Dream Machine - A Mettaton x Reader Fic

As you lie awake in bed, only able to focus on your worries, your boyfriend Mettaton offers encouragement and help.

So, not so fun fact: while I had this idea rattling around my head for a while, I only got down to writing it while I was in the psych ward 🙃 Though, writing fic by hand in a journal without autocorrect or Grammarly made me feel like one of the OG Star Trek slash shippers in the 60s, which was a really fun feeling! Aside from word choice and a few extra sentences, the typed version remains relatively unchanged from the handwritten one, though I may still share the pics of my journal on Tumblr or Twitter! Also, the title comes from the Steam Powered Giraffe song of the same name!

You lie awake in bed next to your android boyfriend. He was already powered into sleep mode for the night, as his LED eye displays were dimmed and his tail-like charging cord plugged into the nearby wall. You look at him for a moment before turning to the pink canopy of the bed above you, starting at the shadows in the fabric formed by the lights from outside your shared penthouse apartment. The darkness warped, presenting visual manifestations of the problems keeping you from sleep. 

Yes, you knew Mettaton had his worries, but as the Underground’s biggest star now on the surface, he had much more significant concerns compared to yours. Tour dates, filming, recording sessions, the list goes on. Yours are small compared to his. Insignificant. Human. You feel your stress tug your eyelids open, preventing your “beauty rest,” as your boyfriend lovingly called it. As you shift once more and pull the satin sheets closer to you, you hear a familiar boot-up sound and fans whirring to life. Oh shit. Your tossing and turning set off Mettaton’s motion detection, a vestigial feature not yet removed since his purpose was changed.

“D-darling, is something the matter?” The robot’s voice glitches momentarily, his now-illuminated pink eyes looking at you with concern.

“Y-yeah! I must’ve rolled over too far,” you nervously chuckle. “I didn’t mean to wake you, babe. Get some rest, as neither of us wants you low on battery tomorrow.”

Mettaton purses his lips, not taking no for an answer. “Darling, look at me.” His tone sharpens when you curl up tighter with your back facing him. “Look. At. Me.” With a resigned sigh, you turn to face him. “Oh, beautiful,” he sighs, cupping your cheek with his gloved hand, his thumb circling below the dark bags and worry lines underneath your eyes. “How much sleep have you been getting lately?”

You mumble your response, prompting your boyfriend to look at you sternly. “Usually only two hours a night, especially when you’re not here,” you fess up.

You can see the guilt hit your boyfriend, causing you to quickly run your hand through his synthetic hair and reassure him. “It’s not because of you, I promise!”

“But why didn’t you tell me sooner?” Despite being the biggest celebrity of the century, Mettaton still immensely cares for you. You’re his star, his world, his everything. Seeing you suffer makes his SOUL feel like shattering.

You inhale deeply. “I-” you quickly correct yourself. “It just feels all so unimportant compared to you. I mean, you’ve got so much amazing stuff going on right now. And with me, it’s just…” You hesitate momentarily, unsure if you want to continue, until you see Mettaton nod with understanding and compassion. Soon, your words flow out of you, every insecurity and doubt leaving your lips. Tears begin to fall from your eyes, leaving small damp spots on the pillowcase you rested on. Mettaton extends his arm in back of him to pass you a tissue box, the lotion-infused tissues a welcome relief for your sore eyes.

“Did that help you feel better, sweetheart?” You nod, and Mettaton presses a soft kiss to your forehead. “Good. Now, I want you to listen to me very closely.” You nod, and the robot cups your cheeks once more. “You will never, ever be inconsequential to me, darling. You mean so much, not just to me but to everyone around you! Don’t ever feel like you don’t matter, or whatever you’re going through doesn’t matter, either. I care, we care.” He kisses you on the lips this time. “I love you.”

“I love you too,” you murmur back, held tight in his embrace.

After a few moments, Mettaton lets go. “Do you think you’ll be able to sleep now, darling?”

