Snippet Sunday
“What were the two of you planning to do with this anyway?” he asks Maya and Alex now, hefting the evidence bag into the air in an attempt to divert his thoughts away from that hellish meeting. The couple exchanges an unreadable look before Maya gives a shrug that seems almost too casual. “It was my intention to scry with it,” she says cheerfully, grin widening as Shayne nearly chokes on his own tongue in surprise. “Scry with it,” he repeats incredulously. “Are you kidding me?” “Nope,” she replies, eyes sparkling. Shayne waits for her to elaborate, but apparently that’s as much as he’s going to get out of her on that particular subject. He decides to retreat back to more stable conversational ground. “You didn’t contaminate the evidence at all, did you?” Maya wrinkles her nose in an expression that shouldn’t be nearly as attractive as it is. “Of course not,” she replies. “We’re not amateurs.” There are several things Shayne considers saying in response, but he discards them all in favor of a very neutral, “Okay.”

New Post has been published on http://www.visionmp.com/urban-development-and-housing-minister-makes-the-claim-at-a-swachcha-bharat-abhiyan-2018-review-meeting/
'Madhya Pradesh achieves complete door-to-door garbage collection'
Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh government has claimed to have become the first state in the country to fully achieve the target of the door-to-door garbage collection in areas under urban bodies.
“Madhya Pradesh has become the first state in the country to achieve the 100 per cent door-to-door garbage collection target in urban bodies,” Urban Development and Housing Minister Maya Singh said at a “Swachcha Bharat Abhiyan 2018” review meeting held on January 15.
She said the door-to-door garbage management was carried out after the state got rid of “ill practices” like open defecation in urban areas, a government release issued on Wednesday quoted the minister as saying.
Singh said works like solid waste management at landfill sites and processing through the Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode are being carried out in urban areas.
The minister directed concerned officials to file a weekly report on the progress of works related to solid waste management centres.
She said the work of garbage collection should continue on holidays as well.
Urban Administration Principal Secretary Vivek Agrawal said the Swachhata Sarvekshan (survey) 2018 was underway in Madhya Pradesh like in other parts of the country.
He said the survey was completed in 26 urban bodies in the first phase so far while in the second phase rest urban bodies across 51 districts will be covered.
“A nodal officer has been appointed in each of the 51 districts in the state for monitoring the door-to-door garbage collection,” Agrawal added.

Snippet Sunday
Maya pops her head up from behind the orange juice machine she’s using as cover and then immediately regrets it when she takes a head of red leaf lettuce to the face. A chorus of hysterical giggles erupts from the other side of the supermarket’s produce department, underscored by a triumphant feline yowl. “Okay,” she says, exasperated. “Right. That’s about enough of that, I think.” She sketches a sigil in the air and summons a small shield bubble right as a napa cabbage comes sailing towards her; the cabbage crashes into the magical forcefield with a sad sound that’s somewhere between a crunch and a squish, and flops to the floor. “Haruna,” she says now, “I’m going to count to ten. If you are still flinging vegetables around when I get to the end of my count, I am going to spell you into the air, dangle you upside down, and tie your tails into bowline knots. Understand?” “Don’t listen to her, Runa, she’s just bluffing,” one of Haruna’s friends hisses. “I’m really not,” Maya assures them, and uses a spark of magic to levitate a trio of cantaloupes and set them dancing midair as if juggled by a phantom performer. “So, what’ll it be, kids?”

Snippet Sunday
Silence is the only thing that greets her at first, but right as she’s about to stand back up a long slender arm shoots out of the water, strong fingers wrapping around her wrist in an iron grip. Instinct makes Maya’s heart lurch in her chest, alarm spiking, but experience has her taking a deep breath, shifting her balance so that she remains planted firmly on the ground even when the hand clutching at her gives a savage yank in an attempt to topple her into the water. “I’m not really in the mood for a drowning today,” she remarks, keeping her tone light but firm, so that the nøkk beneath the surface of the water knows that she’s not intimidated. The grip around her wrist tightens briefly, then releases completely, long fingers uncurling as Halvar reveals himself completely. As his head and upper body breach the surface, Maya can’t help but notice that the nøkk looks largely the same as the last time she’d seen him three years ago: pale gray-blue skin and long hair the color of eelgrass, with bright silvery eyes that glow like a full moon on a cloudless night. “Fire-witch,” Halvar says by way of greeting, voice rippling like a stream cascading over rocks. “What brings you here?”

