Miraculous Ladybug is an interesting show. I feel like if I was younger I would eat this show up but I just can’t fully invest. That being said. Those kids deserve the world. Fanon Chloe is my favorite.

I’m weird though I like ship Alya/Adrien and Chloe/Adrien and Luka/Chloe, Chloe/Marinette more than I ship Marinette/Adrien.

Out of the love square I’m in the minority I ship Ladrien most of all even though it’s like the least likely to work.

Marichat is just so cliche and Adrienette is very cutesy but oh so basic

Hey Jenna! Thank you for your help with finding fics to read! I'd like to know your opinion about smut fics. The ML fandom seems to be divided, a part of the fandom is strongly against any smut. Is it really inappropriate to write and read smut?

Anon, I was so entertained to get this ask.

Not only am I very much in favour of smut fics, I even write them myself!

But you are correct that the fandom is divided on this in a way I haven't really seen in any of my previous fandoms. For most of my extremely lengthy time in fandom, I've found smut to be much more prevalent. I got my start in Buffy fandom when I was 14 years old and when I discovered "NC-17" fics (as we called them then), well, I didn't have much interest in reading anything else.

Now, some people are going to read that I was a 14 year old reading explicit depictions of sex and they're going to clutch their pearls.

I think that's ridiculous.

I think that written fiction is a wonderful and SAFE way for people (even, no ESPECIALLY minors) to explore things that they're interested in or curious about before actually engaging with those things. And, especially in the case of sex, I certainly think it's a lot better than many of the alternatives like porn or trying things before you're ready. A lot of people will engage in sexual acts before people think they're old enough to read about those same acts and I think that's ridiculous.

I'm now old and married with kids of my own and I have absolutely no regrets or qualms about my early foray into smutty fic. Honestly, I don't even regret my TERRIBLE attempts at writing my own then because they were learning experiences.

I think that this fandom generally being a lot younger is part of the lack of smutty content, and that's okay. I'm certainly not suggesting that fans who are not interested in or not comfortable with that kind of content should seek it out. That's part of why I always make sure to put the M and E rated fics at the end of my rec lists under a warning. (But I only state minors should "beware" and not that they can't read them because I'm not actually against minors reading smut if they want to and can handle it.)

But I do want to push back against this idea that sex is somehow different than any of the other things that humans can do with our bodies, this idea that there's any kind of value or morality attached to it. I know this fandom likes to use "sin" to refer to smut, but I specifically don't do that because I think it's harmful. Some of the people using it may be joking or tongue in cheek, but I think these ideas can hurt people, make them feel guilty about their natural desires or the consensual behaviour they engage in.

People touching each other's bodies to make each other feel good isn't inappropriate, as long as everyone's consenting. People reading about this or writing about it isn't inappropriate either.

It's just sex.

Anyway, you didn't ask for recs, but I'm going to throw some on here anyway (jumping my rec list queue to boot!) because the smut writers in this fandom are amazing and I appreciate them so, so much! Frankly, I wish there was more 😘

The Marichat hate is sometimes just as bad as some of the other ships get.  

In the end, Ladrien and Marichat both get canon scraps and it rarely ever canonically lasts or goes well for us.  Most of us know all too well whatever minor victory we get is short-lived.

What really doesn’t need to keep happening is that people need to be genuinely rude about it.

Personally, I am a LadyNoir fan first and foremost, but I thoroughly enjoy all of the ship moments because they are *looks down at notes* the same two people after all.

It’s the same relationship that is only going to be all the more rich and have all the more internal worrying factors because of moments like these (as opposed to say sudden reappearance of ship rivals to add conflict) to drive the plot along for the rest of this season.

