Welcome to soonhoonsol’s gif tutorial!

As a nice anon asked me how I make my gifs, I thought it’d be cool to create an in-depth tutorial :) Perhaps this can help some others enter the gif-ing world too!

What we’ll be using for this tutorial:

Software: Bandicam, Avisynth, Photoshop CC 2018, Topaz Labs

File Format: .mp4

Operating System: Windows

Disclaimer: This is just my method. Every gif maker works differently and has different preferences. What works for me may not work for you, and that’s completely okay!

Let’s get into it!

1. Find the best quality video you can find

This really depends on the content you want to gif. For variety shows, music videos or photoshoots, any video of [1080p] should be sufficient. Try not to use anything below 720p.

For stage performances, fancams tend to have higher resolutions [1440p, 4k]. Use these if your computer can handle it. If not, usually 1080p works fine. The best option would be to download .ts files, which provide clearer and less grainy videos.

2. Screen recording

As a Windows user, I don’t have a built-in screen recorder on my laptop. So, I use Bandicam, which is a free screen recording software. The only con to it is that it has a watermark.

To combat the watermark, I always have the boundary box a little bigger than the video itself so that I can crop it out of the gif.

This is what the recording would look like:

Just record the scene(s) that you want to gif so your video file doesn’t end up too large! Your recording should be in .mp4 format.

(You may use pure .ts files in Avisynth but it never worked well for me so I usually screen record the .ts video and move on)

You can find your recorded videos in Documents > Bandicam.

3. Avisynth

I followed THIS tutorial to download Avisynth. This software is really helpful if you want sharp and clear gifs! I recommend to follow the steps in the tutorial as the below method stems from it.

- Once you have downloaded it, open up your recorded video from Step 2 and watch it. Take note of the duration you want to gif. (e.g. from 00:01 to 00:05)

- Drag your video file into normalwebrange.bat. On Windows, you can find this in File Explorer > Local Disk (C:) > video. For other .bat files, you may check out THIS tutorial.

- In the pop-up box, key in the start time for your gif (e.g. 00:00:01). It has to be in hh:mm:ss format. Press “enter”.

- Key in the end timing and press “enter” again. A resizer should pop up in an Internet Browser. I found that Firefox works best for me.

- In the resizer, you may indicate the size of the gif you’d like to make. You can also click and drag the video to resize and frame it to your liking. You may refer to THIS post for Tumblr dashboard sizing.

(These are some common gif sizes for stage performances):

1 gif - 540px by 540px (square)

2 gifs - 268px by 350px

3 gifs - 177/178px by 250px

- Under “Preprocessor”, select “debilinear” for the second box. For the first box, you may pick between qtgmc 30 (same frame rate as video) or qtgmc 60 (doubles the frame rate; smoother).

- You will also see “fast” or “slow” options. These are just how long the video will take to render. “Fast” will give you slightly lower quality as compared to “slow”, but usually is good enough.

(You can see that his features are sharper and more defined in the “slow” gif as compared to the “fast” one.)

- Copy the code in the white box. Navigate to the scripting window (it should have popped up with the resizer) and paste the code at line 17. Type a “#” before qtgmc on the same line. This will prevent the software from lagging.

- Click on the inverted triangle at the bottom of the screen. Your video will now appear in the scripting window. Drag the slider to the intended starting point of your gif and press the “home” key on your keyboard.

- Drag the slider again to the intended ending point of your gif and press the “end” key on your keyboard. This blue area you see is the duration of your gif.

- On an empty line (I usually go to line 8), place your cursor there and click “Apply” in the mini pop-up window. Afterwards, remove the “#” from line 17.

- Go to File > Save or press Ctrl + S to save the code. Close the scripting window. The video renderer will pop up. When it’s done, it will automatically close by itself.

4. Using Photoshop and Topaz

I’m using my school license for Photoshop 2018, but if you don’t have that, there are plenty of cracked versions for free. I don’t have any to recommend though so I’m sorry about that :(

I followed THIS video tutorial to download Topaz plug-ins for free. I use Topaz DeNoise (the most helpful) and Clean, but you may use others if you’d like :)

Alright, let’s dive in to the steps!

- Open up Photoshop and go to File > Import > Video Frames to Layers.

- A pop-up will appear. You can find your deinterlaced Avisynth video in File Explorer > Local Disk (C:) > video > temp > video.avi. Follow the settings in the picture and click “OK”.

- Go to Window > Timeline to open up the timeline. You should be able to see your gif spread out in frames. If you press the play button, it should play like a video.

- (Quick optional step I learned from THIS tutorial) Go to Image > Canvas and set the Resample option to “Bicubic (smooth gradients)”.)

- Select the first frame of your gif in the timeline. Shift select the last frame. Go to Window > Layers. Shift select these layers as well.

- With everything selected, click the 3 lines at the top right corner of the timeline. Select “Convert to Video Timeline”.

- At the top of the screen, select Filter > Convert for Smart Filters. Your layers will condense into one layer. Don’t worry, your gif is fine.

- Now it’s time to sharpen the gifs. Go to Filter > Sharpen > Smart Sharpen. Play around with the settings to your liking!

- If you’ve downloaded Topaz correctly, it should appear under Filter > Topaz Labs. If a pop-up asks you for an activation key, you may use THESE to activate it for free.

- Go to Filter > Topaz Labs > DeNoise and/or Clean and play with the settings until you’re satisfied.

5. Blurring

If your gifs have captions/logos that are distracting, you’d want to blur them out. Don’t be like 2018 me that blurred out the logo frame by frame; it’s very tiring. Instead, using this method from @scoupsy‘s tutorial, you’ll save lots of time.

- In the Layers tab (Windows > Layers), select the “New Layer” icon. It should be blank.

- Select the Brush tool. Make sure the “Hardness” setting is below 20%. This will blend the blurring nicely into the gif.

(For the sake of this tutorial, I will be blurring out the Bandicam logo to show you.)

- Paint over the captions/logos. Make sure this is on the blank layer!

- Duplicate (Right Click > Duplicate) the gif layer and drag it so that it’s on top of the blank layer.

- Right click on the duplicate layer and select “Create Clipping Mask”.

- Go to Filter > Blur > Gaussian Blur and play around with the settings until you’re satisfied with the level of blurring. Click “OK”.

6. Flattening & Colouring

- Once you’re done with sharpening and/or blurring, click on the 3 lines on at the right corner of the video timeline and go to Convert Frames > Flatten Frames Into Clips.

- Topaz layers and blurring will take some time to render so you can just chill for now~

- When it’s done rendering, click again on the 3 lines and go to Convert Frames > Make Frames From Clips.

- Convert it back to the gif timeline by clicking on the 3-box icon at the bottom left of the timeline.

- Select the first frame of your gif. It must be the FIRST.

- Scroll to the top of the layers and select the layer at the top. Any other layers you add should be on top of this layer. VERY IMPORTANT!!

- In the Adjustments Tab (Window > Adjustments), there are many different things to play with. There’s a high chance you won’t use everything, but here’s a few of my favourites.

Levels - Adjust the brightness and contrast of your gif in depth.

Hue/Saturation - Useful for changing colours, or switching it to black and white.

Color Balance - Tweak the colours to your liking.

Colour Lookup - Comes with built-in LUTs that you can use as a preset. Great starting point for colouring. Saves time too. You can even download plug-ins for this. 11/10 tool.

Selective Colour - Adjust the vibrancy of specific colours.

- Colouring is completely up to the gifmaker. Go crazy go stupid :D

7. Exporting

We’re almost to the end!

- Set the timing for your gif.

If you used qtgmc30, the best timing would be 0.04s / 0.05s / 0.06s.

If you used qtgmc60, the best timing would be 0.02s / 0.03s / 0.04s.

- Once you’re satisfied with everything, go to File > Export > Save for Web (Legacy).

- Follow the settings in the picture below:

- Tumblr’s gif limit is 10mb per gif. Check the gif size at the bottom left of the pop-up window. Make sure it’s below 10mb; the smaller the better.

- Click “Save”. Choose where you’d like to save the gif.

- Done!

march rewind: 2021

music.

ateez. just everything and anything ateez. i am officially an atiny. all of their tracks. the music videos, all their variety show contents. i am here for it all. 10 out of 10 would recommend diving in and enjoying all that they have to offer. it’s been a great time.

‘rollin’' by brave girls. of course this needed to make it’s way onto my playlist, as it is currently the national anthem of korea. it’s crazy to see a song that has been out for a hot minute make such an impact on the charts. their vocals are so strong, and i am surprised i have not heard of them really before this event. but the song is great, and is best experienced when driving on the highway sung with friends at the top of your lungs.

‘run’ by sorn. this girl is also making moves and i love that she is able to do what she loves. you can truly see how much she loves singing and performing in the music video. and i cannot wait until the day that these artists will be able to perform to their hearts content and see fans in real life again. on to the track, the vibe is so different from previous clc tracks and i love that for her. it’s a chill cute fresh vibe, and it fits her so well. i also love the cover art for her start as a individual artist. i further watched her behind the scenes and this girl is a queen and curated this all herself with her friends. what a wonderful story to see all that perseverance can create.

‘on the ground’ by rose. our queen had a tremendous comeback and we are proud of our girl. i love that she was able to release the track in a language she wanted and it was unexpected to me at least that it was in english, not only the main track but also her b-side, ‘gone’ (also love). it was great, and i love the creative choreography, and truly appreciate that her dancers had their own fancams.

‘b.l.t. (bling like this)’ by treasure. it’s fun. we already love bang ye dam’s vocals and when i heard this track as the outro for a youtube video i had to investigate. it’s cute, bright and cheerful. love it.

fam this genre may have it’s own category this month because it has been owning my playlist:

‘ohio’ by hyukoh.