You let out another breathy, anxious chuckle. “Probably not, to be honest. It’s alright, though. I’ll make it up tomorrow during the day.”

“There has to be something we can do, sweetheart.” Mettaton’s pupils shift from his usual hearts into turning gears before changing to a lightbulb emoticon. “Hey! It’s not technically released yet, but Blooky and Alphys were working on music to benefit monsters and humans!” He shoots you one of his signature grins. “Co-produced by yours truly, of course!” Mettaton finds the demo CD in the nightstand drawer, preparing to play it from his speakers. “How would you like to be our first test subject?” His eyes sparkle with encouragement, and you just can’t say no to him. 

The robot pats the bed, motioning for you to lie down. He loads the CD into one of the slots built into his EX form, his other hand drifting down to hold yours. The ambient tones soon lull you into a reverie, with the faint sounds of rushing water mixed into the track. It’s an obvious callback to the family of ghostly cousins’ original abode, but it soothes your mind as your anxieties flow away. As you close your eyes, you feel the sensation of the water surrounding you, floating through space and time and easing your body and mind. Mettaton’s hand is a tether to the physical world, keeping you grounded as your mind drifts away peacefully. Although they were once wide and bloodshot, your eyes become heavy and worn as you finally sail away into a restful sleep.

Papyton Week Day 4: AU

Mettaton really wants this novel to be written yesterday, but writer's block has been kicking his butt. Papyrus offers him a day off. Eventually, he decides to take it. In the end, it pays off even better than he could have ever expected.

I will preface this by saying, I do not write AU ... like ever. This is *very* simple. There is almost no depth. I posted and wrote it before I chickened out and wrote/did nothing. I love Stardew Valley to the point that I played it while in labor with my kid. It felt fitting to choose it for my AU.

There is so much to say about this robot but let me start off with my initial thoughts on him.

For like, a good good while I wasn't sure what Mettaton's gender was? In all fairness I was raised in a hella conservative country and Undertale was the first piece of media I'd ever interacted with that even depicted queer people, so for a bit I assumed the pink meant he was probably female. That wasn't helped when I discovered that Mettaton was Blooky's cousin with the locked pink house.

Luckily for me he was discussed enough that I eventually realized my mistake before I ever had to admit it. That would have been emabrassing.

Anyway I absolutely adored this robot and his style, his quizzes were cool and he had the most charming attitude that made me smile whenever he was there (not to mention the quizzes were funny, too). Don't get me started on the musical. Or when he hits you with the puzzle you've almost certainly forgotten the rules for. Hotland is very well done, even if some people dislike having to deal with Alphys's messages there (personally I thought those were neat).

Despite all this I have to admit that I initially thought he was a lot more shallow than expected. I didn't realize he was the type of person to actually care about his love ones, and I probably would've believed anyone who told me he treated Alphys like shit (okay maybe I'd have been a little skeptical, but you get the point).

Nowadays, I'm honestly pretty fond of his relationship with Alphys, as he's probably the one person she relied on the most during her various fuck ups. Also, his... his worries about Alphys in the ending where he becomes king... ah, that still makes me tear up a little. You can tell he cares and regrets not being a better friend to her.

This is only partly related but I dislike Papyton. For no reason, really, I just don't like it, and I disliked having to see it so often (until I learnt filters existed, anyway). I couldn't tell you why; the ship's perfectly fine. Yet if I see a fic with it I click out. Oh well, maybe I'll get over it one day.

I could totally see a world in which I become as attached to Mettaton as I am to Cagliostro from GBF. I'm not trans by any stretch (perhaps I'm non-binary, given I don't actually care much about my own gender in the slightest, but for now I'll stick with cis+ until I actually feel like I should consider it more) but I do have admiration for characters like them who strive to be their best selves in terms of appearance and are absolutely confident in it. I suppose if I was born a girl, I'd be more attached to Mettaton than Cagliostro, but eh. Who knows.