Snippet Sunday
“What do you think?” Alexander asks as Maya mutes the television at the end of the news conference. “Ghouls?” Maya gives a low hum, tugging absently at the hamsa pendant hanging from her neck. “It could be, I guess,” she acknowledges. “But you know as well as I do that ghouls these days favor dead flesh; it’s not like them to go for fresh meat, much less kill for it. A ghoul with a preference for living flesh would be a very old one indeed.” “True,” Alexander agrees. “And given where Sinclair’s body was found…it doesn’t really add up, does it? Contemporary ghouls would be more likely to strike San Carlos Cemetery, dig up some of the bodies there. Chasing down a jogger isn’t really typical behavior.” “No,” Maya says with a sigh. “It’s not. Which leaves us with one very important question: if not ghouls, what is doing this?” “I don’t know,” Alexander replies. “But we’ll find out.”

📝 (memoir) and 🖋️ (poetry) for the genre ask game if you want. :)
Thank you for the ask! I love doing these. :D
Memoir 📝: what would your author bio say if you got the chance to publish?
That I’m a tremendous nerd, most likely!
A more serious answer is: I haven’t actually thought that much about it! I’ve been so focused on telling the story of Arise that not a lot of thought has been given to telling anyone about myself haha. Probably it would say something about how I’ve loved writing and world-building since a very young age and that I spend the majority of my free time writing, reading, researching all sorts of random topics, listening to jazz music, and playing video games.
…so, yeah, my bio would say that I’m a nerd. ;D
[you're actually the second person to ask this, which- I'm flattered that you guys are asking about me haha]
Poetry 🖋️: give us a taste of your writing with a literary technique (rhyme, descriptive language, alliteration etc).
Here is a snippet from Chapter 11 of Arise, which I’ve been told has some nice descriptive language:
WIP Intro: Arise
Title: Arise (a Triumvirate of Monterey novel)
Genre: Urban Fantasy
Summary:
Shayne Morgan has had plenty of difficult cases during his time as a Monterey police detective, but the string of killings he's currently investigating might just be the worst. Not only were the deaths unusually gruesome, but every clue seems to lead to a dead end.
Faced with mounting pressure from his superiors to wrap the case up quickly before it can impact the city’s tourism industry, he finds himself reluctantly partnering with the eccentric proprietors of Arcane Investigations, Maya Agrawal and her husband Alexander Drake.
Little does he know, this choice will bring him crashing into a world of magic, monsters, and mayhem.
But Shayne is determined to get justice for the murder victims, and he's not going to let anything deter him from that goal; not trolls or curses or even the unexpected attraction that's steadily growing between himself, Alex, and Maya.
Brief summary of main characters:
Mayawati “Maya” Agrawal: a Gujarati witch who specializes in elemental magic and divination. Owner/operator of Arcane Investigations, a small shop that specializes in the arcane. Married to Alex Drake.
Alexander “Alex” Drake: Maya’s husband, a Greek private investigator/mercenary who works with her at Arcane Investigations. Very handy with bladed weapons.
Shayne Morgan: a detective with the Monterey Police Department. First meets Maya and Alex while investigating a recent string of brutal murders.
Status:
First draft is in progress. Current word count is just above 59k, with a final word count goal upwards of 90k.

HERE WE GO! For the elemental ask meme = Grass: What’s the biggest change you’ve made in your WIP since you started it? --aaaaand-- Spring: Have you ever scrapped (a huge chunk of) a story to start over? Why did the change come about?
Thank you so much for the ask, Kat! I love doing these.
Grass: What's the biggest change you've made in your WIP since you started it?
I don't know that it counts as something that's changed ‘since first starting the WIP’ because this change happened very early on, more during the initial concept + brainstorming stage for Arise (and as such no actual writing of the story had started yet) but I think I have to say Maya!
She's always existed as a character, of course, but at the initial concept stage (when I first had the idea for a polyamorous trio in an urban fantasy setting) she had not only no real backstory but also a completely different name.
Changing her name to what it is now (Mayawati Agrawal) and the research that went into that actually helped me greatly when it came to fleshing out both her backstory and who she is as a character (her beliefs, her family, her life experience, etc.).
Spring: have you ever scrapped (a huge chunk of) a story to start over? Why did the change come about?
Oh boy. This is a tough one! I'm sure that the answer to this question is yes, but I can't think of a specific example right now.
Oh! Actually, wait a sec, I can. It's not an active WIP at the moment (I've set it aside for the time being in favor of focusing on Arise, and the Triumvirate of Monterey series in general) but in my drafts there is another urban fantasy story titled Fortitude.
And while the general plot stuff I've got planned has largely stayed the same, I more or less started the whole thing over pretty early into the writing process because I realized that changing the main character’s personal circumstances at the start at the story makes for not only a much better story overall but also results in greater character development and growth.
Essentially, it's gone from being a fairly typical ‘badass heroine solves mystery and beats the bad guy’ to ‘badass heroine has already had a great heroic moment, is still suffering the physical and mental fallout from that, and has to figure out how to move forward’. She still solves a mystery and saves the day, of course, but there's vastly more introspection now.
