Optimizing Space for Functionality
Tumblr media
A fundamental principle in design which epitomizes the mantra "form follows function" is optimizing space for functionality. This concept underscores the idea that the design of a space should prioritize its intended purpose and usability above all else.
Implementation
In practice, this means carefully considering how every inch of space is utilized to enhance the overall functionality and efficiency of a design. This applies in many domains which may include;
Office furniture
Physical environment, such as a home or collaborative workspace
Digital interfaces, such as a website or app
What is Space Optimization?
Optimizing space involves thoughtful planning and strategic allocation of resources to support the intended activities and user interactions. By adhering to the principle of form follows function, interior designers can create environments looking aesthetically pleasing yet still facilitating;
Seamless workflows.
Intuitive navigation.
Enhanced user experiences.
This can be focused on;
Minimizing clutter
Organizing content hierarchically
Maximizing accessibility
Surely, optimizing space for functionality ensures that every element serves a purpose and contributes to the overall success of the design.

quick drawing of sunny!! his powers are light based and he can use bursts of speed to tackle his opponents (think of asami's powers in yj) so his design incorporates football, rollerblading, and runner's gear!

I tripped onto an article today about "10 things minimalists don't buy", And as someone who loves STUFF but also considers the STUFF, I clicked on it to see if there was anything I could take away from it.
NOPE.
Just a long list of "Minimalists are better than you because they would rather have a vase of flowers than knicknacks and memories rather than vacation momentos."
But the two things that really got me were the following statements:
Minimalists shop second hand because fast fashion BAD and they don't have a "month's worth of jeans."
Minimalists CAREFULLY SELECT everything they have in their homes.
Which, to point 1) who the fuck has the implied 30 pairs of jeans and how does that have jack shit to do with buying or not buying second hand.
And to point 2) While I admit to the sin (according this this article) of sometimes impulse buying, I promise you most of what I buy is shit I know I won't get bored with. Like, you want a single framed photo print on your wall? Cool. I have a five-set of pokemon in different drink glasses, and that's just one part of my giant art collection.
It was just the TONE, you know. The whole "oh, preferring LESS stuff means I'm BETTER than people who like MORE stuff."
Or, wild idea: Just like your stuff. Just like your fucking stuff. I like my stuff. I LOVE my stuff. That's the point of getting to choose your stuff.

I understand the sentiment behind a post I saw recently about having a tidy and cleansed space before invoking a deity, I genuinely do, but also it triggered something deep within and now trying to tidy up feels more like a threat on my life than it already did and I am deeply afraid of trying to clean up because it won't ever be enough and I should be deeply ashamed of myself for clutter existing in my lived in space.

every time i see shit about how you should arrange your bedroom for best sleep hygiene or whatever, and it's stuff like "don't have yellow walls" and "don't have a lot of visual clutter" i always kind of think like... yeah these are probably good ideas but consider this: i sleep in the dark, with my glasses off and my eyes closed.
like... is a bunch of extra visual clutter REALLY going to affect my sleep when i literally can't see it at the times i'm trying to sleep??