Mettaton's importance (or rather, lack of) in the genocide run is saddening, though I have come to terms with it because in terms of the game's writing it's a pretty damn good decision. I do love that he got fangames giving him an actual battle though, it's lovely to see him actually get that chance to fight back.

I feel the need to restate once more that I adore his relationship with Alphys, and seeing works explore that relationship is always great. I think Mettaton is one of the least fan-explored of the game's main cast, so it'd be wonderful to see more works. It's a shame I'm too busy thinking about Sans, Frisk and Chara to do that myself, though.

One more thing: Until I wrote this post, I always wondered why Mettaton didn't just fight the human in his indestructible body instead, especially in the genocide route. I mean, it's obviously because his other forms are the ones actually designed for human eradication, of course, but I also like to think it's because he likes those forms a lot more than his box form, as he sees them as a proper expression of who he truly is. I just think that's neat. Sure, he's indestructible when stuck in the closet, hiding who he truly is, but it's restricting, and wouldn't you prefer to simply be you? Even if it could mean you could get hurt? I think that question is somewhat inseparable from Mettaton's character as a whole, as his overly confident and theatrical personality could perhaps be one answer to that. It's fine if you get hurt a little, because in the end you'll be much happier for it.

Another Undertale anti-skeleharem idea thanks to my mind poorly attempting to figure out dialogue for my tik tok vids.

So, something I've seen fluctuating with popularity in the skeleharem fics is the isekai into Undertale trope. So, imagine that two friends, one completely familiar with Undertale and especially the skeleharem fandom (though he'll be attracted to a different group in the fic), and one with very little knowledge about the game thanks to the friend, get transmigrated to Undertale.

This is obviously a dream come true for Friend while OC is just there for the ride. As they get settled, some things happen that make Friend realize that maybe they're not in the best situation while OC is struggling to understand the dangers.

First, they're both Mages. Which was cool; until Friend realized ABO Dynamics apply for Mages and Monsters, and not the flexible kind he'd prefer. He's quick to find out their alignments; Friend's being Alpha (a relief to him), and OC's being Omega (something Friend immediately panicked over while she watched with confusion).

Second, they live in a monster neighborhood. Preferable, since there were a lot of hate crimes being committed against Mages as much as against Monsters. However, one of their neighbors are the skeletons. Which wouldn't be so bad, if Friend hadn't been given a dose of reality that a good portion had darker morals and were really manipulative. Granted, he had no idea if any of them had changed or were different from their depictions, but he didn't want to risk catching their attention regardless. Which is why, when he kept catching a few of them talking or interacting with OC, he always freaked and was protective and stuff. Making her confused and the skeletons feel all types of ways.

Third, and perhaps the worst, is that most of the skeletons have a couple girlfriends. This wouldn't really be a problem, if Friend didn't realize that they're the anti-harem toxic type girlfriends. And when he does, he tries to warn OC to stay away from the guys, but she doesn't understand why. Mainly because she's currently not interested and because the skeletons are approaching her, not the other way around.

Don't worry. OC wouldn't be a meek or shy or defenseless type despite being an Omega. She's just kinda blind to the dangers that a seasoned fan of Undertale would be familiar with. Friend would probably end up with a different character because although he read a bunch of skeleharem, he also felt more attracted to Grillby, Mettaton, and Napstablook. So he's more likely to end up with one of them if not all of them.

do you think that mettaton doesn't get as much attention as other characters? if so, why?

I think he gets a fair amount of attention compared to other characters (even if it isn't always good attention), but definitely not as much and not as good as he deserves. It has gotten way better with time, but still.

The main reason being that he was overshadowed by other characters and reduced to stereotypes very early on due to his past being hidden and easy to miss if you don't look for it (and a touch of bigotry too, ofc). Meanwhile, the rest of the main characters had their backstories/struggles intertwined with the main story, making people connect with and relate to Sans, Toriel or Undyne for example faster than Mettaton. All his struggles and everything that completes his character is either hidden (pacifist), an epilogue (neutral) or played as a joke (geno) in game. Him hiding his past and his struggles is very in character for him, but it kinda hindered his possibilities to get more of the fandom's attention.

