Fuck JK Rowling but it makes me so angry to think we could have had a complete Fantastic Beasts series with an autistic lead who isn’t a total stereotype, who is loveable, who has a love interest instead of just being infantilised…and instead we’re getting a seven season Harry Potter reboot/remake that no one asked for or wanted on HBO Max.
Tumblr media
When I was going through the process of my autism diagnosis, feeling anxious and worried about what being diagnosed would mean, knowing that Newt Scamander - a character who is adored by so many in a major franchise - was being played as autistic helped me tremendously. I saw much of myself in Newt, and it made me feel seen that an autistic person like myself could be the hero, that Newt wasn’t a joke or stereotype. It was so important to me coming to terms with my diagnosis that a character I loved was like me and not limited by being autistic.
I’ve mentioned this before but on the opening day of Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore in the UK, there was a boy on the row in front of me. When Newt came onscreen, he started bouncing and flapping his hands excitedly - like me, he was autistic and saw himself represented on the big screen.
“But Luna Lovegood” - you know what, controversial but fuck your “but Luna Lovegood”. Her actress sided with the TERF, and Luna is NOT confirmed to be autistic, it’s just a popular fan headcanon. Meanwhile Newt Scamander has been confirmed by Eddie Redmayne (not JKR, fuck her) to be on the spectrum. I’m not saying she definitely isn’t because I can definitely see it, and it’s wonderful autistic people can relate, but I’m talking about a character who is intentionally written and portrayed as autistic instead of just fan headcanons.
Tumblr media
What does having a love interest have to do with this? Believe it or not, this isn’t me just being a shipper: too often are autistic people infantilised, as if we can’t love other people or that people are incapable of loving us. But - as anyone following me most likely knows - Newt Scamander has a love interest, Porpentina “Tina” Goldstein, who he’s canonically married to in the future. They even have a grandson who is called Rolf and marries the aforementioned Luna.
In the three films, we only got a few scenes (and then JK Rowling cut Tina out because Katherine Waterston called her out on multiple occasions for being a transphobe) of Newtina but what we got showed that not only is Newt capable of forming a romantic attachment but also Tina clearly loves Newt as he is, quirks and all. She understood his odd compliment of “salamander eyes” because she knows his special interest is magical creatures and it’s his way of saying he adores her eyes. She read his book and genuinely made an effort to learn because she knew magical creatures were important to him, and we saw her grow from thinking he was writing an “extermination guide” to giving him the name for his book, “Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them”. My girl Tina LOVES Newt for who he is and always has, and that’s beautiful.
Tumblr media
Seeing an autistic person not only fall in love - he spends the whole of the 2nd and 3rd films lamenting on how beautiful she is, talking about her and with her picture in his pocket/suitcase - but also being loved for who they are is something so rarely seen and is so important.
I’ll be the first to hold my hands up and say that the second and third Fantastic Beasts movies weren’t the greatest, by the way. I will agree to that. The first one seems like a damn masterpiece in comparison, even with its problems, but I’m still angry.
The fact that JK Rowling’s bigotry has contributed to losing this rare example of autistic representation in a major mainstream franchise is something no one talks about when discussing her actions, and it hurts that no one seems to care about canon autistic representation.

Okay but set during Halfblood Prince! Female pronouns, Ravenclaw reader.
The reader is friends with Rolf, Luna, and Hannah. Rolf and Luna are the couple goals of the friend group. Also the reader is crushing on Neville, who secretly has a crush on her. Hannah is more focused on school than dating. Meanwhile, Seamus can't get a date to save his life and Dean starts dating Ginny. The reader, Dean, and Seamus start a little folk band (yk kinda like that Ed Sheeran song Galway Girl) and she starts dating Seamus because she doesn't think Neville is interested. You decide if it ends in fluff or angst.
Galway Girl (Neville Longbottom x Female Ravenclaw!Reader x Seamus Finnigan)
Okay so this is a really cute request. Honestly, Neville is 100% my comfort character so this is also kinda sad for me. But let's go!
youtube
Listen to the song while you read. You know, for the vibe. Also I left out some details from the song because I didn't know how to fit them in? So I hope that's okay?
Request: Yes/No
Summary: When all the reader's friends seem to be lucky in love, she feels left out. It seems like even Neville has been on dates with Hannah, who doesn't date. The only person in the same boat as her is Seamus. Dean and Seamus convince their Ravenclaw friend that they should start an Irish band. But does it solve or cause problems, when their friends find out about the little band at a Gryffindor party?
Warnings: Angsty but fluffy?, underage drinking, implication of weed, canon ships, emotional cheating, miscommunication, idiots in love, and also implied Irish reader? (a Galway Girl is a girl from Galway which is in Western Ireland)
Tumblr media
It all started about four months ago, Rolf Scamander had asked you advice for a date with a girl he really liked and you gave him advice. You didn't know who Rolf could possibly have a crush on but you were hyper aware of his sudden fascination with your housemate, Luna Lovegood. She was your friend and so was he. The two of them had never been close until they began hanging out four months ago. You hadn't thought much of it until they became your couple goals. They officially started dating after the third date. Everything about their relationship seemed to be like they were always meant to be together. It reminded you of how when you were twelve, you believed in soulmates. But it wasn't long before they realized that their own mutual pining made them blind to the fact that you had a crush on Neville Longbottom for years. They immediately felt bad and made your crush their business. Luna was pretty close with Neville and made sure he spent more time around your small friend group. But you were pretty sure he'd never like you. Hannah Abbott was the only other member of your small friend group and she spent most her time studying. She always said she was much too busy for dating but she also seemed to be rather close with Neville. Actually, the more you thought about it Neville had more friends than you. He was seemingly friends with Harry Potter and his friends. But Neville's closest friends were Dean Thomas and Seamus Finnigan. But then as of recent due to Luna and Rolf's interference, Neville's friends became yours. The friend group went for from four to seven.....eight when Dean started dating Ginny Weasley last month.
