to parents

My parents were almost as kind and accepting as any lgbtq-kid could wish for. When I came out as non-binary, my mom gave me a hug and my dad a pat on the back. That however did not mean they started using the right pronouns, or later when I told them about a new name that I wanted to try out, then did not call me that. There was never really rejection/unacceptability, but rather a lack of awareness and the actions that came with it, sometimes felt like rejection.

For my generation, when you tell someone about a new name, the next obviously logical step is for them to start calling you by that name, it’s like a built in habit. But not with my parents, like i said, there was just a lack of awareness and knowledge and so they just continued referring to me by my old name. Only when I explicitly told them that I wanted to be called by this new name, they actually started using it. Though my father didn’t at first, his reasoning being ‘but she also listens to her old name, so why should I?’ Now that feels like rejection. But that was just from the lack of awareness, he didn’t not realise how important it was for trans people so see the new name get accepted (and with that, eventually being used as well) 

So to parents, regardless of the fact if your child is out, or part of the lgbtq-community, please educate yourself. Get some basic knowledge groundwork so to speak and know the meaning of ‘standard’ lgbtq words like homosexual/heterosexual/bisexual and cisgender/transgender.’ My parents didn’t even know what transgender meant precisely, let alone the meaning of a more specific term such as non-binary, that alone adds a whole new layer of difficulty, that combined with that everyone expresses their label(s) in a different way, like I’m a very masculine non-binary person whilst others are more feminine or more androgynous. 

My parents didn’t understand me, they still don’t understand and I don’t think they ever fully will because cause this is such a unique, personal experience

(Even as fellow non-binary/trans person, you will probably understand out of everyone but still it’s slightly different from person to person) but they understood even less because of that lack of awareness and knowledge. So to parents, please educate yourself on themes like these as they are becoming more prevalent in todays society, keep up with those things, like one would keep up the news. 

There will I think always be this gap of understanding between generations, later in life I might find myself in a similar position like my parents now, but I hope at least that with every generation, the previous one will be outfitted with more tools to gain understanding and knowledge and have the knowledge lead to acceptance. Because giving a hug or a pat on the back isn’t enough, with acceptance must come action.

may i present to you what i read during zoom classes  

up the ivy- I was… I am just so, so tired. Tired of being trapped in here, of my mind not handling the mental strain, of the unbearable amount of haunting thoughts. What else was I supposed to do?

or Newt’s thoughts after he jumped in 1st person

Towards Something- Thomas doesn't need a reason to run, he needs a reason to stop. He needs closure. He needs to see 3 lost friends one last time.

or what Thomas would say to those he lost

Last Wish- “I don’t want to become one of them, Minho, and I sure as hell don’t want you to see it,” Newt kept his voice low, as if it hurt to speak louder.

or Newt give his final note to Minho instead of Thomas on the berg

on my knees and out of luck- Thomas reads Newt’s note before he and Minho get to the Crank Palace and decides to shoot him right then and there. And, well, Minho’s not just gonna stand and watch Thomas kill Newt.

I Will Follow- For a second, Newt was drowning in concrete; then, he was in the Maze, surrounded by openness and darkness. He whipped his head around to watch the Door close with a final, resounding crack, morphing almost seamlessly into wall. There would be no way out until the morning.

antiseptic and tired- Every night, without fail, he relives it. And every morning, without fail, he wakes up in a sweat, biting his tongue to hold back a scream. It never gets any less terrifying, but as soon as his brain registers that the world isn’t on fire, he’s up and running.

Even After Death We’ll Be With You- Thomas dies, little does he know there is more beyond.

all i wanted was newt- Looking back on all they have lost, they had a ton of deaths but no burials. Thomas couldn't stand the idea of Newt being just another casualty - a sorry sap who wasn't lucky enough to see the light at the end of the tunnel. A boy who never got out of the maze. No, Thomas wouldn't let it happen. None of this would be possible without Newt and everyone needed to know that.

or Thomas wants to go back to the last city for Newt’s body

No Grave Can Hold My Body Down- This picks up mid-way through the TDC movie shortly after they rescue Minho, diverging from canon slightly to provide the ending that we wanted. The worst sort of tragedies are the ones that could have been prevented if only a few decisions were made differently, Thomas makes a few different choices and would do anything to save his best friend before he succumbs to the flare. Title comes from Work Song by Hozier.

How To Save Your Best Friend (and also maybe the world)- A rewrite of page 250

You Deserve To Be Happy- Thomas tries his hardest to honour his best friend's wishes, but reminders of his loss are stacked in every nook and cranny. Simple words push him over the edge and being happy seems too far off to ever be accomplished.

Haven of Paradise- The Flare is a parasitic disease. It needs a host to live. So what really happens when a Crank dies? No one ever sticks around long enough to find out. But what if... someone did?

or Newt is alive and needs to find a way to reunite with his friends.