‘jam & butterfly (feat. crush & eaJ)’ by dpr live. this song is literal honey. the vibes the tone in their voices. these three vocals just mesh so well together, and i am obsessed with this track.

dept. recently discovered this incredible artist. i have been loving ‘2 years’ feat soon zero, ‘summer again’ feat saula, and ‘even after july’ feat kuro. seriously his tone is something else.

‘home sweet home’ by car, the garden.

dramas & movies. *spoiler alert*

space sweepers. finally got around to watching this stellar sci-fi film. i enjoyed the plot with the dystopian-utopian future, unique and likely crew of friends, and the most precious gem of ‘potential destruction’. if you haven’t jumped aboard this one i would 10 out fo 10 recommend. plus it has our man song joongki as one of the leads.

love alarm season 2. sooooo season two was a journey that i did not expect. i like suho. i was so conflicted. i waited thinking the writers would fix the wrongs in season one. but here we are suho broken hearted without jojo. my heart is aching and shattered because of the travesty that is upon us. i think there was supposed to be a deeper meaning when she was running through the conquered forest she once wanted to escape so desperately, and they she finally embraced her old self. and hye-yeong was waiting for her at the end of the race. but i was just so sour about the situation with suho i neglected to see the other meanings present at that point. this whole season was truly a joke on me/us as viewers because it was wack. i did not expect to see suho as the second male lead. like honey, he can be first male lead in my life any time he wants. okay but back to the drama, it was okay not what i wanted but it was good and well made. so i guess i’d give it a 7.5 out of 10. still mad at this point.

koi wa tsuzuku yo dokomademo (love that lasts forever). this was a sweet japanese drama. following our sweet girl, sakura, as a aspiring nurse having running into the great doctor, tendo. he is stoic and shows no heart in his work as a cardiac physician. she approaches him and eventually makes her way into his heart. their relationship is sweet. i would rate this a 8 out of 10. i appreciate the way that japanese dramas develop and the sweet level of romance that permeates the entire drama.

sunbae don’t put on that lipstick. the perfect office romance for early spring. of course i added this one to my two watch list after seeing rowoon was a part of this cast. after ‘extraordinary you’ i have been invested in his acting journey and this drama did not disappoint. this drama follows a office worker, songah, who is secretly dating her manager. her younger hoobae, chae hyunseung has a crush on her from afar, and soon stumbles upon their manager planning a wedding with his fiancé, not our girl mind you. this leads to a string of events that empowers our dude to gain courage to become outspoken with his feelings for songah. we get to follow the blossoming of their relationship and the events that ensue thereafter. hyunseung had the best lines in this drama.

sunbae. you can take your time. but if you come to me i’ll show you the most beautiful love ever.

you don’t have to risk anything sunbae. i’ll risk it all for you.

and i love how the drama ends with them saying how they want to experience everything together

let’s see cherry blossoms in the spring. ocean in the summer. leaves in the autumn. and snow in the winter...every year.

Tegoshige Top 25

“More Tegoshige, please!” - said absolutely noone and I delivered. Well, this isn’t for 5 likes, this is for me. I’ve had this blog for 6,5 years now and I decided to look back on the best it had to offer. This is my rating of top Tegoshige moments, excluding those that tightly involved other members (so the making out had to be left out ;;). The things that made my heart doki doki... It was originally a top 10 but it was getting hard to pick so I decided there literally was no reason to hold back so here we are.

#25 4x9

That one time Tegoshige went on location together (which is already a blessing) and Tegoshi got freaked out because of insects running about and nearly got into Shige’s lap. Nearly. So it heads the list.

# 24 Halloween 2017

Tegoshi was Oiran - an elite courtesan - and Shige was Alex from Clockwork Orange. This was but a short moment but is lasted forever in my mind.

#23 Dropped earring

This was during White final. After the boisterous MC scene where Shige was the couch and Tegoshi was the girlfriend, Shige noticed Tegoshi dropped his earring, picked it up and gave it back to him. Just a minor moment, but Tegoshi was still in girlfriend mode and it was incredibly soft. Video here.

#22 Neverland in Tokyo encore 2017/06/11

Tegoshi got very emotional after he went backstage but the fans kept cheering so they went back on stage again and Tegoshi wouldn’t stop crying so Shige led him softly.

#21 As long as Tegoshi is happy...

Before a live performance, they were interviewed and as it was just after Tegoshi’s birthday, they were asked what they wanted to give so...

S: … (in his best ikemen voice) As long as Tegoshi is happy, that is enough! T: Ahhh! ♥ I am loved! Thank you, Shige-chan! I wanna hug you!~

It was a photoshoot for Biteki. They were originally in different sandboxes but Tegoshi got lonely very soon.

#19 Hairstylist Shige

Shige has been Tegoshi’s stylist for years, since the early days. You can see it in photos and several DVDs, most notably Live Diamond. Video cut here.

#18 “Shige, thank you!”

The night after the Neverland Tokyo concert, 2017 Shige got a call...

S: After the concert ended, Tegoshi had a party with his friends. And so late at night he suddenly called me saying “Could you come for a bit?” S: He seemed to be serious and he cried so much at the concert. (laugh) I got worried and came over but this guy… he just fell asleep! (laugh) K&M: That’s terrible. S: He woke up once, looked at me saying “Shige, thank you!” and went back to sleep. T: Moreover, I was sleeping in Shige’s lap. [S]

Tegoshi: After the last concert in Tokyo Dome I invited several members of staff and Juniors and we basically did a wrapping up party. I called Shige at 3 AM and he came but I ended up falling asleep in Shige’s lap though I don’t remember that at all. I heard it afterwards but apparently I sang “I’m coming” and Shige sang “Ayame” but I don’t remember a bit… [S]

#17 Neverland in Tokyo 2017/06/10

According to a fan report: At the intro of some song, Shige grabbed Tegoshi by the waist tightly. At first, Tegoshi was playing along but Shige didn’t let go and Tegoshi, not used to being attacked, got embarrassed.

#16 Umeboshi

Shige’s been making umeboshi for years now and his #1 fan is none other than Tegoshi.

S: I’ve been doing it for 10 years. It’s not that I like them, I hardly eat them myself. During the tour our Tegoshi eats quite a lot of them. I leave it (in the dressing room) so after the concert he opens it and eats it. About half of them I make for Tegoshi. [2017.02.08 Moshimono Futari]

Q: If you were to give Christmas presents to the members what would it be?

A: …Well, umeboshi! Umeboshi! Eat my umeboshi and get healthy! I give it to Tegoshi every year though. Ah, but that’s showing “Love”. I give it all the time but it’s a deep love that has a special depth! (laugh) [2018.12.05 TVガイド]

This is perfect for several reasons, how naturally this fells, how there’s a perfectly empty chair next to them, and how at the end Tegoshi stumbled and Shige is cautioning him.

#13 Tegoshige Kabe-don and confession

During k-chan news, they played the Prince game and Koyama wanted a kabe-don. So Tegoshi kabe-don’d Shige and told him “I love you!”

#12 Tegoshi’s kirakira eyes

Back in 2009, Shige had a diary and I’m really sorry he does not anymore because one day after a photoshoot he wrote this:

At that time he had seemed to be already smiling and looking at me Looking at me at such a close distance Is this an effect from DREAM BOYS As compared to before, the distance was so much more closer Tegoshi Yuya Indeed is a prince………….. Oh please won’t you be even a little embarrassed. Just how strong is your heart? Don’t look at me like that………… Being looked at with those shiny eyes…………… The atmosphere will become weird (oдO) ………………………………….. Tegoshi Yuya who has ended the photoshoot using those shiny eyes, had walked towards DREAM BOYS with that pair of eyes Ah~ shiny shiny Tegoshi eyes~ I’ll be waiting for that photoshoot~ I wonder… for which magazine would it be Oh the kira kira eyes

#11 That Taiwan hotel video

We all remember that one. Tegoshi in his bathrobe going out to visit ‘other members’’ rooms but he only goes to Shige’s and gets comfortable on his bed, and gets pounced, and the next thing they show, it’s morning.

#10 Soukon thigh stroking

That time the camerman got very fascinated with Tegoshi’s legs and the other members teased him about it and called him a pervert. Then, Shige decided to stroke those thighs because... well, he can.

#9 Taking a bath together!

- An unforgettable episode that happened on stage.

Kato: Because of a thunderstorm we had to stop the concert. We moved it to a later date. After a break the 4 of us got into tiny bathtubs, 2 in each and it felt sort of like a field trip, (laugh) the bath was warm. [Duet 2015.04]

They also talked about it during an MC at the time.

Shige pretended to climb into the “tub” with Tegoshi. “We were Team… What was it again?” T: Team “We haven’t done our solos yet”. S: And Tegoshi was sliding all over the place and smacking into me. He was such a naughty guy. T: It couldn’t be helped. It’s slippery. K: But baths are nice, aren’t they? Shige answered in a chill voice, “Yeah, they’re great.” [S]

#8 Worldista routine

I think this was during Weeek where they make up different letters with their bodies. Every concert it went differently but several times Tegoshi left his place and went over to Shige. This fancam pictured the time he got on top of him. Or tried to.

Also here’s a report from Nagano, May 25:

Tegoshi goes to Shige and captures him in a hug and Shige hugs him back. Then Shige picks Tegoshi up and carries him like a sleeping child to his original position. [Fanart here]

#7 Showers

Tegoshi is long known to invade other people’s privacy and during the tour, other people’s shower stalls are no exception. There are many recent episodes but here’s one account:

Q2: Shige-chan said in Nagoya when he took a shower Tegoshi appeared right before his eyes but does he do it always?

S: Not… always but he did it quite a lot on this tour. He trespassed about 3-4 times I think. He would enter the shower room I went to really quietly. That’s why I got really startled. He’d get happy he made me surprised and start grinning. (laugh) I would counterattack by pouring water over him.

