Friday, November 10: Ozzy Osbourne, "Believer"

R.I.P. Randy Rhoads (1956-1982), Lee Kerslake (1947-2020)

Over 40 years after his untimely passing, people still hypothesize about what Randy Rhoads would have accomplished had he not stepped onboard that miniplane.  A lot of that has to do with him dying so young, but there was also the fact that in the space of less than two years (not counting his time and albums with Quiet Riot) Rhoads emerged as a singular talent that was somehow both fully formed yet also still blossoming.  That fascinating dichotomy was especially apparent on Diary of a Madman: his riffs and solos were uniformly astounding, but he still sounded like he was on the cusp of something bigger.  “Believer” was one of those tunes that simultaneously adhered to and toyed with form- Rhoads’ primary riff and the overall pacing was a logical extension of Ozzy Osbourne’s past with Black Sabbath, but there was something distinct about the way he let that riff drag, and the spidery guitar lines in the verses told another story altogether.  There was a lot going on musically in the interplay between Rhoads, Bob Daisley and Lee Kerslake, so much so that even though Ozzy was placed very high in the mix (intrusively so in spots) and was the obvious focal point, in a lot of ways he was really just a passenger along for the ride.  And hanging over all of this was the vibe (even back then) that Rhoads was outgrowing the confines of the Blizzard of Ozz, which added to the general uneasy feeling “Believer” was intended to provoke.

i saw a video of it the other day and i cant stop thinking about the fuck plane they have at burning man. like its so stupid like it shouldnt even count for ”mile high club” like the real mile high experiences should exclusively happen in commercial airline bathrooms anyway not in private jets or miniplanes or whatever. but like apparently the burning man fuck plane is like….. not even a proper private jet, its like a mini plane where the two passangers are like literally 2 feet away from the two pilots the entire flight with no partition or anything and you have to get up at 5am to use it bc theres like a long line and everyone just gets their 15 minutes in the air like its soooo rutine like for them its absolutely sexless. not to even mention the grim reality of a bunch of uber rich silicon valley freaks using a private jet like 200 times a day just to have shit fail sex in the air right next to sweaty old guys like thats actively contributing to our immenent climate catastrophies. AND theyre making sex lame. its soooo stupid i cant stop thinking about it i hope they all get trench illness in the mud chaos this weekend and die. peace and lov ✌️

First test model for my Aeronautica Imperialis project. I used the turbodork colorshift paint Electrum for this model. This paint gives a beautiful greenish shift in the light. I'll be working on these planes mostly with airbrushing the basecoat colorshift, then going back with metallics for the details.
