So my 6th graders are doing a research project on Kpop groups and soloists right now and the JOY and EXCITEMENT I see from all of them is so fun to watch! Like, most of them only know BTS and I made them pick groups like EXO, Red Velvet, Ateez, Mamamoo, etc. and they think it is SO COOL

What Your Band Teacher Might Not Tell You About Instrument Maintenance
When you join the school band and pick up a musical instrument for the first time, the excitement of making music often overshadows the practicalities of instrument maintenance. While your band teacher covers the basics of handling and care, they likely will not have time to cover the nuances of each instrument’s upkeep regimen. Let’s dive into some essential maintenance tips to consider.

I was in a music class with random fictional characters and the Beast from Disney’s animated Beauty and the Beast was yelling at me for playing the triangle wrong.

"Music isn't necessary in schools"
YES IT IS!!!!!!!! AND ILL FUCKING TELL YOU WHY VERY AGRESSIVELY!!
Music saves lives!! I am still living BECAUSE of my highschool music class. I am a more well adjusted person because of CHOIR. Music isn't always an academic subject for everyone, sometimes it's an escape! A place where they can feel better!
For me music was a massive part of making me realise that I wasn't alone, that there were other people out there just like me, and I met them THROUGH A CLUSTER SCHOOL CHOIR THAT I WOULDNT HAVE HAD ACCESS TO IF MY HIGHSCHOOL DIDNT HAVE A MUSIC CLASS.
Even AFTER highschool that shit sticks with you. I had a friend of mine pass away a couple of years ago and I had no idea how to process it in a way that didn't just make everything worse. Yknow what I did? I wrote songs about it. I processed my grief in a way that was comfortable before I was able to spiral into a pit. I was able to take some of the worst moments in my life and make them into pieces that
-sounded good
-gave me a place to put it down.
-gave me something to look back on and reflect
ALL BECAUSE I LEARNED THINGS LIKE MUSIC LITERACY.
MUSIC. HAS. AN. IMPORTANT. PLACE. IN. THE. CIRRICULUM. LEAVE IT THERE.