Then, there’s an important MC from 2008. One time, during the tour Massu wanted to take a shower but as he entered the stalls, he met a naked Shige standing proudly. Shige explained he was only waiting on Tegoshi who earlier danced for him naked. Massu was like “Cool, I’ll leave you to it.”

#6 DTF ‘ago-kui’

There were many instances during two whole tours and also a SCP performance. Each time seems a little closer and more intimate, but each time looks equally fun on both sides.

#5 Accessible Emma outfit

Now we know that Shige, unlike Tegoshi, is not a touchy kind of guy. So him doing something like this, especially on air, is pretty unusual. Tegoshi said Shige did it a lot backstage too.

#4 “I wanna stir you up”

This line from ‘S’ was a real hit and Tegoshi basically admitted it got him horny. Twice. Detailed posts here and here.

Who do you think has the most sex appeal?

Tegoshi: Shige. His face is handsome like a nobility but he’s also manly. Rather than a shining sexuality his sexuality is monochrome… a deep sexuality. It’s the kind that slowly unravels as you get to know him. [Wink Up, 2013.12]

Who would be a perfect boyfriend in NEWS?

Tegoshi: Wouldn’t that be Shige? It seems like he wouldn’t be clingy but all the while even when he’s silent, in his heart he’d be like “I’m thinking about you properly ♥” keeping a good distance. [Ane Can 2015]

Look with a “female gaze” and say who’s the most handsome member Tegoshi: Alright, I’m switching to female… click! …Hello, I’m Yuko! (laugh) So… for me it’s Shige. The reason is his face and his way of life. His face is up to my taste (laugh) and he doesn’t hesitate in words or in actions. His open-minded way of thinking is similar to mine. K: Do it properly! Seriously. Connect hands “lover style”, look at each other. *giggle* S: Tegoshi has a really cute face. Really cute face and a good voice… K: That’s not it. S: A nice voice and beautiful eyes… K: Something you really like, really like. S: But I really do like it. K: Something more about his personality. S: If it’s about his personality then… even when he complains he still does his job properly.

1. What was your first fandom? Are you still a part of it?

uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.............. i guess it was legend of the guardians: the owls of ga’hoole, given that those owl books consumed my waking thoughts when i was 12, even if i didn’t exactly engage with the fandom everywhere. and i still love the movie/books, so i guess i am?

a close, close second was avatar: the last airbender. i actually started watching it right as that big countdown to the comet event was airing, which was a wild time to get into it.

2. Current self care method(s)?

not looking at the news.

3. What are three (3) shows you keep meaning to binge watch but haven’t yet?

the king: eternal monarch, merlin, the twilight zone

4. Do you stay active in fandoms after a new one catches your eye, or are you more a one at a time person?

tbh i don’t rly know what constitutes ‘active’ mainly because i’m mostly a lurker in all my other fandoms. i reblog shit, and i rant in the tags, but i don’t really talk to people about it, though just because i shift interests doesn’t mean i don’t care anymore. but largely, i tend to have one Big Obsession at a time, but my other interests tend to bubble back up. like, this blog is like 30% umbrella academy content, but you’re about to be in for a massive infusion of fire emblem art in the next few days.

5. What was the last movie you saw with someone else? What would you rate it?

saw joker 2019 with my mother. solid ~9.4/10, not for everyone, but a great experience to watch in a crowd and an interesting take on the character.

6. Favorite guilty pleasure?

7. What’s a highly underrated show/movie/book series that you would recommend?

book series: guardians of ga’hoole. basically, lord of the rings, but with owls. ridiculous title, ridiculous premise, but bro. i’m telling you. this shit is damn good.

for the fiveyas, the legendary how much was mine to keep by wolfspider. one of the first fiveya fics in general, and one of the first in the now-thriving subgenre of five-and-vanya-leave-together-and-are-trapped-in-the-apocalypse-together au. i literally have to hype myself up to read it because it’s That Good. the chemistry and the characterization are phenomenal, the pacing is great, and more than that, the writing is just.... *chefs kiss.*

my current pdx101 picks (ep.7)

i think i'm more or less narrowing down my top 11. tbh i have a fair few that i just wouldn't mind any combination of as the final line-up with a few fixed picks.

fixed picks

1. choi suhwan: it's only been a couple of hours since i watched the episode so i am still very very very annoyed :) bc the live voters :) did him so dirty :) and he ended up in 20th place :) out of the entire vocal position :) when he legit did nothing wrong :) and was fantastic :) i swear down if he doesn't make it past the next elimination, i will throw my phone at the wall

2. cho seungyoun: the best all-rounder currently in the competition lbr. what would the final line up even be without him

3. song yuvin: this episode solidified him as a fixed pick for me. i love his dynamics with the other trainees (he is the biggest dork ever and i love his friendship with suhwan 💕) and his voice goes well with others in the group

4. kim yohan: not the strongest vocalist or dancer but i definitely think he can improve to that point and his personality is honestly a 10/10 for me. i think it's impossible not to love him tbh

other strong contenders

5. lee jinhyuk!!! i already had a good feeling about him last episode, i just needed to see more of him to solidify my opinions and thank god i did that. he handled the whole fiasco with turtle ship so well, a lot better than i would've, and i think he's the type to inspire his fellow members which is always important. def leader material, i love him ♡

6. won hyuk: mnet did a bit of an evil edit on him in this episode but it didn't work with me. tbh i understand why he's so desperate since he, more than anyone, understands the value of benefit points. but i got the feeling that baekjin and yuri maybe don't... like him very much? i don't think the tension was as one-sided as baekjin implied. but yes he got 1st overall in rap which i was so so happy about bc he needs it more than dohyun lbr

7. nam dohyun: speaking of him, he is also on the list. i do love a good rapper and think he definitely can be that

8. han seongwoo: vocals are beautiful, he is beautiful, everyone loves him. what's not to like? my only worry is his age and the whole issue of military enlistment tbh

9. kim hyunbin: not given enough attention but i love the passion and he is both a decent singer + good rapper. i rate it ♡

10. kim sihun: i've always quite liked him, i think he brings a lot to the table in terms of dance, composition and so on.

others i am keeping an eye on

11. lee hangyul: i lowkey wanted him to place first in the dance position. idk what it is about him that draws me to him. honestly i think i just need to watch his fancams to solidify him as a strong contender

12. son dongpyo: he was amazing in believer. i think he's a solid dancer, meshes well with the older trainees (aka serving a good link between younger ones and the older ones) and would probably do well in variety. i think a lot of the criticism he gets is a bit undue tbh

(tbh the distinction between strong contenders and these two is vv small)

13. lee midam: i am just drawn to him idky. again, he's another person i think can bring a lot to the table and he really is a good vocalist. i heard he arranged twit which means he has talent, right?

14. kim wooseok: i had him as a strong contender last week but i think i mislabeled him. i've pretty much accepted him as part of the final line-up, i just don't particularly stan him. he's pretty subdued on the show, though i've heard he's actually a right laugh and tbh given his "scandal", i understand why he is

15. choi byungchan: never given enough screentime but i like his personality and his voice is lovely. he was the best for me in his team's performance this week so his rank was so undeserving. honestly the only reason he isn't in 'strong contender' for me is probably bc of his lack of screentime.

as you can probably see, i lean more towards older trainees and rappers. tbh i'd be cool with any mix of these trainees as long as they gel well together and have a cool concept.

Finally, Yuzuru Hanyu (22) successfully landed the 4Lz. A formidable element that he’d overcome his coach’s objection to master. Will this jump become Hanyu’s weapon? Or is it a double-edged sword?

Hanyu first successfully executed the 4Lz in competition during the Free Skate event of the Rostelecom Cup, the first Grand Prix. Of all successfully landed jumps, it is the one that garners the most points.

Behind his decision to challenge [the element] lies a dilemma stemming from the Autumn Classic in September.

Due to pain in the right knee, Hanyu had avoided the 4Lo, his most difficult element. Lacking the fire of a challenge, he made mistakes repeatedly and concluded the competition in second place. After his performance, he declared, “Without challenging myself, there’s no way I can perform like myself after all.” However, just as he was planning to train the 4Lz with the Rostelecom Cup in sight, coach Brian Orser objected, “4Lz is a dangerous element. If it [were you, you] can hit the world’s highest scores even without the Lutz.”

So Hanyu explained his approach to competing, “The current world’s highest score was reached with nothing but the Toe Loop and the Salchow [in terms of quads], and if [I follow] that strategy, actually I do have the self-assurance of going clean. But, in going for a safe strategy, personally I feel that I’ll have lost the meaning as to why I skate. If I were to only focus on artistry, then, I think, that is not a competition.”

Orser accepted this explanation, and Hanyu began his training of the 4Lz.

The Free Skate of the Rostelecom Cup arrived. The success rate [of the 4Lz] during Official Practice was 10%, and Hanyu was second place in the Short Program the day before. Even so, Hanyu was in high spirits from the challenge. “All around me, and myself included, everyone looks forward to my landing the 4Lz. I would like to tackle this, properly, and with greed towards victory.”

And then, at the outset of the free skate. Landing the 4Lz admirably, [Hanyu] demonstrated his “strength at the crucial moment.”

“At last, I was able to challenge with this layout. Taking this as a step [forward], I’m going to raise the level of completion,” said Hanyu after the competition.

Of course, one sees both good and bad [in this].

On the mental side, the good is greater. Hanyu himself says this: “This time, while tackling a variety of things, I was so nervous, and I really felt the joy of skating until my legs turned to mush. When I put pressure on myself and that [pressure] is aptly released––that’s when I can become stronger.” Through incorporating the 4Lz, the entire jump layout of the program is also boosted.