You were trying to get the group together for a group for a Hogsmead e trip but everyone had different plans . Ginny and Dean had a date. Rolf and Luna had a date. Hannah and Neville didn't really say what they were doing but both mentioned the greenhouses so you kind of assumed. So it was just you and Seamus. But it wasn't a date, you were just friends. It was obvious by how this forced date-like atmosphere made you both uncomfortable. So you both just went back to the castle and threw yourselves into studying in the library. After the third time of being ditched by your friends for dates, you guys just knew it was easier to go to the library and study. However, Seamus brought up something this particular time he hadn't brought up before. "Do you like Irish folk music?"
"Who's asking? You or Dean?"
"What?"
"Dean's going through a rough patch with Ginny and she likes Irish folk music."
"Right...thanks. Hey, want to start a band? You, Dean, and me?"
"What do I get out of it?" You raised an eyebrow and Seamus shrugged. "The joy of knowing you helped out a friend or two." The only problem with it was you didn't think Ginny genuinely liked Dean. "No. Tell Dean to find someone else." You got up and walked away.
Tumblr media
You'd been dodging Seamus and Dean for days, when they'd finally managed to corner you. You were in the Gryffindor common room looking for Neville. You were ready to finally confront him about his relationship with Hannah. It was irritating enough that you knew Hannah didn't tell you she liked Neville but the least they could do was admit they were together. You could have asked Hannah for the truth but something told you it'd feel more true if you'd heard it from Neville. Maybe you needed closure? However, you didn't find Neville because you ran into his two best friends. "Y/N, I know you think Ginny and I fight a lot." Dean started and you cut in harshly. "You do fight a lot." He took a sharp intake of breath before continuing. "But this isn't just for me. This could be good for all of us. Seamus won't be that Irish kid who can hold his whiskey. We can book gigs and make money. You can finally afford that trip to America you're always talking about." You couldn't help but be a little interested in the idea. "I'll think about it. But you have to make me a promise. Neville can never know I was here today." The two boys looked at each other then back at you before Dean grinned. "We promise, he won't know." You nodded and left the Gryffindor common room.
Tumblr media
It was that weekend, the three of you were in the library whispering amongst yourselves about this band of yours. You were secretly passing around a small flask of fire whiskey under the table and sitting at one of the back tables where not many people would sit. "So are we going with trad tunes, newer stuff, or our own music?" You asked with a bit of curiosity gracing your face and Seamus shrugged. "Why not all three? How about instruments? Y/N, you should sing." You frowned. "I can really wanna play the fiddle but in songs where it's not needed I'll sing." Dean nodded. "I can sing most times then because Seamus can't sing worth shit and honestly I think we'll need like a piano." Seamus rolled his eyes. "We'll need some base so Bodhrán? We'll probably sound like shit but at least we'll be ridiculed as friends." Those were the last words said before you guys spent the rest of the Quidditch season doing band practice instead of supporting your Quidditch teams.
You were ecstatic when you heard Gryffindor got the Quidditch Cup but extremely disappointed. They'd beat your team. You quietly walked over to your table in mock shame while the Gryffindors celebrated. You walked over to Neville after the feast and asked if you were invited to the party to celebrate Gryffindor's win. He informed you that he'd thought Seamus or Dean would have invited you since you seemed to be with them a lot lately. There seemed to be a hint of anger in his voice. And you couldn't hold back the vile feeling that built up inside you. "Well excuse me for wanting to actually hang out with my friends. You and Hannah seem to always be at the greenhouse. Luna and Rolf are always together. Dean and Ginny.... they're on a break. And Seamus...well he and I are in the same boat." You quickly walked away catching up with Dean and Seamus. It seemed like your body relaxed almost instantly as you started laughing with them about some inside joke Neville couldn't understand. "She doesn't mean it, you know." He recognized the voice but turned to look anyways. "Yes, she does. She's right. You and I are always together lately. I didn't think about how that must look to our friends until..."
"The girl you like said it?"
"Yeah."
"Back in third year, she said you were her type."
"Do you think I still am?" Hannah shrugged in response to the question. They quietly walked to the Gryffindor common room where the celebration for winning Quidditch Cup was being thrown.
When they got to the common room, Neville saw you chatting with Dean, Seamus, and Ginny. From the looks of it Dean and Ginny made up again. You looked really happy and you had a drink in hand. He turned his attention to Ron, who everyone in Gryffindor was praising, and was shocked by Lavender Brown suddenly kissing him. But he clapped along with everyone else in the room. It didn't even occur to him to care that Harry and Hermione left or that shortly after Lavender and Ron left. It seemed pretty normal behavior. He just went back to watching you with his two best friends. He joined the small group only to notice you were ignoring him. "Seamus, I'll bet 5 gaellons I can beat you at darts." It was shook on and sure enough you won. "Double nothing for pool." He said he conjured up a pool table and you nodded. In agreement to his terms. Sure enough, you beat him. "You owe me 10 gaellons, Finnigan." He rolled his eyes and you smirked. "You know what? You're really cute, I'll excuse your debt." All at once three voices screamed "WHAT?!" All male Gryffindors and your friends. You pulled him into a kiss and kisses him like no one else was there. He didn't know Neville had a crush on you. How could he? Neville was always with Hannah! He pulled you closer and kissed back. It was only a few minutes before he pulled back and you both grinning. "Debt paid." Neville walked away in what looked to be an annoyed state. You cringed but you didn't do it to hurt him. You did it because you felt like you needed a win and whining over a boy with a girlfriend wasn't a win. "Seamus, wanna go to Hogsmeade together sometime?" You asked with a bit of regret and he nodded but didn't seem to know what to say. You knew he usually had a crude sense of humor but in the past few weeks you'd grown so accustom to it.... actually kinda found it funny. And in that same way, grown to rather close to him and Dean. But his sense of humor isn't why you felt regret. It was the brunette boy, who was talking to Luna. Luna looked at you in shock and then shrugged at Neville. She didn't have an explanation and you didn't expect her to.
Neville seemed shocked as Ginny announced that a had a surprise had been arranged for Gryffindor. The music that was playing was stopped while Ginny explained what the surprise was.
