5 Movies You Should Watch
thanks @tadpole-apocalypse for tagging me, my friend that loves deep cut cinema and films in general, because it definitely wasn't a trap laid for me, who has shit taste in movies.
which you know. ass.
But whatever, I'll own it. Here are 5 movies I like that I think you should watch. Don't make fun of me. Or I'll cry.
Might as well get it out of the way. My favorite movie.
It's Raul Julia's last performance, and he chews the scenery with wild abandon, which is my most compelling argument to watch it. Everybody's in this damn movie, including Kylie Minogue and Ming Na Wen, but they all take a backseat to Jean Claude Van Damme's utterly baffling line delivery and inexplicable accent. They could have just...not made Guile American for the movie, but they still did.
And I am so glad they did.
If you haven't seen this already just see it. The picture should convince you because well, Sarah Michelle Gellar kissing women (and men) is a win for bisexuals everywhere. But this movie is funny, deeply messed up, and enjoyable every time.
Once again, objectively as a movie, maybe not the best. It's a romance, though, and romances always get a bad wrap. It also is deeply messed up and enjoyable every time. Is it problematic BDSM rep? Sure. But it's still a fun watch.
My favorite teen movie ever, bar none. I'll still watch a teen movie if it's good. This one is. Liv Tyler, Ethan Embry, Robin Tunney (i also fucking adore The Craft), and ofc one cannot forget Debi Mazar. Dumb kids being dumb kids trying to save a record store. Good soundtrack.
Kate Beckinsdale's in a corset and there's vampires. (It was never confirmed that this is the prequel to the Underworld movies but in my head it is.)
ummm, would anyone like to do this? I'll tag @iridescentnuances and also tag @vspin just for peer pressure, and anyone else who would like to do this! IDK who will even see this on a saturday, lol.

this isn't even me being a certified CrozGirl (i'm an hbo* war girl, if anything)- but some of the reactions to croz getting it on with sandra feel very "i can excuse war crimes, but i draw the line at extramarital affairs" tbh

hey hey ! ive been lovingly staring at all ur art ever since i found you n ‘ i wanna say !! i love ur artstyle !! sm !! waaugh !! <33
have a star ⭐️
a question ive been meaning to ask though , i cant really seem to find much information about your lights out au , unfortunately ^^”
may i ask what exactly is the premises ? :O
Tumblr media
so the Lights Out au is essentially: the Welcome Home Puppet Show was shut down prematurely, and without any warning to the puppets. the employees turn off the studio lights when they leave for the last time, completely abandoning the building and the sapient puppets inside. the building is locked and boarded up to ensure that nothing gets out.
the lights turn off halfway through the neighbors' "day", and everyone - except Wally - goes to sleep, assuming the day got away from them & its just time for bed. the lights never come back on, the neighbors don't wake up, and problems start to arise from the lack of light. Wally and Home are left to deal with all of this alone.
(and Eddie is in the water cause... well. he's just in there! fr tho it's just a running joke for the au <3)

