The Little Things [Rewrite]
a/n: this is my first rewrite and it's a rewrite of the first fic I've published ever. i didn't proofread because i'm sure i'd hate it but this one is less lighthearted than the original. hopefully i still did it justice.
word count: 944
angst, fluff
minatozaki sana x gender neutral reader
original
Tumblr media
Sana was possessive. She knew that. She was overprotective and a 'worrywart' as you called it but sometimes rational thinking is thrown out the window when it comes to you. Her tearstained cheeks were proof of that.
"Where have you been?"
You furrow your brows as you looked at Sana, the look of disapproval apparent on her face as she crossed her arms. "I was out with a friend."
"This late? It's 2 in the morning!"
"I told you before that I'd be going out today, do you not remember?"
"So what? Who in the world would you even be going out with?"
You're reluctant to say the name, knowing how she'd react. "Momo..."
"Momo... As in the Hirai Momo?" She chuckles almost hysterically, her tone was almost venomous as she spoke, the back-handed insults flying straight out of her mouth. "The girl who'd do anything to even be near you? The girl who was so clearly trying to take advantage of you at that stupid frat party one time? The girl that was definitely in love with you?"
"She did not take advantage of me! She was watching out for me! We cleared that up ages ago! You were there!"
"Right, because she being so protective while she practically hit on you as I watched! If you're cheating on me just say it!"
Silence.
She didn't mean that.
Why did she say it?
Take it back.
Her heart hammered against her chest as she saw the look on your face, your eyes turning redder by the second, "You think I'm... cheating on you?"
"..."
Stop it.
Say something.
Anything.
Fix this.
But in the end, she doesn't.
Silence envelops you as you tighten your lips, evidently to stop yourself from crying. You nod briefly as you take your keys, your fingers fiddling with the ring on your left hand. "Okay."
And before she realizes it, you're out the door under the short promise that you're only going out to clear your head.
It's been an hour since then. An hour of hating herself. An hour of worrying where you've been. An hour of sobbing.
How stupid was she? Why did she doubt you? Why did she hurt you in the process?
She gets up to pour herself a glass of water, but the sudden motion somehow makes her light-headed as she grabs the corner of your bed side drawer to support herself. But then she sees something that catches her eye, something she's never seen before. There laid a small brown journal, maybe a diary, under a small stack of your favorite books that you kept to yourself.
She sat down again, debating whether she should reach for it or not, but in the end she does. She lays it on her lap as she turns the blank cover, reading the words etched inside.
"The Little Things I Love About My Sweetheart, Minatozaki Sana"
The words made her heart skip a beat as she turned the page, reading down the next few lines.
"Always love her, never disappoint her"
Oh, but how she disappointed you.
She flips the page, her eyes scanning through the words, quietly reading them to herself.
"Her love is loud and sometimes almost too obnoxious but that's what I love about it. I love those quirky songs she makes up on the fly as I step into the room, never ceasing to make my heart flutter. I love that she's always there and always present.
And then there's her honey-like voice. It has a sweet tone with an underlying huskiness, the mere sound of it making my knees want to buckle. It's worrying how weak I am for her because I'm sure I'd go die if she told me to.
I really never noticed it until recently but she has the cutest habits imaginable. She almost always have to even out her kisses when she kisses my cheeks. 'It'd be unfair to the other!' she tells me.
But all of it really pales in comparison when I see her drop everything for me. Sometimes-"
Your voice abruptly interrupts her as her eyes tear away from the page.
"Sometimes when she notices I come home, she drops everything she's doing and comes to give me a tight hug with a huge smile on her face and I love her for that."
And there you stood, leaning against the doorframe, your nose and cheeks a shade of rosy pink from the blistering cold outside.
"Y/N..."
And in that moment, she really does drop everything.
The bed quickly dips as her hands push her off the bed. Her legs practically get caught onto each other as she rushes off the bed, her whole body crashing into yours. Her arms envelop around you as her head rests on your collar. Her hands ball up bunches of your shirt as tears begin staining it.
"I'm so sorry..." As she spoke, her breath hitched repeatedly, her lips shaking, "I-I didn't mean it any of it... I was scared..."
She bites her lip as she waits for you to say something. Anything. Tell her that she was wrong. Tell her that you were hurt. Tell her that she was crazy.
But instead, she feels your soft lips press against her forehead, the three words ringing inside her head loud and clear. Her worries disappear.
"I love you."

♡ KUJO TENN
The realization settles over you like the mesmerizing rays of an eclipse at dawn; you know you shouldn’t stare directly at the sun’s blinding daze, and yet, your eyes can’t quite avert from his light.
But this is normal, right?
Everyone was attracted to the rose gold light his imaginary wings always seemed to give off. A radiance in thaw; his otherworldly aura helplessly drawing you in, until the honey of his voice wrapped its sweet warmth around you.
Kujo Tenn.
Everyone’s angel.
Your closest friend.
And yet, obviously, you were not immune to his charms.
Every time his gaze found yours, no matter if it was in a crowded concert hall or in the privacy of one of your rooms, the world around you faded; white noise and the blurry background of a discolored picture were all that remained around you and Tenn.
Thus, you have to build a wall between you and the alluring image of the angel.
You can absolutely not reveal the emotions your heart beats in.
Tenn and you have been friends for so long… And he’s a famous idol on top of that… You can’t taint his wings in stygian ink just because of your foolish desires.
And so, you close off your own invisible wings, the freefall awaiting you, a slow, bittersweet agony.
For bites of tongue replace words you used to share with him, in the comfort of sugar scented bedrooms and the soft colors of glazed donuts.
And Tenn knows.
That something is weighing on your mind.
That the sunshine that usually filtered through the trees as he spent time with you is now dimmed; the first droplets of a downpour falling as perennial foliage decays.
You thought your silence would be the silver locket to keep your diary secret, but to him, it’s like breathlessness as a heavy feeling constricts your chest.
Thorny vines, opening your throat to ask for help.
And despite it all, you decide to stitch bloody thread over your lips, keeping them sealed, no matter how much your heart shreds.
Luckily, an angel’s halo just happens to shine upon you, healing the parts of you you’re self destroying.
“[Y/n],” Tenn calls you, as a few quiet seconds pass with no answer from you following. “Are you alright?” He asks, those beautiful maroon eyes of his regarding you with concern.
You stare at him with a confused expression. Then, you get back to your senses.
“Yeah… I guess I was just spacing out.” You utter softly, avoiding his eyes.
Fiddling with your fingers, you reach out for the plate of donuts sitting between you two.
The atmosphere feels tense enough around you, you feel you’ll suffocate if you don’t busy yourself with something soon.
In that instant, your hand is held by someone else’s.
His touch is tender, so gentle, as his fingers intertwine with yours.
“Will you tell me what’s wrong?” Tenn prompts, thumb running over the back of your hand.
You stammer, eyes widening, heart pounding wildly against your ribcage, a telltale sound of the frenzy your mind is into.
“I-I… I’m… It’s n-nothing.” You finally manage.
The angelic idol gives you a knowing look, a smirk playing on his too tempting lips.
“Since when did you become so shy around me?” He asks, one of his hands brushing some strands away from your face.
You take in a sharp breath, heat flaring up on your cheeks.
“T-that’s not…” You try to turn your face away from him.
Because you know if you keep getting lost in his pretty quartz-like eyes, your lips won’t be able to keep away from his.
And, however, it seems that’s exactly what he wants.
Taking your chin in between his fingers, Tenn guides your face towards his.
“Why, [Y/n]?” He whispers, thumb running over your lower lip.
Your breath hitches, pupils dilating as your friend, who’s definitely more than that, holds your gaze.
You know what he’s referring to.
Your silence. The avoidance and pulling away from him you’ve been isolating in.
“I can’t…” You begin, as thick words lodge in your throat, the fear of ‘I can’t be with you’ ‘I can’t have my heart broken when you inevitably say no’, the silent chains constricting your throat.
Strands of hair weaved from wishes on a shooting star tickle your cheek.
Tenn’s forehead rests against yours, as his hands thread through your hair.
He utters your name.
Millimeters separate his lips from yours.
And the hardcovers of your secret diary seem to fall apart this close to him.
“I love you.” You inevitable breath, pupils blown wide, in the space between.
Your angel’s answer comes in the form of warmth and softness upon your lips.
His hands move to your waist, bringing you closer to him in the sunlit space of the room.
Against your better judgment, your arms wrap around his shoulders, your form melting into the sweetness of his perfect embrace.
You’ve longed for this.
So many days, so many nights, in which dreams came to a close with you wide eyed, as you came down from the daze of his pretty face appearing in your oneiric illusions.
And even if you want to believe it, but fear makes you deny it, he’s yearned for this too.
Because as much as Tenn strives to move the hearts of his fans and put bright smiles on their faces, you are always the first one he sings for.
And now, even if it’s in an unspoken way, the melody of him next to you is finally being relied.
Alas, seconds helplessly tick by, and one cannot exist without oxygen forever, as much as you can’t be without each other.
“I love you too, for a long time now, I have.” Are the words that follow your Tenn’s soft smile the moment you part.
There is no need for locked vaults between you and him anymore.
♡ SUNOHARA MOMOSE
You know you are a fool.
Both for even beginning to fathom your feelings could ever be returned, and for acting the way you’re doing now.
You’re just making yourself miserable and you know it.
And yet, you’re hell bent on denying it.
It’s so obvious to you now how he could never like you back in the same way you like him.
He’s one of Japan’s top idols, for crying out loud.
The fact that you just happen to know him since his college days doesn’t mean anything.
Therefore, you are determined to swat away any thoughts of infatuation that come your way.
No matter if that means entirely isolating from him.
Momo.
The friend that’s been with you for over seven years now.
You can’t ruin what you have; and what’s more: you don’t know what you’d do with yourself if you heard ‘no’ coming out of his lips.
So pulling away, being quiet… That’s what must be done.
You were always good at it, anyway.
And besides, what good would it do, if you ended up accidentally making your feelings known?
This is for the better.
You turn around in your bed, the city lights casting a dimmed glow around your room; dyeing it in shades of muted cyan.
Blue.
Quite fitting for the state you find yourself in.
Lying on your side, sheets rumpled, as numbness and doubt wrap around you.
Your eyes focus on your phone for a moment, carelessly thrown around your bed.
You’ve been ignoring all the messages today.
Especially the ones sent by him.
You just… couldn’t bring yourself to open them; it hurt seeing his enthusiastic typing and all the cute kaomojis. It’s as if… You were betraying him by being like usual, when it’s clear your feelings for him have shifted to another direction.
Not that you’ll ever reveal that to him.
And if you ignore it for long enough, it is sure to fade away.
A doodle in pink pencil, undoubtedly to be erased as paper yellows beneath the ticking of the clock.
You knew that better than anyone.
You have been wiped out too many times when you tried to speak from your heart, for it to become whole again.
Deep scars still remain, and they hurt enough as is to risk reopening them once more.
It’s better to wound the remaining untouched flesh of your choking heart, if you want to avoid shattering it completely.
Fuzzy thoughts turn into exhaustion, which leads you into restless dreams, under the light of a dimmed moon.
You awake to the strident sound of a ringtone blaring right by your ears.
Judging by the light around, it’s still early, and no sun is filtering through the curtains today.
Groggily, you pick up, if only to stop the annoying ringing.
“Yeah?” You yawn half asleep.
A second later, you pull the speaker away from you, the voice on the other side, on the edge of yelling.
“[Y/n]-chan! I finally got in touch! You haven’t been replying to my texts, ah I was so worried!”
“I…” You begin. “I’m fine, Momo, please don’t worry.” You reply, trying to keep your tone even.
On one hand, it really does warm your heart he’s been thinking about you.
On the other, you really do feel guilty for having worried him…
And besides, you’ve totally failed to avoid him.
“Are you sure, [Y/n]?” Melancholy is palpable in his usually perky tone. It makes you feel a pang of hurt on your chest.
“I… Yeah, I guess…” You trail off.
A few seconds of silence on the other end of the line.
Then:
“You know, if you’re not feeling well or there’s something worrying you, you can count on me.”
Why was Momo always so kind? It makes it so hard to keep denying what’s clearly love for him.
“I’ll figure it out.” You mumble, perhaps more to yourself than for him to hear.
“I know you will, [Y/n], but, you know, if you want some company… Just say the word.”
A nostalgic smile settles on your lips.
The truth is you would certainly like it, his company.
You let out a sigh.
“I’d love that.” You utter, truthfully.
One of Momo’s bright giggles can be heard on the other end.
A few fleeting ticks later, your doorbell rings.
“Open the door then, [Y/n]-chan.”
You can’t help the wide smile spreading on your face.
“What? Really? You’re here?”
You can practically see the nervous laugh he lets out.
“I… uh got worried when you didn’t reply and I thought maybe you were sick, so I… kinda bought many of your favorite snacks… yeah…”
He’s too cute.
With that same dopey grin on your face, you open the door.
Even if you can’t make your feelings known for now, you suppose it’s alright to indulge in the tight hug he gives you.
You certainly needed one from him right now.

Squash's Book Roundup 2023
Last year I read 67 books. This year my goal was 70, but I very quickly passed that, so in total I read 92 books this year. Honestly I have no idea how I did it, it just sort of happened. My other goal was to read an equal amount of fiction and nonfiction this year (usually fiction dominates), and I was successful in that as well. Another goal which I didn’t have at the outset but which kind of organically happened after the first month or so of reading was that I wanted to read mostly strange/experimental/transgressive/unusual fiction. My nonfiction choices were just whatever looked interesting or cool, but I also organically developed a goal of reading a wider spread of subjects/genres of nonfiction. A lot of the books I read this year were books I’d never heard of, but stumbled across at work. Also, finally more than 1/3 of what I read was published in the 21st century.
