6 fire damage on a failed save or half as much damage on a successful one. Flammable objects in the area that aren't being worn or carried start burning. Using a Higher-Level Spell Slot: The damage increases by 1d6 for each slot level above 3.
Notes: It's Fireball as an emanation, why not.
Zelda's Light Level 3 Transmutation Casting Time: 1 Bonus Action Range: Touch Components: V, S Duration: 1 hour You touch a nonmagical weapon. Until the spell ends, that weapon becomes a magic weapon with a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls. Additionally, when a creature hits another creature with that weapon, a bright flash of light accompanies the strike. The target must make a Constitution saving throw (using the caster's spell save DC) or be blinded until the end of its next turn. This spell ends early if you cast it again. Using a Higher-Level Spell Slot. The bonus increases to +2, and the weapon deals an additional 3d6 radiant damage with a 4-6 level spell slot. The bonus increases to +3, and the weapon deals an additional 6d6 (instead of 3d6) radiant damage with a 7+ level spell slot.
Notes: It's magic weapon but added blinding and radiant.
Lens of Truth Wondrous Item, Very Rare (requires attunement) While wearing this lens over your eyes, you have Truesight with a range of 120 feet.
Notes: Should this be legendary? True Seeing is a 6th level divination spell, so maybe! I made it attunement so you can't just pass it between people for a free action or whatever and you need to know it well to use it.
BONUS POINTS (or rather, an edit)
Ocarina of Time Wondrous Item, Artifact This ocarina has been protected by the royal family of Hyrule for ages, and is said to have a powerful connection to the unnamed goddess of time. You can take a Magic action to play a song on the Ocarina of Time, with each song producing a different effect or casting a spell. You must know a song in order to play it.
Zelda's Lullaby – When you play this song, this Ocarina opens a magical lock, or has other magical effects based on other locations which specify this song. This song has no effect on nonmagical locks. Epona's Song – When you play this song, you can cast the spell Find Steed at its base level of 2. Saria's Song – When you play this song, you can cast the spell Sending. The only possible recipient of the spell when cast in this way is the Fey known as Saria. Sun's Song – When you play this song, you can cause day to become night or night to become day, depending on what time it is when you play it. The passage of this time is instantaneous to the Ocarina's player, and does not confer the benefits of a long or short rest, nor does it impose the penalties of forgoing a long rest. Song of Time – When you play this song, you can open the Door of Time or cause obstacles bearing the symbol of the goddess of time to permanently disappear. If this song is played in the realm of Termina, it has an entirely different effect: You can go back in time to a maximum of three days, although in doing so you must forfeit all ammunition (nonmagical and magical) and rupees to go back. Upon returning to the past, all magic item charges are restored, and you gain the benefits of a Long Rest. You cannot use the Song of Time again for another three days. Song of Storms – When you play this song, you can cause the weather around you to suddenly and inexplicably become intensely stormy and rainy, complete with thunder and lightning. This storm lasts for ten minutes, after which time it vanishes. Effects of the storm remain. Warp Songs – When you play any of these songs, you can cast the spell Teleportation Circle, with each song being linked to a specific circle and sending those who stand in the circle's area there: the Minuet of the Forest will send to Kokiri Forest; the Bolero of Fire will send to Death Mountain's crater; the Serenade of Water will send to Lake Hylia; the Nocturne of Shadow will send to the graveyard of Kakariko Village; the Requiem of Spirit will send to the Desert Colossus in the Gerudo Desert; and the Prelude of Light will send to the Temple of Time in Hyrule Castle Town. Scarecrow's Song – When you play this song, you magically summon a wooden scarecrow to a location you can see within 60 feet of you. The Scarecrow is a Construct with 10 HP, AC 10, a movement speed of 0 ft., and immunity to psychic and poison damage. It vanishes when you play this song again. Inverted Song of Time – When you play this song, you can cast the spell Haste on yourself. Song of Double Time – When you play this song, you can magically cause twelve hours of time to pass by. The passage of this time is instantaneous to the Ocarina's player, and does not confer the benefits of a long or short rest, nor does it impose the penalties of forgoing a long rest. Song of Healing – When you play this song, you can cast the spell Calm Emotions, with the added ability to affect any creature capable of having emotions as opposed to solely humanoids. Song of Soaring – When you play this song, you can cast the spell Dimension Door. Elegy of Emptiness – When you play this song, you can create a lifeless statue of yourself. This statue is an eerie reflection of you and weighs the same as you do. It is a Construct that has an amount of Hit Points equal to half your maximum Hit Points, your Armor Class, and it has immunity to psychic and poison damage. It is also incapable of moving on its own.
Notes: No Sonata of Awakening, Goron Lullaby, New Wave Bossa Nova, or Oath to Order because they have extremely specific purposes.