Any writing advice that works for you and you feel like sharing? with the understanding that no advice is universal of course
28. Any writing advice that works for you and you feel like sharing?
So I have a ton of stuff in the Pia on Writing tag that goes into a lot of detail but (with the caveat to ignore anything that doesn't work for you):
Learn to love your mistakes, because you must make a lot of them to get good at writing, so if you hold back because you're worried about your writing being bad, your shooting yourself in the foot. Your writing HAS to be bad for it to get better. Or: You need manure/shit (bad writing) to grow a really good garden (good writing). You want a good garden? Start shoveling the shit in, lol.
Clever marketing won't solve not putting the hours in to hone your craft.
In fanfiction, make sure it's fun. That doesn't mean it can't be hard sometimes, that you can't dread editing sometimes or drafting, that you can't have sadder times, but make sure that the overall net is always positive. Otherwise, take a break.
In professional writing, learn how to stop waiting for inspiration to strike, and learn to turn up on that dance floor on your own. Inspiration is a fickle dance partner, it often won't turn up unless you develop the discipline to turn up first.
Sometimes the writing you absolutely slog through that feels stilted and bad is some of your best writing. Just because it feels clunky when you're writing, doesn't mean it reads clunky. Just because it feels smooth when you're writing, doesn't mean it reads smooth. Your emotional state at the time of writing does not determine the quality of writing. Feeling good while you're writing =/= good writing. Likewise feeling bad while writing =/= bad writing.
You do not need a daily habit to be good at writing. Develop one if you want one, but personally I don't have one and I'm super happy that way. Take your weekends, have your leisure time, goddamn it, don't be a terrible boss to yourself.
Writing can be both lonely and exhausting - make some non-douchey writer friends (or artist or creative friends), and make sure you take breaks. Because writing is so cerebral, you'd be surprised how much physical activity can help with recovery, like stretching, gentle walks, workouts, etc.
Eat brain food. Snacking during writing is actually normal. I have nuts on hand for protein boosts, but I'll also eat chocolate or snack on quick energy boosts.
Stay hydrated.
Ignore any writing advice that goes 'you must do this in order to be a writer' or 'you have to do this one thing to be successful.' They're wrong. There is no one-true-path in writing with the exception that you do have to write in order to like...be a writer, imho.
You are going to want to compare yourself to others, but be very aware of who you're comparing yourself to. If you're new, why are you comparing yourself to someone with 10-20 years of experience? If you're disabled and fatigued, why are you comparing yourself to able-bodied writers? Stop competing with people outside of your metaphorical weight class, they're not your competition. I'm not going to tell you not to compare yourself to others, but be very careful of how you compare yourself to others. I've had new writers be like 'I could never do your wordcounts (so I'm not as good of a writer)' and like, no friend, neither could I 10 years ago. This is literally a decade of hard work and practice. Some skills really just come with time. (Also most writers are more successful after writing less words than me so y'know lol).
If you get shitty comments/critiques, remind yourself that if you wouldn't take personal advice from a complete stranger like this (and you wouldn't), then their shitty comments/critiques aren't worth your time either.
On AO3, the delete, block, moderate comments function and mute buttons are all free. USE THEM. Don't bother giving haters airtime on your fics. Elsewhere on the internet, as much as you can, try and ignore review sites. Like seriously.
Learn your writing style. Practice planning, plantsing and pantsing! Practice writing one thing or more than one thing at a time. Practice different genres. You might be surprised at what fits you as a person! Think of it like being a musician, you're not trying to be a band that already exists, you're trying to be your band and you're trying to find your sound.
You're probably very good at noticing your weaknesses, get good at noticing your strengths, and use those to shore up the places where you're still building skills.
Do writing prompts. I cannot stress this enough, but learn how to write settings. Describe the dialogue of a friend. Write a character dossier on a television character. Practice worldbuilding, practice character building.
Fill the well. Read broadly across many genres. Watch many different types of media. Listen to many audiobooks. The best way to not sound derivative of a particular order is to saturate yourself with inspiration from hundreds of different places.
That's probably enough! dklsjfdas

Tagged by @destinyapostasy! The prompt is current top five favorite songs? Thanks for the tag. This one is the kind of stuff I like doing. :)
(links are spotify)
I'm constantly listening to new stuff but this is probably the current top 5 I'm listening to
Raise Hell- Brandi Carlile one of the songs on the playlist for the new story in Vampire Tabletop we're starting soon! Been working on an antagonist (that they will probably adopt again) and this is their song to me.
2) Hooked (Addicted You Might Say)- Eleisha Eagle- momentary favorite in my writing playlist for the chapter of the Modern AU Tavstarion fic I'm finishing tonight (or tomorrow).
3) Ha! Noch einen ganzen Tag- Heinrich Marschner- I've been relistening to the opera Der Vampyr on my working playlist. This is my favorite piece from it. The recitation/aria is the vampyr himself, Lord Ruthven, singing about how awesome his task to kill three virgin brides is. He's gotta do it or he'll die, but he's also very psyched about it.
It's an excellent sexy villain song.
4) Circus- Britney Spears- On the cleaning playlist. If you need to get moving, is there anything better?
5) Living Proof- Des Rocs- Was rereading a personal manuscript and listening to the playlist for it while I percolated in my head if it was worth fixing or not (the plot is very flabby in the first half because the pacing's off due to me wanting to cram in more worldbuilding). I decided it was. This song helped.
now i gotta figure out how to fucking fix the thing!
Um, I think I was just supposed to list five songs, but I'm obsessed with music so I didn't just do that. But @litlunacy @iridescentnuances @vspin if u haven't done this yet, would love to see whatever version of it you'd like to do! (also if you want to be tagged in the future, let me know.

26. and 23. if you haven't been asked yet!
26. What would you describe as OOC?
(OOC - Out of character / IC - In character)
When the character's actions do not logically or plausibly make sense within the context of the information that has been provided for the character so far in a way that isn't likely to be provided for as the story continues.
A character can be fully IC within a fic while being OOC by canon standards, but if the logic of the fic supports that character behaving that way, then to me the character is IC in the world of the fic.
23. Dialogue or description? Why is the other one so hard?
Dialogue!
I don't think description is that hard, lol. I just find dialogue more fun.
I think both can be equally hard but in different ways. Description can be hard because it's easy to overdo or underdo, and even if you hit the sweet spot with some readers, you might really miss the mark with others.
Dialogue can be hard because it takes time to learn how to capture the natural flow of conversation between two people, it can be hard to keep in mind the unique voices of characters (a trap that most beginner writers fall into, is making all their characters sound like different versions of them), etc.
They both have their challenges, but I enjoy dialogue more. :D