I’ll do superlatives and commentary at the end, so here is what I read in 2023:

~Some number factoids~ I read 46 fiction and 46 nonfiction. One book, The Fifth Wound by Aurora Mattia, is fictionalized/embellished autobiography, so it could go half in each category if we wanted to do that, but I put it in the fiction category. I tried to read as large a variety of nonfiction subjects/genres as I could. A lot of the nonfiction I read has overlapping subjects, so I’ve chosen to sort by the one that seems the most overarching. By subject, I read: 5 art history/criticism, 5 biographies, 1 black studies, 1 drug memoir, 2 essay collections, 2 history, 2 Latin American studies, 4 literary criticism, 1 music history, 2 mythology/religion, 1 nature, 4 political science, 2 psychology, 5 queer studies, 2 science, 1 sociology, 1 travel, 2 true crime, 3 urban planning. I also read more queer books in general (fiction and nonfiction) than I have in years, coming in at 20 books.
The rest of my commentary and thoughts under a cut because it's fairly long
Here’s a photo of all the books I read that I own a physical copy of (minus Closer by Dennis Cooper which a friend is borrowing):

~Superlatives and Thoughts~
I read so many books this year I’m going to do a runner-up for each superlative category.
Favorite book: This is such a hard question this year. I think I gave out more five-star ratings on Goodreads this year than I ever have before. The books that got 5 stars from me this year were A Simple Story: The Last Malambo by Leila Guerriero, Capitalist Realism by Mark Fisher, The Emerald Mile by Kevin Fedarko, The Mustache by Emmanuel Carriere, The Passion According to GH by Clarice Lispector, trans girl suicide museum by Hannah Baer, The Fifth Wound by Aurora Mattia, Mammother by Zachary Schomburg, and Blackouts by Justin Torres. But I think my favorite book of the year was The Fifth Wound by Aurora Mattia. It is an embellished, fictionalized biography of the author’s life, chronicling a breakup that occurred just before she began her transition, and then a variety of emotional events afterward and her renewal of a connection with that person after a number of years had passed. The writing style is beautiful, extremely decadent, and sits in a sort of venn diagram of poetry, theory, fantasy and biography. My coworker who recommended this book to me said no one she’d recommended it to had finished it because they found it so weird. I read the first 14 pages very slowly because I didn’t exactly know what the book was doing, but I quickly fell completely in love with the imagery and the formatting style and the literary and religious references that have been worked into the book both as touchstones for biography and as vehicles for fantasy. There is a video I remember first seeing years ago, in which a beautiful pinkish corn snake slithers along a hoop that is part of a hanging mobile made of driftwood and macrame and white beads and prism crystals. This was the image that was in the back of my head the entire time I was reading The Fifth Wound, because it matched the decadence and the strangeness and the crystalline beauty of the language and visuals in the book. It is a pretty intense book, absolutely packed with images and emotion and ideas and preserved vignettes where reality and fantasy and theory overlap. It’s one of those books that’s hard to describe because it’s so full. It’s dense not in that the words or ideas are hard to understand, but in that it’s overflowing with imagery and feelings, and it feels like an overflowing treasure chest. Runner-up:The Mustache by Emmanuel Carriere. However, this book wins for a different superlative, so I’ve written more about it there.
Least favorite book: Querelle de Roberval by Kevin Lambert. I wrote a whole long review of it. In summary, Lambert’s book takes its name from Querelle de Brest, a novel by Jean Genet, and is apparently meant to be an homage to Genet’s work. Unfortunately, Lambert seems to misunderstand or ignore all the important aspects of Genet’s work that make it so compelling, and instead twists certain motifs Genet uses as symbols of love or transcendence into meaningless or negative connotations. He also attempts to use Genet’s mechanic of inserting the author into the narrative and allowing the author to have questionable or conflicting morals in order to emphasize certain aspects of the characters or narrative, except he does so too late in the game and ends up just completely undermining everything he writes. This book made me feel insulted on behalf of Jean Genet and all the philosophical thought he put into his work. Runner-up: What We See When We Read by Peter Mendelsund. This graphic designer claims that when people read they don’t actually imagine what characters look like and can’t conjure up an image in their head when asked something like “What does Jane Eyre look like to you?” Unfortunately, there’s nothing scientific in the book to back this up and it’s mostly “I” statements, so it’s more like “What Peter Mendelsund Sees (Or Doesn’t See) When He Reads”. It’s written in what seems to be an attempt to mimic Marshall McLuhan’s style in The Medium Is The Massage, but it isn’t done very well. I spent most of my time reading this book thinking This does not reflect my experience when I read novels so I think really it’s just a bad book written by someone who maybe has some level of aphantasia or maybe is a visual but not literary person, and who assumes everyone else experiences the same thing when they read. (Another runner-up would be The Hero With A Thousand Faces by Joseph Campbell, but I think that’s a given because it’s an awful piece of revisionist, racist trash, so I won’t write a whole thing about it. I can if someone wants me to.)
Most surprising/unexpected book: The Mustache by Emmanuel Carriere. This book absolutely wins for most surprising. However, I don’t want to say too much about it because the biggest surprise is the end. It was the most shocking, most unexpected and bizarre endings to a novel I’ve read in a long time, and I absolutely loved it. It was weird from the start and it just kept getting weirder. The unnamed narrator decides, as a joke, to shave off the moustache he’s had for his entire adult life. When his wife doesn’t react, he assumes that she’s escalating their already-established tradition of little pranks between each other. But then their mutual friends say nothing about the change, and neither do his coworkers, and he starts spiral into confusion and paranoia. I don’t want to spoil anything else because this book absolutely blew me away with its weirdness and its existential dread and anyone who likes weird books should read it. Runner-up: Morvern Callar by Alan Warner. I don’t even know what compelled me to open this book at work, but I’m glad I did. The book opens on Christmas, where the main character, Morvern, discovers her boyfriend dead by suicide on the kitchen floor of their flat. Instead of calling the police or her family, she takes a shower, gets her things and leaves for work. Her narrative style is strange, simultaneously very detached and extremely emotional, but emotional in an abstract way, in which descriptions and words come out stilted or strangely constructed. The book becomes a narrative of Morvern’s attempts to find solitude and happiness, from the wilderness of Scotland to late night raves and beaches in an unnamed Mediterranean city. The entire book is scaffolded by a built-in playlist. Morvern’s narrative is punctuated throughout by accounts of exactly what she’s listening to on her Walkman. The narrative style and the playlist and the bizarre behavior of the main character were not at all what I was expecting when I opened the book, but I read the entire book in about 3 hours and I was captivated the whole time. If you like the Trainspotting series of books, I would recommend this one for sure.
Most fun book: The Emerald Mile by Kevin Fedarko. This book was amazing. It was like reading an adventure novel and a thriller and a book on conservationism all wrapped into one and it was clearly very passionately written and it was a blast. I picked it up because I was pricing it at work and I read the captions on one of the photo inserts, which intrigued me, so I read the first page, and then I couldn’t stop. The two main narratives in the book are the history of the Grand Canyon (more specifically the damming of the Colorado River) and the story of a Grand Canyon river guide called Kenton Grua, who decided with two of his river guide friends to break the world record for fastest boat ride down the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. The book is thoroughly researched, and reaches back to the first written record of the canyon, then charts the history of the canyon and the river up to 1983 when Grua made his attempt to race down the river, and then the aftermath and what has happened to everyone in the years since. All of the historical figures as well as the “current” figures of 1983 come to life, and are passionately portrayed. It’s a genuine adventure of a book, and I highly recommend it. Runner-up: Summer Fun by Jeanne Thornton. It asks “What if Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys was actually a trans woman?” Actually, that’s not quite it. It asks “What if a trans woman living in poverty in southwest America believed to an almost spiritual level that Brian Wilson was a trans woman?” The main character and narrator, Gala, is convinced that the lead singer of her favorite band, the Get Happies, (a fictional but fairly obvious parallel to the Beach Boys) is a trans woman. Half the book is her writing out her version of the singer’s life history, and the other half is her life working at a hostel in Truth Or Consequences, New Mexico, where she meets a woman who forces her out of her comfort zone and encourages her to face certain aspects of her self and identity and her connection with others. It’s a weird novel, and definitely not for everyone, but it’s fun. I was reading it on the train home and I was so into it that I missed my stop and had to get off at the next station and wait 20 minutes for the train going back the other way.
Book that taught me the most: Breath: The new science of a lost art by James Nestor. In it, Nestor explores why humans as a general population are so bad at breathing properly. He interviews scientists and alternative/traditional health experts, archaeologists, historians and religious scholars. He uses himself as a guinea pig to experiment with different breathing techniques from ancient meditation styles to essentially overdosing on oxygen in a lab-controlled environment to literally plugging his nose shut to only mouth-breathe for two weeks (and then vice-versa with nose breathing). It was interesting to see a bunch of different theories a laid out together regarding what kind of breathing is best, as well as various theories on the history of human physiology and why breathing is hard. Some of it is scientific, some pseudoscience, some just ancient meditation techniques, but he takes a crack at them all. What was kind of cool is that he tries every theory and experiment with equal enthusiasm and doesn’t really seem to favor any one method. Since he’s experimenting on himself, a lot of it is about the effects the experiments had on him specifically and his experiences with different types of breathing. His major emphasis/takeaway is that focusing on breathing and learning to change the ways in which we breathe will be beneficial in the long run (and that we should all breath through our noses more). While I don’t think changing how you breathe is a cure-all (some of the pseudoscience he looks at in this book claims so) I certainly agree that learning how to breath better is a positive goal. Runner-up: The Sober Truth by Lance Dodes. I say runner-up because a lot of the content of the book is things that I had sort of vague assumptions about based on my knowledge of addiction and AA and mental illness in general. But Dodes put into words and illustrated with numbers and anecdotes and case studies what I just kind of had a vague feeling about. It was cool to see AA so thoroughly debunked by an actual psychiatrist and in such a methodical way, since my skepticism about it has mostly been based on the experiences of people I know in real life, anecdotes I’ve read online, or musicians/writers/etc I’m a fan of that went through it and were negatively affected.
Most interesting/thought provoking book: Mammother by Zachary Schomburg. The biggest reason this book was so interesting is because the little world in which it exists is so strange and yet so utterly complete. In a town called Pie Time (where birds don’t exist and the main form of work is at the beer-and-cigarettes factory) a young boy called Mano who has been living his childhood as a girl decides that he is now a man and that it’s time for him to grow up. As this happens, the town is struck by an affliction called God’s Finger. People die seemingly out of nowhere, from a hole in their chest, and some object comes out of the hole. Mano collects the things that come out of these holes, and literally holds them in order to love them, but the more he collects, the bigger he becomes as he adds objects to his body. A capitalist business called XO shows up, trying to convince the people of Pie Time that they can protect themselves from God’s Finger with a number of enterprises, and starts to slowly take over the town. But Mano doesn’t believe death is something that should be run from. This book is so pretty, and the symbolism/metaphors, even when obvious, feel as though they belong organically in the world. A quote on the back of the book says it is “as nearly complete a world as can be”, and I think that’s a very accurate description. The story is interesting, the characters are compelling, and the magical realist world in which the story exists is fascinating. Runner up: trans girl suicide museum by Hannah Baer. This is a series of essays taken (for the most part) from Baer’s blog posts. They span a chunk of time in which she writes her thoughts and musings on her experience transition and transgender existence in general. It is mostly a series of pieces reflecting on “early” stages of transition. But I thought it was really cool to see an intellectual and somewhat philosophical take on transition, written by someone who has only been publicly out for a few years, and therefore is looking at certain experiences with a fresh gaze. As the title suggests, a lot of the book is a bit sad, but it’s not all doom and gloom. A lot of the emphasis is on the important of community when it comes to the experience of starting to transition and the first few years, and the importance of community on the trans experience in general. I really liked reading Hannah Baer’s thoughts as a queer intellectual who was writing about this stuff as she experienced it (or not too long after) rather than writing about the experience of early transition years and years down the line. It meant the writing was very sharp and the emotion was clear and not clouded by nostalgia.
Other thoughts/commentary on books I don’t have superlatives for:
I’m glad my first (full) book read in 2023 was A Simple Story: The Last Malambo by Leila Guierrero. It’s a small, compact gem of a book that follows the winner of an Argentinian dance competition. The Malambo is a traditional dance, and the competition is very fierce, and once someone wins, they can never compete again. The author follows the runner-up of the previous year, who has come to compete again. It paints a vivid picture of the history of the dance, the culture of the competition, and the character of the dancer the author has chosen to follow. It’s very narrowly focused, which makes it really compelling.
The Hearing Trumpet by Leonora Carrington could have easily won for most fun or most interesting book. Carrington was a surrealist writer and painter (and was in a relationship with Max Ernst until she was institutionalized and he was deported by the Nazis). In The Hearing Trumpet, an elderly woman called Marian is forced by her family to go live in an old ladies’ home. The first strange thing about the place is that all of the little cabins each woman lives in is shaped like some odd object, like an iron, or ice cream, or a rabbit. The other old women at the institution are a mixed bag, and the warden of the place is hostile. Marian starts to suspect that there are secrets, and even witchcraft involved, and she and a few of the other ladies start to try and unravel the occult mysteries hidden in the grounds of the home. The whole book is fun and strange, and the ending is an extremely entertaining display of feminist occult surrealism.