And I say faster because the Undertale fandom grew scary fast and people were already passionate fans before the game was even released. So the first impression was the one that stuck with people before dissecting the game became the main pastime of the fandom. For example, it took a good while for people to realize that Mettaton wasn't actually a robot (or well, not fully, but you know what I mean). You can see that in early fics. People fell for the pretty mask and didn't care (or know) to dig (at first).

Of course, a bunch other people Did connect with and relate to Mettaton and love him A LOT and have made great and profound art about him in every form all these years, but maybe not as much as if his full story had been more at the front and center of the story. Who knows.

He's a very deep and interesting character that deserves to get way more attention and love and focus. He's not just a pretty face with a murderous personality, and thankfully there's a lot of people that see that too.

i have a personal strange history with infidget that started before i was even a sonic fan and it took me years to become a sonic fan after,,but essentially i remember as maybe a middle schooler i think,i had this oc,and she had her own phases throughout the years ive drawn her,,and one of those was an evil corruption phase mostly inspired by infinite's mask when i saw penny snapcube play sonic forces, theres a drawing in a old physical sketchbook somewhere of the design,,,

anyway despite not pursuing a sonic hyperfixation from that, i was on wattpad a lot and used infidget as a pairing that i could read yaoi about,since i kinda knew them from that video series i watched and also google images,and it was cool to me so,,i remember reading so so many infidget oneshots on wattpad, not even a sonic fan i just wanted yaoi of two characters i recognised,. absolutely no clue if this was before or after i lowkey realised i was trans to some wattpad mettaton x male!reader fics,ill have to find that sketchbook and the memories will unlock in visions,,

Fai's Fic Ramble: The GorseTale AU (bare basics)

Ever since roughly... 2017 I think, there been a single Undertale fanfic I've been tapping away at and though it's nowhere near done or even organised enough for me to think about posting chapter 1 on A03, I recently posted a spinoff fic related to it called Eight Coloured Picture about the deaths of all the fallen humans and how some monsters each time were effected by their passing, and well.

I wanna ramble about the main story that fic comes from for a bit!

So.

Working Title: 'Gorse, Blackthorn and Buttercups' I also call it GorseTale in my head for short since Gaijin Goombah's rather fun video on why Undertale's Golden Flowers are most likely Gorse was a HUGE inspiration for the fic back when I started out (it's er changed quiet a bit since then but I'm keeping the flower vibes because Chara likes them and I did way too much research into both practical and symbolic uses for plants in the Underground for this fic not to use at least some of it at some point XD).

Core premise: Story is a Slice of Life/Drama AU set around Frisk being born in the Underground and taken in by Toriel right around the time of 'Undertale canon' (for Undertale Yellow fans, roughly a year or so after Clover's death), and through a series of domino effects stemming from that, various monsters of the Underground are confronted with the flaws of both themselves and their kingdom, and as a result start putting in effort to try fixing things so the little human child they've become so attached to can actually live their life to the fullest without fear of being murdered just for being born a non monster.

Aka: Toriel and Sans experience the joys and terror of co-parenting a child who only survives past the age of 3 because they have phenomenal cosmic power. Papyrus discovers the Royal Guard is NOT in fact something he wants to join (and accidentally becomes politically active in an effort to right by his new nibbling). Undyne takes some time to really rethink her career path and motives. Alphys somehow manages to turn former mistakes into miracles (oh and cures death maybe). Mettaton learns to take time off and share the spotlight, and finally King Asgore gets a surprising amount of hope in encouraging peaceful rebellion against his own accidental dictatorship.

