Understanding Antidepressant Discontinuation Symptoms: New Insights from Recent Studies
I wanted to share some important insights from a recent review published in The Lancet Psychiatry about discontinuation symptoms from antidepressants. It's something that affects many, and this study sheds new light on the issue.
The review analyzed data from 79 trials, involving over 20,000 patients, to understand the true impact of stopping antidepressants. Here are some key takeaways:
Lower Incidence than Previously Thought:
Only one out of every six or seven patients experiences symptoms when stopping antidepressants, which is fewer than previous estimates of 56%.
Severe symptoms affect one in 35 patients.
Common Symptoms:
Dizziness, headache, nausea, and insomnia are among the unpleasant symptoms reported.
Symptoms are more common with certain antidepressants, like venlafaxine, which had the second highest risk.
Placebo Effect:
Interestingly, 17% of people experienced symptoms after stopping a placebo, highlighting the psychological component.
Guidelines for Stopping Antidepressants:
It's crucial to reduce the dose gradually under medical supervision to prevent withdrawal symptoms.
Most people can stop antidepressants successfully with proper guidance.
Professional Advice:
Always consult with a healthcare provider before stopping medication. Proper medical supervision can prevent or minimize withdrawal symptoms and help distinguish between withdrawal and a relapse of depression.
Contextual Factors:
Over eight million people in England are on antidepressants, treating various conditions like depression, anxiety, and OCD. The study's findings are important for understanding the broader context of antidepressant use and discontinuation.
This study, led by researchers from the Universities of Berlin and Cologne, provides a more reassuring perspective on the prevalence of antidepressant discontinuation symptoms. It emphasizes the importance of medical guidance and the psychological aspects that can influence our experience when stopping medication.
For anyone considering stopping their antidepressants, remember to have an open conversation with your doctor about the best way to proceed. Your mental health is paramount, and with the right support, the process can be much smoother.
Take care and stay informed! 🌻✨

Not quite sure if this is the right platform to reach out for help. But i really really really need some advice.. ever since around 1 week now i suffer from a one sided tinnitus on my left ear. There were no triggers i just simply woke up with this constant ringing in my ear and it hasnt stopped ever since. I hear it constantly no matter if its day time or night time. I have this discomfort on my ear as well. Feels like its slightly plugged. I know there is no medication against tinnitus. I know that in bad cases you can try therapy to help coping with it if it stays a chronic issue. Additionaly my issue is that i also suffer from a panick and anxiety disorder. For the last 4 days i have been crying non stop and having constant panick attacks because of this stupid ringing. I feel so helpless so lost... at this point its hard for me to imagine dealing with this my whole life long ( i sure hope to god it will dissapear on its own).. did anyone of you ever had the experience with Tinnitus? If so did it dissapear on its own..do you still have this issue?. How do you manage to cope with it.?. I guess im just so desperate for answers...
Sending love to those who are going through the same 💜💙

8 Signs You Have a Serious Cold and What to Do About It
Feeling under the weather? It might be more than just a regular cold. Here are eight signs that your cold could be serious and what to do about it:
High Fever: If your body temperature is elevated, rest and hydrate. Seek medical attention if it gets too high or if you’re feeling extremely ill.
Severe Body Aches: Persistent muscle pain can be a sign of a serious infection. Over-the-counter pain relievers and rest can help, but consult your doctor if pain persists.
Persistent Cough: A severe or long-lasting cough, especially with other symptoms like fever or chest pain, may require medical evaluation.
Shortness of Breath: Difficulty breathing or wheezing can be alarming. If accompanied by chest pain, seek immediate medical care.
Chest Pain: Pain in the chest could indicate a more severe issue like pneumonia. Consult a doctor if the pain is persistent or worsening.
Sore Throat: Persistent throat pain that doesn’t improve may need medical attention, especially if accompanied by other symptoms.
Congestion: Severe nasal congestion might require decongestants or other treatments. Consult your doctor for the best course of action.
Runny Nose: A runny nose is common but if it persists beyond a week or comes with other symptoms, it’s worth checking with a healthcare provider.