Sacred Sex: Erotica writings from the religions of the world by Robert Bates was a book I had to read for research for my debunking of Withdrawn Traces. It was really very interesting, but it was also hilarious to read because maybe 5% of any of the texts included were actually erotic. It should have been called “romantic writings from the religions of the world” because so little of the writing had anything to do with sex, even in a more metaphorical sense.
Every time I read Yukio Mishima I’m reminded how much I love his style. The Sailor Who Fell From Grace With The Sea almost usurped The Temple of the Golden Pavilion as my favorite Mishima novel. I’m fascinated with the way that Mishima uses his characters to explore the circumstance of having very intense feelings or reactions towards something and simultaneously wanting to experience that, while also wanting to have complete control and not feel them at all. There’s a scene in this novel where Noboru and his friends brutally kill and dissect a cat; it’s an intense and vividly rendered scene, made all the more intense by Noboru desperately conflicted between feeling affected by the killing and wanting to force himself to feel nothing. The amazing subtle theme running through the book is the difference between Noboru’s intense emotions and his desire/struggle to control them and subdue them versus Ryuji’s more subtle emotion that grows through the book despite his natural reserve. I love endings like the one in this book, where it “cuts to black” and you don’t actually see the final act, it’s simply implied.
In 2016 or 2017, I ran lights for a showcase for the drama department at UPS (I can’t remember now what it was) that included a bunch of scenes from various plays. I remember a segment from Hir by Taylor Mac, and a scene from The Aliens by Annie Baker. In the scene that I saw, one of the characters describes how when he was a boy, he couldn’t stop saying the word ladder, and the monologue culminates in a full paragraph that is just the word “ladder.” I can’t remember who was acting in the one that I saw at UPS, but that monologue blew me away, the way that one word repeated 127 conveyed so much. This year a collection of Annie Baker’s plays came in at work so I sat down and read the whole play and it was just incredible. I’d love to see the full play live, it’s absolutely captivating.
Narrow Rooms by James Purdy was a total diamond in the rough. It takes place in Appalachia, in perhaps the 1950s although it’s somewhat hard to tell. It follows the strange gay entanglement between four adult men in their 20s, who have known each other all their lives. It traces threads of bizarre codependency, and the lines crossed between love and hate. The main character, Sidney, has just returned home after serving a sentence for manslaughter. On his return, he finds that an old lover has been rendered disabled in an accident, and that an old school rival/object of obsession has been waiting for him. This rival, nicknamed “The Renderer” because of an old family occupation, has been watching Sidney all their lives. Both of them hate the other, but know that they’re destined to meet in some way. Caught in the middle of their strange relationship are Gareth, Sidney’s now-disabled former lover, and Brian, a young man who thinks he’s in love with The Renderer. The writing style took me some time to get used to, as it is written as though by someone who has taught themselves, or has only had basic classes on fiction writing. But the plot itself is so strange and the characters are so stilted in their own internality that it actually fits really well. Like The Mustache, this book had one of the strangest, most intensely visceral and shocking endings I’ve read in a while. It was also “one that got away.” I read it at work, then put it on my staff picks shelf, and only realized after someone else bought it that I should have kept it for myself.
The Passion According to G.H. by Clarice Lispector blew my mind. I really don’t want to spoil any of it, but I highly encourage anyone who hasn’t read it to do. The build in tension is perfect and last 30 pages are just incredible. Lispector’s style is so unique and so beautiful and tosses out huge existential questions like it’s nothing, and I love her work so much.
Moscow To The End Of The Line by Venedikt Erofeev was another really unexpected book. It’s extremely Russian (obviously) and really fun until suddenly it isn’t. The main character, a drunkard, gets on a train from Moscow to Petushki, the town at the end of the line (hence the title), in order to see his lover. On the way, he befriends the other people in his train car and they all steadily get drunker and drunker, until he falls asleep and misses his stop. Very Russian, somewhat strange, and I was surprised that it was written in the late 60s and not the 30s.
Dr. Rat by William Kotzwinkle was what I expected. Weird in a goofy way, a bit silly even when it’s serious, and rather heavy-handed satire. The titular Dr Rat is a rat who has spent his whole life in a laboratory and has gone insane. The other animals who are being tested on want to escape, but he’s convinced that all the testing is for the good of science and wants to thwart their rebellion. Unfortunately, all the other animals who are victims of human cruelty/callousness/invasion/deforestation/etc around the world are also planning to rebel, connection with each other through a sort of psychic television network. It’s a very heavy-handed environmentalist/anti-animal cruelty metaphor and general societal satire, but it’s silly and fun too.
Confessions Of A Part-Time Lady by Minette is a self-published, nearly impossible to find book that came into my work. It’s self-printed and bound, and was published in the 70s. It is the autobiographical narrative of a trans woman who did drag and burlesque and theatre work all across the midwest, as well as New York and San Francisco, from the 1930s up to the late 60s. It was originally a series of interviews by the two editors, who published it in narrative form, and it includes photos from Minette’s personal collection. It’s an amazing story, and a glimpse into a really unique time period of gender performance and queer life. She even mentions Sylvia Rivera, specifically when talking about gay activism. She talks about how the original group of the Gay Liberation Front was an eclectic mix of all sorts of people of all sexualities and genders and expressions. Then when the Gay Activists Alliance “took over”, they started pushing out people who were queer in a more transgressive or unusual way and there was more encouragement on being more heteronormative. She mentions Sylvia Rivera and Marsha P Johnson, saying “I remember Sylvia Rivera who founded STAR – Street Transvestite Action Revolutionaries. She was always trying to say things – the same kinds of things Marsha P Johnson says in a sweeter way – and they treated her like garbage. If that’s what ‘order’ is, haven’t we had enough?”
Whores For Gloria by William T Vollmann was exactly as amazing as I thought it would be. I love Vollmann’s style, because you can tell that even though the characters he’s writing about are characters, they’re absolutely based on people that he met or saw or spoke to in real life. The main character, Jimmy, is searching for his former lover, Gloria, who has either died or left him (it is unclear for most of the novel). He begins to use tokens bought from sex workers (hair, clothes, etc) to attempt to conjure her into reality, and when that doesn’t work, he pays them to tell him stories from their lives, and through their lives he tries to conjure Gloria. This novel’s ending had extremely similar vibes to the ending of Moscow To The End Of The Line.
Prisoner Of Love by Jean Genet was a lot to take in. It was weird reading it at this moment in time, and completely unplanned. It’s just that I have only a few more books to read before I’ve made my way through all Genet’s works that have been translated into English, and it was next on the list. Most of the book focuses on Genet’s time spent in Palestine in the 70s and his short return in the 80s. He also discusses the time he spent with the Black Panthers in the US, although it’s not the main subject of the book. Viewing Palestine from the point of view of Genet’s weird philosophical and moral worldview was really interesting, because what he chooses to spend time looking at or talking about is probably not what most would focus on, and because even his most political discussions are tinged with the uniquely Genet-style spirituality (if you can call it that? I don’t know what to call it) that is so much the exact opposite of objective. It’s definitely not a book about Palestine I would recommend reading without also having a grasp of Genet’s style of looking at the world and his various obsessions and preoccupations, because they really do inform a lot of his commentary. It was also written 15 years after his first trip to Palestine, partly from memory and partly from journal entries/notes, which gives it a sort of weirdly dreamlike quality much like his novels.
Blackouts by Justin Torres was so amazing! It blends real life and fiction together so well that I didn’t even realize that most of the people he references in the novel are real historical figures until he mentioned Ben Reitman, who I recognized as the Chicago King Of The Hobos and Emma Goldman’s lover. The book follows an unnamed narrator who has come to a hotel or apartment in the southwest in order to care for a dying elderly man called Juan Gay. Juan has a book called Sex Variants, a study of homosexuality from the 1940s which has been censored and blacked out. Back and forth, the narrator and Juan trade stories. The narrator tells his life story up until the present, including his first meeting with Juan in a mental hospital as a teenager. In turn, Juan tells the story of the Sex Variants book and its creator, Jan Gay (Ben Reitman’s real life daughter). The book explores the reliability of narrative, the power of collecting and documenting life stories, and of removing or changing things in order to create new or different narratives.
Again, Clarice Lispector rocking my world! Generally I can read a 200-ish page novel in somewhere between 2 and 4 hours depending on the content/writing style. Near To The Wild Heart took me 9 hours to read because I kept wanting to stop and reread entire paragraphs because they were so interesting or pretty or philosophical. The story focuses on Joana, whose strange way of looking at the world and going through life makes everyone sort of wary of her. This book is so layered I don’t really know how to describe it. So much of it is philosophical or existential musings through the vehicle of Joana. Unsurprisingly, it’s a beautiful book and I highly recommend it.
I’m just going to copy/paste my Goodreads review for Skye Papers by Jamika Ajalon: This book had so much potential that just…fell short. I could tell that it was written for an American audience but the way the reader/Skye is “taught” certain British terms and/or slang felt a bit patronizing. The characters were fleshed out and interesting and I liked them a lot but the plot crumbled quickly in the last half of the book Things sped up to a degree that felt strange and unnatural, the book’s pacing was inconsistent throughout. Perhaps that was deliberate considering the reveal at the climax, but if it was, it should have been utilized better. If the inconsistent pacing wasn’t deliberate, then it just made the book feel strange to read. There were moments were I felt like there should have been more fleshing out of certain character relationships. Even with the reveal at the end and the explanation of Pieces’ erratic/avoidant behavior, I wish there had been more fleshing out of the relationship or friendship between her and Skye at the beginning, when Skye first arrives in London. Characters who seemed cool/interesting got glossed over and instead there was a lot more dwelling on Skye walking around or busking or just hanging out. I could have gone without the last 30 or so pages after the big reveal, where Skye went back through everything that happened with the knowledge she (and the reader) had gained. It dragged on and on and at that point I felt like the whole story was so contrived that I just wasn’t interested anymore. A friend who read this book before I did said she thought it was an experimental novel that just hadn’t gone far enough, and I completely agree with her. I think if the style with the film script interludes went further, into printed visuals or more weirdness with the interludes, more experimental style with the main story, or something, it would have been really good. It just didn’t push hard enough.
The Feather Thief by Kirk Wallace Johnson was a fun little true crime novel about a young flautist who broke into a small English natural history museum in 2009 and stole hundreds of thousands of pounds worth of preserved rare bird skins dating back to the 19th century. He was a salmon fly-tying enthusiast and prodigy, and old Victorian fly designs used feathers of rare birds. The book first goes through the heist and the judicial proceedings, then examines the niche culture of Victorian fly-tying enthusiasts and obsessives, and then chronicles the author’s attempts to track down some of the missing birds. It was a quick, easy read, but fun and an unusual subject and I quite enjoyed it.
In 2024 I don’t plan on trying to surpass or even reach this year’s number. I’m going to start off the year reading The Recognitions by William Gaddis, then I’m going to re-read a number of books that I come across at work or in conversation and think Huh, I should reread that one of these days. So far, the books I am currently planning to reread: Sometimes A Great Notion by Ken Kesey, As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner, The People Of Paper by Salvador Plascencia, Mrs Dalloway by Virginia Woolf, The Mustache by Emmanuel Carriere, McGlue by Otessa Moshfegh, Long Day’s Journey Into Night by Eugene O’Neil, Acid Snow by Larry Mitchell, and Nightwood by Djuna Barnes.

