In 1869, on Christmas Eve author Charles Dickens’ reading tour was interrupted by what appeared to be a ghost or a zombie. Dickens, in an attempt to prove this was all some sort of parlor trick, got mixed up with a strange man who simply referred to himself as the Doctor (Doctor 9) and his traveling companion named Rose. He was made to believe that what was happening was gas like creatures who were escaping through a rip in space and looking for dead bodies they could take residence in. ("The Unquiet Dead", Doctor Who, vlm 3 TV)

Little Lamb
Media - The Artful Dodger Character - Jack Dawkins Couple - Jack X Reader Reader - Miss Y/n Y/l/n Rating - 18 (Blood / Gore / Nudity) Word Count - 2609

Jack was working late in the morgue everyone else in the small hospital already fast asleep, but he tinkered away under the electric lights in the hospital basement practicing a new surgical technique on a fresh cadaver. Every so often checking his book and struggling with the swirling words to understand what he was meant to be doing.
However, the silence soon came to a end as he heard footsteps. Jack's eyes shot up from his book to the entrance of the morgue he’d left the doors open as he never lived being shut in here so late, he was concerned for a moment but soon realised it was just Y/n. Jack had a lot of affection for Y/n, he would very nearly say he loved her, she was a nurse in the hospital and the two spent an awful lot of time together. He wanted to make her his wife but… the rules and social etiquette of Victorian dating were something Jack didn’t understand and frankly couldn’t be bothered to learn,
Jack let out a sigh of relief. "Don't sneak up on me like that."
Y/n stood in the doorway in her little silk nightgown her curls loose around her, clearly she'd been in bed. But she carried a book in hand, "I didn't mean to spook you, Jack,"
Jack’s eyes wandered her body for a moment before focusing again. "What are you doing down here? You should be asleep."
"I had a question" She hurried inside shutting the door softly,
Jack turned his body more to her. "A question? You do know it's the middle of the night, right?"
"Well you’re awake, I'm awake. And I have questions" she shurgged opening her book and flicking through her various notes,
Jack let out a soft groan, but didn't protest. "Alright, go ahead."
"... Mr Clarke in bed seven. We've been dosing him on morphie and noticing his shaking and trembling hasn't stopped I pondered... Did we ask if he smoked?"
Jack sat there for a moment, processing. He mentally slapped himself for forgetting to ask such an important question the last time he spoke to the patient. "No, we didn't ask."
"Could that not be why he's trembling given he hasn't been allowed or able to smoke for the last four days?"
Jack leaned against the table, and let out a sigh. "That's... very much possible. Good point. I can't believe I forgot to ask. Bloody hell.” Jack looked at her again, “Is this what you do at night?”
“How so?”
“Just lay in bed with your note book thinking about patients?”
“... Yes,” She nodded, “why? What do you do in bed?”
“Sleep,” He answered,
“I mean like before you fall asleep,”
“...Drink. Or gamble.” he explained, “Or… think about you,” He suggested trying to give her waist a playful tickle but she elbowed his stomach before he even got close,
“Hands to yourself Doctor Dawkins,”
"So... why such... little clothing?" he smirked,
"I thought I was asking you questions not the other way around?"
He chuckled, “I’m curious,”
"what's wrong with it?"
He was quiet for a moment, his eyes wandering her body again. "Nothing at all. Just very... revealing."
"it's Australia. Its summer. Our bedrooms are both in the attic. Oddly enough I'm hot." She explained, "Besides why is what I wear to bed any of your business."
A smirk formed on his face, as he jokingly said, "Never said I didn't like it. Besides… it’s nice to know what you wear to bed, I can better imagine you now.”
she rolled her eyes "Anyway... I've been considering Mrs gains I don't think she actually has muscle pain... I think she has hysteria"
He raised an eyebrow. "Hysteria? Why do you think that?"
"... She complains about every... Three weeks or so coincidentally the time her husband goes out of town for business, complaining about muscle pain in her upper thigh, and every time we send either you or sneed over to give her a thigh massage that seems to fix it. I don't think she actually has anything wrong with her... Just wants a man to touch her while her husband's away"
It took Jack a moment to process everything that she'd said and then he let out a sigh and ran his hand over his face. "So... Mrs Gains only complains about muscle pain in her thigh every three weeks. Coincidentally the time her husband goes out of town... she complains about it to us so we send over me or Snead to give her a 'thigh massage' and then suddenly it's all fixed as soon as her husband arrives home again.. correct?"
"exactly, does that not seem suspicious to you?"
Jack stood there for a moment, thinking. It did sound rather suspicious, "I suppose but... she's married. Surely she wouldn't cheat on her husband. Right?"
"I don't think she wants to cheat on her husband I think she just likes having you boys massage he upper thigh"
Jack let out a sigh, "Bloody hell.. I've been spending hours just massaging her thigh while her husband is away for work? Christ."
"yeah exactly" she Nodded
Jack groaned again and rubbed his eyes, before looking at Y/n again "How'd you even come up with the idea she might have hysteria anyway?"
"... When you break it down that's all female hysteria is jack, it's women fainting and faking for attention so doctors go over and make them feel better"
Jack sat silently processing. "That's a dark way to think about it but... I suppose you're right. I think you may be right."
"of course I'm right" she smiled shutting her book "That's all, that's what was swimming in my noggin before bedtime."
A soft laugh escaped. He stood close, now towering over her. "Right. Well.. do you mind if I ask another question myself now?"
"... Fine" she sighed
Jack leaned down closer to her "Do you wear clothing like this every night? Or just for me?"
"every night... Why?"
Jack shrugged but had a small smirk on his face and leaned even closer, so close that their bodies were almost touching. "No reason in particular. Was just thinking that I'd like to see you wearing this more often, it's very pleasing to the eye."
she scoffed "Whatever would people think they saw me wondering around the hospital in my nightie let spending time in said nightie alone with a bachelor such as yourself" She used her proper lady tone
Jack chuckled softly and whispered in her ear, "Oh I'm sure we both know nobody would have a problem with the two of us spending time together in here alone."
she glared "You know full well if my father found out you were alone with me he would come down here pack my things and march me home. After beating you with his cane to a bloody plump"
Jack sighed and leaned back slightly, having a grimace on his face. "And don't remind me how much I bloody hate your father. Honestly, he has no good reason to hate me."
"... Doesn't he? You are often alone and make lewd remarks towards his only unmarried daughter."
Jack let out a small 'pfft,' and chuckled "I think 'often' is.. a stretch. Besides, how is flirting with his daughter a reasonable reason for him to hate me?"
"If you had a daughter and found out some boy was flirting with her you wouldn't be angry?"
Jack sighed and rubbed his face again, contemplating an answer. A few moments of silence later, he responded. "I understand it'd be... worrying. But why anger? You're not a child anymore, you're an adult, You can defend yourself and know what's appropriate and not appropriate. So why shouldn't you flirt with the opposite gender if you please? Namely me."
"because that's not how society works jack."
Jack scoffed and rolled his eyes. "Bloody society. So because society says it's not okay for two people to flirt, it's not okay for a man to give a compliment to a woman. Makes perfect sense."
"I didn't make these etiquette rules."
Jack sighed, and slowly wrapped his arms around her waist. "I know that. But that doesn't mean it's reasonable to follow these bloody etiquette rules."
she rolled her eyes resting her hands on his, "I am an unmarried young lady and you are a bachelor. Like it or not there are rules we have to follow. We get away with alot more because your a doctor and I'm a nurse we have excuses to be alone together. If we weren't if you wanted time alone with me you'd have to court me like everyone else."
Jack chuckled at first before rolling his eyes. "Court you? That's a damn joke. You know damn well I won't court you just to be able to spend time alone with you. Besides, if I went and courted you, I'd have to meet with your bloody father, and I'm not exactly in any rush to see that old bastard again."
"...he'd let you, you know." She said quietly
Jack raised an eyebrow, surprised by her answer. "Would he now? The ol' prick would truly give me permission to court you?"
"he's told me before. He'd give you permission if you actually went about properly"
Jack fell silent for a moment, contemplating what she'd said. "... And what exactly would going about it "properly" require me to do?"
"To bathe. Get dressed up in your best shirt. Come to the house. Perhaps bring gifts for my family. Sit down to dinner. Then ask my father for permission to court me."
Jack groaned and rubbed nose against her neck as he imagined the scenario she was describing. He groaned again and rested his forehead against her shoulder. "Good god... that sounds like absolutely torture." He stayed rested against her for a long moment, not saying anything. After what felt like forever, he lifted his head up. "... Say I did go through all that. The bathing, the best clothes, the family dinner and all that bullshit... would you actually say yes?"
"... Not my choice. Father will decide if you can have permission then you'd have to ask me and then go about the courting"
Jack groaned again, "How many damn steps are in this courting situation anyway?"
"... Well asking for permission, asking the lady, first stage of courting where your chaperoned, second stage where you’re unchaperoned, balls and formal events, then engagement."
Jack groaned again, "Christ... that sounds... bloody exhausting."
"oh it is."
"And this is all because society says two grown adults can't spend time alone without being bloody chaperoned?"