Under the rule of “repeating up to 2 types of jumps,” “there ends up being one solo triple, and I’m able to jump the triple Axel, my specialty, twice (t/n 3A being 3.5 revolutions). In terms of points, that’s huge. The fact that I was able to place first in the free skate even with such numerous mistakes was due to the base value of the Lutz.” (Hanyu)

But, the risk is also great. The base value of the 4Lz is 13.6, but in the event of underrotation by 180 degrees or more, plus a fall, it becomes 2.9. A cleanly landed 3Lz is able to garner a maximum of 8.1, so if the success rate is low, avoiding the element would be a good plan.

There’s also the difficulty of bringing together quads of different forms.”With the 4Lz and the 4Lo, I have to properly reconcile the arrangement of my focus. The ways of executing the jumps are completely different, and if I’m fiddling with this and that (of my form), it ends up in this jumbled state. I’m still inexperienced.” (Hanyu)

Orser was extremely calm. “With [the inclusion of] the Lutz, [the number of possible] patterns are increased. We will work out strategies with Yuzuru’s fighting spirit and my theory from experience in mind.”

In any case, the fact that Hanyu has a new weapon in hand is certain.

On review, I had the impression that he was ramping up to it, not quite harried, methodically figuring things out. The ice, the timing, how to switch in the short period between the 4Lz and the 4Lo in a packed program. Perhaps the distribution of energy, the breathing pattern? Plenty of communication with Brian throughout.

📖 2017.10.18: a day before the official practice, Yuzuru borrowed the rink for a 45-min closed practice session alone (media was allowed in). Extracted and summarized from B.B.Mook’s Yamaguchi’s report on Figure Skate Magazine, the first 30 minutes of the practice:

Hanyu began with some stroking, getting a sense of the ice. After warming up: 1A, 4T, 3A, 3A-2T(rippon), 1S, 4S slight stumble, 4S, 1Lz, 4Lz fall, 1Lz, 1Lz, 4Lz landed. 4S, 4Lo, 4Lo (both hands down), 4Lo (fell on butt), 4T (fell). When asked if he would incorporate the 4Lz that day, Hanyu did not reply, smiling as he left the arena.

📋 2017.10.19: Warm-up 3A, 2T, 4T, 4S, saved 4S, 2Lo, 4Lo in the first 10 minutes, before going through the motions for the Lutz, followed by a heavily landed attempt at the 11m mark. He then did a seemingly intentional popped Lz, nodding afterwards as if he had checked what he wanted on the landing. SEIMEI RT (popped Lz). 4T-Lo-3S, SP 3A. Almost 30 minutes into the practice, he began fiddling with the Lz and Lo again: 3 popped Lz in a row, confirming arm and shoulder movements into the Lz with Brian. Lo (SP entry, pop), 2Lo, marking Lo (SP) with twizzles, 4Lo (turnout, hand down), 4Lo (SP). Talked to Brian, squatted near Pooh, and focused. And then, at 35m, a beautiful 4Lz (GIF above).

📋 2017.10.20 (SP Day): Back-counter 3A out of nowhere to warm up. Chopin StSq, 3-turns into 3F, 4S3T, 4T-Lo-3S, 3-turns into 4T3T(rippon). Similar to the day before, he attempted the Lz’s around the 10m mark: 1Lz (pop), checking with Brian, pointing to shoulders, 1Lz (pop), perfect 4Lz on third attempt. Then went back to Brian/Kikuchi to check out the recorded footage. Afterwards, marked 4Lz motions with twizzles to confirm.

Warm-up 3A, 4S (a bit tight), transition into 4T – 3A2T(rippon), transition into 4T-Lo-3S, 4Lo (good but not much flow out), around 10m, 4Lz (step out), checked with Brian afterwards. 4Lz (starting from the beginning of the program, full entry, followed by transition into Lo), 2Lo (pop). After going to Brian, he attempted the Lz again from the start: 3 popped Lz in a row, 4Lz (two hands down, fall, low). Stroking, StSq, 3A, 4S3T, 4T-Lo, 4Lo, 1Lz (pop). Checking hip alignment here, he then landed 4Lz on toes (heavy landing, step out). SEIMEI RT (4Lz low landing and turn-out, 4Lo fall).

#DiamondEdgeinJakarta , Placed Me on the Edge of Joyful Tears

- Saturday, September 23rd 2017 -

That day is definitely going to be one of the most memorable days in 2017. I finally accomplished one of my life goals, to see Seventeen live.

Truth be told, there was a backstory behind this. Flashback to 2016, during their Asia Pacific Fanmeeting Tour. Well, my country was on the list. But the date was just not so compatible with my schedule because during that time I had to undergo a series of freshmen orientation program. August 20th 2016 was the first day of the orientation program so it was a logical reason to not attend their fanmeeting. Disappointed? Yes. Mad? Most definitely. But I made a promise to myself.

‘If the next year they will hold a world tour, I’m definitely going.’

I could say that I am pretty determined, and lucky, that I could actually prove my words.

And with that, here is the story of my amazing Saturday Night with the boys, and my family, the Rose Quartz and Serenity.

It’s happening! It’s finally happening! My long wait has come to an end. The crowd cheers as the opening VCR is played on the screen. The VCR is so bright and colorful it satisfies my eyes. Shortly after VCR ended...

‘JAKARTA! MAKE SOME NOISE!’

I know that voice. I know it too well. It was no other than Seventeen’s very own Happy Virus, Dokyeom. As he said so, the members are starting to appear one by one. I was in the edge of crying because THEY.ARE.SO.HANDSOME.IN.REAL.LIFE. For real!

And with that, the concert is opened with one of their hit songs... Pretty U.

Pretty U is one of my favorite songs. It’s just so sweet and light. Along with the cute and romantic meaning of the song, that’s my type of bubbly music. Not forgetting about the boys as well. They look so cute in those colorful suits. Cuteness just went up to a whole new level.

Once the first song was finished, Beautiful is up next.

Okay. Let me be honest. This is even bubblier(?) than Pretty U. And I swear, I saw Dino and The8 doing the backpack dance when Dokyeom was singing his first line. Everyone was just so sweet. Throwing hearts here and there. Waving to us with a smile painted on their faces. It’s so refreshing to see them do their thing like that. There’s also a snippet of JeongHao moment during the performance. Basically, this performance is fluffy explosion everywhere.

Once Beautiful is over, they move on to the last song of the session, Adore U

Adore U was a good ol’ classic. It just brings out their natural stage appeal. Along with the fun bickers by the members during the performance, it’s another type of stage that lifts up the audience’s mood. The highlight part is definitely Dokyeom’s ‘Baby you are my angel~’. For a moment, the whole audience and Seventeen became one when that line was sung. Overall, the opening sequence is amazing! What a way to start a day, or a concert in this case.

Next... They introduced themselves in Bahasa Indonesia. Indonesia 101, in terms of K-Pop Concerts, the most common way to greet the audience is by saying ‘Apa kabar? Nama saya ...’ which translates as ‘How are you? My name is ...’ . Seventeen did a really good job at that. I would like to point out that Jeonghan, has the cutest voice when he was greeting the audiences in Bahas Indonesia.

Again, Dokyeom is the one with the most energy in here. Oh, scratch that. Hoshi is probably the one with the most energy during their introduction. Hoshi used his iconic 10:10 introduction. In which the the audience replied as expected! The rest? As an Indonesia, I’m pretty impressed with their introductions. Pronunciation wise, they are pretty good for beginners. If they ever planned for another concert here, I hope they could improve their skill more.

Introduction took quite some time, perhaps 10 minutes or so. Once they finished, the stage continues with ‘Still Lonely’ and Performance Team’s ‘Swimming Fool’. Again, the last song to close the second song session is the hit song, ‘Very Nice’. With that, the first part of the concert was over.

Second part starts with the screen displaying a few photos of Seventeen during their childhood. I gotta say, Joshua, Jun, Vernon, and Mingyu has the best childhood photos. Jeonghan looks really plain back then. Well, now, he’s slaying, at the very least. So I guess that’s quite an upgrade for him. After the VCR ended, we were greeted with Seventeen in uniforms of black and white. Probably a High School Uniform and they are performing Mansae.

I would like to state that I love how they wrote ‘Jakarta Mansae’ on the blackboard. And Jeonghan sounded so clear when they were performing this song.

You may notice by now that my fancams usually starts with Jeonghan singing. It’s just because I love him so much. :3 Also, Hoshi in sleeveless tops are the death of me.

After Boom Boom ended, the members returned to their respective places to prepare for the next stage. Well, everyone but two, S.Coups and Wonwoo.

They are holding the ‘Going Seventeen’ camera and doing little talk sessions with us. S.Coups is quite known with his sweet talks. Basically S.Coups is just babying us Carats to the point where Wonwoo said ‘If you guys could scream loudly, S.Coups hyung will do aegyo’. Oh yeah we screamed alright. Who doesn’t want to see the leader’s aegyo anyways. Once they finished their talk, it marks as the end for the first quarter as well.

After the talks, S.Coups and Wonwoo introduced the next stage. I was expecting a unit performance. And guess what? Yep. We’re going to watch the units in action. First up for the session, Vocal Team.

They performed two songs. We Gonna Make It Shine, the new version, and Don’t Listen Secretly.

I have a question. Do Vocal Team sound like angels or angels sounded like Vocal Team? That’s a conspiracy circle that I will always wonder at.

No, for real. They sounded so clear and so good! I took special attention to my biases since I know that they didn’t have much lines compared to the other three. When I was listening... Wow, my ears has never been this blessed. You know the difference in quality between a live broadcast on a music show and actually hearing them live. Like they’re singing in front of you. Their voices are crystal clear. Dokyeom, this guy, never fails to amaze me with his vocals. Seungkwan, can’t say any other thing about his vocal range as well. Woozi, his sweet soft voice is enough for me to squeal on him. Jeonghan, his part snatched my life. Literally. IT WAS THAT GOOD AND IT SUITED HIS VOICE WELL. Joshua, his voice is soft, but not the Woozi kind of soft. It’s soothing enough to sing you a lullaby. I swear I could got diabetes from watching this unit just because how sweet and tender their voices are.