i present my stupidly long reactions/opinions post to all of natla. i wrote it all as i watched, and i got more and more words in my head as i went, so it gets long. no i will not be editing this. i am not a review blog, i just have opinions ajhgsfjkf
ep 1 good: -gyatso. i love him so much -overall this was a good enough intro, but not much really stood out to me as good?? it's. kind of a weak intro asjdhgsfh
bad: -fire nation helmets trying to look a little less dopey by adding angles to the eye sockets is stupid af. like i can understand why they might have thought the circle eyes looked dopey, but personally, it felt eery and othering to me, like there aren't people behind those masks. also it's closer to a skull motif than the weird angular half cirlce shape. -aang being able to basically superman fly?? and hover?? it looks really weird, and i also kinda breaks some potential future plots?? like, he can just. hover up into the air and fly away without his staff. and they seemed to have replaced aang's jumping with it. now he just starts hovering. -i dont like that katara doesn't bend aang out of the ice in rage. i dont really care about sokka dropping the blatant sexism, but i still think they should've been fighting about SOMETHING. even without the comparison of their jobs at home, they already had something to bicker about before losing the boat, they should've kept that up. katara's angry bending was such a good way to communicate her character as well as show viewers her raw power and that bending is effected by emotions, i really dont like that they dropped it. -there's a heavy lean into sokka's relationship with aang that's probaly a result of the writers knowing how much the fandom loves sokka lately, but also. it really feels like it's overshadowing katara's role in aang's new life. like, if i hadn't seen the original show, i would assume that the main relationship is aang and sokka from this episode.
overall a servicable intro i guess, but i was. boring. it was really boring asjhgsfh
ep 2 good: -zuko is an artist and they stole his fucking journal im screamin. this is so funny. he's so mad that he lost his fckin diary and aang is using it to figure out his next steps. im just. i love this -actually really liked that waterbending scroll as a gift from gran gran, it makes it a lot more personal and very smoothly sidesteps the original plot for the scroll, which you gotta admit is a lot of screentime that they dont have -sokka trying to impress and relate to suki and looking like a gotdamn fool while doing it. he's fucking smitten. i love this. AND SUKI STARING AT HIM WITH HIS SHIRT OFF LATER. yeah. yeah i like this better than the original episode actually -sokka's dialogue overall is amazing, mostly because he's funny. the funny dialogue is overall pretty good i my opinion. which leads into a bad point: most of the serious and heartfelt dialogue feels pretty unnatural. the actors are overall pretty inexperienced, but the script is doing them no favors
bad: -Lt. Jee has a topknot. how fukcing dare they -they just used "VIP" in a sentence. i dont like the acknowledgment of a latin alphabet. why do they have an acronym for an english phrase using the latin alphabet when we've seen no latin letters anywhere -aang meeting with kyoshi first was fun, but the weird filter they have over the spirit world (?)/the whole scene genuinely makes it hard to look at -NO UNAGI??????? NONE??? NOT A SINGLE GIANT EEL FISH???? -did momo just make a chimpanzee sound. im going. to lose it.
neutral: -zuko and iroh don't know zhao yet… that's fucking wack
a MUCH better episode than the first one, this actually got me excited for stuff
ep 3 good: -love this internal resistence. very cool aspect to explore that i think the main show was missing -CABBAGE MERCHANT -fire nation terrorists in omashu is kind of terrifying. i like it -ok the casting and costume design for the freedom fighters is actually spot on, i love it. also jet's weapon use is so faithful to the original, it's gorgeous -OOOOOOH, sokka's warrior vs engineer, hakoda vs machanist father figure is so good, i love this -THAT FUCKIN LADY WHO JUST STARTED SMACKING ZUKO. im fuckin choking -i did actually really like the fight scene between all the cloths and scaves and stuff, it was short but it was fun. honestly i love every zuko and aang in this episode, it's very good
bad: -did. did they say attitude control on the airship? …did they mean altitiude control…? is attitude a common problem with airships?? (maybe it is, idk shit about air travel terms. mybe attitiude means something else entirely. but i don't think so) -WHy. why are the fire nation spies wearing RED. wh
neutral: -putting teo and the mechanist ("sai" now) in omashu is a pretty decent way to combine plots, but im not sure if i like that it probably wont get aang's grief over his cultural home being changed and partially desstroyed. i always thought that was a super important to aang's character, but also the narrative does have other chances to lean into aang's cultural grief -putting JET in omashu. that's a choice. -Lt. Jee as an informant for zhao… that's wack
side note, this is the point where i really started to notice that the music is… boring. it's super boring. we go from what feels like basically background noise style western orchestral music which really isn't that notable to the credit role remaster, and it's jsut so jarring. have they not been using the og soundtrack?? i can remember hearing the fire nation motif, but like… not much else. might need to go back and listen. what's the point of remastering the soundtrack if you aren't gonna use it?
ep 4 good: -FLOPSY STATUES -im lovin zuko's infiltration thing, it's amusing to watch. but also, maybe a bad point, cuz he's not… very good at it. blue spirit who?? i suppose needinng to talk to people lowers his stealth exponentionally. there's a reason the blue spriit doesn't talk. im leaving this point here cuz im having fun, but it's still got problems -OOOOH they're using this as the iroh captured and zuko choosing to sasve him or find aang, that's clever. the whole "make a choice" thing from that guard was a bit on the nose though. -sokka and katara bonding and chatting about expectations is great. i really like them bonding a lot. HOWEVEER. there is a LOT of focus on sokka's burdens, we haven't once touched on what katara's been doing. this is. an unforseen consequence of removing sokka's (blatant) sexism, isn't it. they cant figure out how to give katara's role the same amount of value without someone to act like it isn't important.
bad: -the implication that sokka is scared of haunted tunnels. why would he be scared, this bitch does not believe in spirit nonsense. unless he does now. natla sokka is supersticious. -i really dont like the mad hatter's tea party vibe from bumi. like, bumi was always off his rocker, but this brand of kooky feels off. -while i like the conversation of soka not trusting katara, i really dont like the seeming personality reversal in the tunnel. it's minor, but it's just so weird to see sokka sasy stuff like "woo love leads the way" without mocking it, and katara beig the one who says that's stupid. -how did they manange to make zuko look older for his flashback. good lord. oh no. -bumi: "you vs me, to the death." im fucking. im so done. i hate this bumi i hate him. i understand him being upset that aang vanished, but he is so fucking mean in this. -ok i. do not like them giving the zhao v zuko agni kai ending to iroh. i really dont like that at all. we lose the point of zhao being a fuckin bastard, about zuko being the type to give mercy (which the show has already thrown out twice now from zuko almost blaasting fire in someone's face after they we on the ground and basically defeated. dont really like that change in character. they added all this awkwardness and these comments about what an honorable soldier shouldn't do, and yet they do this?? dumb), and having iroh defend him with ease. innstead it's replaced with "dont show mercy to earthbenders." ok. -the badgeermoles. sense feelings. and react to them. FEELINGS. im.
neutral: -THE SINGING NOMADS??? i thought this tunnel plto sounded like it could be similar to the cave of two lovers, but i really did not expect to see the singing nomads here. i do love them though -look, i dont care about shipping, but OOF. the poor kataang shippers. they're just throwing out all the kataang scenes but not building up an actual friendship in its place. i'm not a fan
bad episode. did not like this one. there were some goo parts, but overall it was just so disappointing compared to the original. on its own, i supposes it's a servicable episode, but so far, none of the others have really let me down this much in terms of expectations.
ep 5 good -ooooohh. i know this one is going to be controvertial, but i actually love the part where ozai corrects azula in the fact that zuko found the avatar, not zhao, and that he's displaying desireable traits in an heir that she seems to be lacking. like, i wish this came AFTER we had some blatant examples of ozai's favortism towards azula, but i do love the idea that ozai is driving their competition between each other. also that ozai is actually able to be proud of zuko IF he achieves those impossible goals he sets. but we still need more azula favoritism set up. -DID JUNE. FUCK ME, there was so much in two seconds hold on. the western whistle thing. june saying "your dad's kinda cute." she thinks iroh is cute, and she thinks iroh is zuko's dad. im. im fine. -WAN SHI TONG????? WHAT IS HE DOING HERE. my child. i did not expect to see my child in s1. overall, i'm relatively happy with him? wish his face was smaller or the resof him was bigger - he had a lot more poof to his head in the original, in imo a smaller face on the head would help make him look larger in solo shots. he looks pretty scrawny. also the voice is a bit too much old man for my tastes? but i'm picky about this bird. now im just super curious if there will be a library episode if s2 comes, and what that'll look like.
bad: -nothing has exemplified my problems with the changes in this show more than katara not throwing the acorn at aang's head. it's just. her attitude is gone, any whimsy that isn't sokka is gone, and they struggle to meld serious topics with humor. -actual gyatso in the spirit world?? maybe?? first of all, if it is actually gyatso, i dont think they did a good job of prooving that. second, why??? i'm really not a fan of aang actually getting that relief from grief and guilt. guilt is such a huge part of aang's character, i just.. idk, it feels less impactful when he gets actual gyatso telling him its ok instead of learning to manage his guilt on his own, nevere knowing really what gyatso would think og him now, like very other person who loses a loved one. it's just. it feels cheap
neutral -im not sure if i like koh as an actually malicious force in this story. like, it works fine for the narrative presented, but i really liked how koh was in the original, threatening and scary and trying to trick aang into making an expression for snack time, but not actually doing anything but helping aang when asked.
not the best episode, but not the worst. we just did that. it's kind of an in between, so idk if there's much to comment on. overall, im not a huge fan of the plot choices here, but i don't think they're actually bad choices, just not my style.
ep 6 good: -roku: im here to help you with anything you need aang: it has to do with koh roku: …anything but that roku has so much fuckin attitude, i kind of love it -zhao ignoring aang to correct the notetaker guys notes and make he gets his facts straight is both funny and an effective way to show off zhao's ego. also "what are you doing, dont write that down" is makin me think of that one kig who fell of his horse while hunting and said "dont let the historians write about this" and guess what fucking happened -the convo right after was really good imo. aang basically doing a lil test to prove that he and zuko could be friends with their boring old conversation was great. zuko getting mad about compassion is heartbreaking, woohoo. pretty much all around a fun scene, except that last line from aang was a little too on the nose. but at this point, im used to it in this show. -also the journal thing is still great. and i could be totally wrong, but i feel like zuko being super kowledgable about avatar stuff is a fanon thing?? well supported, but i'm pretty sure it doesn't actually come up often how much zuko knows about the past avatars, and fandom kind of took the idea that he MUST know a bunch given his search, and has freuently applied that to aus that turn zuko into this avatar specialist that actuallyhas a lot of info that aang needs. i swear that's a fanon concept, and i kind of love that it's happening here. -Ooohh. omg. the 41st as zuko's crew is DEFINITELY something i've only seen in fanon. the crew NOT KNOWING they were the 41st is completely new, and i honestly adore it.
bad: -not the fuckin mother of faces statue spinning around in his hand like a fuckin loading screen object -zhao yelling "cel - la - brate" like a fuckin party rock song, im. i cant. -blue spirit mask looks plastic. also why'd they make it angrier. i mean, i gujess it doesn't matter, but i dont think it adds anything either. that's a design you shouldn't touch in my opinion, it's too iconic. -the fucking music. the music is so fucking boring. you can't give me one fucking blue spirit motif?? wh. please. i need it -why. why did it take so long to do the whole "i need the avatar alive" and then swords to aang's throat. like. i could deal with that short moment of realization leadinng to a pause, but the actual action of zuko putting his swords to aang's throat feels like it takes forever. the whole shock from the animation was how fuckin immediate zuko's reaction was, how there seemed to be no hesitation from allies with the avatar to betting his life on escape. dont care if they have to speed up the footage, that whole sequence shouldn't have given us time to think. it was too slow from the second zhao told his soldiers to stop. -the agni kai. hm… ok. there's a lot here. at its most basic, i absolutely hate that zuko fought back here, because it feels so incredibly counter to the message of the animated show. like, there's a lot of fuckin weight to zuko's line of "i won't fight you." basically any fanfic can tell you a bunch of different ways this is important. it struck a chord for a reason. zuko fighting back just feels wrong. that said, i don't think it's a god awful scene. it's disappointing and abandons half of the origial meaning, but on its own in the context of the show as we've seen it, it works. we still get the trauma, zuko learns the idea that compassion is weakness, and it's still horrifying in the end. but compared to the original, it does feel like the writers here missed the point of zuko refusing to fight in the original, and that's the most frustrating part.
neutral: -torn on how i feel about zhao tagging along with zuko instead of them being phsycially separate. like, i guess it works, but zhao feels more slimey and less powerful this way. like, i'm not constantly reminded that zhao has more influence and more resources through this partnership. but then again, this episode also kind of solves that issue? i guess it doesn't matter, i just didn't like it. -zuko is a very vocal fighter, and he also makes a good amount of noise during his blue spirit fighting. i guess it doesn't really matter, especially cuz we dont have dante basco's crazy recognizable voice to deal with, but it still feels a bit disappointing for the blue spirit to make noise when we're used to dead silence
i might be going crazy, but i swear i heard some of the original guard grunts from the show when zuko's beating up the guards in front of his cell. i might be crazy, but fuck. ANYWAY. overall i did like this episode. going off the last episode, it still had a lot of plot bits i didn't care for, but overall it's good. yes there are issues, but im honestly more impressed by the things they introduced than i am annoyed with the things they changed. im still thinking about the 41st, like fuck
ep 7
good: -zuko's "ship" blew up!! that's an intersting change, but i think it's a clever one! though i do wonder what will become of zuko's actual ship considering it's fine. my favorite character, alive and well. have fun drowning, zuko. but also, this seems much more brutal to me?? cuz like. jee and iroh were trying to save zuko, and they ended up putting himself in danger in doing so. that's worse than just not being around when danger happened like in the animation, imo. -YUE HAS A FURSONA????????????? -i do love that whole scene of azula putting her foot down and refusing to do more of ozai's dumb little tests of strength. like, maybe not true to her animation arc, but i do like it -honestly the change where katara "wins" the fight with pakku not cuz pakku has a crush on her grandma but because everyone else who watched her figt thought she was badass was really nice. crowd vote says fuck pakku
bad: -OOF THAT FIRST SHOUT OF THE NORTHERN WATER TRIBE. oh that is not good. i haven't mentioned the cgi yet, but this is. oh dear. technically it's eas to miss, but still. -im so sorry, im sure she's lovely, but the first short of yue is so bad, she looks like she does not want to be here at all. i actually startedlaughing out loud wtf -oh i forgot momo existed. but now thtat he's here, he's ugly. i dont like him. -sokka and katara look so fucking pale next to hahn and arnook. i hate it
neutral: -im still neutral about azula and ozai's whole tough love thing. azula's lack of confdence and anger at not feeling good enough really feels like a zuko thing instead of an azula thing. she really doesn't come across in the original as worried at all about how she holds up next to zuko. in a vacuum, i don't think it's a bad choice, but compared to the original it is a jarring shift
overall pretty good. i dont like aang's protective behavior, but i do like that it's showing off some of aang's more negative qualities. we didn't get a bato episode or a intro to the storm episode here, so we haven't really encountered that yet. also im happy katara got to be sort of mad. a little.