"Yep." She nodded "I mean... You could try your luck do all the same things and just ask father for my hand. It's more a risk but if he agrees you jump straight to engagement "
Jack lifted his head back up and raised an eyebrow. "And what exactly is the likelihood of him agreeing? Because if I'm going through all this bullshit I'd like to know if it's pointless or not.."
"... Agreeing to court, I'd say 70% leaving room for potential social issues. Asking for my hand... 50%... If you catch him on a good day... And maybe wait till he's a few whiskeys deep"
Jack chuckled softly. He was surprised to hear those odds. "Damn. That's a surprisingly high chance. I'd assumed it'd be in the 10% range."
"as I said. He's told me before if you were to go about it properly her happily allow it"
Jack let out another long sigh. "Alright. I'm... slightly considering this now. Very, very, slightly considering this."
"you do realize either way we'd have to get married?"
Jack went silent, staring at the ground to the side while he processed that. A few moments later he spoke in a quiet voice. "Y-Yeah... I'm very much aware of that…” He went silent again, thinking. It was hard enough for him to actually imagine himself getting married, but… for y/n. A frown formed on his face as he spoke again. "Bloody hell... your father as my father-in-law..."
she chuckled "You'd only have to see him like once a year"
Jack groaned again. "One too many times if you ask me. Honestly, I can't stand the thought of being in the same room as that old bastard." Jack went silent for another moment, staring at the floor. But after that moment, he let out a long sigh and spoke up again. ".. But I suppose having to deal with him once a year would be... bearable.. if it meant being married to you"
"hum... Getting to see under my nightie really worth that much to you? That you'd go though all the chaos of courting, marrying me, and dealing with my father for the rest of your life?"
Jack couldn't help but chuckle a tiny bit. "Trust me, seeing under your nightie is only a part of the reason I'm considering this. Getting to marry you is the major reason." he pressed a gentle kiss to her cheek, "Besides... I would rather marry the woman I love, even if I have to deal with her father being a pain in my ass for the rest of my life"
"or you could just go down the pub and pay a lady a few pounds to see under her dress and just remain a bachelor forever?"
Jack chuckled again and slowly leaned even closer to her. "Ah, but there's only one little problem with that idea. I'm in love with bloody you, not some random pub girl."
she chuckled "Well, you know your options, now can I get to bed or you just going to keep me down in the morgue with you all night?"
Jack let out a sigh and very slowly released his grip on her waist. He took a step back. "I suppose you can go off to bed. I'll see you tomorrow as usual?"
"of course, first thing in the morning. You want me to wake you or just meet you in the ward for rounds?"
Jack shrugged and let out a yawn. "Just meet me in the ward for rounds. I'm planning on staying up a little later, you can go get your beauty sleep."
"alright" she chuckled heading to the door but just before she left she turned back "you’re really thinking about this aren't you?"
Jack stayed silent for a moment, as if he was contemplating the question. He eventually let out a sigh and nodded. "... Yeah, I am. I'm actually... genuinely considering it."
she chuckled and nodded slightly a wicked look on her face for a minute "Well..." She smirked her fingers moving to the small straps of her silk nightie and pulling them down to her waist for a brief few seconds exposing her collar, chest and bare breasts before she quickly moved it back up concealing herself again
Jack went completely silent and still while she lowered the straps, his jaw-dropping as his eyes rushed to memorize every tiny little inch of her skin,
"Some encouragement." She blew him a kiss before she headed out of the morgue "See you in the morning doctor Dawkins"
He let out a breath he didn't realise he was holding, "Bloody hell..." he whispered before quickly composing himself "Y-yeah.. see you in the morning."
Jack continued to remain completely motionless after she'd left. He just stood there for a while, his mind and body practically frozen while his brain desperately tried to process what had just happened. The image of her for those few seconds was now burnt into his memory.
After a few minutes, he seemed to finally have enough self-control to move again. He let out another heavy sigh, running his hand through his hair to try and keep himself from feeling the burning sense of desire. He quickly tried to distract his mind by thinking of the patients, the paperwork, anything that could make him push that goddamn image out of his mind but too late he saw and he was so so happy he saw.

Episode eight - untapped potential
Masterlist
Jack Dawkins x fem reader
He would never be able to pinpoint the moment his eyes became so heavy that he fell asleep. Yet, it did take over him and soon it was morning you wake, bathed in the sunlight coming through the window and feel weight on your wrist. Jack seemed so carefree as he slept, curled on his side on your bed. What a sight you had woken to. You shift down to his level. Jack's eyes flicker open to meet yours.
"Belle says it's an aortic aneurysm, isn't it?" You whisper.
He clutches onto your hand. Jack can't speak, he wants to comfort you but hasn't got the words.
"Yes." He swallows the lump forming in his throat.
" And when it bursts, this is all over?"
"I don't wanna leave this world without knowing love fully." You say.
"You are loved. Fully." He assures you and you bring your lips to his. Your fingers start work on his shirt buttons. A look in his eyes asks you if you're sure and you nod. He spins you carefully on to your back resting above you and unties your nightgown.
*_*_*_*_*
"Some consider me innately cruel, but I simply see this as a necessary part of justice. For without the rope, society crumbles. The rope is the brute girdle that binds us up and keeps us safe. Yet the rope offers not just punishment, but salvation. Would you like to be saved, Mr. Fagin?" Gaines spoke.
" Very much, yes. What do you want?" Fagin asked with the noise around his neck
" Jack Dawkins."
*_*_*_*
"You can fix it. You and Belle. Astley Cooper performed the surgery 40 years ago. I read the case report." You say, cuddled into Jack's bare chest.
"He killed the patient." He reminded you.
"I know. I know, but medicine's changed. You changed it."
"y/n, there is a reason why the best surgeon in the century failed. You would die on the table." He held your face in his hand.
" I believe you can." You press him further.
"Please do not ask this of me." He begs you.
" So, what, you'll just hold my hand and see me into the next life? That's not good enough, Jack. Not if you really love me."
Your bedroom Door opens allowing your mother in, holding a tray.
"Here, darling, I've brought you some... " she gasps and rushes from the room. You look back at Jack before jumping out of bed. You both dress as fast as you can. A maid knocks on the door and enters.
"Lady Jane would like to see Doctor Dawkins in the study." She says, bowing her head to you.
"I love you." He replies before leaving the room. You drop down at your desk pulling a sheet of paper to you and start writing. When you're done you grab the closed suitcase and dart down to Belle's room.
"I love you." You say holding him to you. Jack kisses your lips.
"I need you to make me a promise." You say not giving her a chance to disagree.
"What's going on?" She asks.
You put the suitcase on her bed.
"You have to keep this safe. If I die give that and this letter to Jack. Read the letter to him." You correct yourself.
"If you die? Y/n no we won't let you! Jack won't let you" Belle was almost begging you. You shake your head and tears spill from you once again.
"I've ruined it all." You say.
*_*_*_*
"You're not to see my daughter again You pack your things, hand over your current patients to Dr. Sneed, and leave town by the end of the week." Lady Jane instructs Jack. He sits in the chair in front of the desk. He feels and looks small in the study.
"y/n is dying." He says catching himself on the words.
"So, you tell her she's dying to trick her into becoming your whore?" She spits the words at him.
"What?" The question had cut into him.
"Dr. Sneed examined her last night and found nothing wrong. Nervous strain. Eleven London doctors examined her supposed illness and found nothing." She explained to him.
"They are fools." He tries to fight back.
"But fools who can read." Lady Jane reminds him of his lacking knowledge.
"She wants me to operate. But that will kill her. I don't know what to do." He is begging your mother to understand, to listen to him. Every word he says breaking his heart apart.
"You stay silent. And you can thank God and my principles that the Governor will hear nothing of this. Otherwise, he'd certainly call for your head. Get out." She turns away from him and keeps it turned until she is sure he has left for town. Lady Jane wipes a tear from her eyes.
"We'll need to watch your waist. If it thickens, I'll find an excuse for you to visit your uncle in India for nine months. As long as nobody knows, we might be able to salvage your reputation." She says walking into your bedroom.
" You don't understand." You say turning to her.
" You're not dying. But you are being ruined and taken for a fool."
"Mother," Belle stepped between you. "Her aorta is swelling. Unless she has this surgery, it will rupture and she will bleed to death."
"Stop it! Just stop it! You are filling her head with nonsense. You are not a doctor Belle. I won't let you hurt yourself with that man." Lady Jane hissed and turned for the door.
" Then you'll get me killed." You call after her. Belle takes your hand.
"what do I do?" She asks.
"Make sure you know everything about this operation, he is going to need your help." You say.
*_*_*_*
"That's the rough end of the feather, that is." Fagin says to Jack, "No doubt about it."
"It's impossible. I can't see how to save her." Jack feels utterly alone in his despair, as if you had already left him.
"You see, I have an inkling of how that feels. Well, look at this pie. It's tasty, salty, bit of gristle, but otherwise, full of gravy. I'll enjoy it, it'll fill me heart, but then, it'll be gone. And I will take comfort knowing that just around the corner will be another pie." His aged companion said.
"You're seriously comparing the woman I love to one of Rotty's pies?" Jack huffed, ready to leave the table.
