I can't believe I spent SO MUCH TIME in my first playthrough swimming after those stupid moonfishes, and now I discover that the tallneck at the isle of spires systematically kills TONS of them as it goes around its path. It's free fish, Aloy ! T_T would that I had known/noticed that sooner T_T

I’m not going to get into any Milgram drama but rip, I’m disappointed in the very catholic view on forgiveness that I’ve been seeing. I just don't think the characters need to be sorry to deserve forgiveness. The whole point of the project is they thought they were justified – they’re not sorry for what drove them to that point. A person does not have to grovel on their knees in remorse in order to be looked on kindly.

(That being said, I do think they all feel bad for what they’ve done! They harbor so much grief for their victims, and it’s clear in all of them if you look. That sorrow isn’t necessarily the belief that what they did was a mistake, though, and that’s okay.)

All I’m saying is, a character who recognizes the harm they did but still holds to their core ideals shouldn’t immediately be dismissed as a monster of a person. Regret and self-punishment are a good sign, sure, but they are not necessary traits of goodness

Ohh, exciting. I like Deino. They're goofy.

Biggest advice I have is get some leather (or other protective material) gloves. Deino bite things to figure out what they ARE, so be prepared to get bit. A lot.

Deino in general are very destructive. They run into things, they bite things, they fuck shit up. Just because. It's in their nature, so don't punish them for it, just be prepared to avoid actual damage or to fix whatever they break. They'll hurt themselves. They'll hurt other Pokémon. They'll probably end up dragging in things that you have no idea what they were once.

They also have a high metabolism, so they eat a lot. Think of me. There will be piles of half-eaten food everywhere. They'll start eating and get distracted. And then leave. And then come back and act like you never fed them in the first place. And probably bite you for it.

All that being said, they're very sweet, if you know what to look for. The constant biting and chewing on you is affection, a lot of the time. A scared Deino won't do that. They will bite hard once and then run away.

There's a reason Deino are usually considered very not beginner friendly, because they are high-maintenance. BUT. I know you, kid. I think you'll be just right for one.

Next time someone uses the word "speciesist" to describe the consumption of animal matter or says you can't be an anarchist if you're not vegan because "humans > animals is a hierarchy" I'm going to look them in the eye and say "Why are animals higher in the hierarchy than plants? Why are you kingdomist?" And it's not going to be ironically at all.

#also I can't fucking stand ''vegans'' who think eating animals is morally wrong except it's fine if it's fish. that doesn't count obviously #anyways to me eating other animals is about the LACK of a hierarchy. NOT eating them would be ''humans > animals''#because you are refusing to take part in the cycle of nature and what your body & brain were designed to do for the belief that #you are inherently above nature & other animals and can choose to opt out of it all #not even regarding the fact that I'm not human‚ I'm a carnivorous bird of prey and I eat meat to feel in tune with my species #maybe I could survive biologically on fucking celery and lima beans but not psychologically #my point here is though. that plants are living creatures. when you eat a plant you are still killing a living thing.#I'm sorry but unless you are a photosynthesizer or other kind of autotroph you're going to have to accept that you kill to eat #and if it's about the unethical farming to you look up sometime what we're doing to our topsoil with monocultures #at least that's if the terrible labor practices and exploitation of PEOPLE don't make an impact on your empathy

for all his misery and mopey nature i do think he likes and prefers being roadhog and wouldnt go back for anything. i think "feeling like mako" means feeling small and ashamed and weak in his mind and he hates it.

#i think one of the biggest reasons he gets genuinely mad at fish is when they do something #they look at him in that way or they say something or they just. be pathetic and sick. in a way that makes that little guilt and shame gnaw #at his heart again. that shitty feeling when you know you hurt somebody you care about. or when they look at him like theyre disgusted or #disappointed by what they see. i think it pisses him off to no end that they can make him feel so small and i think its one of the things #that makes him genuinely think that maybe he should just kill them and be done with it. its not like itd be hard #🐟#like. part of them learning how to exist around each other long term is that he has to break that thought pattern yk #seeing them be all sickly and instead of pity->guilt->shame->anger it shifts to pity->guilt->'do something about it'#where instead of getting on the whole 'i ruined the life of the only person who ever gave a fuck about me' train he just. tries to be nice #or as nice as he can manage. comforting and affectionate in his very clumsy and uncomfortable way. still not pretending to be a good person #and barely concealing that doing this makes him feel awful. but still like. just doing it anyways and eventually he just does it without #thinking about it. well most of the time i think he still gets stuck fairly often. its a process yk how it is #ftr i think fish resents this. they hate his pity they resent the idea that any of this is His Fault. fish voice i can fuck up on my own #and they especially resent when he is obviously going out of his way to be gentle with them or sweet to them. first of all because they hat #when he treats them like theyre fragile it makes them want to kill him but more importantly because they would really just prefer he be an #awful bastard forever so they can stay mad at him forever. its hard to keep a grudge when he feels bad about it and its hard to be so mad #when hes the only thing that really makes them feel better.

Simple lifeform facts I take for granted that I've now seen blowing people's minds on here:

That sea urchins walk around and have mouths with teeth on their undersides

That corals are related to jellyfish

Barnacles being related to crabs and shrimp

Ants being an offshoot of wasps

Termites being totally unrelated to ants and all similarities just being convergent evolution (they're actually a group of cockroaches, but even science didn't know that part until a few years ago)

Starfish having an eye at the end of each arm

That the bodies of ticks and mites are also their heads, essentially big heads with legs (they even frequently have eyes way up on "the body")

Sperm whales have no upper teeth, and also their bodies are flat from the front

Goats also having no upper (front) teeth

Tapeworms having no mouth at all and just absorbing nutrients over their entire body surface

That flies are bigger pollinators than bees

That moths are bigger pollinators than bees

That wasps are just as important pollinators as bees (more important to many groups of plants) and when we say they're "less efficient" at it we just mean individually they get a little less pollen stuck to them.