That is low key amazing, and exactly what i'd do if i were to design a ttrpg. In fact, me and my friend kind of are, and... we are guilty of this too, in one of our illustrations. For a musical spell, the notes that float over the head of the illustration may or may not be from an actual song...
It's been said before, but goddammit I love the material components for spells in D&D. They're so stupid.
Detect Thoughts requires a copper to cast. Gust of Wind needs beans. Sunbeam requires a magnifying glass. Passwall uses sesame seeds.
Darkvision needs fucking. Carrots.

grass demon as a human?
I prefer the grass demon as an alter of Fern's but babbs and I had fun w/ this idea.
They spange near the bus stop and Fionna would toss them $3 every so often, so they got attached and came on too strong. They try to pay Fionna back but they approach life so differently that it always works out wrong/appears malicious. (They're very cluster A.) GD challenges Fionna's convictions pretty routinely: they set their tent up outside of her apartment, and she's vehemently against street sweeps but she really wants to call one in to get them to leave, as an example. They meet Fern through their job (their dad's landscaping business) and, again, come on too strong. They believe in twin flame junk and are convinced they can see Fionna and Fern's connection, so they glom onto Fern because she's much more of an insecure pushover.
Babb wanted them to be roommates but I like the grass demon just being a weird, offputting little stage 5 clinger that follows Fern around tbh.
#I'm making them intersex/46XX#cuz my demon HC makes them all chimeric anyway if they arent made out of men/mutants w/ no other materials/animals added#usually a demon is made from two or more animals which means they get conflicting sexes in the recipe 99% of the time#this carries over to the F&C world and presents itself as an intersex condition (which one depends on F/M component % breakdown)#i didnt want to make them SWYER to avoid self insert accusations so 46XX it is.#his/ours#his#fionna and cake#adventure time#fern the human#flora the human#grass demon at#grass demon#asks#doodle page

prayge i actually decide to work on this
Nobody doesnt know its actual name cause its alchemist got killed by a rival alchemist before he could name it (it was made in a panic hence its imperfection lines). the rival wanted to take Nobody and was about to name it but it panicked and ran away before she could do so
its recommended to create homunulli in a neutral state so as not to influence their souls in creation, but unfortunately since Nobody was made in a panic it now lives in a perpetual state of fear and paranoia. on the flipside Victor was really excited to make Aphrodite so now it's the happiest and most excitable creature on earth
#mine.art#mine.ocs#grotesque violence#gv aphrodite#gv nobody#some more homunculi facts#the average alchemist needs to kill 4 ppl to gather enough blood for human-sized blood homunculi due to the difficulty of extracting it#the most effiicient way to create blood homunculi is to have a homunculus that can manipulate liquids gather the blood for you#but even then you still need at least 2 ppl to make one which makes it absolutely not worth it for most ppl#esp since hospitals arent just gonna hand you blood to make your fuckass homunculi#ink homunculi would be the most common if it wasnt for how dangerous; physically unstable; and impossible to repair they are#homunculi also come in other colors; patterns; and sizes and may also decide to wear clothes#aphrodite and nobody were both created from a basic template meant for students in their final year of transfiguration college#this template comes with the necessary materials meaning they have similar components and proportions#except nobody's alchemist fucked up a lil creating it cause of how much he was rushing hence the imperfection lines#also theyre both 4'0"#im still undecided on if i want the grotesque to be an inherent part of homunculi creation or if theyre applied after#<- important cause it'll decide on whether nobody has a grotesque form or not

Starry-Eyed
A little something about one of my D&D characters, an owlin Circle of Stars druid named Gienah.
contents: character expecting to die, dehydration, amnesia.
~~~
He opened his eyes to the endless starry sky above him. There were sensations and stimuli - dull, pulsating pain in his head and back, gentle sloshing of water, a hard wooden surface beneath him - but he was too captivated by the sky to pay attention to any of them, his eyes following the stars, searching for paths between them to create constellations. He couldn’t help but smile, which then turned into almost tearing up from how overwhelmed he was by the beauty and grandness of the sky.
When he took a deep breath, the pain intensified, snapping him back to his senses and making him wince. Why was he in pain?
Where was he?
He sat up abruptly and immediately hissed when his head protested this sudden change in position. When his ears stopped ringing and his vision cleared, he looked around, and what he saw chilled him to the core.
He was in a small boat, alone, and all around him, as far as the eye could see, were the inky depths of the ocean.
There had to be something, though, right? Land or a ship, because he couldn’t have been in this boat for too long, considering he was still alive and felt… alright, aside from the pain. He must have ended up here somehow, but how?...
His head throbbed with agony again, but he was determined as he searched deep within his mind.
“Gienah!”
He flinched at the auditory memory, a word said in an authoritative tone that almost made it sound like he was going to be yelled at.