You, Seamus, and Dean were singing and playing your instruments to traditional Irish songs. Dean seemed so uncomfortable with how close you and Seamus suddenly were. Neville, Luna, and Rolf sat in a corner talking about this surprise. "I just can't believe it. Just yesterday, she was complaining about how Neville was dating Hannah." Rolf muttered and Neville rolled his eyes. "I'm not. We've just been hanging out in the greenhouse together. We're friends." Luna laughed slightly. "Hannah didn't tell you?"
"Tell me what?"
"Y/N had a crush on you."
"Well Hannah told me that."
"Well... sometimes she hides her feelings."
"What are you trying to say?"
Rolf cut in. "Well, you could ask Y/N or you could retreat over there." He pointed to a group of Gryffindors with a cloud of smoke surrounding them. "And relieve your stress how you usually do." Of course Neville didn't want to confront the girl who just kissed his best friend so he walked over to the group of Gryffindors. They probably got it from his dorm mates anyways. He was actually doing a pretty good job of tuning the little band out. It wasn't until heard the song "Carrickfergus" that he had to look up. He'd heard Seamus play this song a million times over. But he'd never heard it sang so sweet. You were amazing to him.
After awhile, Seamus and Dean had enough and wanted to get back to the party. But you still wanted to sing your heart out. This wasn't for Dean or Seamus. This wasn't for your band. You were doing this for you. You shot back another glass of fire whiskey and were back at it. Except this time you had to sing a capella in and use your feet for a beat. Seamus was amazed at your enthusiasm and couldn't stop calling you his girlfriend to anyone that would listen. Neville, however, was silent. He was memorizing everything about you in this moment. He wanted to have your voice playing on repeat for a week. Any normal person would think you were singing to the boy claiming to be your boyfriend and maybe you should have been. But you weren't. Your heart immediately wanted to reach out to the boy who'd liked since you were like twelve or thirteen. But the part you were unaware of is even this packed room, he would swear on his life you were singing to him. But his hopes and dreams were crushed Cormac McLaggen convinced you to let him play some Weird Sisters and other Wizard Rock music. Seamus immediately grabbed your waist, kissed you on the neck, and then took you by the hand. You smiled at the boy nervously like you didn't know what was happening. He smiled in a way that was actually comforting and said, "Baby, I just want to dance." But the entire time you were dancing with Seamus, you were thinking about Neville.
Tumblr media
When the few Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaws that showed up had outstayed their welcome, you walked back to your common room with Neville. Luna had convinced Seamus it was safer if Neville took you back since he hadn't drank as much. And if Seamus wasn't so drunk maybe he would have thought about how Luna was going to the same place as you anyway. But he was still shooting back firewhiskey and couldn't think straight. So you were holding hands with Neville as you walked through the corridors.
Come tomorrow you'd be Seamus' girlfriend but tonight you could be Neville's. He smelt of smoke and whiskey. It was so intoxicating but your lungs were full of the cool night air that the stone castle walls let in. You smiled at him and whispered. "I swear I'm gonna put you in a song that I write."
"I'm not Seamus you know."
"That's why it'll be about a Galway Girl and her perfect night."
Neville shook his head in disbelief. He was convinced you wouldn't remember it tomorrow so he spoke words he shouldn't. "Then I guess you're my pretty little Galway Girl."

hi!! I was rereading your works, and I wanted to ask something. In the third part of the Armistice Series you say: “They chat a while about mutual friends, Neville filling them in on Luna’s latest trip and how Seamus and Dean are doing. A lot of his stories are peppered with mentions of Hannah, as he seems to eat most of his meals at the Leaky these days.”
Was this a foreshadowing for HannahxNeville? I thought Hannah might have been ace but maybe she is not aro? I was just curious and Neville is an excellent character in Changeling-verse. Thank you in advance!!
Ahhhhh, you had to ask me about this. My great regret. So, like. I may have mentioned there having been a plan at one point. Of a fourth armistice. and then a Dudley fic. And then maybe another armistice fic. Well AFTER THAT, there was supposed to be a NEVILLE fic. My darling. This fic. the one I have all of 1000 nonsensical words scribbled about and am pretty sure will never get written.
In general, it's supposed to be a 'Augusta Longbottom dies and Neville inherits the house and tries to deal by spending all his time in the gardens and greenhouses of the old manor while various of his friends move in and out as needed' fic. Neville deciding if being an auror was really for himself or for his Gran. For his parents. And, yes, Hannah, his best friend of nearly a decade, being there to help every step of the way. It's how they both find a roundabout way to the paths and dreams they both thought closed forever to them, and fall in love along the way, even if it doesn't look quite the way they've been told it's supposed to.
You can have what little I have, if you want! Snippet of the unnamed fic below. (cw: death of a family member, grief)
Augusta Longbottom dies the way she lives her life—on her own schedule, exactly when she is ready, and with complete dignity.
Neville speaks to her one last time the evening before, sitting by her enormous bed in a stiff, uncomfortable chair. He isn’t close enough to touch her, but close enough to hear her words, quiet but still laced with steel.
“You’ve made me proud, Neville. Walking in your father’s footsteps, completing his fight. Taking up the work that needs to be done.”
It’s an ending, certainly.
The thing she doesn’t tell him is what’s supposed to come next.
**
At the wake, Ginny is there, pregnant and impatient while trying not to look like she is, Harry a bit wide-eyed and terrified when he isn’t looking at her with the soppiest grin Neville’s ever seen.
It’s been eight years since Ron and Hermione got married, but Harry and Ginny still haven’t shown any inclination, even as her belly swells. Their friends are smart enough not to say anything about it, even if the press is as stupid as ever.
Ginny reaches out and holds his hand.
“I need to go tell my mum and dad,” Neville says as the guests start to depart. He isn’t sure why he hasn’t gone yet.
“We’ll go with you,” Ginny says, voice fierce in that way that says she will not be argued with.
He doesn’t bother trying.
**
When Luna returns from her latest expedition a few months later, she moves into one of the spare bedrooms. Rolf—not her boyfriend or husband or anything else, he’s told—visits at times, but rarely for long. Luna seems pleased with the arrangement, like Rolf is someone who understands all of her, takes her just as she is and demanding nothing more.
Neville’s glad.
