There are plenty of different versions of lovingkindness meditation out there, and this is just one of them! This practice has been invaluable to me over the past few years when I need a few minutes to slow down, widen my perspective, and drum up extra love. Let me know how it goes for you!

"God's loving kindness and tender mercies are there, sometimes obscured by life's brambles, but always moving before us, leading the way."

Today, on this Transgender Day of Remembrance, I remember and honor the trans people who have passed on, while sending love, compassion, strength, and bravery to my trans siblings here on Earth.
May every single trans person live with authenticity, and know that the universe is complete because of them. May every single trans person feel loved, today and every day.

My altar set up for Trans Day of Remembrance.
The iPad is acting as a digital photo frame, playing a slideshow of trans people (some I knew personally, some I did not) who have passed on. Pictured is Venus Xtravaganza. Also included on the slideshow are Leelah Alcorn, Blake Brockington, and Brandon Teena, among two people whom I am blessed to have known: Theo and Felix.

This is the very nature of life. No one in this world experiences only pleasure and no pain, and no one experiences only gain and no loss.
When we open to this truth, we discover that there is no need to hold on or to push away. Rather than trying to control what can never be controlled, we can find a sense of security in being able to meet what is actually happening.
This is allowing for the mystery of things: not judging but rather cultivating a balance of mind that can receive what is happening, whatever it is.
This acceptance is the source of our safety and confidence.

Let Not the Wise Boast in their Wisdom

23 Thus saith the Lord, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, Neither let the mighty man glory in his might, Let not the rich man glory in his riches:
24 But let him that glorieth glory in this, That he understandeth and knoweth me, That I am the Lord which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: For in these things I delight, saith the Lord. — Jeremiah 9:23-24 | King James Version (KJV) The King James Version Bible is in the public domain Cross References: Exodus 34:6-7; 1 Kings 20:10-11; Job 31:24-25; Psalm 20:7; Psalm 34:2; 1 Corinthians 1:31; 2 Corinthians 10:17; Galatians 6:14; Philippians 3:8; Philippians 3:10

Continue practicing until you see yourself
in the cruelest person on Earth,
in the child starving,
In the political prisoner.
Practice until you recognize yourself
in every person in the supermarket,
on the street corner,
in a concentration camp,
on a leaf,
in a dewdrop.
Meditate until you see yourself
in a speck of dust,
In a distant galaxy.
See and listen with the whole of your being.
If you are fully present,
the rain of Dharma will fully water
the deepest seeds in your consciousness,
and tomorrow,
while you are washing the dishes
or looking at the blue sky.
That seed will spring forth,
and love and understanding,
Will appear as a beautiful flower.
(Thich Nhat Hanh)