He? Yes, because the word was his name. Gienah. He was sure of that.
Other than that, though, there was nothing. He was trying to remember, but it felt like he was grasping at the thinnest threads that slipped out of his hands and disappeared, pages in a book that faded in front of his eyes, and there was nothing, nothing, nothing, he was lost and in pain and he was going to die.
He looked around frantically, but there didn’t seem to be much in the boat, other than two oars. No food, no fresh water - and he did make sure, rummaging through the boat before having to accept that there really wasn’t anything that could help him survive. He had no way of getting out of here- No, he had wings. He was an…. owlin, that was the word. He spread his wings a bit just to remember the sensation, and grimaced when a spike of… something hit his mind. A bad memory, maybe? He’d take bad memories over no memories, but the spike passed, leaving behind a vaguely upsetting void.
Regardless, he knew he didn’t have enough stamina to just fly forever, so leaving the boat when there was no land in sight would be an even more certain death sentence. He shuddered, imagining crashing into the sea, resigned and exhausted. No, he’d have to choose a direction and row, and hope he would come across some land he could fly to. And then… He didn’t know. He’d decide when he survived.
Dizziness overwhelmed him, so he lay back down, just for a moment, until he felt strong enough to start rowing. Was he even strong enough, though? It sure didn’t feel like it.
No matter. He stared up at the night sky, at the moon and the stars, and he never wanted to go back to the horrifying reality of his current situation.
As he lay there, slipping into comforting mindlessness, he realized that one of his pockets felt heavier than the other. With a small spark of hope, he reached inside, and his fingers closed around a small object. When he held it up to examine it closely, illuminated by moonlight, he realized that it was some kind of whistle, made of gold-colored wood. He turned it this way and that, looking it over with narrowed eyes, but as much as he’d hoped that his seemingly only possession, barring the clothes on his back, would give him some answers, it ended up resulting in even more questions, especially when he realized that his beak didn’t even let him use it. Why would he have this? Was it really his? How did it end up with him if it wasn’t? He sighed and dropped the whistle back into his pocket, fixing his eyes on the sky again, only to have yet another realization.
He’d chalked the sensation up to hunger up until now, but he realized it was something different, a swirl of… energy inside him, and when he raised his hand, almost automatically, he remembered something, whispered a few words, and a few sparks appeared in his hand, only to fade away. Magic. It was magic.
His name was Gienah, he was an owlin, and he knew how to use magic. That was a start. What kind of magic was it, though? He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, tuning into the energy inside him, or… not really inside him, not to begin with, instead creeping closer from all around him, from the sea and the sky, from the fish and the seagulls. It came from nature, then. What was this called?
He knew the word, but couldn’t recall it, as if he’d hit a wall in his mind. Not like it mattered right now, anyway; his magic didn’t feel strong and focused enough to help him. He had to do his best on his own, then. He had to survive if he wanted to avoid dying out here and becoming food for the seagulls.
So he sat up, rolled his shoulders, picked up the oars and started rowing. He’d much rather do this during the day, but every second was precious in this race against time. Besides, he could focus on a specific star - the brightest one - and use it to stay on course. He could do this.
Just like he suspected, he wasn’t very strong, but determination pushed him forward. It didn’t matter if his arms felt like they were on fire, he had to push himself far beyond his limits if he wanted to survive, even when the pain was forcing tears out of his eyes. Only when he felt his muscles fully give out did he take a break, letting go of the oars to massage his sore arms and breathe deeply. Looking around, he still saw nothing but the open sea, but it was going to change. It had to.
Having to go back to rowing filled him with dread, his entire body screaming at him to save himself from the strain, but he had no choice. Although… He focused on his apparent magic again. Could he do anything to make this easier for himself, even though he wasn’t especially powerful? Drawing from nature…
Frowning, he touched one of the oars. It was made of wood, not entirely smooth, though not rough enough for splinters, giving off a makeshift feel. A competent work from an amateur - and he could do something with it.
He grabbed both oars and closed his eyes. Just like with the sparks earlier, it was… an instinct, something that he had practiced so many times that even his mangled memory wasn’t an obstacle. He whispered a few words and tapped his fingers on the oars, and…
He opened his eyes slightly and gasped when he saw the oars glowing with thin veins of light that permeated the wood and climbed up. The oars felt… lighter, somehow, and when he put them in the water and pushed, there was less resistance than before. It worked. He could do this - this time the reassurance had more conviction behind it.
This continued into the next day, casting his spell, rowing, resting, searching for land or a ship, focusing only on the task at hand, because he knew that if he gave in to hopelessness, he would only doom himself. He could barely feel his arms, but he kept rowing, forcing himself into a murderous routine, tuning out everything else. His fingers were sore and stiff, and he felt like they were frozen solid every time he had to open his hands to let go of the oars. The only mercy was the weather, the sun peeking out from behind the clouds from time to time; he wasn’t sure if he’d be able to handle being constantly exposed to its scorching heat.