ep 8 good: -i do like the early war balloons i think, it feels more reasonable that zhao snuck into the city vs got all the way back to the spirit oasis on komodo rhinnos withou being stopped or followed like they did in the original. -katara mastering waterbending literally without instruction is kind of badass. that whole exchange of "you've found a master haven't you" "yes, it's me" was pretty fun. idk how realistic it is, but like. in the original, she also masteredd waterbending in a matter of days, so. niether are that realistic -i kind of like how fuckin visceral the moon spirit getting stabbed is. like, minor change, doesn't matter, but still. that one shot of the bloody bag with a knife sticking out of it was lovely -ok that's spooky as fuck, the "there is no aang" thing with koizilla. like, the idea that this isn't just aang being possessed or lending his aide, this is him straight up giving up his life to la in that moment -that whole thing about zuko just beig a tool ozai uses to motivate azula was really well done actually. great acting, basically all that fanfic worthy revelation emotion, it was super good. like i was kinda thrown by ozai giving all control around hunter the avatar to zhao after seeming so impressed that zuko found the avatar in the first place, but really, i been played a fool. he doesn't care, he's manipulating azula. this is what the favoritism looks like. yikes. -also obsessed with the visual they talked about with aang/la wandering the world forever in search of a partner they wont find. this new context that koizilla really wasn't just a fuck you to the fire nation, it was meant to be permanent. like, fuck, i love that
bad: -OH THEY GOT RID OF ZHAO GOING TO THE SPIRIT LIBRARY i hate everything. what's the point. they're just gonna nix the library all together. wan shi tong is never coming back. sokka v wan shi tong will never happen. my entire career is over. -kuruk just appearing in a random doorway is wack -koizilla looks bad. baaaaaaaaaaad. where's the glowly lines -ok great yay we got zuko turning his back on zhao and getting attacked, but first of all that meant nothing cuz zuko DID ttry to kill him, zhao just dodge, and second, la should've taken zhao. i just. it's a more satisfying death for him, and also zuko's whole take my hand thing is super fuckin important too. but zuko in this show as a traumatic aversion to compassion, so whatever i guess.
pretty good finale, entertaining and got some good emotion stuff. better than most of the episode's emotions honestly
overall good: -before i speak i need you to look at my icon. scroll down the blog a bit. just take that in. ok? ok. i think zuko kind of carried the story here. overall i was very impressed by his acting, and yes, it was much more awkward and tear-ready than animated zuko, but also that's my fuckin jam. he's out of character in a lot of ways, but all the characters are, and like. lets be fucking real, this is fanon zuko. this is how the majority of fandom characterizes him. -set design was very nice in my opnion. casting choices (minus the water tribe sibs) were amaing visually, maybe no so much in terms of talent but we deal. while the costumes look too new and fee fake, it's not the worst. if you go into this expecting camp and trashy fun, you'll enjoy it. you can't set your standards high -once again, take a scroll through my blog. ok. i love how often aang is just like. clearly dissappointed with zuko's lack of desire to change, how much he wants to connect to zuko but zuko wont stop fuckin hissing and spitting. if aang got to have personality in this script, he'd basically be pointing at zuko like "that's my emotional support enemy," i swear to fuck. i might be pushing it on how much they were really like this in the narrative, but i dont care, im having fun asgjhdfh
bad: -momo and appa both look creepy. they give me realistic pokeon vibes, and not in the detective pikachu type of way. like, detective pikachu is what i was hoping for, something that preserved the cute and still felt semi real. this didn't do that. momo is weirdly top heavy and his eyes scare me, and appa has weird, ever present droopy lips, especially at the corners. it's just uncanny -i dont like how bending looks. it's okay i guess, but it's got so many extra busy particle effects that it feels uncontrolled. i always pictured masterful bending as being really smooth and pretty unnatural looking- smooth water bubbles, fire with weirdly contained flickers and not much smoke, earth without a bunch of crumbling pebblees, air without dust everywhere you dont want it. the wobbly water and earth bending with so many fuckin shards of debris and the firebening with so many sparks is disappointing cuz i would've worldbuilt that to be a lack of mastery thing. anyway. it's fine. -aang is not happy and excitable, and katara isn't angry or sassy. they have the personalities of cardboard boxes. rip.
i actually liked that a lot. lots of good and lots of bad, but overall i had fun and that's what matters. maybe not something i'd rewatch if i didn't have atla brainrot, but not fuckin god awful. the characters were pretty different from their animated counterparts, and that's very frustrating in its own way, and the script was full of poorly written dialogue, and the acting kinda of sucked in a lot of places, but. but. i had fun, and im probably gonna rewatch it, and im gonna enjoy applying these ideas to fanfic and fanart. overall, im glad it exists. it's not going to replace the original, it's not meant to, but it's just trashy fun. i love trashy fun.

okay so i’ve had three very loose ideas for fics and i really want to get started on writing one of them! so i’m going to write out three really rough synopsis of them and if anyone has any preference, comments, questions, ideas to make something better or anything at all please let me know ! i also want to note side ships/characters are very very underdeveloped so if you have any suggestions for them i’d love to hear them !
option 1 - twice band au (insp. daisy jones & the six) - in 1996 the all female pop-rock band ‘fatal flaw’ took the world by storm. their edgy style, seductive lyrics, and catchy sound made them impossible to ignore. critics thought they’d be a flash in the pan, after all they were just a group of friends who started a band in a garage. but the critics severely underestimated how much appeal a group of six beautiful women with captivating chemistry would have to the masses. their debut album ‘feels so good’ helped them get their name out there. however, their sophomore album ‘insatiable’ is what skyrocketed them to levels of fame they could have never prepared for. the group had the potential to go all the way, become a band that would inspire generations to come. but during their infamous world tour for their third album ‘glory days’ things came to a shocking end. halfway through the tour the band announced their last performance - and what a performance it was. their legacy has long surpassed their actual career. for years fans have wondered what caused the band to break up. and for years the members have wondered if any of it was worth it.
members: jihyo (vocals) jeongyeon (vocals + lead guitar) nayeon (vocals + bass) momo (drums) sana (keyboard) mina (vocals + rhythm guitar) content warnings for the story: drug/alcohol use, smut, profanity, addiction, cheating. (more may be added)
option 2 - misana!vampire x slayer!jihyo au (insp. buffy the vampire slayer x vampire diaries universe) - in every generation there is one human destined to protect the world from vampires, this human is known as they slayer. this generation’s slayer is park jihyo. at the age of fifteen jihyo killed her first vampire and since then her world has never been the same. forced to grow up at a young age, jihyo can hardly remember life before defeating the supernatural and keeping balance in the world. with training and guidance from her mentor, jihyo takes the duties of her role as slayer very seriously. one day she will rid this world of vampires, she just has to figure it out first.
mina is one of the world’s original vampires. in the early years of civilization, there was a small village in what is now modern day japan that is known to be the origin of the vampires. in a last ditch effort before an invasion, a group of powerful women gathered to sacrifice themselves to the gods to protect their village. mina doesn’t know what made her the way she is now, if it was truly the gods answering their prayers, some sort of witch craft, or some greater evil cursing them. all mina knows is that after the sacrifice she and a three other women had been reborn as creatures the world had never seen before. they gifted (cursed) with powers no being should possess. they were faster and stronger than any human could ever become. their bodies were regenerative, every wound would mend itself in just moments. they were the perfect soldiers and when the time came they defended their village with ease. but their new forms were unpredictable and the blood lust and eternal life were a surprise that cost the villagers their lives. the girls were insatiable and ripped through not only the attackers but their own people. over the years as they honed in their abilities and realized death would not come the original vampires drifted apart. as far as mina knows they’re all still alive-or whatever this state of life was called- and have since created several lineages of vampires that now infest the world. for centuries mina has isolated herself from the world after creating her biggest mistake: sana. now, desperate to find a way to end her life mina seeks out the slayer. mina wants to end her suffering, she’s tired of being alone, unchanging, and reminded of all the atrocities she’s committed. however, no matter how many times she tries to kill herself, nothing will work. on the other side of the world sana gets wind of mina’s plan and is dead set on stopping her. sana was the first person mina ever turned, their love so strong they wanted to spend an eternity in each other’s arms. however, when sana turned her humanity was switched off and she became someting unrecognizable. she has since built one of the strongest vampire clans in the world and can’t lose this empire she’s made. no original has ever died and she fears what may happen if one does... especially when it’s her creator.
jihyo is skeptical of mina’s intentions since she’s never had a vampire willingly hand themselves over to her. but she quickly realizes mina’s sincerity and agrees to help her with this crazy task. mina would be the first original vampire to ever die.
content warnings: smut, blood, death/murder, violence, profanity, probably alcohol, more tba.
option 3 - 3mix soulmate au (insp. soulmate countdown) - everyone is born with timers on their wrists counting down to 0 until they meet their soulmate. jeongyeon’s went off when she was performing at her first trainee showcase and she heard “finally now i have a same age friend” from the audience. her heart felt like it had stopped for a moment when she met a pair of big sparkly eyes and a bright smile a few rows down. jeongyeon and jihyo have been soulmates for ten years now. with the huge market that kpop is growing into, a sense of closeness and attainability is one of the biggest marketing tactics of the industry. no idol is to disclose their timer to give off the illusion that they could be anyone’s soulmate (though companies say it’s to protect their idol’s privacy). fans flock to fansigns and concerts with dreams of locking eyes with their idol and their timer stopping. others like to fantasize about members of groups having their souls intertwined and ship members as ‘soulmates hidden in plain sight.’ most shippers resent anyone close to their idol in fear they might be connected by fate. as one of the most famous kpop groups, ICON is closely monitored to make sure there is never any slip ups with their timers.
unfortunately all hell breaks loose when dispatch releases a photo showing jeongyeon’s timer: “00:00:00:00″. fans react as expected: shock, anger, resentment, support but most of all fans react with curiosity. in a frenzy fans try to determine who jeongyeon’s soulmate is. it doesn’t take long for several theories to pop up, but one theory seems to have much more traction than the rest: jeongyeon’s soulmate is nayeon. the ship had always been popular among fans as the duo had been close since their trainee days. plus, the had a certain allure with their push-pull dynamic that made fans go crazy. for years fans had theorized about their relationship, only now they were sure they had been right all along. ICON’s company realized the marketing potential of the pair and quickly pulled nayeon and jeongyeon into a meeting. the two would come forward as a couple and they would be able to push the soulmates angle, 10 years of friendship, they’d been through everything together and been in love through it all. despite jeongyeon’s protests and advocating for the truth because jihyo was still a member of the group and after all, it was THEIR story the company was trying to market - the company wasn't going to have it. before the meeting even ended the company already confirmed 2yeon’s relationship to the world despite it being completely fabricated.
members of ICON: jihyo (main vocalist, lead dancer, leader) nayeon (lead vocalist, center, face of the group) jeongyeon (lead vocalist) sana (vocalist, lead dancer, rapper, visual) momo (main rapper, main dancer) content warnings: tba.
*i almost made this a social media au several years ago so if this seems familiar that’s why!

Yo Shindo as a Boyfriend
Pairing: Yo Shindo x Reader
Summary: tHe title
Warnings: angst, yandere!Shindo, mentions of blood, trigger warning, mentions of abuse/punishment/whipping, blackmail, mentions of torture, mentions of death, fluff
A/N: Shindo is a creep. Bad vibes. Someone please change my mind.
BF Scenario Tag List:
@thedreadthreadanomaly
hmu if you’d like to be tagged!
Tumblr media
oooooh he’s cute, too cute... GORGEOUS AAAH
--
Yo is a cocky asshole who needs to be bitch slapped
I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again
Something about him… it might be just me, but Yo Shindo makes me really uncomfy. He gives off creepy guy vibes
That doesn’t stop him from being cute though
Midoriya and Momo’s illegitimate child
Yo is a lanky lookin’ hoe, but (as we’ve seen) he’s hiding some serious muscles under his grey polo
His demeanor screams “CUDDLES!!”
I really don’t know how to handle myself when boi starts sparkling
Yo has really pretty brown eyes
He has no problem doling out compliments to make you blush
To me, Yo Shindo is suave and smooth and he uses it against teachers, other girls, and especially you to get whatever he wants
Manipulative little bastard
When you first start dating, Yo doesn’t exactly trust you yet
Yes, you accepted his feelings with an adorable blush and shy smile, but how did he know you weren’t gonna cheat on him? Hmm?
That’s why he spent the first month of the relationship shattering your defenses and earning your love and trust, all while instilling in your mind that you belong to him
By the second month, you realize something is wrong. You want out of the relationship and you tell him so. Unfortunately, you were in too deep, and Yo’s true colors began to shine through
Overbearing, controlling, overprotective, manipulative, forceful, oppressing, depriving, nosy, strict, and a downright mean Yo Shindo took the place of the lure he had been only weeks before
Uses blackmail and guilt against you constantly
Don’t have friends that are guys
They will mysteriously die within the week
Don’t have any unisex names in your contacts because Yo will assume the worst
Don’t act bratty because he will tame you and show you who’s boss fairly quickly
Don’t have any questionable text conversations with your friends because he reads your messages
You know what? That evil munchkin in disguise would probably force you to let him read your goddamn diary
You’re not allowed to have passwords on your devices
You’re not allowed to leave the house without his permission or his presence at your side
Yo will punish you if you defy him or disobey his rules
I can definitely see him hurting or abusing you as a form of “discipline” or for no reason at all
Buys you expensive jewelry as an “apology”
Likes knowing that you depend on him for everything
Big on PDA → it shows people you are spoken for
“He’s just comforting his sad girlfriend.” with a vice-like grip on your throat
If you try to escape him while in public, he’s going to find you before you can get help. If you do find help before he gets to you, Yo is smooth and collected and will easily persuade the person that you’re just tired
After a few attempted escapes, you gave up completely since the punishment was so terrible
Takes his bad days out on you
If Yo finds out you’re afraid of something (the dark, bugs, etc) he’ll lowkey torture you instead of getting his hands dirty
He’ll lock you in a pitch-black closet, tease you with a spider he found on the wall, take you on a glass bridge or skydiving, hold you under the water; anything to make you beg or cry
Secretly hates watching you cry, he hates it when you back away from him out of sheer terror for his next move, he hates hearing you scream his name through a locked door, hates hearing your strained voice beg him to stop, hates the sound of you retching in the bathroom at two in the morning, he hates seeing the countless scars that mar your soft skin when he commands you to shower with him, he hates the sound of your whimpers and sharp cries as he spanks/whips you without mercy, and he hates the coppery smell of your blood when he came home from work one evening to find you with a knife sunk deep into your abdomen
But as he washed his blood-stained hands and listened to your pathetic whimpers and pleas for help, he shook it head
It was for your own good
If you don’t feel the same as me, that’s totally fine. All of the above was totally subjective. If you actually enjoy his presence, here are some fluffy hc’s for him that were REALLY hard to write.