Main cast: Rotates a bit since every major monster (and Flowey) matters in this and who's most in focus depends on the exact arc but Toriel, Sans, Papyrus, Chara and Frisk are the ones who I have the most planned scenes for since well, they're where the 'domino effect' starts.

Ships: Fic is pretty gen for the most part but leaning Undyne/Alphys, Papyrus/Mettaton (who knew all Paps needed to become popular was to openly try convincing monster kind that killing all the humans is wrong in front of a very specific underground star XD), and some very very very slowburn Sans/Toriel (is teased throughout the story because Sans IS Frisk's other parent Sans just means 'Dad' in Frisk speak and I find various Monsters' "Wait Sans has a kid- Wait Sans is married?!" reactions hilarious (Paps giving 'context' to why he suddenly has a nibbling to Undyne especially) but actual, real Soriel doesn't happen until near the very end because Toriel is Not Ok, Sans leans AroAce/Demi and both agree that while the odd kiss, hug or 'real talk' is fine neither up for anything more than that right now. Also Toriel has yet to get a formal divorce and er, she can't even think of him for much of the fic without wanting to set him on fire so... Yeah). Also considering Mad Mewmew/Asgore (because funny but also oddly sweet), and Mettaton trying to get over a crush on Alphys at the start (due to Mettaton's Winter Alarmclock dialogue reframing all of Mettaton's actions in canon in a whole newlight for me), but for the most part romance really isn't a focus.

Things to set it apart from every other 'Frisk grows up in the Underground' fanfic:

A LOT of worldbuilding focus on stuff how monsters get food and materials.

Toriel teaching everyone how Monster society was before the War vs now (aka lots of cultural trauma themes here).

More emphasis on how little Monster society these days really knows about things they really should given their Kingdom's plans.

Sans 'timeline trauma' getting tossed out the window for joining Toriel in 'worried parent' stress (hard to be upset about LOADS when they're specifically stopping a toddler you love from getting murdered).

Papyrus accidentally making everything better just because for the sake of his nibblet he can't back down.

FLOWER SYMBOLISM AND DISCUSSING THE UNDERGROUND'S VERY IMPORTANT PLANT LIFE!

Alphys not being fired post Amalgamite reveal making her realize she has in fact actually kinda created the cure for death (by 'Falling Down') or at the very least is only maybe three steps away from that and actually works on that alongside a bunch of other stuff with other scientists because working alone sucked.

Lots of focus on the humans who fell before Frisk because their lives mattered! and also the Blue Soul was Kris because damn if I don't feel the need to really hammer in Toriel's trauma caused by Asgore here

NarraChara and Napstablook being ghost buddies =D they suck at it but Chara will take literally anyone who can hear them for company and Napstablook feels bad about that

Snowdin being secretly a hub of human sympathisers! (None of them knew they weren't the only ones).

MONSTER RADIO and ANIME/WESTERNS ON TV!

Tems and the Riverperson mattering while still being true to their very weird selves!!!

Asgore learning that he DOES in fact have a lot of influence and that maybe, juuust maybe, that his screw ups were worse for his Kingdom than he already thought (don't worry Asgore fans, despite my having to write a lot of Asgore grr due to Toriel being a major character, saving him and showing how much he loves his people is a major goal of mine <3). He still f%cked up majorly though XD

Frisk dealing with, well, the stress of growing up in a place that says their death would make everyone (except their immediate loved ones) happy and constantly having to live in hiding/disguise...

Flowey being a murderous little shit but also not having reset power and both Frisk and Chara in his life again.

Undertale Yellow and Deltarune characters! Who probably won't be in focus a lot but they've helped me out a ton for fleshing the out my setting so I will 100% be giving them at least a little screen time to make up for that (like Amalgamate Kanako playing with Frisk, and Martlet and Noelle being VERY interesting in Papyrus's 'Lets not kill the humans' movement for reasons our main characters will eventually learn <3).

