Jason: I came to make peace. But I’m starting to reconsider.

Jason: I guess you haven’t changed your mind. Last chance to come back. I’m leaving in an hour.

Max: No. I’m staying. 

Jason: What do you see in this place? It’s driving me crazy, it’s so quiet. 

Max: I like quiet.

Jason: What did they do to you? The Max I know gets fuckin’ riled up over nothin’. He gets fucked up every other night of the week. He doesn’t go to bed as soon as the sun comes down and he certainly doesn’t get heartbroken over a clueless pretty rich girl.

Max: Whatever changed me happened before I came here. 

Jason: Was it the job?

Max: It’s part of it.

Max: You said you came to make peace. What are the terms?

Jason: You know, these people, they’ll never accept you for who you are. They’ll never understand. 

Max: I just can’t do what you want me to do, Jace.

Celia: Ag-... Have they always been so… violent towards you?

Max: Nah… They used to threaten me and that would be enough. It’s only when I realized I was strong enough to confront them that they tried to hit me. Gabe would never have been able to get the best of me if I hadn’t been hungover.

Celia: That’s horrible! How can you be so calm about this?! I’m so, so angry...

Max: I’ve felt so free since I’m out on my own, I just don’t care anymore. Fuck them. They can make all their stupid decisions, it’s not my problem from now on. 

Celia: It’s not just that, it’s… [how they had you believe this is all you deserved.]

Max: What?

Celia: Nothing… I just never thought I could feel so much hate toward another person. 

Max: Well, you shouldn’t. I closed that door. I moved on. [If she hates them, what will she think of me?] You tell me if you wanna stop.

Celia: No, I’m listening.

Max: You’re making a face.

Celia: Oh stop it! I’m not making that face.

Max: Yes, you are. Aren’t you wondering how I was able to give thousands of dollars at a time to my parents?

Celia: Stealing cars and credit card fraud.

Max: Then you know I harmed people. Innocent people.