I would like to talk about their performance of Don’t Listen Secretly. It was the second song, right after We Gonna Make It Shine. The stage went dark for a few moments and then when it lights up again, there’s a small setting in the lower back stage that sort of resembles an old Victorian-styled office room. Dokyeom, Joshua, and Seungkwan were sitting in an old-fashioned chair while the remaining two stayed standing. And when the music plays, it got me off guard. The song was remixed in some sort of angsty horror manner and it clicked me. They were doing the Don’t Listen Secretly stage with a vampire concept. These lonely vampires just want some love. XDD

Vocal Team brought the crowd into one with their vocals. Now it’s time for the next unit to lift up the mood again. The visual, I mean, Hip-Hop Team is up next!

They performed two songs. 언행일치 and Check In. To be honest, I haven’t laid my ear on the first song. So I got a little confused with the it. I was expecting for either 기대 or Fronting. But oh well, I enjoyed it as much as I enjoyed the other songs. The once mellow atmosphere that the Vocal Team set was turned into something hot like Show Me The Money.

What can I say about them? They’re called visuals for a reason. Wonwoo, Jeon Wonwoo, especially him. To me, he was the member that looks BEST when I see the live. Like, he has this stage presence that could captivate the whole audience hearts. He’s what I call, the bias wrecker.

Second song, Check In. See, I was actually glad that this song was performed. Because of that one line, that one specific line, that goes ‘Yeah I check in Jakarta City~’. And yes, that part was the most lit one in my case, or rather, in the audiences case. Because they’re singing that line in the very same place. The crowd goes wild when they got to that part. It was lit. I could feel the tension and the burning atmosphere. Feels like I’m watching Unpretty Rap Star or something.

Last unit is up! And the air just got even hotter.

Performance Team, the multi-talented unit. Rap? Check. Vocals? Check. Dance? They are called for that. They got on stage in full whites and started performing their signature song, OMG, as their first song. What’s interesting is this performance of OMG had a mix of rock music in it. Who knew that EDM would sound so majestic when you add a pinch of Rock into it? Now I’m wishing I had the clean version of this remix...

Following the next song, which is by far my favorite song from the unit, Highlight.

GODDAMN WHY ARE THEY SO HOT? They were literally covered with burning aura, no kidding. Like, Even when I’m not that close to the stage, and their aura just spreads everywhere like wildfire. It was hot in the concert hall thanks to this unit. And boy, they even added a dance break to this performance. The whole hall just felt like an oven. Hip-Hop Team was lit, but Performance Team is on fire at this rate.

Second quarter of the concert passed. Time for the real deal. Because everything hyped always happens at the third quarter. (Wth, this ain’t basketball)

The atmosphere was still hot as ever. Perhaps Performance Team set the temperature a bit too high. Hall was dark, until I saw the screen turning all red and displaying a visualization of flames. Wow shit, it’s gonna get ugly, in a good way. Click Here And as I expected, it’s gonna be lit for the rest of the quarter. The first song is ‘Crazy in Love’, my favorite song from the latest album. With all the red themed visualizations, and Seventeen wearing red, I’m practically a boiling water at this rate. Also, during Mingyu’s ‘Can’t stop it, neukkim, woo!’, I had the urge to dab. Just because I saw Wonwoo doing so during their dance practice. And yea, I dabbed. Click Here Click Here As if the torture wasn’t enough, they continued with another series of unit performances. This time it goes by the order : Vocal, Performance, and Hip-Hop Team. THEY ARE ALL FLAWLESS! And I figured, this quarter is the time where the fully perform their songs from their latest album. Minus Swimming Fool. Performance Team sent Jun and The8 to perform their duet song. Boy, there’s a bit of hot moment during their performance that made the crowd go crazy. (I don’t have the footage of Jun and The8′s performance. Sorry.) Finished with the unit performances. It’s Talk Time again! They did a lot of commentaries about the stage they just did, Indonesian Carats, and they did a little bit of dance battle! Click Here Joshua is just the cutest fluffball. And the leaders tho. Not forgetting to mention the amazing Diva Boo. His dances is literally the most lit one in my opinion. And last but not least, Wonwoo demonstrated Hip-Hop Team’s dance for their ‘If I’ stage. The moment he did that, I saw heaven. :’)) Click Here After they finished the dance battle, the performance continues to again, my personal favorites. Rock and Chuck. Now that the concert has finally come to an end, well, you know what I mean. They expressed their gratitude and the last song soon follows. The song we’ve been waiting for.

I would like to point out a few stuffs that I didn’t get to record. Before the actual song was starting, there was a dance part performed by Dokyeom, and maybe, Jeonghan? I couldn’t see clearly because he was facing the opposite side. BUT HEY. THAT WAS THE MOST MAJESTIC THING I’VE EVER WITNESS. Jeonghan is a blessing. ;’))

The song finished. The screen went black. And the crowd?

‘ENCORE! ENCORE! ENCORE!’

Before the encore stage played, there was a VCR showing each of Seventeen’s members thoughts about Carats. To them, Carats are their energy, friend, air, something they could never live without. To sum up, Carats are their everything. What a sweet bunch of boys.

That was so lit! It really brings back a lot of memories to me knowing that I’ve liked Seventeen back when they were still on Seventeen TV. I kinda teared up a bit despite the song being an upbeat one. Memories will be forever...

And the next song, the very last song, really makes the crowd heals. Yep, it’s Healing. :)

There was a fan project going on. And everything went really smoothly. I hope we got the be in the next episode of Going Seventeen. Teehee~

As the song ends, it is finally the time to say goodbye. They bid their messages to us. And I’m surprised that they actually brought up a lot of memories during their tour last year. Mingyu, Jeonghan, Seungkwan, S.Coups, Hoshi, Dokyeom, and Vernon talked about their first ever visit to Indonesia last year. I’m ... Impressed actually. I assume that maybe, Indonesia left a good impression to them. So they were actually pretty glad to visit here again. And I’m glad that they are glad to feel that way.

It’s finally the time to say goodbye. For real. But I clearly remembered Mingyu’s words.

‘If you live your life happily while you’re waiting for us, I’m sure that the next time we meet will come faster.’

I’m taking that as a promise that one day, they will return. And the day of their return, I’ll be there to watch them again.

Looking back to that moment, I’ve never been so blessed in my entire life that I could finally meet them in such a close distance.

As I reflect on Mingyu’s words, I made a new promise to myself...

I will meet them again one day, in a closer distance. Where I can fully immerse myself in their stage presence.

And that closes the story of my amazing night with my boys, Seventeen. And my family, the Rose Quartz and Serenity.

excerpt: “’Are you feeling alright, hyung?“ JB asked, eying her. Hyung? Why was he calling her, hyung? “Like I said we’re leaving in 10 minutes. You need to be ready.” He eyed her again before walking back out, closing the door behind him. What the hell was going on? She ran a hand threw her hair and nearly screamed. Her hair was gone! She jumped out of the bed and nearly tumbled over. Her body felt awkward, and she had to focus on moving her legs as she made her way to the bathroom. She flicked on the light, and this time she did scream. “What the-” She clamped a hand over her mouth. That wasn’t her voice. That wasn’t her face staring back at her. Hyung made sense now. JB only had one Hyung in Got7. Mark.”

Mark’s body was still alive and uninjured for the most part. Jay massaged her back. There had been a lot of apologizing and bowing to got7’s manager. The man had some strong lungs and a lot to say. Jay didn’t think he would ever stop berating her/Mark for sneaking out on a concert day, but he had finally run out of things to say and told her to join the rest of the boys on stage. Walking out onto the stage, she nodded to got6 and received cold stares in return. She stopped a few feet from Jinyoung and turned her attention to the stage manager who was reviewing the schedule for the night. They went over the set list, when the boys would change, when they would have a break to interact with friends. All of that seemed doable. It was when they started talking about choreography and who needed to be where during each song that panic started to set in. Jay had seen the choreography for each dance during music videos or fancams, but watching it didn’t mean she could perform it. If she was lucky, Mark’s muscle memory would take over, but she was certain she had used up all her luck with her wish.

“Alright, let’s do a dry run through.” The stage manager announced. Jay could feel the blood draining from her face and settling in her stomach where it proceeded to make her nauseous. Got6 took their places for the first song. The music started and abruptly stopped. “Mark, is everything okay?” The stage manager asked. She hadn’t taken her place in the line up. All of the boys were staring at her, waiting. She shook her head and bowed an apology before taking Mark’s spot. Her face still had no blood in it, and she was certain she was either going to pass out or puke. The music started again, and Jay was determined to fake it. But, there was no need. Dry run through meant walk around the stage in the general area of where you need to be, sing into an imaginary microphone, and do ridiculous dance moves when the stage manager wasn’t looking. However at the end, Jay found herself worn out, not physically - Mark’s body was accustomed to the strain - but mentally. She plopped onto the floor and allowed herself to breath. There was no way she could survive the full concert. Forgetting the fact that she couldn’t perform, she didn’t have the mental stamina for it. Jinyoung walked over to her with a water bottle in hand, and she had never wanted to kiss him more. He handed her the bottle and settled down next to her. She didn’t mean to, but her head found its way onto his shoulder. He didn’t shrug her off. Jay smiled enjoying the simple pleasure. His shoulder was softer than she thought it would be, and while there was a hint of sweat his natural musk over-powered everything. She closed her eyes and tried to commit the scent to memory. “Why are you so different today?” Jay sighed but kept her eyes closed. “You wouldn’t believe me.” His shoulders stiffened, and she feared he would leave. He relaxed though, and she cracked an eye open to glance at his face. Her lungs constricted at the sight, and she wanted to smack herself. She kept forgetting that she was speaking for Mark. She lifted her head, so she could face him. “I mean… I don’t mean…” Not only did she not know what to say, she didn’t know how to say it in Korean. “You’re a good friend, Jinyoung, and I will tell you why I’m different today. But not now. Please don’t be mad. Tomorrow I will be better. I promise.” She hoped she wouldn’t have to break that promise. Scanning Jinyoung’s face, she tried to gauge his reaction, but his face was a statue, a beautiful statue carved from the purest marble. Up close she could see remnants of stubble and small blemishes, but they only enhanced his perfection. “You’re not Mark are you.” He finally spoke, and the words knocked the breath out of her. Her eyes widened, and she gaped at him. “You two, head to hair and make-up and then wardrobe.” JB’s blessed voice came to her rescue. Jinyoung started to respond, but Jay jumped up and raced off the stage before Jinyoung tried to stall for more time. She did not want to finish their conversation.

