This book was beautifully written! A dark and twisty narrative with flowing descriptions, this book captured my attention right from page one. The sinister atmosphere was beautifully woven into the story, and I loved it. Following the connected stories of Ivy and her mother Dana, this novel tells the story of magic; sometimes gifted, sometimes earned, sometimes stolen, and the consequences that come with it. I loved the exploration into several of the characters use of the magic, and the way it changed their perspectives. I very much enjoyed the discussion around family and relationships that this book held. It’s always fascinating to look into the lives of characters, and the way the book tied together the magic and the relationship between mother and daughter was undeniable. Mon avis :

Ce livre m'avait pas mal intriguée suite à ses retours assez mitigés. Mais au final, je l'ai beaucoup aimé. J'ai eu du mal au départ à m'attacher à Alice, qui peut paraitre froide et colérique, mais l'origine de cette attitude est expliquée au fil de l'histoire et tout prend un sens nouveau. Et quel sens !

Autre fait qui m'a complètement immergée dans cet univers : les "Contes de l'Hinterland". Ces contes de fées, loin d'être féeriques, bien au contraire, m'ont intriguée tout au long du récit. Intimement liés à Alice et à sa famille, ces contes ne sont pas tous dévoilés dans ce roman, ce qui peut être un peu frustrant... Mais, en faisant quelques recherches, j'ai découvert qu'ils existent ! En espérant qu'ils soient traduits en français bientôt, peut-être seront-ils un bon prétexte pour lire en VO, qui sait ?

En conclusion :

"Hazel Wood", c'est un conte de fées sombre avec une héroïne tourmentée, qui, entre mythe et réalité, devra lever le voile sur son passé. Un page turner à dévorer !

Book review- 3.5 stars 3.5 Stars SO..HERE IS MY DILEMMA. This is the second book in the series.....and I still don't care about the main characters, Alice or Finch. I kind of wanted them to be more than okay to me at this point. but I liked the story in and of itself. The author has a great skill in writing or reworking a dark fairy tale. I can say that I seriously enjoyed that even more than i did in the first book. However, since i feel like now i should be somewhat more invested in the characters..at least by the end..and i wasn't.. no matter how much I liked the story itself i'll keep it at a 3.5. Also I feel like the first one read and ended as a stand alone so i didn't know where this would go. Not a bad thing. You guysssss!!!! I slept until 9:30 this morning and omg did it feel FANTASTIC!!!
