I had an entire dress due today for my garment design class so I don’t have any new art (YET, I have some meme posts to ink) but I found some old season 4 miraculous ladybug art that I never posted due to some tumblr posting issues at the time, and I think they’re pretty funny. “Father, you have not left the zoom call” cracks me up especially. A friend and I have a joke that carrying your friend around via video chat so they can see what you’re experiencing is “Gabriel Agresting”.

Gabriel does not like whats changing
The more we kept getting references to feathers and rings being close to Adrien and those in his family, who knew of the peacock miraculous, the more it became obvious that he was a sentimonster brought to life with the help of the peacock miraculous.
(Moments from "Miraculer" and "Gorizilla" subtly showing two rings and feathers being constantly close to the Agreste family and Nathalie)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And per the power of the peacock miraculous, Adrien's amok was attached to something, specifically two rings, the very ones his parents wore, a terrifying thing to learn because it meant that anyone who was in possession of Gabriel and Emelie's rings, could gain full control of Adrien and make him say and do whatever it is they wanted, which is what Gabriel has been doing a lot, each time worse than the last as he becomes more and more willing to ruin the happiness his son has built on his own.
(In "Adoration, Gabriel attempted to stop a moment that would've solidified Adrien and Marinette's relationship even further, by using one of the rings in his possession to take control of Adrien and stop him from kissing Marinette, forcing him to tell Marinette to leave. )
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
We don't know for how long Gabriel has been controlling Adrien throughout his life, but it doesn't seem like it was always this way, at least not when Adrien upheld his title as the "perfect son" to the Agreste family, but when he did, he would almost always start his command with the same words, "Adrien, I am your father...". Gabriel had his little moments in the past where he showed just how much he cherished his son, how worried he was over Adrien's safety if he was ever too close to danger, but the longer he let his obsession over defeating the heroes consume him, the more he lost sight of his moral boundaries, seeing no wrong in controlling Adrien through the ring during times he believed Adrien was showing defiance or was just plain not being the seemingly perfect well mannered son who took his parents word.
("Megaleech" was one of many times when Gabriel had been shown clearly reaching for his ring to take control of Adrien. )
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(In "Protection," Gabriel aimed to end the relationship between Marinette and Adrien, at first by trying to convince Adrien he shouldn't settle for dating Marinette, believing his own son deserved to be with someone who was considered to be as perfect as he was, like Kagami. When Adrien rejected Gabriel's advice to break up with Marinette, Gabriel used the ring to command Adrien to stop seeing Marinette, an order that was later removed, thanks to Nathalie, who was in possession of Emelie's ring.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Unlike in previous seasons, Gabriel is shown to be more willing to use his ring to take control of Adrien during the most important moments of his life, because unlike before, too many things were changing.
Gabriel has always had this picture perfect image in his mind over what his family will be like once Emelie was brought back, and it for one would be exactly as he remembered and expected it to be. But now, everything Gabriel was hoping for his family and their future, is all gradually crashing down, and while he for one wants to believe it is the fault of Ladybug for preventing him from obtaining the miraculous that will restore his family, he also wants to believe it is the "bad influence" of Marinette, and others whom he views as imperfect, that's corrupting Adrien and ruining the perfect future that was made for him, but its not. Things are changing, because the people who are the closest to him are changing. Adrien is changing.
The fact of the matter is, the Agreste family could never go back to the way Gabriel remembered. Emelie had been gone for more than a year now, and while he still clings to the past, Adrien has tried the best he can to move on with his life, by learning to live it.
Adrien has made efforts to learn to live his life by gaining new experiences, meeting new people, building new friendships, forming his own independence by developing his own views and opinions, and has made his share of mistakes while simultaneously learning from them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Adrien will always keep his mother's memory in his heart just like Gabriel said he should back in "Felix", but now that Gabriel is watching Adrien step farther and farther away from the son he remembers spent his days in the mansion, close to him and Emelie, it upsets him.
Gabriel has said before in "Passion" that everything he is doing is for Adrien's happiness, but his idea of what Adrien's happiness should be, does not align with what is making Adrien happy now. Adrien was most certainly not meant to find happiness without his mother in his life, he wasn't supposed to question his fathers judgment over what was truly right and wrong, and he was definitely not meant to find true love in a baker girl like Marinette. Gabriel has talked to Adrien about everything in his life that is falling a stray from the path that he believed was best for him, or rather, set for him, but for the majority of those times, Adrien chose to politely disagree with his father and stood up for what he wanted in life.
Adrien didn't want to start a relationship with Kagami again out of his fathers insistence, because they both realized on their own that they were not meant to be. Adrien didn't want to cast Marinette aside because having her in his life gave him that sense of love and happiness he never thought he could have. Marinette wasn't Gabriel's idea of perfect, but Adrien knew she was perfect for him. Gabriel and Adrien's relationship has always been a distant one, and although it was obvious to everyone else that their relationship was strained, Gabriel remained blind to the unhappiness Adrien was constantly facing over his lack of understanding and attention.
In season 5, after Gabriel realized he was dying from the power of Cat Noir's cataclysm, for a few brief moments, he became the understanding father Adrien always hoped for, and even though he never intended it, it was his willingness to allow Adrien the freedom to experience time away from the mansion, with friends, that gave him the chance to properly spend time with Marinette and start a relationship with her.
Gabriel had an agreement with Tomoe to wed Adrien to Kagami, and he made a promise to Emelie that he would bring her back and restore their family, restore their happiness, but that can’t happen if Adrien is making decisions that go against it all. Rather than accept that his son was living his own life, away from the one he wants to think is best for Adrien, he instead found it easier to use the ring that Adrien was bound to, and order him to do as his father told him.
Gabriel has had the advantage of taking control of Adrien at any given point in time, but the one time Gabriel realized he couldn't, was back in "Risk," when Felix took Adrien's place without him knowing. Felix, disguised as Adrien, talked back for Adrien about not wanting to go on the modeling trip, a trip that would last months. Gabriel had angrily disapproved of Adrien's(Felix) defiance and did not hesitate to reach for the ring that would allow him to put a stop to it, but for the first time in likely his entire life, Gabriel had to face Adrien without that sense of control over him conveniently within reach, and it must have been terrifying, because what he saw in Adrien's(Felix) eyes, was something he never thought he would have to actually experience facing alone, but is now forced to face regardless of possessing a means to control him, and that something, was Adrien's free will.