For Minho- Oneshot in which Minho is killed in the WCKED attack on The Right Arm and Thomas and Newt aren't handling it too well.

the moment words don’t reach- In which Thomas falls apart in grief after seeing Newt and Minho doing the same, all of them reeling from the devastating toll escaping the maze took on them.

or the missing scene we all needed after they all got hauled into the helicopter after escaping the maze.

All I Can Do Is Keep Breathing- Newt watches in shock as the doors to the Maze close, trapping the greenie and his two best friends inside. He wonders if he'll be able to hear their screams when the Grievers catch up to them. The thought is strangely comforting.

The immunes were celebrating Christmas. Again, something Minho and Thomas remembered as a thing, but had no memories of it. While everyone was having a big party together, both boys had wanted to be alone, just the two of them. Sometimes, it was a bit overwhelming to be around so many people.

The next second, Thomas had pulled his look and Minho had discovered that his hand was obediently handing the precious orange to Thomas, who stopped his pout immediately and ate the orange.

Minho had stared, dumbfounded, at the cute boy who had juice smeared all over his face. Minho was weak for Thomas, apparently. He questioned why Thomas didn't just use that look on Alby when he wanted to become a runner. It couldn't just be Minho who succumbed to Thomas' spell...or was it?

Okay, so I don't usually rec fics, even though I probably should since there are some really good ones out there, but if there was ever a fic that needed to be recced it's this one. I don't think there's one thing that I don't like about this story, I can safely say that it's my favorite Newtmas fic ever written. 

The format is initially confusing but I actually ended up loving it by the end. I loved the characterization of everyone but most especially for Newt and Thomas. The author somehow pulls off making them so soft and adorable while with each other but still makes them badass as hell and it never seems forced or cheesy, which is something I dislike in fics. Newt and Thomas come off perfectly as two teenage boys falling in love while in a apocalyptic world. I want to create some kind of fanfiction award to give solely to this author. I can't recommend this fic enough.

this fic!!!!!!!!! i read this SO long ago but its pretty much. newt ends up being Saved after thomas kills him and they bring him into paradise to try to cure him but!!! there are difficulties!!! newt doesnt wnna be cured!!!! and its just. thomas and minho and him Workign Thru That and i honestly dont remember much plot beyond that but i do remember it being super well written, + tridecaphilia is SO good, esp at multichap fics and plot stuff so this will not disappoint

commentary: i don't usually seek out minewt fics, but i like them once they find their way to me. and this one has definitely stayed with me.

what made me like this fic: dear god. that's hard to put into words without giving the story away. let me instead focus on the feelings i had while and after reading this fic: it's incredible how the author managed to write something where you feel the despair of the characters as though it was your own, where the author takes your heart to the breaking point and beyond it, and then you still manage to grieve and heal. It left me feeling good, although (or maybe even because?) I was sobbing freely by the end of the fic.

and I think that's what good angsty fics do: they allow you to explore ranges of emotions that hurt, they take you to places so dark you hope you'll never have to go there yourself, where you suffer and grieve, but you'll come out feeling better on the other end of it. and i think that's because sadness is there to help us process stuff.

when you grieve for something, it lets you feel how much it means.

if there was no grief in the world, nothing would ever matter.

my commentary: i didn‘t look for this, but liked it very much when i found it. i‘ve never looked for teresa x minho specifically, so i don‘t have any other fics to add.

what made me like the fic: i especially loved the characterization in this fic, it‘s bookverse (which is rare enough as it is), and teresa and minho feel wonderfully in character. it also has everything else i love: conflict and slow healing with time, slowly falling for each other without planning on doing so, suddenly realising you‘re in love. and bonding over books - i mean yeah, can‘t get more perfect than that.

Tmr fic recs, category: angst but i still liked it

- aka when you need a good cry

so i usually don‘t read angst because it has the potential to affect me really badly. (what i especially could never, never read is unrequited love. that‘s just too sad, period.) but from time to time i will stumble over an angsty fic that yes, is angsty, but that is so in a beautiful way, and leaves me feeling sad but good. if you get what i mean? the fics presented under that header all fall into that category.

summary: it‘s a safe haven fic from brenda‘s POV that follows thomas and minho. we don‘t see it explicitly, but it‘s clear that they are together. it‘s also beautifully implied how newt was the third part of their equation that they are never going to forget.

commentary: i have only found sad thominewt fics until now, but for some reason i love nearly all of them. - if you like thominewt and have any recommendations for me please don‘t hesitate to dm/reblog/comment.

what made me like this fic: i would say that the poetic language of it was definitely a big part of it. we‘re transported to the safe haven in a beautiful and atmospheric way. i also liked brenda‘s pov a lot: it gives us a detached sense of what is going on, but it seems that it‘s exactly that distance which allows us to appreciate what thomas and minho are going through. and as i said it made me sad, but in a good way. that‘s really all i can say about it. would definitely recommend! i know that‘s the point of this whole thing but i couldn‘t resist saying it again
