Monthly Reflection: Embracing Growth and Change
The Importance of Monthly Reflection
Monthly reflection is more than just a practice; it is a journey into self-awareness and growth. For me, taking the time to reflect each month acts as a mental reset button. It allows me to assess my achievements, acknowledge my mistakes, and set intentions for the upcoming month. Reflecting monthly helps me stay aligned with my long-term goals. It’s like being my own coach, reminding myself what’s working and what’s not. This reflection practice turns my vague ambitions into a clear roadmap of actionable steps.
Why Use Journal Prompts?
When I first started journaling, I often faced the dreaded blank page syndrome. That's when I discovered how useful journal prompts could be. They provide a structure, making it easier to dive deep into my thoughts. Prompts guide me in exploring areas of my life I might otherwise overlook. Prompts let me tackle specific themes such as gratitude, personal growth, and relationships. They help steer my reflections in a more focused way. With prompts, each month becomes an opportunity to address different facets of my life.
How Journal Prompts Enhance Reflection
When I discovered journal prompts, I found they brought a richness to my reflections. They encourage me to think critically and creatively about my experiences. Prompts help me articulate thoughts that are often jumbled in my mind. For example, a prompt like "What were three challenges I faced this month?" forces me to consider not only what was difficult, but also how I overcame those hurdles. It's like going through a mini-therapy session, helping me process emotions and patterns.
Personal Stories and Impact
One month, I used the prompt, "What is something new I learned?" This led me to reflect on the time I took up knitting. Initially, my stitches were uneven, but through persistence, I improved. This prompted me to realize how perseverance in small hobbies could translate to more significant life challenges. Another memorable prompt was, "Who made a positive impact on my life this month?" I remembered a kind colleague who offered me invaluable advice. This reflection not only brought gratitude but also inspired me to express my appreciation more openly. Using journal prompts has made my monthly reflections more meaningful and impactful. They have encouraged me to look deeper, to celebrate small victories, and to learn from my challenges.
Creating A Routine
Setting aside dedicated time for monthly reflection has become a non-negotiable ritual for me. Whether it's the last Sunday of the month or the first day of the next, knowing I have this sacred time helps me feel more grounded. Incorporating journal prompts into this routine has turned the process into something I look forward to. It's my little date with myself—a chance to recharge and realign.

Chapter 1/12: January
Welcome to my blog. I’m certain this is is going to be an adventure - so buckle in for a wild ride.  January 2019, you have come and almost gone. You were filled with many memories and life changing moments - I don’t mean this in the cliche way, but you literally changed me. On Monday the 7th I found out I was pregnant. I was SCARED, but I also felt excited and strangely enough, ready (well as ready as a uni student who recently just resigned from her full time job could be...) That Saturday is where everything changed, after a week of mentally preparing to become a mum and figuring out how much my life was going to change - you decided you weren’t ready for this world just yet. After 8-10 long hours in the ER, I found out that I had miscarried. I felt way too many emotions that week. I disassociated by using jokes to cope with what I was feeling (probably not the healthiest way of processing feelings) After reflecting and typing this all out, I honestly believe that life challenges us in the most fucked up ways, but the way we deal with these situations helps shape who we are and prepares us on how to handle our next obstacle in life. I know in the future when the time is right, I will get to experience being a mum. Right i’m going to continue to work, study and live life for myself. Everyday brings a new opportunity for growth. BUT as they say, you have to take the bad with the good. January was also filled with lots of laughter, forgiveness and clarity. I let go of past grudges and was able to forgive myself for the years where I wasn’t living my best life. I’m just over 3 months away from marrying the love of my life and I honestly couldn’t be happier. I entered the year unemployed after resigning before Christmas and have just been offered a casual position at a workplace close to home - things always work out one way or another. Life never seems to go as plan, but I hope that in February i’ll be able to reach some small goals that I've set for myself.
Goals for February:
- Start saying ‘no’ more and lose the guilt (i’m way too much of a people pleaser)
- Sign up to a new gym and workout 3-4 times a week
- Complete another unit of my study
- FIND A HOBBY: This is a HUGE goal for me and i’m sure anyone who knows me IRL would agree that I need a hobby

august reflection
As the month comes to an end I wanted to start a little something new on my blog, and I thought this was a perfect time to start seeing as it is my birthday month and all. This month has been a mixture of the most stressful and rewarding month so far this year. August was my first full month home since studying abroad and I soaked up every second of it. I had decided while in Italy that I was…

A very important thing to remember: If someone tells you ‘secrets’ about their other friends or gossips to you about others, they’re probably doing the same thing about you with someone else. Please remember to speak with consideration and thought 💭

February update:
Ah February, you’ve come and almost gone! ... has it seriously already been another month though?! 2019 is moving so fast that I almost can’t keep up.  This month was a month that I reflected a lot on myself (being unemployed and waiting to start work and uni will do that).  Goals I set for this month:   - Start saying ‘no’ more and lose the guilt (i’m way too much of a people pleaser) - I HAVE ACTUALLY BEEN WORKING ON THIS! I just need to lose the guilt of saying no. - Sign up to a new gym and workout 3-4 times a week: I have signed up to a new gym and have been working out 4+ times a week! Very proud of the consistency and routine, however now it’s time to clean up my eating - Complete another unit of my study: I am still working on this and am aiming to submit it in the first week of March. But honestly, I have been a little slack. FIND A HOBBY: This is a HUGE goal for me and i’m sure anyone who knows me IRL would agree that I need a hobby.  I now do jazz/tap/ballet dance lessons every Saturday! It has been fun to learn something new and have something to look forward to. Overall this month has been good. We finished paying off the vendors for the wedding (2 months to go!) and I start back at uni next week. March is going to be very busy and i’m keen to see how much i’m able to achieve.  OH - AND I STARTED GOING BLONDE! Let’s hope I can keep it this way - for a little while at least ;)  Goals for March: 1. Lose 5kg 2. Work on making healthier choices with food 3. Attend all my uni lectures and pracs
