Jinbe, Franky and Brook sat against some of the rocks to the back in relaxation, Sanji was busy trying to peak at the women without going over the wall and Usopp was sitting near Law, showering himself.

He seemed relaxed despite all the noise, though his face still held that classic scowl. "Tsk," Zoro rolled his eyes. "Well, technically if you viewed Yamato as a woman and view those part as female- gross - then you're straight. Quit worrying so much, no need to be fragile."

Sanji sighed. "You're right. I know Yamato is just as much a man as Law. I just... have to sort through my thoughts."

From the moment that Zoro had accidentally occupied the entire Ryugu castle, Nami knew her vacation time was over. She knew everything would only keep getting worse and worse until the situation got so out of hand that the only way out was to barge through, blindly following Luffy and hope for the best. It’s always worked that way so far.

And it worked this time, too; until it didn’t.

Everything seemed to be going so well, too. The New Fish-man Pirates were easy to deal with—really the gigantic ship falling on their heads was a lot more of an issue—and seeing as they had saved the kingdom, with Jinbe and Shirahoshi on their side, the king and princes came around quickly as well. Hell, they even got the entire contents of the treasury as thanks and that was really all that mattered to her at that point.

Everything was going great on this New World adventure so far, if Nami was any judge. She was going to be rich and everything was going to go smoothly all the way to Laugh Tale.

Yeah, right.

Staring at the bonfire in the little clearing in Zou’s Whale Forest, Nami hugged her knees to her chest. In retrospect, she realized that she shouldn’t have underestimated Luffy and his ability to pick fights with the worst people at the worst times but she really wasn’t counting on him threatening Big Mom of all people right off the bat, only to follow that with Torao and his plan to attack Doflamingo and Kaido.  

And as if all that wasn’t enough, they took Sanji away now, too.

“Hey, Nami, what’s wrong?”

Nami startled at the voice, not noticing Usopp approaching her until he stood right in front of her, offering her a mug full of liquor which she gratefully accepted. She really could use a drink; it’s been a long few weeks. “Thanks. And it’s nothing, just tired.”

Usopp gave her a doubtful look but didn’t comment. Instead, after a moment where he obviously debated whether to press her or not, he only smiled and nodded before sitting down next to her.

The two of them sat in silence for a while, simply watching the rest of the crew and the minks dance and play around the cackling bonfire. Nami chuckled quietly when she noticed Luffy standing by the barbecue spot with Chopper hanging onto his shoulder while they waited for more food to be ready. Luffy was bouncing on the balls of his feet impatiently the entire time, then running off the second he got the food on his plate. The navigator frowned slightly when after a few steps he paused dead in his tracks, only to put Chopper down before taking off again, obviously having a clear goal in mind.

Before she even had the time wonder what that was about, she felt Usopp nudging her to get her attention. He was pointing a little off to the side, towards the far back of the party.

Nami squinted, trying to make out what she was supposed to see, until she noticed the white hat and tall, lean figure walking casually to meet Luffy half-way. Torao. Of course it was Torao; Luffy probably out to force-feed the other pirate captain ‘all the tasty foods because he’s missing out.’ Wouldn’t be the first time.

Shaking her head, Nami huffed. Judging by the determined look on Torao’s face, it was finally time for them to stop dancing around each other like a pair of idiots. Fucking finally.  

At least something positive was happening around here, she supposed. Although—

“Shit, now I owe Robin a thousand beri,” she cursed quietly, making Usopp look at her. “Just can’t wait a few weeks longer, can you?”

“Wait, you two bet on them?” he asked her, baffled.

Nami only shrugged, an evil smirk on her lips, “Obviously. Did you look at them at any point before now?”

“No, I mean; why only you two? I’d get in on that one!” The sniper shot her a dirty glare and Nami felt an easy laughter bubbling out of her chest.

She suddenly felt so much lighter and all it took was a minute in Usopp’s company, a minute to bring her down from the whirlwind of her mind and back to reality. She quickly shook her head to chase the last heavy thoughts away before replying, “You can still get in on the Zoro and Sanji one.”

“I can’t believe you. Anything else you’ve been keeping from your friends and the most wonderful crewmates, Miss Cat Burglar?” Usopp asked in a mock-hurt tone.

Nami stuck her tongue out at him cheekily. “Nothing else. Right now, at least.”

Usopp nodded seriously. “Well, next time you bet on the victory of the amazing Usopp, make sure to let me know.”

“Of course, oh great God Usopp,” Nami agreed, her voice shaking with badly suppressed laughter. She really needed this.

Turning her attention back to the party, she felt herself relax. Now that she could see the scene clearly without getting lost in her head, she could finally appreciate the atmosphere. With the bonfire, the lively, dancing crowd, the make-shift food stalls… It almost felt like a festival more than a party. It reminded her of the summer festival back on Conomi Islands, the one that took place every year up until Arlong arrived. She wondered if they had started it again after she had left. She’d love to see it if they did.