The car ride to the concert was silent. After a third trip to buy snacks and break her last bill, Mark had landed a coin in the wishing well. He had closed his eyes, but when he opened them he was still standing by Palseokdam Pond. They’d headed out after that to meet back up with Jay.

Dee sat on the opposite side of the car, staring out the window, and Mark found himself staring at her. He could tell she was thinking. Her eyes were glazed over, and she was chewing on her lip. She had done it a lot today. She was probably thinking of a way to get her friend back. The two definitely had a deep bond. He had experienced a bit of it being in Jay’s body. Dee sighed and rubbed her temple. Reaching over, Mark grabbed her free hand. She jerked, looked down at their entwined hands, then at him, then back at their hands. Mark cleared his throat. “You looked upset. I was just trying to make you feel better. Is that not how Jay’s comforts you?” Dee snorted and immediately covered her mouth, her cheeks flushing. Mark turned away to hide a smile and give Dee a chance to collect herself. “In answer to your question, no. Jay doesn’t know how to comfort people. She either gets really quiet or does something ridiculous to make the other person laugh. Often times it’s both.” Mark nodded. “Is it okay if I hold your hand?” Dee managed a nod. She told herself repeatedly that it was just Jay’s hand and there was no reason for her heart to race, but that didn’t stop it from racing. She had to think of a way to get her friend back in her body, or she was going to go crazy. The taxi pulled up to the stage, and Dee paid and thanked the man before climbing out. She came to stand next to Mark. “Do we just walk in?” “I think it would be best to go around to the back and have Jay let us in. There is less of a chance of someone stopping us.” Dee nodded, and the two headed around back. Pulling out her cell phone, Dee sent Jay a text asking her to come let them in. She hoped her friend wasn’t in the middle of something and that they wouldn’t be left waiting until the concert started. Just as she was beginning to fear they really would be left waiting, the door squeaked open, and Mark’s head popped out. Jay nodded for them to come in. They entered into a back part of the venue, well away from the chaos of concert prep. “Why are you two here?“ Jay’s voice was hoarse from having to suppress her scream. "Could you really not get it in, Mark?” The idol snorted while Dee looked aghast. “Jay!” “What? It was a prime opportunity. You really wanted me to pass it up?”

“I want you to take this situation seriously.” “Dee, if I were to take this situation seriously I would be curled up in a ball having a panic attack right now. Please let me have my small moments of goofiness because they are my only way of coping with the fact that my wish is about to ruin this poor boy’s career.” She gestured at her body then Mark’s then back to her body. “Whatever. Mark’s career. Because there is no way I can rap and perform the choreography. Everyone is gonna think Mark had a stroke. And not only that, but I am going to have to stand in front of thousands of screaming fans while I fail to perform.” Dee sighed in response. “Sorry, a lot of stress going on right now. So what happened with the coin and the wishing well?” Mark cleared his throat. “I made the wish and threw the coin in and here we are.” “So our plan didn’t work, and we have no other recourse?” Jay verified. Mark and Dee nodded. “Awesome. I’m going to have to perform then.” Mark nodded again. Jay took a deep breath, held it for a moment and then exhaled. She repeated the process as she tried to stamp down the ever present panic. “How did rehearsal go?” Mark asked, breaking the tension. “You know it wasn’t bad. I think I panicked more internally than was absolutely necessary, and I’m sorry if I ruined any of your internal organs.” “With what I eat I think I’ve already destroyed them.” He smiled. The words eased the tension in her shoulder, and brought a smile to her face. “Too bad, we can’t get any of that crappy food right now. I’m starving. Nobody has let me eat all day.” “That happens. Sometimes we just get too busy to eat.” “That’s a sad life.” Mark shrugged but said nothing. He was used to it. “Not to bring the stress and panic back up, but-” “Mark-Hyung.” Dee froze at the sound of Jackson’s voice. Mark took a step forward, only to remember that he wasn’t in his body. He tapped Jay on the shoulder, and she spun to face the idol to find that he was not alone. All of Got6 was heading towards them. She spared a glance towards Dee who on the outside looked pale but calm. On the inside however, she was freaking out. Jay had had the entire day to get used to the idol group. She was being bombarded with all of them at once. She told herself to remain calm even if she felt like vomiting, passing out, and/or screaming. “Is this, Dee?” Jinyoung asked, and Dee nearly fainted at the sound of her name on Jinyoung’s lips. “Yes, this is my friend Dee.” Jay gestured to her, and she managed a weak nod. “And this is her friend Jay.” Jay gestured to her body. “Hello, I’m Jay.” The amount of aeygo Mark put into his greeting snapped Dee out of her shock. She glanced at Jay and watched her friend swivel Mark’s head to face her body. Her eyes were wide, and she had pressed Mark’s lips into a thin line. Mark returned the look with one of pure innocence, and Dee knew this was not about to end well. Pulling from the deep depths of her soul, Jay forced Mark’s voice to falsetto. “Dee, Jay, this is JB-oppa, Jinyoung-oppa, Jackson-oppa, Youngjae-oppa, Bambam-” A hand slammed over her mouth. “Stop now.” Her voice hissed. She was proud of how threatening her voice could sound. “What’s going on?” Jinyoung voiced the rest of the boys’ confusion. “I don’t think Mark is feeling well.” Mark said. Having been muffled long enough, Jay slipped her tongue between her lips and slathered saliva on the hand over her mouth. Mark screamed and jumped away from her. “You just licked me!” “Yes, I did.” She stated matter of factly. “You’re disgusting.” “I’m disgusting?“ Jay paused a moment, trying to formulate a response in Korean but couldn’t so in English she said, "Actually, I can’t think of a response to that. It is disgusting, especially since I don’t know the last time you washed that hand. Please tell me you didn’t slide it over any handrails in the park or-” “I will choke you if you don’t shut up right now.” Dee ended her tirade. Jay glanced over at her friend and gave her a cheesy grin. Dee ignored her and faced Got6. Bowing slightly, she said, “I apologize for both of these idiots.” Then she turned to the two idiots. “Both of you follow me.” Jay glanced at Mark who glanced back at her before both followed after Dee. Jay made a quick apology to the other boys as she walked past them. Once in a secluded area, Dee rounded on the other two. “Are you two long lost siblings or something? Why do I feel like I have to corral you two? Could neither of you tell that I was freaking out?” “Of course I knew you were freaking out, and I know the best way to help you when you’re freaking out is to give you something else to focus on. Mission accomplished.” Jay patted Mark’s back and then her own back. “I’m done with you.“ "When you say done with me do you mean me/Mark, me/me, or Mark/me?” “All three of you.” “What have I done?” Mark protested. “I don’t think I can see you the same way after my friends been in your body and you’ve been in hers.” That was a lie. She still found Mark extremely attractive even if Jay was in his body, and she had enjoyed spending the day with him even if he was in Jay’s body. Forcing herself to focus on the task at hand, Dee turned to her friend and nearly choked. The look in her eyes, Mark’s eyes, pierced her to her core, and she was grateful her friend was staring at her like that and not Mark. “What?” She asked, but Jay just shook her head, relaxing Mark’s features. “Did I miss something?” Mark glanced back and forth between Dee and his body. Spending the day with Dee, he’d learned early on that the girls relied primarily on non-verbal conversations which had made it difficult for him. Watching one of their non-verbal conversations was fascinating but also irritated him. “Dee thinks she can get away with lying, but she can’t.” Jay smirked. Before Mark could delve deeper, Dee brought them back on track. “It’s two hours till the concert right?” Mark nodded. “Do you guys usually do anything during that time?” Mark shook his head. Dee’s eyes misted over as she pulled her bottom lip between her teeth and began to chew on it. Mark smiled watching her. “I saw that.” Mark jumped at the sound of his voice. Jay was inches from him, boring into him with his eyes. He’d never thought of himself as an intimidating person, but Jay somehow brought it out. “Saw what?” “Jay has to go on stage.” Dee saved him. “There’s no way around it. We don’t know how to switch you two back, and I doubt we’ll find it in the next two hours. However, there is no way Jay can go on stage for you. My friend is all limbs when she dances. It’s ugly.” “She’s not wrong.” Jay nodded her affirmation. She had completely transformed his face. Gone was the intimidating glare. Replaced with resignation. “Which means that you need to spend the next two hours teaching her everything, so she won’t be as horrible as she would be if she went on right now.” “If we’re lucky, Mark’s muscle memory will kick in.” Jay offered. “Let’s hope it does.”