"Look. There are times in this life when we have to face the loss of something so precious, it makes the heart clench just to think of it. Love's frail, Dodge, it don't last. Especially not in our world. That's what gives it its pain. And it's also what gives it its shine because in the flickering of a glim, it's gone. I'm sorry, Dodge. Truly."
*_*_*_*
"Our daughter has lost her senses. Dawkins has convinced her that she has some appalling illness." Your mother tells the Governor.
"Now, now, calm down, Jane. I told her it's ridiculous."
The prof and Sneed are once again examining you. Sneed using his watch to count your pulse.
"This is a waste of my very limited time." You groan.
"Your mother asked for a full examination. So, here we are. Good news. You have a very treatable ulcer." Sneed announces to you.
" Nonsense. I have an expansive mass and a bruit. My aorta is whooshing. Listen. Please." Using the stethoscope he listens to the way your heart throbbed.
"Inconclusive." He says.
"You're an intelligent man. Why are you being a coward?" Belle repremanded him.
"I am a qualified doctor with years of experience and a degree from Oxford. It's an ulcer." He says through gritted teeth.
" To be a man, to not have to beg a lesser mind, to, "Please, sir, can you save my life?" You cry.
"Try and get some rest," he turns to Belle, "And I'll consider this outburst an emotional response to a trying day from.both of you."
" So, are you feeling better?" Your father shuffles across the room and sits beside you, taking up your hand, " 'Cause I wouldn't want anything to happen. Because I couldn't live with that. I just couldn't." He weeps.
"She needs bed rest for the ulcer to heal." Sneed tells Lady Jane.
"Yes, it would be, if it was, but in my clinical opinion... your daughter has a curable ulcer, and Dawkins has a great flair for the dramatic." He sighs at his own cowardous.
" And this aneurysm, is there anything in it?" She asks him. "Dawkins seems to think it might be rather bad."
Sneed looks over to you and Belle. A moment of consciousness titters through him. Could he be the one who shatters the Governor? Not even the Prof had dared.
She smiles at him, and glances back at her daughters. "My concern is that Belle may take matters into her own hands."
*_*_*_*
You had been locked in your bedroom for some time as had Belle. You hear gentle steps coming up the corridor.
"y/n? Y/n, are you all right?" She knocks on the door,
"Splendid!" You sigh.
"Would it cheer you to hear of my love for Mr. Oliver Twist? " Fanny tries to help.
"Go away!" You try not cry.
"y/n, just let me in."
"If it were that simple, I'd be letting myself out." You scoff.
" No, I mean, emotionally."
"You think I'm a madwoman, too?" You ask.
"No. You're the most brilliant person I know. Belle is beyond my capabilities as well, though she is a bit rude. But if you think you have this, and she does, then I believe you. And I'm scared because I do love you so. Even if you find me a bit annoying." She slips her fingers below the door and you touch yours to them.
"Fanny? I need your help." An idea had popped into your mind as a way to get Belle to the hospital.
Yours and Belle's rooms had an adjoining balcony with a spiral staircase leading down to the gardens. Fanny walked quietly towards the redcoat. She pretends to feel faint and begins to fall over. The guard runs to her and she keeps the act up until you and Belle run down the steps and away from the house.
You have to stop part way as your chest tightens once more. Belle holds onto you.
Finally at the hospital you dart down to the morgue where you find Jack already practicing.
"Jack?" Your voice is quiet. He looks up at you, staring as if he is seeing an angel.
"If you think it can be done," he nods to Belle, "and it is what you want y/n, then I will try. For you." He says, you rush forward, throwing your arms around him. Jack holds you close to him, his arms wrapping tightly around you. This felt like he could finally breath once more and he buries his face into your neck for a moment pressing soft kisses to your skin.
"You can read Prof's notes." He gestures his arm to the note book. His other arm still wrapped around you. Belle grabs up the book and starts reading. "Yes. Yes. Disagree with that. That's just plainly wrong. I don't need these." She drops the book on the table, "Found it from First Principles. What's important is to get the hand positions. Cut into the linea alba." She says. Jack helps you to a stool then darts to the cadava on the table.
"All right. I've got that far."
" Good. Now, make a small aperture into the peritoneum, insert your finger into the abdomen. Pass your finger between the intestines to the spine. And now, push the needle with the ligature behind it." Belle instructs him.
"So, just shove a needle through y/n's entire body without piercing anything." Jack looks at you.
"Take care not to nick the aorta." You say to him.
"I can't." Jack grunts.
"or break the spinal cord." Belle says.
" I can't do this blindly. I will paralyse you or I will kill you." Jack says to you removing the instruments from the body.
"No, it's doable." You say.
"Watch." Belle takes over, "There. Ligation's tied. No damage to the aorta or the spinal cord." She grins.
"Assuming that we can do this, how do I tie it tight enough to fix it, but not so tightly, it cuts the circulation off completely?"
" We'll fill the aorta with water and try." Belle suggests. you watch as they remove the heart and begin running water through the tubes. Your strong stomach will need a prize after watching this.
" Come on, we are so close." Belle says.
"Move"
"Clamped." Jack pulls away angrily as Belle continues.
"Jack!"
"Belle it doesn't work." He huffs.
"No." You came over and start moving things grabbing the equipment. Sure you knew what to do after watching them.
Jack takes your shoulders.
"Please, y/n stop." Belle calls to you.
" No!"
"Stop. It doesn't work." Jack pulls you backwards and you collapse against him. The two of you collapse to the ground.
"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry." Jack repeated, holding you to him as you both cry. Belle stands beside you both.
*_*_*_*
Returning home the two of step into the entrance hall and the chaos of your sister Fanny preparing her move to England. Trunks and bags were littered throughout the hall. Fanny looks up and sees you both, clocking the blood on Belle's hands.
"Oh, my God. What happened?"
" It's all right. It's someone else's." Belle replies.
" Did you do a murder? Is that why I broke you out?"
Belle doesn't reply. You see your mother by the stairs and walk up to her. Without a word you pull her into a hug, resting your head on her shoulder. Taking your hand she leads you back to your room.
"This will seem like cruelty, my darling, but I promise you, it's care." She tried to reassure you.
"Don't bother locking it. I'm not going anywhere." You sighs falling on to your bed. There seems to be nothing that can help you and you lay waiting for your fate.
Fanny comes into you and perches on your bed.
"I will miss coming to you, but I am so happy." She says. Turning you sit up and take her hands in yours.
"Fanny, you have the most beautiful soul, made only better by your face. I am going to miss seeing you every day. Try not to think of me too often." You tell her. Your sister understands your meaning.
"y/n, how could I not think of you every day? My first daughter will have your name so I might have just a little of you beside me." She grins and wipes away the tears. You hug her to you and you tell her you love her before she leaves for her new life.
You were sure she would flourish as a wife and Oliver did seem to be an agreeable man. Jack had known him from a long time ago. You decided that should you have the time you would have him tell you all about his life before he joined the navy. Pushing yourself from the bed you change from your dress into a simple chemise and your blue dressing gown. You wanted to be comfortable as you wrote out a letter to each member of your family.
With three done you ignore the spinning of your eyes and try to focus on your work. Your hand slips and knocks the ink pot over.
"damn." You say ripping the paper away to keep it from getting stained. Looking around you see another inkpot on your desk. Standing up you feel a tingle in your toes.
"no." You say to yourself and try to walk. Your foot is too heavy and you can't lift it. The blurring in your eyes becomes too much and you stumble against the table, knocking more things to the floor. You can no longer keep yourself up.
"No, Jack." You fall to the ground. With no strength to pull yourself up you lie awake on the green carpet. A cold is creeping into your skin. The tingle in your feet, becomes numbness until you can no longer feel them at all. Sure this was the moment you would die you began to pray, not for yourself or your soul, but for your family and Jack.
"y/n" his voice cut through the fog in your mind and he turned your limp body. "No, y/n" he grabs you up into his arms, a pistol in one hand.
"come on, stay with me." He begs you as he runs down the steps of your large house. Belle hears his steps and comes running out.
"What's happening?" She asks following Jack out to the delivery cart outside. He lays you into it and Belle gets beside the driver
"Drive, fast " she commands him. Jack has you in his lap, your head cradles against his body.
"stay with me y/n, please don't go yet." He repeats his plea to you all the way to the hospital.
Rushing inside, everyone who knows you turns to watch.
"Hetty! Prepare the surgery!" Belle shouts to the nurse as Jack carries you into the theatre
He lays you on the table, his hands cupping your face. Around him Belle and Hetty were rushing to gather everything he would need.
Sneed runs in.
"What on earth-"
Belle grabs him, "Rainsford, stop. Let us do this and I'll marry you as soon as you want." She says to him. He nods and backs up.
Jack presses a kiss to your forehead and you whimper, breath struggling to reach your lungs.
"I'm going to save, you okay. " He whispers to you. You nod as much as you could. " I love you. " Jack says again before placing the ether mask to your face. Everything for you goes black.
*_*_*_*
You began to dream, strange moments of fantasy and reality mixing together in swirls of bliss. At first your eyes are heavy and refuse to open so you stay and listen to your mother saying a prayer.
"Father, this is not okay. You must release Jack from prison." Belle implores her father.
"Governor, with all respect he saved your daughter's life. I was too afraid to tell you the truth before but, your daughter would have been dead if this operation had not happened." Sneed finally stands up for his beliefs.
