having thoughts about that deleted scene in which arthur tells merlin to sit next to him and???? why did you delete this you absolute fools you walking pigeons you swimming hawks that was so good so????

CAUSE hear me out merlin, insolent merlin, the one that called arthur a royal ass on their second day, the one constantly showing that its not blood that makes you noble, THAT merlin, even after all this, is still insecure about his place. he was faraway, in a corner, minding his business and getting ready to serve the others, like a servant, and then arthur tells him to sit next to him.

he acknowledges merlin in front of everyone, he shows him where his place is: next to arthur. it's more than him simply calling merlin a friend, or seeking for his council in private. he is asking merlin to sit next to him, with all the knights. he is showing him what truly means to be equal. it's not only an act of friendship, it's arthur (a noble, a royal) recognizing merlin (a peasant, a servant), showing him that merlin is valued, that his opinion is worth just the same.

it's also arthur admitting to merlin that he wants him there. he wants merlin not just behind him, but also beside him.

the next scene, in which everyone says they will follow arthur, and arthur goes like "merlin?" when the other says nothing, hits so much harder after this deleted scene. arthur truly, deeply wants merlin with him, as a friend and an equal. arthur never doubted merlin's place in his life, and, when merlin was unsure and was waiting in a corner, arthur made sure to show it to him.

to show him that his place is next to him.

so I read someone talking about a merlin deleted scene where merlin compliments the knights and arthur gets pissy and goes fight them to prove that he is better, and I thought it was an exaggeration but it ISNT AT ALL

scene includes:

Arthur says that Percival is strong but not agile, he isn’t the whole package. Merlin agrees and says that GWAINE is the whole package

Arthur goes off to fight Gwaine, who takes his shirt and gives it to Percival??? akjdjda

(we were robbed of shirtless gwaine with a sword)

Arthur then goes fight Elyan, wins, and goes brag to merlin saying, and I quote, “Elyan has got concentration, strength, the whole package, and still I win! What do you have to say about that?” while being dangerously close to him

They had to take it out because it’s the gayest scene I’ve ever watched in my whole fucking life they wouldn’t be able to beat the merthur allegations after it

Welcome to my usual metas where we hyperfixate over Arthur Pendragon’s love for Merlin. Today’s episode features this scene right here:

To remind you of the context, it was s03e12 when Camelot was besieged and Arthur just ordered Gaius, Gwaine, and Elyan to go find shelter in the woods. A second later, he looks at Merlin, diverts his eyes, and tells him, “Merlin, you should go with them.”

Which btw translates, in Arthur Pendragon's dictionary, to: Merlin, I want you safe, I want you away from harm’s way, but Merlin, Oh Merlin, don’t leave me. I really don’t want you to leave me. I sustain my strength from you. You’re the bravest man I have ever met. I keep going because I know you’re there. Don’t go and leave me. I am urging you to go, but please don’t believe me.

I really just can’t. Because you guys, Arthur isn’t scared to go fight an entire army of the dead. He’s not scared that he is limping and injured and definitely won’t make it. He’s just scared to do it without Merlin.

And when Merlin looks at him and says, “Nah, I’ve seen the woods already”, Arthur knows Merlin had heard it all, and chose the kindest response possible that doesn’t spot on his worry and fear.

you know how in 5.13 arthurs like “i tried to take your head off with a mace” and merlins like “and i stopped you, using magic” and arthurs immediate reply to that is “you cheated” … and i guess i was just thinking about the breathy little laugh merlin lets out in response to that. bc like i just noticed how maybe it was a little bit of relief and awe. because like. he just talked to arthur. about magic. about using magic From The Beginning. against him in a fight. and arthurs immediate response, his most natural reaction to that, was to comment on merlins poor sportsmanship. out of anything he couldve said something about. the first thing that came to mind was merlin not playing fair. which. idk. IDK!!!

this scene shouldnt hurt me THIS much but it does like you can see the mixture of pain, determination and resignation on Merlin's face, and the hurt and betrayal and confusion on Arthur's face. he is trying to make sense of the Merlin he has known for ten years and the Merlin in front of him brb i need to cry