Screaming filled the auditorium along with flashing lights, countless signs, and countless fans. Jay peaked out at the crowd and choked on her panic. She couldn’t do this. There was no way she could do this. Everything Mark had taught her during past two hours was gone, completely. She couldn’t remember a word he’d said. All she knew was she was about to embarrass Mark in front of thousands of Ahgase. “It’s intimidating isn’t it?” Jinyoung came to stand next to her. “How do you do it?” The words slipped out, leaving behind mind numbing horror. Jay faced Jinyoung her mouth moving but no sound coming out as she floundered for an explanation. “It’s okay. I know you’re not Mark. I don’t know who you are or how this happened, but I know you’re not Mark. If I had to guess though, I’d say your one of the girls from earlier.” His voice was even and assured, and she knew there was no point arguing. “I’m Jay.” He nodded. “How did this happen?” “You know the wishing well in Palseokdam Pond? Stay away from it.” A chuckle slipped out, but Jinyoung was quick to school his expression. He didn’t say anything for a bit then, “This morning when Mark touched my butt, that was you?” He turned, pointing at her reddening face. “What? I don’t… I didn’t… That happened? Are you sure? I don’t remember… Is the concert starting? I think I’m ready. I’m not even nervous anymore. Thank you, Jinyoung.” She bowed and robot walked away. Laughter sounded behind her, full bodied laughter, the kind that came with eye crinkles and clutching sides. She wanted to die, and if she wasn’t in Mark’s bodied, she would have walked into the ocean. She hadn’t made it far when she was stopped by got5. It really was time to go on. They ushered her back towards Jinyoung, and she did her best to ignore him as she prepared to face the ahgase. What she had told Jinyoung was the truth. She wasn’t nervous anymore. Her embarrassment over road any nerves. She would gladly face the crowd naked than face Jinyoung. The intro video started, and the screaming increased. It was time to do this. JB led the charge onto the stage, and Jay followed close behind with the other boys. She stopped at her spot, ready to horribly fake it through the choreography. The music started, and she started to move but couldn’t. Black spots filled her line of sight. She closed her eyes and fell into oblivion. “Mark! Mark! Mark!” The call pierced the oblivion. Jay creaked her eyes open to find Dee kneeling over her. Emotions splayed across her face, chief amongst them worry. “Dee, why did you run out on stage? What are the ahgase going to think?” Now, that she thought about it the ahgase were extremely quiet. She glanced around to see that she was no longer on stage. They must have carried her off after she passed out. “Where are the rest of the boys? Why did they leave me with you?” She glanced back at Dee to find her friend staring at her. “Jay?” “Yes?” “Is it really?” “Wha-” Realization struck. Jay sat up glancing down at her body. There were her boobs and her hands and her legs. “It’s me! It’s me! I’m back in my body!” Tears streamed down her face, and she threw her arms around her friend as she sobbed into her shoulder. “I’m back in my body. The wishing worked.” She cried. Dee hugged her back fiercely. “You don’t know how happy I am to have you back.” At the same moment, the girls pulled apart to stare at each other. “Mark!” Dee pushed herself up and pulled Jay up. They rushed towards the stage. The ahgase were a low murmur, and they could see why. A crowd of people stood in the center of the stage. While they couldn’t see what they were crowding around, they had a pretty good guess. “They can’t ignore an idol passing out in the middle of a concert. They’ll probably take him to the hospital.” Dee said. “Which is the right thing to do, but I guarantee you he’s just fine, except for a minor headache. I feel so bad for Mark and all the ahgase. Why couldn’t we have swapped before I went on stage?” Jay growled. Mark was escorted off the stage. They tried to get his attention while he passed by them, but there were too many people and too much commotion. “What should we do now?” Dee asked. “It looks like got6 will finish the concert.” The rest of the boys were still on stage comforting the ahgase. “I think you should stay and watch. I’ve spent all day with these idiot in a body that wasn’t my own. I want to go and shower and sleep and eat but not in that order.” She took a few steps and stopped. “Wait, I’m not hungry. I want to eat so badly, but I’m not even hungry because this body has already eaten.” Tears started flowing again. “I’m so over this day!” Dee walked up behind her and hugged her. “You and me both. I don’t need to see the concert. I got to spend the entire day with Mark Tuan. Let’s just go back to the hotel.”

My top 11 after ep 10 eliminations

This weeks top 11 lineup is the one I agree with most so far, but I’m SHOOK at how much the rankings have changed in comparison to season one. So, the trainees who I want to be in BOI:

1. Kang Daniel - yes ma boy made it to first place! He’s one of the few who I can say is a shoe-in for the final 11. He just turns it ON when on stage while being an adorable fluff offstage.

2. Ong Seungwoo - he’s so funny and charming and handsome and talented he needs to be in this group! I think he’ll also most likely make it since his rank has been stable all season, but who knows maybe a Guanlin could happen to him (though I hope not and don’t think it will)

3. Kim Jonghyun - nation’s leader is no longer on top, but that’s ok because truthfully I couldn’t see him being Center and having the same influence as Somi did. However he would make a bomb ass leader, and can dance and rap. Also I want him to get popular enough so Nu'est can be revived, I wasn’t into them before but after watching this show I want them to succeed!

4. Lee Daehwi - his Never fancam was on point! Daehwi’s lines and expressions are so good while dancing, he just executes everything cleanly including his singing. Poor boy seems still so careful with his actions after the controversy, I hope he can bounce back to how he was before!

5. Park Woojin - he caught my eye since 10 out of 10, and has not disappointed since then. Looks cool but is actually a real cutie. At his rate of growth in popularity, I think he would be able to make top 11.

6. Kim Samuel - RISE SAMUEL! So happy he’s finally getting the recognition he deserves! However I’m not sure if he can keep being in the top 11. He’s so talented despite his young age and has gone through so much, I think he deserves to debut.

7. Park Jihoon - at first didn’t understand the hype for him, he’s just always been there in the top but I kinda got used to him so I’m not mad at it. I don’t think he’s outstanding talent wise, but he keeps up well with others and it’s a gift to be able to attract and maintain that kind of popularity in the first place. Also another shoe-in for final 11, at this point it would seem weird to me if BOI didn’t have him.

8. Hwang Minhyun - he’s got looks, dance, and vocal skills backing him. Minhyun is my second Nu'est pick, and as much as I also like Dongho, I prefer Minhyun. I feel like he fits the image with the other trainees more. Yes, it’s a very superficial reason but the industry is based very much on looks, and I feel like Dongho’s daddy sexy image doesn’t mesh well with the younger trainees. Also I think that there shouldn’t be more than 2 Nu'est members in BOI, otherwise it would be too much like Nu'est + hoobaes rather than a new group.

9. Ha Sungwoon - very, very shocked that he got third this week, I guess the viewers have a conscience and felt bad for the injustice he went through song rearrangement last week. I wanted him or Noh Taehyun to make it into the group. He’s very talented, but sadly I don’t think he has enough one-pick popularity to stay in the top 11.

10. Kim Jaehwan - this vocal powerhouse needs to be in BOI. He literally elevates each song he’s in to another level with his vocals! I really like his tone and style when he sings. Also he has shown us time and time again although he is not a strong dancer, he is able to keep up and doesn’t stick out like a sore thumb. Really hope he makes the group!

11. Undecided- originally I would have wanted Kenta to take this spot, but sadly he has been eliminated :,(. I think I would be ok with anyone in this spot, except for Haknyeon. All the remaining trainees are decent in their own right but haven’t left as strong of an impression on me as the ones listed above during stage performance. For example, Jisung has great personality and Bae Jinyoung has great visuals, but I haven’t been really attracted to their performance on stage. I also think Im Youngmin makes a good member but his rap hasn’t wowed me. Sewoon has a good voice and can keep up with choreography, but doesn’t impact me as much as Jaehwan’s vocals. I guess we’ll see next week who the final 11 are! Can’t wait!!!

The ‘Defund’ Conundrum – The New York Times

Good morning. Some white voters are souring on President Trump. Global health officials are worried about virus counts. Let’s start with the debate over “defund the police.”

Advocates for police reform are making the case that the phrase “defund the police” doesn’t mean what many people think it means. “Be not afraid,” Christy E. Lopez, a Georgetown University law professor, wrote in The Washington Post. “‘Defunding the police’ is not as scary (or even as radical) as it sounds.”

What it actually means, these advocates say, is reducing police budgets and no longer asking officers to do many jobs that they often don’t even want to do: resolving family and school disputes, moving homeless people into shelters and so on. Instead, funding for education, health care and other social services would increase. (For more detail on the movement’s agenda, you can read this Times explainer.)

The challenge for advocates is that many people equate “defunding” with a major reduction in policing — and they don’t like that idea. Reducing police budgets is arguably the only high-profile reform idea that’s not popular:

This situation reminds me of several other political issues in the Trump era, like health care and immigration. On all of them, progressives are pushing for multiple policy changes that are popular with voters (like expanded Medicare, the end of migrant-family separation and more police accountability). These changes are typically much more popular than President Trump’s positions on the same issues.

But many progressives have also adopted one big idea in each area that is decidedly unpopular with voters: Get rid of private health insurance. Abolish ICE. Defund the police.

The combination explains much of the political response you’ve seen in recent days. Joe Biden, Cory Booker and other Democrats have distanced themselves from the phrase “defund the police,” while Trump has highlighted it. “They’re saying defund the police,” he said last week. “Defund. Think of it.”

At the same time, some Republicans have begun signaling their openness to other parts of police reform, which is a big change. John Cornyn, a conservative senator facing a tough re-election campaign in Texas, yesterday tweeted the following: “I’m dedicated to rooting out racial injustices so no other family has to experience what George Floyd’s family has. It will require bipartisan commitment across the country & listening to the voices of those who have been most affected is the first step — we must not fail to act.”

A shift: A majority of Americans (57 percent) now believe the police are more likely to use excessive force against African-Americans. In 2014, the share was only 33 percent. “In my 35 years of polling, I’ve never seen opinion shift this fast or deeply,” Frank Luntz, a Republican pollster, said.

THREE MORE BIG STORIES

1. Trump’s base is fraying

Polls have also been shifting on Trump in recent weeks and show him to have fallen about 10 percentage points behind Biden. Why? Partly because some white working-class voters have soured — at least for now — on the president, according to Nate Cohn, a Times polling expert. Trump’s lead among white voters is down to around five percentage points, compared with his 13-point margin among whites in 2016.