"And no one else could have done it?" The governor asks.
"No, none of us are even an inch close to his skill. Your wife has sent the greatest surgeon of this century to his death." He repeats his previous words.
You can't tell why, but as you listen to them the feel of the room changes and you know you need to open your eyes. Your eyelids flick a few times before you focus on the ceiling above you. Instinctively you turn your head and see Jack outside the window.
"Jack." You say catching your family's attention.
"Let me see him?" You ask your father.
"No!" Lady Jane protests.
"let him in, let's give them some time." Your father says directing his family out of the door. Jack rushes in and drops down beside the bed taking your hands.
"What happened?" You ask seeing the blood and chains on his hands.
"your mother." He says. "I needed to know you were alive."
"You saved me." You say smiling at him, "I thought I was going to die without seeing you." Tears prick at your eyes.
"I would never let that happen." He kisses you. "I love you." He says.
"I love you too."
Jack tells you how the operation went and how Sneed had actually assisted him alongside Belle. You smiled as he talked, finally feeling like the two of you might have some peace.
The door opened, your father stepping in.
"I'm sorry my little dove, I have to break this up " he speaks solomnly.
"Why?" You ask.
"It is time for Jack to go. The guards are here for him." He explains. You shake your head.
"No, he did nothing wrong, father!" You begin to protest.
"y/n, it's okay. I'll go." Jack squeezes your hand. He presses one more kiss to your lips before pulling away. As he passed your father the governor stopped him.
"I'm sure this will all sort itself out soon enough, lad. Thank you for saving my daughter."
Jack gives him a quick nod, glances once more back to you before leaving.
Your father comes over to you and takes Jack's earlier place.
"Shall we settle all this silliness now?" He asks.
"Daddy, I love you but you need to use your backbone. Mother did not put you in your position, do not let her rule you. If Jack does not get out of prison I will return to England. If he stays I'll stay and with the money you gave me I will marry him. You cannot stop me. If he does I will never speak to you again." You say in the strongest voice you can muster. Your father sighs and pats your leg.
"There is no one I would rather lose you to." He grins and you know everything will be okay in the end. Little did you know what was happening at the harbour, or in the prison.

Doctor Who S1E3 The Unquiet Dead- Rambles and Thoughts
"Not gone Mr Redpath, merely sleeping" "Bitch can you stfu"
"WE GOT ANOTHER ONE" brother considering your merely sleeping comment you fucking knew this don't try to hide under religion for that one
Oh hi Gwen torchwood
The dead woman just wanted to see her favourite writer blorbo charles dickens
"No lady wife? You can have mine if you want" my guy… you should not be that willing to cuck Charles Dickens
I think this guy just genuinely wants to suck off Charles Dickens
Rose stepping into the snow SOUNDS CRUNCHY AS FUCK, LIKE THAT IS CEREAL LEVELS OF CRUNCH NOISE.
Hey Charles I know your a big writer and everything but you can't really just describe a ghosts face then proceed to basically insult an audience member by saying "Oh yeah the ghost looked like her lmao" YOU ARE HER BLORBO
Doctor fanboying over Charles dickens and then proceeding to have to explain what fan even means LMAO
I love how Charles just did a 180 once he realised the doctor enjoyed his work lmao "WHO ARE YOU? WHY YOU FUCK UP MY SHOW?" to "Oh let's help get yo girl"
Mr Sneed dumb as fuck for putting Rose asleep in the same room as two dead bodies who are KNOWN to be reanimated occasionally.
Charles Dickens sad pathetic eyes after the doctor tells him to shut up, and then proceeding to just leave the room, not the dead womans blorbo…
This episode really is just "Hey let's give famous historical figure the worst existential crisis possible"
Gwyneth learning the 90s/2000s girl gossip with Rose, then "oh yeah sorry bout your dead dad" like… come on man I know your psychic but time and place
THIS EPISODE IS DETERMINED TO ESTABLISH THE DOCTOR AS AN OMNIPRESENT FUCKER HE JUST APPEARS IN EVERY SCENE STANDING IN THE DOORWAY WITH NO WARNING.
Charles I hate to break it to you but in 2025 you would have been a redditor
I always forget just how late it is into the episode, 30 whole minutes into it, when the gelth first properly appear, also second time war mention.
I wonder if any other new who doctor would have even tolerated the idea of taking peoples corpses as refuge. The other doctors don't have as wide open wounds for the time war which the gelth very easily tickled for 9, so idk.
RIP Mr Sneed you strange strange man
"I think it's gone a little bit wrong :)"
Wowee I smell the basis for an entire spin off in the air... wait why is there a low brightness image below me?

With BOOM shaping up to be a darker episode, its interesting to me how little death these first 3 episodes have actually had.
There's the Goblin King (Janice also implied iirc?), Timothy Drake, and I suppose the unnamed piano lady. Sure we see the destroyed earth and its implied the Maestro killed other people. But very few named characters with lines or presence have died.
Its not unprecedented. Its similar to S5, which only had the deaths of unseen fighter pilots and Prisoner Zero. However, compared to RTD 1.0 it is a stark difference.
By episode 3, Series 1 had: Clive, Raffalo, The Steward, Jabe, Cassandra (technically), Mr. Sneed, and Gwneyth.
There was also: The Nestene, the passengers on Platform One, Mr Redpath from ep 3's cold open, and the Gelth. I wasn't sure if i should count those on the same level though (even if they are arguably on the level of some aforementioned S14 deaths). Also not counting implied deaths or Wilson as they were not seen.
Thats 1 important sympathetic character death per episode. 7 characters who were introduced, had a good number of lines, and died. A character death at least every 20 minutes. Kind of wild. You can see why no one dying felt so impactful in The Doctor Dances.
To be clear, death (or lack there of) doesn't mean anything about the quality of the stories. A bad story can have a lot of people die. A good story can have no one die. But its interesting to see how different RTD 1.0 and RTD 2.0 have started off.
I'm also now wondering if BOOM will be narratively similar to S5's Time of the Angels. Because that was a massive shift in tone. From light hearted stories, with rather fairytale endings, to a very stressful two parter where basically everyone died (Around 8 named characters with 2 especially important ones). It definitely marked a shift in the series.
So with Moffat writing BOOM and only a few hours until it airs, I'm wondering how the ongoing tone of series 14 will play out 👀
#i also looked at the number of deaths in all of Nuwho's series. but that got so long lmao#it is actually interesting to look at it though#i think thats partially where the massive difference comes from? s1 had to make you love those characters fast and their deaths sealed it#doctor who#dw spoilers#season 14#series 14#dw#BOOM

The Artful Dodger: We Are Nothing More | SneedxOC
Summary: Rainsford and Molly come to terms with how complicated their positions in the colony are.
Set during episode 5, “The Duel.”
Authored by: Rhuben
Original Character: Molly Atwood
-
Molly turned away from watching the men as they prepared the Duchess of Portland to set sail at the sound of rapidly approaching footsteps. Spotting Belle’s quick, yet purposeful steps through the town, she found herself relaxing a little, but still gathered the folds of her dress and quickly moved away from the area.
Her friend, she knew, would understand her want to just want to be around the ships in the harbor. The men? Captain Gaines? She’d be deemed a distraction. Give the (wrong) impression that she had a desire to find a suitor of the men. Or be se seen as someone to keep an eye on, lest she steal something from the ships. Food? A weapon? Neither out of the ordinary for her and the reason why she was put under the Governor and Lady Jane’s eye in the first place – let alone why she was in Port Victory.
“Lady Belle,” she greeted, falling into step with her, “I trust you enjoyed the soup?”
“Oh, I’m sure it was lovely, Molly, but I did not have any, I must apologize,” Belle said, distractedly. Her eyebrows pinched towards each other, the shadow from the brim of her hat emphasizing her disgruntled expression. She sniffed. “Mr. Dawkins, though, seemed to have enjoyed it.”
“Oh!” Molly’s eyebrows lifted. Her lips twitched upwards in the corners. She slowed her pace and Belle, sighing through her nose, matched her. “And when would Mr. Dawkins have had a chance to taste the soup?” Belle didn’t answer. “Must’ve been all the nutmeg.”
“I’m sorry?” Belle asked, blinking repeatedly. She swallowed, the crease between her eyebrows lessening slightly. “Nutmeg? How-how do you mean?”
“Lady Fanny has counted you know,” Molly said, looking into Belle’s eyes, “your turns. Eight this past month I believe she’s said.”
Belle’s eyes flashed. A hardness came to her voice as she said, “That is of no business of yours.”
“Yes, Lady Belle, I apologize.” Molly bowed her head slightly, clasping her hands together in front of her. “I have just noticed that upon these turns you don’t eat much. I have begun to wonder should the taste be better you’d be more inclined. And it has helped ease any ailment.” A small smile came to her face. “Besides, you do need to keep up your strength.”
“Meaning?”
“Well, I suppose, should Sneed wish to teach you to shoot,” Molly started rocking back and forth lightly on her heels, “you should be able to hold a gun properly.”
Belled opened and closed her mouth. She blinked repeatedly. Molly smiled wider. Belle took in a deep breath through her nose. Pressed her lips together. Cleared her throat. Then the two were laughing. Not too loud; a lady should not be disruptive, of course.