She’d pack a picnic basket full of tangerines, grab Nojiko and Mr Genzo and they’s wander around the place for hours, enjoying the little games and tasting the food. Later, they’d meet up with Luffy and everyone else and then hike up on the little hill above the little town together, having their own little picnic of tangerines, away from all the noise a crowded walkways, watching the festival lights from afar and breathing in the fresh air. A part of the festival, yet not.

Just like they used to do it with Bellemere.

Nami knew why they did it back then—she knew Bellemere didn’t have the money to keep two little girls happy that long in the middle of a festival. But even if they didn’t have to bring their own food and toys anymore, Nami would still do it. It was tradition, and it was fun, and she really wanted to do it again sometime, with all the people she loved.

She was sure she’d have the chance to one day. Once they have sailed all around the world and emerged back in the East Blue. For now, however, she’d take this bonfire and what came with it—the laughter, off-key singing, good food, and the warmth. Her friends.

“I’m glad you’re feeling better,” Usopp noted quietly after a while, smiling at her as he bumped the nearly forgotten mug in her hands with his own.

Nami smiled back, wide and happy and content. “All thanks to the money you’ll be coughing up once you lose the bet.”

“Oi!” he snapped immediately, a scowl on his face that only deepened when Nami started laughing outright.

Yeah, she really needed this.

Alright. So.

Before I start, I would like to clearly state one thing: this is the first and the last time I am mentioning anything related to the proshipping discourse. I won’t answer questions and takes on this topic, I won’t take any side and I will block anyone who won’t get the implication and gonna pester me despite my silence. I am doing it only because the Anon here is curious AND polite and I would rather clarify some things in a pleasant atmosphere than in front of a pissed mob.

Twitter in general is... a very toxic place. VERY. TOXIC. If you were on tumblr in 2012 era or so, then multiply it by like ten. Some echoes of this drama reached tumblr, but never got treated seriously besides rather narrow group of very young people. Who probably spend most of their social media time on twitter anyway. 

Clear? Clear.

Discourse under the cut, there are mentions of dark content, r*pe and minor nsfw content.

There’s a very disturbing trend among young people (especially young people from rich “white” countries, such as US, Canada, western Europe, Australia etc. etc.), which originated from criticism of dark content. Don’t get me wrong, criticism is needed also in fandom - and “problematic” content needs to be more or less monitored because, unfortunately, it’s a fucking soil for creepos and people who do real life time harm. It’s also a myth that the fiction doesn’t influence the reality. (It does! however... not like a lot of people like to think about it.) Such things as fetishizing rape, fetishizing abuse, fetishizing incest need to be referred and discussed and adressed.

However, the cancel culture and so called antis took said statements and carried them far, far away from their origin. For them, ANYTHING touching the dark content is by definition same evil as real life harm. And it doesn’t matter, if someone writes a real pedo fantasy or just ships two teenagers and dares to draw a suggestive fanart with them - for them it’s the same.

And lately, said circles on twitter made another step: harassing, bullying and even doxxing authors who produce dark content. A popular queer fanartist was outed to their family because of the topic of their art - outed to conservative family in Iraq. You know, one of those countries where for being queer you can even get killed.

Unfortunately, similar fate happened to a popular One Piece fanartist from Japan. You might know about whom I’m talking about, if you ever saw a very suggestive zosan or solo Sanji fanarts with very tight clothes, especially on Sanji. Very characteristic style. Said fanartist also shared on their twitter links to their ns.fw content. With tons of trigger warnings, both in tweets and in said links. To see them, not only you have to read warnings on twitter, but also read warnings on the external platform AND confirm that you read them by typing a code word. There’s no way you could see said heavy, disturbing content WITHOUT your consent for it. Believe me, I was there, I went through all those steps.

And yes, the content there was really heavy. R*pe fantasy among the lightest things included. But once again: there were warnings. There. Were. Warnings.

Meanwhile, some idiot downloaded those fanarts and reposted them without a warning, exposing them to minors. And it came across antis. People harassed and bullied the author for something they didn’t even do (once again, they tagged their content and hid it from innocent eyes), until they deleted their twitter. 

EDIT: turned out they temporarily hid twitter instead of deleting it, I saw a new fanart from them today, 2nd May.

As a result, a huge shitstorm has started and the whole discourse basically turned into two sides barking at each other, where one side thinks it’s a human right to harm dark content enjoyers and the other one thinks it’s a human right to enjoy disturbing porn. (In a huge simplification but yes, it’s more or less that radical.) A lot of nsfw artists hid their accounts because they don’t want to be approached by an angry mob. And I’m talking about people who have never drawn anything problematic in their life, like the lawlu fanartist I mentioned yesterday and what stirred the requests to share the link.

TL;DR twitter is a toxic hell where you can step into drama easier than catching covid in a crowded bus. Please, be careful when approaching it right now and please, think twice about things you post there.