“Incumbent presidents usually have an advantage in seeking re-election and that makes his deficit all the more striking,” Nate says. Past candidates have made up big deficits from the summer before the election, but the last incumbent to mount such a comeback was Harry Truman in 1948.

2. The policy debate on policing

Lawmakers around the country continued to consider new policies on policing. New York legislators defied police unions and began to approve a package of bills targeting police misconduct, including a ban on chokeholds. In Congress, Democrats unveiled legislation that would make it easier to prosecute police officers for misconduct, and require law enforcement agencies to report data on the use of force.

Trump denied that systemic problems existed, declaring that as many as 99.9 percent of police officers are “great, great people.”

Differing accounts: Attorney General William Barr contradicted Trump on Monday and confirmed that the president was taken to an underground bunker last month because of security concerns over street demonstrations outside the White House.

3. How to be safe in a pandemic

By now, many of the key rules for reducing your coronavirus risk are familiar: Wash your hands frequently when you leave the house. Wear a mask. Avoid close conversations. Minimize your time in indoor spaces.

But there’s one rule that probably deserves more attention: Adjust your behavior based on where you live. Virus rates vary significantly by state.

BACK STORY: New York awakens

Christina Goldbaum, a Metro reporter, reflected on New York City’s first day of eased restrictions:

On Monday morning, New York seemed to be slowly waking up from its 100-day hibernation. The streets were still absent the usual crowds and cacophony of car horns. But the return of around 400,000 people to some urban routines offered some sense of normalcy.

Commuters wearing face masks hopped onto freshly scrubbed trains that smelled like lemon-scented cleaning supplies. Even the more crowded train cars still carried only a dozen or so riders.

By midday, local shops had unlocked their doors for curbside pickup. In the East Village, a half-dozen construction workers who had been home for months chatted and laughed as they lined up to have their temperatures checked.

Other parts of the city remained at a standstill: In SoHo and on Fifth Avenue, where many stores were looted last week, marquee shops were still boarded up. But graffiti on the plywood offered encouragement: “LOVE NYC” was a common motif and, at one store, “STAY STRONG.”

Embrace tiny fish

Seafood from a can gets a bad rap — dismissed as survival fare that gathers dust in the back of many people’s pantries. But you can do a lot with tinned fish, says the cookbook author David Tanis.

You can make anchovy crostini, tuna-stuffed peppers or a big plate of spicy pasta, spruced up with canned baby clams, bacon and peas. Tanis suggests splurging for high-quality anchovies and tuna if you can. If not, work with what you have.

Finding the virtual action

With real-life sports mostly on hiatus, gamblers are flocking to the competitive video-game matches known as e-sports. Since early March, half of all sports betting in Europe has reportedly been on video games.

Bettors can wager on players trying to shoot each other in games like Call of Duty, or facing off in sports games like FIFA 20 or Madden NFL 20. Some sports books even offer betting on completely automated matches — that is, computer versus computer.

At least someone’s having a good day

It sounds like a plot lifted straight from Hollywood. A decade ago, a New Mexico art collector named Forrest Fenn buried treasure in the Rocky Mountains and self-published a book challenging people to find it. According to Fenn, the chest — filled with gold, gems and artifacts — is worth around $2 million. Over the weekend, he said, someone found it.

“I do not know the person who found it, but the poem in my book led him to the precise spot,” Fenn wrote on his website. He created the treasure hunt after recovering from kidney cancer.

At least two people died trying to find the treasure, and Fenn still refused to retrieve the chest. “If someone drowns in the swimming pool we shouldn’t drain the pool,” he said in 2017. “We should teach people to swim.”

Kconcert: DAY6 Live & Meet in LA Review

Foreword: On New Year’s Eve of 2015, Day6 released news of a US Fanmeeting Tour, with three stops in San Francisco, LA, and New York. It was set to happen in April of 2016. I had purchased tickets for the SF show without hesitation. However, once March came around, it was announced that the shows would be postponed to August 2016. Which meant five excruciating more months of waiting. And then, before August could come around, the tour was eventually canceled altogether. I was thoroughly devastated. They left us hanging on a string for 8 entire months only to snap it & let us fall in the end. Fast forward to August of 2017, and finally! Day6 is scheduled to visit five cities in North America! And last night was the night I nearly waited 2 entire years for.

Yes, I admittedly cried when they canceled the shows. And so I was immensely excited for them to come back. For the LA show in particular, it was almost impossible to get tickets and they sold out immediately, but thankfully my coworker got a pair for us. The seats we got were in row M, not too far back, but way off to the left side of the stage. We also got a hi-touch benefit with our tickets. Next, I’m going to talk about the good & the bad that went down last night. Maybe it wasn’t perfect, but it was still very memorable nonetheless.

The Good

The sound system was very high quality. Everything was crisp, clear, and loud. Now if only my shitty Samsung could’ve recorded audio without all that crazy static, sigh.

Their vocals were on point; as stable as I would’ve ever imagined. I’m sure we all knew coming in, how amazing they all are at singing, right? Really, just phenomenal vocals. As expected from the boys of Day6 :’)

I had an epiphany about this entire kpop-fan gig I thought I could pull off, but have very much grown out of now.

The Bad

Way. Too. Much. Talking. I understand that it was a "live & meet", but spending 5+ mins per member just to answer one question, and then playing a pretty stupid game that also lasted about 30 mins or more was honestly just a waste of my time. I get that it's fun & interactive for fans, but for me, I just wanted to get on with the show.

The set-list was... quite a disappointment, personally... They sang either a really random song, or just those normal title ones. Of all the ones they could've gotten from The Day, they chose Free하게... why... why not 태양처럼 or 이상하게 계속 이래 or 버릇이 됐어 or even COLORS??? *sighs* And for Daydream, they use Hunt (not to say it was a terrible song, but the others are pretty great too)?? Why not Blood, or Sing Me, or 바래 or even First Time?? *sighs again* I have a personal Top 6 from Day6 and out of the Top 6, only my 6th song was sung (놓아 놓아 놓아), but ironically, it wasn't’ even the right version....... the part that made that song extra iconic & amazing was Young K's rap, but the “Rebooted” version completely cut his rap out... But I guess okay, all those songs are really old and they’ve made a lot more music since the first two mini albums. So, maybe they’ll sing the better ones out of EveryDay6? But of all complete EveryDay6 months they could’ve done, they did April?? Dance Dance + Man in a Movie....? But what about October?? Their most recent ones?? The devastation was real. In the end, I never got to hear any songs that I seriously, really, truly longed to hear, unfortunately.

I just hated how the timing is annoyingly off. If I were able to see them in 2016, they would've only sung their songs from the first two mini albums, leaving a really high chance for them to sing all the stellar ones (in my opinion). But with this more expanded discography from the EveryDay6 project, the likelihood of them singing the older songs decreases significantly. and that was just something I have no control over; it was all about the timing. And this time around, they focused on their newer, more popular songs. darn :( but I guess, that should’ve been expected. They had to appeal to the general audience.

I genuinely felt reallyyyy bad for them as I watched them hi touch 4409209 people as we waited our turn too. They just looked straight up exhausted, especially Wonpil. I remember thinking in my head, "Aren’t their arms getting sore???" but they weren't even halfway through yet.. :(

This was my first time experiencing a hi touch, and as expected, it went by extremely fast. In all honesty, I wasn't as nervous or excited as I wanted to be; I thought I would be freaking out inside, but I really just wasn't. While some girls around me were hyperventilating or about to pass out or cry, I was just kinda “eh, cool”. They were very nice though. Forcefully smiley maybe. Except for Jae who looked genuinely touched.

I honestly just got the feeling that I can probably just settle for fancams of them on youtube. Something about the songs they sang, I mean obviously none of them were my personal favorites, but they weren't super special / held no immense meaning for me. The feels never really hit me. If anything, I’ve felt more emotional watching them on youtube than I did live. (Wow this makes me sound really ungrateful, which I am not at all. I just never got that overwhelming concert feeling, ya feel??)

I think it really shows to me that it just comes down to the music for me. It's great to see them live and in person and everything, but if they aren’t singing songs that will touch me, I will lose interest / engagement. I didn't feel fully immersed in their performances. Usually when I go to a concert, there is at least one song or one kind of performance that makes me feel completely overwhelmed, as if time stopped in that moment, everything feels surreal, and I almost want to cry. But for the first time after a concert, I walked out thinking about the price I paid for that kind of experience. Isn't that kinda bad? I guess I just expected way more... I set the bar too high for them, especially since I’ve been waiting nearly 2 years for this day to come.

I JUST CARE ABOUT THE MUSIC. is what I officially learned.

Overall rating: 5/10. I feel like I’m being pretty brutal and probably annoying to anyone that really wanted to go, but couldn’t get the chance to. In general, it had a disappointing set-list, they spent an excessive amount of time chatting it up, I didn't really get the feels, and I seriously started questioning if I’m really a "fan" or if I just like their music and that’s it. It’s not like I’m in love with their personalities or looks, nor do I watch every single video of them and keep up with their whereabouts on the daily. Kpop is always an "entire package" kind of thing where you have to like and keep up with every aspect of that group/person to be a fan. But I honestly don’t do any of that at all. Maybe I did at first. But now, I really just listen to their music. I just follow their music. I don’t care much for anything else about them. I really just wanted to hear them sing. Not just sing the songs I personally love to death, but just to sing more, too. All the negatives aside though, I really do love Day6 and even though all their music isn’t perfect to my ears, they are all still very much enjoyable, which is what matters most at the end of the day, right? Maybe I’ll just have to wait another time around, until I can hear my personal faves live. Thank you, Day6, for such a memorable night! The energy & atmosphere was alive and burning bright. See you guys soon!