“Fanny told you?” she asked, her nose wrinkling as her last laugh disappeared.
“Somewhere between complaining about you not appreciating her worry, and not being receptive to any man’s charm so she can be married, not appreciating her art, and wondering where she was even to get a guillotine, Sneed’s request to teach you to shoot did come up, yes,” Molly explained. “She watched you from the window for a bit. Before she went off to paint some more. Her art is quite lovely, you know.”
“Her trees could use some work, I’d say,” Belle said flatly. “Anyway, I am in search of Captain Gaines. Have you seen him?”
“I have not. Why do you wish to speak to him? Seems urgent.”
“Well, I thought he’d like to know about an illegal duel being held tomorrow at dawn,” Belle replied, starting her quick pace again. “Rainsford does not wish to put a stop to it, so I am looking for another way.”
“A duel?” Molly repeated, hurrying in Belle’s wake. “Here? That’s barbaric.”
“Not according to Fanny,” Belle said with an odd laugh, “she seems to believe the duel is over her. Wishes to believe she’ll get a fine suitor should Rainsford win. It’s exciting for her.” She clicked her tongue and gave a sharp shake of her head. “And knowing Dawkins’ proclivity for reckless and utterly stupid behavior, I have no doubt—"
“Dawkins,” Molly repeated. “Jack Dawkins? He’s dueling Jack Dawkins?”
“The very same.”
“Is Rainsford out of his mind?”
“Well, of course, he’d have to have one to lose it.”
“Why would he wish to duel Jack?”
Belle didn’t answer right away. Her teeth worked her lower lip. “I do not wish to understand the male brain,” she finally said. “He’s absurd; he had me smelling nutmeg.”
“Huh?”
“Nevermind.”
“Well, as a future surgeon, I don’t deem that wise,” Molly commented, “not wishing to understand the male brain, I mean.” She grabbed Belle’s elbow, pulling her to a stop. “You’ve come to care for him,” Molly posed the question more as fact, “Jack Dawkins, I mean?”
Belle opened and closed her mouth. “The professor will be passing on the role of Head Surgeon in two months’ time,” she said, wetting her lips with a quick swipe of her tongue. “More and more are arriving at Port Victory; we need as many surgeons as we can possibly have.”
“And with Dawkins around, someone is giving you the chance to be another one,” Molly said with a nod.
“Yes, well, that is one bright spot, I suppose,” Belle said with a curt nod. Molly lifted an eyebrow, watching her. Belle shifted her weight from one foot to the other before crossing her arms over her chest. A sparkle came to her eyes, the corners of her lips curling upwards into a hint of a smile. “Amongst others.” Then it cleared and she tilted her chin upwards. “Now, I must find Captain Gaines.”
“Yes, m’lady, I will not delay you any further.”
-
“Rainsford!”
Sneed looked wildly over his shoulder at the sudden shout before then focusing on the row of bottles that were knocked over at his sudden reaction. He pressed his lips together, exhaling sharply through his nose as the glass shattered as it hit the stand.
“Yes?” he asked, watching Molly stride towards him. His eyebrows came towards each other as he took in the look on her face.
A part of him suddenly he felt the need to get out of the area as fast as possible. First Belle and how Molly. He had never seen such a force within a woman. It was startling in a way; such a display of emotion he was not used to and equally piqued his interest.
“You must call off this duel,” Molly commanded.
“I will do no such thing,” Sneed replied, moving to set up more bottles.
“Why is there need for a duel?” Molly asked.
“Jack Dawkins is not fit for Port Victory,” Sneed replied setting up another row of targets. He could feel her eyes boring into his back. “Yet he acts like he’s entitled to the Head Surgeon position. Something I have worked so hard for!”
“Dr. Dawkins has worked had at his job, too.”
“And has ignored every advice and command as he’ s done it,” Sneed snapped, slamming the last bottle down onto the stand. He whirled around to face her, gritting his teeth. “I told him that the surgery on the navigator was for naught, yet he did it anyway.”
“And he saved his eyes.”
“It was too risky! The man should have just accepted nothing could have been done.”
“You believed you couldn’t do anything for that navigator—”
“The only thing I could do for him was to suggest that he get used to a cane.”
“Yet you chose to help me. Or have you forgotten you have successfully removed a hook from my own eye?”
“You were not in danger of losing your sight.” Sneed crossed his arms over his chest before taking a few steps closer to her. He lowered his voice. “You are not about to set sail, Molly. There is a difference” he insisted when she scoffed. “None of those men on that ship would have been safe with him attempting to navigate. They were better off without him.”
“Yes, I’m sure the man with the engorged member would have done much better,” Molly replied, her upper lip curling slightly. “I’m sure he would’ve been pointing in the right direction at some point, no need for a compass.”
“There was naught I could do.”
“You were just too scared to do it.”
“Excuse me, m’lady.” Sneed stepped closer to Molly, feeling his jaw tighten. “Governor Fox wants them sailing as soon as possible. I had to look at man after man to determine if he was seaworthy. But I had the final decision, and based on my experience, this was not something that could be done.” He pressed his lips together, finding them shaking. “Besides, Dr. Dawkins inferred the smell in town is me.”
Molly’s nose wrinkled. “The whole hospital has started to smell,” she commented, waving a hand in front of her nose as if she could smell it now. Perhaps she could; many in the colony had been speaking of it. “It would be hard to place the blame on anyone.”
“Still,” Sneed sniffed, “Jack Dawkins does not have any respect for authority. He questions the Professor, he questions me…it is not right. It is not right for him to lay up all night with the governor’s daughter. Lady Belle has been spending too much time with someone of his class.”
Molly’s eyebrows rose sharply. “The same class as me, you mean,” she asked.
“Yes, that is what I mean,” he replied. He moved to his gun case and carefully removed his revolver from its position. Turning around to face the bottles, he fired three quick shots. He smiled as each bottle exploded.
“So, Dr. Dawkins and I are not meant to wish to do something more?” Molly asked from behind him. “Or worse yet, you do not believe it to be possible. You like every other small-minded twit here.”
“You will not speak to me this way, Molly.” She would not be the next person to do so. Lady Belle. Jack. Now her? He deserved respect and he would get it.
“Yet, you have no issue should Lady Belle do the same.”
“Lady Belle needs to understand that it would be better for her to marry,” Sneed said, “and not to worry herself with surgical knowledge. It will be better for her.” He punctuated his sentence with another successful shot of his gun.
“And that’s the difference between us? The only difference?”
Sneed let out a sigh of frustration. He set his gun down and placed his hands on his hips as he faced her. “I don’t understand.”
“Yes, Lady Belle and I are not in the same class, but we are friends.”
“Well, you’ve been tending to herself and Lady Fanny for a while now, surely you’re bound to grow a rapport.” Which would make it easier should Lady Belle and himself marry. It would be one less housekeeper to understand how the homestead was to be tended to.
“We are friends because we both dream for more with our lives. We speak of it quite often.”
“Out of turn.” Sneed pointed a wagging finger at her. “That is not something that should be discussed. You help tend to her home.” His chest swelled as he took in a breath of air. “We shouldn’t be discussing it, now. Not like this.”
“Yes, but how are dreams supposed to be achieved if no one hears us? You dream of becoming the next Head Surgeon; how would you come across the role have you not grown a rapport with Professor McGregor? With Governor Fox?”
“Our families have known each other for years,” Sneed replied, “I have studied at Oxford. Of course they would think of me.”
Molly’s lips twitched. “Well,” she sniffed, “you could at least find someone who actually likes the smell of nutmeg.”
Sneed’s anger lessened slightly as he locked his brown eyes with her hazel ones. She didn’t say anything else, just gave him a blazoned look. He cleared his throat. Brushed his hand over his mustache. “You wish to leave these lands – it-it wouldn’t be right,” he finally said.
“To whom?” Molly asked with a scoff. “To the colony? To the Governor and Lady Jane?” Arms crossed over her chest; she stepped over to him. “Because surely, someone of my class couldn’t feel for anyone in yours?” Her eyes bored into his, saying a silent, “you’ve seen how Jack and Lady Belle have looked at each other.”
Yes, he had seen it. And he had seen how she looked at him. How she looked so relaxed leaned up against him. Andhe couldn’t understand it. And he didn’t want to understand it. It was something else Jack Dawkins seemed to get without any work. Any effort. And it didn’t make sense to him how Dawkins always seemed to get what he wanted. Unfortunately, they both seemed to want the same thing at the moment. Though he wasn’t sure which was more prevalent; the Head Surgeon’s position or Lady Belle.
“I am the Governor’s house servant now, that is true.” Molly swallowed thickly, seeming to hesitate before saying, “Yes, I was a convict before that. We’ve both seen in Dr. Dawkins how that doesn’t matter. That it shouldn’t matter.”
“But it does,” Sneed said quietly. “You have had those who’ve asked to marry you.”
“I have no desire to pick up their handkerchiefs and you know it, “Molly said through gritted teeth. She then said just as quietly as him, “They are not whom I wish to marry.” She reached into his gun case and retrieved his revolver. Sneed watched as she lined up the shot and pulled the trigger, successfully shattering the bottle she was aimed at.
“…Nice shot.”