A few months after that, Ginny’s back to work after giving birth and recovering, and Harry is home with the baby. He comes by a few times a week. Harry claims it’s for his own sanity, but Neville still can’t help but feel like maybe he’s checking in on Neville, whose leave from the Aurors has stretched into its ninth month without any sign of ending. Rosier, at this point, has stopped asking.
It’s kind of weird to see Harry like this, baby bouncing on his lap, just as sure and capable as in a fight.
There’s been things in the papers, of course, Henpecked Potter Stuck Home on Nappy Duty, all about how Ginny has unmanned him. Or how disappointingly unambitious Harry has turned out to be, after showing so much early promise. Wiling his days away at home. As if they hadn’t spent the last decade terrified of him, of what he might try to do.
Morons, the lot of them.
Then again, most people have no idea how much Harry quietly continued to do for all of them behind the scenes, [redacted for spoilers!]
To most people Harry is aimless and dominated by his quite possibly evil wife.
Harry doesn’t seem to care less what people think.
It occurs to Neville that to most people Neville is the one who looks properly focused, but he’s really completely adrift, whereas Harry looks like he is exactly where he wants to be. It’s the same stupid feeling that’s always been there, that the two of them are somehow two sides of the same coin. Warped reflections of the other.
You know it could have been you, Harry once confessed to him during a late night together spent pouring over reports trying to run down a particularly nasty artifact. Just as easily as me.
But that is as inconceivable as ever, that Neville could in any way be anything like Harry.
Neville is in awe as always, that Harry could walk away from the ministry. Just like that. Just decide there is something else he wants, damn prophecies and expectations and gossip all the same.
When he mentions it, Harry just lifts his daughter up to his face, blowing a raspberry on her pudgy cheek. “There’s always more work to be done. And it will still be there when I get back. This little one won’t.”
Neville can't argue with that, even if he were inclined to.
**
Spending so much time at the manor, Neville inevitably finds himself in the garden. It’s not neglected, exactly. There are people paid to care for the perfectly manicured rows of shrubs and lawn and flowering perennials. To sweep the paths. Like the one he bounced down the first time he showed any inkling for magic, Great Uncle Archie’s cackle echoing behind him.
He’s never liked the garden, is the thing. Not that he’d ever been brave enough to even think it.
Gran gave him a corner in the large conservatory for his plants, and so long as he kept it contained there, she never said anything about his silly habit. It was enough. Or so he always told himself.
He’s thought about it, is the thing. Just selling the manor. Moving into a flat somewhere. Just leaving it all behind--the memories, the expectations. But it also feels like he’s been leaving too much behind as it is.
So on the one-year anniversary of Gran’s passing, a year since he tanked his career through cowardly attrition, he speaks out loud to the rigid rows and lifeless paths the truth festering in his heart: “I’ve never liked this garden.”
The next week, he asks the gardeners into the parlor and starts making a new plan.

I have a question that I hope you see (also posted as a comment on Luna’s epilogue so ignore if yo uses this) : I was just rereading some chapters in ASC and I came across Rolf when he first met Zee in Chapter 263. He’s talking about his parents, how his dad wanted him to be a auror, and how it was tough to convince his parents to let him transfer schools. But in Luna’s epilogue, Rolf mentions how his parents died when he was 2. Is this a mistake? Or was Rolf referring to his grandparents as his parents?
Hi, @tmr-potterhead250
Just a typo on my part. my story is very long and there are A LOT of details and while I do my best to keep the continuity correct, I'm not perfect. This has now been rectified. Thank you.

for the ship game...Luna x Neville
One of the few ships where the context really matters for me.
What made you ship it? I don't ship them as an endgame, but I have read fics of them having a very casual relationship post-Hogwarts and pre-Hannah and Rolf which I've enjoyed.
What are your favorite things about the ship? In the circumstances I mentioned I like them finding comfort in each other. I think it would have been hard for them with Harry/Ginny and Ron/Hermione coupling up after the war, so I love the idea of them falling together but it not being anything serious.
Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship? I guess them not being endgame would be my unpopular opinion. I love Neville with Hannah and Rolf with Luna, so I really only like Neville/Luna as a short term thing.

A small attempt in writing. A micro fic on how Lily II may have got her middle name... Please read, like and reblog.. Reviews are welcome 😊.
Ginny is sitting in a hospital gown in the bed while Harry is beside her, seemingly in deep thoughts.
Ginny - What? Why do you look sullen? A minute ago you were teary eyed, jumping around shouting that it's a girl. What happened suddenly?
Harry - You were right....
Ginny - Oh honey, I know I'm always. But on what this time?
Harry - I should have named Al after Remus instead.. Now i may never get the chance.
Ginny - As much as i was not thrilled with Severus being part of our son's name. You were right. Teddy should have a chance to name his son with his dad's name.
Harry - Yeah, but still.
Just then the door opened and Luna & Rolf entered.
Ginny (with wide smile) - Luna you are here. I thought you weren't back for another month.
Luna (in her trademark dreamy voice) - I can't miss my god daughter's birth can I? Where is she?
Harry - with the other babies. Come I will show the way.
Luna - Don't worry, I will find my way.
Rolf - What are you planning to name her?
Ginny - We've decided with Lily for the first name. Nothing on the middle though.
Rolf - Not Hermione or Minerva?
Harry (in a fake scandalous tone) - oh God no. As much as I love Hermione and grateful to Professor McGonagall, we are not naming our daughter those names.
Luna - you should name her Luna.
Ginny - Ummm...., Thanks for the blessing Luna but it just feels weird to name our child after people who are alive....
Luna - Oh, It's not after me.... It's after Remus. You know how he was a moon person....
Harry (excitedly) - Luna. You are genius, thank you.
Luna - Don't mention 😊

6,12 Wip ask game.
Thank you for the Ask, Anon!
6 What work of yours is it most similar to?
Well, I am not sure how to answer this. What I mean is, I am not sure at all which of my posted works this is most similar to. There are 19 pieces posted to my AO3 (yes, it says 20, that’s related to trying to figure out how to add a particular work to an Exchange collection). Most of them are in a series that comprises my Hinny HC about the 19 Years After period in the Epilogue. Of the remainder, one focuses on Luna and Rolf, and still arguably within 19 Years. One is a stand-alone AU, two more are l, or could be called, AU: Dreaming a Life (which is the “duplicated” fic mentioned above, is in part arguably AU and also in 19 Years), and Nexus. One is, hmm, I’m still not sure how to classify it. AU? Could be. Definitely meta. None of which answers this question.