Oh and a huge amount of 'Unseen in game' areas I made for the Underground which include:

SnowDen: a 'town' of Dog and Rabbit made tunnels underneath the ENTIRE Snowdin region (connects to every dog sentry post, the 'Toby Fox secret area' and the 'very efficiently laid out' travel tunnels seen in canon Undertale). Generally requires those living there to get through given how winding and confusing the tunnels can get (all guideposts are puzzles made with scent markers...).

TooHot: basically a 'lethal lava land' housing district for fire monsters below general Hotland. Predates the Wat and is too hot for most non fire monsters to go anywhere near (the current name was given by Asgore though).

Cliffstop: a 'thin' vertical crevice monsters in New Home unearthed a while back that goes from from all the way to the very top of Mt Ebott down to the dark of the Abyss below (locals there call the top of the area Clifftop and the lowest safe for travel Cliffdrop). Gets a fair bit of sun and has flying room so it's popular with plant and flying monsters but the cliffs are very unstable so the bottom is covered in rope nets to prevent accidents. Most puzzles about the place are moving rope bridges, loading up vertical conveyer belts with the correct weights and 'light and mirror' puzzles.

Riverfolk Waterway and True Tem Village: settlements hidden deep within Waterfall's 'unreachable in canon' winding waterways. The former is a small inlet where 'Riverfolk' monsters like the Riverperson have a small collection of boathouses they dock at, and the later is exactly what is sounds like, with the 'Temmie Village' we see in canon being merely a Temmie trading outpost. Can accessed only by Riverperson boat or the Temmie's secret tunnels and is home to all sorts of cool things like the Temmie 'Colleg' and 'DEEP HISTORY mUSEEum'~ XD

WebbInn 'the Spider district': Mostly a giant communal spider web hanging Hotland's ceiling but also connected to a tunnel that goes up near Mt Ebbot's peak (the spiders have been digging upwards in hopes of getting a 'sunspot' they can use to advertise their 'sweet little town' to tourists). Has a... Very distinctive culture compared to the rest of the Underground and the 'puzzles' there tend towards being 'social' in nature (aka fey logic games where how you speak and act gets you directed every which way).

Starlite Strip: A little connecting area right underneath the path/cliff Monster Kid and Frisk see the castle while travelling through Waterfall in Undertale Canon. Not a big settlement on its own but something of a trading hub for monsters from New Home and the surrounding areas in Waterfall to buy and sell goods (also has a LOT of Royal Guard presence which is why absolutely no one in Undertale recommends it to the very human Frisk). Very sparkly but in a gentle 'crystals, glowing water and fire flies' kinda way.

And... Yeah. Wanna post a full script of what I've got planned so far but this post is already massive so will do that in a bit.

Will say though that the general ending plan for this fic arguably goes full fix fic with:

12-14 year old Frisk comes out as human publicly and goes through the entire Underground arguing their case (something the Underground has been publicly debating for the last 10 years or so thanks to a very motivated Papyrus and a wanting more ratings + genuinely interested Mettaton).

Undyne attempts to kill them but well, she's only going all out because she and Paps had a deal about this (he vowed that he'd defend any innocent human from her killing them so she could still go all out at her job) and Frisk knows that.

Mettaton gets to do THE biggest and most historically important interview in the Underground's history.

Asgore declares that the Underground will try out this whole 'everyone in the kingdom votes' thing on both the upcoming war and how they will treat humans living here because he wants to make sure he's doing what his people want (Mettaton asks what Asgore will vote but Asgore, finally realizing his own influence, refuses to say).

Asgore and Frisk spend a nice, if slightly nervously time together drinking tea and talking about the future while the votes are being counted. (Toriel and others may join them but mostly this is Asgore getting to know... the last of Toriel's adopted children she told him about the others when she asked for a divorce).

Monsters choose wisely because for all this fic is 'Monsters are flawed too!' they are good people and I want to make that clear <3

Cue Frisk publically trying to help break the barrier while being very alive...