Yo thrives on physical contact; kisses, hugs, cuddling in the evenings, holding hands, stroking your hair, resting his head in your lap, etc
By physical contact, that means you’ve gotta touch him too; sit on his lap, hold his face in your hands, card your fingers through his black curls, and initiate hand-holding, hugs, and kisses
Yo loves you very much
Being as handsome as he is, he gets a lot of attention from girls, but he has eyes for you and you only
Yo is very honest and prone to be very blunt, telling you outright how he’s feeling or how radiantly lovely you look
Not too much PDA, but just enough to let others know you have a boyfriend
Yo will spoil you rotten; he loves seeing the happy look on your face when you take a bite of something really tasty or you get something only he knows you want
Yo is really outgoing and smart, so he would woo you easily and then take you out on an amazing date
A relationship with him would be really stable, not a lot of fighting or misunderstandings since he’s such a nice guy and you guys are perfectly in sync
Although, he’s a big tease so you might bicker a little bit sometimes
He’s a really comforting person and can tell if you’ve had a bad day. Yo will pull you into his lap, press a few chaste kisses to your cheek, and ask you what the matter is
He can be a really good listener when he wants to
He’ll lay in bed and hold you close for as long as you need
Likes to cook for you and just take care of you in general. He’s so kind and gentle, you start feeling better really quickly if you’re sick
Yo is a jealous type, but he isn’t going to blame you for being so beautiful, ‘people can’t resist your charm.’ If a guy decides it’s a good idea to hit on you, Yo will be at your side with an arm around your waist and insult him really good
As the person backs off, he’ll go right back into loving boyfriend mode, asking you if you’re ok and supplying you with a comforting hug
“I’m right here princess, yeah. He won’t be bothering you again anytime soon.”

Zanpakutou Rebellion Arc Recap, p5
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Arright friendos, we are taking a little time out of people fighting their own zanpakutou for some Very Special Episodes about Byakuya Being An Ass. It’s so good. I love it. Buckle in for some Extremely Polynya Shouting.
Before we can get to that, though, Mayuri straight-up murders Gegetsuburi and then does a big WELP shrug while Omaeda stands there. So, uh, that happened.
Back to that weird forest where everyone has been fighting! Momo and Rangiku belatedly show up to the Hitsugaya fight. Ichigo is presumably about to give them the full blow-by-blow, when Muramasa stumbles out of a Garanta, all “hey guys, what’s going on in this thread?” Muramasa makes the bold claim that he and Ichigo have some sort of special bond, and Ichigo busts out this solid gold comeback:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
When did Byakuya get here? This is a recap, I do not follow the rules of continuity. Senbonzakura actually shows up first and fights Ichigo, and then Byakuya shows up (he’d been off freeing Tobiume and Haineko thanks a lot buddy). B announces that he has been doing a lot of thinking and he will now be betraying everyone he knows and cares about. Ichigo, as is his way, is very hurt and confused; Muramasa is like “sure, sounds cool to me.” We end scene with a single flower petal floating to the ground and Ichigo screaming “BYAKUYAAAAAAAAAA!” I love this arc.
NEXT EPISODE! Episode 241 is called “For the Sake of Pride! Byakuya vs. Renji” so you know I am all in already.
We’re back at the 4th Barracks, where Kyouraku and Ukitake are still hiding out to avoid doing anything. Ichigo is reporting on Byakuya’s betrayal, and Renji bless his heart, refuses to accept it. He gets in Ichigo’s face over it (like Ichigo, of all people, would make this up??) and then goes over to dramatically lean on the window frame and stare off into the distance. This is up there with the desk slap in terms of Renji Drama; I was howling.
Meanwhile, in the Cave of Zanpakutou, the zanpakutou are not exactly down with Byakuya ruining their cool frathouse vibe (Byakuya, for his part, looks absolutely disgusted to be in a cave). Senbonzakura, of all of them, declares that Byakuya needs to show his loyalty by… uh… uh… killing Sode no Shirayuki. Sode no Shirayuki makes an absolute “wtf, man” face, but goes with it. I honestly would have found it immensely satisfying if Rukia’s zanpakutou completely owned Byakuya, but unfortunately, that is not what happens here. Byakuya defeats her and she turns into a broken sword and Senbonzakura is like “WTF, MAN?!” The one part of this arc that I can’t actually remember is how they resolve this, because they’ve made a really big deal thus far about how if someone else kills your zanpakutou, it’s gone for good, and Jaysus, Byakuya, what a dick move! Byakuya DNGAF, and utters the absolutely God-tier “You could never comprehend my pride” which I immediately added to my “Byakuya’s Greatest Hits” googledoc (this episode also contains “If it is for the sake of my pride, there is nothing I won't destroy” which I already had in there). Anyway, this is apparently good enough for Muramasa, Byakuya is in, although Senbonzakura, who is definitely Has Regrets, tells Byakuya that he will be watching him (he does not do the little 2 fingers-to-the-eyes, I’ll-be-watching-you hand signal, which would have been the greatest thing ever)
SQUAD SIX TIME. Renji lets Rukia into Byakuya’s office to… look for his diary, I guess? They have a nice little deluded talk about how Byakuya would definitely not betray Soul Society, he would never. Renji has to go on duty, so he leaves her there with a little “don’t work too hard” because this episode is adorable. We get an absolutely loving pan of the offices, and because this is my blog, I’m going to describe them for you. Like Squad 10, Squad 6 has two couches, but the Squad 6 couches are striped. I feel in my heart that they are deeply uncomfortable, and that Renji has definitely spilled something on one of them and then flipped the cushions upside down. There is an entire huge wall of bookcases, which the wiki once explained as being related to Byakuya being into the history of Soul Society, but I think he would keep that shit at home. No, I think Byakuya keeps full sets of whatever the shinigami equivalent of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Standards are. I don’t know where I got the idea that Byakuya and Renji share an office, because this is definitely only Byakuya’s office, but I refuse to back off on that, because it’s funnier that way, and also Renji needs access to those ISO 9000 Guidelines for Memory Modification in Mortals.
Where the hell were we? Oh yeah, Rukia falls asleep in Byakuya’s uncomfortable-looking little desk chair. She wakes up with a “what is this reiatsu??” and runs out into the hallway where someone has been fucking shit up once again. Rukia steps over all the bodies on the ground because NII-SAMA! NII-SAMA IS HERE! but Byakuya refuses to answer and then Senbonzakura rolls in and dumps the broken pieces of Sode no Shirayuki in Rukia’s lap with a “Hey, did you know your brother is a gigantic dick? Just huge. FYI.”
Rukia hugs a bunch of sharp broken pieces of metal and sobs, which seems… like not the best idea, but who am I to judge? Senbonzakura starts to attack Rukia, who is still on the ground and RENJI IS HERE!! I normally do not like it when the dude characters show up to save Rukia, but Rukia is having a moment and also her sword is busted, and also Renji is hot mad at Byakuya. Are you ready for what happens next? Are you prepared? Because Renji attempts to detain Byakuya as a material witness and my soul left my body. Abarai Renji, Ace Attorney is canon. BLESS. Why did they make this episode for me and me alone?
They start fighting and THEN, my captain busts out with “I know you used Higa Zekkou recently, so you can’t go to shikai” and MY HEART! Y’all know how precious the Byakuya - Renji captain/useless vice-captain relationship is to me and here is evidence that Byakuya, a man who does not notice what is beneath him, knows the name of one of Renji’s attacks and also how many times per day he can use it. MY DINGDANG HEART.
Also, it matters NOT, because Saru and Hebi bust through a wall with accompanying guitar riff (I mean, they were gonna need to get a drywall crew in here anyway, I guess) “WE ARE HERE FOR YOU BRO ALSO WE, TOO, WANT A PIECE OF BYAKUYA”
Zabimaru takes on Senbonzakura while Byakuya fights Renji. Both of these fights are lit. A significant portion of Squad 6 definitely gets blown up. Renji starts shooting kidou at Byakuya. This goon. This absolute madman. At one point, he fakes Byakuya out by pretending to misfire a shakkahou and then he tries to use a fucking binding spell. On Byakuya. OH. MY. GOD.
Anyway, suffice to say, Renji does not win this fight. There is this brilliant framing where Rukia is still inside, trying to get outside to where the fights are, and Renji’s body just goes flying past in the background, FWUMP!!
Everyone’s just having a great time, when the rest of the zanpaktou show up and demand that Byakuya kill Rukia and Renji. Byakuya makes a pained “could we not?” face, but he doesn’t actually say no, and then the zanpakutou decide they’d rather do it themselves anyway.
And then, because this episode somehow feels like it hasn’t done enough for me yet, Renji, who is a pile of broken bones on the ground, begs Rukia to run away. But no! My girl stands over her busted up bae with her spiritless sword and does the whole “whatever loser, they’ll have to go through me first” thing. MY HEEaaarrRRRRRtttTTTT.
Then Soi Fon and the gang show up, and Ichigo yells, “hey Rukia, are you all right?” and it is, quite literally, that shitpost comic where Renji is lying in a pool of his own blood and Rukia has a tiny scratch and Ichigo is like “Rukia!!!!! NOOOOOO!”
Anyway, tune in next time for BIG FIGHTS.

SHAKES U ELABORATE ON TDMM TIMETRAVEL AU PLEAES
*IS SHAKEN AROUND AND MY SINGULAR BRAIN CELL MAKES A COWBELL SOUND AS IT HITS THE SIDES OF MY SKULL* AFADSFADSFI I FORGOT THAT I ONLY TOLD CECE ABT THIS AHAHAHA
basically so there’s this tdmm prompt thing going on and almost none of the prompts appealed to me but one (the time travel au), and then my imagination spiraled from there, and i THOUGHT about writing it, but then i looked more closely and saw it asked for basically this really awkward situation that came out of implied smut and i was like *unfiltered disgust* i take this prompt and the spirit it contains and replace it with my own, cooler, character-driven idea which is as follows
it is very long. it is like 2k words as just an idea. it is going under a cut. it’d probably also be rated m for stuff like discussions of sex n stuff and i’m a weenie who can’t rlly talk abt stuff like that outside of a joking context w/o being hella awkward
technically i’m not supposed to talk abt this but since i’m not doing it for the event (and in fact haven’t the time to write it even remotely soon), i’m gonna call a technicality and talk about it anyway
basically, if momo gets taken into the future (and comes back from it, obvs), then she and future todoroki are aware that this was a thing that was gonna happen and are like “yeah i don’t think it would be a good idea to scar past me like that” which also kind of gives me an excuse for momo to be shocked when todoroki knows what’s going on.
i think i’m gonna launch her five years into the future for this one, so they’re like newlyweds w/o kids. anyway, future todoroki fills her in on what’s going on, and fortunately, she doesn’t have work that day or anything, and he takes the day off to keep her company.
meanwhile, future momo in present momo’s body has to hunt down the quirk user to get hit again because when she was hit, the people she was working with fucked up and went to go check on her. so now they have this fucking mystery dude who hit her with a quirk and sent her back in time, and she’s like “aight my time has come” and so basically it takes place over the course of a week.
future momo makes a little diary for past momo to read when she’s in the future, and so future momo thinks she’s got it bc she can vaguely remember what the diary said when she read it at that age, but it turns out that bc she’s so new to diary-keeping that she doesn’t exactly fill in all the perfect details, so she has to improvise as she goes along.
anyway, because this happens over the course of the week or so (maybe extend to a month? a bit longer maybe?) todoroki has to come up with an excuse as to why his wife hasn’t left the house and why he’s been off work for so long. he panics and says she’s pregnant, and when past momo finds out she freaks out bc she hadn’t really given her relationship to todoroki much thought in the past but now they’re like, actually married, huh, that ring on her finger actually means something, doesn’t it? and that means that, since they’re married, they’ve like, banged.
and she gives todoroki this kind of frightened look bc inside, she’s still just sixteen or seventeen, and she’s not ready for this kind of thing. and todoroki knows what she’s asking, he can read her face, and while he feels really awkward and kind of silly he just kind of starts explaining where babies come from, and she has to be like, “no. no oh my god i know where babies come from. i’m asking if i might. if it might. y’know. be real. right now. right here.”
and there’s this pause, and it freaks momo out, but eventually todoroki says it’s very unlikely. they’re still settling into their careers and their lives as newlyweds; it’s very improbable that she’s pregnant.