Nexus is probably the most similar in that it is also a Crossover, tying in both the Hood Omens and Diskworld fandoms. The WIP I’m on now is Mystic Dream, and comprises both a Crossover with the NCIS fandom, and an answer of sorts to the very deliberate cliffhanger at the end of Honeymooners.
Other than that, being involved with NCIS it’s also something of a Mystery/Police Procedural. I’ve only shown Auror Harry three-four times, and never much actually *solving* mysteries. Those are more something of his daily life and work.
Mystic Dream alsonahows how Hinny’s relationship grew deeper over time, so there’s some similarity to all the 19 Years because that’s one of my big themes. Hinny growing together.
12 How did you come up with this fic? Where were you/what were you doing when you thought of it?
Ha! Now this one I can answer. Shortly after re-entering the World of Fanfic, I came across a story that intrigued me. It is a crossover between, yup Potter and NCIS. It never got completed, may be abandoned, and I’m a bit blank on the title just now because I haven’t visited it in years. Just the idea that the Potters would somehow meet and get to know/work with some of the NCIS characters tickled me.
The only idea I kept from that fic is that the Potters meet Gibbs on their honeymoon. The rest of it, while enjoyable, is mostly an opportunity for that writer to put a lot of their fave characters together, and Forget About Canon in either fandom.
Mystic Dream is hopefully true to canon on both sides, with good reasons for the crossover, and even to answer some unanswered questions from both my fics, and one in particular from NCIS. My goal is to complete and post this one this year.

The "short story" that post was talking about was a Pottermore Quidditch World Cup report posted in Pottermore. There was mention of Harry and the others, and it included mentions of Luna and Rolf
Come to think of it, I do remember reading somewhere that there were mini stories written on pottermore a few years ago. I think I remember coming across a quidditch related one, but not sure if this was the one I came across. I remember joining Pottermore for these mini stories, but by the time I joined they were no longer there, and within a year or so of me joining warnerbros took over anc wizarding world was born. It’s a shame these mini stories aren’t around anymore, I would have liked to read this particular one and the others that were posted.

So I'm a sucker for characters who are artists, and Luna and Dean canonically became good friends in DH, so of course I'm in love with the idea of them bonding over art. And that means headcanons.
Luna is a mural and canvas kind of person and draws everything in her own style and mostly makes up subjects as she goes. Dean is more into still life studies and is the one who has a sketchpad and pencils on him everywhere he goes.
I can see them striking up a conversation about art when Luna sees Dean doodling on a scrap of parchment and compliments it. It becomes a thing between them, and Dean is grateful to have something to talk about with her that is not Crumple-Horned Snorkacks or other confusing things.
They manage to find some parchment and ink in Shell Cottage and draw and paint together when they need a distraction from the depressing state of the world. Their faces light up when they compare art styles and exchange tips, and Dean is endeared by her talking about how painting is good for her soul, and Luna is impressed by him telling her about all the books he has read about Muggle art.
Although they don't have much else in common, this is enough for them to grow to like each other. Bonding over something that makes them happy makes them a source of comfort to each other.
This stays a thing between them even after the war. Dean goes to a Muggle art college and plans to research on wizarding art someday, because he thinks wizarding art is a fascinating and unexplored field. Luna starts working with Rolf as a Magizoologist. But for both of them, the other remains that one friend you occasionally make time for, no matter how busy you are.
Their other friends and respective boyfriends (I totally ship Deamus btw) are amused by their enthusiasm for this but think it's cute anyway.
They regularly meet up to show each other their works and when they are feeling particularly energetic, they spend a day painting outdoors and compare their works in the evening. On these sessions Luna usually comes up with colourful but serene renditions of sceneries, and Dean produces stacks of sketches of everything from insects on grass to trees.
Letters are not really their thing, but quick notes by owl are.
'I have to show you what I painted on the walls of the living room, can you come over on Saturday?'
'Cool! I'll bring my drawings too.'
They both admire the other's style. Dean envies how good she is with colours and Luna compliments how easily he makes everything look realistic.
Most of their presents to each other are art equipments, and on special occasions, paintings.
Dean illustrated all of Luna's books on Magizoology. When Dean finally published his book on wizarding art after years of research and procrastination, it was dedicated to Luna.
Just ... they are awesome.

Prompt: Draco has always struggled with making the right choice.
Draco picked her up by the waist seemingly effortlessly, and spun her around, her hair flying as she laughed aloud, eyes closed in happiness.
The sun was warm and welcoming on their skins, and the sweet smelling summer breeze felt like a caress, taking away all anxieties and past pains with its touch.
Setting her down gently, she clutched his forearms as she regained her equilibrium.
"I love you," he said for probably the hundredth time that day, leaning his head down to rest his forehead against hers.
With her eyes only inches away from his own, he tried to look as deep as he could into them, knowing that whatever he found in them would only make his heart glow.
"I believe you Draco," Luna replied, her eyes dreamy as she wrapped her arms around his neck. "You needn't repeat it so often."
Chuckling, he tucked a stray hair behind her ear (mindful of her wand that was there, of course)."I know," he told her honestly. "It's me who can't believe that you love me."
*
He had never been able to escape her gaze. Not when he was 16 and between the doors of life and death; and not now, at the age of 35, with a wife and child to call his own.
Luna Scamander was watching him from across the ballroom, and it was all Draco could do but tremble under her heavy gaze. Astoria was by his side, oblivious to his discomfort as she chatted with other socialites. Scorpious was over to the side talking to some boys his age.
Unable to meet her eyes full on, he stared back from his periphery. She was pregnant, much larger than Astoria had ever been, and was seated next to her husband Rolf. She made no effort to conceal her stare, but that was perhaps to any onlooker, it would appear that Luna was staring off into the distance, so blank were her eyes.
Draco knew better.
