Sorry for landing in your ask box again. I was reading empire moths lore posts and in one of them you mentioned that there was an era of previous Megabird. Is "Megabird" some sort of title in your worldbuilding? When did Megabird changed?

Ah, glad you asked!

In my lore interpretation, the Megabirds are the embodiment of Light since its seperation from the Darkness, but they are also not immortal and are subject to the Cycle of Rebirth-- So they create a Child of Light the day they become Megabird, to one day take their place once it's time to be reborn.

The current Megabird who's called Mother Bird in my fic just happened to be the most recent iteration, because Her father-- aptly called Father Bird, who oversaw the fall of Humans and the birth of Ancients-- somehow managed to fall in battle against the Darkness and forced Mother Bird to take his place prematurely. Alef I/Resh just happened to be Her Child of Light too, oopsie-

I think I may have to make a new headcanon comic just for this, thank you for reminding me 👀👀

I don't have a specific AU that's my favorite, because my attention flits from subject to subject, but I'm currently thinking a lot about the one where Eugene was never revived in the tower, the series proceeds (mostly) the same, but when Rapunzel and co get to the Dark Kingdom, Eugene's ghost is there among his ancestors. However, like Ruthless Ruth, he's got holes in his form, because he died saving the woman he loves and was left with unfinished business because of it.

I know the Tangled universe is a magical one, unlike the real world, but that doesn’t make the characters any less human than we are, right? They are still the same species and the same aspects of biology, genetics, etc that apply to us, apply to them, right?

They're all still human, yes. Magic existing in their world doesn't make them not human. In fact, only one character in all of Tangled was for a fact born with magic, and that was Rapunzel, and we know how/why she was born with magic. Everyone else either uses potions and/or spells and/or magical artifacts/devices. If anyone else was born with magic, we were never told about it.

Mother and Father (the people who turned them into birds) might be fae (fairy folk). Everything about them screams that they aren't human, especially when you take into account Tom Caulfield's original concept designs for them.