and momo’s relieved, and she turns back to the diary and she finds her class notes in there w/a note saying “i know all this already now but i took notes for you to learn as well as some things i otherwise would have learned the hard way”
anyway as future momo is in class in the past, she sees todoroki and is very “aww how cute” by how he looked back then, and knowing him the way she does now, she hits on him in the exact chaste way that makes him start seeing her in a different light.
meanwhile, in the future, momo asks todoroki that, if they’re married, and have told each other all these things about each other, does that mean he told her how he got his scar? and he nods, and he tells her, forgetting that this will be the first time she’s heard it from him.
meanwhile, in the past, young todoroki has pulled future momo into an empty hall or closet or smth and tells her his backstory bc it’s not public knowledge that past n future momo have switched consciousnesses. future momo, already knowing this and knowing him is Soft™ and offers her sympathies n comfort in the way he needs. like she offers him her hand or something and a calm, understanding smile, and he’s just like. *touch* and they have a Moment.
past momo, hearing this for the first time, basically crashes and needs some time to process it, so todoroki gives her some time alone while he goes into the hero office to do paperwork. n she processes it, spends her afternoon studying the diary (i.e. the opportunity to flash back to what future momo is doing to track down the guy) and her schoolwork, and maybe kyouka ends up calling her or w/e bc surely other characters are gonna talk to her too, right?
and she tells jirou abt what’s going on assuming that she knew and jirou’s like, “wait are you serious?” and so momo’s like “whoops actually don’t tell anyone please cover for me” and jirou’s just like “wink wonk gotcha but anyway when was this?” and momo has to tell her abt the time when she got launched forward n time and jirou’s just like “ahh yeah i remember that time. you did xxx things and it was super duper cool. guess that was actually future you, huh?”
and momo ends up wondering if she, as in herself who she is right now who will someday grow into that future momo doing all this cool stuff, can really do what appears to be happening in the diary. it seems so outrageous and creative and can she really do all that?
and todoroki comes home and sees past momo worrying over the diary, and she asks if she can really do all that? what if she fails? what if she’s never going to back to her normal life in high school?
and todoroki shushes her down, saying that he trusts his wife. and then he kisses her on the forehead bc he loves her, has loved her for years, but he also knows that’s the scared, sixteen/seventeen-year-old her in there. and momo quiets, her heart racing bc surprise surprise her crush-turned-hot-husband is showing her genuine intimate physical affection in a situation weirdly reminiscent of the “i voted for you” scene, but, like, more sweet. and intimate.
and she starts wondering why he fell in love with her, because she knows why she fell in love with him, but then she realizes she can ask him this, and he tells her, and she watches him as he stares off into the distance all soft, and she realizes he really misses her. the older her, with whom he’s built his life.
and she asks if she’s ever done anything for him in the same way he’s done the “i voted for you” thing for her, and he pauses, comes back down to earth, and says she chose his hero name for him. and she’s like “wait what’s your hero name” and he doesn’t tell her (bc the point is that she’ll go back to the present after getting to know what he ends up as and picks a name for him based off that).
and she’s frustrated, and she wants to do smth for him now. maybe cue a scene where she asks him to have sex or smth bc she wants to make him happy while he misses his “real wife” or w/e i’m gonna have to figure out how to work that and he immediately shoots it down, and they have an argument about power dynamics and whether it’s okay just bc she’s in an older body. what if she switched back while he was gone, huh. would he then. “all right then. when’s our anniversary.” and she loses the argument.
meanwhile, back at the farm, future momo’s thinking abt how to track down the future quirk launcher person while at a girls’ sleepover, and ends up catching someone giving out bad advice and is like, “wait a second. i disagree. *insert good advice here*” and all the girls just stare at her with awed stars in their eyes like “wait yaomomo you’re so matureee omg omg omg” and she’s pleased bc she just seeded like three different relationships going forward in more mature ways
then they ask her about todoroki, and she’s like, “ahhh shit” and so she talks about him as like a person, and they’re like “holy shit yaomomo you can read him that well?” and she remembers, “oh fuck. i’m not supposed to know all this”
so the girls hatch a plan to ask todoroki if he likes momo, and so that happens in momo’s peripheries while she realizes she’s found the quirk person and needs to do the thing, but meanwhile, it kind of dawns on past todoroki that he has a crush on momo and comes up with a plan to confess.
he catches up to her on her stakeout, and is like “yaoyorozu!!” and she turns around right as she spots the villain and she gets hit again, and they switch back into their respective ages, and first of all, adult momo sees her husband again and she’s just like “!!! shoto!! i’ve missed you so much” n they kiss.
n right before young momo switched back, she was reading the diary and realized that even though the plan was written out, older momo never said how it played out or anything (bc she never got to write it down bc they switch back), and she starts freaking out and crying to todoroki, and so when older momo comes back she’s already got tears on her face, and anyway, young momo finds herself face to face w/todoroki, who just confesses, catching her off-guard, and she realizes she’s the one who has to catch the villain now
she panics for a second (and todoroki mistakes this for her hesitating/not liking him back) and says she has to go, and she runs off after the villain bc she can’t just let them get away like this, and todoroki runs after her bc fuck man he needs his answer, and while they’re running, she explains to him what happened (he gets mindfucked) and how they need to catch this guy, and they do it together and it works!! and she’s so relieved and happy and looks at todoroki and realizes he’s still waiting for an answer so then she basically confesses back to him
and that’s technically the end, but i mean obviously, we need an epilogue. for the young vers, they have articles out abt the villain they apprehended together, n todoroki realizes he doesn’t rlly like his hero name, n he n momo are hanging out together and she realizes this is it, this is the moment she chooses his hero name, and so she picks one out for him, and his eyes just kind of light up with this kind of dawning realization that hey!! that’s actually really good!!! and that’s his hero name now. and uhhh for the older vers idk they go out on a date or smth idk. do implied married people stuff.
#asks#if i were to make this into an amotodan au i'd need equally elaborate plots for izch krbk AND kmjr that also intertwine with this one#which is basically saying 'god this would be so fucking epic but the plot itself... so much work aaa'#honestly if i ever did write this the moment i'd look forward to most#would def be the bit where older todo talks abt what he loves abt his wife bc that's cute#i think if i were to combine this into one huge super duper complicated plot involving a bunch of the other charas#eri would def show up and catalyze izch. i think it would be fun to have krbk get into a big dramatic fight#that ends up with the whole school literally watching them duke it out on the front lawn while they scream abt their emotions#camie runs a shop in the background and mina's a regular who sits around and drinks boba or smth#jirou's doing some snooping around to find out why the school exists in the first place and meets kaminari in an office#in a cat maid outfit and he's like 'i can explain'#and his explanation is that he got caught snooping around trying to find out why they were all there#and then the crazy admin caught him in the vents and said to make it up to them he could do stuff for them#in a cat maid outfit. obvs#another fun thing abt amotodan were the annoying fangirls that helped drive the plot. i think that would be fun to include#anyway ahhhh yes. if you read amotodan you'd see where i'm pulling a lot of those ideas from ahahaha#this time travel tdmm plot tho that's basically just me hehehe#BY THE WAY IT'D BE CALLED 'TIMELESS TRUST' WHICH IS FUN BC THAT'S THE NAME OF THE TDMM PROMPT FEST THING#stardust-make-a-wish

Haikyuu!! Idol!AU Girl Group Edition
So, it’s finally here.
DISCLAIMER: References are more K-pop than J-pop and concepts and songs are from groups I am familiar with.
The Group at a Glance
Dubbed as the Nation’s Girl Group. A permanent group formed from a reality competition/survival show (very much like Produce 101/Produce 48), and they were the final members chosen by the viewers.
Though in their case, they wouldn’t just promote as a whole group, but they would also promote at least two different sub-units (very much like LOONA), then there’s also a group with chosen members to represent the whole group based on the concept given (kind of like NCT with NCT U).
They’re a diverse group, and can pretty much sell different concepts earning them a reputation of being like a ‘chameleon’ group because they can adapt rather quickly.
Full of good looking members, all visual material, but don’t be fooled because these girls are dorks and most of the members are very competitive and that makes for a good variety show content.
Has a group Youtube channel where they showcase song and dance covers and also features member of the day vlogs.
 Concepts/Songs:
Overall concept or a whole group concept that best represents them would be WSJN’s Secret. Or I.O.I’s Crush. Though there’s also Twice’s Fancy and Feel Special, but I guess that’s later in their career as a group.
There’s also IZ*ONE’s La Vie en Rose, gugudan’s A Girl Like Me and The Boots, SNSD’s Mr. Mr. and Lion Heart, and Twice’s TT.
Sub-unit songs leaning towards girl crush concepts: gugudan’s Not That Type, Pristin V’s Get It, Red Velvet’s Bad Boy and Psycho, Everglow’s Bon Bon Chocolat and ITZY’s Dalla Dalla to name a few.
Sub-unit songs leaning towards cute, innocent concepts: Apink’s I don’t know, GFRIEND’s Glass Bead and Navillera. There’s also SNSD’s Oh, I.O.I’s Very Very Very, Twice’s Signal and Cheer Up, Red Velvet’s Dumb Dumb and Red Flavor, Twice’s What is Love? for starters.
Other songs: Red Velvet’s One of These Nights, I.O.I’s Downpour, gugudan’s Diary, 2NE1’s It Hurts and Lonely.
More songs that units can do: TaeTiSeo’s Twinkle, Red Velvet’s Be Natural, Sonamoo’s I Think I Love You, Twice’s OOH AHH, KARA’s Step, and T-ARA’s Lovey Dovey. I don’t know. These songs sound fun for them to do.
Girl groups have a wide range of concepts so they pretty much touched most of them. They also have their fair share of covering boy group songs and dances so there’s also that.
The Members (in order of age)
Haiba Alisa – Alisa is the oldest member of the group and serves as sub-vocal, and visual. She’s also the actress idol among the group, and prior to joining the show, she’d been training as a model and actress. The darling onee-san, known for her delicate mannerisms and remarkable sense of style. She’s always doting on her members especially the younger ones.
My reference for idol Alisa is SNSD’s Sooyoung.
Misaki Hana – Hana is the second oldest and serves as vocal and dancer of the whole group. She’s the sub-leader of the whole group and is the leader of one of the sub-units. She’s quiet but a versatile member, and is considered an all-rounder because give her anything, she can handle it. Was already known in some form prior to joining the show because during her trainee days, she was featured in one of her agency’s boy group MV as the leading lady.
gugudan’s Hana is my reference for idol Hana.
Michimiya Yui – Yui is the leader of the whole group, as well as the other sub-unit, serves as lead vocalist and dancer. She’s known within the fandom as the crybaby leader, flustered leader, because much as she tries to keep it in, she’s really emotional and she cares a lot about the members of the group. She’s chosen as the leader even though she’s not the oldest because time and again, during the show’s course, she’s always shown helping contestants, whether they’re in the same group or not, improve and this endeared her to the viewers.
Twice’s Jihyo is my reference for idol Yui.
Suzumeda Kaori – Kaori is the main rapper and lead dancer of the group. She’s one of the girls from her agency to be included in the final line-up. Basically has reverse charm because she’s quiet and sweet when in front of the camera, but when performing, she shifts into a lethal rapper and dancing machine. She’s also a good producer and has had a hand on some of the group’s releases.
Pristin’s Nayoung is my idol reference for Kaori.
Yamaka Mika - Mika is the group’s main vocal. A skilled songwriter as well, something she got from her father who’s a composer. Came from one of the big talent agencies so there was quite a lot of pressure on her to do well, which she did because she has the voice to prove it. The only member revealed to be in a relationship (much to the fanboy’s dismay), but they still support her, since her boyfriend seems to be really sweet and good to her (base from her Insta stories).
I.O.I and WSJN’s Yeonjung is my reference for Mika.
Shimizu Kiyoko – Kiyoko serves as the groups vocal and another visual. The ice queen-slash-winter goddess, as the fandom dubs her. She’s quiet and generally a poker-faced beauty but has some sort of 4d personality, especially when she’s ‘playing’ around with the younger members. The group’s representative to anything athletic, as she used to be part of the track team during her middle school years. The group’s dark horse when it comes to variety shows, because of her witty one liners. Has the most fanboys out of the members.
Red Velvet’s Irene is Shimizu’s idol reference.
Nametsu Mai – Mai is the main dancer of the group, and also serves as sub-rapper. The ‘dance cover diva’ as she’s known, she’s already a bit famous prior to joining the competition show because of her cover channel that has at least a million views on average and had been an instructor in one of the elite dance studios in the country.
SNSD’s Hyoyeon is Mai’s idol reference.
Shirofuku Yukie – Hails from the same agency as Kaori, and serves as the group’s other lead dancer and sub-vocal. The mukbang queen who is always seen eating in the background whether in behind the scenes videos or official videos, but she’s also the group’s chef and seems to be really knowledgeable about nutritional values of food and such.
Yukie’s idol reference is Twice’s Momo.
Amanai Kanoka – Kanoka is the group’s other rapper and dancer, is in charge of the height of the group as she’s the tallest member, with Alisa coming in second. Another representative for anything athletic as she used to play volleyball before she joined and trained to be an idol. Has a cute and undeniable crush on a famous rapper Ryuu, which she cites as her major inspiration (actually his song is what she used for her audition).
Sonamoo’s NewSun is my idol reference for Kanoka.