"Love, I need to run to the powder room for just a moment," Astoria told him with a pat on his arm. He stiffly nodded, not really taking in her words, more focused on how Luna was glowing like a rose, despite the low lighting of the room. After a few minutes, the aristocrats who had been conversing with Astoria realized that Draco was not interested in carrying on the conversation, and moved on with a huff.
In the reflection of his goblet, he watched her say something to Rolf. He nodded, and she stood up.
She was walking towards him.
Squishing down the terror that was rising in him, he took a large gulp from the goblet, letting the firewhiskey burn his insides instead of regret.
"Draco."
How many years had passed since he had heard his name pass by her lips? Every inch of his skin feeling as if it were being stretched apart, he stood to face her.
The years had only done good to her, in terms of image. She was beautiful, no one could deny that. In their Hogwarts days, there could have perhaps been a detail or two that could have been picked upon, but that was the case no longer. His throat constricted.
She was watching him, her eyes clouded as they always were. She seemed at peace, with her hand rubbing the swell of her belly, and her cheeks red with health. If only, if only he could have claimed happiness the way she finally had.
And yet, he was content with misery. He had broken her heart,  due to his own cowardice. He had put being a Malfoy first, and her love far further down the list. He had let the ambition of being the perfect heir overshadow the fluttering longing of lying in her arms every night. His unhappiness was justly earned.
Yes,  Luna deserved every ounce of happiness in this world, and he-well, he had gotten what he had wanted, hadn't he? Perfect pureblood wife, perfect pureblood son. He would be buried with only one regret, and she stood in front of him.
"Perhaps I shouldn't have believed you," Luna finally spoke, and Draco understood her reference immediately. His eyes burned.
"Perhaps," he whispered.

chances that rolf attended ilvermorny? (or some other school, but his grandmother and all it seems more likely than somewhere outside of the uk or us) or that he was just older than luna and she just didn’t attend during his years at hogwarts?

Draco Malfoy x Astoria Malfoy x Fem! Reader
Warnings: Angst, Mentions of cheating.
Request: Hi, I was one of the many who requested a one shot.So I wrote that I'd like for you to write an angsty one shot with Draco, Astoria and reader. I heard this sound: So she gets the flowers right? And I got excuses, I got used and shattered." And it stuck with me still 🙈 You can make the end happy or sad. However you like.Thank you 😍💚 @perfect-storm95
A/N: Well, well, well. This has made me hate Draco for the remainder of the day. Also, I’m gonna throw a little twist into this.
Word Count: 3,714
“All you have to do is say yes.”
__
Tumblr media
It took a respectable amount of control to ignore the lurch in your stomach when he put his arm around her shoulder. It took even more restraint to avoid the heat in your throat when he laughed at something that she had spoken. And it took absolutely everything in you to ignore the way your heart ached when he kissed her the way he had once kissed you.
It had been a wild evening for sure, to say the very least. What was supposed to be a lighthearted night full of making fond memories and even more fun, you quickly discovered that you’d be having to face a part of your past that you had yet to come to terms with.
It had been almost three years since the last time you had seen Draco Malfoy. It had been three years since the last straw had been drawn and you left his home in hurt tears. Three years since you had walked out of his life, making a silent vow to never see him again, even if it meant going out of your way to do so.
You never thought you’d reunite quite like this.
Luna Lovegood had always been a dear friend of yours, despite the fact that she was a year younger than you. Her kindness and eccentric nature had appealed to you in the best of ways. The bubbly Ravenclaw girl had blossomed into a wonderful woman, and it overjoyed you to see her beginning this new chapter.
Her wedding was exactly how you had imagined it. It was far from traditional, but it was stunning nonetheless. Luna was a radiant bride, and you were beyond happy for her. Your good mood, however, tanked when you saw the blonde headed man at the reception afterwards. Even though it had been a few years, Draco still looked as he did the night you left him.
It was a real punch in the gut to see him there, and you were almost convinced  that someone had spiked your drink. You were sure that you were dreaming, or that he was just a weird figment of your imagination.
He was still tall and lean, and you couldn’t help but allow your eyes to follow the chiseled line of his jaw. He was wearing his nicest, favorite suit that still fit his frame perfectly. His voice was still serious and assertive, and his tone was still as it had always been. Make no mistake, it was still the same Draco Malfoy.
To make matters worse, it hurt like hell to see his arm wrapped around the very woman that caused your breakup.
You wouldn’t deny that there was bad blood between yourself and Draco. Things had ended on a rotten note and things were never discussed, so it was only natural that there was unspoken tension.
Now, you were sulking at the table just behind theirs, not even interested in the engaging conversation happening around you between friends of yours that you hadn’t seen in quite some time. You just couldn’t seem to look away. It was like if you looked away and then looked back, he wouldn’t be there anymore. However, your silly belief was dismantled when his gaze suddenly caught yours. Yep, he was definitely real and sitting right in front of you.
Because you knew those piercing gray eyes anywhere.
You half expected him to pay you no mind and look away as if he hadn’t seen you at all, maybe even ignore your presence completely. But no, his glance locked with yours for a solid few seconds. Minds racing, hands shaking, hearts beating.
You were actually the first to look away, attempting to shift your attention as if you hadn’t just seen the only man you ever loved after so much time had passed. Even if you had been listening to what was being said around you, you were sure you wouldn’t have been able to hear a thing due to the thump of your heart in your ears.
A deep blush had tinted Draco’s pale cheeks, and he had yet to look away. Your mind trailed to the woman who was obviously his date, and it was someone you REALLY had hoped you’d never see again.
Astoria Greengrass was a beautiful woman. She was someone that you couldn’t help but compare yourself to. All the way from her voluminous hair to her impeccably pedicured toes. You had always thought of her to be the model of a picture perfect woman. But you never once thought that she was supposed to be competition for you.
It was a moment that would be permanently burned into your brain. No matter how hard you tried to forget (even going as far to use a spell on yourself) it still made its way back to you. It was a sickening sight, walking into your shared home with your boyfriend of 6 years to find him in bed with someone that had been under your nose the entire time.