“Thank you.” She set the gun down and looked him in the eye once more. “You have dirt in your hair, by the way.” She reached out a hand and brushed at his hair. Sneed briefly saw a plume of brown waft in the air before the smell of nutmeg reached his nose. “Call off the duel. You wish to save people for a living, I don’t believe you could willingly take someone’s life.”
Sneed didn’t answer, he just picked up his gun one more time, prompting Molly to turn on her heels and walk away. Sneed aimed at the final bottle and pulled the trigger. A hint of a pleased smile came to his face as he watched the final bottle explode in front of him.

DW REWATCH
S01E03 THE UNQUIET DEAD
The Doctor has great expectations for his latest adventure when he and Rose join forces with Charles Dickens to investigate a mysterious plague of zombies.
Mr. Sneed sucks.
The Doctor's already beginning to enlist Rose's help in flying the TARDIS--mind you, this is only their SECOND adventure ever. She hasn't even moved in yet!
Rose has a great little line in here, "But, it's like, think about it, though. Christmas. 1860. Happens once, just once and it's gone, it's finished, it'll never happen again. Except for you. You can go back and see days that are dead and gone a hundred thousand sunsets ago. No wonder you never stay still." and it's wonderful how she just GETS him immediately. She understands, immediately, what keeps him going. It's also something she desires in her own life. RTD summed it up perfectly, she humanises him while he time-lords her.
Charles Dickens!!! I do love the historical episodes of DW.
YOU LOOK BEAUTIFUL. HE'S SO IN LOVEEEEEEEE. "considering" you're not being slick Doc!!
That little touch of Rose rushing to the door first; it portrays perfectly how she's fit for a life like this, travelling with the Doctor. She's adapted so quickly! Keep in mind here, the previous two adventures haven't exactly gone "well" and yet she's so eager to see what awaits them.
She looped her arm into his....my heart
What phantasmagoria is this? me @ every episode of the 60th
Rose is so incredibly empathetic. This old woman just flipped and burped out, like, a whole ass entity, and she hurries over to check on her.
The Doctor's fangirl moment is so charming! How exactly are you a fan? In what way do you resemble a means of keeping oneself cool? :D
What the Shakespeare is going on?
Rose asking the CORPSE CLIMBING OUT OF ITS FUCKING COFFIN if it's alright. Babe i love you and your bleeding heart but GET OUT OF THERE
Rose laying it down for Sneed! Go! Girl!
It's interesting that Charles is so hesitant to admit that there might be things in the world beyond his understanding, and it's especially interesting that the Doctor's the one reprimanding him when he's like that too. [The Impossible Planet]. Well, at least he's self aware?
Rose immediately going to help with the washing up. Girl how many times are you going to win my heart. "How much do you get paid" ROSE. BABE.
Super appreciate the nuance of her being (very) condescending towards Gwen. It's such a fine line to tread---Rose clearly sees herself as a voice for the "disenfranchised" but she regularly gets ahead of herself and disregards the opinions and wants of the actual person. This topic is also (horribly) touched upon with Hermione and S.P.E.W in the HP books, and it's something I find very interesting o.o
Bad wolf mention! Also 'the darkness'...was Rose always meant to dimension hop? I always thought Billie chose to leave at the end of s2 and that's why she was written out (and back in eventually)
Good smile. Nice bum. It's literally canon that Nine was outside eavesdropping on this; Ten was sculpted very, very purposefully, ladies and gentlemen.
Gwen points out Rose has been thinking of her father now, more than ever. She has just travelled backwards and forwards in time, her mind is obviously wandering to the man who left such a large gap in her life!
Gotta mention the concerned glance Rose shoots the Doctor during the seance. She's so in tune with his feelings and his emotional state. (AKA SHE KNOWS VERY WELL THAT TEN WOULDVE NEVER MADE A MOVE)
I think it's interesting to point out that when confronted with the Gelth's plan, only Rose stands up against the Doctor. Gwen, Sneed and even Charles fucking Dickens automatically accept the Doctor as some sort of greater authority---but wonderful, brilliant Rose is so strong in her moral convictions. She thinks of herself as his equal.
The exposition is done so neatly in this--the Doctor's explaining to Rose, and to us, how time is in flux and how history can be rewritten in the blink of an eye. (mavity, anyone?) It truly is a reboot of the show, explaining so elegantly to new viewers how the science of time-travel is going to be handled in here. Going on a tangent from that, nothing the Doctor does or says indicates that he's ever travelled with a human companion before. A general rule of thumb in media is the characters are unaware of their genre so it is inherently unfair to blame Rose for reacting the way she does in School Reunion. Remember folks, Rose antis are the weakest link.
At the tender age of 19, when confronted with her death...Rose chooses to assure this broken man she barely knows that her death isn't his fault. And this won't be the only time she does it this season. My. Heart.
IM SO GLAD I MET YOU HELL YEAH TURN UP THIS SONG ALL MY HOMIES LOVE NINEROSE
Alright I've raved enough about how Rose is endlessly empathetic and refuses to leave Gwen but let's talk about how the Doctor refuses to leave as well! They really are perfect for each other.
Special mention to the actor playing Dickens, he's so good!
But in your time, he was already dead. We've brought him back to life, and he's more alive now than he's ever been, old Charlie boy. A beautiful line, and it also got my cogs turning with how it relates to the Tenth Doctor. It's funny; when you consider time travel, everyone's dead already and everyone hasn't been born yet and everyone's existing, all at the same time. As long as they're not part of your personal timeline, someone can be immortal---you choose a moment in their life and you visit that. And for Ten...Rose is fundamentally immortal. With sending her back to the other universe, he ensures that she'll live forever, in a way. He'll never see her age, never see her die. She'll live on only as he remembers her. Idk if that makes sense but god. He gets her forever. And Tentoo gets her everyday. What a ship, right?
Everyone go read Laddie, Lie Near Me.
Anyway. Decent episode! 7/10 for me. I'm not a huge fan of the Gelth.

Age: 9-10 (little age: 2-5)
Occupation: student, assistant, leader's punching bag (formerly)
State: alive
Last seen: September or November, ???
- - - - - -
Appearance
Before the tragic event, Sneedly had his normal light yellow shit with a red bowtie, pants mixed between blue and green and green-ish brown shoes.
Later after the incident/terrible event, his clothes were ripped and ruined, skin covered in bruises and wrist, forearm, thighs covered in scars (I'm not gonna explain why, just take a big guess :/ )
but later on he wears some clothes like Krupp's, his glasses were shattered and his hair was messy. His eyes were crossed (sometimes normal or crossed. Maybe he may have hypotropia but we don't know yet.)
- - - - - -
Personality
After the event he began changing, instead of a greedy and selfish tattletale, he became soft and sensitive. Due to his trauma he reacts quickly and panics. May act childish or friendly.
But if someone ever trigger him or harm him, Sneedly will immediately attack the person. His behavior may change from friendly to aggressive the more he changes.
- - - - - -
Trivia (well facts/mini info)
🖍• His intelligence was taken away BEFORE he was hospitalized few weeks. No one knows how he lost his intelligence but other says he was brainwashed or changed.
🧸• He was being used as a human experiment for his principal to test. Being treated like a rat and tormented.
• Ever since he was out of the Hospital, Sneedly started acting weird, he bite or attack students and staffs (who tried to interact with him or accidentally triggered him at the point he would start harming someone), getting distracted easily, disobeying the staffs, biting & scratching himself. Struggling to speak properly and hiding himself away from people.
- At first, the Sneedly family thought it was normal at first until another complain came about their child biting a girl (Jessica) and ripping her skin from her arm with his bare teeth during a fight. This of course made Gaylord/Mr. Sneedly furious and stressed that his son was acting like an animal and tried his best to find a way to "fix" his child.
🧸• Unfortunately his dad didn't wanna spend money on therapy cuz according to him, therapy may be very expensive. Online or not Gaylord doubted that finding a useful therapist won't solve until one day in the middle of a parent meeting the principal decided to convince Mr. Sneedly to sign the contract (the organization paper), and explained he can actually "fix" him for the dad and Mr. Gaylord agreed.
- NOT realizing it's not a safe camp for children that has problems. It was a big lie that Mr. Sneedly took and brought the child to the school to let the principal take care of him for the parents.
🖍• During his first day, it was difficult cuz of lack of motivation and scared to trust his principal after all the things he has done to him BEFORE he was sent to the hospital. The yelling, bruises, insults and experiments were causing the child to be too weak and unstable to defend himself.
-But he was used to it now due to him not realizing he was developing Stockholm syndrome (NOT in the romantic way remember that now. Feeling pity and guilt for his principal/abuser)
- Sadly his future self still has the syndrome and has a toxic ex-partner who left him. Because of that Sneedly was too scared to be in another relationship with someone and blames himself for not being good enough
🧸• Would call his principal/leader "dad". Although the principal was an abusive and dangerous person, Sneedly would call him "dad" or "Papa Ben" to feel connected to him more than his actual father.
🖍• He age regress due to heavy trauma and stress. Tries very hard not to regress in front of others.
🧸• his relationship with the other assistants makes him feel "safe". Other Sophie and Dante are like big/older siblings to him while Harold was like a twin to him.