Just registered ladrien rpf. I want that too 👀

SO ladrien rpf is an idea that was brewed with a group of friends on a discord server way back in 2020 that i briefly considered writing for the ladrien zine and therefore collected all the ideas in a word document. i ended up writing something else for the zine which is for the best because the word limit wouldn't have done this idea justice.

but basically adrien and marinette are both really into ladrien rpf. in fact they are the king and queen of ladrien. eventually, they decide to create a collab comic, with marinette drawing and adrien writing. it's super successful with some minor roadbumps such as adrien continuing to write kisses and marinette refusing to draw them due to “sudden complete cessation of motor function”

honestly most of the best ideas for this AU didn't even come from me so i feel kinda weird about writing it? but most of the people in the conversation aren't really active anymore so if it's going to exist i suppose it is my duty 😤

Ladrien ask anon here. The problem isn't with the potential here. Fanon Marichat has been the same for sooo long, it has barely gotten better. Again the people who consider it boring forget that they're the same two people. Dynamic is gonna be the same regardless of what ship it is. There's a lot you can do with each ship. People don't want to try anything with Ladrien which is where the fanon assumption comes from.

I think it also boils down to peoples' unconscious biases. As discussed prior, MC reinforces gender roles/stereotypes (women are weak and need to be protected by big strong men) while Ladrien actively goes against them. Suddenly the girl is stronger and the boy needs saving, and people just don't know what to do with that. It's not so much the dynamics themselves (friends to lovers vs mutual pining/requited love). If MC had been the requited side since s1, it would still be the fan favorite. Ladrien would still be the least favorite even if they didn't have feelings for each other. At that point Ladrien would be boring because they don't even like each other, so what's the point?

For a subset of the MC standom, it's not even about the potential of friends to lovers because most MC balcony visit fics are a friends to lovers speed run. Chat says one funny thing, and Marinette is suddenly like wow, I never noticed how much I want to jump his bones before now. Crazy. Suddenly all of those arguments of MC having the most potential for them to grow closer without the pressure of being in love lose their power because most of them are not even writing that dynamic. They just want big strong kinky leather cat boy to come over and ravish the innocent, defenseless civilian girl. Because that is a stereotype that has been in hero fiction for decades. The guy saves the girl and they fall in love, and I think even if people don't realize or admit it, Ladrien makes them uncomfy because it's the opposite of that and society just doesn't know what to do with powerful women. Or men who need saving.

But that's the other thing though. ML at its core challenges that. ML is about the girl saving the boy. Adrien is the one kept behind walls by an overbearing guardian that he has no power over, and the girl is the one desperately trying to climb the walls and slay the dragon so he can be free. They explicitly stated that in the Gabriel Agreste episode with the comic. Marinette is Adrien's knight, not the other way around. There is a reason Marinette rolls her eyes and laughs at Chat Noir in Evillustrator when he tries to flip the script. There's a reason she was being over dramatic and pretending to need his help. Because she doesnt. In actuality, Marinette doesn't need to be saved, but Adrien does. Marinette might need a hug and a nap and a few less responsibilities, but she isn't the one that's being trapped and abused. Adrien is. Which is why it's interesting to me that three of the sides reinforce the idea that the girl doesn't need saving, and yet, the one side that could reinforce that (even if it's still untrue) is the most popular and "interesting" side to the fandom at large.

And no, I'm not saying all MC stans are sexist pieces of shit. There are plenty that are perfectly fine and just like the wacky hijinks aspect of MC, and that's fine. But I have seen far to many bad takes from MC stans in this fandom, so the good ones are certainly not the norm, or at the very least, they're not doing much to shut down the louder minority of their corner.

So I realized I probably haven't seen a lot of the episodes in English and in order. And since I was bored the other evening, I started rewatching ML starting at season 3. Some thoughts...

Chameleon: Evil, psychotic Lila who pretends to be nice is actually an amazing premise for a villain. But the class should know better, at least to SOME degree, or her lies should be more believable. Poor sweet Adrien continues to believe Lila just lies for attention and that he can change her. Marinette facing serious threats from Lila and almost getting akumatized was very dramatic. The kissing akuma is thematic, but still very uncomfortable to witness. Adrien looks at Marinette and smiles, leaving us all dead. 7/10

Animaestro: Marinette may be absolutely off-the-wall doing some bat-whack things in this episode, but the genre-savvy 2D/3D fight is just too much fun to hate the whole episode. 5/10

Bakerix: My dad is basically this man, but with less talent for baking bread. HARD pass. 2/10

