Loki as the assassin poisoner prince who does the evil "feminine" type of murder would fix a lot of ambiguity in the Thor movies. They would both be murderers, but one would do so legally and "honorably" and the other "dishonorably" while doing Odin's dirty work under the table.
1. Why do they prefer the prince that nearly started a war over name-calling when they have no evidence of the other's involvement in plots against Asgard? Because Thor is the one that does things in the Odin-honoring way, to their knowledge!
2. Why do they trust an enemy king more than one of the princes? Because the prince is dishonorable and kills in the evil gay way and thus ranks even lower in their eyes.
3. Why is one prince so distrusted and challenged despite his position? Sif was ready to attack him as he sat in the throne. People gloss over that. It wasn't just "Loki got mad they looked at him wrong." Because they can't have someone like that corrupting the throne, so they can revile him.
4. It adds some extra fucked up context to Loki being so proud of his attempt to annihilate Jotunheim via means that don't involve Asgardian troops. He proudly proclaims it to Odin. I think this hints he has done stuff like this before but on a smaller scale at Odin's behest. How many political enemies has Loki assassinated?
5. It speaks to Loki's self-sacrificial nature in a very sinister and villainous way. Loki is being self-sacrificial but for evil! Loki is willing to be the scapegoat for the realm! Willing to stain his hands and reputation for the sake of Asgard, even if he is reviled in turn. Odin and Thor can remain being honorable as long as Loki does the dirty work. When Loki learns that it's not what Odin wanted. That he failed to be of use, he attempts suicide.

LOKI SPOILERS!!!
Tumblr media
SO ITS A TREE RIGHT???
For those of you who aren’t familiar with Norse Mythology, there is a tree called Yggdrasil. Now I’m not super familiar with it but it’s generally known as the Tree of Life that houses all the nine realms and every living soul, and is incredibly closely associated with Odin. THIS. IS DRIVING ME CRAZY.
I’m not very knowledgeable on this topic so feel free to add or correct me lmao-

Hela was Odin's executioner. Meant to make examples out of any that stood in the empire's way. Meant to strike fear and bring realms to a heel. Meant to crush defiance.
Loki was Odin's assassin. Meant to remain unseen and unheard. Requires traits deemed disreputable in Asgard. Getting his hands dirty to polish Asgard's gilded veneer through "necessary evils".
Thor was Odin's champion. Reframing Asgard's crimes as glory. Reframing Asgard's imperialism as necessary. Thor embodies Asgard's ideals and as its champion is walking propaganda.

AU where Odin never got secretly deposed by Loki in disguise and goes wild in his grief and puts on the Loki play and stuff anyways and Loki finally makes it back to Asgard after years in secret alive-ness only to find a giant statue of himself and his father crying while watching a version of his life story and feels like seventy different kinds of what the actual f-

Iirc, the original script made it more obvious that Odin wanted Loki to let go. I had not noticed the slipping before... thought they had made it more of "Loki lets go due to rejection and breakdown."

A reminder that Loki kept slipping the entire time, Odin just waited for him to let go. Also, do you know how sharp crystal shards are?

It's funny how Loki left Odin in a nursing home. Partly he didn't want to take care of him and he put a spell on him so he wouldn't run away, but on the other hand he knew how to find a place where they would take care of his elderly father. Loki, despite being a villain, is quite considerate towards other people.

Thor, walking into the room: I AM THOR, SON OF ODIN-
Tony: You only went to the bathroom, you don’t have to say it every time.
Thor: I AM THOR, SON OF ODIN. I HAVE BROKEN THE THING YOU CALL A TOILET!
Tony: You could’ve started with that!

I am not a 'fan of the mcu', I'm a fan of the version of the mcu that I carefully crafted in my brain while lying awake at night wondering what the mcu would've been like if the writers gave a shit. Common misconception

I don't think he'd go like "I want to adopt one day", but I see adoption as the only way MCU!Loki would willingly have children post-T1 (and the cycle of dysfunctional adoptive parents goes on!!! Which would have been interesting... and he teased at it in T:TDW when calling Odin out...). The fact that he used it to call Odin out implies he is wary about motives behind adoption. Though if he found an abandoned child, I think it's possible he'd legitimately grow to care for them.
He discovered recently he's from an enemy realm of a species he viewed as monstrous, and I think it left him with a fucked up relationship to his body. So to have him willingly have children, he'd have to work through a lot of his issues first and it's therefore more unlikely than adoption.
But the myths! This is strictly about MCU!Loki, and it also refers to post-T1 events.
What do you think are Loki’s own thoughts/opinions on adoption?

I know it's not in the movie, only in the script, but I think about this a lot (And if people get to act like Throg is MCU cannon bc I just saw that and it annoyed me, I can indulge in this vibe-based post). It positions Loki as a royal advisor rather than a prince. It's just so weird to have the spare as a royal advisor (with all the risks of fratricide), and it suggests Loki was treated very differently than Thor. A post I re-blogged made me think about this again. And the W4 expect and depend on Loki to talk Thor out of things while also perceiving him as distrustful for that same dependence and proximity to Thor. Not to mention the disbelief everyone seems to have over Loki getting the throne when Thor's away ( Sif was about to attack him but was held back from doing so; got away scot-free; and like that's FAR from the equivalent of "flogged for looking at Loki the wrong way"). He's never publicly announced (which makes his claim shakier and opens him up to suspicion), and that Frigga acts like Loki will just hand over the throne to Thor when he comes back.

Literally none of the Infinity Saga would have happened if Odin was less of a dick 🤷🏻‍♀️
Tumblr media
Hear me out:
Odin spent literal centuries (unintentionally?) pitting his sons against each other. Despite his insistence that he kept the secret of Loki's parentage because he didn't want him to feel different from Thor, he clearly and repeatedly showed favor to him. (A habit that carried over from Hela, apparently. What does Odin have against black hair and an affinity for green?)
At every opportunity, he reminded Loki that despite the fact that he's a prince, and has a much stronger grasp on the significance and fragility of leadership than Thor, he would never be the one to ascend to the throne.
And truly, he was okay with that. "I never wanted the throne. I only ever wanted to be your equal." But he couldn't ever be Thor's equal because he was a Frost Giant. It didn't matter that no one beyond Odin and Frigga knew that. Just like he had done with Hela, Loki was a means to an end in his mind. A way to bridge the gap between Asgard and Jotunheim. "Another stolen relic."
If Loki had truly been accepted by Odin, the events of Thor would never have happened. Without the events of Thor, Loki isn't manipulated by Thanos to attack New York. No attack on New York? Suddenly there's no Mind Stone that Hydra can use to power up Wanda and Pietro. No powered up Maximoffs? Poof, no Civil War.
I could keep going forever, but tldr; everything is Odin's fault. Thank you for coming to my TED talk.
