Guys, does Knuckles understand gender?

By the logic of biology, Knuckles is biologically female due to the lack of ankle spurs

(biologically male echidnas have ankle spurs similar to platypus, but are non-venomous),

but that doesn't necessarily mean Knuckles would ever conform to being a girl/woman.

We need to keep in mind that Knuckles grew up entirely alone on Angel Island.

The only influences he could've possibly found for any concept of gender were whatever his ancestors left behind. There was no one to sit him down and explain it.

So even once Knuckles was introduced to gender & pronouns, even once Tails &/or Amy or just someone sat him down and explained it.

Would he completely understand it? Would he even care to?

Or would he just keep living the way he has been this whole time?

Without a label but just as comfortable. No needing to second guess. No feelings of dysphoria.

Just living how he always had and being happy that way.

I've recently grown to like the concept of a labeless Knuckles. It just makes sense to me.