Flowey pulling a 'God of Hyper Death' except well, he, Frisk and Chara maaay have discussed a bit of this beforehand (Flowey did want the souls and this would get him them), so er, the fight might be a touch more mixed with genuine anger and playfulness. Note: Still working out the exacts.

The human SOULs get brought back to life as monsters while Flowey gets a SOUL of his own and Chara gets enough magical matter to be visible to people other than Frisk (it required less waste of the accumulated magic, the soul of an additional human another girl falling into the Ruins was what got Frisk deciding to come out actually, the kids using a bunch of Alphys' furthered research on the interplay between Determination, matter and Dust, and breaking down the dead humans' bodies for enough 'compatible matter' to work with, and the destruction and repurposing of the Barrier but hey! Back to life! Or arguably Chara's case an upgrade to proper ghost-hood). Oh and the Amalgamates that want it are safely separated but not sure if that's a 'before no' thing or a 'here in this big finale' thing~ XD

A fell AU (nameless) where Asgore crafted a crueler underground through RESETs to face the no mercy human only for Chara to get reincarnated first to stop the bullshit (also flowey AND UNDYNE get to be heroes due to the whole swap from protagonist to antagonist and vice versa) (also there's Doc, the world's best evil woman who put metal claws on her real claws like scourge from warrior cats and thinks it makes her cool and intimidating)

A Pokemon crossover AU (tentatively named Your Courage Will Pull Us Through) where monsters are the missing evolutionary link between humans and Pokemon and the evil Team SOUL wants to imprison them in pokeballs

A traveller crossover AU aka shlock Undertale (tentatively named Voyages of the Starship Ebott) where monsters have lost their home planet and been driven out of their star system by the evil Third Imperium. To find it and bring it back to where it belongs, an ancient and powerful monster starship has set out on a mission bearing the estranged, tentatively allied King and Queen of monsters, two psionically skilled skeletons, a monster supersoldier created by the Imperium and on the run after stealing herself from the unethical Project DT (she also spent some time finding herself with the space wolf furry antifa pirates), a once-normal scientist who got in over her head spying on Project DT, a robotic galaxywide social media influencer who secretly isn't a sapient AI, and a normal human kid who can talk to ghosts. The ghosts have been muttering the name of a forgotten star in a barren, distant, system, but can the TMS Ebott make it across a galaxy at war to find out what waits in orbit around Chara? An alphynecentric magical girl AU based on a genderqueer reinterpretation of genre classics like Sailor Moon. When the famous magical girl known as Girl Indigo falls from the sky with a ruined eye, her ordinary high school classmate takes up the responsibility of taking her place while she heals. With a magical dragon mask that lets her transform into Girl Golden, Alphys learns on the fly how to be a magical girl from her hero, while Undyne just might find out what it's like to be a normal high schooler with a crush on the smartest girl in school... (Also Papyrus is a genderqueer magical girl, Asriel is an evil magical girl, and Chara Frisk and Kris are the cutest little ominous shapeshifting animal guides youve ever seen.)

A storyshift-at-home AU (tentatively titled Poemshift) with slightly different swaps (instead of Mettaton and Napstablook being the fallen children, Undyne and Alphys are and there's a secondary set of swaps that includes a bunch of ghosts and minibosses and shopkeepers and stuff that I haven't quite decided on yet) (also Toriel is a scientist and Asgore a guard, why would it be the other way around). No idea really what to say about this one as it's my newest concept but im like the ceo of swapping characters so you have to trust me anyway

A SBURB AU (SCAVE) basically everyone's a kickass god of mental issues and they have anime battles with chess guys. what do you want from me. don't look at me. we're scraping the bottom of the barrel. go home

72. What’s your favorite writing compliment you’ve gotten?

probably the first very long comment I got on Walls, on chapter 20 in which Mettaton and Devon start dating. I can't even really describe it, I'll just post a screenshot

73. What do you tend to get complimented on the most about your writing?

I think mostly the style, which surprises me because I've never felt it's really anything special. also, the way I handle tougher topics like abuse and mental health.