Backwarder: Good akuma concept with Lenore's powers and the lucky charm solution. Miraculous history/backstory. Adrien and Gabriel both transforming in a train bathroom is comedic gold. A little Adrienette and a Ladynoir hand kiss. 6.5/10

Refleckdoll: Sigh. Again, Juleka? Ok ok. The senti/akuma is kinda lame. But I do like Juleka, regardless of hating Refleckta. And we got classmates in a reasonable setting. Adrien helping Marinette because he's best boi. Then we have Mayura serving A Lookë™. Not to mention Kwami SWAP. We love to Mister Bug AND Lady Noire... (although SMH, let Mister Bug figure out his own dang Lucky Charm) 7/10

Weredad: Now here's a fun episode to watch after Elation. SO MUCH MARICHAT AWKWARDNESS. I do have a few problems with this episode lie the contrived setup for the plot, the dialogue that keeps explaining people's previously-established motivations, and the rushed conclusion to Marinette's "crush" Still, an absolute DELIGHT. Love the fairytale motif too. 8.5/10

Silencer: I liked the premise of the music industry being brutal and a villain using your voice. But I hate the execution. I don't like Luka's declarations. Or the use of a montage as a replacement for relationship development... although I don't like the chemistry between Luka and Marinette, so I'm happy not to see more of it at the same time. There's some fun or clever moments, throughout, but I'm not sure I'm sold on this episode overall. 3/10 Onichan: Possibly one of the weirdest akumas, but Adrien IMMEDIATELY recognizes her. Kagami being akumatized over Adrien also felt too sudden given how little we've seen of them together this season. Lila being her worst self even while being hunted down... typical. Adrien as Chat Noir watching girls fight over him is hilarious. But the girls themselves, including Marinette, are all being..... well, deranged. 5/10 Miraculer: Gabriel teaming up with Lila to manipulate Chloe... only for Sabrina to get upset.... Miraculer could have been the most difficult villain to defeat, but alas.... Sabrina. We have some interesting momenst with Nino and Alya, Sabrina, and even Chat getting cataclysmed, but alas not much to keep my attention for long. 5/10 Oblivio: Such a fun episode start-to-finish. Almost nothing here I don't like. I love the way it starts mid-fight and shows us only what Chat and Ladybug know. Everything is great, but it somehow feels like it could have been just a little.... more. 9/10 Desperada: Some parts of this episode are a little ridiculous. Especially with the messy and confusing Luka/Marinette/Adrien/Kagami dynamics. And Adrien's snake outfit hurts me. But I do love seeing Ladrien as a superhero duo and seeing the necessity of having Chat Noir helping Ladybug at the same time. I just feel the story is muddled. 6/10

Chris Master: I don't care what anyone says, this episode is a hoot AND a holler. I absolutely consider it iconic. Yes, this is stupid. I don't care 7/10 Startrain: Minor moment with cute, wholesome Adrienette, a good akuma concept, plus Max kills it. But really Sabrina? and RIP to everyone's braincells when Adrien and Marinette both just happen to go missing before LB and CN appear. 7/10 Kwami Buster: Mrs. Mendeleiev is whack and the Kwamis are horrifying, but Multimouse is bae. PLEASE. Marinette is on some next-level brain juice with her entire elaborate plan. Meanwhile, Adrien just plays dumb. There are two types of people here.... and there are both idiots in love with each other. 6.5/10

I really loved the way that I was able to turn the fact that there is no such thing as a trust in French law into a plot point! Adrien keeps talking about how his money from modeling when he was a minor was paid into trust and...no it wasn't lol

Also Marinette's ring and wedding dress. I spent wayyyy too much time thinking about them and got ads from google thinking I was getting married for WEEKS afterward haha

I posted my inspirations for the dress here, but don't think I ever shared pictures of the ring and I'm not searching for it again because I don't want the ads lol

kuro neko canon divergence/alternate timeline; adrien and chloe friendship because i love her; and a bit marichat&ladrien. as a treat.

Adrien knows when he isn't needed or wanted. He learnt to recognise it from a young age when his parents were busy with the company or didn't have time for him for some other reason. It's a skill that only developed in the year his mom has been missing.

