Let's briefly discuss #hydration post-training! You should be drinking some kind of fluids before and during your training time as is. But fluid intake post-training is more crucial. Aside from drinking 8 glasses of water daily, try to drink anywhere between 16 to 24 oz of water for every pound lost during exercise. Please keep in mind that this is a general rule of thumb and therefore, might be unnecessary for some of you. But if your training is intense enough, this is what you'd want to shoot for. Do you train three times a week or more? Do you have a hectic schedule? Now matter what your week is comprised of, always make sure to REST. I'm not even referring to the idea of sleeping between 7-9 hours. Just take a day and RELAX. I don't care if you're just sitting around like I'm doing here in this picture. You can lounge in bed for a few extra hours while doing light work or even just watching your favorite TV show. These are just a few examples. Point is, if you're body is telling you that it needs to stop, do yourself a favor and listen. Recovery is key to a long life filled with #physicalhealth and #emotionalhealth. Not too bad, considering I haven't committed to any TRUE lifting since December. But here's a thought: do you have any kind of #injury, whether it be a form of #tendonitis, #tendonopathy, etc? You still can lift if you wish; you'll simply have to work around the injury while it's healing. That's all. Since I've been back at the gym, whether it be @strongandshapely or @goldsgym.mw, I've completely changed my training to a more machine oriented, #bodybuilding friendly approach. I'm using #dumbbells and a few key #selfmyofascialrelease tools when working on my #golferselbow. And the, for the sake of #stabilization, I'm using multiple different machines in one big #giantset to get on and out of the gym within an hour max. As I begin to have an easier time with juggling two jobs, I've taught myself to MAXIMIZE my time in the gym in order to continue to accomplish those goals, all while setting up my own future. Don't be afraid to become uncomfortable. Yes, it'll be stressful at first. But keep it going, no matter.how.stressed you become and you'll adjust accordingly - and without even realizing it. Hey personal trainers! Let's have a round discussion! My client intake has increased at a faster rate than I ever could have imagined and, between that and working another job, it can get very tiring. But there are moments that remind me why I chose this lifestyle. For example! A client called me up to cancel on Thursday because he wasn't going to be home on time. I was already in his vicinity and I had another client in that area. So I thought on my feet (or at the wheel) and offered to train him later. The choice would be his. He called me back up and agreed to the later time, so long as I knew it had to be a short session. Challenge accepted! I shortened and MAXIMIZED his workout time, meaning his training may have been brief, but it still intense. He thanked me after we finished, telling me that still training was worth it for him. That, as trainer, meant the world to me. It meant everything to me. It made me proud to do what I do, to know I made an impact on someone. So what is it about the job that makes YOU proud to train people, to make the sacrifices you probably have to make in order to be successful? Was it a particular event? Was it something someone said? Having problems learning how to #squat? Knees hurt? Can't seem to initiate the movement with your #hips? Squatting on to a chair might been the #modality you need.
It's come to attention, especially as of late, that some simply aren't able to see the correlation between squatting and sitting. So, depending on the client, I'll tell him to squat to a chair WITHOUT ACTUALLY SITTING, and then simply ascend back to the starting position.
Simply stand in front of a chair, feet shoulder width apart or more, if needed. Set your hips back and the knees will follow. Once your #glutes touch the chair, immediately rise back up. And always remember to BRACE before initiating the movement.
Once you've mastered this #movementpatterns, try performing a #gobletsquats if you have a dumbbell available.