Yachi Hitoka – Yachi is the group’s maknae and is a dependable all-rounder despite being the youngest, although she’s mostly vocals and sometimes, sub-rapper. She’s the only daughter of a famous designer so she’s somehow known in that particular circle but she wanted to make a name of her own, so she decided to train as an idol. Has a good eye for design and has had a hand in designing the group’s official logo and some of their album covers.
Since I can’t choose, I have two idol references for Yachi: IZ*ONE’s Yena and Twice’s Dahyun.
BONUS:
Tanaka Saeko – I really wanted to include Saeko in the group, but she’s a league of her own and can’t be tamed so I just made her a rapper/soloist that has a girl crush, hip-hop concept/genre from the same agency that manages the activities of the group which basically means collaboration can happen. Elder sister of the rapper Ryuu, and they started out as a duo especially during their Youtuber days, but they both wanted to be able to stand on their own, so they signed independently from each other. Produces and writes most of her songs, and is also a skilled instrumentalist, particularly drums, and is adept with playing taiko.
Think of 2NE1’s CL, as she’s my reference for idol Saeko.
(Saeko-neesan be like: naega jeil jal naga~)
I’d really want their collab song to be 2NE1’s I Love You. I think that would be so rad.
Anyway, that’s it! There are more idol au HC’s here.

Buko no witchy academia
(its short sorry I know it sucks but hope ya like it..I own non of the bnha characters)
"Todoroki and Midoriya" Midoriya reads the seating list, with a light blush to his face. Not that he was grateful to sit with Todoroki but, oh dear god could his flustered self not have a magical malfunction while being around his bi-colored crush for once? Ever since the sports festival, Midoriya had warmed Todoroki up into being friends, and its been great the only problem was Midoriya had a huge crush on him and was scared the other didn't go that way. Or that Todoroki was still in the broom closet?!? Midoriya just went over and took his seat, then when Todoroki came over he pretended like his heart wasn't beating out of his chest. "So I guess we're desk mates now?" Todoroki says with a blank face, though the way Midoriya responded made him add "I hope I didn't sound rude, I mean I don't mind just...making it known." It was awkward for Todoroki who unknown to Midoriya was crushing on the broccoli boy. Though with the encouragement of Momo, Todoroki was trying harder at making small talk and maybe one day he'd confess. The only problem for Todoroki is that, Todoroki was still in the broom closet, the only one who knew was Momo because she caught him staring at Midoriya's butt once and she talked to him in private. During their free time Midoriya started writing in his journal, it was more like a diary, it was a way for him to vent, write small reminders, or make goals. He did write about how he was crushing hard on Todoroki and wished he had the confidence to try and at least confess. When the bell rings Midoriya tried to stuff his books into his yellow bookbag and head for the dorms but, its futile and he's unaware of his journal falling out. Hearing a soft thud, Todoroki sees the slightly warn book and picked it up. He opened it to see that it was Midoriya's, curiosity crept in. 'I wonder maybe if I read it, I'll find out whether I'd have a chance with Midoriya?' but then the angle on his shoulder said  'No you idiot that's an invasion of privacy and dishonesty' 'who cares do you wanna find out or not?' asked the tiny devil 'I do but-' 'but nothing here's your chance and you may never get it again, and with your track record for striking up conversation, You better take it as a blessing.' So with that Todoroki walked out of the classroom with the book, he'd take it too his dorm to read. In the dorms Todoroki sat on his bed, flipping through pages of small rants about Bakugou or the hard work he's done to better his magic until finally. "Boys?" That was the top journal entry on page thirty four. Reading it to himself with each sentence and word, Todoroki's blushed and became flustered. 'Todoroki-kun is my crush gosh darn it why'd it have to be him...well at least its not Kaachan, yuck. I like Todoroki-kun alot and I hope I'm not to obvious. He's so strong, kinda mysterious due to how quiet he is. Hopefully we can be friends though if that's all we can be that'd be fine too. Okay its been a while I know but oh gosh, well Todoroki is warming up to me and is talking more, which I'm happy about. Turns out he's been through some stuff, he didn't elaborate much but I don't expect him to. He's really sweet, I can tell he has a very fun side, I like his small smiles and chuckles. He's smart and cool. I really wish I could confess to him.-' Todoroki sighed "I can't read anymore, I've got the information I need and should return this, I've already breached his privacy by reading it." Getting off the bed, Todoroki holds the book firmly and grabs his phone pushing it into his pocket he heads to Midoriya's dorm. Knocking on the door, Todoroki waited for the green haired male to open it. When the door opened Midoriya smiles "oh hi todoroki-kun what's up?" Todoroki then holds out the journal with a smile "you dropped this so I thought I'd return it." Midoriya happily took the journal back "thank you so much Todoroki-kun" before the older boy could close the door Todoroki couldn't control himself and grew close to him. Looking up with a blush on his face Midoriya stammered out. "u-uh T-todoroki-kun w-what are you doing?" Todoroki reached out using one arm to hold midoriya by his waist while the other cornered him in the doorframe. With out a verbal answer todoroki leaned in and softly pressed his lips to Midoriya's. Wow they were soft, Todoroki's lips held a feverish heat to them which only enticed Midoriya more kissing back. they weren't swapping tongues or sucking face, just kissing softly, it seemed to turn into a loving and caring type of kiss before the two needed air and they pulled away. Looking deep into each other's eyes with lids half covering and gasping lightly. "W-wow, m-my first kiss." Todoroki had realized what he'd done and seemed to be a tad nervous but, Midoriya didn't seem to care, he pulled Todoroki in taking him to the bed and tugged him into a kiss. Midoriya couldn't get enough of the feverishly pink lips that pressed to his. Todoroki crawled into Midoriya's lap while kissing back, wanting to be as close as possible. Fingers comb through the bushy locks of green while Midoriya's gentle scarred hands wrapped around Todoroki's waist. Both the elemental an generalize witch didn't want to part again from their tender affection but they were running out of oxygen Breaking the kiss once more they gave small smiles before Midoriya spoke up. "I love you Todoroki" With his scarred face cupped byt scarred hands Todoroki gave those hands a soft peck before his eyes trailed back to Midoriya "I love you too..you enchant my heart." Midoriya couldn't take that seriously and busted out laughing which confused the half n half witch. Still Todoroki loved the sound of Midoriya's laughter, it was so innocent and playful. "that was so cheesy Todoroki, I love it." Todoroki remained confused but soon ended up chuckling at his new laughing lover. "so we're boyfriends now?" Asked Shoto who smiles when Izuku nods.

Todomomo Head Canons ii !
More TDMM stuff !!!
OMG, the last one received so much lovee. I think I’ll turn to write head canons and turn them into fan fics would be a cool idea. lmao.
Shoto is a dork. He wouldn’t notice anything like dirty jokes, puns or teasings. When the girls accidently teased Momo of her admiration for Soto as a crush, the entire class thought she had a thing for him, which is true since she blushed so red like his hair. Yet, to him, he just thinks that Momo doesn’t being in the spotlight and likes him as a friend.
When Izuku and Ochako became an item, he was curious how they got together and would ask them how. Even when Izuku went into details, he would still be confused. So you two are.. getting married? ( No, dating doesn’t meant immediate engagement, Shoto. )
He has always been afraid of thinking about his future family. His father hasn’t been the exact good figure and his mother wasn’t around when he was a teen. He just thinks that maybe his father will put him in a quirk marriage but he’s sure he’ll say no to it.
Momo, despite being rich and all, doesn’t want much. When it was her birthday, his sister told him to get her flowers. Being naive, he bought a hundred red roses to her and gave it in class. Aizawa was like, “ Well, should I declare Yaoyorozu as a Todoroki? ” in his bean bag.
Kyouka had everything recorded. Denki did too, incase Mineta came to destroy it.
Momo used it to decorate her dorm, some in her bedstand, some on her study, some in the bathroom, and some, pressed and kept it in her diary.
The girls were very excited about it. Tsuyu even said it looked like a proposal. Ochako disagreed, saying that, it was their pre-wedding debut.
During their second year, the Yaoyorozu family had some crisis financially, they had to sell some of their other estates in the country, one of them was where Momo grew to love. She sadly had to let go of it and promised to buy it back one day.
The only person she told this was Kyouka, who tried to cheer her up by joking that ‘ what a rich problem ’ it was.
Since, it was a change, her parents decided to ask Momo to create some large cash for them. Momo hates the idea but she had to. She decided to cut her hair as she started to see the world more now that she’s not being shelthered.
It got shorter when they had hero training and Katsuki grabbed her hair, she created a knife to cut it off. The girls helped her trim and comb it later but it was shorter than her shoulder.
Shoto commented that it makes her looks more mature. She thanked him but she’s annoyed by her hair since she couldn’t tie it anymore except for pig tails which looks silly.
Aizawa had a scolding for Katsuki later.
When they had their midterms again, Shoto started to fail since his father was badly hurt in a fight. Momo asked him to comeover to her study group and his grades got better.
In return, he got her a chocolate box since she loves sweets.
Momo learned to make her objects half done. She tried to make Wolverine claws from her fists and had them poking from her skin for fights. Tsuyu and Shoto thought it was cool but the others find it scary. Having blades and spiky things poking from your body isn’t very attractive, apparently.
They began to work with each other more. By the second Semester, they had gotten closer so much that Momo doesn’t feel flustered with him anymore.
Aizawa had a crazy talk with All might and Nezu. Since his class is rather destructive. Damn you Bakugou. He thougt of a co-parenting project of a baby. He let them choose partners but all girls must be pair with a boy ( Since they have less girls than boys ). TDMM paired up.
This is no ordinary baby robot. It’s a robot that the school someone made it to look like a mix of the students. Yes, even the boys’ pair like Katsuki and Eijiro. When Momo went to get hers, it was twins since she got the top grade and Shoto was a top student, why not make it harder for them.
The twins were a boy and a girl, one with half red and black hair and grey eyes. The other had black, white and red with blue eyes. The boy doll suddeny brethe out fire and they class was SHOOK.
“ I think the teachers had too much fun in this ”, Momo said. “ Agreed ”, Kyouka cried. Hers and Pikachu was a girl with Denki’s hair and Jirou’s ears. The doll suddenly created a volt and shocked Kyouka. They had too much money and free time.
They had to make arragements. Every night they would switch babies but the boy ( They call him Red ) was mostly at Shoto since he’s flammable and the girl doesn’t do much but needs a lot of attention or else would cry.
Katsuki had the worst. His is heavy as a rock and would scream 24/7.
Ochako’s would float around and cry and Tenya’s had an engine to it to blast tapes.
One day, Aoyama’s baby stopped crying and it made a signal sound, It was dead so he and his partner, Shoji, fail 1/4 of their health class.
Momo was so scared that one of her dolls would die. She made sure to feed it( with its fake bottles ), pat it, and took it everywhere. She noticed that she and Shoto had to stay together often or else the twins will cry.
Momo accidently called her mama and called Shoto papa when they were in his room.
It made him think about having a future family with his future wife lookign somewhat like Momo.
When it was time. Aizawa took all the babies’ memories and showed their scores on the projector. For TDMM, he trolled them and choose one of the babies instead of both.
“ That’s not fair! ” Mina protested. He failed her and now he’s trolling Momo. That’s just unfair.
Momo made a teddybear, half red and white for Shoto for his birthday. It wears his hero costume too and he keeps it in his bookself.
Shoto starts to talk more of Momo to his sister and mother. He even bought the bear back home to place it in his bedroom.
His sister told him to ask her out but he told her he liked her as a friend. Fuyumi thinks other wise. “ I taught at least 60 students for the past few years, ofc I know what this is! ”. “ Fuyumi, you teach elementary kids. ”
When they got to third year, Shoto couldn’t stand not thinking what his sister told him anymore. So he just texted her before the beginning of year 3, She said yes.
Momo was still dazed, she texted him back asking if they were dating and he said ‘ I think ? ’
When they met each other they were so awkward with each other and blushed.
“ Do we have to hold hands? ”
“ Shoto, I don’t think it’s how that works but.. sure? ”
They walked in class hand-in-hand. Shoto made Momo’s hand had frost and her hand went to sleep for a few minutes. He had to heat it by holding her hand and they talked and joked.
By the second semester, the became the power couple. Todoroki is part of the big three along with Midoriya and Bakugou, but he’s also a power couple. And Katsuki is somewhat jealous that the damn Icy-hot has two titles.
On the sports day, they had a lot of screen time and they even had a fandom since Shoto had been so protective of her during the festival.
One the first trial of running, he held her hand and ran with her to the finish line. His mom was so proud.
“ SHOTOMOMO ! ”
During the second round, he teamed up with the old team again, using their same tactics as the first year but this time, he start to fly around with his fire and ice like what Katsuki did in their first year. Momo had to make ropes to pull him back for so many close calls.
“ Yaomomo, make an air gun to blast them off ”
“ Isn’t that cheating, Ilda?! ”
“ It’s your quirk, it’s not cheating ”
Shoto abused it by blasting a lot of teams off.
When they got the first place, Momo hugged him and he hold her, bridal style. // Le fandom faints.
Nezu is f-ing cruel. He put them against each other as the very first match.
The fans booed.
Shoto only uses his ice on her and tried not to get too close while Momo got so serious with it, she cut him with her blades near his scar. Shoto won by creating an ice wall and she was pushed off the boundaries.
She got knocked off pretty badly and he came running to her and apologies.
They patched each other up and went to watch the other matched together.
In the end, he won first place this year and he ran down the podium to Momo who created plastic flowers for him. ( Since, she can’t make life )