That honeybees are nonnative to most of the world and not good for the local ecosystem, just good for human agriculture

That earthworms are also nonnative and destructive to more habitats than the reverse

There being no hard biological line between slugs and snails; all slugs aren't necessarily related to each other and there are gastropod groups where some have shells and some don't

That ALL octopuses (not just the blue ring) have a venomous bite

Most jellyfish and sea anemones being predators that eat fish

"Krill" being shrimp up to a few inches long and not some kind of microbe

Leeches not having a circular ring of teeth anywhere

That algae is not a type of plant

That most seaweed is just very big algae

That enough wood ends up in the ocean that plenty of sea life evolved to eat only wood

Speaking of which the fact that the "ship worms" that make tunnels in wood are just long noodly clams

Butterflies technically just being a small weird group of moths we gave a different name to

That insects only get wings once they reach maximum size and therefore there can never be a younger smaller bee or fly that's not a larva

Spiders not being any more likely to kill their own mates/young than just a cat or dog might, for most species maybe a lot less often?

"Terrible start! Go on," Cleo says.

"But you seem to be one of the only sane people left right now," Doc continues.

"Even more terrible, although I appreciate your delusion," Cleo says.

"And I have to--you know, if you're going to make fun of me for bringing you a problem maybe I just won't. I can solve it myself. I basically solved the moon thing myself," Doc says. "I am trying to be responsible before this turns into a whole thing."

"Doc, you came to me. Did you want anything that wasn't me making fun of you? Because you know, if so, I really feel bad for you. I already feel bad enough for you that you think you actually managed to do anything at all about the moon thing."

Doc throws his hands up. "I am trying to warn you the ocean is evil! It's important! This is important!"

"The deep sea being evil isn't new," Cleo starts, "I was building Atlantis last season--"

"It sent, sent, salmon people to kill me!"

Cleo stops. They look Doc in the eyes. They search for any signs of deception at all. It's a little hard to tell, on account of Doc only having one eye even capable of expressiveness, and his face being the opposite of human, but...

"What?" Cleo says dumbly.

"It was like, like, Beef and Skizz, they were crazy! They were talking about a giant fish and how I shouldn't defy it. And I was like, what is a Big Salmon? I don't know, man, but they're ocean mobsters. And then I started looking. It's not just them. It's not just them Cleo, it's everyone. The ocean, man, it's evil, it's getting everyone. I've, I've made a list. Grian. Have you looked at Grian lately?"

"I think if we were worried about every time Grian got possessed then we wouldn't have any free time," Cleo says hesitantly.

"Right, right, but it was supposed to be Demise. The killing each other, all of the killing each other. I thought, oh, that'll get it out of their systems. But it's not just him Cleo! It's--have you seen Gem? She's all, oh, I will build a boat. Oh, I'll provoke the creatures of the deep. And then. Do you know what I saw all of Team ZITS doing? Fishing!"

"Doc," Cleo says, increasingly concerned for him. He looks... disheveled.

"And not just fishing, oh no. They were standing in the water fishing! And Pearl! Have I mentioned that Pearl is dressing up as a salmon? I mentioned that, yes? The salmon Pearl?"

"You hadn't, unless that was the big fish thing," Cleo says.

"No, that was something different, I think Pearl is maybe a different salmon."

"Sure, okay, more than one salmon, that makes sense," Cleo says dryly.

"And everyone, they are fishing each other around the ocean, yes? Etho is in the ocean! XB is in the ocean! I think I saw Joe crawl out of the ocean earlier, he was all wet and haunted! Surely that is a sign the ocean is evil."

"No, he's just like that," Cleo says. "Also, I did the fishing rod thing too. I think it's just... normal fun."

"They're getting you too. My assessment that you're the sane one. I've said too much."

"I think you need sleep," Cleo says. "Doc, there isn't an ocean-based conspiracy. It's the start of the season. You know we're just like this."

"That's the thing, I can't sleep," Doc says. "I can't. I sleep and I see it. I see it, lurking beneath the waves. It's calling for me Cleo. It's calling. And when it calls, it seems so--kind. But then. But then! I wake up, and I remember the shape of it, and..."

Doc shudders and stops talking. Cleo looks at him a moment longer and then, like comforting a nervous animal, takes his shoulder.

"You should take a nap. It's the start of the season. You're over-stressing yourself. Too much too fast?" they say, as soothingly as possible.

"It's coming for us," Doc says. "It's coming. I don't want to ignore it this time, yes? What's coming for us. We should--we should--"

"Even if it is, Doc, I don't think we can fight the ocean. Come on. Maybe sleeping in my base will help reset your brain."

Doc shudders, but lets Cleo guide him inside. They watch until at last he falls asleep fitfully before shaking their head and sighing.

"A giant fish that was trying to kill him. Honestly. I don't know where he gets these things from. Always a conspiracy with him..."

They decide to go to Ren. Ren knows how to humor Doc. Surely they can get in their ridiculous games again, and Doc will forget all about this. Doc would enjoy the Ministry of Ministries. Maybe he can be an anarchist or something. That would be good for him.

Doc cries out in his sleep. Cleo turns to him.

Then again, they have this strange sinking feeling in their stomach. Doc's... awfully worked up.

But it's Doc.

Surely it's nothing.