I saw an older post about when Gabriel tried to akumatize Felix in s4 using the twin ring he stole: (picture bc why not)
Tumblr media
The post was made when a big consensus was that one of the twin rings was Felix’s amok, and therefore put his life at risk choosing that as the akuma object, something he later did with Kagami in s5:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But with s5, we learned that Felix’s amok isn’t the twin ring, but that other ring he always wears. However- the twin rings (both) are Adrien’s amok, meaning Gabriel put his own son at risk by trying to akumatize him with it. (A conclusion many have already come to and have pointed out)
…or did he?
Because I’m kind of wondering how much danger Adrien would’ve been in if the akuma actually took, and subsequently be broken by the heroes. I don’t really think that Adrien’s feather would come out if that ring broke- there’s still the other ring. We saw in Crocoduel how about akuma object can be split and can only be released if put together again first, so why not for Amoks? If one of the rings broke, a feather probably wouldn’t even come out.
But that doesn’t necessarily mean Adrien would’ve been completely fine.
In Felix’s backstory, this happened:
Tumblr media
His ring cracked (not broke), and he collapsed (passed out) instead of vanishing.
Tumblr media
Since Adrien’s is a different format, being two rings, I can’t say I’m completely positive, but I think it wouldn’t be unreasonable to think that if only one of his rings broke, that he might collapse/pass out like Felix did when his amok was damaged.
So if one of the rings broke (but not the other), then maybe it would be the same as a single piece amok cracking, since it wasn’t completely broken, only partially.
If this is how it works, then if an akumatized Felix loses, and the ring breaks, the magic ladybugs would fix the ring and there’d be no lasting consequences to Adrien (minus the fact that it would cause him to collapse as Chat Noir, thus revealing his identity to Gabriel, but that’s a different concern lol). There’s also the fact that Felix’s ring is very much not cracked anymore (and I guess wasn’t when he finally got it off his father), it’s possible that it self heals somehow (seriously, I’d love to know how the cracks got fixed).
To conclude: Gabriel still put his son at risk by picking the twin ring as the akuma, but probably didn’t think there was any major concern of actually killing Adrien.
(Though I guess I could be wrong about no feather coming out if just one broke because multiple feathers did need to get purified in Megaleech, but that was because of the object being multiplied, not an object with multiple parts, so I’m gonna assume for now that it’s just one feather total for the two rings.)

Tbh now im imagining Tomoe and Gabe in their younger days putting money into Project Oxygen because they genuinely tought Andre was just joking and then being like "oh my FUCKING GOD" when Megaleech happened
iufgeqwuiudaskj
HONESTLY THOUGH
Just a combination of 'I'm sure he's joking' and 'this sounds funny but I'm /sure/ he has a genuine good plan that addresses all the flaws we're seeing?'.
Nope.