It was a massive blow to your pride, trust, and your heart. Draco had pleaded with and begged you to forgive him and to let it go. In between your screams and cries, he promised that things could work out and that things could be the way they were before.
You had magic for a reason, and he could easily obliviate all three of you and no one would ever know. But he knew how dishonest that would be. And you hated dishonesty.
Astoria had ducked out of the house just when your fight was getting started, which was good for her because you were sure you would’ve done something you might regret later. You and Draco had fought for hours. So long that your throats had gone raw from all the yelling and your eyes were almost puffed shut from all the tears. You had told him it was over in a burst of anger and hurt, and left him alone in your bedroom almost falling to pieces.
And that was the last time you had seen Draco Malfoy.
His presence hadn’t totally disappeared from your life. His name popped up in conversations from time to time, and you’d often stumble upon pictures of the two of you during happier times. But what you had not realized until seeing him again was that he had not once left the safety of your heart.
You were still in love with Draco Malfoy.
Your experience at Luna’s wedding had taken a full turn, and now you found yourself incredibly uncomfortable. You shouldn’t have been so surprised that he was there. Luna and Rolf had invited just about anyone they had ever been in contact with. Still, it was throwing you for a loop that Draco was sitting right in front of you.
It was the beautiful, gentle music that began to play overhead that finally snapped you out of your daze. Along with Luna and her newly wed husband, a few couples had broken away from their designated tables to slow dance on the dance floor of the reception. It didn’t take long for the floor to be crowded with people.
As hard as you tried, you couldn’t fight the urge to let your eyes flicker back to Draco. It was almost like an instinct. It was a natural behavioral thing that was still as sharp as ever.
He wasn’t looking at you anymore, but his eyes were fixed on Astoria, who he had guided up from her seat and taken by the hand. A hot boiling sensation was building up in your gut at the sight of him leading her to the floor as well, holding her close and swaying with her to the comfort of the music. It wasn’t long before you were out on the floor as well, being spun around carefully by Blaise Zabini, whom you had been friends with throughout your years at Hogwarts. But your attention was far from Blaise.
Jealousy ran rampant through your core as you watched the way Draco’s hand rested on the small of Astoria’s back, his fingertips dancing across her. He looked down slightly into her dazzling eyes, a smile appearing on his face that was nothing short of lovestruck.
He had once danced with you like that. He had once held you like that. He had once looked at you like that. Granted, the situation usually involved the two of you alone in your living room under nothing but candlelight and music from one of your favorite shared records. But those were the moments that had always stuck with you.
The times where nothing else mattered but being together. The moments where the two of you felt like the only people in the world. When loving each other unconditionally was the only thing you ever wanted to do. Perhaps that was the hardest part of it all. The fact that you never knew where things went wrong. Your perfect relationship had crashed and burned unexpectedly with little explanations to why Draco decided that suddenly you weren’t enough.
Draco caught you staring for the second time, his focus visibly moving from the woman that was currently in his arms. He had this look of uncertainty in his expression, but as if he had already made his mind up. Before you could process anything that was happening, Draco broke away from Astoria, and he was standing next to you and Blaise.
“Mind if I take [Y/N] from you, Blaise?” Draco smiled radiantly at his old friend.
Your stomach hit your shoes seemingly. Blaise smirked, still as coy as always.
“Only if I can have a dance with your lady.” He grinned.
Draco chuckled lowly, allowing Blaise to take Astoria for a while. Despite everyone maneuvering around you, you felt like you were standing alone with Draco. You could only look at him, words failing to form. His hand trembled faintly as he held it out to you.
“Care to dance?” He offered.
Your head was screaming no, but your heart was screaming yes. You weren’t sure if this was a good idea or not, considering you weren’t sure what this was all about. But as always, your heart’s desires won out.
“Sure.” You replied meekly.
A million fireworks exploded through you when his hand touched yours, pulling you in to him. Your arms wrapped around his shoulders, his hands resting on your back the way they had with Astoria. He stroked your skin through the material of your dress, as lovingly as he had all the times before.
You were equal parts frustrated and desperate. Frustrated with yourself for still longing for him and missing him after all this time. Desperate for things to be the way they were before.
“You look wonderful.” He spoke quietly, careful not to disturb the peace of the atmosphere.
Oh, his voice. It was still deep and husky, but full of thought. It sent shivers down your spine that you hoped he couldn’t feel with his hand resting there.
“So do you.” You responded, wishing your heart would slow just long enough to get a hold of yourself.
He continued to hold you flush to him, taking in the scent of that same perfume you always wore. It flooded him with memories and remembrance.
Truth be told, you knew all along that you couldn’t get away with never seeing Draco again. Even if you hadn’t been together for quite some time, your circle was just too close to successfully dodge him forever. But this was not at all how you thought it would go.
If you were being completely honest, you thought you’d casually run into him in Diagon Alley or somewhere that you went often. You always imagined that you’d spot him from across the room and be filled with such a rage that you’d be too angry to speak to him or would explode into a huge fight scene. You’d storm out without ever trying to make real contact with him, and you’d try your hardest to go back to living as normally as possible. This was far from what you had ever dreamed of.
And you weren’t as angry as you always thought you’d be. Admittedly, there was still a pit of fury from the fact of his infidelity. But there was another feeling that seemed to wash that pit out completely. You weren’t angry at all really.
You were sad.
“How have you been?” He asked, stepping in sync with you to the music.
“Staying busy with work. How about you?”
You were a little shocked when he didn’t burst into rambles about everything you had missed out on in the last few years. Instead, he only shrugged as if he wasn’t too impressed with himself.
“I’ve been good. Mother and Father still ask about you.” He answered.
A quick glimmer of joy beamed on your face. Draco’s heart leapt with thrill.
“Do they? Oh, how are they, Dray?” You asked with eagerness to hear about his parents well-being, not even realizing the use of his nickname.
His heart swelled.
“They’re the same as always.” He replied.
You nodded briefly, changing the subject.
“That’s good,” You prompted, only continuing once nothing else was said; “It’s been a while.”
“It has. I’m happy you’re doing well.” Draco answered.
You had been trying to ignore it, but the cold metal of his ring was prevalent through your dress, and it told you everything you needed to know.