🖍• His interest are drawing, cartoon, color orange and sweeties
🧸• Meanwhile He may see Jerry/Mr. Citizen as the older brother, well a "dad" as well. But he's scared of other staffs.
🖍• Has trust issues, even if the person is a staff or a student he is scared to trust them.
🧸• the first assistant that has no number tag on his shirt unless he gets lost and needs to use a tag to remember his number.

not lunch break, but did some more work on this one. life and work and other writing projects have been taking up all my time but i've been wanting to get back to writing for NinexRose so since the first piece i posted got a comment, it inspired me to work on this little fic today
~~~
“Right—you finished?” Any patience Rose might have had for him buggered off when he refused to let her speak.
He blinked at her, seemingly surprised she was still here and that she was the one annoyed. “I—”
“Because I think its my turn to talk,” Rose said before he could finish. “Honestly, where do you get off? Not even letting me explain. Not even saying ‘hello’. Not askin’ for my ID. Of all the arrogant—” Rose threw her hands up in the air before she dropped the ID she had ready and showed to Ms. Wright, “I have clearance, you half-wit. How else do you think I was let back here!?”
Mr. Sneed sputtered before he pointedly looked away from her ID. “Impossible. I mean, this—this is a level seven site—”
Rose angrily tapped her badge. “Good thing my clearance level is nine, innit?”
Nurse Y/n
Media - The Artful Dodger Character - Doctor Jack Dawkins Couple - Jack X Reader Reader - Nurse Y/n Rating - Flirty Word Count - 1413
I finished up work with a patient on the ward and I noticed Captain Gains arrived at the door, I tried not to let panic rise to my face given Fagin was upstairs in my room counting out the score from our last venture. But I did my best to merely act normal as he came through with his usual sit, cane and chipper smile.
"Mr Dawkins," he said,
"Doctor Dawkins," I corrected,
"A quiet word?"
"Trouble with the prostate?" I joked,
"If you could be so kind doctor," He glared,
"Yes course," I nodded,
He led me to the stock room where he sat his book and pen, "Do sit down, doctor."
I sat down trying not to look sheepish, and the more I did the more I wondered if it was actually possible. Silence sat between us for a moment and I felt as If I wanted to break it, "What uhh... what is this concerning?"
He didn't answer at first taking the time to fully extend his tongue from his mouth and lick the tip of his pen before he began his notes. "Nothing to worry about Doctor Dawkins, just a formality during our investigation,"
"What investigation?" I asked,
"I am sure you have heard about these... dreadful atrocities in port victory."
I relaxed a little, "Yes, of course. Been the talk of the town," I nodded, "Wretched, horrendous, accidents."
"Apparently not." he said, "After much investigation, we have determined these... atrocities were not accidents,"
"Not- not accidents?"
"No, we have determined in our investigation... that these were not accidents,"
"Ohh goodness..."
"And we have determined they are likely the work... of a serial killer."
"oh... I see..." I nodded, "What... does that have to do with... our conversation today?"
"It is very obvious the body's damage was caused by someone with... medical knowledge."
"Are you implying-"
"I am not implying anything doctor Dawkins," he said, "Merely asking questions,"
"Yes.. of course,"
"You wouldn't happen to have noticed any medical equipment going missing of late?"
"No, no, nothing of note."
"I see... you and Doctor Sneed are our two residents? there isn't another doctor lingering about?"
"No, Myself, Doctor Sneed and Prof. That's all," I explained,
"I see," He made a note, "Have you noticed any other changes in staff?"
"Ohh uhhh a couple of nurses retired last month and we brought in replacements,"
"Well, nothing to worry about there then. Would you be able to tell me where you were on the evening of the 17th?"
"Here." I answered, "Caring for my patients," I lied even though I was defiantly not here, I think on the 17th I was either down the cat and bagpipes stealing Darius' watch or possibly across town stealing Mrs Asterlynn's diamond necklace,
"Yes... and various nurses and patients could collaborate on that,"
"Uhhh..." I scrambled, "Unfortunately the patients from then have all passed on,"
"Pity, your nurses then?" he asked, "I'm sure one of your nurses would be able to confirm your presence that evening,"
"Hetty, my head nurse would yes." I nodded hoping to god he wouldn't call my bluff because she was currently mad at me and I got the feeling she was at the right level of throwing me under the carriage mad,
"I see... you're head nurse," He chuckled, "any others know you were here?"
"...ughhh... Yes." I lied, "The uhhh the new nurse." I said, as it suddenly hit me that the new nurse who works down in the morgue with Tim, the little one, always has pigtails, she had a day off on the 17th so she wouldn't know I wasn't here, "yes, the new nurse, she was at my side helping me all night, I was showing her the hospital and such,"
"I see, you don't mind I ask her of course. For the records."
"...No, no of course not," I lied,
"Good take me to her then," He said as he got up,
I nodded and led him down the corridor trying to think of what the hell I was gonna do, why did I say that, why didn't I have a plan, what nurse could stand me enough not to get me hung, I couldn't ask hetty she's mad, and I already called her my head nurse so he's met her before... I saw the new nurse, the one who had the day so coming up from the morgue in her usual nurse's dress, with her hair in sweet pigtail braids, well I hope to god she plays along. "Nurse," I spoke up as I don't know her name yet...
She stopped and seemed puzzled as to why I was talking to her, "Yes Doctor Dawkins?"
"Captain Gaines just wanted a word with you," I said, "About the 17th, when we were working... on the ward... together... all night..."
She looked at Captain Gaines and then at me for a second seeming confused, "I'm sorry the 17th?"
"Yes, you know nurse when you and I were working on the ward together all night, and I showed you around, we cared for patients, did some paperwork..." I lied giving her a rather pleading look almost begging her to play along,
"Oh, yes the 17th. of course." She nodded and I relaxed, "Yes of course what did you wish to ask me about Captain?"
"You can confirm Doctor Dawkins was here in the hospital that night?"
She glanced at me and we shared a look, "Yes I can,"
"Really?"
"Yes Captain I swear on my life," she said putting her hand to her chest, "Doctor Dawkins was ever so kind to me, I only just started and he took the time that evening to give me a tour and run me through some procedures. Letting me shadow him for the evening,"
"And he didn't leave your sight all evening?"
"No Captain, we worked on the patients together until dawn," She smiled,
"Yes we did, yes... never left my sight did you?" I asked,
"No, absolutely not," She smiled,
"And would there be other nurses that could confirm this?" He asked,
Ohh shit- "Ughhh well..."
"Well unfortunately," she said, "Most of our lovely nurses had already taken to bed given such a busy day, the few who were still working, I am sorry Captain but we were so busy popping around the hospital we don't recall any names of nurses still awake and I doubt they would remember us was given how short a time we were in one place,"
"Right," he made his notes,
Hum... damn she's good, I glanced over at her and she gave me an innocent little smile,
"I see, it's interesting who you two were working all evening, together, and yet not a single other nurse or patient can confirm such information,"
"Well, admittedly a lot of our work was... down in the morgue." I lied,
"Yes, down in the morgue popping up for other business of course," she smiled,
"So you were alone, in the morgue together?" he asked,
"Yes..." I nodded,
"And what work were you doing, exactly? For the records?"
"I believe that is our business Captain," she smiled her hands slipping around my arm,
I looked down at her a little confused about what she was doing but as she laid her head on my shoulder it clicked... oohhh... she's going that angle with it... smart. Certainly explains us being alone together.
"I see. Thank you. Any other questions I'll be sure to ask," He nodded folding up his notebook and heading away,
As soon as he was gone I let out a sigh, "Thank you, nurse,"
"You're welcome," she smiled, "Figured you were in a spot of bother,"
"Yeah think I was for a second..." I sighed,
"What did he want?"
"I think... he thinks I have something to do with the deaths in town,"
"I see... do you?"
"No! Of course not!" I protested, "I was just out doing... other business,"
"Understandable then," she nodded,
"What about you?"
"Humm?"
"You were gone then?"
"I was,"
"Do you... have anything to do with his?"
"Doctor Dawkins how are you insinuating such a thing," she faked protested, "No no, I had... other business too,"
"I see," I nodded, "You uhh you don't have to hold my arm anymore you know,"
"I know," she shrugged, "you're kinda comfy,"
"ohhh ughh thanks," I blushed a little, "you uhhh you're... kinda cute."
"Thank you," she giggled, "Well if you need a cover story again, you know where to find me, Doctor Dawkins," she smiled as she tapped my arm and headed off down the hall,
"Ughh yeah, wait! Ughh what's your name again?"
"Y/n!" She yelled back before turning the corner,
"Hu... Nurse Y/n," I smiled a little before I headed up to my room.
Episode four - the stitch up
Masterlist
Jack Dawkins x fem reader
The news of the whore being cut had shaken your father. It had your nerves on edge as well. You were the only one who knew of his affair with the woman, not that you minded. She was a good woman who loved him, which was more than you could say for your mother. Standing at his side in the theatre you ignored the annoyance of the men around you. Your hand held onto your father's arm and he held your hand. Below you watched as Doctor Sneed worked on the woman. Your sister waited alongside Jack.
"The ligation's been tied. What-ho! She bumps!" Sneed announced. The crowd applauded. You patted your father and rushed down the steps into the room behind where Jack stood watching.