I still really don't see how both rings can be his Amok. It's always been one Amok per sentimonster.
And no, they don't slot together. Rings don't do that. We'd see a sliver and a slot if that was the case.
Well... not exactly, actually. Think about Megaleech, where the sentimonster was able to duplicate its own amok, and you had to get rid of all of the copies in order to get rid of it. And then with akumas, we've had one object be broken into two, and have to be put back together in order to release the akuma, with Crocoduel. I think that if they put the rings close together, the feather might count it as one single object. It's not like the rules for this kind of thing have ever been super picky anyway.

What if Chloe...?
What if she's just copying Audrey's behavior (the one parent who had control over everything that went on when she was a kid) and-being a kid- copied everything she saw and sadly had no proper parental guidance to show her that that's wrong?
What if she just to be "worthy" of being a Bourgois?
What if Marinette was just a lab rat for her to test her bullying techniques
What if, due to Audrey's great example of mothering, respect is only gained by providing services and having worth, thus, when ladybug stopped giving her a miraculous she saw that she doesn't deserve respect and turned on her for someone who is respectable and continuously provided her services (like hawkmoth maybe) ?
What if the only notable things her dad did on his own, without orders from Audrey, were: 1- Blackmailing any possible competitors during his elections (like in DarkBlade)
and 2- launching horrible campaigns that don't benefit anyone but himself (like in MegaLeech)?
What if the reason she doesn't except any advice from anyone is because the only one whom she ever felt related to her and she trusted was Adrien but now that he no longer agrees with her and relates to her the only thing to do is to get this from someone else who does(Lila maybe)?
And now that she's leaving Paris and can no longer can demonstrate to her mom that she is "worthy" of Bourgois, she finally cries?
What if...?

What do you think about miraculous unification? (Sorry for bothering you again)
I'm kinda meh on it
I like the idea of being able to unify them, mainly because using the word "unify" means your turning two or more Miraculous into one.
But that's not really what they do. It just means wearing multiple Miraculous and can use both powers. So it kinda defeats the point of having so many temp heroes if you can just unify the Ladybug or Black Cat with whatever is needed.
Chat Noir could have used the Tiger in Crocoduel, Ladybug could have used the Pig in Guiltrip and also the Mouse in MegaLeech. Etc etc
The only reason temp heroes are needed is if a plan requires more than 2 people, and even then they'd be better off just using the Mouse to make two Ladybugs.
I'd rather they used unification to ACTUALLY unify powers. Like you can't just use both powers individually, they're gonna be mixed together. And thus justifying more heroes.
Random example: (My version of the Snake has Future Vision instead of Second Chance). If you unify the Snake and the Ladybug, you create a power called "Simulation". You can create a simulation of a potential future so you can practice figuring out a solution to a problem/fight without actually harming yourself.
Either do that, or just make wearing multiple Miraculous at once impossible, excluding the Cat and Ladybug.
I also liked the idea of "wearing too many Miraculous makes you loose your mind", but in practice it's bs. Marinette can wear all but three Miraculous and just be a little light headed. Sure they're not all activated, but it just kills any tension this could have had. I think they just added it as a throwaway line to justify temp heroes, but both Marinette and Adrien have worn multiple Miraculous comfortably for extended periods of time.
So I'm going with a thing called "Unification Fatigue", where the more you use a unified power the more damage you do to yourself both physically and mentally.
Hope that answers your question!

My God. I thought the last season was stressful. The episodes are all airing out of order, the love triangle is an absolute wreck and don't even get me started on the new rings. GABRIEL LITERALLY COULD HAVE SAVED HIS WIFE AND SAVED NATALIE. But he didn't. His obsession with Ladybug is awful and is really messing him up. I feel so awful for Adrien.

i think, along with my luka scale, i should do a wayhem scale bc he’s appearing MUCH more than i anticipated this season
considering he was Only in megaleech in season four and i don’t have exact numbers, but i know i’ve seen him more often than luka in this season.

With some tweaks on the episode, Queen banana might have been a decent episode to introduce Ivan with the ox miraculous
Honestly I think that one could've been shifted to be the Mylene-focused episode and then freed Megaleech up to let someone else have the spotlight.
Like. Queen Banana is /basically/ a repeat of Horrificator. Why not focus on Mylene, who is already established as the classmate wanting to be an actor? Zoé barely factors into the episode at all.
