i would love to share them!! the tldr is i thought it was pretty good (although not great), had some really stellar character work and performances and that masked the fact that the plot was made of tissue paper

deeper thoughts below the cut - it's spoiler-lite but not spoiler-free

the true highlight was the character work and performances, ESPECIALLY pom klementieff & hayley atwell, but simon pegg did a really fucking good job too. really enjoyed esai morales as well. i just think everyone did a really stellar job and made the most of this movie

that being said it was both too long and too slow. the action sequences felt a bit bloated, everything moved at a snail's pace, i thought that opening sequence on the sevestapol would NEVER end.

i continue to be a really big fan of mcquarrie's characterization of ethan - someone i follow on letterboxd said that it felt a little too "mask-off scientologist" and i can see that but i also don't agree, i think that ethan is just a really aggressively devoted dude and tom c being a freak fits well with that

one of the biggest problems i had was The Choice because i don't think it's an actual choice as such (death, prison, or The Choice isn't really a choice) AND i think it's lazy to retcon that everyone has the same backstory. i also don't really love the maria thing i think it's boring but what can you do. and my other big thing is i just think the entity sucks as a villain i think it's boring and dumb but whatever

uhhhh what else. my man lorne balfe SLAYED that score. pom klementieff wins the best dressed award. editing was super weird although i did enjoy all the montages. the sequence of ethan running to try to get to grace and ilsa is literally all time. every time ethan and ilsa interacted it caused my insides to melt into goop.