"Will she be okay?" You ask him. He draws in his eyebrows.
"truthfully, I hope so. Come" he says.
Everyone began leaving the theatre.
"I do not know if this will help you in any way but I do believe Mrs Gaines and Darius have been entangled together and they have each contracted a lower body problem." You glance sideways at him, "perhaps such information could help your problem with two men."
Jack laughs, taking your arm and leading you out with the others. Belle was waiting just outside the door.
"Well, that was quite the performance." Jack announced as you both stepped out.
"Just shy of an orchestra. Sneed's absurd." Belle agreed.
"Christ. He'll be insufferable." She sighed.
"The surgery was competent." Jack said.
" He's making a tilt for Head Surgeon." You added.
"It should be you." You say.
" No, I'm a surgeon. I'm not a pen-pusher. They'd hardly take me."
"It's a paid position. You'd have a house and a salary. You could break from your life of thievery. " you say.
"My thievery has been very occasional." He grunts.
" Perhaps we should say it in criminal terms," belle said, "This position is being stolen from you."
"It is not based on cutting skill. I would have to hobnob in some grand house."
" If you mean my house, it's an estate." Belle Huff's.
" Head Surgeon is a position given to men my father finds familiar." You remind them.
"That's me finished, then." He laughs.
"By the distinction of having good manners." Belle giggles.
"And that dismal art happens to be something that we are experts in." You say with a mischievous glint in your eyes.
"Let me help you. Miladies" he held out both arms for the two of you to take.
*_*_*_*
Once home you sat in your room, resting against the table.
"y/n are you home?" Fanny came rushing in plonking herself beside you.
"Dr. Sneed has been invited to join us for dinner. We'll be in the second dining room, which fits the evening for its intimacy. I'm being served on a platter for him. I hope it's not too pointed. No man wants to feel trapped, even in the spoils of the colony." She spoke quickly and you had to focus to hear all her words. You chuckle.
" You want to marry sniffly Sneed, the boy who cried when we used to tease him?" You ask.
"He's grown and very ready for a wife." She says.
You smile and take her hand, "I'm sure he is."
"I always forget you're unwell." Fanny laughs before leaving. "Will you dress for tonight?" She asks at the door.
"Is Doctor Dawkins invited?" You ask.
"Oh, I'm unsure." She runs off and leaves you. A pain catches your chest off guard and you try to push it away.
Over night Belle had gone to the hospital to help Jack train to do Rotty's second surgery. When done they sit on the steps in the theatre drinking a bottle of weak beer.
"Why commit an operation like that to memory?" She asks. " Why make it harder for yourself when you could just follow Cooper's notes?"
" It's just how I do it." He sighs.
"Do you like my sister?" The question takes him off guard.
"I...that is a bit forward."
"You should know, she is considered unmariable, people would talk." She giggled
"they do little else." He reminded her.
"If it makes a difference, she likes you." Belle continued. Jack pushed himself from the floor and walked away
"Good night Belle."
*_*_*_*
You had written out an invite for Jack for the evening and gave it to Belle knowing she would be at the hospital again in the morning. You hoped he would attend. It would be nice to see him in a social capacity....no not nice, more than nice. You waited quietly for the evening, mostly listening to Fanny tattle on about Sneed.
When the time came to dress you put on a taffeta green dress, that fell off your shoulders. Your maid fixed your hair into a circlet of plates and twists around your head. Standing from your dresser you feel that telltale clench of your heart.
"Oh, please not tonight. Let me be good for Fanny. " you say to your reflection. Each breath you take slowly and try to relax yourself, your mind drifts back to that night when Dawkins listened to your chest and you wondered if he heard what Belle does.
"y/n, Fanny desperately wants us downstai- oh god y/n!" Belle rushed over to you.
"I'm fine, I'm alright, it was just a small attack. I'll be okay. Don't say anything to Fanny, it will upset her." You say between strained breaths.
Belle stayed quiet but helped you to walk down the stairs to the front door where your family were waiting for the evening's guests.
"Is he coming?" You ask Belle.
"I think so." She replies.
A burgundy carriage tolls up with the professor and Sneed inside. Both men were dressed in their finest suits, but your eyes were looking to the edge of the lawn. Dawkins was walking up, the navel uniform adorning his body.
Fanny appeared beside you and Belle. A strange look on her face.
"I think I may have grown more attached to the idea of Sneed than Sneed. Is that possible?" She asked.
"I don't know the first thing about men at all." Belle laughed, your eyes were still locked on the Doctor as your sisters danced back into the house.
" What's Dawkins doing here?" Sneed stood beside you. He had been a childhood friend to you and you knew him very well. The hard exterior was just that. The man was much softer when you knew him.
"Why wouldn't he be?" You hit back at him.
"Dawkins isn't quite the man of medicine you think he is." Sneed huffed.
"I'll make that distinction for myself." You say dismissing him. Dawkins walked up to you.
"Lady y/n, good evening." He said
"Good evening Doctor. I am glad you came." You walk inside with him and make your way to the dining room. Belle had ensured that you were sitting across the table from Jack.
As dinner began you gestured to him to remove his white gloves and pointed to the right fork to use for the quail egg starter. Sneed caught the action between you.
"Dr. Dawkins, you've recently joined us in the land of the misbegotten?" Your mother asks.
"No, I've been here some time now." He corrected her.
"You washed up ashore, did you?" She laughed.
"Dr. Dawkins was decorated for gallantry at the Siege of Sevastopol." You say proudly. Jack hadn't realised you knew that about him.
"Um... Just as a Surgeon Lieutenant. It's nothing more than butchery, Milady, and I grew tired of that, so..."
" And before then? Your people?" You were growing annoyed with her questions.
" English." He says.
"Mother." You warn.
The subject is changed as they begin discussing the head surgeon role that would soon be available. Glancing to your side at Belle, you see the glint in her eye.
"And we must plan for the future, when the position of Head Surgeon will become available. Dr. Sneed..." the Governor began
"Wasn't Dr. Dawkins responsible for the second surgery that saved Rotty's life?" Belle interrupted.
"A second surgery?"
"He did what?"
"I believe Dr. Dawkins successfully treated the first carotid aneurysm in history." Belle announced.
"I thought you said you'd fixed her." Edmund growled.
"I most certainly did, sir. There's no accounting for what he did after that." The men were all speaking at once.
" We haven't even started on the soup." Your mother shook her head.
"I love soup." Fanny said.
You weren't sure how but the argument grew until Jack's ability to read was brought up and Jack was ready to fight Sneed. You stand, slamming your napkin to the table.
"ENOUGH! ALL OF YOU. Sit down." You shake with anger. "Do none of you have any decency? A woman almost lost her life and all you men care about is your egos. Call yourself Doctors? At least Dr Dawkins cares about his patients and the people of this town, which is more than I can say for the lot of you" you glare at your father. He looks ashamed of himself.
At that moment Gaines comes marching into the room, Fagin in his clutches.
The vagrant tells you all a fast story of woe as a carriage pulls up outside. To everyone's surprise Mrs Gaines and Darius were inside.
The coins from the soldiers pay in their bags.
"Take them to the lock up!' Gaines ordered the carriage driver.
Everyone else moved back into the house. You, Jack and Belle stayed in your place.
"You dragged me here for your own ambitions. You only invited me because when Sneed takes over, he won't allow you anywhere near a surgery, and you thought that I might. Just admit that." He shouted at your siater.
"Clearly, I backed the wrong horse." Belle answered.
" You are more than welcome to attend a surgery as a nurse. But no, that's well beneath you. Why don't you just enjoy the rare option of never havin' to work?" Jack continued.
"I am rare. I've had biology tutors and medical texts. I've corresponded with surgeons. I'll never see the inside of a surgical theatre, but they'll take a man who can't read."
Jack opened his mouth to argue but turned away without saying a word. He walked swiftly away. You pushed past Belle, giving her a setting glare and ran after him.
"Jack, Jack please stop." You call out, reaching out for his arm. Jack spins round to face you.
"I can read, I can read. Just not very well. Words swirl on the page for me, and yes maybe I am the wrong horse because I'm not in a position to help your sister certainly not after tonight."
A tear dropped down your face.
"Belle often can be blinded by her ambitions, but she does mean well. She only ever wanted to learn." You say.
Jack sees the tear and he sighs, his hands going to his hips.
"You are too nice to her." He says stepping closer to you, "why do you let her treat you this way?" He asks.
You shake your head.
"I...she is my sister, I would do- oh" you say, your hand rising to hold your chest. The heel of your palm pressed against your sternum.
"What is it? Tell me what's wrong?" Jack grabbed hold of you around the waist and led you to the small bench close by.
"I'm alright, my corset is a little too tight for running. That is all." You lie.
"Y/n, I'm a doctor."
"I know, just please leave it alone. Forgive my sister, she is young. I'll talk to her." You say, one hand still clutching onto Jack's arm.
"I should walk you back to the house." He announced and you nod.
"No, it's alright, I'll be alright." You insist, "you should return to Fagin. It was a good plan, planting the money on Darius and Peggy."
Jack attempted to reply but the words couldn't find their way from his brain to his mouth. You pat his hand before walking back toward the house.