“So, you’re married now, huh?” You wondered aloud.
The blush returned to his cheeks, and he sucked in a breath.
“Yeah. Almost a year now,” He confirmed; “You?”
A flush of embarrassment and dread flooded your body. You didn’t want to have to tell him that you hadn’t moved on when he clearly had. It wasn’t that you hadn’t tried to meet and find someone new. A few boyfriends had come and gone since Draco, and while they were all great, none of them had captured your heart. Even if it had felt like it at times, the world didn’t stop spinning the night you left Draco Malfoy, so you knew there was someone else out there.
You just wished they’d come sooner rather than later.
“No, not yet. I suppose that I haven’t found the one yet.” You said in a way that was unintentionally hurtful, but still left a sting in both yours and Draco’s chest.
It felt like a lie to say that. You had convinced yourself that Draco was “the one” long ago. From time to time, you still thought that. Draco himself would confess that he had felt the same way about you. Spending forever with you was all he had ever wanted. Getting married, having kids, and falling more and more in love everyday.
He’d never forgive himself for messing all of that up.
Silence grew between the two of you. Something that never would’ve happened if the two of you were still together. You and Draco had never run out of things to talk about.
You remembered all the nights that he made love to you until neither of you could hold yourselves up. How could you forget the way he cherished every part of you as if it were crafted by the highest hand?
You recalled the way you craved his touch and how he could have you in a puddly, whining mess underneath his hands within mere seconds. You missed his touch. You missed all those times.
You missed him.
Now here you were. Like two total strangers who knew everything about each other. It was heartbreaking.
“I think about you. A lot.” Draco abruptly professed, his voice even quieter on the off chance that Astoria and Blaise might come back waltzing by.
Something you could only describe as pure shock blindsided you. You certainly weren’t expecting THAT at all. As much as you wanted to fling yourself at him, you knew this was wrong. Your head shook, feeling as if it weighed like a ton of bricks.
“Stop.” You meant to say as a stern instruction, but it came out more as a pleading whisper.
He chuckled at himself incredulously, not acknowledging your beg.
“It’s the truth,” He remarked; “You know, I thought that marrying Astoria would fix me. I thought it was going to fill the piece of my life that was missing.”
Your head was still rocketing off flight responses. Every neuron howling at you to stop listening. To ignore. To get over it. To forget. But you wouldn’t.
You couldn’t.
“But I was wrong. I was so wrong. It took me far too long to realize that you’re the only thing that could ever fill that missing piece. You complete that picture,” He explained; “You complete me.”
It was near impossible not to listen to what he was saying. If your heart were beating any harder then it would surely explode. Your eyes were shining with tears that you had been holding back for far too long.
“Draco, I...” You trailed off, your voice quivering.
“Shh. Don’t cry, my pretty girl,” He hushed; “I can leave her, you know. Astoria will never be what you were. I know it, and she knows it. She’ll never say that though.”
It seemed that you were growing more stunned with each word that fell from his lips. He was offering to leave his wife for you. He was more than willing to just drop everything for you. It was a lot to consider...but you weren’t exactly leaping at his invitation.
“We can start over. Just you and me. We can be everything we were before,” He said, leaning in to where his lips were just barely brushing your ear; “All you have to do is say yes.”
It was a hell of a tempting offer. You had a chance to go back to him, to make up for all the time that you lost. You could make more of those amazing memories that you held so close to you.
You could have a life with Draco once again.
As much as you wanted to cave and give him everything you possibly could, there was something that was stopping you from giving in to him. Because even though you had this chance, you knew that it would never be like it was before.
“I can’t.” You hushed out.
You could feel Draco’s heart sink. Now tears were brimming his own eyes, blearing his vision and causing a lump in his throat.
“Please, darling...” He begged; “Why not?”
You shook your head again, holding your breath to stop your own tears from falling down your cheeks. It was killing you to do this, but you knew it was the right thing.
No matter how bad it hurt.
“Because you and I both know it won’t be like it was before. No matter how many times we try to start over,” You told him; “You broke my trust. You broke my heart, Draco. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to forgive you for what you did.”
Determination and desperation flashed over his features.
“It was a mistake. A horrible, stupid mistake that I know for a fact that I never would’ve let happen again if you had stayed.” He pleaded.
You swallowed hard, forcing a sob back down.
“And if I had stayed, I’d never be able to go a day without wondering if that’s actually true.” You recanted.
Draco was shattered. He felt like he had been broken into millions of tiny bits that were thrown across the world.
Now he truly knew how you had felt since you left him.
“[Y/N], I-“ He went to say but was cut off.
“I’m sorry, Draco.” You apologized, eyeing Astoria and Blaise beginning to dance their way over to the two of you.
A single tear slipped from Draco’s left eye, the tear rolling down all the way to his jaw. The fate he had feared the most had just come true.
He had just lost his forever. And there wasn’t anything he could do about it.
All he could do was make sure he bared the rest of his heart to the woman he loved the most.
“I love you.” Draco proclaimed.
One of your hands came to cup his face, his head lulling in your soft touch.
“I love you, Draco.”
Before anything else could be said, Astoria and Blaise were at your side. She looked at Draco and back to you, you weren’t sure what it was, but she almost looked as if she knew everything that had just been said.
Without another word, you and Draco stopped dancing. Your arms fell from around him and his hold loosened so you could step away. Astoria’s hand rested on Draco’s shoulder as if to usher him away, but his hands were still holding yours.
His icy eyes looked into yours, as if to silently ask you once more if you would come with him. The look in your eyes told him that your mind was made up. You backed away from him, his fingertips only falling from yours once you were far enough away that he physically couldn’t reach you anymore.
Astoria whisked him away once you were out of their space. Both of you feeling much more empty than before. The rest of the night was much quieter for you. You kept to yourself, feeling as if you had been gutted completely.
And that was the last time you saw Draco Malfoy.
Your first wish of never wanting to see him again came true after that night. You never saw or heard from him again. You constantly found yourself wondering how things turned out for him. You wondered if he stayed with Astoria. You wondered if they had kids. You wondered if they spent forever together.
You wondered if they did all the things that you and Draco were supposed to do.