So when Ladybug makes it clear to him she doesn't need him and her team is enough he gives up his miraculous so she can find someone who will be of more use to her and the team, someone who isn't as busy and has as many obligations, someone who doesn't annoy her.

And when the evening the next day a guilty looking ladybug shows up in his room he feels like he wants to cry.

She explains to him that she need a new chat noir and that she says she knows the snake miraculous didn't work out but this one would be a better fit to his skillset. Patiently she makes it clear that he doen't need to say yes but it would be a great help to her and while she knows he's busy she has a team of backups if he can't come.

He loves her so much and even while it breaks his heart that she doesn't want him, only wants his perfect side of adrien, he accepts her offer the words of plagg that costumes are what the holder imagines them to be playing in the back of him mind.

When transforming he tries to focus on the days he was felix with his proper clothes and proper manners and the playdates he had with chloe, her the princess and he the proper prince. His costume reflects these memories and ladybug seems happy with him.

He allows himself a little pun, cat walker, and ladybug lets out a little laugh as she realises it before a look of sadness flashes over her face, it is gone as soon as it came.

Adrien's hreart breaks further.

Ladybug is happy with his progress over the weeks and Adriens live feels to have regressed back to the times where he was only perfect adrien only more busy that before he entered school.

He spends more time with chloe as a result because her Adrikins is perfect but also fun and they watch anime and read manga and go drinking milchshakes and a few hours every week are a lot more berable. It's a little strained in the beginning on his side because chloe still has a crush on him and she still is really rude to their classmates but falling back in old habbits with her is easy.

Then his "biggest yet" akuma comes about three months of fighting akumas with ladybug and her smile dimming and brightening in a frecrency he hasn't decifered yet.

It's name is kuro neko and ladybug is convinced it's the previous chat noir. It hurts to think that he would give in to his misery he sometimes feels and let himself to be akumatiezed. He loves ladybug and he would never fight her so he will never be akumatised. He makes sure of that.

The fight is dragged out because every plan of ladybug is faulty and there seems something very wrong with her smile this evening.

The fight ends and it is revealed that no this wasn't chat noir but ladybug is tense and tells him they need to talk.

In his room he detransforms and waits while she feeds her kwami in the bathroom.

When she's ladybug again she breaks down. He had seen it coming so he's prepared and like always he catches her and builds her back up.

Then she tells him it would propably be better for him to stop being cat walker. Or course, even when being perfect Adrien he can't be enough for his lady. She surprises him when she explains that se needs chat noir and that she is so sorry she dragged him into their mess.

Explaining to her that it's okay he lets himself hug her before telling her goodbye.

Plagg comes to him a few hours later telling him ladybug sent him to beg him to agree for at least one meeting. The Eifeltower at midnight. It's seven and he want's so bad it burns. But when he transforms he is scat walker not chat noir.

His second try makes him chat noir again and he knows he will forever do what his lady asks of him because he loves her but he needs someone else right now.

Marinette is nevously pacing on her balkony - maybe she's worried about something? - and when she sees him there is a tremble in her smile, maybe she missed chat noir? he hadn't said goodbye and they had faily regular meetings before ever since they met that  night full of broken hearts.

She brings up some of the lemon macarons he likes and the choclate ones she prefers and they talk for hours about nothing and everything.

He leaves at half past eleven and ladybug is already at the eiffel tower. she cries and apoligizes and begs him to come back to being her chat noir and of course he agrees.

When she hugs him there is choclate on her breath and he smiles of the similarity to marinette. he should introduce them sometimes. the lady he is in love with and the friend that he loves would most certainly get along with each other.

H esmiles because he is chat noir again and because he never will get akumatized and spends the next hour reconnecting with his lady before they both leave because she, assumed she really is his age like he guesses, also needs to go to school tomorrow.

He smiles when marinette runs into class seconds before the bell rings and finally feels like the wold was right and he was finally whole again.

Idk how to say this but the whole "ladrien is the real sin ship" is as bad as marichat being the "sin ship". They're still 14 years old. You could just say forbidden romance and that the risk of being found is higher or something and stop yk