75. Is there a particular fic that readers gravitated towards that you didn’t expect?

yes, actually, though it's not any of my undertale fanfics. my second most popular long-form fanfic is the one I started for OK KO Let's Be Heroes a few years ago. even though it's only got 2 chapters, it's amassed almost 150 kudos. obviously it's not got nearly the stats that Walls has, it's impressive to me, since OK KO's been over for several years now.

77. Why do you enjoy writing fanfiction?

well, there's lots of reasons, but I love being able to just post what I write without having to jump through the hoops of traditional publishing and all that. I also like being able to write stories that speak to myself and to others using characters we already know and love. and ngl, the near-immediate positive feedback is definitely nice. lol.

My brother introduced me to this text generator and i’ve been using it to get little stories

And obviously, i made it write a fan fic abt papyrus going on a date

So it being written very well, it’s explaining how papyrus gets ready for the date (with the help of mettaton-) and then his date is at the door!

And while it probably sounds way more dramatic over the form of text, it was surprising to me even if it was randomly generated-

The date was Alphys.

It briefly talks about the date and then it says they’re going on another.

Surprising, to say the least, but not unwelcome

Kinktober 2023 Day 31: Free Day

This fic concept is near and dear to my heart, as being with a trans partner and being allowed to explore my feminine side is really meaningful! Perhaps Love - Update

Hi y’all! I’m just sending a small life update to let you know that “Perhaps Love” is not discontinued or even, really, on hiatus.

My partner and I bought a house in January, and we literally move out of our rental tomorrow. Squish, dog, me, and spouse. So, things have just been stressful lately. It has been easier to focus on short one-shots than the behemoth that is Perhaps Love.

As if moving isn’t enough, I auditioned for 25+ theaters in my area and have another similar sized audition in literally one week.

So, your boy is tired af.

The next chapter is heavily lore focused as well as very MTT backstory driven that, may or may not, also be a little bit Pip backstory driven. ;)

It also sets up the next several parts of the story and, as such, I’ve been changing small things here there and everywhere for the last several weeks.

So, Papyton and “Perhaps Love” still has my heart. I’m just exhausted. XD

That said, the draft of the next chapter is 99.9% complete. I just need to edit. (And, I’m likely going to take my time to do so because I’m being artsy this time.)

If it’s any consolation to those waiting in patience, my spouse, also my beta, said this is one of the most beautiful chapters in the fic so far. So, take that as you will.

For folks who love Papyton, and haven’t jumped in, heed the tags, but enjoy if you want!

Incredibly tempted to write a Papy/ton fic where Mettaton’s fans force him and Papyrus to date and eventually get married. And Mettaton HATES it. He tries to make it work the best he can, by having them live apart, but his fans say no and force them to live together. So he tries to do what they want while also making this work as well as possible. His fans say he isn’t trying hard enough, even though he’s trying the best he can. He starts to hate his fans, and especially his marriage since that’s what his fans stand for. He becomes horribly abusive to Papyrus, and his fans start to claim that he’s an awful person, he should have tried harder and it wouldn’t have ended up like this, that they had nothing to do with Mettaton’s downward’s spiral. Eventually Sans has to step in and say that it IS their fault. They should never have forced this marriage, and CERTAINLY not have pressured Mettaton to live with Papyrus and act exactly how they wanted, because all of it was clearly causing Mettaton extreme distress, and anyone with half a brain could have seen this coming a mile away. Yes, it is partially Mettaton’s fault for directing his anger in the wrong direction, but if his fans had never pressured him it wouldn’t have gotten to that point

Toby Fox really could have just introduced us to an egotistical robot superstar and a shy introverted ghost who DJs sometimes and called it a day but he really went beyond that to link these two seemingly random characters together with a touching yet tragic backstory of lost familial ties, the call to fame and the search for your true identity.

I can never grow tired of this game haha