Night finally fell, and he took a moment to look up at the stars once again. There was something… soothing about them. They were constant, unchanging, always there, unswayed by what was going on in the mortal realm. Uncaring, maybe, and yet… calming in a way.
Slightly reinvigorated, he went back to rowing until he passed out from exhaustion.
When he woke up in the morning, his throat was bone-dry. He tried to clear it, but all it achieved was sending him into a coughing fit that only made matters worse. He was parched, and there was nothing he could do about it. Hunger was also making itself known, but it was a less pressing concern. Dehydration was going to kill him much faster than starvation.
It took all his willpower to fall back into the routine. Row, don’t stop rowing, ignore the pain, then the numbness, the hopelessness that squeezed his heart like a clawed hand, piercing it, tormenting it. Ignore the shallowness of his breath. Ignore the dark spots dancing before his eyes. Ignore the thirst, the thirst, the thirst. Ignore the fast approaching lonely death.
Then he started slipping. With what little strength he had almost completely gone, even supported by magic, he wasn’t even pushing at the oars hard enough for the boat to gain considerable speed, and the gentle waves, while more welcome than a storm, weren’t of much help. His hands were shaking, his shoulders were locked in agony. He let out a sob, then another, until he broke down fully, still rowing, still fighting, even though there was no point. Tears were clouding his vision until he could barely see anything, and maybe he was going in circles, there were no stars guiding him after all, it was so hopeless.
With a frustrated groan, he fell backwards, hitting the bottom of the boat hard, staring at the heavy, overwhelming clouds hanging over him, as if the sky was threatening to come down and crush him. At least it would be a quicker death.
He shuddered. Despite his hopelessness, he still… he didn’t want to give up. He could still try. At night, maybe, when he could use the stars to navigate. Right now he just needed to rest.
His sleep was fitful, he tossed and turned, unsure whether he was waking up from time to time or simply dreaming. His headache was killing him, his body felt heavy like lead, and his heart had sunk deep into the ocean.
When night came, he opened his eyes, but saw no stars. The night sky was obstructed by clouds.
Before he knew it, he was crying again, dryly, because he was too dehydrated for tears. He really was going to die here, barely remembering who he was and not remembering his life, what had led up to this, at all. Not knowing whether anyone would search for him, miss him, mourn him. Alone, heartbroken and scared, with nothing and no-one to comfort him in his final moments.
Exhausted, Gienah allowed himself to fall back asleep, not knowing if he would wake up again.
the veilguard cursed boba tea weapons are really making me laugh for some reason. why did anyone make those... they're SO ugly, i'm sorry. i want to see their pinterest reference board bc i am so curious about what the deal is. why the Orbs?? why do the swords not even look SHARP? like what was the intent? it does NOT look spooky except if you're directly trying to activate someone's trypophobia, it just looks vaguely gross and impractical 😭
#i preferred the cheese shield in dai for Silliness#these just legitimately look like... slightly uncomfortably oily milk tea with tapioca#it's not eldritch... it's not giving void themes... it doesn't look very mysterious or conspiracy-themed#it looks like tevinter opened an unsanitary blood magic chatime outlet#veilguard critical#i guess#i'm mostly just shitposting but omg#there's so many more interesting things they could've gone with if they wanted a truly ''alien weird materials'' vibe#living plants. origami-style folded paper that's Somehow as durable as rock. just a really stark plain black circle for the void theme.#classic medusa style of having a face with eyes on it#something that implies really weird ecology like a giant butterfly wing or something#idk. just anything besides ''the mysterious people from across the sea use rancid boba as their primary weapon component'' 😭
Horn
ah the humble horn. made of keratin (or bone in the case of antlers), horns are typically found on ungulate creatures such as cows, sheep, antelope, deer and unicorn. they can have quite impressive shapes sometimes, such as in the curling spirals of markhor goats or the temperature-regulating satellite dishes of watusi cattle
in cows and deer, the loss of horn isn't typically too much of an issue, being naturally shed by the latter every year and in the former capable of trimming as one would a fingernail. We don't typically use them much nowadays outside of hobbyist artworks, but at one point in history they were vital
Did you know that before baking soda became popular, bakers used a material called hartshorn, which was made by the drying and distillation of red deer antlers?
there's also the famous viking drinking horns, and the traditional Jewish shofar, still used in ceremonies to this day
before we had widespread usage of plastic and glass, hollow cow's horns would be cut into sections, unrolled and polished to a level of transparency/translucency that made them useful as window panes or for children's hornbooks used to teach reading
And of course, I couldn't make a list of horns without mentioning those of the unicorn and dragon, used for ages in all manner of magic and medicine
That's all for now! see you again next time!
